86, of Dundee and formerly Watkins Glen, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010.

services will follow at 12 noon; burial with Full Military Honors at Hillside
Cemetery, a dish-to-pass reception will be held at the Dundee American
Legion. He was predeceased by wife, Dorothy; and granddaughter, Shannon
Roupp; also several brothers and sisters. He is survived by daughters,
Gloria Ameigh (Timothy Nichols), Gertrude (Ken) McCracken, Joyce Ameigh;
sisters, Gertrude (Willis) Silvernail, Florence (Donald) Andrews; four
grandchildren, Vernon Tipaldos, Jeremy Belanger, Jessica (Robert) Church,
and Sheena Nichols (fiancé Jason Rounds); three great-grandchildren,
Abrianna Nichols, Collin Tipaldos, and Alexander Rounds. Vernon was a U.S.
Army veteran, proudly serving in WWII in Borneo and the Philippine Islands;
he also was a member of the VFW Post 2674 of Watkins Glen and Carpenters

BAILEY Leonard Morrell
Age 84, of Mansfield, PA, died Friday, December 18, 2009 at Broad Acres
Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsboro, PA. Leonard was born January
8, 1925 in Mansfield, PA a son of Ross and Mildred (Whitaker) Bailey. He
was married to Shirley (Husted) Bailey. Leonard attended school in Mansfield
and Wellsboro. He entered Mansfield College in 1941, left in March of 1943
to join the Army, being attached to the Air Force. He received his basic
training in Atlantic City. He was later sent to Italy by way of North Africa.
After discharge he returned to Mansfield College, graduating in 1947. Len
had a long career in education beginning in Emporium, PA in science in
1947. While there he served as scout master, Sunday school teacher, basketball
coach, and became a charter member of the new Emporium Lions Club. Receiving
his Masters Degree at St. Bonaventure University, he left Emporium in 1956
to accept a position as Guidance Counselor at Booth School in Elmira, NY.
Later transferred from Booth to Hendy Avenue where he served as assistant
principal and counselor. One year later he moved to Broadway Junior High
as principal. Retirement came on June of 1983. Many wonderful summers were
spent at Camp Red Cloud, Plattsburg, NY where Len was a Head Camp Craft
Counselor for several years. Len is survived by his wife, Shirley; son,
Mark D. Bailey of Tioga, wife Lori, grandchildren, Adam and Tiffany. He
was predeceased by a son, Steven, parents, Ross and Mildred Bailey, and
a brother, Lawrence. Private funeral services will be held with family
and friends at Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC,
637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA with Rev. Allen Hulslander officiating.

BEEBE Paul B.
Age 81, of Odessa, NY, died on Friday, January 15, 2010, at Schuyler
Hospital, Montour Falls, NY. Paul was predeceased by his wife, Theresa;
also siblings, Clyde, Joy, Neal and Nelson Beebe. He is survived by children,
Paul (Winona) Beebe of Montour Falls, and Roxanne Edsall (Wayne Mosher)
of Odessa; brother, Guy (Ginger) Beebe of Montour Falls; sister, Elsie
Brewer of Dundee; and brother, Merton (Gladys) Beebe of Alpine; sisters-in-law,
Connie Beebe of Horseheads and Marion Beebe of Apalachin; three grandchildren,
Jason (Emily) Edsall, Bryon and Amber Beebe; three great-grandchildren,
Jacob Edsall, Matthew and Kayla White; and dear friends, Donna and Vern
Meek of Savona. Paul served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr.
Beebe was retired as Schuyler County Highway Superintendant; a member of
the Mechanics Club of Montour Falls, a lifetime member of the Elks, B.P.O.E.
1548 of Watkins Glen, and International Union of Operating Engineers. The
family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral
Home, on Monday, January 18, from 12 noon-2:00 p.m.; a funeral service
will be held immediately following at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Beverly Karr-Lyon
will officiate, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery with Military

BIDDLE John Craig
Age 85, of High Point, NC, died on December 27, 2009 at Westchester
Manor Nursing Center. He was born in Elmira, NY on April 9, 1924 to Robert
E. and Ruth Wilcox Biddle. Mr. Biddle was educated in the Elmira schools
and graduated from Springfield College in Springfield, MA in 1949, after
service in the US Navy during World War II. He and his family lived in
Waverly, NY, Springfield, MA, Newington, CT, Winter Park, FL, and Tallahassee,
FL, before retiring to High Point in 1989. Mr. Biddle's career in journalism
and public relations spanned four decades, during which he worked for the
Elmira Star Gazette, Springfield College, Travelers Insurance Co., The
Orlando Sentinel, and the Florida Association of Realtors. In 1953, he
married the former Jennie Francis, who survives at home. He is also survived
by a son, Stephen Craig Biddle of Orlando, FL; daughter, Kendra Biddle
of High Point; and a granddaughter, Kristen Li-Jie Biddle. In addition,
he leaves behind his sister, Anne Preston of Canton; four nieces and three
nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning,
December 30, at First Presbyterian Church in High Point, with Dr. Ken Broman-Fulks
and the Reverend Lisa Mullen officiating. Visitation with the family will
take place in the church parlor immediately following the service. Memorials

BRIGGS Douglas R.
84 years, of Corning, NY, died Tuesday, January 12, 2009, at Hershey
Medical Center in Pennsylvania. The son of D. Wilson and Emily DuBois Briggs,
Doug was born March 19, 1925 in Orange, NJ. After graduating from The Hotchkiss
School, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. He served as a Heavy
Mortar Crewman in Company D, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division,
fighting in seven countries to include the Battle of the Bulge in World
War II. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he attended Northeastern
University and obtained a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. While at Northeastern,
he was Chapter President of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society,
and served as the editor-in-chief of the Cauldron, Northeastern's yearbook.
He was a member of Who's Who in American Colleges, and his academic average
of 3.829 earned him three Sears B. Condit awards. He graduated in 1951
with high honors from Northeastern, receiving the Alumni Award, and earned
his Masters Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1952.
Doug joined the Corning Glass Works in 1954 and met his wife Barbara Brown
in 1957. They raised three children, Elizabeth Emily, David Douglas (wife,
Tracey and children, Benjamin, Zachery and Jessica), and Laura Ann (husband
Dave). Doug was a longtime member of the First Congregational United Church
of Christ in Corning, singing with the choir for over 40 years, and serving
as a Trustee. He was an avid golfer, spending many Saturdays at the St.
Charles Country Club in Hornby, and sharing his passion by teaching golf
at the YMCA in the 1990s. He was also a keen reader, often finishing two
books in one day. He was interred in St. Mary's Cemetery on January 14,
2009. Services will be held at the United Church of Christ, 171 W. Pulteney
Street, Corning, NY on Sunday, January 17, 2009, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers,

BURRELL Courtney L.
Age 94, of 3005 Watkins Road, Horseheads, formerly of Painted Post,
died on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born
on September 8, 1915 in Westfield, PA, the son of the late Harry and the
late Laura (Howland) Burrell. He married Lillian Wilson on July 15, 1939.
She predeceased him on June 7, 2009. Courtney graduated from Northside
High School in 1934 and was a veteran of the US Army during WWII, having
served as a Medical Corpsman during the Philippines campaign. He retired
from Corning Glass Works in 1979. This year, he celebrated 75 years of
service. Courtney was a member of the Corning American Legion and the Corning
VFW. He was also a member of the Corning Moose Lodge, Masonic Order and
the Shiners of Binghamton. He is survived by a daughter, Carol (Dr. Donald)
Rubin of Corning; sister, Gretchen Huber of Ulysses, PA; and a brother,
Keith (Norma) Burrell of Allegan, MI. He also has four grandchildren, Kaili
(Frank) Pelzer of San Fransisco, CA; Dr. Richard (Elise) Rubin of Rochester,
NY; Jill (Zachary) Hummel of New York City, NY, and Matthew (Cece) Rubin
of CA; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Alexa, Tristan, Kerrigan and Stefan;
and several nieces and nephews. Courtney was predeceased by his sister,
Audrey Wilson. Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter's Funeral
Home, 14 E. Pulteney Street, Corning, on Saturday, January 2, 2010, from
11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Courtney's funeral services will follow calling

