REMINDER - Please remain aware of the restrictions on posting our work on commercial sites that has been in effect since the site began in 1996. We are finding many violations of this, whole pages copied and pasted with no source citation or permission. These violations are usually from people who have never bothered to thank us or donate to the site's expenses. We publish it here free and available 24/7 anywhere in the world. There is no advantage to posting it on sites where people have to pay to see our free gift. It separates us from the people we help and diminshes the returns we get in exchange for our own projects. I have already had to curtail publishing many pictures I intended to. They show up without my name on them all over the place. They are not public property. We want to continue to develop this site in a trusting and honest environment without being slave labor to commercial sites. If that is not possible, we will have to find other ways to share our work. Be moral. Restrictions on Use
I have created a Tri-Counties Facebook Group page that you are welcome to join. Limit subjects to history related material. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=308807939790

Hello Ms. Joyce:
My name is Michol Cesare and I was a resident of Horseheads, NY from 1957 – 1962.  I graduated from Horseheads High School in 1961 and we are preparing for our 50th class reunion.  I have been asked by our class president to try and locate some “missing” students and wondered if your website might be a good tool.  I have a list of 7 people we’ve been unable to locate.
Please let me know if you feel your sites would be beneficial for my search.  Thanking you for your assistance,                                                Michol Cesare

PS:  Thank you for providing such a wonderful resource!!  I researched for over 20 years trying to locate the parents of LaVerne Sr. with no luck, then stumbled upon your site and found more information than anyone in my living family has ever had before.  Your site led me to William and Etta, then to Isaac and Electa.  I've also been able because of this information to trace many of the indirect branches of my ancestry and "meet" some very interesting relatives.  Thank you so very much!

From Jacquelyn
Greetings - just wanted to say THANK YOU.....my goodness, the volume of detailed information provided on your site is outstanding!  I consider myself quite the sleuthing master (my friends refer to me as "The Mistress of the Internet" :) and have often found myself digging deeper and deeper and deeper....just to find a remote tidbit for my family tree....but then, I stumbled upon the Tri Counties site and I tossed a few shovels aside as I found such a wealth of relevant information I was almost overwhelmed.....instead, one piece of the puzzle lead to another, then another, then filled in blanks, holes, gaps, heck, even entire branches o' the family tree!
...Giddy am I?  You bet.....
I cannot begin to fathom the time it has taken to not only gather the information, but to upload/scan, connect the dots and try to maintain such a beast.  I tip my hat to you and your colleagues!
Again, my sincere thanks.Jacquelyn Ransom

Hi Joyce,

Your Tri-Counties site is terrific, and often the best source for obscure pictures and information about the small towns that dot Tioga & Bradford Counties.

PennDOT has historic county maps online here:
http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Internet/Bureaus/pdPlanRes.nsf/infoBPRCartoMapsinPDFandDJVU?OpenForm

Historic county maps that may interest you are
ftp://ftp.dot.state.pa.us/public/pdf/BPR_PDF_FILES/Maps/Type_10_GHS_Historical_Scans/Bradford_1911.pdf

and

From http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Internet/Bureaus/pdPlanRes.nsf/infoBPRHistoricCountyMaps

Route numbers changed often and alignments shifted as the Department upgraded roads, and these maps help verify locations of schools, churches, etc.

Enjoy,

Matt Hamel, Regional Historian
PennDOT Districts 2-0, 3-0 & 4-0

Joyce,

I also remembered an additional source of historic maps that would also include NY: http://historical.mytopo.com/

For example, here’s a 1902 map showing Lawrence Twp. in Tioga County and others south:
