Sunday, 1
Day fair & extremely cold. Staid about home during the day with wife. Harvey went to Leroy to take Martha home. The Doctor & Amanda came over in the afternoon, & Valentine called. Eliza came home in the evening & returned.
Monday, 2
Day fair & weather continues very cold. Worked in the cellar keeping fire to keep out the frost. Luman went to the R.R. with load of Ties for Phillips & brought another from the woods. Abe got a load of straw from the barn. Harvey cut wood & attended to chores.
Tuesday, 3
Day fair & a little more moderate. Made & fitted in the door to the potato room in the cellar Luman hauled from home to the R.R. a load of Ties for Phillips in the forenoon & in the afternoon, with Harvey hauled up to the house some shingle butts. Erastus alled in the forenoon. Griffin at night.
Wednesday, 4
Cloudy & snowed some. Worked some in the cellar & went up to Taylor’s & traded a little. Bought 3 shoats of a hog peddlar, price $8. The boys hauled shingle timber & firewood. Luman went up to Bunyan’s towards night. In the evening Drake & Amanda came over & assisted in making sassauge. Griffin called.
Thursday, 5
Weather fair & continues very cold. Worked some in the cellar, posted accounts for Griffin, & at night went wife to Drake’s to help them make sassage. Luman went with team to haul logs for Phillips. He broke a sled there. S. K. Potter called in the forenoon. Ad. came & worked at shingles. Harvey did chores &c.
Friday, 6
Day fair & cold. Worked in the cellar as usual. Luman went to Troy & carried a grist to Long’s mill & brought it home. Harvey cut wood, attended to the chores, and worked a little in the cellar. In the evening Lura & Lutilda called & the girls came home.
Saturday, 7
Cloudy & quite rainy through the day. Clear in the evening & weather quite moderate. Did not work much today. Luman spent the day getting bobsled repaired. Br. Rockwell called in the afternoon. Ad. worked again today at shingles. Rec. letter from Rhoda Bailey.
Sunday, 8
Day cloudy & thaw continued through the day. Clear again at night. Remained about the house through the day. The Doctor & Amanda came over. Valentine & several others cam in & at night George & Lathan called. Luman went away with Lurenda.
Monday, 9
Day partially cloudy & weather warm. Did but little work. Went ,\ie, with wife & Mr. Bunyan, who had called here, over to Drake’s. The boys worked at sawing shingle timber over the creek. Valentine & Mr. Andrews the teacher staid with us overnight.
Tuesday, 10
Day clear & cloudy, & the weather continues warm. Sleighing spoiled & the fields begin to be bare. Worked a little in the cellar, putting up ceiling in the potato room. The boys worked the principal part of the day at sawing shingle timber over the creek. The hauled a load of Tan from Tannery.
Wednesday, 11
Day cloudy & rainy, weather continuing warm till towards night when it was a little cooler. Worked in the cellar, finished the ceiling of potato room & filled the space with tan. The boys worked over the creek at hunting & scoring(?) shingle timber. George called in the afternoon.
Thursday, 12
Forenoon cloudy with a light fall of snow. Afternoon fair & weather mild. Continued to work in the cellar. Luman got the horses shod in the forenoon & hauled logs for Phillips at the steam mill, in the afternoon. Harvey worked some at excavating in the cellar.
Friday, 13
Day fair & the weather moderate. Worked in the cellar. Finished the potato room & commenced a partition between the old & new cellars. In the evening wrote letters to Mr. Grow at Washington, & the Post Master at Summit. The boys hauled shingle botts. Valentine called in afternoon & Ed. in evening.
Saturday, 14
Fore part of the day fair, latter part cloudy & a little snow fell. Worked a little in the cellar. The boys worked over the creek at shingle timber. Went in the morning to the P.O. with my letters & a book sent to Rhoda Bailey. In the afternoon Amanda came, & towards night the Doctor.
Sunday, 15
Forenoon fair & cloudy in the afternoon. The weather continues mild. Kept about the house during the day. Solon Saxton & Silas Bunyan were here to Tea. Samuel Rockwell & Laythan Andrews with their wives made a call in the afternoon.
Monday, 16
Day partially cloudy & the weather continues quite moderate – Made & put in a door case between the north cellar & the passage. Luman went down to the steam mill & hauled in a few load for Phillips. Harvey worked some at excavating in the cellar.
