Clymer in Tioga or Hector in Potter County
Joyce. You have a Rushmore Bible [on site] and this is the same family. The Cemetery is in Mixtown or Hector, close to the line. If you go to Sabinsville and see a Mixtown sign, turn there and go to Grum Hill. At Grum hill turn left and then in a field is an old road, turn left there and go about a quarter of a mile. In the middle of a very lg hay field is a stand of trees and some are broken down In the middle of that grove is a tiny cemetery. All that's left is 3 stones. There used to be so my grandfather said, an old stage Inn where travelers stopped and the Rushmore 's lived near there. There is an old stone wall behind the cemetery. if you take the road from Grum hill far enough, it will bring you to what is called The Little Phoenix. right by the grum hill sign is an old school house where Clark Roberts taught and right next to the sign is a foundation where Joshuah Rushmore had a cheese factory. Hope this helps, I am terrible with directions. it's the only Rushmore Cemetery I know of in the area. The rest of the Rushmore's are buried in the Champlain Cemetery, the other little one in Westfield and alot are buried in Sabinsville Cemetery, Including my mother and grandparents. Pam
Other Source says Grimes Hill Road.
Here are some pictures of the old Rushmore Cemetery. It sits in the middle of a hay field behind some broken doen apple tree and a lot of brambles. There is an old stone wall behind it John Wyatt died 4/24/1842 age 92 yrs Alice Mumford D 3/5/1878 age 87 yrs wife of John These are the parents of Amelia Wyatt Rushmore. There is a stone that says Levi son of -----Rushmore, can't read it all and on the stone also Samuel D Nov 26/1834 age 23. A stone that reads Silas Rushmore died Aug 7th 1878 61 yrs 9 mo 2 d. on the other side of the stone it reads Peter Rushmore D July9, 1855 72 yrs old Amelia D June 6, 1871 age 80yrs. Hope this helps someone. Someday I hope to get back there and clean up the cemetery. Pam Rushmore Dailey pdailey@zitomedia.net