CHAFFEE - Delmar B. Chaffee, 84, of 12 Worman Street, Bloomsburg, died Friday, May 7, at his home. He had been in ill health for several years. Delmar was born Friday, Aug. 14, 1925, in LeRaysville, Pa., a son of the late Louis and Clara Carr Chaffee. He graduated from the Orwell High School of Rome, Pa., in 1941. Following graduation he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. As a carpenter, he was employed by Dugan/Markon Inc. of Allentown. He retired in 1987. Delmar was a member of Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post No. 273 and Ft. McClure Post No. 804 VFW. Survivors include his companion of 27 years, Mary Anna (Edgar) Williams; four sons, Dennis Chaffee and wife, Christine, of Rome, Pa., Barry Chaffee and wife, Carol, of Rome, Pa., Alan Chaffee and wife, Janet, of Nantucket Island, Mass., and Thomas Chaffee of Wellsboro; a step-daughter, Stacy Semborski and husband, Joe, of Bloomsburg; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one and sister, Shirley Enck of Oneonta, N.Y. COLEMAN Owen - He graduated from LeRaysville High School in 1938. While in high school he played basketball, helping his team win a league championship one year, and was involved in other activities including orchestra, soccer and FFA. He was salutatorian of his class. He later graduated from Penn State with a degree in agricultural economics and rural sociology. After college, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II. He was a radar man aboard Yard Mine Sweeper 111, spending time in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans until the small ship was badly damaged in a storm. After his time in the Navy, Arno worked for the Veterans Administration, teaching agriculture to returning Bradford County-area veterans. In the meantime, he began selling insurance on the side for the Farm Bureau Mutual company. Eventually, he switched jobs and went to work full time for Farm Bureau, which later became Nationwide. Arno went on to spend 52 years with Nationwide, working from a small office with gingerbread trim, a former barber shop, along Main Street, LeRaysville. In early years, he spent many a night visiting clients in their homes to explain policies to them. He believed in treating customers right and enjoyed meeting and serving many people in both his insurance and VA careers. While traveling local roads with his family in later years he often would remark about having known people in those areas through one of those professions. On Aug. 27, 1952, he married his long-time sweetheart, Loretta BRIGGS, in State College, Pa. In earlier years, Arno was active in many Masonic organizations, including LeRay Lodge No. 471 (past master), the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Towanda No. 067, Williamsport Consistory, Union Royal Arch Chapter No. 161 (past high priest), Northern Commandery No. 16 Knights Templar (past commander) and Irem Shrine. In 2009, he received a 60-year membership pin from LeRay Lodge. Until health problems of his own and in the family prevented him, Arno attended Neath Welsh Congregational Church, in earlier years serving as church clerk and being involved with the Bible study. He was a member of VFW Post 6824, Rome. Arno lived most of his life in the house where he was born. Over the years, he enjoyed lawn and garden work; golfing; shopping and eating out with family; spending time with his brother, the late William Coleman; Penn State football; and his pets. He was devoted to faith, his country, and his home and family. Arno is survived by his wife, Loretta BRIGGS Coleman, of LeRaysville; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ken Sharer of Stevens Township, Pa.; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty Mallow, formerly of Wellsboro, Pa., and now of the Sherwood Personal Care Home, in Canton, Pa., Harriett and Cart Roof of Standing Stone, Pa., and Steve and Florence Webb of Advance, N.C.; his nieces and nephews, Gene and Pam Beers, Cynthia and Jeff Aeppli, Dan and Barb Webb, Diane Webb, and Darlene and Steve Cary, and their families; and cousins. Arno was predeceased by his son, Jimmy; parents, James and Mary Coleman; brother and sister-in-law, William and Thelma Coleman; a brother-in-law, Golden Mallow; and an infant daughter, Mary. MR. BENJAMIN H. COMFORT, JR., 83, of Ralston and Trout Run, died January 4th, 2009 at The Gatehouse Hospice of the Divine Providence Hospital at Williamsport. Born December 26, 1925 at Southport, NY, he was the son of the late Benjamin H. and Maude (Schofield) Comfort. Ben is survived by his wife, Florence E. (Betty) Comfort of the homes. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 12, 2008. Also surviving are son Benjamin H. (Sue) Comfort III, daughter Debra S. (Nelson) Forsburg, son-in-law Russell Frey III, son Leslie J. (Nazuna) Comfort, and son Mark L. (Beth) Comfort Sr. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Esther Campbell of Williamsport and many nieces and nephews. Ben was predeceased by a daughter, Mary F. (Comfort) Frey, brother Gerald Comfort, and sisters Mary Comfort Emig, Elizabeth (Betty) Comfort Schmouder Nelson, and Kathleen (Kate) Comfort Fields. Ben retired from Hon Industries where he worked as the Supervisor of Hardware. Ben led an exciting and interesting life, having built railroads in Liberia, Africa from 1960 63, the elevated rail system in Chicago in 1970, and highways in New York and Pennsylvania for many years. He served as a supervisor for McIntyre Township for 18 years. When Ralston celebrated its sesquicentennial in 1988, its citizens voted Ben honorary mayor of its 150-year history. Ben was a longtime member of Ralston United Methodist Church and served in various leadership roles within the church. He was a member of American Legion Post 1 in Williamsport and a past member of various fraternal organizations within the city. He was a decorated United States Army Veteran of World War II, serving with the 97th Infantry Division as a mortarman and radio operator and earning the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman's Badge during combat in the European Theater. He later served seven months with the Army of Occupation in Japan. Pallbearers include various sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers include Dennis Austin of Ralston, a longtime friend, B. Dales Dawes of Williamsport, Ben and Betty's best man and longtime friend, Nelson L. Forsburg, son-in-law, Russell C. Frey III, son-in-law, "Duke" Lukens of Williamsport, Ben's Army buddy and a longtime friend, and Sheldon Thompson of Trout Run, a longtime friend. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Ralston United Methodist Church, Highway 14, Ralston, PA. The Rev. Anne Overmiller, pastor, will officiate. CONNOR James W.
90, formerly of Wagner Hill Road, died late Friday afternoon, January
22, 2010, at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath. Born in Hornell
on November 26, 1919, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna Dentlinger
Connor. He was married in 1943 at St. Joseph's Church in Scio to the former
Helen Agnes O'Brien, who predeceased him in 2003, after 60 years of marriage.
Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his son, Mark
Connor; and his sister, Rita Anne Connor Talbott. A graduate of Avon High
School in 1937, Jim received his Bachelor's degree in engineering from
the University of Michigan in 1942. He was also a graduate of Company F
Ordinance Officer Candidate School in Maryland and served his country in
the U.S. Army from 1942 to his honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant
in 1946. Jim was employed by the former Erie and Erie-Lackawanna Railroads
and retired as a Superintendent from Conrail in 1983. Because of his career
with the railroad, he traveled extensively. He has been a resident of Avoca,
where he resided at the family farm on the Wagner Hill Road. A former member
of the Barber Shoppers in Hornell, some of his favorite pastimes include
playing the piano, woodworking, mechanical repairs, carpentry and spending
time sitting on the porch at his home. His family includes his three children,
Michael (Colleen) Connor of Dover, OH, Fr. Patrick Connor of Bradford and
Brian (Belinda) Connor of Cohocton; his daughter-in-law, Donna Connor of
Pensacola, FL; his six grandchildren, Matthew (Jill) Connor, Andrew and
Thomas Connor, all of Ohio; Charles (Pam) Connor of Cohocton, Sean Connor
of Addison and Jessica Connor of Pensacola, FL; his three great-grandchildren,
Daniel, Caitlin and Nicholas Connor; his brother, Charles (Suzie) Connor
of Highland Ranch, CO; his brother-in-law, Richard Talbott of Bath, PA;
also his nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends, Dodie and Jim McKechney
of Avon as well as the Schwartz Family of Wheeler. To honor his wishes,

