BEISEL Dr. William "Bill" Harold Beisel, Jr.

89, of Hanover, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, Akron, Ohio, York and Mansfield, died while surrounded by his loving wife and family on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, after a long illness.   He was born in Watsontown, on Jan. 29, 1923, son of the late William Harold Beisel and Sylvia Viola (Yordy) Beisel. Bill was the husband of Barbara Ann (Weaver) Beisel whom he married on June 17, 1950.  Bill earned his Masters and Doctoral degrees from Penn State University. His bachelor degree is from West Chester University. He was a 1941 graduate of Watsontown High School. A World War II veteran, Bill served in the United States Army, Battery A, 365th Field Artillery Battalion – the only unit in the war to see combat action in both Europe and Japan. Bill was a kind and gentle man of great faith and strong character. Bill loved his family more than anything. He was a gifted educator, working as a teacher, principal, professor, dean and interim President (of Mansfield University). He will be greatly missed by his family.  Bill's survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Weaver Beisel; his three children, Dr. William H. Beisel, III and his wife Cheryl of Stow, Ohio, Dr. Raymond W. Beisel and his wife Deborah of Clymer, Dr. Margaret B. Penno and her husband Pete of York; his nine grandchildren, Kelly, Dan, Robin, Jackie, Jacob, Georgia, Leland, Colin, Christopher; his two great grandchildren, Mya, Penny; his brother, James Beisel and his wife Grace of Bailey, Colo.; and a special nephew, Jim Metcalfe and his wife Christine of Mechanicsburg. Among those preceding Bill in death is his son, James "Jimmy" Phillips Beisel who died in 1955.  All are welcome to join Bill's family at his visitation on Saturday, July 28, from 9:30 a.m., until time of memorial service at 10 a.m., at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, 140 North Beaver St., York, with The Reverend Canon David Lovelace officiating. Bill's family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church immediately following the memorial service. BELL Richard J. Bell

88, died on September 2, 2012 at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albany, New York.  He was the son of Alderman John T. Bell  and Bertha Amy Norris Bell.  He was born in Corning, NY on November 23, 1923.  Having lived in Corning until retirement, he, his wife, and daughter moved to Sun City Center, Florida in 1988.  They lived there for 23 years until brought to Albany for better health care. He was pre-deceased by his wife Ruth Panyard Bell, daughter Kathleen R. Bell and brother John Rodney Bell.  He is survived by his son Gregory Bell and wife Nancy H. Goody of Albany, NY; his brothers David Bell of Elmira, NY and Alan Bell of Cocoa Beach, Florida.  He is also survived by his closest niece Brandy Bell Lewis and her daughter Morgan Lewis of Brunswick, Georgia, his closest nephew John Jeffrey Bell and wife Debbie of Manchester, Connecticut, and long-time family friend James Beckett of Corning.  Serving in the Signal Corps of the US Army during World War II, he was stationed on remote Pacific islands constructing radio towers to enable the US air invasion of Japan.   Mr. Bell was the Tax Commissioner for the City of Corning, followed by being the Director of Real Property Tax Services for Schuyler County.  With his excellent people skills and humor, he always explained property taxes to citizens in a way that they would leave his office with a smile, even as they also got a tax increase.  Richard lived a spirited life.  He had a wry sense of humor and great story telling abilities.   He also had unique skills as a psychic.  These included the ability to visualize criminals, find lost people, identify playing cards by touch, and to identify wrapped objects.  Richard’s ancestors moved to beautiful Schuyler County in the Finger Lakes in 1826.  With these roots, with his background as a tax assessor, and his love of the region, he was appalled by proposals to allow high volume hydraulic fracturing for natural gas there.  He knew that such failure-prone industrial activity would immediately reduce property values and tourism.  As a result, any memorial gifts are requested to be sent to Food & Water Watch, 68 Jay St., Suite 713, Brooklyn, NY 11201 (for New Yorkers Against Hydrofracking. BLAKER Jean E. Thrailkill

88, of Sayre, Pa., and formerly of Loyalsock Township, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at the Bradford County Manor in Troy, Pa.  She was born May 1, 1924, in Williamsport, a daughter of Irvin and Henrietta Moore Blaker.  Jean was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, retired in 1983 from the former GTE Sylvania in Montoursville and was a member of Faxon Kenmar United Methodist Church.  She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph H. in 1985 and a brother, Irvin Blaker. Jean is survived by her son, Michael J. Thrailkill of Porters Corners, N.Y.; a daughter, Lynette J. Park of Sayre, Pa.; a brother, Harold Blaker of Montoursville; five granddaughters and a grandson. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Rev. Michael S. Swimley officiating. BOOTH Irving D. “Denny” Booth Jr.

died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Facility after suffering a stroke in August 2011.  Denny was born July 28, 1921 in Elmira NY, the son of Irving D. Booth, Sr. and Mary Seeley Booth.  He is predeceased by his wife of 57 years Diane Dewhurst Booth, his parents, and son Duff Wilson Booth.  Denny is survived by his beloved sons, Irving Dennison Booth III “Dee” and wife Candance Lynn Booth, and Robertson Dewhurst Booth “Dewey” and wife Kathleen Christofaro Booth; daughter Donna Booth Quinlan and partner William M. Carey; grandchildren Elizabeth Marie Booth, Emily Dewhurst Booth, and Andrew Dennison Booth, Liam Patrick Quinlan, and Michaela Diane Quinlan.  Denny attended Dartmouth College, before serving with the 25th Marines 4 Division and was awarded the Purple Heart for action on Iwo Jima in the Pacific.    He worked for 37 years as a salesman for I.D. Booth Inc. in Elmira, N.Y.  Always an active person who enjoyed skiing, hunting and golfing, Denny was an active member of the Elmira Country Club, Elmira City Club, and Fur Fin and Feathers Club.   His real joy was living and sharing time with his wife on their beautiful farm outside Millerton, PA. There he tended his many gardens with love, starting in early spring in the greenhouse and ending each fall with an abundant array of vegetables, much of which he shared with family or gave away with kindness.  Denny loved hunting and fishing and the out of doors, something he passed on to his children, taking them on many trips to Canada, the Adirondacks and Florida.  He was also an excellent swimmer, skier, windsurfer, and hiker, and enjoyed camping and canoeing in the Adirondacks with friends well into his 70’s.  Denny loved to travel, and with his wife regularly toured the US in their motor home, meeting and making many long-time friends in the process.  He loved travelling overseas as well, and especially enjoyed the wine and food regions of Provence and Northern Italy.  Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. BROWN Leon B. Brown

89, of Towanda died on July 26, 2012 at the Bradford County Manor. Leon was born in Monroeton on April 27, 1923 a son of the late Dayton and Harriet Brown. Leon was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. BROWN Paul Warren Brown

85, of Wellsboro, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro.  Paul was born Aug. 6, 1927 in Pocopson, Chester County, Pa., a son of Charles LeRoy and Marjorie (Brown) Brown.  He was a retired sports equipment and auto mechanic salesman. Paul was a WWII Army veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church in Galeton. Age 91, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born on April 17, 1921 in Canton, PA to the late David and Arlene (Wright) Campbell. He is survived by his brother, Edwin Campbell of FL; sister, Lois White of FL. Larry was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was the Past Commander and life member of VFW Post 901 in Elmira and a member of the American Legion Post 443 in Elmira. Larry retired from National Homes after 30 years of service. CHERESNOWSKY George S. Cheresnowsky

When tomorrow starts without me, try to understand, an angel came and called my name, then took me by the hand…..George S. Cheresnowsky, 92, of Nichols, N.Y., died and was reunited with his wife Marguerite on Saturday, October 13, 2012.  George is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Roselyn and Robert Lindhorst of Nichols; his grandchildren: Monica Babcock and Randy Lindhorst both of Waverly; great grandchildren: Dylan, Milena and Craig; sister and brother-in-law: Dorothy and Harry Paterson of Ridgebury, Pa; sister-in-law: Rebecca Newman of Owego; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. George was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite; his infant daughter Paraska Louise Cheresnowsky; brothers: Michael, Peter, Nicholas, Andrew, Mathew, Leo, Theodore, Walter; sisters: Mary Shoemaker, Anna Geffert and Ginger Frantz.  George was born on May 10, 1920 in Sayre, Pa., a son of the late Onufry and Paraska Cheresnowsky. He attended school in Sayre and at the age of 23, George joined four of his brothers and proudly served in the US Air Force during WWII. On September 6, 1945, George married Marguerite L. Bill and together they celebrated 55 years of marriage until her passing on July 2, 2000.  Many will remember George, visiting area businesses as an automotive salesman for Bardahl Automotive Supplies. George was a member of Blessed Trinity & St. Patrick Parish, Owego Elks Lodge, Boys & Girls Club (served as Administrator); Croton Hose #3 Fire Company; and was instrumental in Owego Little League, serving as District 7 NYS Administrator. His family will cherish his memory, as a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Silently we grieve and brush away the tears. CONNORS William D.

Age 91 of Horseheads, NY died on Thursday September 20, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Marian J. Szalinga Connors and his son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Becky Connors of Lakewood, Colorado. Mr. Connors was born October 23, 1920 in Pittston, PA the son of the late John and Maude Hall Connors. From 1939 to 1945 he served with The 4120th Army Air Forces Base Unit. After World War II he attended Union College where he received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Connors was employed as a research and development engineer with Hardinge Brothers, Inc. where he pioneered the development of computerized numerically controlled (CNC) precision metalworking lathes. Among his hobbies, Mr. Connors designed and built kites which won awards at international competitions including The Smithsonian Kite Festival. His kites have been displayed at The Steele Memorial Library. COSTELLO Angelo J. Costello

age 85, of Painted Post, died on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Robert Packer Hospital with his children by his side. He was born in Corning on March 23, 1927 to Constantino and Philimina (Ferraro) Costello. He married Barbara Mizzoni on September 24, 1949 in St. Mary’s Church in Corning.  She predeceased him in 1995.  Angelo was enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and served two years in the Pacific Theater of war. Upon returning from service, he was employed by Corning Glass Works as a Steuben glass polisher for over 40 years. He was a very social person and made many friends as a member of the Corning Elks Club and Corning VFW.  He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Angelo loved to walk his entire life, walking to work, walking dogs all around the Northside, and in later years he continued this at Emeritus. He is survived a son: Paul (Elizabeth) Costello of Painted Post; daughter: Jacquelyn Deats of Batavia, NY; six grandchildren: Matthew Costello of Pittsburgh, PA, Emily and Natalie Costello of Painted Post, Jason Deats of Rochester, Jeffrey Deats of Batavia, NY, David Martrano of Rochester, NY; two brothers: Peter and Sam Costello of Houston.  In addition to his wife, Angelo was predeceased by his daughter, Nancee Martrano in 1995, brother, Louis Costello, sisters, Mary Briggs, and Lucy Schimizzi. DENISON Harold P. Denison

age 86, of Cty Rd. 17, Watkins Glen, NY died on Thursday, August 16th, 2012 at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, NY.  Harold was born in the Town of Starkey, NY on August 5, 1926, the son of the late Marcus and Ellen (Jayne) Denison. He served in the US Army during WWII and Korean War. Harold worked as a barber for 15 years and spent 52 years driving bus for the Watkins Glen School District. He retired from International Salt Co after 26 years of service.  Harold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty (Ousterout); his daughter, Nancy Harris; grandson, Dustin Harris; granddaughter, Olivia Paradiso; great granddaughter, Iyla Harris; siblings, Stuart (Gene) Denison of Rochester, NY, Naomi Denison of Bath, NY, Joelyn (Vern) Voorhees of Pine Valley, NY, Ronald (Lois) Green of Corning, NY; and many nieces and nephews. DEPEW Clyde O. Depew

age 87, of Prattsburgh, NY died Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath, NY.  Clyde was born in Montour Falls, NY the son of the late, Russel Emmett and Francis Egbert Pelham Depew. Clyde served in the US Marine Corp during WWII and worked at Taylor Winery in Hammondsport, NY. He was a member of the American Legion and the Hammondsport Moose Lodge.  He is survived by his daughters, Mari Lane (Tom) Wheeler of Prattsburgh and Barbara (Jim) Welch of Little Rock, AK; grandchildren, Samantha (Ryan Kidder) Wheeler, Krystal Wheeler, Zachary (Christy Whiting) Wheeler, Logan Wheeler all of Prattsburgh, and Tara Ashley of Little Rock, AK; great grandchildren, Jonathan Margeson, Travis Kidder, Dylan Wheeler, Blake Shutter all of Prattsburgh, Adriana and Alex Schultz of Little Rock, AK; his sisters, Aniah and Mary and his twin brother, Claude, and Gene; several nieces and nephews including special nieces and nephews, Rhonda (Scott) Baube, Rex (Donna) Depew, and Randy Depew. Elmira: World War II Veteran, U.S. Marines 4th Battalion. Three major landing Iwo Jima, Saipan and Tinian. Past Master Ivy Lodge of Masonic Temple, Founding member of Lakewood Sportsman Club, member of Elmira Grotto Club and many other organizations. Was in business over 50 years as Jerry Edwards & Sons, Building Contractors. Survived by wife of 66 years, Norma (Williams) Edwards; son, John W. Edwards; and daughters, Cathy Hill and Patti (Gary) Crandell; grandchildren, Brian (Kristi) Edwards, Alisha Spicer, Dennis Hill, Valerie (James) Andrews, Laurie (James) Hogan and Heather (Brad) Ashford; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Great-grandsons, Will and Keaton Edwards, were a great joy in his later years as they visited their great-grandparents on at least a weekly basis since they were born. FARDELMANN Donald Crissey Fardelmann

