Description:
Georgian 1826-19-- Eagle Hotel Waterford, Pa.
Title located on the top of the base.
The Eagle Hotel was built in 1826 by Thomas King in Waterford, PA located within Erie County. The town is located near the historic Fort LeBoeuf where the conflict sparked between the French and the Indians in the French and Indian War. Waterford at the time of the hotel's construction and use was a hub for industrial travel and the salt industry boom. King was in charge of the Eagle Hotel until he was succeeded by Colonel P.E. Judson. Also known as the Stone Hotel, the Eagle Hotel served as a hotel until it was later put onto the United States National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Prior to being placed on the registry the hotel was documented by the Historic American Building Survey in 1933. The hotel was later converted into a museum and a restaurant. The first floor currently serves as a restaurant called Sugar n' Spice which is an Amish-style eatery. The second and third floor was converted into a history museum and office space by the Fort LeBoeuf Historical Society which bought the hotel after its closure.
