In the 1810 census enumeration of Tioga Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, one of only two townships in existence at that date, there appear to be only a few families that were enumearated next to each other that are known to have been living in what became Jackson Township. They were the families of James Seeley and Ann Westlake, Josiah Hammond and Mary Nobles, Garret Miller and Mary Smith and their son Samuel Miller and Mary Gardner. Ithamar Churchill and Sarah Blinn may have been living in Jackson but removed to what became Rutland Township.

DAGGETT

Reuben Daggett b. 11 Nov 1755 Attleboro, Bristol County, Massachusetts m. 11 Dec 1777 (Westmoreland County, New Hampshire marriage record) Esther Cobb. Reuben served in the American Revolution. After the war resided Westmoreland, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. Enumerated in Westmoreland in 1790 with one male of age sixteen and over (b. before 1774), two males under sixteen (b. 1775-90) and six females. They are related to have removed to Paris, Oneida County, New York in 1797 but are not found in the 1800 census enumeration. He is perhaps the Reuben Daggett enumerated in Cheshire in 1800 and the children match the known family except for the three daughters of age ten and under age sixteen, which the enumerator perhaps did not include. Esther d. 2 Dec 1798 age 48. Reuben is related to have m. 9 Dec 1800 at Utica, New York, Keziah Darby b. c. 1753. The Daggett family removed in 1805 (pension application) or 1807 to the Seeley Creek Valley (sometimes called Daggett Creek) in Jackson Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania near the county line of Bradford County. Reuben does not appear on the 1810 census. Sons, Reuben and Seth were enumerated in Oneida County, New York in 1810. If Reuben had removed to Pennsylvania he perhaps was missed in the census enumeration since their residence was on the county line of Lycoming (that portion that became Bradford) and Tioga Counties. Reuben appears on the first assessment of Tioga Township (Jackson not yet created) in 1812 with 131 acres, 2 oxen, 2 cows. Reuben appears on a special assessment of Tioga and Delmar Townships, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, dated 7 Oct 1814 when it was submitted to the commissioners of Tioga County. This was a special tax enumeration of the two townships that existed in the entire County at that date. Reuben Daggett, Rufus Daggett, Reuben Daggett, Jr., and Seth Dagget are listed. Reuben and his sons erected a sawmill on Seeley Creek. Enumerated in Jackson Township, Tioga County in 1820 with one male of age forty five and over (b. before 1775) and one female of age forty five and over (b. before 1775). Keziah d. 15 Mar 1827 age 73 Jackson Township, no marker. Reuben m. 31 May 1827 Abigail Woodard. An Oliver Woodard first appears on the 1826 assessment list of neighboring Wells Township in Bradford County and on the 1828 assessment list he transfered property to Jacob Stelle. Reuben enumerated in Wells Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania in 1830 with one male of age sixty and under age seventy (b. 1761-70) and one female of age sixty and under age seventy (b. 1761-70). Reuben applied for a pension 4 Sept 1832 (S29107) as a resident of Southport, Tioga County (Chemung County not yet formed), New York, aged 77 on the 11 Nov next. He was never a resident of Southport and other Revolutionary pension applicants near the state line and residing in Pennsylvania also stated they were New York residents. He stated he enlisted in June 1775 for the term of six months in the Massachusetts troops but before that term was up enlisted again for one year in the same regiment. He was mainly involved in the building of fortifications in the City of Boston. He stated he was born in Attleboro, County of Bristol and state of Massachusetts on the eleventh day of November 1755, that he entered the service at the place of his nativity and that since the war has resided in Westmoreland, County of Chesire, state of New Hampshire till he moved to the waters of Seely Creek in the town of Southport where he has lived for the space of twenty seven years. He signed as Reuben Dagget. Reuben was subscribed on the rolls of New York at the rate of $60 per annum to commence 4 Mar 1831. Reuben d. 8 Feb 1835 79y (ts) buried Daggett Family Cemetery on land where the family settled on a knoll west of Seeley Creek (also called Daggett Creek) near the Tioga and Bradford County line.

This is unlikely, since the Daggett family never lived in Vermont and there would have been no opportunity for Rhoda to be there to meet and marry someone.