88, died at home in Hebron, Md. on Oct. 21, 2012 after a short period of declining health. Donald was born May 10, 1924 in Jersey City, N.J., to Louis Herman and Lillian Viola Crissey Fardelmann. He attended Montclair High School in Montclair, N.J., New Mexico A&M University, and graduated from Newark College of Engineering in 1948. During WWII, Donald served as a member of the 409th Infantry Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division in the U.S. Army.  After the war, he served one year in Occupied Germany and Austria as part of the 9th Infantry Division. On July 28, 1946, he married the love of his life, Anita Blanche McMahon, of Las Cruses, N.M., who preceded him in death on May 25, 2010, after almost 64 years of marriage.  After the war, he lived in Livingston, N.J. and worked at Charles S. Wood Insulation Company in South Orange, N.J. and Woolsulate Corporation in Fairfield, N.J., where he was an Estimator/Engineer until he retired in 1986.  Donald was a member of Livingston United Methodist Church, North Orwell United Methodist Church, and regularly attended Bethesda United Methodist Church, Salisbury, Md.. Don sang in the choir and served on various committees within the United Methodist Church. Don played the trombone in high school, the University of New Mexico A&M, as well as the Kirby Band of Nichols, N.Y. Donald played football for Montclair High School, during which his team won two state championships. He also played football at NM A&M and for the 9th INF DIV in Occupied Germany.  Donald was an Eagle Scout, and served for over 15 years as scoutmaster for Troop 75 in Livingston, N.J. He volunteered at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. for 19 years.  Donald will be especially remembered as a loving father of his six children.  He loved camping, traveling and boating. Among his favorite past times was canoeing down the Delaware River as well as camping with family and friends at places like Stoke State Forest, High Point and the Worthington Tract, next to the Delaware Water Gap. Fulfilling a promise made to his bride, he took his family traveling throughout the United States, including most of the nation's national parks, Civil War and Revolutionary battlefields, and other natural wonders of this great country. He had a passion for sports and was able to watch most of his children's games.  Don loved to garden, both vegetables and flowers, although most of the vegetables were grown to help feed the rather large family he raised. Once retired in Pennsylvania, he developed a love for making trails around the property and maintaining the ponds. Wherever Don and Anita lived they loved to make friends, usually through the local church, and always got involved in the community. FOX Robert F.

Age 92 residing at Elcor Health Services and formerly of Hillview Dr. Elmira, NY died Sun. July 15, 2012 following declining health. Born on Oct. 12, 1919 in Snydertown, PA, Bob was the son of the late Edward F. & Evelyn L. Schlegel Fox. He served his country during WWII in the US Air Force. Bob married Marybelle Bowers on July 15, 1944 in KS. A good provider and hard worker, he was employed by Clute Ford Motor Co. for many years as a service manager. He enjoyed fishing and in younger years was a baseball pitcher. Bob was a longtime member of the Pennsylvania United Methodist Church. Surviving is his loving family, devoted wife, Marybelle Bowers Fox, Elmira; son and daughter-in-law, Robert F. Fox Jr. & Christina Lown Fox, IA; grandchildren, Edward J. (Katie) Fox, Kenneth N. Fox, Catherine Rose (James) Brooke; great grandchildren, Alana, Ethan, Michael, Isabel and Ben; sister-in-law, Norma B. Bowers, KS; several nieces and nephews, including Elwood Stetler, Kay Caup and Pam Lobb. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by a sister, Madeline L. Stetler. FUGH H. Nelson Fugh

86, of Palmerton, formerly of Mars and Mansfield, died Monday evening, Oct. 29, 2012, in the comfort of his home.  Born on July 5, 1926, in Valencia, he was the son of the late Carl and Della Maharg Fugh.  Nelson had been a blasting superintendant for S.J. Groves Construction in Minneapolis for 20 years. He had served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.  Beloved husband of 63 years of Helen L. Hopper Fugh, whom he married on June 10, 1949; loving father of Daniel Fugh (Cynthia) of Garden Valley, Calif.., Nancy Fugh Hamilton (David) of Palmerton, Douglas Fugh (Tammy) of Burnsville, Minn., David Fugh (Tree) of Plymouth, Minn.; grandfather of Josh Wood, Jordan and Jadelyn Hamilton, Christopher, Lauren and Erin Fugh; great-grandfather of Lex and Gwyneth Wood; brother of Anna Fugh Long of Catawissa, Mary Elizabeth Fugh Shields of Kittanning and the late Elwood Fugh, Mark Fugh, Carl Fugh, Jr., Ruth Fugh Dugan and Della Katherine Fugh.  Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. GOULD Alan Jenks Gould, Jr.

of East Montpelier, VT, formerly of Jekyll Island, GA, Stroudsburg, PA, Oneonta, NY, Elmira, NY, and Port Washington, NY died Sept. 14, 2012. He was born in Binghamton, NY, the son of Alan J. and Mary (Denton) Gould. He was a newspaperman all of his working life. He attended Cornell University for two years, serving as assistant managing editor for its newspaper, The Daily Sun, for part of that time. During WWII he was a navigator on a B-17 in the 8th Air Force. He and bombardier Carl Yates were the only crew survivors after 35 missions. In his last duty he was public relations officer at Roswell, NM Army Air Field. His first and worst job after serving his country in WWII was as #37 of a 37-person sports staff for the New York Times. After a wasted year in New York, he joined Gannett in Elmira, NY, first serving as sports editor, then Sunday editor. In 1960 he joined the Ottaway newspapers as editor in Oneonta, NY then finished his career as publisher for Ottaway-Dow Jones in Stroudsburg, PA until 1983. He and his wife of 59 years, Peg Mordt Gould, retired to Jekyll Island in 1986. Preceded in death by Peg and two of their three sons (Rik at 62 and Brian at 27), he is survived by wonderful Nan Stone of East Montpelier, VT, daughter Judy Campbell of Longwood, FL, son Tom Gould of Shiremanstown, PA, and, six grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Golf note: In four years following retirement, he shot three holes-in-one: First two at Glenbrook CC in Stroudsburg, PA (holes 8 and 2), and the third at Indian Mound, Jekyll Island (hole 6). GROSS Donald F. Gross