Tuesday, 17
Froze some in the night & a slight fall of snow in the morning. Went with wife, the Doctor & Amanda & Mrs. Rockwell, to visit at John Bush’s The boys worked at threshing some rye that had been left in the bar & Ad. Bailey came again & worked at making shingles.
Wednesday, 18
Day partially cloudy & the weather considerably colder. Worked some at the partition in the cellar between the old & new ones. The boys finished threshing the rye & cleaned it up. Ad. came early in the morning & worked at the shingles till night.
Thursday, 19
Morning cloudy, balance of the day fair. Weather moderate for winter. Worked a little in the cellar in the forenoon, & in the afternoon went with wife down to Harry’s to attend Sybil’s wedding. Luman went to mill with some corn in the morning & attended the wedding in the afternoon.
Friday, 20
Day fair & pleasant. Weather mild. Went to the Huddle in the morning to attend the election & served as Inspector on the Board. Detained there till past midnight. The boys took half a ton of hay to Cornelius Sayles, & also spent some time at the election & at play.
Saturday, 21
The weather continues moderate & pleasant. Roads getting quite muddy. Went up to the Tannery & got some rod(?) leather, saw Bunyan there, &, returning called in at the Daguerriae Saloon. The boys sawed some shingle timber, hauled some wood, & brought grist from mill. Eliza returned.
Sunday, 22
Fair & pleasant, thawing through the day & freezing at night. Quite unwell with a cold. Staid about the house through the day. Family attended the meeting at the Huddle. Br. Rockwell called in the afternoon & Ed. came in. Some other young people called in the course of the day.
Monday, 23
The weather fair, mild & pleasant. Continue unwell, but some better than yesterday. Did no work & remained about the house. Harvey took Eliza over to her school in the morning & after his ???? Luman went with a load of shingles to the R.R. & sold to Miller.
Tuesday, 24
Mild pleasant weather continues. Cloudy towards night with south wind. Went with wife to the Huddle & had our ambrotypes taken, & in the afternoon we went over to the Doctor’s for a visit. The boys worked in the forenoon at shingle timber & in the afternoon they put cap(?) fences about the house & barn(?).
Wednesday, 25
The weather continues remarkably mild & pleasant for the time of year. Went up to the Huddle & obtained an ambrotype copy of Selenda’s picture in the forenoon. Do not feel able to do much work yet. The boys worked over the creek. Ad. made shingles at the house. Mr. Andrus called tonight.
Thursday, 26
Freezing night, fair morning, cloudy day & towards night snow commenced falling. Made an opening in the wall of the west cellar & put in a window. The boys worked sorked over the creek in the forenoon at shingle timber & in the afternoon they worked about the house. Mr. Bunyan called in the afternoon.
Friday, 27
Snow 5 or 6 inches deep, day partially cloudy & weather some colder. Worked some in the cellar at partition & door case. The boys hauled some wood in the forenoon. Harvey took two bushels buckwheat to the Ambrotype man & Luman went to Franklin after Lurenda but she did not come.
Saturday, 28
Principal portion of the day cloudy with cold southerly wind and some snow falling. Worked a little in the cellar & spent sometime with Hiram Stevens who called in the middle of the day. Luman hauled logs for Phillips at the Steam mill, & Harvey spent his time about the house & barn.
Sunday, 29
Day fair & pleasant & the being warmer the sleighing is nearly spoiled again. Remained about the house during the day, not going out farther than the pig pen. In the afternoon the Doctor and Amanda came over, & there were some youngsters in.
Monday, 30
Day cloudy with some rain in the afternoon. Worked in the cellar, digging some & laying the foundation walls for partitions. Mr. Richardson called & got some corn to pay for the pigs. The boys worked at various matters. Mr. Griffin called in the evening.
Tuesday, 31
Fore part of the day fair & towards night a Little snow fell. Weather colder. Continued my work in the cellar. The boys hauled up some shingle timber & then Luman went down to the Steam Mill & got a load of sample for our own use, & Harvey excavated some in the cellar.