HARRY K. CRANDALL JR., 86 of 105 Hillcrest Dr. died at the Robert Packer Hospital Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005. Born Dec. 20, 1918 in Sayre, he was the son of the late Harry and Helen Heggie Crandall. For most of his life, Harry was a member of the Athens First Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Athens High School class of 1937 and Cornell University class of 1942. Harry entered the U.S. Army Air Corps after college and served during World War II, attaining the rank of Captain. An avid golfer, he belonged to the Shepard Hills Country Club. He was employed with the Ingersoll Rand, Athens. Following that, he was employed with Guthrie Clinic as Clinic Manager. Harry was predeceased by his first wife, Vivian Shedden Crandall and his brother, Vine Crandall. Surviving are his wife of 33 years Eleanor at home; daughter, Cameron Anthony of Mesa, Ariz.; his sons and daughters-in-law, Kip and Sheila Crandall of Sayre, Pa., Roger and Joan Price of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Jerry and Peggy Price of Smith Mountain Lake, Va. And Randy and Elaine Price of Greenville, S.C.; 12 combined grandchildren and 14 combined great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard and Joann Crandall of Boulder, Colo. and Robert Crandall of Altadena, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. CROUSE Howard E. Crouse of Sayre, Pa. and Three Mile Bay, N.Y.
died
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at ElderWood Healthcare in Waverly,
N.Y. at the age of 91. Howard was born in Cape Vincent, N.Y. on Nov. 11,
1918 to Roy and Katherine ROBBINS Crouse. He graduated from Dexter High
School in Dexter, N.Y. He was employed by New York Air Brake, Watertown,
N.Y. until 1962 when relocated to Athens, Pa. where he was employed by
Ingersoll Rand in Athens. During his employment at IR he worked as the
foreman of the heat treat plant. Howard was a decorated combat veteran.
He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. As a Crew Chief on
PBY Catalina Flying Boats in VPB 25, he spent almost two years conducting
black cat operations predominately behind enemy lines and participated
in the liberation of the Philippine Islands. His awards include; the Distinguished
Flying Cross, Air Medal (two awards), Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine
Liberation Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Ribbon.
In 1947, he married Mildred DeCARLO in Watertown. He is survived
by his wife, Mildred; children sons Michael of Elmira, Philip (Fran) of
Athens and daughter Paula (John) McNeil of Athens; his grandchildren: Todd
(Kari), Patrick, Ryan Crouse, Kristin (Charles) Kennedy, Jamie and Scott
McNeil, and Katherine and Joe Crouse, and four great-grandsons. Also surviving
him is one niece Doris Dingman of Cape Vincent, N.Y. He is predeceased
by his sisters, Doris Crouse and Ona Allen. He was a life member
of the American Legion Post 0583 in Dexter, NY and VFW Post 1536 Sayre.
Howard enjoyed summers at Point Peninsula on Lake Ontario. At the
request of the family there will be no calling hours. A memorial service
will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers
donations can be made in Howard’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.

MAX G. DAY, 79 of Hillsgrove died Jan. 311, 2005. He was the husband of Patricia Day and they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary April 6. He was born June 16, 1925 in Williamsport, the son of Irvin and Margaret (Scaife) Day. He worked may years for Blair Lumber Company at Barbours, eleven years for Seipel Construction Company, Sunbury and retired from Lycoming College as a carpenter. He was a life member of the Plunketts Creek Volunteer Fire Company, a director of the Barbours Cemetery Association and a member of Local 287 Carpenters Union. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the 2nd Armored Division and also the 13th Armored Division under General George Patton. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Robert (Brenda) Day and a daughter, June Creveling both of Williamsport; a sister, Althea Reeder of Eureka, CA and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, June Emmons of Westfield; a father-in-law, Ralph Casselberry and two brothers-in-law, Van Emmons of Westfield and Omar Reeder of Eureka, CA. Private funeral services were held with burial in the Barbours Cemetery. Age 82, of Sullivanville, NY, died on January 1, 2010 at St. Joseph's
Hospital. He was born on February 25, 1927 in White Plains, NY. A World
War II veteran and a graduate of Alfred University, he is retired from
the Westinghouse Corporation. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine
Tigh; daughter, Janet Hobbs (Carter) of Lakeway, TX; sons, John (Mary)

LYMAN J. DIBBLE age 77 of Wellsboro, PA died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at his home. Lyman was the husband of Betty (Sherman) Dibble. They would have observed their 58th wedding anniversary on May 17th. Lyman was born on June 13, 1927 in North Fork, PA, the son of Glenn and Vivian (Mallory) Dibble. Lyman was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He was a self-employed dairy farmer for may years. Lyman’s favorite pastimes included golfing, hunting, tractor pulls, farming and building. Lyman is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Erich Hahn of Brookline, NH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Susan Dibble of Lebanon, PA, Scott and Rosanne Dibble of Mansfield, PA; five grandchildren, Shannon, Tricia, Traci, Kurt, Courtney; three great-grandchildren, Liberty, Breanna and Dana. A son Dana Dibble in 1976; and a brother, Glenn in 2000 preceded him in death. In keeping with Lyman’s wishes there will be no services. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery, Potter Co., PA. DIEKMANN Lorraine Stanley, 95, died Thursday at her daughters' residence in Allentown, N.J. Born in Canton, Ohio, she also resided in Florida and South Carolina, and lived in the greater Baltimore area for most of her life. She split her time over the past 8 years between her daughters' homes in Allentown, N.J. and Dushore, Pa. Mrs. Stanley was a retired Registered Nurse. She was a 1936 graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and was a U.S. Army nurse in World War II, serving in the 108th General Hospital Corps in Europe, where she met and married her late husband, Thomas Stanley, in France. She was a great believer in volunteer work and always helped out wherever and whenever she could. She was an avid knitter, making children's caps and other clothes, most of which she gave away. Daughter of the late Ernest and Blanche Diekmann, sister of the late Hylbern Diekmann, Janet Harris and Richard Diekmann, and wife of the late Thomas Stanley, she is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Susan and Wallace Noonan of Allentown, N.J. and Janet Stanley of Dushore, Pa.; her grandchildren, Christopher Noonan, David Graves and Matthew Noonan; her great-grandchildren Ashton, Zachary and Ella Jane Noonan; and several nieces and nephews. DIMMICK Wayne Merrill
Age 92, life long resident of Montour Falls, died peacefully on April
25, 2010. After graduating from Cook Academy, he served in the US Navy
during WW II from 1943 to 1946 on the USS Burrows, developing harbors in
the Pacific Theatre. He was a mechanical engineer at Shepard Niles Crane
& Hoist for 41 years. He served in the Schuyler Co legislature for
twelve years, as well as the NYS Fish & Wildlife Board. He was a life
long volunteer in his community through the PTA, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels,
Hospital Auxiliary and Montour Methodist Church. He proudly built his own
home for his family. Always an avid outdoorsman, champion hunter, fisherman,
gardener and a sought after dance partner! He was especially fond of his
summer cottage at Lodi Point, where on his 92nd birthday he demonstrated
to his great grandsons how to do a flip off the diving board. He was predeceased
by his parents Wilson & Mae Perry Dimmick, sister Esther Sue Gauck
and brother Roy Dimmick. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret
Tucker Dimmick; children Maureen (Jack) Huebsch of Cazenovia, Janet McKnight
of Tully, Nancy (Bill) Bennett of Trumansburg, Paul Dimmick of Seneca Lake,
and Perry (Lindsay) Dimmick of Waterloo; grandchildren Brian (Amy) Huebsch,

