Newspaper Article: John F (Bob) Lindemann, 70, died early today at the Williamsport hospital. Mr. Lindemann operated an animal refuge for a number of years, and was a well-known professional baseball player and horseman. Baseball fans of another era remember Mr. Lindemann as a first baseman for the Williamsport Millionaires of the Old Tri-State League. He was with the club in 1905 and 1906. The latter year the team won the pennant with Mr. Lindemann hitting 316. His death leaves Fred R. (Snitz) Applegate the remaining living member of the Tri-State League teams who still resides in Williamsport. Mr. A;;legate is a former county commissioner. A third member of that team, "Rube" Bressler, died late last Summer. Mr. Lindemann's last public appearance was at Bowman Field last July 25 when he and Mr. Applegate were honored by the Williamsport Tigers. Mr. Bressler was absent because of ill health. Connie Mack of the Philadelphia Athletics appeared at home plate with Mr. Lindemann and Mr. Applegate. He recalled some of the local men's experiences in baseball shortly after the turn of the century. In 1949, the Williamsport Lions Club honored the three surviving Tri-Staters, presenting them with gifts before a Tiger game at Bowman Field. Mr. and Mrs. Lindemann set up housekeeping after they were married, 41 years ago last June in the 900 Block on Elmira Street. Later they lived near the corner of Elmira and Edwin, where the Bell Telephone plant now stands. From there they moved to their present home, where Mr. Lindemann built his own stable for his horses and animal refuge. For years and until his fatal illness, Mr. Lindemann's horse drawn laundry wagon was a familiar sight on the streets of the city. A dog which tagged along after Mr. Lindemann's horse belongs to a neighbor. Over a decade ago, Mr. Lindemann served as agent for the local unit of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In late years, he continued to operate his stable, and at the time of his death, six horses were stabled in his property. The laundry business which he and Mrs. Lindemann operated was begun by him a year before their marriage. The original location was in Market Square, Mr. Lindemann was a native of Philadelphia. Surviving are his wife, the former May E. Dooley; two daughters, Mrs. Richard F. Whipple, Elmira, and Mrs. William Focht, city and four grandchildren, Nancy and Mary Ann Focht; and two sisters, Mrs. Esther Smith and Mrs. Catherine MacBride, Philadelphia.