Wednesday, 1
Very cold night, day fair & continued cold. Prepared foundation & put down the floor for another cell for potatoes in the cellar. In the evening posted accounts for Griffin. Luman took half ton hay up to Mr. Martin & then went to the Steam Mill to haul logs for Phillips. Elon called in the forenoon & after him George came.
Thursday, 2
Day partially cloudy with a little snow flying, & continues cold. Worked in the cellar at the north cell. Luman got the BobSled repaired & then went with the waggon to the Steam Mill & hauled a load of Ties to the R.R. for Phillips. Harvey worked in the afternoon for Percival at sawing ice on the mill pond.
Friday, 3
Weather cold, cloudy, & with some flurries of snow. Worked at the north cell in the cellar. Luman hauled a load of Ties for Phillips to the R.R. & brought down for him a load of flour, & brot up Lurenda at night. Eliza came home in company with Br. Gerould. Attended meeting in the evening at the Huddle.
Saturday, 4
Weather more mild, continues cloudy with flurries of snow. Went up to meeting(?) with Br. Gerould. Had ambrotype of self & wife for Amanda, Luman hauled logs for Phillips. Br. Wilson & other Brs. called. Spent the eve at home with the Dr. Br Gerould & Br. Williams(?) & his wife tarried with us.
Sunday, 5
Day cloudy, a little more snow & weather mild. Attended meeting with family in company with the Dr. and Amanda in the forenoon & in the evening he going with his team & sleigh. He & Amanda stopped with us a spell in the afternoon. After neeting Br. Gerould called & tarried again.
Monday, 6
Rained in the night & thawed through the day. Br. Gerould left in the morning for home. Harvey went with Eliza to her school. Boys did not do much & I did nothing. Br. Champnye & his wife came & made a visit. In the evening Elon made a call. Boys went to meeting.
Tuesday, 7
Day both clear & cloudy, & the weather growing some colder. Partially unwell to day, having no appetite to eat or disposition to work. Luman worked for Ad. & he worked here at shingles. Dave Sayles called in the forenoon, Harry in the afternoon & George towards night.
Wednesday, 8
Day fair, thawing some & freezing at night. Felt a little better than yesterday & went with wife over to Drake’s in the afternoon & staid in the evening. Drake called here in the forenoon. The boys worked some at shingle timber, & Harry Bailey worked here at making shingles.
Thursday, 9
Weather fair & warm, thawing considerable in the afternoon. Worked a very little at the north cell in the cellar. The boys worked some over the creek at shingle timber. Harvey worked here at making shingles. Edward called & spent the evening. High wind in the evening.
Friday, 10
Cold windy night. Day fair but continued cold & windy. Did a little more work at the north cell. The boys worked over the creek searching for, & sawing shingle stuff out of some old timber in the woods. Jeff. called & spent some time in the forenoon.
Saturday, 11
Day cloudy, weather a little more moderate & a very little snow fell. Worked a very little at the north cell. The boys hauled some wood, & attended to some other matters. Erastus called in & towards night the Doctor & Amanda called & took tea with us. Valentine came at bedtime & staid.
Sunday, 12
Weather fair & moderate, but not sufficiently warm to thaw much. Remained at home, Luman & Mary attended meeting at the Huddle. In the afternoon the Doctor & Amanda came over & staid till night. Elon towards night & went away in the evening.
Monday, 13
Day partially fair, evening rainy. Did but very little work. Continue quite unwell with a cold. The boys attended to several matters & in the afternoon Luman went up to the Depot with a load of shingles which he sold to Miller. Mr. Bunyan called towards night & on account of the rain he put up with us.
Tuesday, 14
Day cloudy & some colder. Worked a little at the north cell in the cellar & towards night went over to Drake’s & staid a part of the evening, calling at Elon’s on my return. Harry Brigham called in the course of the forenoon & in the evening Samuel Shepard called & staid over.
Wednesday, 15
Morning cloudy. Snow Storm commenced & continued through the day & evening. Did not feel able to work today. The boys hauled up a little shingle timber & gave some attention to various other matters. Harry Bailey came up & worked part of the day at making shingles.
Thursday, 16
Weather variable, clouds & sunshine, & a little more snow fell in the course of the day. Worked a little a cellar cupboard. Luman went in the afternoon & hauled up a load of Ties for Phillips. Mary(?) Brigham called at noon, & George came in, Valentine called towards night & Elon in the evening.
Friday, 17
Weather clear and cold — Did a little more at the cupboard in the cellar. Luman went with the team to the steam mill & hauled logs for Phillips & broke a sled again. Harvey cut some wood at the school house & did chores at home.
Saturday, 18
Day cloudy with another snow storm. Had a pain in my head which proceeded(?) from a tooth. Went over to the Doctor & had the tooth extracted. Luman hauled logs at the steam mill for Phillips. In the evening Elose & Edward came in. Received a line from G. F. Redington.
Sunday, 19
Day cold & blustering. Did not go out but kept about the house during the day. Silas Bunyan came in with Luman. In the afternoon Daniel(?) Euapp(?) came with Mrs. Taylor who had been absent some time, & in the evening the doctor & Amanda came and made a short stay.
Monday, 20
Day fair & more(?) moderate. Stephen and Fiche came & also Wm. Cross & Lura. We all went over to Dr. Drake’s. Champney & his wife & Luther & Sally also came there. At night Stephen & Fiche came home with us & staid. The Doctor & Amanda spent the evening with us. Luman hauled logs at the Steam mill for Phillips.
Tuesday, 21
Weather fair & warm. Nearly all the snow disappeared. Went with Stephen & Fiche up to Br. Champney’s for a visit there. The Doctor & Amanda came up & Sally came over, Luther having gone to Troy. Luman hauled logs for Phillips at the Steam mill.