85 of Brentwood, Tenn., died
on Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Born in
Galeton, he was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Hilfiger Gill and
Dexter L. Gill; siblings, Leonard Gill, Kenneth Gill, Richard Gill, Donzella
(Gill) Kefover and Marjorie (Gill) Cosentino. He is survived by his wife
of 61 years, Norma Horton Gill; two sons, Timothy G. (Margaret) Gill, Franklin
and Steven P. (Karen) Gill, Nashville; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Adam)
Vazquez, Kate Gill, both of Franklin; brother, William A. (Leona) Gill,
Galeton; sister, Joanne (Don) Post of Galeton. Gordon served in the
European and Pacific Theatres for the United States Army during World War
II. For 38 years he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in Franklin
Tenn., a member of the First United Church UCC, a charter member of the
Brentwood Rotary, and graduated from Gannon University in Erie. Funeral
services were on Saturday, May 8, at 2 p.m., First United Church, 3410

GILLILAND - Martha Zoe Curtiss, age 93, of Wellsboro, PA, died Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Green Home, Wellsboro, PA. Martha was born February 1, 1916 in VanWert, Ohio, a daughter of Alanzo and Lois (Swick) Gilliland. She was the wife of Leon Curtiss with whom she celebrated a 62nd anniversary on June 1st. Martha was a teacher and librarian at the Mt. Vernon Academy in Mt. Vernon, OH. She also worked as a librarian. Martha was a Staff Sgt. with the Army WACC during WWII. She enjoyed sewing and made her childrens clothing while they were growing up. Martha is survived by her husband, Leon; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Sue Curtiss of Bethlehem, PA, Vicki Ann and Michael Bernard of Wellsboro, PA; five grandchildren. She was predeceased by five brothers and sisters. CLAYTON E. HILL, 79, “The Bearman,” of 1309 Pleasant Stream Road, Trout Run died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 13, 2006. Born December 13, 1926 in Mooreland Township, he was the son of the late Lester and Esther Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Bertha Jane Hill in 1988. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth L. Hill in 2004. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of the Red Run Rod and Gun club and the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and feeding wild life. He retired after 38 years of service from E. Keeler Company. He then went on to work part-time as the McIntyre Township Roadmaster. He is survived by three daughters, Judy (Dave) Ennis of Marsh Hill, Linda (Fred) Foster of Cogan Station and Penny (Calvin) Hill of Roaring Branch; one son, Robert (Audrey) Hill of Marsh Hill; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. HILL Fredric (Fred) Sadler
Fredric (Fred) Sadler Hill, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather, died
Jesus on Thursday, January
14, 2010. Fred was born October 20, 1918, at home in Elmira, NY, to Andrew
and Susan Sadler Hill, and married the love of his life, Ann Ripley, in
1938. He was a graduate of Cook Academy in Montour Falls, NY, and the University
of Florida. With Ann at his side, Fred had an exciting career in the US
Army retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel in November of 1962. During his
21 years of active service, Fred and Ann were stationed throughout the
United States. Their favorite duty station was at Ft. Sill located in Lawton,
OK, where they made and continued to have many lifelong friends. Fred's
overseas assignments included Korea, Japan, and Alaska before it became
a state. During his career, Fred attended many US Army schools including
the Field Artillery School, Armor School, and the Command and General Staff
School. Among his many awards were the World War II Victory Medal and the
Army Commendation Medal. After retirement from the US Army, Fred returned
to Gainesville with his family and received a Masters degree in secondary
and vocational education from the University of Florida. He then began
a second career in education with the Alachua County School System. Fred
and Ann were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville for
over 40 years and they both were deeply committed to this congregation.
Their history of involvement at First Presbyterian goes back to the days
when his mother attended the church then pastored by Preacher Gordon. As
a member he served as an usher, an elder and was involved with Logos. He
was also a longtime member of the Lions, the Retired Military Officers
Association and a board member of the Florida Credit Union. Our father's
love and dedication to his wife and his children are his lasting legacy
through us and our families. Fred is survived by a daughter, Freddy (Terry)
of Gainesville, FL; and by sons, Andrew (Charlene) of Lawton, Oklahoma,
Michael (Dede) of Gainesville, FL, Mark (Patty) of Gainesville, FL. Grandchildren
include Clifton Murphy and Bradley (Nancy) Hill of Lawton, OK, Andrew (Marie)
Williams of Boston, MA, Lt. Brian Hill, of Goodfellow Air Force Base, TX,
Kelly Hill of Tallahassee, FL, and Jenni Powell, Ali (Ryan) Gadapee, and
Troy Beckham, all of Gainesville, FL. His survivors also include five great-granddaughters,
Elizabeth, Michaela, Rikki Paige, Skylee and Hannah. Fred was preceded
in death by his wife, Ann; and by a grandson, James Williams. A celebration
of his life will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at the First
Presbyterian Church, 300 SW 2nd Avenue, Gainesville, FL, 32601. Internment

COL. PAUL H. KELLOGG, 85. Word has been received from friends in Florida regarding the passing of Col. Paul H. Kellogg, USMC retired, age 85 of Niceville, Fla. His death occurred on Friday, July 19, 2005. Col. Kellogg was born in Towanda on April 20, 1917, the second of three sons of James E. and Ethel A. Kellogg. Paul spent his formative years in the immediate area and graduated from New Albany High School in 1934. He then continued his education doing post graduate work at Towanda High School. Paul’s athletic ability enabled him to acquire a basketball scholarship at the University of Tennessee. Injuries eliminated his playing opportunities and he then transferred to Bloomsburg State Teachers College where he stayed until his final semester at which time he enrolled in the U.S. Naval Aviation Program. Upon completion of the naval aviation program requirements, Paul was selected to join the U.S. Marine Corps Aviation Program. His first assignment as a dive bomber pilot was at Guadalcanal, where he completed many successful missions. Paul suffered serious body burns in a fiery crash and after a lengthy period of hospital treatment returned to Towanda for recuperation and recovery. He then married the former Mary Beahan, a long-time resident of Towanda. Following the convalescent period, Paul returned to active duty at Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Florida. Naval doctors advised Paul that he probably would not be able to continue combat flying, but his determination prevailed and he resumed combat duty during the invasion of the Philippines. Following his World War II duty, Paul next served in the Korean War and the Vietnam hostilities. He flew the F4-U Consair during each of these assignments. Paul also served as a flight instructor on carriers between the above listed tours. Paul flew many missions in SBDs (Douglas Dive Bombers) and F4-U Corsairs (fighters). He was quoted in an interview Oct. 18, 2000 as saying “The SBD was my favorite; a real warrior bird.” Throughout his career Col. Kellogg was awarded many medals. Among these awards were two Distinguished Flying Crosses and six Air Medals. Following his retirement from the USMC Paul moved to Salina, Kan., to undertake a second outstanding career as an instructor and subsequently became the commandant of cadets at St. John’s Military School. Col. Kellogg was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary B. Kellogg and his older brother, Harry H. Kellogg. Surviving are his sons, Paul H. Kellogg Jr., Peter J. Kellogg and Phillip A. KUONEN Dr. Charles Arthur
Retired Pathologist - Age 84 of Elmira, NY died peacefully on Thursday
December 3, 2009 in Elmira, NY. He was born in New York City the son of
the late Charles E. and Margaret Hahn Kuonen. His wife Sally predeceased
Charles on April 7, 1985. He is survived by his sons Charles J. Kuonen
of Syracuse, NY, David W. Kuonen of Odessa, TX, and Paul A. Kuonen of Elmira,
NY; daughter, Sally K ( Paul) Hensen of Corning, NY; seven grandchildren;
also loving companion, Helen Scollon. Dr. Kuonen retired after 35 years
of service from Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, were he was employed
as a Pathologist, and Director of Laboratories. He graduated with the Class
of 1953 of New York University Medical College, NYC. During World War II
he served with the United States Army in Northern France and Rhineland,
and is a Purple Heart recipient. Prior to his service in the Army Dr. Kuonen
worked on the Manhattan Project. It was Dr. Kuonen's request that there

