Thursday, 1
Freezing night, day fair and pleasant. Attended to chores, chopping wood &c. At night went up to Taylor’s for the Tribune. Drake & family, Smiley & Lurenda, Azor & Eliza, with Delos, were here today. In the evening Elon, Mr. Chattle & Ed. made a call.
Friday, 2
Day fair & weather moderate. Attended to the stock, chopped some wood, worked some at my tobacco, and at night went to the Huddle after the Tribune. Mr. Chattle called in the forenoon and Elon in the evening.
Saturday, 3
Weather fair & quite mild. Took care of the stock, chopped some wood & did a little at repairs. Went up to Taylor’s in the afternoon for the Tribune but failed to get it. Rec’d. notice as arbitrator at Canton on 15th inst. Julius called & Chattle.
Sunday, 4
Thawed all night & thro the day. Morning fair, afternoon cloudy & rainy. Attended to the chores & remained at home with wife. Ella went away last night & has not returned. Elon called, bringing me the Tribune. Ed. called in the evening.
Monday, 5
Day fair & warm. Snow gone & frost out of the ground. Besides the routine of chores I set some gate posts & commenced repairing the fence in front of the house. Isaac & Elon called in forenoon & Ed. & Manville in the evening.
Tuesday, 6
Cloudy, rainy & snowy. Attended to the chores & finished repairing the fence in front of the house, except making the gate. In the evening Mr. Chattle called and Ed. was here.
Wednesday, 7
Clear & cloudy, with flurries of snow & quite cold. Attended to the chores & chopped some wood. Went up to Griffin’s shop calling at the store for the Tribune. Elon & Sarah, Mr. Chattle & Ed. were here in the evening.
Thursday, 8
Partially cloudy. Weather moderate. Attended to the stock at the barn and chopped wood at the house. Elon called in the afternoon, and went from here to the Huddle for the Tribune, but there was no mail today. Jeff. called in the evening.
Friday, 9
Day cloudy & weather moderate. Attended to the chores at the barn & chopped wood at the house. Elon brought me two numbers of the Tribune. Amanda was here in the afternoon & Mr. Chattle in the evening.
Saturday, 10
Weather moderate with storm of rain & snow. Attended to the affairs at the barn and the balance of the time chopped wood at the house. At night went to the Huddle but did not get the Tribune.
Sunday, 11
Day partially fair & weather colder. The ground covered with a thin coating of ice. Remained at home with wife and attended to the chores as usual. Elon & Mr. Chattle called. Ed. brought the Tribune.
Monday, 12
Weather moderate & the day partially cloudy. Attended to chores. Attended suits at Robert’s as witness, & went to the Huddle for the Tribune & to engage Griffin to shoe Ella tomorrow. Elon called.
Tuesday, 13
Weather continues mild and partially fair. Did chores, chopped wood & took Ella to Griffin’s shop in the morning, going after her again in the afternoon. Fremont came to stay while I am gone to Troy & Canton.
Wednesday, 14
Cloudy & rainy through the day. Went to Troy with Ed’s carriage, he going with me. Bought a hat, a vest, a pair of overshoes, some groceries &c. at different stores, & went to Azor’s where we tarried over night.
Thursday, 15
Weather same as yesterday. We went to the village & had a shoe set on Ella & then went over to Canton. J.E. Bullock was chosen in place of L.D. Taylor & the trial commenced. We stayed at Stockwell’s.
Friday, 16
The rainstorm continues. Proceeded with the trial and concluded it in the evening. I put up with John Griffin & Ed. staid at the Keystone with Olney Churchill who is boarding there.
Saturday, 17
Weather cold & unpleasant. Made some calls in the morning, & then started for home. We called & took tea at Luther’s on the way. In the evening Elon & Sarah were here, & Dave Sayles called to a Commisioner’s notice.
Sunday, 18
Day fair & pleasant. Remained at home during the day. Attended to chores as usual. Amanda came over Elon spent some time here & Ed. made a call.
Monday, 19
Day fair & the weather continues pleasant. Attended to the stock and chopped some wood at the house. Balance of the time I spent in the library reading. Mary went down to the Steam Mill.
Tuesday, 20
Partially cloudy & cold. Attended to chores & chopped some wood. Went to the Corners & got some postage stamps & then to the Huddle & sent to the Summit by Parsons a letter to Luman. Received one from Luman by Parsons.
Wednesday, 21
Cloudy & snowy. Did the chores, chopped some wood & read the papers. Ed. called in the afternoon with two numbers of the Tribune. He was here again in the evening. Mr. Barnes called in the afternoon.
Thursday, 22
Cloudy & mild with a little rain. Attended to the routine of chores at the barn & the house as usual, chopping fire wood, & went up to the Huddle & got the Tribune. Dave Sayles, J. H. Ross & Ed. called in the course of the day.
Friday, 23
Cloudy & some cooler. Attended to the chores & met with the Road Commissioners at the Huddle. Robert called in the morning & qualified me to act. David Sayles presented me with a very nice cane.
Saturday, 24
Day partially fair & mild. Attended to the stock at the barn, chopped some wood at the house, & repaired some fence of Mr. Chattle’s on the line. Ed. called in the evening.
Sunday, 25
Day fair, warm & pleasant. Remained at home with wife and attended to the chores at the house and barn. In the evening wrote a letter to Luman. Mr. Chattle called in the afternoon & Ed. in the evening.
Monday, 26
Day cloudy, rainy & muddy. Did nothing more than chores today. In the evening posted some accounts for Mr. Griffin. Sent my letter to the Huddle in the morning by Dan. Wilcox. Ed. called towards night.
Tuesday, 27
Day cloudy, snowy & thawy. Attended to the chores and chopped a little wood. Went to the Huddle for the Tribune but failed to get it. Mr. Bunyan called in the middle of the day & staid till in the evening.
Wednesday, 28
Day cloudy & cooler. Snow storm continues moderately. Attended to affairs at house & barn, & went to the Huddle & got two numbers of the Tribune, & an engraved likeness of Hon. D. Wilmot, sent me by him. Jeff. called at night.
Thursday, 29
Snow 2 feet deep & continues falling. Cleared off in the afternoon. Wrote a letter to Mr. Wilmot, attended to the affairs about the barn and house and shovelled some paths in the snow. Ed. called in the eve.
Friday, 30
Partially cloudy & mild. Did the chores, wrote a letter to Harvey, shovelled some snow, chopped some wood, & went to Huddle for the papers. Wife went to Troy with Drake & Amanda. Ed. called & gave him the letters to mail. Griffin called.
Saturday, 31
Day fair & mild. Did the chores, chopped some wood & went to the Huddle for the Tribune. Smiley & Lurenda came & went over to Drake’s at night. Rec’d. notice from P. M. Middletown Ct. of unpaid letter there. Wrote reply.

Sunday, 1
Principal part of the day cloudy with storm of rain & snow at night. Attended to the chores with Fremont. Smiley’s folks, Drake’s folks, & Azor’s folks were here. Rec’d. letter from Mr. Atkins. Went home with Smiley on my way to Court.
Monday, 2
Day partially fair & colder. Smiley went with me part of the way & I found opportunities to ride the balance. Went into Court but Jury not called till towards night. Went with Thomas Smiley, James Warren & others, to board with Mrs. Vandercook.
Tuesday, 3
Cloudy & the weather considerably colder. Attended Court & served on the first Jury, convicting a boy of larceny.
Wednesday, 4
Day partially fair & the weather very cold. Attended the Court. Mr. Tid & Mr. MacFarlane called on me there wishing to employ me to obtain the right of way for R.R. At night Jury discharged. Paid $4.08 Argus debt.
Thursday, 5
Cloudy & stormy & cold. Paid my land lady $1.25, paid my Reporter debt of $5.75 & started with Mr. Warren for home. Arrived at Smiley’s at 1 o’clock, started again at 4, & got home before dark, walking 15 miles of the way. Found letter from Luman.
Friday, 6
Rained in the night & nearly all day. Streams high. Helped Fremont do the chores & wrote two letters, one to Luman & one to Mr. Atkins. Had no company except Ed. who called twice in the course of the day.
Saturday, 7
Principal part of the day cloudy & the weather mild. Helped Fremont do the chores & carried my letter to the P.O. in the morning. Bunyan was here in the afternoon with Elon, & Elon & Jeff. in the evening.
Sunday, 8
Fair in the forenoon, cloudy in the afternoon. Thawed considerably. Remained at home during the day and attended to the chores. Mary only attended meeting. Had no company except Ed. & some girls.
Monday, 9
Day clear & cloudy, with moderate soft weather. Attended to the chores, chopped some wood, & fixed the smoking works in the cellar. Elon was here in the evening. Meribah Chattle died this morning.
Tuesday, 10
Cear & cloudy, thawing some. Did the chores with Montie, chopped some wood & commenced smoking the hams. Elon called in the evening, & Valentine came in, bringing me some blanks from Mr. Macfarlane for R.R. releases.
Wednesday, 11
Day principally cloudy & mild. Attended to the chores, chopping some wood & attended to the meat smoking. Julius called in the morning. In the evening wrote a letter to Br. Wells.
Thursday, 12
Snow storm through the day. Weather moderate. Took care of the stock and attended to the smoking works in the cellar. Uriah Baxter, Elon and Jeff. called in the course of the day & Ed. in the evening. Wrote to Br. Wells.
Friday, 13
Day fair & moderate. Did nothing more than chores. Received nine large books from Mr. Wilmot. Wrote to Harvey in the evening. Mr. Tid came to see me on R.R. Matters, Geo. Johnson & others were here in the course of the day.
Saturday, 14
Very freezing night and pleasant day. Most sick with a cold. Did the chores & chopped some wood. Sent my letters to P.O. at the Corners. Elon called & also Ed.
Sunday, 15
Day cloudy, weather mild, thawing considerable. Continue unwell, remaining at home, but attended to the matters at the barn and house as usual. Elon & Ed. were here in the course of the day.
Monday, 16
Day fair and pleasant, and the thaw continues. Feel a little better. Attended to the stock at the barn and chopped some wood at the house. No Tribune today. Ed. made two calls in the course of the day & evening.
Tuesday, 17
Day cloudy, thawing some. Continue not very well. Took care of the stock & did some repairing about the barn, besides chopping some wood. Elon and were here.
Wednesday, 18
Day cloudy & thaw continues. In addition to my cold, I am very lame today. Did nothing more than take care of the stock & chop a little wood for the stove. Valentine & Ed. were here, & at night Mathias Manly called.
Thursday, 19
Day cloudy, foggy, & rainy. Lameness continues, but notwithstanding I attended to my chores & chopped some wood. Had no company today except Ed. who called as usual. Heavy rain in the evening.
Friday, 20
Cloudy & clear. Some cooler. Feel some better. Did the chores & wrote a letter to Rhoda Bailey & one to Luman. Smiley & Lurenda came & brought some hams to be smoked. He went to Troy & She to Drakes. Mr. Chattle called in the evening. Ed came in also.
Saturday, 21
Day fair & quite cold. Feel considerably better. Did the chores & chopped some wood. Smiley returned from Troy & Lurenda from Drake’s. They went home in the afternoon. Had calls by Ed., Uriah Baxter, Levi Taylor, Mr. Chattle & Elon.
Sunday, 22
Day cold & snowstorm commenced in the morning continuing through the day & evening. Attended to the chores & balance of the time remained in the house wife & Mary. Ed. called in the evening.
Monday, 23
Day fair, thawing some in the sunshine. Attended to the chores and chopped some wood. Went up to the Huddle & bought some stationary. Ed. called in the evening. Wife went to Troy. Harvey’s cow had a calf.
Tuesday, 24
Day cloudy & more mild. Attended to chores, chopped wood & repaired stables. Elon called in the middle of the day, Levi in the afternoon, Mr. Newland towards night & Ed. in the evening. Old Daisey cow brought a calf.
Wednesday, 25
Day fair & warm. Sleighing gone. Did the chores & chopped some wood. Newland & Burlingame began to thresh the rye in the afternoon. Br. Encill called. Azor brought Eliza down & left her for a few days. Thomas Woodruff from Towanda called. Andrew Royce called & staid over night.
Thursday, 26
Day cloudy & warm & muddy. Business same as yesterday. Andrew departed after breakfast. Newland & Burlingame worked here at threshing rye. Elon called here in the morning & Ed came in the evening.
Friday, 27
Morning rainy & balance of the day fair. Weather quite warm. Attended to the chores at the house & barn, chopped a little wood & cleaned out the hog pen separating the old sow from the others. Newland & Burlingame here.
Saturday, 28
Day partially fair & warm. Did chores &c. & took care of the rye. Newland & Burlingame finished. Azor brought Edward Rockwell & his wife & Miss McKean. After meeting Hiram Stone & his wife & Miss Crandall came. Ed. brot me $20. from Loren(?).

Sunday, 1
Warm cloudy & snowy. Attended meeting besides attending to company & chores. Smiley & Lurenda came up. Drake, Amanda & Lucella were here. Harvey Holcomb son & daughter & Miss Wilcox came in the afternoon. Smiley & Lurenda staid.
Monday, 2
Partially fair warm & muddy. Attended to the chores &c. and with with wife rode up to Luther’s with Smiley & Lurenda to see Tommy who came home on friday the 20th with his discharge from the service. Smiley & Lurenda went home.
Tuesday, 3
Principal part of the day cloudy with some snow. Ground very wet. Did the chores, chopped some wood and cleaned out all the stables, & regulated things at the barn. In the afternoon Mr. Cuddington called.
Wednesday, 4
Clear & cloudy, & very cold. Attended to the chores as usual, chopped some wood, but spent the principal part of the time in the house at reading the papers. Julius called towards night.
Thursday, 5
Day fair and cold. Attended to the chores & wrote a letter to Dan. Levi Taylor called in the morning. Tho. Woodruff in the forenoon & again at night. Isaac called in the middle of the day and Elon came in towards night.
Friday, 6
Partially fair and moderate. Attended to the chores as usual, chopped some wood, and wrote a letter to Luman. Julius called in the morning, and came again at night spending the evening with us. Gave my letters to him for mailing.
Saturday, 7
Another N. E. Allday, snowstorm. Took care of the stock and chopped a little wood. One of Harvey’s sheep had two lambs & another lost two. Julius called twice, and Mr. Bunyan & Mr. Chattle were here.
Sunday, 8
Fore part of the day cloudy and a little more snow fell. Latter part fair & the snow began to thaw. Remained at home with wife. Mary attended meeting in the evening. Elon made a call, Jeff. was here and Manville came in. Rec’d. letter from Harvey.
Monday, 9
Day partially fair & mild. Attended to the chores and attended a meeting of Com’rs in the forenoon. Mr. Bunyan came home with me and I filled out a deed for him. Azor and Eliza were down and went to Drake’s. Ed. called in the evening.
Tuesday, 10
Principal part of the day fair. Did the chores, chopped some wood, & went up to the Store and bought some sugar and got the Tribune. Elon called in the afternoon and Julius was here in the evening.
Wednesday, 11
Clear & cloudy with flurries of snow. Attended to chores, cut some wood, and sold To. Fleming 500 of hay from Chattles barn. Mr. Stockwell and his wife made a call in the forenoon, Ed. came in, and smiley was here in the middle of the day.
Thursday, 12
Principally fair and quite cold. Attended to the chores, chopped some wood, and repaired the mangers in the cow stables in the barn. Br. Churchill called in the middle of the day, and Ed. was in several times.
Friday, 13
Weather same as yesterday. Considerably unwell. Did the chores, chopped some wood and in the evening wrote a letter to Harvey. Julius called in the afternoon.
Saturday, 14
Cold weather continues. More unwell today than yesterday. Did nothing more than the chores at the barn. Sent letter to the P.O. in the morning by Julius. Br. Rockwell called in the afternoon. Ed gave us a lamb.
Sunday, 15
Partially fair and the weather more moderate. Feel a little better today. Attended to the chores as usual, remaining at home with wife. Ed called & in the evening Mr. & Mrs. Chattle, and Mr. Crandal came in.
Monday, 16
Cloudy till afternoon, & moderate. Remain not very well and did nothing more than the chores. Calvin called & I paid him $5.00 my subscription for a church bell at Leroy. Laythan called, and Mr. Bunyan was here in the afternoon. Mr. Chattle called.
Tuesday, 17
Fair and considerably warm. Some better today. Did the chores and chopped some wood. Mr. Fleming called and paid me $3. for hay. Mr. & Mrs. Bunyan were here in the afternoon and evening. Julius called. Robert here in the evening.
Wednesday, 18
Fair and weather cool. Health improves slowly. Did the chores, chopped some wood, and attended a meeting of the Road Commissioners at the Huddle. Bought some rope and a tin pail at the store.
Thursday, 19
Partially fair and quite cool. Attended to the chores as usual. Azor and Eliza came down and brought with them Luman. Luther and Sally came with Thomas. In the afternoon Mr. VanBuskirk came with Luman’s team.
Friday, 20
Partially fair and quite cold. Attended to the chores. Luman chopped some wood and with Mr. Cuddington, skinned a yearling heifer, which died of the murrain. Sold the skin to Mr. Cuddington for $1.32. Ed was here.
Saturday, 21
Cloudy with cold south wind. Did nothing more than the chores. Luman went to Leroy to the Festival with Ed. and others, returning late in the evening. Mr. Cuddington came an bought some butter. Julius called twice.
Sunday, 22
Day cloudy and the weather considerably warmer than it has been for some time. Remained at home with wife and attended to the chores. Luman and Mary attended meeting at the Huddle. Ed. called.
Monday, 23
Cloudy and rained a little in the afternoon. Went with wife up to Luther’s calling a short time to see Delight who is sick. Went from Luther’s to the Summit & paid $1.17 postage on the Tribune.
Tuesday, 24
Forenoon cloudy, afternoon and evening rainy. Did chores, and helped Luman weigh and load a half ton of hay at Chattle’s barn which he took down to Fleming. Subscribed for some friut trees of an agent. J. B. Packard called.
Wednesday, 25
Water high in the streams. Day cloudy & mild. Did chores and attended meeting of Road Commissioners. Rec’d. $3.50 for services. Luman hauled home some hay and straw from Chattle’s barn, and chopped some wood.
Thursday, 26
Cloudy with a flurry of snow in the afternoon. Went down to the Corners in the morning & got Lute to help me do the chores. Attended with the Road Commissioners again today. Luman started for Clearfield co. again at 2 o’clock in the morn.
Friday, 27
Partially fair & weather moderate. Assisted Lute about the chores, He went home at night, being unwell. Amanda was here this afternoon. Br. Encill called this afternoon, with Br. Hooper, editor of "Herald of the South." Subscribed & paid $1. for year.
Saturday, 28
Day cloudy with snow falling a considerable portion of the day. Weather moderate. Attended to the chores with Lute as usual. Went up to the Huddle and got the Tribune and read it.
Sunday, 29
Day fair with a cold wind. Attended to the chores with Lute. Azor and Eliza came down and Drake and Amanda came also. Towards night went home with Azor, with the intention of going to the village tomorrow.
Monday, 30
Day fair & not very warm. Went to the village and paid off Mr. Ballard & Dr. Parsons besides a small debt to Delos. Bought a coat & pair of pants at Perine’s. Returned towards night to Azor’s and tarried with them again.
Tuesday, 31
Day cloudy & more mild. Walked home from Azor’s calling a short time at the Huddle on the way. Helped Lute do the chores at night. R.R. surveyors in the neighborhood at work. They put up with Julius.

Wednesday, 1
Day fair and quite cold. Attended to the chores with Lute. Went down to Julius’ and from thence over the creek where the Engineers were at work surveying the R.R. route. Allen Bovier called in the afternoon.
Thursday, 2
Day partially fair, raining a little towards noon. Went up the road in the morning to see the operations of the R.R. Engineers. Called at Valentine’s & at Luthers, & went on as far as the Summit. Returned in the evening.
Friday, 3
Day fair, thawing considerably. Helped Lute do the chores, went up to the store, sold Randolf Bailey 32 bundles of rye straw & Decator Pepper 25 bundles. Smiley & Lurenda, with Decator & Emily called & took dinner with us.
Saturday, 4
Day fair and weather mild. Went up to Mr. Bunyan’s, calling at the Huddle. Bunyan not being at home left $10. with Mrs. Bunyan to pay for some siding & money borrowed. Came home by way of Drake’s & the Corners, calling at each place. Rec’d. 2 letters from Dan.
Sunday, 5
Day cloudy and weather continues mild. Snow commenced falling in the morning early, & continued till in the afternoon. Remained at home and with Lute attended to the chores. Ed. called in afternoon, & Elon in the evening.
Monday, 6
Day fair till towards night, then rainy. Weather warmer & snow gone. Helped Lute do the chores, & put up some grain & take it up to the mill. Lute went with team & hauled a load of hay for his father. Dimick called, & Ed in the evening.
Tuesday, 7
Cloudy and cold with the ground covered with snow in the morning. went to Towanda with Mr. Bunyan. Returning called at Monroe, & came on up to Smiley’s where we put up at 11 o’clock in the evening. Roads very muddy and bad.
Wednesday, 8
Day partially cloudy & weather continues quite cool We started from Smiley’s in the morning after breakfast and came home. Went up to the Huddle with Mr. Bunyan. Bought 12 lbs. sugar for Valeria.
Thursday, 9
Day fair & considerably warmer. Helped Lute do the chores and attended Road Commissioners meeting at the Huddle. Towards night went down to the Corners with a letter from Luman to Ed. Manville called.
Friday, 10
Day fair and the weather continues warm. Assisted Lute in doing the chores, went to the Huddle and got the Tribune, and wrote a letter to Daniel. Julius called in the afternoon & Manville towards night.
Saturday, 11
Principal part of the day fair. Weather warm and springlike. Helped Lute do the chores, sold Decator Pepper 103 bundles of straw and John Tice 25 bundles. Carried letter to the Corners and sent it to Troy by Jack. Jeff. called. Rec’d. letter from Luman.
Sunday, 12
Day cloudy and warm, raining a little. Snow disappearing from the hills and the creek high. Remained at home with wife, assisting Lute about the chores. Julius called in the morning Elon in the afternoon, & Ed in the evening.
Monday, 13
Principal part of the day fair. Helped Lute do the chores in the morning, doing nothing more during the day, being unwell. Manville called & left me the 2nd Vol. of History of the Rebellion. At night John Tice called and Mr. Bunyan came in.
Tuesday, 14
Day fair and springlike. Waited till towards night for Mr. Macfarlane, but he failing to come I walked up to Azor’s, arriving there at about 8 oclock in the evening. Tarried there over night, having some business at the village next day.
Wednesday, 15
Weather fair and pleasant, clouds and some rain towards night. Called at the village, & from thence walked to the Summit, after spending some time there rode down to the Huddle with John Sayles. Called at Percival’s shop a short time.
Thursday, 16
Rained all night & rained all day. Streams very high. Went down to Julius’ to see Mr. Macfarlane. Signed a release for right of way for R.R. for $120 which is only the cost of fencing. Tommy(?) is here. Elon called.
Friday, 17
Day cloudy and cool, raining a little in the morning. Went with wife and Tommy to Smithfield to see Valeria and carry her some supplies of provisions &c for her family. We tarried there over night.
Saturday, 18
Cloudy weather continues. After breakfast in the morning we started for home. We arrived at West Burlington about noon, and called on Mr. Stevens where we took dinner. We got home before night.
Sunday, 19
Morning foggy and the day fair and pleasant. Remained at home during the day assisting Lute about the chores. Family & Tommy attended the funeral of Wesley Collins at the Huddle. Amanda here & Elon called.
Monday, 20
Morning fair, balance of the day cloudy and rainy. Helped Lute do the chores and haul a jag of hay from Chattle’s barn. Afternoon prepared some blank releases for R.R. Smiley called on his way to Troy. Young Daisey came in.
Tuesday, 21
Day fair and warm. Started off to obtain right of way for R.R. Called at store, Andrews, Valentine’s, Luther’s, Morse’s, the depot, Packard’s, Shoemaker’s & went down to Luther’s & put up for the night. Saw Mr. Butler & Woodruff at the depot.
Wednesday, 22
Day fair and warm. Went with Luther to examine the line of the R.R. across his land in the morning, then went to Bovier’s, Porter’s, Catlin’s, Shoemaker’s, Packard’s, Vannest’s, Coolbaugh’s, Ayers’, & put up again at Luther’s.
Thursday, 23

Rainy night and rainy day. Started from Luther’s after breakfast on business for the R.R. company. Called on M. B. Porter and obtained his release, and then went on to the Summit and from there to M. T. Porter’s & to Stephen Landon.

Rain continues, coming from the north east. Streams very high. Started from Stephen’s after breakfast, for home, calling at the depot, at Luther’s & took dinner there, at Valentine’s and at the Huddle on the way.

Northeast storm continues. Did nothing more today than to carry some butter to the store to trade for some milk pans, and to read the papers at home. Recived letter from Mr. Macfarlane. Julius & some others called.

Rainy weather continues. Did nothing more than to go up to the Hickory field to see the mare and colt, and to go up to the store in the afternoon to get the paper. The boys the clover seed on the rye in the chesnut field in the forenoon.

Cloudy without any rain. Went up to the store in the afternoon and got the paper. Towards night went down to the Corners calling a short time at Robert’s. The boys fixed up some fence. Ed. and some others called.

Frosty morning, day fair and warm. Looked about the farm some. In the afternoon went up to the store & got the Tribune, and down to the Corners and got my mail there. The boys worked at repairing fence on the flat, and above the orchard.

Day fair and heat moderate. Worked a part of the day at pulling flax on the flat. Luman worked at haying. Perley helped Stiles in the forenoon and they both helped Luman get in hay in the afternoon. They hauled three loads.

Weather continues fair and warm. Worked a little at the flax, bound and put up what I had pulled. Luman and Perley worked at cutting the oats on the flat, cradling and mowing. They are badly lodged. Mr. Crandal called in the morning.

Forenoon fair, afternoon cloudy & rainy. Rode to Towanda with Valentine. Paid Goodrich $1. for Reporter. Bought an umbrella & some other articles, called at Greenwood to see Woodin, and then came on up to Smiley’s where we staid over night.

Day fair & moderately cool. Came home in the morning after breakfast. Went over to Bunyan’s and bargained with him for fifteen sheep at $2.75 per head. Took dinner there and he came with down to the Huddle.

Cloudy & cold, snowing a little. Went up to the store, & from thence to Luther’s. Rode back to the Huddle with Hewit, found Mr. Bunyan there who came home with me. Elon & Julius called. Harvey hauled some wood. In the evening Tommy called.

Tuesday, 1
Weather fair and cold. Posted accounts for Griffin in the forenoon, and towards night went up to the Center. Harvey helped Mr. Stiles at threshing. Luman returned from the Windfall. Mr. Bunyan called & staid over night.
Wednesday, 2
Weather fair and warmer. Called with Mr. Bunyan at Elon’s in the morning. Went up to the store and got the Tribune. Harvey hauled some wood in the forenoon & took up the remainder of the flax in the afternoon. Julius called.
Thursday, 3
Weather fair and mild. Chopped some firewood at the house, and in the middle of the day went up to the store and got the Tribune. The boys went today to do some trading and for other purposes.
Friday, 4
Weather similar to yesterday. Went up to the store and got the Tribune and spent the balance of the time in the library. Harvey plowed the garden & commenced the field above the west orchard. Luman cut some wood.
Saturday, 5
Cloudy with squall towards night. Went with wife in the afternoon over to Jeremy Bailey’s. At night went down to Marlin’s & staid over, attending meeting in the evening to hear Br. Strait. Luman went over with waggon & bought a ram of Sam. Rockwell & brought home.
Sunday, 6
Day fair and pleasant, the weather being considerably cold. Attended meeting in the forenoon heard Br. Strait, & witnessed the conversion of three persons. Went to Harvey’s(?) to dinner, to meeting in the evening, & staid with Calvin. Wife rode home with Luman.
Monday, 7
Day fair & some warmer. Left Calvin’s after breakfast, calling at Br. Rockwell’s till noon, came on to the Huddle & got the Tribune & then returned home. Harvey hauled some wood. Luman & Mary went to meeting at Leroy in evening. She staid.
Tuesday, 8
Day fair and pleasant. Went up to the store and got the Tribune. The boys with Lawrence hauled some wood & recommenced making R.R. ties over the creek. Elon made a call. Munson Clark came in with him.
Wednesday, 9
Day principally cloudy. Went over to Bunyan’s & paid him $30.25 for sheep. Returned at night & attended with Mr. Sayles at J. H. Ross’ to do some township business in the evening. Boys made ties & Lawrence hauled two loads (30) to the Summit.
Thursday, 10
Day fair and quite cold. Went up to the store and got the Tribune, and in the afternoon chopped some fire wood. The boys worked at making ties, and Lawrence hauled two loads (30) to the Summit. Mr. Bunyan called.
Friday, 11
Day cloudy, cold & sleety. Went to the store & got the Tribune, chopped some wood, & in the evening attended meeting at the Centre to hear Br. Encill. Boys made ties. Lawrence hauled two loads (30) to the Summit.
Saturday, 12
Cloudy & warmer raining some. Went to the store for the Tribune & chopped some wood. went to Drake’s in the afternoon with wife. Azor & Eliza & Hiram & Juliet were there. Boys made ties in the forenoon. Lawrence Hauled two loads (30) to the Summit. Elon called.
Sunday, 13
Rained all night and through the forenoon, producing a flood in the streams. Afternoon fair. Did not attend meeting today on account of the storm. Br. Encill had an appointment at the Huddle this forenoon and evening.
Monday, 14
Rained in the night, and at intervals through the day. Rode to Troy with Luman & Harvey, calling at Luther’s on the way. We went to Azor’s at night, the boys returning and I remaining.
Tuesday, 15
Cloudy & colder. Went down to the village in the morning, from thence to the depot & on the cars to the Summit where I got the mail, & walked home. Luman hauled a load of barley to Troy. Harvey chopped wood at the house.
Wednesday, 16
Principal part of the day cloudy. Went up to the store in the afternoon and got the Tribune, and did nothing else of any account. Luman went to Troy again today with another load of barley. Harvey helped him with his steers as far as Uriah Baxter’s.
Thursday, 17
A considerable fall of sleet. Went up to the store and got the Tribune. Harvey and his uncle Harry butchered the bull. Luman assisted some. In the evening Elon and Percival and Ed. were here.
Friday, 18
Cloudy with very little sunshine. Did nothing of any consequence today Luman having brought the Tribune. The boys assisted in killing and dressing the geese(?) in order to send them to market. Harry called.
Saturday, 19
Cloudy & cold with a little snow. Went to the store for the Tribune, did some writing for Levi, & at night called there with Elon & others to certify a relation to the case of Sterling. Wife & Luman went to Troy with Drake & Amanda, & carried the geese(?) to market.
Sunday, 20
Continues cloudy and cold. Remained at home during the day. Towards night wife returned from Troy with Drake & Amanda, they having staid at Hiram Rockwell’s. Luman returned last night with Philander.
Monday, 21
Weather cloudy and cold. Remained about the house during the day, reading most of the time. Ed. brought me the Tribune. The boys chopped and hauled wood in the afternoon. Julius called and Heman came in.
Tuesday, 22
Cold cloudy weather continues. Went up to Heman’s who had a barn raising this afternoon. The boys hauled wood. In the evening Mary & John, Dan. Wilcox &, Lura, Erastus & Maryette, and Philander & Mary were here for a visit.
Wednesday, 23
Cloudy and cold. Went up to the store and got the Tribune. Spent balance of the day in the library. Luman having bought some ties of his uncle Harry, hauled one load (17) to the Summit. Ed. called.
Thursday, 24
Day cloudy and quite cold. Went with Luman to Troy it being the day for him to report to the Board of enrollment. He was exempted on acct. of his wounded knee. Rec’d. a fall in the morning which hurt me badly. Called at Azor’s on our return.
Friday, 25
Day a little more pleasant & mild. Wife & I rode with Azor & Eliza down to Smiley’s. Drake & Amanda were there. Feel some better today. Luman hauled a load of ties ( ) to the Summit, and Harvey a load ( ) yesterday.
Saturday, 26
Day fair & warmer. Rode with Valentine to Towanda & paid off my debt ($140.) to Mr. Montange & bot. & pail of White lead. Went home with Valentine, Wife Smiley & Lurenda being there. We staid all night. Continue to get better.
Sunday, 27
Partially cloudy and mild. After breakfast in the morning Smiley & Lurenda departed for home, and soon after, we came home with Valentine’s horse and buggy. Elon called in the afternoon & Ed. & Rod. Barns were here.
Monday, 28
Cloudy with sleet, rain & snow. Went down to the Corners and paid my note to Ed. of $30.84, & bargained with him for a black sheep. Harvey assisted Drake to butcher two young cattle. In the evening Jeff. & Ed, & Tommy were here.
Tuesday, 29
Cloudy & quite mild. Went up to Harrison Ross’ & paid him my note to Morrison’s Estate $57.90, & left $10.00 with L. D. Taylor to be paid to Mrs. Martin. Luman hauled a load of ties to R.R. 17 Elon called in the evening.
Wednesday, 30
Day fair and pleasant. Prepared some paint and finished priming the northeast chamber bedroom. Luman went to Troy with Ed. Harvey Hauled two loads ties to the Summit (29). Elon called & Julius was here in the evening.
Thursday, 31
Weather colder, day cloudy & snow storm in the afternoon. Went with Mr. Sayles down to Mr. Barnes’, and with him, we went out and reviewed a part of the route for a road from the Township line south of Ezra Bailey’s and terminating at or near said Barns’, changing the northern portion across Barnes’ land to a location a little farther west than the original. Returning proceeded to the Huddle to get the Tribune. The boys are not engaged in business to day.