Day cloudy & considerable portion of it rain, producing a considerable Freshit in the streams. Quite unwell today with headache & did no work. Luman attended the funeral of Mr. Arnout in the afternoon. Harvey employed with the chores & mending his boots & in the evening he attended a temperance be

Day fair cold & storming(?) in the evening, & the afternoon very windy – Worked an hour or two at the cellar cupboard. Luman, in the afternoon went up to the R.R. with part of a load of Ties for Mr. Phillips. Harvey tinkered about the house. Mr. Andrus called after school.
Friday, 24
Cloudy day, & a very little snow fell. Weather moderate. Finished the cellar cupboard except the doors. Luman sold a load of hay to his uncle Harry, & hauled a load down to his uncle Sam. Harry worked here part of the day at shingles. Valentine called at night. Lurenda came home with Luman. Elon came in.

Clear & cloudy with some flurries of snow & the weather colder. Worked a little at dupboard doors & went to the P.O. & got my mail matter. Had a letter from H. W. Tracy. The boys worked some over the creek at shingle timber. Eliza came home in the morning, having finished her school.
Sunday, 26
Day fair & weather moderate. Remained at home with family during the day. In the forenoon Valentine called, and in the afternoon the Doctor & Amanda came over. Silas Bunyan was here with Luman & Ed. Bailey came in. At night Luman & others tool Lurenda back to Franklin.
Monday, 27
Day fair & warm. Went up to the Tannery & got some Locks, to the store & got some butts & screws & made a call at the Picture Car. Finished & hung the cupboard doors in the cellar & put on the lock. The boys hauled some wood & shingle timber & went up to Sam. Rockwell & got 2 bushels of wheat.
Tuesday, 28
Fair & warm weather continues. Went to Troy in company with Luman, Eliza & Viletta. Called at Br. Shepard’s , but he had departed to New York. Called on Redington & some other s there. Got wheat ground at Long’s Mill. Harry Bailey worked here at shingles.
Wednesday, 29
Day fair & weather continues warm. Finished the cupboard & cased a doorway in the cellar, & posted some accounts for Griffin. Went down to Abe’s in the evening & over to Drake’s towards night. Luman hauled some Ties for Phillips out of the woods, & brot home a load at night.

Thursday, 1
Weather mild & pleasant. Rained in the night & morning. Made a door to open between the east & west cellars, hung it & put on the latch. Luman went up to the R.R. with a load of Ties for Phillips & found the road very bad on account of the frost coming out of the ground. Mr. called after school.
Friday, 2
Weather continues warm and pleasant. In the forenoon made a large box to smoke hams in. In the afternoon Mr. & Mrs. Bunyan with Mr. Wright & Anie came for a visit & the Dr. & Amanda came over. They all staid in the evening. The boys pur up some fence & Harry worked here part of day at shingles.
Saturday, 3
Day cloudy & rained some in the afternoon. Weather quite warm – Completed my apparatus for smoking meat & set it to work in the cellar. Made a drain to the well. The boys cut, & hauled some logs to the bank of the creek in Drake’s field for fence boards. Harry worked at shingles.
Sunday, 4
Windy night & high wind through the day. Weather fair & considerably cooler. Remained about the house through the day with wife & Harvey. Others of the family attended meeting at the Huddle in the forenoon & evening. Jefferson called in the afternoon.
Monday, 5
Froze some last night, day fair warm & pleasant. Finished the partition of the north cell in the cellar & made a picture frame for Eliza. The boys cut some more saw logs & run some down the creek into the mill pond. Br. Rockwell called in the afternoon.
Tuesday, 6
Day fair & pleasant & the weather continues warm. Cased the doorway to the north cell in the cellar & made a part of the bins. Paddy Lowe worked here at digging drains. The boys worked over the creek at cutting & hauling sawlogs.
Wednesday, 7
Heavy rain last night & high water in the streams. Day cloudy & weather mild. Finished the bins in the north cell & worked some at sorting & arranging potatoes. The boys worked over the creek at hauling sawlogs to the creek & floating them down into the millpond. Griffin called towards night & Sam in the afternoon.
Thursday, 8
Day fair till towards night, & warm. Sorted some potatoes, made a door for the south cell, wrote a letter to Br. Shepard, made clock shelf for Amanda, went over there & put it up, & hung her mirror. The boys sawed some logs for fence posts over the creek, Harvey split them & Luman hauled load Ties to R.R. for Phillips. Two paddies worked at drains.
Friday, 9
Partially cloudy, colder with flurries of snow. Hung the to the north cell, gravelled the bottom of the west cellar & commenced a door to open into the cellar hall. The boys sawed some ???? timber for fence posts, in the forenoon, & in the afternoon Harvey worked at splitting them & Luman commenced breaking upon the flat. Low day.