85, of Fair Oaks, Calif., died Saturday, July 21, 2012, in Sacramento, Calif. He was born in Wellsboro May 14, 1927, to the late Robert W. and Hildred (Parsons) Gross. He married Shirley Robertson in 1952, and had two sons, Donald of Sacramento and Walter of Rancho Cucamonga. He had two daughters of a prior marriage, Yvonne Dennis of New York City and Audrey Cooper of Ithaca, N.Y. He is survived by several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Leila Ames of Los Angeles, F. Lura Heichel of Addison, N.Y. and one brother, James (Helen) of Corning. He was predeceased by three sisters, Jean, Audrey and Edna (Bowers), as well as two brothers, Robert L. and Morton.  Donald served in the Navy aboard the USS St. Paul in World War II and the Army during the Korean Conflict, in communications. Don was an electronic technician at McClellan Air Force Base and was recognized for outstanding contributions in the development and improvement of complex electronic installations. He received the Distinguished Civilian Service Award at the Pentagon, being presented by the Secretary of Defense, the Honorable Ronald H. Rumsfeld. He also received letters of recognition from President James Carter and Chiang Kai-shek, while in Formosa. He was a scout master for many years, producing many Eagle Scouts for the first time in the troop's history. GUTKOWSKI Edmund F. Gutkowski, Sr.

97, of 253 Wells St., Meshoppen, PA, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 1, 2012 at Hospice Community Care in Dunmore, PA after a short illness.  Born on Feb. 13, 1915 in Georgetown, PA, he was the son of the late Alex and Edith Gutkowski.  Edmund served his country during WWII as a Corporal with the 318th Squadron of the U.S. Air Corps, and he sure loved to tell his stories of his time overseas. After his time in Air Corps, he worked as a truck driver for Kintner Milling Co. in Meshoppen. Edmund was a member of St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Meshoppen, as well as the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion in Black Walnut, the V.F.W. Endless Mountains Post #3583 in Mehoopany, the Meshoppen Rod and Gun Club and the NRA. He had many talents but most notably as a woodcarver, carving many animals but mostly birds. He was a local historian, again telling many stories of his past, especially while spending time at his favorite eating spot at Young’s Restaurant in Meshoppen. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition, he was a taxidermist in his spare time, plus he was a collector of Indian Artifacts, searching around the area to find authentic items.  Survivors include his daughter, Donna M. Gentilezza and her husband, Santo of Scranton; his sons, Edmund F. Gutkowski, Jr. of Wyalusing and Dale Newhall Gutkowski and his friend, Stacy Faux of Meshoppen; his grandchildren, Carol Gutkowski of Tunkhannock, Edmund F.  Gutkowski, III of Meshoppen, Tina Gutkowski of Tunkhannock, Marrissa McGraw and her husband Andy of Binghamton, NY, April Lemelin and her husband, Ed of Sweet Valley and Becki Newhall of Meshoppen; eight great- grandchildren; his sisters, Barbara and Edith of Georgia; several nieces and nephews and his special buddy, Rusty, his beagle. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Gutkowski, who died in 1969; his brothers, Leo Gutkowski, John Gutkowski, Chester Gutkowski and Phillip Gutkowski, and his sister, Jean Kazicki.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church in Meshoppen with Father Joseph Manarchuck of the church officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joachim’s Cemetery in Meshoppen, with graveside military services conducted by members of the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion of Black Walnut, the Dennis Strong Post #457 American Legion of Tunkhannock and the Endless Mountains Post# 3583 V.F.W. of Mehoopany. Age 89 of John St., Horseheads, NY died Wed, August 22, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born in Horseheads on July 27, 1923 to the late Bruce and Martha (MacDonald) Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, Isabelle (Pease) Hamilton; three daughters; one son; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Charles; deceased brother, Donald and grandson, Christopher. HAYNES Lloyd Herbert Haynes

92, of Loxahatchee Groves, FL and formerly of Horseheads, NY, was called home by his Heavenly Father on September 14, 2012. He was born on October 18, 1919 at his family home in Sunderlinville, PA. Lloyd was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Phylena Peyton Haynes, his parents and 5 of his 7 siblings. He is survived by his children: Nancy Gage, Lloyd Allen Haynes, Sharon and her husband, Vince Burkhardt, Dennis and his wife, Lorelle Haynes. Also 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, his dear sister, Pearl Sutphen, brother, George Haynes, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews. Lloyd was a member of the Greatest Generation and proudly served our country in the army in World War II. During his years living in Horseheads, he worked at the Remington Rand Co. and later owned and operated Latta Brook Builders. He retired to Florida in 1972. HEINEMAN Henry F. Heineman

85, of Corning, NY, died Friday September 14th, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family.  Hank was born in West Pittston, PA, August 7th, 1927 son of the late Herbert and Louise (Morgan) Heineman. He graduated from West Pittston Pa High School.  “Hank the tank” was a member of the first football team that was undefeated and un-scored upon. He served during World War II in the Navy from 1945 to 1946, where he was stationed on the USS Independence and participated in the atomic bomb test; Operation Crossroad.  He then graduated from Wilkes College where he was also a member of their first football team, he received a bachelor’s and masters degrees from Elmira College.  Hank owned and operated Credited Adjustment Bureau of Corning for several decades.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Corning, American Legion Post 0746 of Corning, Elmira Lions Club, Disabled American Veterans, and Southern Tier Association for the Visually Impaired, and the White Eagles Society.  He was a great Dad, Grandfather and friend to all who knew him.  Survived by two daughters: Sally (Marty Gush) Heineman of Elmira,  Nancy (David) Bohlayer of Big Flats, N.Y. and one son: Mark (Jennifer) Heineman of Corning, NY four grandchildren; Alicia Beard of Lowman, NY; Eric Paluch of Syracuse, Sarah Heineman of Corning and Erin Naylor of Corning, great granddaughter Genevieve Beard of Lowman, NY. A special niece Deborah (William) Homer of Charlton, Ma. HICKERNELL Charles Hickernell

