REMINDER - Please remain aware of the restrictions
on posting our work on commercial sites that has been in effect
since the site began in 1996. We are finding many violations of this, whole
pages copied and pasted with no source citation or permission. These violations
are usually from people who have never bothered to thank us or donate to
the site's expenses. We publish it here free and available 24/7
anywhere in the world. There is no advantage to posting it on sites where
people have to pay to see our free gift. It separates us from the people
we help and diminshes the returns we get in exchange for our own projects.
I have already had to curtail publishing many pictures I intended to. They
show up without my name on them all over the place. They are not public
property. We want to continue to develop this site in a trusting and honest
environment without being slave labor to commercial sites. If that is not
possible, we will have to find other ways to share our work. Be moral.

Bengt's news from Sweden: Regarding air traffic I am glad we
don't have any trips abroad planned this spring. And I'm glad I didn't
have this mess last year. We hear on the news how tourists returning home
have had to get off the charter plane in Greece and be transported by bus
and train through Europe to home destination. A five person family stuck
in London bought a car for approx 350 USD and managed to drive home to
Sweden!
The domestic and intern'l airports in Stockholm have been open a couple
of days for limited traffic, but this evening they have to close again.
Some reports say things will be better during the weekend. People
living near by the airports seems to be happiest as they don't get disturbed
by planes. I think London is the one that has had biggest problem with
the ash cloudes.

Hi, Joyce,
Your website is unparelleled in breadth and depth for county content
in the field of genealogy! Unfortunately, none of my ancestors lived
in the tri-county area, but I have enthusiastically added links to your
site on two of my pages at http://ancestortracks.com – my pages on Tioga
Co. (http://ancestortracks.com/Tioga_Resources.html) and Bradford Co. (http://ancestortracks.com/Bradford_Co_Resources.html).
As you can see, I am dedicated to posting free, downloadable landowner
maps for the entire state of Pennsylvania and have nearly covered the
state. My goal is to put at least one 19th-century landowner map online
for any researcher to copy and use in their research, particularly making
the census records and the 19th-century published county histories more
helpful. In some cases, I post links to other maps which are posted online.
I live outside of Washington, D.C. so most of the maps I post come from
the Library of Congress collection.
So, in addition to extending my sincerest appreciation for ALL that
you have posted, I wonder if you would like to link to my site—perhaps
the home page rather than the individual pages so people are able to see
what else is available? If you hover over the map of PA, you will
see what is on the page if you click on a county. I am also transcribing
all of the Township Warrantee Maps that are on file at the PA Archives
in Harrisburg and we sell those, but the vast majority of resources on
our website is completely free.
Congratulations on your wonderful site!

Hi Joyce,
I'm working with a group called the Keystone Marker Trust, that
is looking to help communities in Pennsylvania restore, replace and fabricate
the blue keystone-shaped markers found at entrances to towns in PA: http://www.keystonemarkertrust.org/
See also http://www.gribblenation.com/papics/keystone/yenerall/index.html
We are constantly trying to confirm the existence of markers, as well
as finding new ones that are not in the group's database. I've seen
the one at Sabinsville, but do you happen to know of any others in Bradford
& Tioga Counties? Do you mind putting the word out on your site?
Feel free to contact me, or the KTM directly at http://www.keystonemarkertrust.org/default.aspx?pg=118
.
Thanks for your help, and as always, kudos on a terrific online resource.

Fay Tiller Morgan was the very first person to send in typed
records for inclusion on the site when we started it up fourteen years
ago. She died Friday. Her obituary follows. You will find many of
Fay's contributions on the site. She was a fine woman with a good sense
of humor, and we'll miss her. She always wanted to be helpful, and she
achieved that goal very well. |
