LeRoy Heritage Museum Annual Dinner Meeting
Location: LeRoy Independent Baptist Church Annex
Time: Dinner - 6 p.m.; Meeting/Program - 7 p.m.

Reservations must be received by Friday, October 1, 2004. All
members who plan on attending this event should return their reservation
form with $10 per person by this date. Anyone who becomes a member prior
to October 1 is also welcome to make reservations for the dinner meeting.
The evening will include an update on the museum renovation project, which
began in August, and the work that has been done in the previous year to
preserve the history of LeRoy Township, in Bradford County.
A program will be given by museum president, Matt Carl, entitled “The
Legacy of the Lewis Brothers”, highlighting the history of the Lewis family
of LeRoy. The Lewis brothers, George, Harrison, and E. Lloyd, along with
their brother-in-law, H.L. Stone, operated the Lewis Hotel, Lewis Lumber
Company, and Lewis Brothers General Merchandise Store in LeRoy. According
to Staley Clarke’s “The Romance of Old Barclay”, the Lewis Brothers provided
the lumber to build the Laquin sawmill. |

The
Chemung County Historical Society will continue to observe the 225th
anniversary of the Sullivan-Clinton Revolutionary War Campaign with a month-long
lecture series during October. The lecture series will complement
the new exhibit “Conflict of Claims: The Sullivan Campaign Against the
Iroquouis, 1779” now on display.
All
lectures will be held at the Chemung Valley History Museum at 415 East
Water St., Elmira, and are free and open to the public. Each lecture begins
at 7pm and will last approximately one hour. For additional information,

– Chemung County Historian J. Arthur Kieffer will offer a look at the forgotten
soldiers of Sullivan’s Army in his lecture “The Women of the Sullivan-Clinton
Campaign.”

October 20th at 7:00PM
– Gary Emerson, will present “The Effects of the Sullivan Campaign of
1779.” This lecture will look at the legacy of Sullivan’s Campaign
against the Iroquois.
Wednesday,
October 27th at 7:00PM
– Robert E. Mulligan, Jr. will address the issues surrounding the equipping
of Sullivan’s forces in his lecture “Supplying Sullivan: Logistics and
the Indian Expedition of 1779.”

Tioga County
Historical Society annual dinner meeting will be held at the Whitneyville
Fairgrounds on Sunday, October 24th. The Tioga County, Farm, Mine
and Lumber Museum will be open from 4:00-5:00 PM. The program will be the
Hamilton-Gibson production of the hour long original play "TIOGA."
This will be the last performance of this play which was written for the
Tioga County Bicentennial. The play will begin at 5:00 PM followed
by dinner and a brief dinner meeting. Reservations should be
made by Friday, October 15th. This is open to the general public.