Principal part of the day cloudy & quite cold with flurries of snow. Finished & hung the door opening from the west cellar into the passage & did some other tinkering. Luman went to the steam mill & brought up a load of Ties for Phillips. Harvey cut wood at the door.
Sunday, 11
Froze hard last night, day partially fair & the weather became some wormer. Staid at home with wife & Harvey; others of the family attended meeting. Drake & Amanda came over in the afternoon.
Monday, 12
Day cloudy & afternoon cold and blustering. Went down to Mott’s shop in the morning & got a little work done. Worked some at repairing tools. Two paddies worked at digging. Luman went with Eliza to W. Burlington. Harvey split fence posts. Elon called in eve.
Tuesday, 13
Morning cold, day fair & warmer in the afternoon. Went over the creek in the afternoon with Harvey & got out a few sleepers. Luman a load of hau up to C. U. Sayles in the forenoon & in the afternoon went to his uncle Sam’s & & traded his watch with him for a horse. IN the evening Perceval & his wife came in.
Wednesday, 14
Freezing night, pleasant day but eve very warm. Went over the with Harvey & finished getting out the sleepers for the dining room & front hall & then took up the old floor there. Luman hauled the sleepers & several logs of dry pine up for firewood. Lowe & his man cam came on again to dig.
Thursday, 15
Day fair pleasant & warm. Worked some at putting in the sleepers for the Dining Room & front Hall. Luman Went to the R.R. with the load of Ties for Phillips & worked some at breaking up below the road. Harvey s;lit a few fence posts. Lowe & his man worked at the drains.
Friday, 16
Day remarably fair, warm & pleasant. Finished puting in the sleepers & commenced laying the Dining Room floor. Luman took some buckwheat to mill for Lowe & worked at breaking up below the road. Harvey split some posts. Lowe & Shehan dug. Valentine & Mr. Jennings called.
Saturday, 17
Pleasant weather continues, freezing a little nights. Worked a short time at the floor & sent the principal part of the day with visitors. Luman went with team & plowed for Loren. Lurenda came home with Benjamin Smiley & Mrs. Buruban(?) having concluded her school. Sam. also called.
Sunday, 18
Pleasant & warm again today. Remained about the house with the family. Amanda came over in the forenoon. Br. Champney & his wife in the afternoon, the Doctor towards night, & at night Valentine & some youngsters came in.
Monday, 19
Day warm & cloudy, & towards night a rain storm commenced. Went to Troy with Luman & the girls – Jack Drake being in company – took a grist to Long’s mill, called to see Br. Shepard, & bought some furniture of Mrs. Oliver for Eliza, a part of which we brought home. The paddies dug.
Tuesday, 20
Weather a little cooler & fair with the exception of some squalls of snow. Worked at the Dining Room floor & went in the afternoon over to Drake’s sugar works. Luman finished the plowing on the south hill that was left last fall & hauled some posts & boards for fence. Mrs. Taylor moved away. George & Jack called. Lowe & Shehan worked at drains.

Weather cold & blustering with flurries of snow. Worked some at the floor of Dining Room. The boys sawed & hauled some more shingle timber. Lowe & Shehan worked at the drains. Elon & Jack called in the afternoon. Received two papers from Br. Wells, & Luman one.
Thursday, 22
Weather continues cold & windy. Finished the Dining Room floor. The boys shelled some corn & took it to mill, took half a ton of hay to Jack Drake & got a str?? cutter of his, & at night Luman went up to Mr. Bunyan’s & got 2 bushels spring wheat & a turkey. Mr. Bunyan was here in the afternoon & several others called.

