Dear Henry,
Grandma and I spent this forenoon reading, looking at the big waves and seeing the curious things. We saw on the fishing pier, a lot of men and boys trying to catch fish. They had fish lines about 100 feet long with two or three hooks on each line. On the hook they put pieces of crab and on the other end lead sinker. The pier is probably 400 hundred feet long, and extends way out over the big waves. It is very cool out there in the sun even. There the men and boys waited and waited to get a bite, but we did not see any fish caught: all the same they were satisfied to wait and wait. Since we left, however, I hear they caught several. Grandma and I got weighed. She weighed 98 pounds and I, 150 do. The very least we ever weighed, maybe we do not eat enough but I think it because we are getting old. You are young and we hope you will grow to be good large boys. The main thing is for you to be good, and mind and obey God.
Dear Henry,
The only way to be truly happy is to fear God and do good. Just think how every time you do naughty you feel bad and make all of us feel bad.
Now I must close or I will not have time to write to the other boys.