ARTHUR M. LAMB – A memorial service was in Babson Park, Fla., for Arthur M. Lamb, 80 of Babson Park, a former Williamsport resident who died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998 in Lake Wales, N.Y. Hospital. He had owned and operated Lamb’s Pharmacy in Corning, N.Y. He graduated from Northside High School, Corning and the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy. During World War II, he was a pharmacist first mate in the Coast Guard. Born Sept. 27, 1917 in Corning, he was a son of Oliver E. and May Belle Kiff Lamb. Surviving, besides his wife Jane are a son, Ronald of Lockport, N.Y.; two daughters, Carole L. Schultz of Williamsport and Shari Gaskel in New Zealand; a sister, Olivia Stryker of Bethlehem; three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
BENJAMIN THOMAS LINDLEY, SR. age 86 of Newport News, VA, formerly of Trumbull, CT, a retired logistics engineer for Sikorsky6 Aircraft died on Saturday, August 27, 2005. Born in Canton on August 17, 1919 he was a son of the late Robert and Marion Lindley. A U.S. Navy veteran with a 20 year career, he served in World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include a son, Benjamin T. GEORGE W. LONG, 82 of Darien Center, N.Y. and formerly from Muncy died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia, N.Y. He was born in Kingston Township on Dec. 24, 1923 a son of the late Samuel and Edna Watts Long. Mr. Long was retired from the former Mushroom Transportation Co. as a diesel mechanic. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II from 1943 to 1946 and was a recipient of a European Theatre Service Medal and Victory Medal. Surviving are his wife of more than 57 years, Hattie Chamberlain Long, whom he married on Aug. 21, 1948; a son, Samuel and wife, Patricia Long of Darien center; a brother, Samuel D. and wife, Pam Long of Poland, N.Y.; a sister, Lila Winder of Altoona; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. LAMAR MERWIN MCILWAIN died on July 13, 2005 at St. Agnes Hospital, Fresno, CA. Born in Leolyn on October 24, 1925 he grew up on a dairy farm. He attended the McIlwain family school and then graduated from Canton High School in 1942. Mr. McIlwain joined the U.S. Army Air Force in November 1942. He went to preflight school in Montgomery, AL, flight training school in Moultrie, GA and received his wings in Arcadia, FL. He received an honorable discharge at the end of World War II. He went to work at Hunter Point Naval Shipyard until September 1962 when he and his family moved to Lemoore, CA. He worked at Lemoore NAS until his retirement in October 1979. He retired as the Director of Transportation. Mr. McIlwain enjoyed his retirement. He and Thelma did a lot of traveling in their RV. He loved to fish, to play golf, play games and spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1962 and touched the lives of all who met him. He not only talked the talk, he walked the walk. He had a very gentle soul and he will be missed by all who knew him, but especially his wife of 54 years, whom he married on October 8, 1950; his children and grandchildren. MCNAMARA John R. “Jack” McNamara, 84, of 60 Cherry Rd., Ithaca,
N.Y., died
Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at the Hospicare Residence.
Born Oct. 14, 1925, in Sayre, Pa., he was a son of the late Richard B.
and Catherine Imeldia (DOWNES) McNamara. After graduation from Waverly
High School in 1944, John proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
In 1949 he was married to Edna Mae (HAIGHT) McNamara, who survives him.
John retired as a project manager from IBM Owego with over 35 years of
service. Jack was active in the Waverly American Legion Post 492
from World War II until the present. He served as Department of New
York State Commander for the term of 1961-1962. He has served on
both National and State American Legion Committees over the years and was
currently serving on the Finance Committee of the Department of New York.
Jack was the President of the Class of ‘44 and continued to plan their
yearly class get togethers. Jack took great pleasure in his golf outings
and was a member at Newman Golf Course . He was an avid Notre Dame fan.
In addition to his beloved wife of 61 years; John is survived by his daughters,
Jacquelyn (Stephen) Ripley of Rockledge, Fla. and Ann (Nick Barra) McNamara
of Lansing ; grandchildren, P. Terry (Sandra) Farish III, Jennifer (Tim)
Rogers, Stephen M. Ripley, and Marianne Ripley; great grandchildren, Ashley
and Haley Farish, Connor Radley and Elise Rogers. John also leaves
behind a brother, William (Lois) McNamara of Trumansburg as well as many
nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents
and brothers, Richard (Mary) McNamara and Joseph McNamara. Those