Day fair & more mild. Commenced to lay the floor in front Hall. Evening posted accounts for Griffin. Luman hauled load Ties for Phillips from Mill to R.R. Harvey employed about the house & barn – Lowe & Shehan worked at the drains. Harry & Add. worked at shingles. Jack & Letty here in the evening.

Weather cold with considerable wind & frequent flurries of snow – Finished the Hall floor to the stairway. Luman went with team to plow for Lowe. Harvey worked about the house & barn. In the evening Elon make a call.
Sunday, 25
The weather continues cold & rough. Remained at home with the family during the day. No company except several youngsters who cae in at different periods of the day. Luman went to meeting at the Windfall in the evening.
Monday, 26
Weather not quite as cold a for several preceeding days, but is quite unpleasent. Put up partition studs around the Dining Room, & arranged a temporary floor over it. Luman hauled a load of Ties for Phillips to the R.R. & went to Troy. Mr. B. Smiley called in the afternoon.
Tuesday, 27
Day fair & pleasant with cool air. Put on the facings to the cupboards in the Dining Room. At night went up to Br. Rockwell’s. Luman hauled a load of Ties for Phillips to the R.R. & helped Harvey saw some wood. Harry finished shaving the shingles. Lowe & Shehan worked at digging.
Wednesday, 28
Day fair with exception of a few flurries of snow. Weather moderate. Made & hung a cupboard door in the Dining Room. Luman went up to the Depot with a load of shingles & in the afternoon went up with a carriage & brought Br. Shepard down. Called with him at Julius’ & Elon’s at night. Lowe & Shehan completed 57 rods & 10 feet of drains.
Thursday, 29
Day fair & pleasant. Springlike weather. Called in the morning with Br. Shepard at George’s. In the afternoon Lurenda was married to Benjamin S. Smiley of Franklin, & Eliza to Mr. Azor S. Rockwell of Troy, by Br. Shepard. At night Harvey went with him to the Depot. Large company present.
Friday, 30
Dry pleasant weather continued. Went with wife to attend an entertainment given by Mr. Bingham Rockwell at West Burlington, calling, in the forenoon, at Mr. Stevens’. Azor & Eliza went over & remained. Luman & Miss Jennings also attended, Mr. S. & Lurenda remaining here.
Saturday, 31
Weather continues fair & grows warmer, with smoky air. Went with wife, in the forenoon over to Drake’s. Benjamin & Lurenda were there. After dinner they proceeded to Franklin & we returned home. Sold Elisha half a ton of hay & Jack a ton. Luman went to Steam Mill & brought up a load Ties.

Principal part of the day fair but cold thawing but little. Finished putting in the partition studs around the Dining Room & did some bridging. Wrote a line & enclosed a letter to Mrs. Taylor. Luman went up to the R.R. with load of Ties for Phillips & brot up another from the mill. John Bush was here in the forenoon.

A little more snow in the morning, day fair & warmer towards night. Commenced the door case between the Dining Room & Hall & in the afternoon attended at the Huddle to settle a matter in the Canton church. Luman hauled a load of Ties for Phillips to the R.R. & another from the mill. In the evening Elon called & George & Charles Stockwell came in.

Day partially cloudy & warm with rain in the evening. Spent the day with company. Luman went to the R.R. with load of Ties for Phillips, went to Martin’s & got some nails, & to the sawmill & got a load of fence boards. Smiley & Lurenda came in the morning & returned at night. Azor came at night & went over to Drake’s. Stockwell called, & so did Elon & Br. Rockwell.

Day fair till towards night, then cloudy & rained in the evening. Walked to Troy. Azor & Eliza went in his buggy. Luman went with team & took a load of Eliza’s goods & wife went along. Took dinner at Hiram’s. Went to village & got some crockery & more furniture for Eliza, saw them established in their new home, took supper with them, & wife & I came home with Luman.

Day tolerably fair but rather cool – Settled with Lowe & Shehan, made out a report of the case from Canton church, attendee on tuesday & spent some time with several visitors. Luman hauled a load of Ties for Phillips from mill to R.R. Br. Spalding of Alba called, Benjamin & Lurenda also came & made a short stay. Harvey worked some at making a new fence around the barn yards.

