Groundhog Day - Poor Phil. They dragged him out in front of
hundreds of reporters. I had to cover Yoshi's (dog's) eyes. My very sensible

The silence of winter was broken this morning by the birds loudly
proclaiming that their Spring hormones have kicked in. How nice to hear
them all again. It sounds as though they've appreciated the nice weather
this week as much as we have. |

MEET THE CAST OF BIG RIVER AT THE CHEMUNG
VALLEY HISTORY MUSEUM
On Tuesday February 15, 2005 at 10:00 PM, join us for a free reception
to meet the cast of the musical Big River at the Chemung Valley History
Museum. Following the performance of the musical Big River at the Clemens
Center, the cast will be at the Chemung Valley History Museum, 415 East
Water Street, Elmira, to view the museum’s collection of Mark Twain memorabilia.
The musical Big River is based on the story of Huckleberry Finn. Twain
wrote portions of Huckleberry Finn while living at his summer home, Quarry
Farm, in Elmira, NY.
The Chemung Valley History Museum will bring together artifacts from
its collection relating to Mark Twain and the Langdon Family in one exhibition
to open Thursday February 10, 2005. Artifacts will include furniture,
costumes, autographed books, letters, photographs and other items that
belonged to Twain and the Langdon family.
Also, for one night only, Twain artifacts from the Chemung Valley History
Museum’s collection will be on view at the Clemens Center on Friday February
11, 2005 following the performance of Hal Holbrook in Mark Twain Tonight!

Joyce,
My name is Steve Hall from the Rome area and I'd like you to know and
pass on as appropriate, that we are in the process of establishing a Sons
of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp here in the county. We have had
a Camp in Elmira and one in Binghamton as well as Ithaca for quite some
time, however the nearest PA unit is in Scranton and we felt it was viable
to try filling in the gap between there and Elmira. We are not yet firmly
established, but will be meeting in Towanda at the LDS Church once
a month. For more information on the organization please check out the
National website at www.suvcw.org We are similar to the DAR and SAR
except obviously we deal with the Civil War. We currently have 7-9 members
here in Bradford, all transfers from either Elmira or Scranton. Jim Nobles,
Mark Orshaw and his son, Fred Wheaton, Stan Weston, myself and my son and
a couple others who are in the process of transferring. I can be reached
at setaf@sosbbs.com and 570-395-3354
Among our projects is registering all Civil War veteran graves in the
country and as well Bradford County. We have done several hundred so far
and will be picking up again in the spring. Along with that as time permits
we are also ordering new gravestones for the unmarked graves and gravestones
which are broken and/or illegible. Two years ago we placed or replaced
40 stones in Riverside Cemetery in Towanda and have since done a couple
more, with paperwork in various stages of completion for 30 others.
I'd also like to offer what services I can for people interested in
tracking down info on their CW ancestors here in Bradford County. Though
I may not have all the answers :-) I may be able to point them in
the right direction.
Sincerely, Steve Hall
