What's New Previous Months
If you are cutting in to the site directly to this page instead of through the "front door,"  you are missing being counted so I know that the site is being used and will continue developing it, and you  are missing the Special Postcard of the day.
.
Clean Up Will Continue - Even with three months of it already, there is still much to do. Lots of rearranging still needs to be done after 8 1/2 years of development. The same warnings as mentioned on October's What's New are still to be observed.

Postcard Month - I also want to make this a month to get some of the thousands of postcards I've accumulated to the site. While many hundreds are scattered throughout the site, I want to give them their own pages by place and category. I will try to make that a major focus this month pending whatever other HOT topics intervene on my time.

Accumulation and presentation of the Obituaries by Cemetery project continues.

NOTE: By using the sidebar links on the What's New Pages, you can link to any other place on this massive site. This is our SITE MAP. Be sure you know how to use them . It will save you a lot of time and make the site much more efficient for you to use. It will also guide you to resources you may have overlooked even if you have used the site for many years. Subject links on the left and Township links on the right. The verbal site map is in the bars at right and left of list and the graphic site map is below the What's New list.

The following articles and many more to come were taken from scrapbooks I rescued when the owner decided they smelled bad and needed to go to the dump. They are now safe and we can all share in their treasures. (And yes, they do smell bad - like old paper, and we all know that odor and don't mind it at all)

27 JAN 2005 The Chemung County Historical Society's 2005 Annual Meeting will celebrate the Veterans Oral History Project in New York on Thursday, January 27 at 12:00 pm.

Members of the Chemung County Historical Society are invited to attend our Annual Meeting on Thursday January 27, 2005.  The festivities begin with a luncheon at 12:00 pm followed by a brief business meeting at 12:45. The highlight of the day will be a presentation at 1:00pm by Michael Russert, Project Coordinator of the New York State Veterans Oral History Project in Saratoga Springs, NY.  Russert has been with the NYSVOHP since Governor Pataki initiated the project in 2000.  As coordinator, Russert has been responsible for working with professional military historians using the latest digital technology to preserve the story of more than 850 of New York's Veterans.  He will talk about the details of the project at the state level, including the role that the Chemung County Historical Society has played since becoming involved in the project.
Russert was born and raised in Buffalo, NY.  A teacher for thirty-five years, Russert currently does book reviews for two national publications about the Civil War.  Russert belongs to the Company of Military Historians and has a MA plus 65 hours in American Studies.
The Annual Meeting also gives us the opportunity to welcome new trustees, a new slate of officers, and to thank outgoing trustees for their service. We hope you will join us for this event, one of the Historical Society’s oldest traditions. Cost to attend is $12.00 per person.  Call us with your reservations today! (607) 734-4167.
Please RSVP by Tuesday January 25th.