MORELAND - In loving memory of James Lee Moreland. July 5, 1927 – Nov. 25, 2009. Resident of Anderson, Calif. Jim was at peace and surrounded by his family when he died on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Northern California Rehabilitation Hospital in Redding at the age of 82. He was a well-loved former resident of Castro Valley for 16 years before moving to Anderson in 1975. He was born in 1927 to James and Mae Sudduth in Hatfield, Arkansas. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn, of 63 years, one son, Jerry and his wife, Carol, two daughters, Karen Egelston and her husband, Greg Egelston, and Melinda Moreland. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, Janeen Spring, Sara Egelston, Keith Egelston, James Moreland, Joseph Moreland, Anthony Moreland, Julia Moreland, Jaron Wagner, Dawn Wagner and Ryan Wagner. He was preceded in death by his oldest grandson, Gregory Egelston. He also leaves nine great grandchildren. Jim was serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, when he met the love of his life, Evelyn, and married her on July 18, 1947. He loved the home they built together in Castro Valley, later moving to "the farm" in Anderson in 1975. He had a big heart and generous spirit. Family and friends were important to him and he endeared himself to everyone he met…always warming hearts with his bright smile, wrinkled nose and sparkling brown eyes. We are eternally grateful for the time we had with this special person, and will miss his physical presence and guidance. His inspiration and beautiful spirit will always live in our hearts. Jim is a past Master of San Leandro Masonic Lodge, formerly known as Eden Lodge 113, earning his 32nd degree in Scottish Rite. He also served as Secretary/Treasurer for California Kamloops since 1985. He was a well-respected automotive mechanic and owned Moreland Motors in San Leandro for several years. He also enjoyed car racing and owned his own hardtop race car in 1957. His life passion was the outdoors; he loved hunting and fishing with his family and friends. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 at McDonald's Mortuary in Redding on Friday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m., followed by a military service at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo. NORMAN L. MORRIS, 82, Williamsport, died July 23, 2003 at the Williamsport Hospital. Born November 11, 1920 in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Norman C. and Emma R. Miller Morris. He retired as a clerk at the Williamsport Post Office in 1983 and was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII where he was trained as a single engine pilot. Mr. Morris was a50 year member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, was a member and elder at the First Church of Christ Disciples; was a member of Lodge 106 F&AM, the Scottish Rite, the Williamsport Consistory Choir and the White Deer retiree’s golf league. He was a former committee member of Boy Scout Troop 3 at St. Paul’s. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, the former June Mitstifer; sons, James A., Laceyville and the Rev. Jay A. Morris, Canton, pastor of the East Canton United Methodist Church; a step-daughter, Susan J. Strouse, Troy, Ohio; brothers, Walter M., Key Colony Beach, FL and Byron H. RALPH G. PACKARD, 81 of 135 N. Railroad St., Hughesville died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at his residence. Born on July 9, 1923 in Jersey Shore, he was the son of Laura Wheeland Packard and Grant Packard. He retired from the former Sprout-Waldron as a mechanical draftsman and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Ralph was a WWII Army Veteran, a member of Lodge #299 F & AM in Muncy, Williamsport Consistory and Christ United Methodist Church in Hughesville. Ralph was an avid walker. He also enjoyed conversing with people, collecting coins and in his later years, putting together jigsaw puzzles. Ralph and his wife, the former Mabel E. Kepner celebrated their 54th Wedding anniversary on Nov. 22, 2004. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Annette M. (Steve) Bowes of Milton and Carol L. PALMER - Harry Walter Palmer, age 84, died while surrounded by his loving family on April 13, 2010. Born in Troy, PA he formerly resided at Briarcliff Heath Care Center in Oak Ridge, TN with Betty Jo, his wife of 54 years. He was preceded in death by three daughters and three grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his children, Paul Benthal and Dargie (& Jerry) Arwood of TN, Paul (& Connie) Ellison and Denise (& Jim) Schaefer of IL and Tammy (& Bobby) Singer of MI, as well as 23 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. Mr. Palmer served his country overseas during WWII in the US Army and retired in 1982 from the Delmonte Corporation in Rochelle, IL. JAMES T. PAYNE SR., 82, Williamsport died July 21, 2005 at his home. Born December 9, 1922 in South Williamsport, he was the son of the late James Thomas Sr. and Lucille Stiltner Payne. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had served with the 109th Field Artillery. Mr. Payne had Foreign service in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was qualified as an expert marksman with both carbine and sidearm. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with one Silver Service Star. He was retired from Union Local #520 plumbers and pipe fitters. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ruth J. Bower Payne; grandson, Jimmie Payne at home; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn L. and Jan Cooper; son, John W. Payne; sister, Kathryn Alberts; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. JACK D. PRUTSMAN, PH.D. died on June 4, 2005 at the age of 78 in Hollywood, FL. Born in Troy on November 22, 1926, he was the son of Jack and Ruth Prutsman. He left Troy High School six months early to begin college coursework in 1944 at Mansfield State College, where he placed on the basketball team Upon receiving his high school diploma in June of 1944, he entered the Army Special Training Services program for pilot candidates at Lehigh University. He later joined the Army Air Corps and served as a B-24 flight engineer in the XIX Tactical Air Command, serving first in the Caribbean Theater and later in Europe during the closing months of World War II. He was stationed in Bavaria briefly following the war’s end. His undergraduate degree in Education was earned at Mansfield State College in 1949. He was teaching high school in his home town of Troy when called back to active duty in 1950, this time in the Air Force. During a 25-year Air Force career, Dr. Prutsman’s more notable assignments included serving as an accredited education advisor to the nation of Venezuela, as superintendent of education and training for Scott Air Force Base (the global head quarters of Military Airlift Command) and as one of the pioneering researchers and software developers for the Air Force’s global airlift command and control computer software programs. Because of his fluency in the Spanish language, he was occasionally called upon by the State Department to act in behalf of U.S. interests in Venezuela. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as an excellent golfer until back injuries forced him to give up the game. His golf game was sufficiently good to win a golf tournament in Puerto Rico during the early 1960s. Surviving are his wife, Pat (Platt) Prutsman, Hollywood, FL; sons, Jeff and John, both of Longwood, FL; stepdaughter, Barbara of Chapel Hill, NC; stepsons, “Buddy” of Las Vegas and Billy of Hallandale, FL; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Thomas Prutsman (Nancy) Troy; sister, Sally Shaw, Venice, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Todd Damon. A memorial service was held in Hollywood, FL June 8th with full military honors accorded. From youth to adulthood he enjoyed hunting and fishing in northern Pennsylvania, Canada, Florida and Venezuela. READLER S. Franklin Readler, 88, of 78 Bennett Road, Bloomsburg, Pa., went home to be with his Lord on Monday, April 19, at the home of his daughter, Evelyn, in Ulster, Pa. He was born Nov. 6, 1921 in Bristol, Pa., the son of the late Sidney and Florence YEAGER Readler. Franklin graduated from Bristol High School in 1939. He worked on the family farm raising chickens and produce. He met his wife of 61 years, Julia Burchard on the "egg route" and they married July 2, 1943 in Germantown, Pa. She preceded him in death on Sept. 1, 2004. During World War II he was employed at Rohm and Haas defense plant in Bristol, Pa., as well as serving as an Air Raid Warden. The couple moved to the Millville area in 1946 where Franklin was engaged in dairy farming for much of his life. He later was employed by PPL as a lineman and material handler until his retirement in 1984. Franklin attended First Baptist Church, Danville, Pa., and was a member of the Millville Valley Grange for over 50 years. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, wood working, and family. He is survived by one son, John T. Readler and his wife Jackie of Camden, Ark.; and two daughters, Evelyn J. Stowell and her husband, Russell of Ulster, Pa. and Carolyn J. Fisher and her husband, Seth of Mountaintop, Pa. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Allie Olsen, Stephen Stowell and Amanda King and her husband, Eddie; and four great-grandchildren, Caleb and Rylie Olsen and Hunter and Addie King. RITTER Mr. Robert N. Ritter, age 87, of 397 Simkin Rd.,
Elmira, N.Y. (Chemung), died
at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre,
Pa. on Thursday evening, Feb. 4, 2010. He was born in Eaglebute,
S.D., on April 2,1922 the son of the late Nicholas and Nannie Lee ATWELL
Ritter. During World War II, Mr. Ritter served his country, with
the US Marines, serving in the South Pacific. Living in the Highland
Park, N.J. area for many years, he worked as welder on bridge construction.
In 1986 he and his wife the late Margaret FEASTER Ritter who died
in 2004, retired and moved into the Meshoppen area. For the last few years
he has lived with his daughter in the Chemung. While living in New
Jersey he was a member of the Palestine Masonic Lodge, in New Brunswick,
N.J. Surviving is his daughter with whom he lived, Paula M. Ritter
Frisbie, of Chemung, N.Y.; his loving grandchildren, Ron and his wife Heather
Childress, of Seabrook, Texas; and Cynthia and her husband Wayne Rogers,
of Meshoppen, Pa. and his great grandchildren, Kent, Sarah and Alayna Childress,
of Seabrook, Texas, and Jadyn Dawn Rogers, of Meshoppen, Pa. Besides his
wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Baby Edna
Ritter, Shirley Ritter, and Noreen and her husband Tony Osterberg.

