REMINDER - Please remain aware of the restrictions on posting our work on commercial sites that has been in effect since the site began in 1996. We are finding many violations of this, whole pages copied and pasted with no source citation or permission. These violations are usually from people who have never bothered to thank us or donate to the site's expenses. We publish it here free and available 24/7 anywhere in the world. There is no advantage to posting it on sites where people have to pay to see our free gift. It separates us from the people we help and diminshes the returns we get in exchange for our own projects. I have already had to curtail publishing many pictures I intended to. They show up without my name on them all over the place. They are not public property. We want to continue to develop this site in a trusting and honest environment without being slave labor to commercial sites. If that is not possible, we will have to find other ways to share our work. Be moral. Restrictions on Use
I have created a Tri-Counties Facebook Group page that you are welcome to join. Limit subjects to history related material. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=308807939790

Joyce,
I thought you'd like to know that we at the Steele Memorial Library have been busy scanning and indexing Chemung County Atlases from 1869 and 1904 plus Elmira City Atlases from 1876 and 1896.
As I type these lines on August 17th we have the 1869 Chemung County Atlas and the 1896 City of Elmira Atlas available online from:
http://www.toolsofhistory.org/Collections/Atlases-from-Chemung-County
We hope by the end of the year to have the 1876 City Atlas and 1904 County Atlas available for viewing as well.

Mansfield's old Junior High School 1927-1959 , later called Allen hall, is now rubble. See photos and articles from its early history.
The following graph represents the percentage of usage of each of the site's directories, or sections. As I would expect,  the obituaries and cemetery sections are the most used. I would have expected the birth, death and marriage partitions to also be well used, but they seem to be neglected somewhat, and the schools pages are not represented as significant. Don't overlook the undiscovered treasure on the site as you use the partitioned PICO search engine.
30 AUG I need a helper person - volunteer typist - to transcribe Elmira Free Academy alumni listings 1859-1909 to Excel spreadsheet. This is a wide - two page - presentation so will result in a many columned spreadsheet. I am adding alumni listings for Tioga, Lawrenceville and Millerton High schools prior to merger into Williamson. It reminded me that I have had these EFA pages on my hard drive too long waiting for a typist. Let me know. Thanks.
17 SEP PICO Search engine bill due for next six months. About $800. Send donations please. Thanks,

Dear Joyce,
A group of people are meeting at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Sheshequin PA across from Ulster (of course you know where it is) to tell the story of Queen Esther and her people and her lineage.  That will be this coming Monday October 11 from 2-4.
I don't know if you are able to come but if you can it would be good.
If you know any people who are from Queens Esther and Catherine's lineage who would like to listen or who are in a position to speak, please invite them.
All the best,
Destiny Kinal

Hi Joyce,

Your Tri-Counties site is terrific, and often the best source for obscure pictures and information about the small towns that dot Tioga & Bradford Counties.

PennDOT has historic county maps online here:
http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Internet/Bureaus/pdPlanRes.nsf/infoBPRCartoMapsinPDFandDJVU?OpenForm

Historic county maps that may interest you are

From http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Internet/Bureaus/pdPlanRes.nsf/infoBPRHistoricCountyMaps

Route numbers changed often and alignments shifted as the Department upgraded roads, and these maps help verify locations of schools, churches, etc.

Enjoy,

Matt Hamel, Regional Historian
PennDOT Districts 2-0, 3-0 & 4-0

Joyce,

I also remembered an additional source of historic maps that would also include NY: http://historical.mytopo.com/

For example, here’s a 1902 map showing Lawrence Twp. in Tioga County and others south:
