Wed. Jan. 1, 1902

This was my second days work in Ithaca NY.  It was quite cold and windy.  We worked putting in Telephones as it was new year day eve quit work about 4pm.

Thurs. 2

Weather a little bit warmer but quite windy.  We strung wire this morning on Aurora St. put in telephones this afternoon.  I ordered a new pair of climbers today

Friday 3

Weather cold.  I helped put in a phone in morning and after dinner we all went to Forest Home and built a short line to get there we had to go over University hill upon which the natural senery is grand.

Sat. Jan. 4 1902

Weather cold just zero.  We drew  poles in morning, raised one and done some cutting this afternoon.  I began wearing my new climbers yesterday.

Sunday 5

Weather Warmer.  Louie and I went to look at lake came back and I have written to mother, Vera, Will Susie and Charley Reynolds.

Monday 6

Weather warmer.  We done some cutting over and stringing wire on State St. this morning Louie and I raised poles this afternoon .  I bought a fine mouthorgan tonight it cost me 1.25

Tues. Jan 7, 1902

Weather quite warm.  Ive run wire and put phone in Clinton House this morning This afternoon ive put in phone at Sage place.  I bought a pair of gloves and suit overalls with jumper.

Wednesday 8

Weather warm snowed some.  We put in three telephones and raised three poles.   Girney was here today.  also Eddie Clark.

Thursday 9

Weather warm Thawed all day.  We raised poles on second St. this morning and strung wire on Cayuga St. this afternoon. A good many people on Sts today.

Friday,Jan.10

Weather warm;  Joe strung wire on Cayuga and State St. this forenoon, dug holes on Madison St. this afternoon. Louie and I received our first  pay in this town tonight.

Saturday 11

Weather warm. We changed wire off junction pole on Albany St. in morn, afternoon finished digging holes and raised the poles on Madison St. I have a very bad cold.

Sunday 12

Weather getting colder , snowed last night and part of forenoon. My cold is a little better. Louie went to the show last night.

Mon. Jan. 13

Weather cold. We put in three phones. Louise and I bought a violin for $10 tonight each payed $5, it’s a dandy. My cold is not much better today. I am very hoarse.

Tuesday 14

Weather warm. My cold improving. We strung wire on Albany St. and put in a phone on state St. I rec’d a letter from Sister Nell and Vera today.

Wednesday 15

Weather warm. We strung wire on Albany St, and Madison St. I am quite hoarse yet but feel good. I rec’d a letter from Susie today. Louise got one from Wm Brown at Binghamton today.

Thursday 16

Weather warm. Snowed a little this forenoon. We shaved holes and dug holes this morning. Strung wire in afternoon. I did not smoke but once today and that was a cigar tonight . Louie and I wrote to Wm Brown tonight.

Friday 17

Weather cold. We raised holes and dug some holes on Plain St., this morning afternoon. Put in two phones. We got our weeks pay today.

Saturday 18

Weather warm. We put on crossarms and strung wire on Albany St. I bought a pocketbook tonight. My cold is getting better.

Sunday  Jan. 19

Weather cold and been getting colder. I wrote three letters , one to Vera, Nell and Susie. Did not go out of house but once today.

Monday 20

Weather very cold this morning but got warm so it thawed in sun at noon. We worked stringing wire all day most of time on Main St. did not do anything after 4:30.

Tuesday 21

Weather stormy snowed all day about like rain. I got a letter from mother and Harry and Granny. I have ans. mothers tonight. We were about wet through tonight when we came in. We put on arms and strung wire on State St. about all day.

Wednesday January 22

Rained all last night and forenoon today and has begun again tonight . We did not work this forenoon but got in our time afternoon. Stringing wire on State St.  I have felt very bad all day.

Thursday 23

Weather comfortable. We put on crossarms toward lake Cayuga from Fall Creek Mills. It’s a sight to see the water fall over the rocks by mill as it comes down the gorge.

Friday 24

Weather like spring. We guyed pole at inlet this morn then strung wire. Received weeks pay. Had a fire near exchange today. I received letter and paper from Nell. Expected to get through work here today but did not.

Saturday, Jan. 25

Weather like spring. We strung wire on Seave St all day. Louie and I visited Fred Brookins last night. He entertained us finely with stories,Grayhone(?)

Sunday 26

Weather a little cooler although we have window open in our room. Tom Brady called on us this afternoon.

Monday 27

It rained this morning but stopped about 10 A.M. and has got cold every minute since . Its good winter again tonight. We put in two phones this morning, put on crossarms and strung wire this afternoon.

Tuesday Jan 28

Weather very cold. We put in four phones. I received a letter from Susie and a few lines from Bill Wright. We are not to leave here this week now, so we were informed tonight.

Wednesday 29

Weather cold, it began to snow this afternoon. We unloaded a carload of poles this morning then worked putting in phones. Got in three today. This was McKinley Day but was not very much observed here.

Thursday 30

Weather cold. We strung wire all day. Just before noon a wire broke down in the hole I was to work on . It fell across trolley, it made fire fly in great shape. Lucky no one was hurt. It burned out about 20 fuses.

Friday January 31

Weather cold. We strung wire most of day then put in three new phones. The chimes at the University is certainly fine those bells play a nice tune.

Saturday 1

Weather warm like spring. I helped Holister change phones in gun shop in afternoon. Tom Brady and I put in phones at Kipps on East B. St., payed board tonight.

Sunday 2

Rain and Snow  . I wrote to Nell, Fanny , Harry and Morton

Monday Feb. 3

Wind blew like the dickens all day and quite cold. Awful lot of trouble on lines . We chased trouble and got in one phone and changed the one at Rock Chlick(?) It was pretty cold working today but we got in our time.

Tuesday 4

Very cold , a raw wind all day.  We strung wire all day, some on Albany , Second and Adams Sts. Is quite cold tonight. The St. cars run today but we have no electric lights  yet.

 
 

Wednesday 5

Quite cold but wind did not blow.  We strung wire on Albany St., Cayuga,and Prospect Sts.  Its an awful job to string wire here on State St. I am quite tired tonight.

Thursday Feb. 6

Weather very cold in morning but warm and pleasant in afternoon. We strung wire all day. I found a pocketbook on sidewalk this morning . It contained $.75.

February 7

Weather cold. We put in three phones today. I rec’d letter and paper from Nell. I found spring collar button today on Buffalo St. in middle of road. This is Junior week at the University. A man was badly hurt here today.

Saturday 8

Weather beastly cold and windy . We worked on East Hill in morning stringing wire this afternoon. We changed three phones and done some cutting over . I have a bad cold.

Sunday February 9

Weather cold and stormy. I have a very bad cold. My head is just about the size of a bushel basket. I wrote to Sister Nell and S.W.

Monday 10

Weather cold but thawed some at noon. We dug two holes and sat two poles on Madison St. then strung wire rest of day. Its about all I can do to work. My head feels so bad from the effects of my cold.

Tuesday 11

Very cold. We strung wire about all day but got in two phones . I rec’d letter from Harry, Vera and Fanny. Had a fire today, noon in Square, just below Hotel. Did not do but little damage.

Wednesday February 12

A little warmer it snowed a little. We strung wire & Louie and I put in our first phone alone. I sent Harry reg. letter containing $50. I sent a valentine to Susie today noon. My head aches like fury about 5 P.M. every day since Sunday.

Thursday 13

Quite cold snowed part of day. We strung wire and put in three phones. Fire company was called out about 4:30 p.m. Fire did not amount to much. Louie and I each rec’d a letter from Lillian.

Friday 14

Cold weather. We dug holes on Spring St. the ground was froze about 20 inches. I rec’d a letter from Susie today noon.

Saturday February 15

A little warmer today. We shaved and gained six poles drew him out and sat them on  Spring St. I rec’d a letter from Miss Brown today noon;. Louie and I called at Mr. Browns on Buffalo St. last night. We played on Violin and Piano for them.

Sunday 16

Weather warm. I wrote to Vera and Fran, Susie, Lillian & Lulu.This is mothers and Fanny Birthday.

Monday 17

Weather warm in morn, got real cold tonight. We shaved and gained poles all day.  I rec’d a Valentine from Lillian and I also rec’d cornet from Harry.

Tuesday February 18

Weather cold. Louie and I dug hole on corner of Spring & Buffalo St. Help put in phones afternoon. I rec’d letter from Harry, also from E. W. Besley. I bought book of duets today.

Wednesday 19

Weather exceedingly cold this morn but warmed up considerable . We strung wire all day from Albany to Madison St. I rec’d a ltter and paper from Nell. Bought a pair of mittons.(Mittens)

Thursday 20

Quite warm. We strung wire all day down Albany, Second, Adams and Cayuga Sts. Had two fires in town today , one on University Ave., burnt till roof fell in.

Friday, February 21

Warm weather. It snowed some. We dug two holes, poles raised, strung a little wire on North Cayuga St., and strung cable on State Tioga and Seneca Sts.

 
 

Saturday 22

Weather warm, pretty sloppy. We connected lines , put in three phones. A minstrel show are here tonight, they had a parade today, noon. The fire department was called out at 12:30 box 25.

Sunday 23

Weather warm. I wrote to Harry also to Nellie.

Monday,February 24

Weather Warm. I worked on Cornell  lights stringing wire and changing crossarms all morning. This afternoon Louie Stone and I strung wire on Tioga St.

Tuesday 25

Warm weather. We dug two holes and sat the poles on Albany St., then strung wire on Stewart Ave. Also on hill beyond Eddie St., and put in a phone up there. I rec’d letter from Susie and also one from Lillian.

Wednesday 26

Weather warm. We strung wire on Cayuga and Clinton and South Albany Sts. Tied up cable on Auora St.,Garvie from Elmira areas here.

Thursday February 27

Weather warm and pleasant. We strung a little wire on State St. connected up some lines and shaved poles. The head push from Elmira was here. I rec’d letter from Lulu.

February 28

It begun raining last night and has rained by showers all day. We begun work in pole yard but S.W., W.H. and I got sent to Caroline Center on tole trouble. We left here about  11 A.M., had an awful time , roads washed away and we were wet to skin.

Saturday March 1

Nice pleasant day. We came back to Ithaca this morning, got here 11:20. This afternoon Hollister, Louie and I  chased trouble on lines here. University Boys had a big fight here yesterday. Its an awful sight to see water in gorges.

Sunday March 2

It rained about all night and today. I have written to mother and Morton.

Monday 3

Weather a little cooler , it snowed a little last night after it stopped raining. We strung wire all day on State St. this morning, then on Tioga St. I am feeling a great deal better tonight and my eyes are much better.

Tuesday 4

Weather cool. We strung wire all day , some on State St., Plain St., and on North Aurora St. I rec’d letter from Vera and one from Burt. Louie was boss most of day. We also hung cabel on State St.

Wednesday March 5

Weather cold in forenoon, snowed all afternoon, so we could not work but part of afternoon. I bought autoharp and pair of rubber boots. We dug holes on South Aurora St.

Thursday 6

Fine weather , we shaved poles this morning and dug holes the rest of day. I rec’d letter and papers from Nell. W.J. Bryon speaks  here in Lyceum tonight, subject a conquering Nation.

Friday 7

Weather warm. We dug holes this morning and raised holes until 4 P.M. then dug holes again. Received our pay again today.

Saturday March 8

Weather warm.  We dug holes and sat poles on Seneca St. then worked putting in telephones.

Sunday 9

Weather rainy. I wrote to Nell, Vera and William Hulslander. It’s a dark dismal day.

Monday 10

Weather nice and warm. Louie and I put on arms and transferred wires on Seneca St. by Saving Bank. Philllipps and gang came here  today. Harry Ayres is among his gang.

Tuesday March 11

Fine weather. Louie and I finished changing wires on Seneca St. this morn. Then  shaved poles until noon then put on arms at corner of State and Corn St. It’s beginning to rain tonight. I rec’d letter from Burt also Susie. I ans. Burts letter tonight.

Wednesday 12

Weather warm and pleasant. Louie Brown and I put on double crossarms on corner of Clinton ,Cayuga Sts.,also drove steps in poles. I drank first ale today since I came to this place.

Thursday 13

Weather stormy part of time. We drew poles on Tioga St., and sat six. I have been feeling very bad today. I did not sleep much last night on account of sweating so .My stomach is a little out of order but is better tonight.

Friday March 14

Fine weather. Louie, Bradly and I put on double crossarms all day. We received our last week pay today. My throat is quite sore and I feel a great deal better today. I have not smoked since last Wednesday.

Saturday 15

Fine weather. We put on crossarms then put in a telephone, then raised and sat poles on North Tioga St.. I am feeling fine again tonight.

Sunday 16

Weather warm and nice. It tried to rain a little this morning but finally broke away. I wrote to Lillian and Susie.

Monday March 17

Weather cold. We had a fire on top of office pole caused by hot wire last night. It burnt out 50 pair cabel. We all worked on pole all day and are about half through.

Tuesday 18

Very cold ,snowed part of time. We worked on office pole all day. Are trying to get lines to work that was burnt out j, they are not all to work yet. Miller and Bradly quite gang. There is but five of his now in gang.

Wednesday 19

Weather very cold. We chased trouble all day. Have a lot yet . I rec’d letters from Vera and Fanny and E. W. Besley. I ans. Besley’s letter and one from Burt tonight.

Thursday March 20

Weather a little warmer. I helped shack trouble and put in a phone also. Drove a few stepps. I rec’s a letter from S. Brown

Friday 21

Weather warm.  We finished sitting two poles then took down small cabel and put it up on Cayuga St. then transferred wires by Barrel factory. I rec’d letter and paper from Nell today.

Saturday 22

Warm and Pleasant. Louie and I strung wire this morning and this afternoon. We all shacked trouble.

Sunday March 23

Fine weather, nicest day we have  had since we have been here. I wrote letters to Vera , Fannie, Nellie and S.B.

Monday 24

Fine weather. Louie Stone and I put on crossarms all day .While at work, climbing(?) down a pole, a wrench slipped away striking me on top of head. It blead quite a lot and is very sore. Tuesday 25

Fine weather. Louie, Colegrove and I put on arms all day. I rec’d letter from Susie and harry. I went to theater last night and saw played way down east, it was fine.

Wednesday March 26

Fine weather. I’ve strung wire and trimmed trees on Spring St. I sent letter to Susie and one to mother and Burt.

Thursday 27

Tried to rain two or three times today but did not. We worked on poles by Clinton House on Seneca St. I sent letter to Harry.

Friday 28

Weather a little rainy but we worked all day. Louie and I worked by Clinton house and on Albany St. I rec’d letters from cousin will and S.B.  We rec’d our last weeks pay today noon.

Saturday March 29

Tried to rain part of time. We dug holes and shaved and sat poles on South Cayuga St. I rec’d letter from Burt  Ben Phillips gang of linemen. Were all laid off tonight.

Sunday 30

Fine weather. This is Easter Sunday. I wrote letters to Burt, Will, Lillian and S.B. Charley R Reynolds & Joe Newman and Don Bradley came here from Waverly to work.

Monday 31

Fine weather but began to snow toward night. I helped to string wire on south Cayuga and State Sts. ,also put on crossarms on South Cayuga St.

Tuesday April 1

It snowed. It stormed about all day . I done old poles in morning. We unloaded a carload of poles and put on a few arms in afternoon. Some of boys quit work because they didn’t get strait time. I sent $50 to Harry today.

Wednesday 2

Cold raw wind all day. We worked putting on crossarms and transferring wire on State from Corn to Meadow St. Charley Reynolds continues to work for us. Garvey was here today.

Thursday 3

 Weather stormy. We put in phones and on crossarms also changed over wires on state St. I rec’d letter from Susie the first letter I have got this week.

Friday April 4

Fine weather. I helped draw poles all morning . Afternoon I helped Holister put up cabel. Billey Brown came tonight to work here. We received our weeks pay today. I got a letter from Burt.

Saturday 5

Fine weather. I helped Holister string wire  and connect up line down East Cayuga St. to East Geneva St.

Sunday 6

Fine weather in morning but begun to rain about 4 P.M.  I hardly been out of house all day.

Monday April 7

Fine weather. Holister, Stone and I put in two phones and desk set and changed one phone. Wallace Aull came to work tonight.

Tuesday 8

Rained part of time real hard. I worked all day helping put in phones. I rec’d letter from Harry, also from Lillian. I wrote to Susie tonight.

Wednesday 9

It rained about all day. Holister and I put in two telephones and one desk set.

Thursday April 10

It rained a little while .  Holister Stone and I put in two telephones and run wire on Lake St. Louie and Reynolds went to town. I wrote a letter to Brother Harry tonight.

Friday 11

Rained part of day.  Holister and I connected line on State St., then put in phone at Fall Creek. Louie and Charley went to Etna again today.

Saturday 12

It tried hard to rain but did not rain hard. Holister and I put in two telephones on West Hill this morning then we connected up lines the rest of day.

Sunday April 13

Rain and snow. It’s  getting colder tonight. I wrote to Burt, Harry and Lillian. I shaved off my moustache this morning.

Monday 14

A pretty nice day. Holister Stone and I strung wire and put in a phone by carriage shop. I rec’d a letter from Susie and one from Morton.

Tuesday 15

Fine weather. Holister and I put in two telephones then done odd jobs. I wrote to Susie tonight.

Wednesday April 16

Fine weather. Holister, Pool and I put in three phones, strung wire on Albany and Lake Dr. I rec’d a letter from Vera. Louie went too show tonight. I just came from hearing Band play .The show is, In Old Kentucky.

Friday 18

Fine weather.  Holister, Pool and I put in two phones then strung wire on Cornell Heights, Brown, W. M. left this hotel tonight, also Harry Ayres. Received our week pay today.

Saturday April 19

Fine weather. Holister, Pool and I put in two phones and connected lines. Charley Reynolds fell from pole, shattered his arm and hurt him very badly. He was taken to hospital. I rec’d letter from Bro Burt and Lulu.

Monday 21

Nice weather. Holister, Pool and I strung wire on East Hill. I wrote to Vera tonight . I have felt mean all day.

Tuesday April 22

Weather very warm. We strung wire on Prospect St.  Holister, Pool and I put in one phone. I rec’d letter from Nell and one from Lillian.

Wednesday 23

Weather windy and colder. Holister, Pool and I put in two telephones on Giles St.  Sat a pole and got wires to them . I rec’d letter from Fannie.

Thursday 24

Fine weather. Holister, Pool and I spliced cabel and hung it on Lake St. I rec’d letter from Susie. Louie and I visited Reynolds in hospital tonight until 8 P.M. then we attended Band concert in Park by Ithaca Band.

Friday April 25

Weather cool and begun to rain tonight. We strung wire all day took time to put in a phone. I rec’d letter from Mother . We rec’d our weeks pay today.

Saturday 26

Cool and windy.  Holister , Pool and I connected up lines at Fall creek and done some cutting over. I was to see Reynolds this afternoon, he was feeling quite comfortable.

Sunday 27

Weather windy and cold. I wrote to Mother, Susie , Nellie and Lillian. Louie, Brookins and I went all afternoon exploring Buttermilk  Falls, it’s a fine sight.

Monday April 28

Fine weather, quite warm. We strung wire and connected up phones . Holister went into country on trouble. Louie, Brookins and I are going to show tonight called Arizona.

Tuesday 29

Weather nice until 4 P.M. when it begun to rain. Has rained quite hard since. We strung wire on Queen St., and Stewart Ave. I rec’d letter from Morton and Harry. I wrote to Susie tonight.

Wednesday 30

Fine weather. I with two men, strung wire on North Aurora St. this morn and on the hill this afternoon.

Thursday May 1

Cold weather, cloudy all day.  We strung wire on Prospect St., then wired a house on Plain St., then done some cutting over on University Avenue. We rec ‘d our weeks pay today.

Friday 2

Cloudy and cool. We strung wire on Tititus Ave., Prospect St, South Geneva st and Allana St.. It’s a little warmer tonight.

Saturday 3

Cool and cloudy.  We strung wire on North Albany St.,also on West Mill St.  We had a wire on Alltanator this morn but no one was seriously hurt.

Sunday May 4

Fine day but we are having a thunder shower tonight , the first this spring. I am feeling very good today, the best in a long time, although I’ve had nothing to complain of.

Monday 5

Cloudy and cool. Holister, Pool and I finished line on West Mill St.. We healped hang big sign on new exchange then got a line up Spring and Buffalo Sts. I rec’d two Mansfield papers from Nell today.

Tuesday 6

Warm and cloudy. It begun to rain about 5:15 and is raining real hard yet,8 P.M.  I have been healping run wire all day. I rec’d  letters from Vera , Susie and Lillian.

Wednesday May 7

Fine weather. Holister, Pool and I run a little wire connected up lines for three phones and changed bell on one . I wrote to Vera and Harry tonight.

Thursday 8

Fine weather. I took Stone, Pool and Botsford on Cornell Campus and dug holes. I rec’d a letter from Lulu.

Friday 9

Cold windy day. We drew poles upon campus until 4 P.M. then put on crossbars. We rec’d our last weeks pay today noon.

Saturday May 10

Cold raw wind. We put on crossarms , drew poles and sat them on  campus. I bought suit of clothes tonight.

Sunday 11

Weather a little warmer. I wrote to Susie and Lulu

Monday 12

Fine weather. I took 4 men and put on crossarms and strung wire on campus. Louie and I had our pictures took today noon. I saw dress parade by University cadets tonight.

Tuesday May 13

Fine weather but quite a cold wind. I took three men and run wire all day, most of time on Campus. I got my hair cut tonight.

Wednesday 14

Fine weather, a little cool. We all worked on North Aurora St., cutting over wire ,stringing wire and putting on crossarms. Louie and I visited Mr. William Brown and wife, had a very pleasant time.

Thursday 15

Fine weather. We finished work on North Aurora St., took out three telephones and begun job on Spring St. I rec’d letter from F. Baxter offering me job in Conn. Also talked with him over telephone tonight.

Friday May 16

Fine weather. We worked on East State St. in morn. I did not work in afternoon but packed grips ,took them to Depot where Louie and I took train and came to Elmira at night on our way home. Saturday 17

Fine weather. Louie and I left Elmira in morn and arrived at Col X Roads at 8 A.M.. His father met us there. I stayed with them until after dinner then came on and saw my Uncle ,Aunt and Cousins then got home about  6 P.M.

Sunday 18

Fine weather. I found my folks in good shape, all except Father who is lame . We enjoyed ourselves immencely. About 3:30 PM I went to Mansfield with Harry and girls . While there I met Miss Brown and got home about 12 P.M.

Monday May 19

We had light showers this morn. Burt, Morton and I drilled in a piece of corn. I went to Austinville to see Louie tonight but he was gone away. I got home at 10 P.M. Rec’d letter from G. Baxter.

Tuesday 20

Rainy weather. Father and the boys ground feed. We had a cow get chocked which we doctored all morn. I started to pack my clothes.

Wednesday 21

Fine weather. I finished packing my clothes and Mother took me to Mansfield this afternoon , where I stayed all night.

STAMFORD CONN.

Thursday may 22

Fine weather. I left Mansfield on 7:30 train, changed cars at Lawrenceville and went to Corning, N.Y. , where I arrived at 11 A.M.  I visited my sister Nell and Bro-in-law until 6:20 P.M. then took N.Y.C.& H.R.R.R. for N.Y. City.

Friday 23

Fine weather. I rode all night and arrived in N.Y. at Grand Central Depot 7 A.M..My friend F. Baxter met me at 8:30 after which we went around city until 10 A.M.  then took train for Stamford, where we arrived at 12 noon.

Saturday 24

I began work this morn for the Southern North East telephone company here in Stamford. This is a city of 19,000 situated on Long Island sound, and is 39 miles from N.Y. City

Sunday May 25

Light showers. I came to board with Mr. Jones, Alantic St., No.9, last night, lodging here last night for the first. I wrote to Susie, Mother, Lillian, Lulu, Louie

Monday 26

Fine weather. I chased trouble for Southern New England telephone co., in Stamford.

Tuesday 27

Rained about all day. I went to work at 7:30 A.M..  I healped the cabel men pull cabel out of old exchange, healped hunt troubel and moved stuff to new office. Wrote letter to Vera tonight.

Wednesday May 28

Weather cold all day. We strung a few loops, chased some trouble and put in two or three telephones . I bought my uniform tonight, it cost me $8.50.

Thursday 29

Weather a little warmer. Frank and I put in a telephone up Rhodes Hill this afternoon. Minor Dibbel and I went to New Canaan. We went on trolley R.R. and drove back. I rec’d my first Pa. letter today , it was from Sis Lillian.

Fine weather. We put on crossarms and strung some wire. Frank and I put in telephones on Strawberrry Hill. I saw automobile race by 57 automobiles from N.Y. City Automobile Club. The day was observed here.

Fine weather. I run two cabel loops this morn. I went to New Canaan on trouble this afternoon. I rec’d my first pay from the Southern New England Telephone Co. today. I rec’d letters from Susie and Lulu.

Fine weather. I stayed in house about all day. I wrote letters to Lulu , Lillian and Susie. I went to church at Methothist Church tonight.

Monday 2

Fine weather. I went to New Canaan and finished a line this morn. In afternoon , Minor and I run wire on 3d St. It was quite warm today. I sweat quite a bit.

Tuesday June 3

Weather very hot, Minor and I put in a telephone and drew up wire this morn. Then Minor went to N.Y. and I put on crossarms and done some changing wire. I rec’d a letter from Louie W. today. I attended Pawnee Bill show tonight. I saw his parade today. The show was poor for $.50

Wednesday 4

Quite warm, Minor and I went out in country over toe lines this morning. Afternoon, Frank and I strung some wire and cabel down by Depot. I wrote to Louie Wright tonight, Minor bought me a pair of Buffalo Grips in N.Y. City yesterday, they cost me $5.85.

Thursday 5

June weather. Minor and I went to New Canaan this forenoon, fixed some cabel this afternoon we healped electric light raise three poles then we went on trouble . I did not get back until 7 P.M.  I rec’d letter from Sister Nell and one from friend Lillian.

Friday June 6

Fine weather. Minor and I healped electric light people and done a job by Depot. I wrote to mother and Morton also Burt. I sent Morton $9. I rec’d letter from Mother and Morton today noon.

Saturday 7

 Fine weather, it sprinkled a little about noon. Minor and I cleaned out yard back of exchange this morn , this afternoon we put in telephone at Mr. Mixon, Prospect St.  I bought two suits of sindercloth tonight for $1.

Sunday 8

Quite windy, rained , two light showers.  I wrote to Sister Nell . I went to congregational church tonight. The text was:  Thou Knowest’ ,  a fine sermon , also fine singing.

Monday June 9

Fine weather. I fitted poles this morn, afternoon Frank and I put in Deskset at Hospital. A fellow has a gramphone here tonight, he’s played it for two hours. Frank called on me tonight. I bought a handax tonight , it cost me $.86, price was $1.00.

Tuesday 10

Fine weather. I fitted poles all forenoon, afternoon I trimed a tree , put on a crossarm and used toe lines on Glenbroook Ave.. I rec’d letters from Susie, Lulu and Louie. I wrote to Lillian and Susie tonight.

Wednesday 11

Nice weather all forenoon but begun to rain about 4 P.M. and is raining yet, 9 P.M.  I put in cabel at Raymonds repaired wire on Pacific St.,Ganf Bro. and got ground off of circuit 211.

Thursday June 12

Weather very warm. Minor and I run cabel loop on Atlantic St, then I went clearing all obstructions from circuit 63, which goes to Wallas Point. I rec’d a letter from Sister Vera.

Friday 13

Very warm.  I changed loop at Insane Asylum and trimed line in morn, afternoon Frank and I run loop at Seaside Mills. I made application to become member of Telephone Mutual Benefit Society today. I rec’d a letter from Lillian.

Saturday 14

Minor and I went to Sound Beach this forenoon on troublel. Afternoon I went to New Canaan just as I got back at 6 P.M. an Ellectric ground came and Minor and I went to New Canaan on that. We got back at 9 A.M. I did not get supper.

Sunday June 15

Pretty hot. I wrote to Sister Vera, Lillian, Lulu and Louie today. I’ve hardly been out of house. I went to Baptist Church tonight. A pretty good sermon was preached.

Monday 16

Very hot. I chased trouble to Wallacs Point this morn. Afternoon I worked on line on Prospect St. circuit No. 5. It’s raining tonight , a thunder shower.

Tuesday 17

Fine weather. I chased trouble about all day. I rec’d letter from Susie, Nell and Burt. Had a big fire in Laundry today about 2 P.M. . It was in next door to this boarding house about 4 ft. from my room. I bought Susie a ring tonight.

Wednesday June 18

Fine weather. Minor and I drew five holes to waterside then I dug holes the rest of day. I got four down. I sent letter and ring to Susie today noon by registered mail.

Thursday 19

Rained about all morn, but cleared up at noon. I dug one hole and Minor and I dug another together. We chased a little trouble. It was a electric ground on circuit 5.

Friday 20

Fine weather.  Minor and I fitted some poles, loaded and sent to New Canaan. We went up there and unloaded them, came back and fixed wires to Sound Beach. I rec’d letter from Lillian.

Saturday June 21

Rained all day. Minor and I ground up all our tools. I bought a pair of shoes. My room mate left me tonight. We rec’d our weeks pay tonight.

Fine weather, cool and nice. I have written to Lillian, Nell and Burt.  Went to Episcopal Church tonight.

Tuesday June 24

Cool weather. I took two men and went to New Canaan, dug holes , was there all day. I rec’d letters from Mother, Vera and Susie.  We are having Band Concert tonight. My Porch, from Bridgeport came back tonight(?)

Wednesday 25

Cold weather. We worked in New Canaan about all day , setting poles and stringing wire. We got in telephone at Chase.  I rec’d a letter from Lillian Wright tonight.

Thursday 26

Rained all last night very hard. Has been cool and windy today. Minor and I chased trouble all day. Sent letter to Burt for Baxter today. The High School graduates here tonight exercises in opera house tonight.

Friday June 27

Cool weather. Minor and I worked about all day at Sound Beach putting on crossarms, stringing wire, put in a telephone and chased trouble.

Saturday 28

A little warmer today. I chased trouble all morn, healped  Minor put in a telephone afternoon. I climb a flag pole tonight put in a rope at work 10 ft. high. I rec’d a fine picture of my sister Vera and Harry today noon.

Rained very hard all day. I wrote to Vera, Mother and Susie. Went to Prespertyuran church tonight.

Very cool all day. I put in telephone at Mr. Blands and then worked moving one on Cove Road. I wrote to Lillian tonight.

Fine weather. Finished the telephone on Cove Road this morning. Went to New Canaan  this afternoon and wired a house. I rec’d a letter from Bro. Burt today noon.

Wednesday 2

Fine warm day. Minor and I run some wire, took out two telephones and put in two telephones. I rec’d a  letter from friend Boland of Bridgeport and a letter and two papers  from Nell.

Thursday July 3

Rained about all forenoon. I went on trouble afternoon. I went to Sound Beach on No.1 cleared it up and trimed line. They began celebrating here at 9:30 P.M.

Friday 4

Fine weather. Bang-Boom all day since 4 A.M.   We worked until 8:30 P.M. clearing trouble and I took down some wire at Rock Hill Farm. I went to Woodside Park tonight and saw fireworks.

Saturday 5

Weather very hot with thundershower about night. I worked with two men in New Canaan this forenoon , afternoon we dug holes in Darien. I wrote to Susie tonight as I got a letter from her today noon.

Cloudy cool day. I wrote to Nell, Burt Bolan and Louie. I went to Baptist church tonight , did not think much of sermon.

Fine weather , cloudy most of day. I took men and dug holes at Darien.

Tuesday 8

Rained a little in morn but cleared off and was very hot. I took men went to Darien , finished digging holes, fitted poles and sat two. I  rec’d letters from Vera, Morton and Lillian.

Tuesday July 15

Fine weather. We worked on line toward Sound Beach this morn, then we reset two poles in town and chased trouble. I rec’d letter from Mother and a line from Vera, Fine shower tonight.

Fine weather. We worked on line toward Sound Beach digging holes and moved one pole in Sound Beach.

Thursday 17

Fine weather had a nice shower at noon. I set men digging holes at Sound Beach then went and trimed line to Riverside. In afternoon I chased trouble . I rec’d letter and Papers from Nell , also rec’d letter from Lillian.

Friday July 18

Fine weather. The men and I drilled and blasted a hole at Sound Beach this morn afternoon. I went on trouble again . The men went to Sound Beach and dug holes.

Cloudy and cool. I worked on troubles and run two cabel loops . I rec’d a fine letter from Susie.

Cool weather. I wrote to Mother, Susie and Lillian . Went to church at Presbyrterian church. A minister preached form Scranton, Pa. It began to rain again tonight.

Nice pleasant weather. Minor and I put in new telephone and chased trouble all day.

Warm with a heavy shower tonight at dark. Cannon and I run wire toward cove mills then I painted a pole in front of office. I rec’d letter from Vera, Morton and Burt all of which I answered tonight.

Fine weather. Cannon and I run loop into Green house between Springdale and  Glenbrook this morning, afternoon we unloaded and distributed poles on line to Sound Beach.

Thursday July 24

Fine weather. Cannon and I  put up stagings in morn and gained poles toward Sound Beach in afternoon. It began to rain tonight.

Friday 25

Fine cool cloudy day.Cannon and I finished fitting the poles and unloaded eight more. I rec’d a letter from Susie today noon.

Cool cloudy day. I wrote to Susie and Nell. I went to Presbyterian church and heard sermon by preacher from England. There was an awful large congregation.

Fine weather our than awful thunder shower about 4:30. Cannon and I dug holes at Sound Beach of which two were filled up by Mrs. Dale. We also tried unloading some poles there which was dejected to.

Fine day with another shower tonight. We chased trouble all day. I rec’d letters from Vera, Mother, a line from fanny and letter from Lillian.

Wednesday July 30

Fine weather. I chased trouble all day. Went on train to Sound Beach this afternoon and drove horse up here.  I took my first automobile ride today  noon. I rec’d letter from Burt Morton and Lulu.

Fine weather. I run wire from Rock hill farm toward Small Pox House where there is now three cases, came back and went to Sound Beach.

August 1

I worked with Ronegs gang toward Sound Beach all day. We got line cleared so the first trolley car passed over line at 5:30 P.M.   I rec’d letter from Susie tonight.

Fine weather. I worked with gang on line at Sound Beach. Trolley cars began to run regular this afternoon on Sound Beach division. Received our pay today.

Very hot day. I went to Sound Beach with gang this morn then came back and chased trouble rest of day. I deposited $25 more today in Stamford trust Co. Saving Bank.

Very warm, Minor, Frank and Mr. Mix went to field day. I chased trouble all day. I went and saw Militia Co. C of Conn. Drill tonight also heard Band concert in Park.

Rain in morn and about dark. I chased trouble all day. I had my shoes soled and heels put on ,it cost me $1.

Fine weather , cool and nice. I worked with gang on line toward Sound Beach. We got about done. I rec’d a letter from Susie today noon.

Fine weather. I worked with Bridgeport gang stringing wire toward Voroton. We got as far as Glenbrook. We rec’d our weeks pay today, I got all one dollar bills.

Very hot, had a shower about 6 P.M.  I worked with gang stringing wire all day . We went from Glenbrook to Voroton today. I sweat something awful. It’s much cooler since the shower.

Nice cool pleasant day. I drove horse to Voroton for the gang came back and chased trouble rest of day. I rec’d  a letter from Lillian today noon.

Fine weather. Minor went on excursion . Frank and I put in telephone at  Campbels and wired a house at Riverside . I rec’d a letter from Louie Wright.

Fine weather.  Minor and I put up cable seat, strung wire down Atlantic St. and run loop and put in telephone on Voroton Hill.

Fine weather. Minor and I went to Sound Beach on trouble . Came back and got the wires cleared at noon. I healped sat a sign pole afternoon. I rec’d letter from Lulu and one from Vera.

Fine weather. I and frank went to Riverside this morn and put in telephone, came back and Minor and I went to Shippan and transferred a line afternoon .Minor and I helped put up some fire alarm wires on Richmond Hill. Rec’d letter from Susie.

As fine a day as I ever saw. I wrote to Louie, Lillian, Lulu, Susie and Nell. Went to Presbyterian church tonight.

Fine weather. A gang of Italians came to work under me this morn. We are building a new line of 110 poles.

Fine weather. With the gang I got 26 poles sat today. I bought a dinner basket, which is my first one. I wrote to E.W. Besley and Miss  Meade.

Fine weather. I worked on new line with gang. We got 33 poles sat today. Most of boarders are going on excursion tonight but I am going to stay at home. I wrote a letter to Vera.

Rained a little today. I worked with gang. We sat poles by Mr. Taylors house. I rec’d a line from Mother also one from Vera.

Fine weather. I worked with gang setting poles , we got very near end of line. I rec’d a letter from Susie tonight.

Fine weather.  I worked with gang. We have poles about all set for the new line. Received our weeks pay tonight. I rec’d a few lines form Bro Burt.

Fine weather. Minor and I worked on Atlantic St. by R.R. Bridge, putting on crossarms and guys also chased some trouble. I rec’d a letter from Bro. Burt and one from Lulu Brown. I wrote to Louie W. tonight.

Rained very hard all day. I wrote to Louie and to Lulu Brown. I hardly went out of house.

Very nice, pleasant day. We  begin to work on eight hour day this morning.  Minor and I worked change arms and wire on Atlantic St. by R.R. Bridge.  I rec’d letter from Nell, Vera and Harry and Caper.

Fine weather. Minor and I worked on pole at corner of Manhattan and Atlantic St.  I rec’d letter from Susie . I ans. Nells and Susies letters tonight. A big parade tonight on account of election returns.

Fine weather but cool and windy. Minor and I started cutting gams on line toward Shippan. I bought some clothes . I rec’d  a letter from Billie Brown and one from Louie Wright.

It began to rain after noon. I worked all day around office. I took 6 o’clock train for N.Y. City on my way home. Got in N.Y. at 7 P.M. , took train in Jersey City at 9:25 for Corning , N.Y.

Stopped  raining this morning about 4:30 A.M.  About the time we got in Bingo(Binghamton). I arrived in Corning at 7 A.M. this morning. Stayed all  day with Nell and Geo.

Monday Octob er 13

Rained part of time. I took train from Corning for home at 10:30 A.M. I arrived at home tonight at 7: P.M.   Went riding with Susie.

Cloudy and rained some. Jennie Kiff and I went to Corning and were married at 8 o’clock tonight by Rev. Mr. Simmons at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G.T. Rolasan,75 Norman St.

Fine weather. Nell, Geo.,my wife and I took train. Went to Troy w here Burt met us and drove us home,where we arrived about 11 A.M.

Nice weather. Susie and I went up home about 10:30. We drove over to Mansfield this afternoon and brought Fanny home.  We all went to Mr. E. Besleys to party tonight.

Rainy in morn. Minor and I sharpened tools then  put on crossarms on Atlantic St. I paid Board bill this morn of $8.75.

Fine weather. Minor and I put on some crossarms by Atlantic St. Bridge. I went to Marks place below

Sound Beach in afternoon.

Saturday Nov. 1

Nice pleasant day. Minor and I done some cutting over on Atlantic St. below bridge. I went to Sound Beach and moved three poles in afternoon.

Sunday 2

Fine weather. Susie and I stayed in most all day. Susie and I went to Presbyterian church tonight.

Monday November 3

Fine weather. Minor and I chased trouble and went to Sound Beach and moved a pole. A Republican Rally in opera house tonight.

Tuesday 4

Fine weather. a big crowd out to election. Minor and I chased trouble and covered trunk lines to Darien. I paid boardbill of $8.50 this morn.

Wednesday 5

Fine weather. Minor and I transferred wires at Shippan from old St. car poles to new poles. Susie and I went  visiting at Minor Dibbles tonight.

Thursday Nov. 6

Nice weather. Minor and I worked on South Atlantic St. running wire and cutting over.

Friday 7

Cloudy and rained a little. I worked on South Atlantic St., running wire and cutting over.

Saturday 8

Chased trouble all day. I went to Morton in morn, in afternoon Minor and I was on Richmond Hill and on Grove St. Received our pay today.

Sunday November 9

Cool, cloudy day. Susie and I stayed in house all day. Susie and I went to a musical service in Congregational Church tonight.

Monday 10

Fine weather. Minor and I went on trouble. Susie and I packed up our things and prepared to move from Mrs.Rice’s Boarding house.

Tuesday 11

Nice weather. Minor and I went over line and put on cable clips which had came off on wire cable. Susieand I changed Boarding places from Mrs. Rice to Minor Dibbles on Williams St

Wednesday November 12

Weather cold. Minor and I fixed cable in cableboxes at St. Johns Park.

Thursday 13

Cloudy with light rain . Minor and I put on crossarms and transferred wire at Shippan from old poles to new . Susie and I went to opera and saw the Kentucky Fend players. I rec’d a letter from S.W. Reynolds.

Friday 14

Cloudy but cleared off in afternoon and was very warm and nice. Minor and I put hose on cable and run new jumpers in St. Johns Park. Susie was sick.

Saturday November 15

Cloudy in morning but cleared off and was very nice and warm afternoon. Minor and I put on crossarms on Stillwater Ave., also went on trouble.

Sunday 16

Cloudy but warm. I wrote to Harry , Louie and Sall Reynolds. Mr. Charley Brown and Miss Knapp called on Susie and I this afternoon.

Monday 17

Fine weather. Minor and I went to West Port and healped the Norwalk Boys move some poles on the lines ,its 12 miles from here.

Tuesday ,November 18

Cloudy, windy. Minor and I worked at Sound Beach fitting poles. Susie paid Boardbill. Minor  goes to work at 7 AM and quits at 4PM.

Wednesday 19

Fine weather. minor and I went to Sound and finished fitting poles. I went to New Canan in afternoon and moved telephone.

Thursday 20

Fine weather. Minor and I healped Electric light men . Dug holes at Shippan. We also  put on some crossarms. Susie and I spent the evening at Miss Knapps on Banks St., listened to phonograph.

Friday November 21

Fine weather. I healped electric light men finish at Shippan in morn, afternoon Minor and I ran wire and put in telephone at Daskans on Broad St. Also I moved Jenkins telephone on Wash-Ave. Received our pay today.

Saturday 22

Fine weather. Minor and I run wire on Stillwater Ave. and covered trunk lines . It began to rain about 5 P.M. and is raining very hard tonight.

Sunday 23

Windy and cold. Minor and I worked all day until 9:50 P.M. healping cable men do some work in Bedford Park.

Monday November 24

Fine weather. Minor and I chased trouble this morn. I put in telephone at Schofields , Broad St and went to Coliners Point. I begin work at 7 A.M. and quit at 4 P.M. this week.

Tuesday 25

Cloudy and cool. Minor and I  chased trouble. Went to Sound Beach and dug holes in afternoon. I rec’d letter from Bro Burt and Mother.

Wednesday 26

Rained all morning. Minor and I worked in office until noon then went to Talmage Hill and reset a hole which had fallen down.

Thursday November 27

Cold raw wind. Minor , Frank and I worked until noon putting in tel . on Richmond Hill as it was Thanksgiving day we did not work in afternoon. Minors people had  a fine dinnerr , turkey and Duck.

Friday 28

Cold and Windy.  I put in tel. at Browns on Forest St. this morn. Minor and I went to Coliners Point in afternoon and moved Ziglers telephone. We got back about 6 P.M.

Saturday 29

Nice pleasant day. I went on trouble on trunk lines to Darien. Came back and healped Minor put in two telephones.

Sunday November 30

Fine pleasant day. Minor and his wife went to his home to see his folks. Susie and I kept house.

Monday Dec. 1

Fine weather. I went on trouble then Minor and I worked on trunk lines. I bought suit of overalls and jumper.

Tuesday 2

Fine weather. Minor an d I put in tel. at Mrs. Roosevelts , fixed up trunk lines and repeared wire at J.G. Williams. I wrote to Louie tonight. Frank and Miss Girlie came over to spend eve. I am about sick.

Wednesday December 3

Warm , rained some last night. Minor and I put in tel. at Reeds and  worked on line on South St. I rec’d letter from Harry and one from Erna. I wrote to Burt.

Thursday 4

Fine weather. Minor and I healped cable men, then worked on South St. line putting on crossarm and drawing slack out of wire.

Friday 5

Rain and snow and sleet. Wind blew like the dickens. We worked in office all morn, afternoon I went to Darien ,got back about 4:20 P.M.

Saturday, December 6

Fine weather. I went on trouble. Was to Sound Beach in morn and Noroton in afternoon. I got through work tonight at 5:00 P.M.

Sunday 7

Snowed and rained. Susie went to see doctor about her eye. I stayed in house about all day.

Monday 8

Cold , windy day. I chased trouble and done two or three little jobs. I bought a cap tonight. Susie and Mrs. Dibble went to minstrel show. I rec’d letter from  Burt.

Tuesday December 9

Very cold, 6 degrees below zero.  I chased trouble and put in telephone at Harvey Hoyts South St..The women had a falling out tonight.

Wednesday 10

Weather a little warmer, acts like rain tonight. I chased trouble and healped cable men. I rec’d letter from Louie, he said I could get work in Binghamton. Rec’d letter from Billy Brown.

Thursday 11

Weather warm , began to storm about 2 P.M.  We worked around off ice, on South St. and put on crossarms over on Weed Ave. I wrote to E.M Bisley tonight.

Friday Dec. 12

Cold wintry day. Minor and I went to Darien , put in tele, came back and Norwalk boys were here to healp us and we began stringing wire to Shippan. I rote to Nell tonight.

Saturday 13

Stormed and was very rough. We did not do much in morn except chase a little trouble afternoon. We healped cable men take pipe off from pole. I bought pair of leggings and rubbers.

Sunday 14

Nice day , overhead it snowed last night and this morn there was about 12 inches on ground. I wrote to Harry and Burt.

Monday December 15

Cold in morn but got warmer. Minor and I started putting in tel. on Hoyt St. then went on trouble the rest of day.

Tuesday 16

Rained very hard all day. I was out in it about all the time on trouble, got very wet.

Wednesday 17

Cold rain, wind. Minor and I worked stringing wire to Shippan. We have the wire about down there.

Thursday, December 18

Nice weather. We went on trouble and finished stringing wire to Shippan and put the telephone in . Susie’s half sister came to make her a corset(?)this afternoon. Jessie Luther of Middletown Conn.

Friday 19

Fine weather. Minor and I healped cable men and put in telephone at Newcombs on Hoyt St. Also cut over wires on Broad St. cable pole. Susie rented a room on Main  St. where she and Jessie stayed tonight.

Saturday 20

Fine weather.  We left Minor Dibbles today, his wife got on a fit, so we left . Jessie Luther went home this afternoon. Minor and I strung wire on Weed

Sunday December 21

Rained hard all day. Jennie and I stayed in room all day except when we went out to dinner. I bought a meal ticket in restaurant today. 21 Meals for four dollars.

Monday 22

Fine weather. Minor and I cut over cable pole at Park Row in morn, afternoon we both chased trouble. Nice and warm..

Tuesday 23

Nice day but quite cold. Minor and I worked on new telephone at Sound Beach also chased trouble. Wrote to Louie tonight.

Wednesday December 24

Fine weather. We chased trouble and worked on line at Sound Beach. Louie made me a Xmas present of collar and cub box.

Thursday 25

Snowed in morn but stopped toward night. Susie and I went out once to dinner. We cooked oysters and had lunch by ourselves.

Friday 26

Cold wintry day. Minor and I finished putting in telephone at Kooks at Sound Beach and run look for Kings tel. I rec’d letter from Father today noon also present of a tie from Burt. Susie got a watch.

Saturday December 27

Very cold in forenoon. Minor and I drove to Coliners Point and reset a pole , came back and connected up two telephones. Received a Christmas present from Vera.

Sunday 28

A fine pleasant day. Mr. Brown and Miss Knapp came calling on us. I wrote to Father.

Monday 29

Snowed some. Minor and I run wire and put on some crossarms on Forrest St. to get a wire for a telephone at Baldings on Suberban Ave.

Tuesday December 30

Fine weather. Minor and I run some wire on State St., also went on trouble . Susie and I were both about sick with headache.

Wednesday 31

Fine weather. Minor an d I finished putting up wire on State St. and cutting over to give gas house direct wire. I went to Coliners Point in afternoon on troubel. Received a letter from Vera.