THOMAS WILLIAM RYAN age 85 of Winter Park, Fla. died on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Florida Hospital East, Orlando, Fla. Tom was born in Dushore on June 16, 1919, a son of the late Joseph A. and Margaret Doyle Ryan Sr. He graduated from St. Basil’s High School, a member of the class of 1936. Tom served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater on Okinawa. He went to work in Detroit, Mich., and later worked in Philadelphia for the Packard Motor Co. until 1956 when he moved to Winter P)ar. In 1963 he started his own business, C&H Auto Service, whiech he operated until retiring in 1979. Tom was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Winter Park. He was an avid gardner and really loved his flowers. Surviving are his sister, Mary Catherine Ryan of Dushore and several nieces and nephews. HARRY M. SALLADA, 80 of 642 Seventh Ave. died Monday, May 22, 2006 at home. His wife the former Ann M. Dieffenbach died April 11, 1984. Harry was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Quiggleville and was a Navy veteran of WWII. Born June 17, 1925 in Jesrsey Shore, he was a son of George W. Sr. and Marjorie L. Bricker Sallada. He was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews who survive him. Harry was predeceased by a brother, George w. Sallada, Jr. in 1975. SEIGEL - Robert I. Seigel, 84, formerly of Towanda, Pa., and Easton, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, in Canton, Mass. He was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Sayre, Pa., he was a son of the late William H. and Lillian (CITLEN) Seigel. His wife, the former Sue HESSEL, died in 1990. He was a vice president of Hess's Department Stores, Allentown, Pa., for 15 years and retired in 1991. Prior to that, he was a manager for Almart Department Store, Bethlehem, Pa., and Laubach's Department Store, Easton. He served as a flight officer in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1951 and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and RADPRIN. In 2004 he received the Outstanding Seniors Award from the Northampton County Area Agency on Aging. Robert was a member of B'nai Abraham Synagogue, Easton, and was a vice president. He was a member of Coudersport Consistory; Union Lodge No. 108, F&AM, Towanda; B'nai Brith No. 30, Easton; B'nai Brith, W.H. Seigel Lodge No. 1352, Towanda; American Legion, Post No. 42, Towanda; Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity; and he was a 32nd Degree Mason. SHAW - Daryl Winston Shaw, [SRGP 20497] 80, of Silver Spring, MD, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1992, of cancer at his home. A native of Mansfield, he was a graduate of Mansfield State College. He received a masters degree from Duke University and doctorate from George Washington University. Before moving to Montgomery County in 1939, he worked in Pennsylvania schools in Bradford and Susquehanna counties. After moving, he served as principal at several schools. He served in the Navy during World War II. His marriage to Dora Patton Shaw ended in divorce. Two sons of that marriage preceded him in death, Richard Shaw and David Shaw. SHUTT Clifford A.
Age 88, of Pine Valley, died December 11, 2009. Cliff was born in Elmira
and retired from both Moore Business Forms and later Hardinge Inc. He was
a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII and member of the Elmira Eagles
Club and frequent contributor of the Arctic League. Cliff was predeceased
by his son, Clifford Shutt Jr.; daughter, Judith Shutt; sisters, Bernice
Hoffman Florence Horn; and brother, Lester Shutt. He is survived by his
son, George Shutt of Saratoga Springs, NY; sister, Doris Palmieri of Elmira

EMORY FRANCIS SMITH, 75 of Forksville died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre after heart surgery. He was born Feb. 23, 1925 in New Albany, a son of the late Ernest and Fannie Fawcett Smith. He served as a Navy seaman during the World War II. He has been a lifetime resident of Sullivan County and lived in Forksville for 44 years. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he worked for 39 years at the Sullivan County Rural Electric Co-op. Emery loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. Being with his family was his favorite pastime. Emery and his wife, Catherine Sullivan Smith would have celebrated their 41st anniversary in November. MARVIN STALKER, 90, formerly of Canton and Plant City, FL died at the Masonic Home in Elizabethtown, PA April 1, 2006. Born in Indian Castle, NY he was the son of the late Freeman and Anna Mae Spore Stalker. He was to Florence M. Miller Stalker for eight years in February. Mr. Stalker was a former member of Sunset Heights United Methodist Church in Plant City. He was a member of John S. Sell Memorial Chapel at the Masonic Village. During World War II he served as a storekeeper second-class in the United States Navy. Prior to retiring in 1969 he was employed for 26 years as an accountant by Streeter Associates in Elmira, NY. Following retirement he was employed as a purchasing agent by industrial Supply Corporation in Tampa, FL from 1969-89. Mr. Stalker was a member of Canton Lodge #415 F&AM and a member of the Williamsport Consistory. A 1934 graduate of Dundee High School, NY, he enjoyed square dancing. Survivors include his wife, Florence; son, Paul and Cathy Stalker, Tioga, Pa, Ricardo R., husband of Gwen Ramirez, Gathersburg, MD and Mark A. husband of Janice Ramirez, Bowie, MD; two daughters, Shelva J. SWAVELY - Leonard E. Swavely, age 83, of Mainesburg, PA, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 on Rt. 6 in Tioga County. Born on October 19, 1926 in Wernersville, PA, he was the son of William E. and Mary Esther (Heist) Swavely. Leonard was the loving husband of Mary Ellen (Hafer) Swavely with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage on March 18, 2010. Prior to his retirement in 1986, Leonard was employed as a machinist with Birdsboro Steel Co. in Reading, PA. He was a US Army veteran. Leonard enjoyed model trains and auto racing. In addition to his wife, Mary Ellen, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rick C. and Felicia Swavely of Narvon, PA, Jay Swavely of Mainesburg, PA; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Pauline Swavely of Wernersville, PA; a sister, Betty Jane Snyder of Birdsboro, PA. An elderly Mainesburg man is dead following a one car crash on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Leonard E. Swavely, 83, Mainesburg, died from his injuries after a 3:30 p.m. crash on Route 6 near Hickok Road in Sullivan Township. According to State Police at Mansfield, Swavely was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu east when the car drifted onto the south berm. Swavely reportedly oversteered to the left, the Chevy rotated counterclockwise, crossed both lanes, hit a dirt mound on the north berm and slid on its side. The car hit a large tree with its roof. Swavely was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the vehicle, Mary E. Swavely, 78, and Jay D. TOCCI Joseph
Age 84, of State College, died January 21, 2010 surrounded by friends
and family at the Forbes Hospice in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born July 16,
1925 in Ridgewood, Queens, NY; son of the late Joseph Nicholas and Julia
Martin Tocci. On August 16, 1952, he married the love of his life, Dolores
Asper, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. She preceded him in death
on May 3, 2007. Joe graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood,
Queens, NY in 1943. Upon graduation from High School he enlisted and served
in the U. S. Navy from July 15, 1943 to March 12, 1946, and during World
War II he served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Card in anti-submarine duty
in the North Atlantic. He earned the American, Asiatic, Victory and European
Theatre Medals. Upon his honorable discharge, he earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Health and Human Development at Penn State University in 1950
on the GI Bill. While studying at Penn State, he co-captained the Penn
State basketball team and is listed as one of the 50 greatest basketball
players in Penn State History. Also while on the Varsity baseball squad,
he was named all Eastern All-Star second baseman in the 1949 and 1950 seasons.
In 1958 he earned a Master of Education degree at Penn State University.
He went on to complete a thirty credit, sixth year certificate program
at Bridgeport University in Bridgeport Conn. Joe Tocci served as a Physical
Education Instructor and freshman basketball coach at Penn State from 1950
- 1951. In 1951 through 1953 coach Tocci taught Phys Ed, Social Studies
and coached at Blairsville High School. From 1953 to 1963 he taught Phys
Ed and served as a coach at Mansfield High School. Returning to State College
in 1963, he taught Phys Ed and served as an assistant basketball coach
at Penn State University until 1968. In 1968 he moved his family to Trumbull
Ct, where he coached basketball, golf, cross country and tennis, and taught
Phys Ed. He led several teams to complete in their respective state championships.
In 1986, he and his wife Dolores retired in State College. Coach Tocci's
continued relationships, some spanning over 50 years, with former teammates,
players and students is an example of the impact he made on people's lives.
Joe was a devout Catholic and belonged to Our Lady of Victory Church in
State College. As an enthusiastic supporter of Penn State athletics was
an active member of the Penn State Nittany Lion Club. Surviving are his
daughter M. J. Tocci and her husband Jonathan Rest of Pittsburgh, two sons,
Joseph Michael Tocci and his wife Susan of Belmont, MA and Timothy John
Tocci of Pittsburgh, four grandchildren, Sam, Zoe, Catherine and Joey,
and one sister Dorothy Tocci and life long family friend Margaret Wigiser
of Hobe Sound. FL. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on
January 29th, 2010 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly
Parkway, State College with Msgr Lockard as Celebrant. Family and friends
will be received one hour prior to the memorial mass. Graveside services
and burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA at 1 p.m. on
January 30th, where he will be buried alongside his beloved wife Dolores.