Second Generation:
2.  Reuben Daggett, Jr., b. 19 Feb 1781 m. 3 Mar 1800 in Westmoreland County, New Hampshire, Jane Briggs, known as Jennie. Reuben is presumed to be the R. Daggett enumerated in Oneida County, New York in 1810 with two males under age ten (b. 1801-1810), one male of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1766-84), two females under age ten (b. 1801-10), one female of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1785-94), and one female of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1766-84). They evidently removed to Jackson Township as he appears on the 1816 assessment list as Reuben, Jr. The first grist mill in Jackson Township appears on the 1817 assessment list and was assessed to Reuben Daggett, Jr. Reuben last appears on the 1819 assessment list (compiled fall of 1818). Enumerated in China, Genessee County, New York in 1820 with one male under age ten (b. 1811-20), one male of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1805-10), one male of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1795-1804), one male of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1776-94), one female under age ten (b. 1811-20), two females of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1805-10), and one female of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1776-94), three persons engaged in agriculture. They located shortly after and perhaps about 1821 or 1822 in Freedom, Cattaraugus County where neighbor Eliphas Lafferty and Mary Gallea of Jackson Township also settled in 1821. Enumerated in Freedom, Cattaraugus County, New York in 1830 with two males of age fifteen and under age twenty (b. 1811-15), one male of age forty and under age fifty (b. 1781-90), one female of age fifteen and under age twenty (b. 1811-15), and one female of age fifty and under age sixty (b. 1771-80). Jane was enumerated in the household of Zebediah and Betsey Briggs in Springwater, Livingston County, New York in 1850 and Reuben was enumerated in the household of Charles S. Daggett in China, Wyoming County, New York in 1850, farmer. Reuben d. 31 Mar 1852. Jennie d. 20 Aug 1869 Springwater, Livingston County, New York.

Loring Lincoln Daggett b. 8 Apr 1802 Paris, New York d. 25 Mar 1887 Eureka, Michigan.
Reuben H. Daggett  b. 1805-10.
daughter b. 1805-10.

Laura Daggett m. William VanNocker.

6.  Saloma Daggett b. 3 July 1790 m. c. 1809 near what became Elmira, New York, William Keyes b. c. 1790 son of Peabody Keyes and Persis Brooks who settled in neighboring Wells Township, Bradford County perhaps in 1809. He is perhaps the William Kies found on the first assessment of Tioga County, Pennsylvania in 1812 with 6 acres and 1 cow. William d. in 1813 and his marker inscribed "W. Keys 1813" is in the Mosherville Cemetery. The early histories record that Peabody was the first death of an adult, but it was his son, William. We are uninformed if William d. early in 1813 or late in 1813, only that he is related to have slipped and fell on the ice, breaking his neck, which resulted in his death. Saloma m. 1814 Alexander Harris b. 9 June 1783 Manchester, Bennington County, Vermont son of Alexander Harris and wife Diadama. Alexander was perhaps the male of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1775-84) enumerated in the household of his mother Didamia in Manchester in 1800. Enumerated in Tioga Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania in 1810, one of only two townships created at that time, with one male of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1766-84) and a female of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1785-94). The portion of the 1810 census with females under age ten and of age ten and under age sixteen is missing on the original, which may contain a daughter or daughters of Alexander. Alexander appears on the first assessment of Tioga Township, one of only two townships in existence at that date, with 1 cow. Alexander became a widower with at least three young children. His wife presumably died in what is now Rutland Township. There was a special assessment of Tioga and Delmar Townships, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, dated 7 Oct 1814 when it was submitted to the commissioners of Tioga County. This was a special tax enumeration of the two townships that existed in the entire County at that date. Alexander does not appear, but there is an Ellis Harris, age 31 (Alexander would have been age 31), farmer, who is presumed to be Alexander. Ellis perhaps was written by mistake for Alex, which could sound nearly the same to an assessor. Alexander appears on the first assessment of Jackson Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania in 1816. They resided in that portion that became Rutland Township, which had not yet been created. Alexander last appears on the 1819 assessment list (compiled fall of 1818). They returned to Vermont and were enumerated in Ferrisburg, Addison County, Vermont in 1820 with three males under age ten (b. 1811-20), one male of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1805-10), one male of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1776-94), two females under age ten (b. 1811-20), two females of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1805-10), and one female of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1776-94). They returned to Rutland Township. Enumerated in Rutland in 1840 with one male of age ten and under age fifteen (b. 1826-30), one male of age fifty and under age sixty (b. 1781-90), one female of age ten and under age fifteen (b. 1826-30), one female of age fifteen and under age twenty (b. 1821-25), two females of age twenty and under age thirty (b. 1811-20), and one female of age fifty and under age sixty (b. 1781-90). Enumerated in Rutland in 1850, farmer. They resided on warrant parcel 1874. Alexander d. 28 July 1855 73y 1m 19d (ts). Administration of estate dated 5 Feb 1856, William B. Keyes, executor; wife, Selome; daughters, Julia, Ursula, Hannah, Polly, Opela, Didema, Selome; sons, Alexander and Abel M. Harris. Daggett enumerated in Oneida County, New York in 1810 with one male of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1785-94) and one female of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1785-94). Seth appears on the first assessment of Tioga Township (Jackson not yet created) in 1812 with 150 acres, 1 horse, and 1 cow. The first sawmill in Jackson Township appears on the assessment list of 1817, assessed to Seth Daggett. For many years Seth was involved in lumbering.