Day fair & moderately warm. Spent the day in circulating a remonstrance against the confirmation by the court of the report of viewers fro the erection of the new township of Alba. Took dinner with S. Stotenbier(?). The boys sowed & dragged in two bushels of spring wheat & hauled some fence boards.

Morning rainy & some thunder & hail in the afternoon. Spent the day about the house, not going out farther than the pigpen. George & Amy called in the afternoon & in the evening Elon came in. Several youngsters were here in the course of the evening.

Rained through the night & principal part of the day, producing high water in the streams. Put in the short stuck(?) & commenced casing the windows in the Dining Room. The boys shelled some corn & Luman hauled a load of Ties for Phillips from the mill. In the afternoon Calvin called.

Fair & dry. Put in the panel wo?? beads &c to the window case, went to the P.O. & got the papers. I read some. The boys hauled in two loads of hay & hauled some for Ed. Wife & Amanda went up to visit Eliza & returned at night. Ed., this afternoon, took away the sheep he had bought of me.

Fore part of the day fair. Clouds & high wind in the afternoon bringing a little rain. Not feeling very well did no work of any consequence. Luman cradled oats till it rained, & Harvey mowed some & put up a few cocks of hay.

Very heavy frost this morning. Day fair & pleasant. Remained at home during the day. Family at home also. In the afternoon Azor & Eliza came. Fanny Smiley & Miss Allen, their boarders came into the neighborhood with them. They staid till towards night & then returned.

Showers in the night attended with lightning & several showers in the course of the day. Colder at night. Made & put in the jambs to the doorcases of library. The boys picked up some apples below the road & hauled a load of boards for Phillips & John also a load.

Weather partially cloudy & not very warm. Worked a little at the library and attended the election in the afternoon. Mr. Bunyan returned with me & staid a short time. Luman hauled a half load, Harvey a load, & John a load of boards for Phillips. Orrin Westgate here at night.

Day fair & warm. Worked at the library & finished the grounding, leaving the principal part of the work to be done after plastering. Harvey went up to the R.R. with load of boards & then went to work with Luman & Parsons at picking & husking corn on the flat. In the our folks had an apple bee.

Day clear & cloudy with showers in the afternoon. Warm weather continues. Worked at the unfinished part of the front stairs & posted accounts for Griffin in the evening. The boys with Parsons worked at picking & husking corn, hauling corn up to the house, & hauling wood. Luman got a waggon tire sot in the morning.

Luman hauled a load of boards for Phillips. Harvey & Parsons worked at sorting corn in the chamber & in the afternoon they husked some on the flat.

Harvey & Parsons repaired brush fence over the creek in the forenoon, & picked & husked corn in the afternoon. Br. Wells went to Leroy.

Day cloudy, rainy & very dark. Worked some at the bookcase. The boys hauled up a load of corn & a load of lath from the steam mill, cleaned some buckwheat, made a crib, & repaired the pig pen. Drake brot a shoat to exchange for one of ours. Jack called, Br. Wells returned.

Day cloudy & cool. Worked at the book case. Luman hauled part of a load of whitewood & basswood lumber that we bought of Harry, & then hauled wood for Ad. Harvey & Parsons husked corn on the flat. Br. Wells went up to the Huddle in the afternoon. Wife went over to see Amanda who is sick.

Weather similar to that of yesterday. Business same as that of yesterday. The boys finished husking the corn on the flat & hauled up the last of it making 150 bu. of ears in all. They finished the crib & partly filled it with the poorer sort. Towards night Harvey hauled up a load of boards for Phillips.

Rainy night & heavy rain through the entire day & evening producing a great flood. Worked at the bookcase. Made & put in ten of the shelves. The boys sorted & arranged the corn in the chamber & the crib, thrashed some rye & attended to various in door matters. Br. Rogers called & staid.

The flats almost covered with water this morning. Day cloudy & some more rain. Much damage done by the flood to Mill dams bridges &c. Remained at home during the day with the family. Amanda rode over here in the middle of the day & walked home at night.

Rainbow in the morning. Middle of the day fair & cloudy again in the afternoon. Finished putting shelves into the book case & spent sometime with Mr. Bunyan who called & also a German stranger. Br. Wells worked at lathing the library. The boys worked at husking corn above the orchard.

Day cloudy except part of the afternoon. Had a little more rain. Weather continues warm. Put the facing on the bookcase. Br. Wells worked at lathing in the library & northeast room. Luman & Parsons hauled two loads of sand from Luther’s & Harvey worked at repairing fences on the flat that were damaged by the flood.

