BAGLIONI - RAKICH, Louise
Age 79, formerly of Elmira, NY, and Naples, FL, died
Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at her son's home in Adamstown, MD. Louise was born
on November 14, 1930 in Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Marsilio and Clara
(Fox) Baglioni. Louise is survived by her son, Joseph (Pat) Rakich of
Adamstown, MD; grandchildren, Julie (Antonio) Gutierrez, Carl John Minotti,
Michael (Michele) Minotti, Samantha Rakich, Stephanie Rakich, Michaeline
Rakich, Tyler Rakich, Tina Cavin and Joelie Pitts; great-granddaughter,
Daniella Gutierrez; sisters, Alma and Albenia. Louise was predeceased by her
husband, Michael Rakich on March 21, 2005; and daughter, Michaeline Caracciolo
on December 31, 2009, sister, Kathrine Duris. Family and friends are invited to
call Tuesday, February 9, 2010, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the James D.

BARAN Pauline Kostiw
Age 92, of Elmira, NY, died on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Pauline was born on February 7, 1920 in Bolotnia, Ukraine, daughter of the late William and Anna (Chopek) Baran. Pauline is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, William; sons, Michael V. (Carolyn) and Robert W. (Sandra) Kostiw; loved and cherished grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Kostiw, Kristen (Kyle) Blackburn, Jessica (Jon) Reed, Robert J., Joseph M., Matthew S. and Katelyn M. Kostiw; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Alice Pauline, Charlotte, Lucas and Brady; niece, Anna Baran; very dear friend and cousin, Lorraine Davis. Pauline has been a longtime member of St. Nicholas Church and National Ukrainian Association. She was also a staple in the preparation of making piroghis and pigs in the blanket for church and parish functions. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Age 91 formerly of Elmira, NY, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in Rockville,
MD. Mary was born on July 5, 1917 in Elmira, daughter of the late Kuzma and
Anna (Kotyk) Bolak. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Hydzik and
daughter, Mildred Bunke. Survivors include her daughters, Anna (James) Herrick
of Elmira and Marie (Fred) Wiker of Gaithersburg, MD; five grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call Saturday,
September 20, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral

BONYAK Paul
Age 92, of Elmira Heights, NY, died on Friday, September 11, 2009, at the Arnot
Ogden Medical Center. He was born on March 16, 1917 in Lykens, PA to the late
John and Mary (Roman) Bonyak. Paul was predeceased by his wife, L. Madelene
Bonyak in 2004; sons, Thomas and William Bonyak and James Fish; daughters,
Shirley Weiskopf and Pauline Oliver; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors
include his sons, Robert Bonyak of FL, Joseph (Rita) Fish of Erin and Thomas
Fish of Ontario, NY; son-in-law, Donald Weiskopf of Elmira Heights; many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
Paul was a past Commander of the Catholic War Veterans and a longtime member of
the American Legion Post 154 in Elmira Heights. He was also a longtime
communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Paul loved to play bingo
and skat. In his free time, Paul enjoyed all of what nature had to offer
including camping, traveling, fishing and boat trips on the St. Lawrence River.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 17th, from 6 to 8
p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Panykhda will be held there at 7 p.m.

Jean M. Age 49, of Panama City, FL, formerly of Endwell, NY, went home to be
with the Lord Sunday, August 20, 2006, at home after an extended illness. She
is survived by her husband, William; sons, Daniel Bilynsky, a student at
Florida State University, and Brian Bilynsky, a student at Stetson University
in Florida; brother, Patrick Burke of Meshoppen, PA; sisters-in-law, Catherine
Horan of Waverly, and Mary Daugherty of Elmira; brother-in-law, Michael
Bilynsky of Elmira; along with several nieces, nephews, friends; and her
beloved dog, Candy. Jean was a graduate of SUNY Binghamton and was formerly
employed with Bard Parker in Hancock, NY as an accountant. Family and friends

Age 94 of Elmira, NY. She was born June 27, 1916 in Elmira, daughter of the
late Louis and Paraska Busten and died
Monday, September 20, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was predeceased by
her husband, George; and children, Paraska, Pauline, George Jr. and James. She

CAROSCIO Lena "Lee" Cherkis
Elmira: Age 88, died at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Lena was born May 3, 1922, a daughter of Thomas and Maryanna (Carrescia) Caroscio. She was predeceased by her husband John P. Cherkis on January 2, 2011. Lena is also predeceased by her son John T. Cherkis, daughters-in-law, Kim Rudy Cherkis and Terry Nist Cherkis Doud, brother William Caroscio, brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Mary (Lockern) Caroscio, brothers-in-law, Anthony Maio and Henry Novick. She is survived by her children, Ann Cherkis, Mary Cherkis Donahue, and Joseph Cherkis (Jennifer Corrao), all of Elmira; grandchildren, Christopher Cherkis, Christin (Eric) Bresett; great grandson Caleb Bresett; sisters, Mary Maio, Dorene Novick; sister-in-law Edith Caroscio; along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Lee was a homemaker and a retiree of the Elmira City School District where she worked as a library aide. She enjoyed being outside, working in her garden and filling the bird feeder, then watching the birds come and feed. Lee took great joy in her time spent with her grandchildren and great grandson. CARUSO Msgt. Rocco Paul, Ret. Age 82, of 3046 Arnold Ave., Horseheads, NY. He was born October 27, 1924 in Geneva, NY, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Romeo) Caruso and died Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Tioga Nursing Facility. Msgt. Caruso retired from the U.S. Air Force in December 1964 after 21 years of duty to the armed forces. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Matkosky; brothers, Charles, Joseph II and Angelo; sisters, Mary Fayant and Flora Cantando. Sgt. Caruso etered the Navy in December 1942 and served in that branch during WWII. In 1947 while in the Navy reserve, Caruso enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force until his retirement from Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY in 1964. During WWII, Caruso saw action in the North Atlantic with the 38th Destroyer Div. credited with sinking a German sub, transferring to the SW Pacific Theater, earning 15 battle stars, and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. During his career he was also in the occupation forces in Japan and took part in the Korean Conflict earning the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1947 and served in Ft. Slocum, NY (1st AF), Spokane AFB, Washington (98th Bomb Group), Giger FL, Washington, Okinawa (Hg Squadron), McCord AFB, Washington (325th Installation Squadron), Hamilton AFB San Rafel, CA, Korea (Operations Squadron), Chanute AFB, IL (HTC), Toul Rossier AB, France and Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY, earning 15 battle stars, 2 presidential unit citations and numerous service ribbons and citations. Mr. Caruso was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, was a member of the American Legion, Post 154, the Air Force Society and a Plank Member, Sampson WWII Navy Veterans, Inc. He is survived by his sister, Anne Hockstaff of Elmira; sister-in-law, Vera Caruso of Rancho Cardova, CA; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Age 93 of Elmira, NY. He was born February 28, 1919 in Elmira, son of the late Paul and Pauline (Ryndziniak) Casil and died Monday, December 17, 2012. He was predeceased by his brother John and sisters Kathryn Bowers and Maryann Comfort. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Harriet; daughter and son-in-law Christine and Paul Soos of Niagara Falls, NY; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Ana Casil of Deerfield Beach, FL; granddaughter Stephanie Soos of Niagara Falls, NY, sister-in-law Virginia Casil of Horseheads along with several nieces and nephews. Sam was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church. He retired from Conrail; was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post 154. Check, Frank Check, Kathryn Sharp and Ann Ruszak. Tillie is survived by her
brother William Check; sister-in-law Ann Check along with several nieces and
nephews who she loved dearly. Tillie lived in the "Heights" her
entire life. She was employed with Remington Rand for 27 years and retired from
LRC Electronics and was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. At

Age 85 of Elmira, NY. He was born August 25, 1926 in Elmira, son of the late Thomas and Eva (Czyszyezak) Check and died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Check on April 18, 2002 and is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Scott Apthorp of Elmira and Susan and Tony DeOrio of Horseheads; daughter-in-law Lois Downs of Horseheads; grandsons Matthew Apthorp, Philip (Shadee) DeOrio and Jamey DeOrio; granddaughter Sarah Check; great granddaughter Lily Riane Apthorp along with several nieces and nephews. Mr. Check was retired from American LaFrance; was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union 112, Elmira and was a veteran of WWII and a member of the C.W.V. CHERESNOWSKY Peter Age 93, of Elmira Heights, NY, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at St. Francis Nursing Home in Williamsville, NY. Peter was born in Yonkers, NY, son of the late Wesley and Ksenia (Kachmar) Cheresnowsky. Peter retired as a Stationary Engineer for the Elmira Correctional Facility Power Station after many years of service. He has been a longtime communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Peter was predeceased by his wife, Helen, in 1997; sisters, Catherine Kohan and Mary Templer; brothers, John and Stephen Cheresnowsky. Survivors include son, Peter D. Cheresnowsky of Amherst, along with his fiancée, Kathleen A. Savaree of Buffalo, NY; sisters, Ann Stys of Sayre, PA, and Sister Helen SSMI of Sloatsburg, NY; brothers, Anthony (Elizabeth) Cheresnowsky of Sayre, PA, and Wesley (Catherine) Cheresnowski of Broken Arrow, OK; grandson, Christopher Chersenowsky of Amherst, NY; several nieces and nephews. CHERKIS John P.
Elmira: Age 89, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. John was born March 21, 1921, the son of John and Anastasia Cherkis. He is predeceased by his son John T. Cherkis and sisters, Sophie Page and Stella Conklin. John is survived by his wife of 55 years Lena Caroscio Cherkis; children, Ann Cherkis, Mary Cherkis Donahue, and Joseph Cherkis (Jennifer Corrao), all of Elmira; grandchildren, Christopher Cherkis, Christin (Eric) Bresett; great grandson Caleb Bresett; sisters-in-law, Mary Maio, Dorene Novick and Edith Caroscio; several nieces and nephews. John was a WW II veteran having served with the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked at Remington Rand for over 30 years before going to work at the Elmira Correctional Facility from where he retired. Growing up John enjoyed playing basketball. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid fisherman. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Age 88, of Horseheads, NY, died on Monday, October 15, 2012 at home. He was born on June 12, 1924 in the Ukraine. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Chochon. Age 89, of Elmira, NY. She was born March 22, 1919 in Elmira, daughter of the
late Damian and Sophia (Sikorska) Churchman, and died Wednesday, November 26,
2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. She was predeceased by her
brothers, Stephen and Raymond; sisters, Sophia Cassetta and Irene Strang;
nephew, Richard Cassetta; niece, Mary Ann Shafer. Olga is survived by her
beloved nephews, nieces and their families, Tom (Linda) Cassetta, Dr. Brian
(Chris) Cassetta, Gregory (Veronica) Cassetta, Daniel Cassetta, Jean (Craig)

COICO - SENKO
Clara M. Resident of Chemung County Nursing Facility Age 79, former
resident of Villa Serene, died Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the Chemung
County Nursing Facility. Clara was born July 16, 1920 in Passaic, NJ,
daughter of the late Cosimo and Addalerato Coico. She was married
to the late John Senko who died October 18, 1984. Clara worked at
Remington Rand for 30 years and, after her retirement, she was one of the
original pyrogy ladies at the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. She is
survived by her sisters, Sue Travani of Elmira and Elvira Cerio of Horseheads
and their families; numerous nieces, nephews and their children. Clara
will be remembered as a special angel by the husband and family of her late
sister-in-law, Julia Senko Reppard, for whom Clara was caregiver and nurse
during Julia's final struggle with cancer in 1977. Julia's children, Cheryl
Spear, Donna Reppard and Cindy Braly and their children will remember
Clara's loving kindness forever. Family and friends are invited to call

Age 92, of Horseheads, NY, died on Friday, November 9, 2007. She was born on

Age 89, of 550 E. Church Street, Elmira, New York, died Friday, July 3, 2009,
at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. He was born on January 20, 1920
in the Ukraine. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna (Dychka), on April 26, 1995.
He is survived by his daughter, Stella Houseknecht of Coral Springs, Florida;
daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Rolando Navaro of Land O'Lakes, Florida;
sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Christine (Wilson) Duchy of High Point,
North Carolina, Peter and Marie (Graham) Duchy of Elmira Heights and Joseph and
Ruth Duchy of Horseheads; grandsons, Alan M. Houseknecht of San Diego,
California, Peter M. Duchy of Buffalo, New York, Jody Wilson and Kirk Wilson;
granddaughters, Christine Houseknecht of Coral Springs, Florida, Melissa Duchy
and Ashley Duchy of Horseheads, New York; great-grandson, Kerrick M. Duchy of
Elmira Heights. Mike was a retiree of U.S. Steel and a devout, longtime
communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. He will be most
remembered by his unwavering faith and his friendship and service to others.

Devoted wife, loving mother and caring grandmother. Age 90, of Elmira, passed
peacefully at her home with her family by her side, on Sunday, November 15, 2009.
Mary was born in Sannyky, Ukraine on May 14, 1919, the daughter of Wasyl and
Anna Zamrij Dyka. Mary and her husband John, along with 2 of their children,
immigrated to the United States in 1949. She was predeceased by her husband
John and daughters-in-law, Glenda and Diana. Mary is survived by her children,
Bohdan of Lakewood, CO, Orest (Barbara) of Horseheads, Lubomyr of Denver, CO,
Lesia (Louis) Fadale, of Elmira Heights, Anna of Elmira, and John G. of Elmira;
grandchildren, Debra, Zachary, Michael, and Gregory. Mary enjoyed working in
her lovely garden and with her flowers. She retired from Elmira Floral
Products. Mary was a devoted member of the Ukrainian Church. Father Vasile
Godenciuc will celebrate a Mass of Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Ukrainian
Church on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will

Age 84, of Horseheads, NY, died on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. John was born on April 17, 1927 in Elmira, son of the late Frank and Mary (Mysnik) Fecich. John served our country honorably in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from American Bridge in Elmira Heights after many years of service. John has been a longtime parishioner of St. Nicholas Church in Elmira Heights and a longtime member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #1178, and the American Legion Post #154. Age 93 of 420 East Franklin Street Horseheads, NY died on Saturday September
13, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Kolynich was born June
24, 1915 in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of the late Michael and Julia
Lukaczyk Furch. She married her husband, Frank T. Kolynich and he pre-deceased
her on March 21, 1979. Mrs. Kolynich was also pre-deceased by her brother John
Furch in 2006. Mary was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian
Church in Elmira Heights, NY. She loved her family and friends and also enjoyed
gardening, sewing, and making jewelry. Mrs. Kolynich is survived by her
daughter: Eileen Kolynich of Lansing, NY; son and daughter-in-law: James F.
& Rosemary Kolynich of Elmira, NY; sister-in-law: Anne Furch of Horseheads,

Nikola was born in Kolamea Province, Ukraine on June 25, 1917, son of Nikola and Sophie Hobczuk. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Anna Hucul Hobczuk in 1990. Nikola was also predeceased by son Nikolaj Hobczuk and daughter Mary Gallow. He is survived by son Michael Hobczuk, Elmira; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Deacon John and Deborah Hobczuk, Horseheads; daughter Stephanie Trifoso, Elmira; son-in-law Eugene Gallow, Elmira; daughter-in-law Bonnie Hobczuk, Pine City. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Nikola was a devout Ukrainian Catholic. of Norcross, Georgia, formerly of Hamilton Township, New Jersey, died on Saturday, February 25, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Paul Petelchuk, she was the loving and devoted mother to Patricia Anne and her husband George Lutz of Bergenfield, New Jersey, Paula Marie and her husband Don Booten of Nashville, Tennessee, and Pamela Christine and her husband Samuel Costa of Atlanta, Georgia. Anna is survived by her brothers-in-law Frank Peters and David Cheplick, sister-in-law Evelyn Meade, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mildred and Thomas Cheplick. She was predeceased by her parents Anastasia and Michael Holik, her sisters Mary Fatcheric and Mary Vanelli, and other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is survived by her 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Anna will truly be missed by her colleagues and friends, especially her close friend Ufahamu Kent of Snellville, Georgia. Anna was born in Syracuse, New York in 1920, and graduated from the Syracuse Public Schools. For over 20 years, she lived and traveled around the world with her husband and family while her husband was an officer in the United States Air Force. In Hamilton, New Jersey she was a devoted member of St. Vladimir's Orthodox Church, Trenton, New Jersey. Over the years, she was involved with several organizations within the church, but more importantly, she gave a helping hand to anyone in need. Age 89, of Grand Central Ave., Elmira Heights, died after an illness Sat., June
21, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Anne
(Zawko) Hoodak, Oct. 12, 2002. His surviving family includes his sons, Ronald
(Lucy Contando) Hoodak of Elmira, Roger Hoodak of Elmira Heights;
grandchildren, Alexander James Hoodak and Elizabeth Anne Hoodak, both at home;
special family friend, Janice "Ma" Shappee of Horseheads; several
extended family members, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. William was born
Feb. 14, 1919 in Elmira, NY, the son to the late Peter and Eva (Telech) Hoodak.
Mr. Hoodak was a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in
Elmira Heights and a retired electrician with the Elmira Local IBEW # 139. He
was also a veteran of the US Army Air Corps service during WWII. His service
duties of which he was very proud include being a flight engineer on a B29

JAMELSKI William A.
Of Elmira, NY died very unexpectedly as a result of an accident on Sunday
evening, March 15, 2009. Bill was born on February 16, 1935 in Elmira, NY, the
son of the late William and Mary Adamowsky Jamelski. He served his country honorably
with the US Army and later worked and retired with over 30 years at Thatcher
Glass in Horseheads as a mold maker. Bill is survived by his children, Julie
Chevalier (Steve Edgerly and daughters) of Horseheads, NY, Lori (Brent) Moyer
of Elmira Heights, NY and William Jamelski (Sue Bilger and daughters) of
Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Nicholas, Dustin, Billy, Bri, Kayla, and Whittany;
great-grandchildren, Zachary and Nolan; former wife and friend, Barbara
Jamelski; longtime companion, Florence Granger; special friend, David Quinn;
great-aunt, Maria Adamowsky; four legged companion, Teddy; and several cousins
and friends. Bill was a kind-hearted true friend to everyone. Bompa, as he was
known to all of his grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with all of the
grandchildren. He could usually be found at a ball field, standing along the
fence, near a dugout or along the sidelines cheering on his favorite player. He
very rarely missed a game. Bill also spent many winters in Zephyrhills, FL
tending to his orange trees, running around in his golf cart and spending time
with many friends and family at his second home. He truely enjoyed his time in
the south. Another love of Bill's was his Polka music. He had danced many years
in a polka dance group and made many friends along the way. His smile,
generosity, even to strangers, and his spirit for life will be sorely missed.

E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Thursday, March 19, 2009 from
4:30-7:30 p.m. Mr. Jamelski's Funeral Service will be held immediately

KOHAN - SHUTT, Sophie (Kohan)
Age 89, formerly of 319 E. 9th Street, Elmira Heights, died on Saturday, August
9, 2008. She was born on April 11, 1919 in Elmira, NY to the late Alex and
Matrona (Kuryla) Kohan. Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Willis Lester
Shutt Sr. in 1986. Survivors include her children, Willis (Sharon) Shutt Jr.
and Robert Shutt (Sandy); seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren;
sister, Anna Toby; special niece, Lois Hamilton; along with several other
nieces and nephews. Sophie retired from the Elmira Heights School District
after many years of service and was a member of the Ukrainian American Club.

Divine Liturgy on Wednesday, August 13th at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Ukrainian

Age 81, of Hector and formerly a longtime resident of Elmira Heights, died March 1, 2012 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Julius was born Orthodox Christian Palm Sunday on April 13, 1930 in Elmira, NY to John and Elizabeth (Haverlak) Kohena. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley (Hilton) Kohena; son and daughters, Kathleen Kohena of Horseheads, NY, John (Loueva) Kohena of Hector, NY, Kristin Kohena, also of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Jennifer Spicer of Horseheads, NY, Christopher (Greta) Spicer of Bloomingdale, NY; great-grandchildren, Sage, Bevan, and Tully; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Gerald Kohena. Jerry was a veteran of the US Army and a retired administrator with the Elmira Heights Central School District. After his retirement, he continued the work for the District as the Chairperson for the Committee on Special Education. He also worked as a Real-estate Broker for the Blauvelt Gallery of Homes in Horseheads. Among his many contributions, Jerry played an instrumental role in the development and design of UCP in Chemung County, now known as Able 2. He also continued his service as the Director of the Anne B. LeMark Children's Center. Of his many proud accomplishments was the establishment of the Julius D. Kohena Dental Clinic. He was also a member of Elmira Heights Rotary, a Paul Harris Fellow and played a vital role in the development of Camp Star, most recently held Watson Homestead. He was member of the Elmira Heights American Legion, Elmira Heights Masonic Lodge and Horseheads Elks Club. For his lifetime service to the Elmira Heights community, he was the recipient of the Elmira Heights Community Service award in 1985. KOWALSKI Edward J. Sr.
Age 92 of Horseheads, NY died on Thursday February 25, 2010 at Elcor Nursing
Home. Ed was born November 10, 1917 in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Steven
and Rose Malnoski Kowalski. He served his country with The US Army Air Corps
from October 26, 1942 to May 13, 1943. Ed married his wife, Margaret C.
Przymusik Kowalski, on May 29, 1943 and she pre-deceased him on September 8,
2006. He was also pre-deceased by his daughter Shirley Kowalski on August 28,
1953 and by his brothers Walt Kowalski, Chet Kowalski, and Stanley Kowalski. Ed
was a member of Bentley-Trumble American Legion Post # 442 in Horseheads and
served as Chaplain for Post #442 and as Chemung County Chaplain for several
years. Mr. Kowalski retired from Corning Inc. on December 31, 1986 after 46 ½
years of dedicated service. Ed is survived by his son and daughter-in-law:

was a retired senior engineer from Burroughs Co. He served in the U S Navy from

KRIEL Steve Age 82, of Rocking Chair Rd. and formerly a longtime resident of Locust St. in Elmira, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, surrounded by his family at Bethany Village. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ruth (Gruskiewicz) Kriel, with whom he just recently celebrated 48 years together with on August 10, 2005. Age 92, of Elmira Heights, NY, died on Sunday, March 18,
2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born on February 8, 1920 in the Ukraine
to the late John and Katrina (Murka) Luczkiw. Anna was predeceased by her
husband Wasyl Petryk. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Pappas of CT; son,
Michael Petryk of Elmira Heights; grandchildren, Alexandra (Dwain) McCullough
of CA and Katrina Pappas of VA. Anna was a longtime member of St. Nicholas
Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was a Sacred Heart member, sang in the choir,
made piroghis and pigs in a blanket and was very active with the church. Family
and friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 22nd from 6 to 8 p.m. at the