Charles S. Hickernell, age 86, of Trout Run, PA, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Gateway House, Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, PA. Charles was born July 17, 1926 in Schaefferstown, PA, a son of Frank and Mabel (Dissinger) Hickernell. He was the husband of Dolores (Heckman) Hickernell. Charles was a member of the Harvest Family Fellowship, the V.F.W. in Wellsboro, PA and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He enjoyed camping, feeding the wildlife, and riding 4-wheeler. He was a devoted father, grandfather and husband of 64 years.   Charles is survived by his wife, Dolores; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tedd Mitchell and Dawn Hickernell of Newmanstown, PA, Scott Michael and Lisa Hickernell of Wernersville, PA; 3 grandsons, Shawn, Seth and Jobe Hickernell; a brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Nellie Hickernell of FL. Pine City, NY: 85, died on June 20th, 2012 in Sanford, FL. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Worked in the auto glass industry before moving to Sanford, FL. He also worked as a Master Starter, Ranger at Timcun Golf Country Club for 20 years. He was also an inductee of the Elmira Bowling Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Warters, sisters: Arlene Smith, Marjorie (William) McDonald along with serveral nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Burton and Edith Holecek and sister Beatrice Holecek. age 90, formerly of Elmira, NY died  peacefully Tuesday afternoon, September 25, 2012 at Elcor Health Services. Jesse was born April 7, 1922 in Van Etten, NY a son of the late Clayton and Lillian Carpenter Hollenbeck. Jesse served his country honorable with the US Navy during WWII and worked as a carpenter with the Local #281 Carpenters Union for many years. He is predeceased by his wife, Theresa Palumbo Hollenbeck. Jesse is survived by his four children, Michael L. (Vicki) Hollenbeck, Therese Wheeler, James A. HOWARD Phillip E. Howard 

Hammondsport: Phillip E. Howard, 84 was born in Elmira, NY on September 28, 1927 to Walter and Anna Howard. He died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at his home. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and owned and operated Howard Enterprizes for over 40 years. He was predeceased by his sisters, Geraldine, Marjorie; brother, Clyde and sons, David and Walter. He is survived by Geraldine and his beloved pet Precious. He is also survived by brothers, Raymond Keith (Ethel), sister, Jean Stover (Don), daughter, Marlene Couglar (Sonny Grant), sons Douglas (Andrea Morrill), Donald (Darlene); son-in law, Karl Couglar, along with 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. KILMER Neal E. Kilmer

age 89, of Hall Road in Beaver Dams, NY died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Corning Hospital. Neal was born on September 7, 1923 in Wheelerville, PA to John and Lena (Ayres) Kilmer. He served his country in the Army during World War II, and married Laura Ward on February 12, 1947 in Ralston, PA. Neal worked for Schweizer Aircraft Corporation in Big Flats for 35 years and retired in 1986 as a welder. He was very proud of all his grandchildren and there are too many good stories to print here, although, he loved blowing bubbles and swinging with them. He is survived by his wife Laura; daughter, Joy (Michael) Stanton of Beaver Dams; two sons, Phillip (Veronica) Kilmer of Canton, PA and Michael Kilmer of Corning; two sisters, Faye Smith and Phyllis Mitchell; brother, Jim Kilmer; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Neal was predeceased by his sons, Richard Kilmer and Kenneth Kilmer, and by several brothers and sisters. 86, of Spencer, NY died on September 18, 2012 at Bethany Manor. He was born January 25,1926 in the Bronx, NY. Taisto was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Stevens) Kumpula; two children, Donna Austin and Karen Kumpula Woolever. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Paul Austin, Brandi Caldwell, Tami Kamp, James Woolever, Jr., also 4 great-grandchildren, Keegan and Cooper Kamp, Josie and Charlotte Austin and Savannah Woolever. MILLER Edward D. Miller

90, of Wellsboro, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at The Green Home.  He was the husband of E. Jeanne Miller (Wagner) who survives. Edward was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Flemington, the son of Harry Miller and Ella Bodle (Miller).  He was a retired salesman for Peninsular Life Insurance. Edward was a Navy veteran who served his country in World War II. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, traveling and loved spending time with his family.  Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Ronald Miller (Sheila) of Monticello, Fla., Donald Miller (Janet), of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter, Miriam Yero (Joseph) of Bradenton, Fla.; three step-sons, Barry Mahosky of Wellsboro, Michael Mahosky (Peggy) of Wellsboro, Scott Mahosky of Williamsport; stepdaughter, Tonya Wilcox of Wellsboro; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. MOLLOY George Raymond Molloy

85, of Liberty, Pa., died on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, Pa. Born on July 8, 1927, in Linneus, Mo., he was the son of John and Emogene (Hess) Molloy.  Prior to his retirement, George was self-employed as a machinist and a locksmith. He was a member of the North American Fishing Club, Lodge No. 202 of the Charleston, W.Va., Elks Club and a life member of Post 945 of the American Legion. George served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.  George is survived by three daughters, Debbie Roche, Linda Young, Kathy Madin, all of Calif.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jefferson and Margaret Molloy of Carbondale, Kan., Francis and Charlotte Molloy of Davenport, Iowa; one sister, Nola Cox of Linden, Kan.; and his loving companion of 24 years, Laura Whiting of Liberty, Pa. Finger Lakes Chapter, 2113 Chili Ave., Rochester, NY 14624. Howard was born December 16, 1926 in Bath, NY, the son of the late Charles and Maude Strait Rumsey. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, having been in the Sea Bee Battalion, as an equipment operator in occupied Japan. On Sept. 4, 1948 in Bath, NY, he married the former Doris G. Avery. A lifelong local resident, Howard worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction, for many years for Dalrymple Construction of Elmira. The majority of his life, was spent working alongside his wife in the rental property business, and as owners of Dottie's Mobile Homes, in Dundee. The word retirement was not in either of their vocabularies. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years Doris G. Rumsey at home, 5 sons James Rumsey of Tyrone, Samuel H. (Darlene) Rumsey of Dundee, Christopher S. Rumsey of Hammondsport, Terry Rumsey of Wayne, Howard T. Rumsey of Dundee; 3 daughters Linda Rumsey of Dundee, Robbin C. (Harold) Rider, and Candy LaBar both of Tyrone; 21 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; a sister Helen Schoeffler of Bath; and several nieces and nephews. RYNDERS Harold Lee