Pa. (N. Towanda Twp.), died
Monday evening, May 10, 2010, at the
Bradford County Manor, West Burlington Township, Pa. Born Feb. 26,
1924, in East Greenville, Pa., he was the son of the late Alex and Mary
Yasinchuk Uhorczuk.
ill was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater
as a U.S. Army Ranger. He was a recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Silver
Star Medal, while participating in the D-Day landing and later the Battle
of the Bulge. Following his service to his country, Bill was a graduate
of Villanova University. He was formerly employed at the White House Hotel
in Sellersville, Pa., for three years and the Keelersville Club Restaurant
in Perkasie, Pa., for four years. He was a member of SS Peter and
Paul Catholic Church in Towanda. Surviving are: three step-sons,
David Groff of Doylestown, Pa., Gerald Groff of Cooperstown, N.Y., and
Kenneth Groff of Newark, Del.; three sisters, Helen Uhorczuk of Euclid,
Ohio, Stella Uhorczuk of Washington, D.C., and Pauline Clegg of Toledo,
Ohio; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Virginia Webber Walker in 1985, and three brothers,
Stephen Walker, John Walker and George Walker. Private funeral services
will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
Inurnment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Arrangements

UNDERWOOD - Mr. Carl J. Underwood, 86, of RR 2 Box 2912, Laceyville,
Pa. (Rock Hill), died
at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.
on Wednesday morning, April 7, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was born
in New Albany, Pa. on Aug. 11, 1923, the son of the late Carl S. and Ellamae
Grimes Underwood. While finishing up high school, Mr. Underwood was called
to duty, to serve his country, in the U.S. Army Engineers. During his service
time, he fought in both the European Theater and the Pacific Theater. Mr.
Underwood fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and after the bombing of Japan,
he was sent to the Philippines, where he ended his military career. For
many years, Mr. Underwood was employed by the Triple V Construction Co.
of Dushore where he was employed as a carpenter on their bridge construction.
He loved carpentry and building so much, that is what he loved to do in
his spare time, and he continued his building trade even after his retirement.
He attended the Braintrim Baptist Church, and served his township on the
Wyalusing Valley School Board. He is survived by his wife of 59 years,
the former Anna T. Trowbridge Underwood, who he married July 1, 1950; his
sons, Charles J. (Elia) Underwood of Rosharon, Texas, and Robert C. Underwood
of Laceyville, Pa.; his daughters, Connie B. (William) Smith, of Nicholson,
Pa., Carla J. Underwood of Mehoopany, Pa., and Kay L. (Franco) Mendoza
of Pearland, Texas; also his eight grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) Underwood
of Pearland, Texas, Jamie Underwood of Dallas, Texas, AWR3 Christopher
Underwood of Jacksonville, Fla., Theodore (Jennifer) Smith of Pipersville,
Pa., Rebekah (Edward) Burke of Dimock, Pa., Jeremiah Smith of Nicholson,
Pa., and Michelle Mendoza and Maegan Mendoza, both of Pearland, Texas;
four great-grandchildren, Rylee Underwood of Pearland, Texas, Mason Smith

a sister-in-law, Beatrice Underwood; and two brothers-in-laws, Elmer Cook

VAN DUSER Gerald Raymond
Of Edmeston, NY, died with family by his side Wednesday morning, December
16, at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. Gerry was born July 30,
1926 in Arnot Ogden Hospital, Elmira, NY, the son of the late Ralph L.
and Lucy C. Van Duser of Horseheads, NY. He was the second of five children:
older brother, the late Ralph Van Duser Jr. of Fairlawn, Ohio; younger
sister, the late Joyce Roberts of Munsey, NY; younger sister, the late
Jo-Nan Van Duser of Newark, NY; and Jan A. Van Duser of Princeton, NJ.
Gerry was a graduate of both Paul Smith College and the Rochester Institute
of Technology. Prior to college, he volunteered to join the U.S. Navy in
August, 1943, in which he served as a Navy corpsman assigned to the APA
troop carrier, U.S.S. Frederick Funston. He was awarded seven ribbons and
five medals in the Pacific Theater of WWII, for the battles of Leyte Gulf,
Guam, Tinian, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa, and received an honorable discharge
in March, 1946. On August 23, 1947, Gerry married Shirley E. Shipton of
Rochester, NY, and together they celebrated 63 years of happy, loving marriage,
and had two sons, Guy, and Douglas (deceased), and two daughters, Claudia,
and Victoria. He began his career as a food facilities planner with the
Hample Equipment Co. in Elmira. In 1962 he became Vice-President of Skychef
Foods division of American Airlines, and in 1972, he joined A.R.A. Services
(now Aramark Corporation) in Philadelphia, PA as their Vice-President of
Design and Planning, where he created facilities for stadiums, schools,
and colleges in the U.S., Europe, and Japan, and the Montreal Olympics
in Canada. He retired in 1993, continuing another five years as consultant
to the company, and finally moved back to Edmeston to live with his wife,
Shirley, and daughter, Claudia. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son,
Guy Van Duser of Boston, MA; daughter, Claudia Keene of Edmeston; and daughter,
Vicky McGrath of Maple Shade, NJ; and by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Dakin Funeral Home,
17 North Main St., New Berlin, NY 13411. Memorial Service will be private
and is deferred until after the New Year.

WEAVER - Ralph V. Weaver, 89, of Stowell Road, Wellsboro, died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Marie Hadden Weaver whom he married Aug. 6, 1983. Ralph was born April 23, 1920, in Rocka Valley/Quakertown, the son of the late Ralph and Bessie Seifert Weaver. He had been president and part owner of Stadler Distributing in Plumsteadville. Ralph was a 50-year member of the VFW, 50- year member of the Moose, member of the NRA, Amateur Trap Shooting Association, PA Grand Canyon Snowmobile Club, past president and currently serving on the board of directors, and devoted craftsman with woodworking. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sportsman, shot trap competitively for over 30 years, and was an avid snowmobiler. Ralph was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Marie; sons, Robert (Sandy) Weaver of Harleysville, David (Kim) Weaver of Quakertown, Randall (Deborah) Weaver of Rivertown, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and sister, Lorraine Heckler of Quakertown. DONALD E. WILLIAMSON, 82 of 1445 Sycamore Road died peacefully Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Sycamore Manor. His wife, the former Mary Jane Deljanovan died July 18, 1998. Don had been a self-employed truck driver. He and his wife had lived in Lake Havasu City, Arizona for 18 years. He moved back to this area upon the death of his wife. An Army veteran of WWII, he was a member of Leroy O. Buck Post #7863, V.F.W. and the Jersey Shore Elks Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. Born July 28, 1923 in Williamsport, he was a son of Walter & Maude Phillips Williamson. Surviving are his sons, Gary L. of city and Darrel E. of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Daun E. YOUMANS - Lynden E. Youmans, 52, of Echo Road, Vestal, NY was
pronounced dead on arrival at Ideal Hospital, Endicott, NY at 4:00 p.m.
after he suffered a heart attack on Friday, November 30, 1962. He was born
June 22, 1910 in Wellsboro, the son of Walter and Myrtle Neal Youmans.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marie O'Connor of Johnson City,
NY; a son, Cpl. Gerald Neal Youmans, US Marine Corp, stationed at Camp
LeJeune, NC; at home are a daughter, Lynette Marie 15 years old and a son
Craig Allen 6 years old. Two sister, Mrs. Albert [Frances] Shaff and Mrs.
Rupert [Stella] Clark both of Vestal; a brother, Lloyd W. Youmans also
of Vestal. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist church at Vestal. He was employed
by the Endicott Municipal Light Department and was a veteran of World War
II. Funeral and interment services were held on Monday, December 3, 1962
at 2 p.m. at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott,
NY. The Rev. Donald J. George, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of
Vestal officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Union. The family
received friends at the Memorial Home on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon
