Carpenter Burials are located on Rte. 249 about 1/2 mile from
Middlebury Center. There are three graves marked with only field stones.
Supposedly some graves were moved to Keeneyville (Middlebury Union Cemetery),
but we do not have documentation on that. Presently only one engraved tombstone
is present.
Carpenter, Sarah S. wife of Jedediah Carpenter, Jr. - died June 16, 1842 aged 46

This cemetery is entirely engulfed in a thicket of honeysuckle shrubs. While
they protect the cemetery, they also limit access. This cemetery must be entered
on one's hands and knees - a hard hat and safety glasses would also be helpful.
As of April 2006, the cemetery has been cleaned up and we will be going in
shortly for a better reading.

The following sent in by a Day family member.
I know that most of the stones were leaning up against a tree. I tried to get my
brother to clear out the Honeysuckle & other nuisance bushes.......but he never
gets around to it. It is fearful that if we remove too much, the creek may erode
the bank more. I had wanted to erect a plexiglas protected map stand there.
Our Great-Great-Great Grandfather John Day is buried there ......he died Apr 4, 1850 At age 64, 9 mos & 22 days. If my calculations are correct, his birthdate should be Jun 13, 1785. His wife Electa Wormer Day is buried in a Cemetery on another DAY farm in Youngsville, Warren Co., PA