Age 87, of Lower Maple Ave., Elmira, and longtime resident of Largo, FL, died Sunday, July 8, 2012. Harry was born in Avoca, NY to Victor and Anna (VanWormer) Rynders. He was raised in Elmira, attended EFA and graduated from Rochester Business Institute. He also served in the US Army Corps of Engineers and was a veteran of WWII. Harry was an insurance adjuster in his father's business and worked in sales for Suburban Propane. Over the years he and his wife Shirley owned and managed multiple facilities for the elderly in New York, Virginia and Florida. Harry was a boy scout leader, an avid NY Yankee fan who enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and visiting family. We can still see and hear his infectious smile and laugh. In 2003 Harry was predeceased in death by his son, David Rynders. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley (McCracken) Rynders and her children, to whom he was a wonderful father, Penelope (Jon) Russell of Clearwater, FL, Victoria (Scott) Patterson of Tokyo, Japan, Denise Burkholder of Landisville, PA, Roger Lauper of Hawthorne, FL, Robin (Mike) Douglas of Gainesville, FL. He is also survived by his children, Douglas (Karen) Rynders of Corning, NY, Beth (Richard) Gams of Waterloo, SC, Kimberly English of Elmira, NY, Scott (Peggy) Rynders of Richmond, VA; as well as his brothers, Gerald and Donald Rynders. Harry leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. A private celebration of Harry's life and burial will be held by his family at a later date. Special thanks to the many health care workers of Elcor, Arnot Ogden Dialysis Unit, as well as countless others who provided Harry with hours of personal care. SANDORE Richard "Dick" Sandore 

88, died on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Elcor Nursing Facility in Horseheads. Dick was born in Elmira, NY on June 14, 1924, to Joseph and Margaret Milliken Sandore. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jean Nolan Sandore, in 2001, and sister, Ellen Carroll. Survived by five sons, Michael (Michalene) Sandore of Syracuse, Thomas (Patricia) Sandore, Mark Sandore (Mary Ann Wilk) and David Sandore (Carol Doland) all of Elmira, and Daniel (Paige) Sandore of Windermere, FL; grandchildren, Michael Sandore of Chicago, IL, Jacquelyn Sandore of Elmira, Kevin Sandore of Huntersville, NC, Audrey Sandore of Syracuse, Cortney and Taylor Sandore of Charlottesville, VA, and Adam Sandore of Boston, MA; brother, Joseph (Doris) Sandore of Syracuse; sister, Patricia Mower, of Rochester; several nieces and nephews. Dick was a WWII combat veteran having served in Normandy, France, Belgium and Germany. He was employed for many years as an Asst. Treasurer at Marine Midland Bank and later as an agent for the NYS Lottery. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Southside Church, was a member of the Fur, Fin and Feather Club and Elmira BPO Elks. Arrangements are being made by Olthof Funeral Home. It was Dick's wishes that there be no calling hours. There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Followed by graveside prayers at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery where the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Sandore military honors. SEELEY Harry William “Hank”

TAMPA - Harry ''Hank'' W. Seely, retired rear admiral of the U.S. Navy, died Thursday (July 16, 1987). He was 77.  Born in Rochester, N.Y., he had lived in Tampa for the past 10 years.  A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in 1932, he served on the battleships New York and Mississippi. He served on the staff of Admiral Harry E. Yarnell, commander in chief of the Asiatic Fleet. In 1940, he was assigned to the Navy Contingent at the New York World's Fair, and the following year, he put the USS Washington into commission. During his career in the Navy, he served two tours of duty and was commanding officer of the USS Whitley. He retired in 1956.  After his retirement, he worked 13 years for Texas Instruments Inc. as an executive director and manager of the Washington office.  He was a member of the Naval Academy Alumni Association, the Tampa Orchid Society, the American Orchid Society, the Tampa Navy League and the Carrollwood Village Golf and Tennis Club.   Survivors include his wife, Louise, Tampa; two sons, Harry W. Jr., Jackson, Miss., and Richard M. Wooten, Columbia, Md.; a sister Margot Drew, Orlando, and two grandchildren.   Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center or the American Cancer Society are preferred. Arrangements are being handled by Curry & Son Funeral Home, Tampa. 

 

STATHAM Kenneth K. Statham

Kenneth K. Statham, age 86, of Wellsboro, PA, formerly of Tioga, PA, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Green Home, Wellsboro, PA. Kenneth was born February 26, 1926 in Ulysses, PA, a son of Lewie Statham. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII. He worked for the Tioga Boar Hunting Preserve in Tioga before his retirement. Kenneth enjoyed playing the spoons. He was a lifetime member of the Corning Moose, and past member of the American Legion Post 235 in Tioga, PA. Kenneth is survived by his five children and special friend, Rosemary Wetmore of Tioga. He was predeceased by his mother, Lewie.   In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. STRANGE Rodney Strange

age 92, of Southport, NY, died on Friday, September 7, 2012, after living a full and productive life. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty in 1997; stepson, James C. Smetanka in 2011; parents, Charles and Sophie Strange; and his 18 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son, of whom he was extremely proud, Rodney J. Strange; a daughter that he adored, Patricia L. Smetanka (Bob Walsh); stepsons, Thomas and William (Joann) Smetanka; grandsons that meant the world to him, Kevin (Sarah), Kyle, and Sean Smetanka, and Justin Kline; great-granddaughters, Hannah Smetanka and Hailey Kline; great-grandson, Skyler Kline. He is also survived by close friends, Ronald and Judy Klossner; special niece, Delcine (James) Chimileski; several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and many friends. Rodney was born in Sayre, PA on March 8, 1920. He graduated from Sayre High School and then joined the U.S. Army. He was an honorably discharged WWII veteran. Over the years, Rodney worked at several religious institutions that he came to love: Notre Dame High School, St. Mary Our Mother, First Baptist Church, and Park Church. He loved antiques, gardening, history, and taking care of his lawn in the summer. He was a New York Yankees fan and enjoyed making fresh evergreen and blue spruce wreaths at Christmastime. His family would like to thank the staff on the 3rd floor at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the wonderful care they provided their Dad during his stay there. They would also like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Sisters of Mercy at the Notre Dame Convent for their everlasting friendship and caring for Rodney over the years. TOMAINO Joseph S. Tomaino

92, died Thursday afternoon, July 26, 2012, upon arrival at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury, Vt.  He was born May 4, 1920 in Westfield, the son of V. James and Mary (Warmus) Tomaino.  Joseph was a 1939 graduate of Westfield High School and entered the U.S. Army after graduation. He served during World War II and also the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.  After the war Joe returned home and attended college courses at night for interior design, starting his own business which he operated for more than 50 years, Tomaino's Interior Decor, in Mt. Holly, N.J. Joseph was a longtime attendant of Lighthouse Tabernacle in Lumberton before moving to Vermont.  He enjoyed puttering around, buying antique furniture, gardening, mowing his lawn, and up keep on his property in Orwell, Vt. He was always on his tractor everywhere he went and had a hat for every occasion.  He is survived by his wife, Constance (Clow) Tomaino, who he married July 10, 1942 in Westfield; his children, James R. Tomaino and his wife, Cindy, Vermont; Rosan Tomaino Hunter and her husband, Robert, Virginia; Tim Tomaino and his wife, Erin, Cherry Hill; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Tina Tomaino Gourley and Bonnie Tomaino Kairis; his brother, Michael Tomaino; and his sister, Jeannette Cook.  Wellsboro Gazette – August 20, 2012

 

TURNER David MacAllister Turner

a native of Towanda and the son of the late Hulett MacAllister Turner and Floy Lilly Turner, was born May 17, 1917. He graduated from Towanda Area High School in 1933 and attended Lycoming College and the University of Virginia. Mr. Turner had an extensive career in publishing, starting in 1939 at his family's century-old newspaper business, The Towanda Printing Company. Mr. Turner became editor and publisher in 1951. When he retired in 1977, he and his wife, Marion, moved to Naples, Fla.  David served in the US Navy in World War II with duty in the South Pacific. During his newspaper career he served as President of the Pennsylvania Division of the associated Press and President of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association. In 1961 he was one of 14 newsmen from around the world to visit Antarctica for the US Navy.  As he ended his publishing career, David's interests turned to state politics which had been part of his family's history. His grandfather, Dr. Charles Lilly, served in Congress with Teddy Roosevelt and in 1910 Roosevelt selected Dr. Lilly to inspect the Panama Canal. David served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for two terms. He was honored for his service by the Mayor of Philadelphia who presented him with the key to the city of Philadelphia in 1976. David served as chief of the Towanda Fire Department and was also a member of the Naiad-Linta Fire Company.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Citizens and Northern Bank of Towanda and the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. When he and Marion retired to Naples, Fla., they were part of a group who built the first home in Immokalee with Habitat for Humanity. He was also President of the Immokalee Child Care Center.  David was an avid sports fan and won the Towanda Country Club's Gold Championship in 1947. He was a dedicated volunteer and participated in many organizations such as flying for the Civil Air Patrol, and served in many capacities at the First Presbyterian Church of Naples.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marion Smith Turner. Other survivors include children David Jr. (Bette) of Waleska, Ga., Alison Walton (Edward) of Jacksonville, Fla. and Dera Shearer (Robert) of Reidsville, N.C. ULMER Roger N. Ulmer

age 88 of Columbia Cross Roads, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 at the Bradford County Manor. Roger was born March 25, 1924 in Rittman, Ohio son of the late Samuel and Lilly (Repsher) Ulmer. He graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1941. Roger was a veteran of World War II. He joined the U.S. Navy on Dec. 25, 1942 and was honorably discharged on Feb. 2, 1946. He married the former Marjorie Houseworth two days after returning home from the service on Feb. 4, 1946 in Baltimore, Md. and they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Following a career that spanned 47 years, he retired from the Reigel Paper Corporation on May 30, 1986. Following retirement he and Marjorie then moved to Bradford County.  Roger was an active member of his community in many civic memberships, which included the Troy and Gillett Senior Citizens, life member of the East Smithfield and Troy V.F. W. Post 7378 where he served as Chaplain. Prior to moving to Bradford County Roger previously served three terms on the Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church Council, organized the Upper Black Eddy Sportsman Association and served as President for 12 years. He also helped organize the P.T.O. at Bridgeton Elementary School where he served 6 years on the school board and was also treasurer. Roger was also a member of the Palisades School Board and served as Treasurer while it was being built. Roger was also Auditor of Bridgetown Township for three years and worked diligently to secure the original financing for the Little League of Bridgeton Township.  Survivors include his wife of 66 years Marjorie H. Ulmer of Columbia Cross Roads; a daughter Joann Hoppaugh of Columbia Cross Roads; grandson, Daniel R. (Kimberly) Hoppaugh of Columbia Cross Roads; great-grandchildren, Paige Cook and Daniel Hoppaugh, Jr.; and his nieces, nephews and friends. VAUGHN James W.

Formerly of Blossburg, PA: James W. "Walt" Vaughn, 88, of Orefield, formerly of Blossburg, Tioga County, died Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Uarda V. (Scaife) Vaughn. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last April 6. Born in Charleston Township, Tioga County, March 2, 1924, Walt was the son of the late William Curtis and Esther (Jones) Vaughn. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II with a rank of Staff Sergeant. He was employed as a carpenter at the former J.P. Ward Foundry, Inc. in Blossburg for 34 years before retiring in 1984. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Blossburg. Walt's memberships and accomplishments include, a Life Member of the DAV, a member of the Howard L. Peter American Legion Post # 354, Allentown, a life member of VFW Post # 8730, Blossburg, a 50 year member and twice Past Master of the Bloss Lodge #350, F. & A.M., a member of the Valley of Williamsport Consistory and the Rajah Shrine, Reading. An avid outdoorsman, he was a life member of the Copeechan Fish & Game Club, Schnecksville, an honorary member of the Guthsville Rod & Gun Club and a life member of the Hillside Rod & Gun Club, Blossburg.  Survivors: In addition to his wife, Uarda; sons, James R. WADE Marvin James Wade

88 of 8683 Troy Road, Painted Post, NY, died Friday, September 21st, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Cameron, WV, he was the son of the late James and Doris (Bryan) Wade. Marvin married Dorothy Harrington February 14th, 1948 in Corning, she survives him.  Marvin graduated from Butler High School, Butler Pa., he then attended the University of Pittsburgh. He served with the US Army in Iwo Jima during World War II.  “Jim” was a heavy equipment mechanic, employed by Operating Engineers Local 66, Pittsburgh, PA  for fifty years, retiring in 1984.  He was a member of Pine Island, FL Moose Club and VFW there.   He is survived by his wife Dorothy, one daughter: Patricia (Joseph) Farr of Lawrenceville, PA and one son: James (Cindy) Wade of Bentleyville, PA, grandson, Jeffrey (Tracy) Wade of Tionesta, Pa., granddaughter, Janelle Farr of Tioga, PA. WILLIAMS Theodore James Williams

91, died September 21, 2012 after a brief illness.  Ted, as he was known by many, was born in Lynn, Pennsylvania, February 25, 1921; after serving in WWII he lived most of his adult life in the valley.  He was a self-made man; in the late 1950s he opened a plumbing and heating shop on Broad Street, Waverly, N.Y. He then opened a billiard hall in the 60’s. He and his wife Auseneth, (Pat) ran these business hand in hand until they retired and moved to Paisley, Florida in 1971. His wife Auseneth Platt Williams went to be with the Lord in 2001.  Ted leaves his sons, Calvin and James Williams; his three daughters, Sondra Learn, Carol Cornish, and Cindy Schrock; 14 grandchildren, Pam (Gene) Monchak Tammy (Mike) Burch, Ann Dickey, Candy (Gene) Gott, Ted (Lisa) Cornish, Dan (Anna) Cornish, Joe (Jessica) Cornish, Mike (Becky) Cornish, John (Donna) Williams, Calvin (Christa) Williams, James Williams, Chris Schrock; 30 great-grandchildren; 14 greatgreat grandchildren; as well as his sister and brother-in-laws, Joanne and Bob Stevens, Jessie and Joe Arcesi, and Genadive Babcock, and many nephews and nieces.  He also leaves great memories of his wit, kindness, and genuine love for people. YOUNG Harold J. Young

age 86, transitioned to his eternal home Friday evening, October 5, 2012. He was formerly of Camp Hill, Pa., until he moved to Elmcroft of Dillsburg where he had many friends consisting of both residents and facility staff members. He will be greatly missed by all.  Harold was born in Bentley Creek, Pa., to the late Elbridge and Marion (Crainey) Young. He was an employee of Remington Rand and retired after 25 years of service. After moving from Bentley Creek to the Camp Hill area, he worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and for several years was a school bus driver.  In his retirement years, Harold served as the bus driver for the Jacob Brothers Evangelistic Association. He was not only the "JBs" bus driver but also their friend. On occasion, he was invited to sing with them during their gospel concerts and was also fondly known for his amusing jokes. In his younger years, Harold was an avid hunter and loved fishing.   Harold was proud to be a veteran of World War II. He served with the 263rd Infantry of the U.S. Army and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge.  Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte (Billings) Young, and his two daughters, Barbara Young and LaVonne Pearson.  He is survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herman and Theresa Carringer of Camp Hill and Wendell and Enid Lahr of Northumberland, PA, along with several cousins.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11, at Harold's church, Christian Life Assembly, 2645 Lisburn Road, Camp Hill, Pa., 17011 with Pastor Ron Smith officiating. ZAGOZEWSKI Carl L Zagozewski

89, of Charlotte, N.C., formally of Corning, N.Y., and Phoenix, Ariz., died on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at The Oaks of Town Center Nursing Home, Harrisburg, N.C., following an extended illness, with his family by his side. Carl was born on September 17, 1922, in Sayre, Pa., the oldest of five siblings to Paul and Stella Husick Zagozewski.  Carl graduated from Sayre High School, class of 1940.  He served in the US Army from 1942-1946 as a Lab Technician, serving in India and Palm Springs, Ca.  He married Catherine Blakeman on June 16, 1945 at the Sayre Epiphany Church and they spent 56 wonderful years together before Kate’s death in 2001. They raised three daughters, Ginger, Marsha and Jennifer and created many memories together along with their daughter’s.  The girls always said ‘Dad can fix Anything, and he Always Did!’  Carl was a Contractor and avid musician; music was the love of his life. His trio’s played in many clubs in the valley as well as in Elmira and Corning.  He left the valley after 50 years to pursue his music talents and moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and spent 30 years in Mesa. He played at the Golden Hills Country Club for many years and even went to perform with his trio at Lake Tahoe; a wonderful memory for him.  His groups were named The Zaglan Trio and The Music Maestro’s and at one time Nostalgia. He played with many wonderful musicians in the valley and a lot of times with his very talented brother Philip, as well as a dear friend Jake, who also resided in Corning, N.Y.  Carl moved to Charlotte, N.C., in June due to declining health.  Carl loved the Valley and all its beautiful views, and especially Harris Hill. He spent a lot of time watching the gliders along with his best little friend, Snoball, his little Bichon. They spent 16 wonderful years together.  He and Snoball traveled extensively throughout the country and visited friends and relatives to make many wonderful memories. You never saw one without the other. Snoball will now reside at the Beers Home in Charlotte, and upon his death he will be cremated and join his dad to rest in peace together eternally. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine in 2001, his parents and his daughter Jennifer Peters in 1984, grandson Johnny Peters in 1995, brother, Eddie Zagozewski, as well as sisters Pauline Senkow and Ann Bloom. Surviving are his daughters, Virginia (Ginger) Lafollette of Waverly, N.Y., Marsha (Duane) Beers of Charlotte, N.C., brother, Philip of Mainsburg, Pa., grandchildren: Billy Creedon, Jeff Creedon, Lisa Creedon, Alison (Greg) Ferro, and Andrea (Denny) Bean, David and Brian Beers, Kimberly Peters; and several great=grandchildren; nieces and nephews. ZOGBY Frederick Zogby

aged 85, died on Sunday, September 30, 2012, after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. He died at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Jay Gould in Horseheads, NY. He was born in Utica, the son of Rigwan and Agea (Francis) Zogby. He graduated from Proctor High School and attended Utica College. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy. He married Mary Price on September 29, 1951. They were married for 41 years, until her death in 1992. Fred owned and operated the Pride O'Utica Ice Cream Company with his brother Joseph Zogby. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Jay Gould of Horseheads, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary; and his three sons, Mark, Thomas and Daniel. He was also predeceased by sisters, Julia Sfeir and Louise Hazzouri; and brothers, Joseph and Louis Zogby. Heartfelt thanks to the numerous Doctors, Nurses and Healthcare Professionals for the compassionate care of Fred and support to his family during this journey. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford, NY where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica at the convenience of the family. At Fred's request there will be no public calling hours. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Funeral Mass.