Warm cloudy day with a little rain. Wind continues in the south. Went to Troy with wife & Amanda, broke the waggon on the way & had to repair. Took firkin of butter to Pomeroy $12.60, bought a few articles of Ballard & went to Azor’s & staid all night. The boys dug potatoes.

Froze some last night. Day fair & cool. Put on the shelves & finished the chimney pieces. Harvey carried some potatoes into the cellar & did several other small jobs. Luman returned from Sullivan co. at night. Br. Wells gathered the last of the apples from the upper orchard. Elon called in the morning & in the evening.

Rained a little before dawn. Day cloudy with a little sleet falling in the afternoon. Worked a little at lathing the ceiling of the northeast room & attended the presidential election. Luman hauled up a load of boards from steam mill for our use & Harvey another to be taken to the R.R. for Phillips. George & Amy called in evening.

Rained all the past night & during the entire day, causing high water in the streams again. Prepared some stories & laid the bottom of the eastern chimney. The boys assisted me some, did some business at the blacksmith’s, & attended to chores.

Rain continued to fall during the night, and moderately through the day, with no indications of immediate fair weather. I intended to have gone to meeting with Br. Wells at Leroy. But on account of the rain we concluded to stay at home.

Day cloudy & without rain. At night some signs of fair weather again. Prepared a place north of the house & made a mortarbed. The boys with the team worked on the road till in the afternoon Harvey went to the R.R. with load of boards for Phillips. Mr. Bunyan called.

Day cloudy till towards night, then clear & pleasant. Completed the mortar bed & placed the lime box & in the afternoon went over the creek to cut some poles and crotches to make a shelter over it. Luman went to Canton & got 30 bu. lime. Harvey helped Drake at threshing. Br. Wells attended the teacher’s examination.

Mr. Stone assisted. I took dinner with him. Br. Wells has not returned from Bunyan’s. S. A. Rockwell called in the evening & took assessment.

Another fair & pleasant day. Worked at dressing stones for the fireplaces. The boys hauled the corn from above the orchard into the barn to husk it there. The also hauled some potatoes off the flat to the cellar, & some poles &c, for shelter for mortarbed. Parsons worked on our acccount for Mr. Martin.

Day cloudy & cold, similar to yesterday. A slight snow fell last night which did not thaw during the day. Remained at home through the day & had no company except that Ed. called two or three times in the course of the day, & Lathan Andrews came in towards night.

Snow commenced falling in the morning & continues moderately through the day. Finished the stone work of the chimney & commenced the brick part at the chamber floor. Day clear, cloudy stormy cold & blustering. Did but little today besides keeping fire & attending to the hogs. Luman hauled up to the R.R. the load of boards he had on the waggon & took Drake’s team home. Harvey hauled up two loads that were left on the way.

Day fair & very cold, especially at the close. Worked some in the forenoon at slitting up some plank for doors. At night walked up to Azor’s & finding the doors locked, got in at a window. Luman went to the steam mill & settled with Phillips. Mrs. Merry came to visit us.

Rained through the night and rained through the day. Worked at dressing stuff for doors & layed out some for framing. Luman went down to the Steam mill & got a load of edgings & some things out of the store. Harvey husked some corn in the barn.

Day partially cloudy & weather mild. Worked part of the day at framing doors & in the evening assisted in settling Mr. Griffin account with Alfred Leonard. The boys commenced making R.R. ties over in Drake’s woods – They buy the timber of him at 5 cents a piece. They made 18 today.

Morning & forepart of the day rainy. At night the weather colder. Finished & filled in the door between the northeast room & dining room. The boys husked some corn, went to mill, & attended to some other matters. Smiley came up with Lurenda, & after dinner he returned & left her to visit a few days. Loren Leonard called.

The weather continues about the same as it was yesterday except that it is some colder. Worked a little on a door for the closet in the north east room. The boys, with Sterling to help, made 30 ties. Luman bought 2 calves of Collins. Heman & Charles Ross made a call. Ad. came & got 4 bu. buckwheat.

Weather continues cold & fair. Worked a spell in the morning & finished the closet door. Azor & Eliza cam & Smiley with his brother Thomas & his wife. We all went to Drake’s & spent the day. The boys & Sterling made 30 ties. Collins brought the calves. Griffin here in the evening.

Day partially fair & weather moderately cold. Made panels, finished, fitted, and hung the door between the north east room & library. The boys with Sterling worked at ties – sawing, trimming, & hauling them out to the road near the tannery. Broke a bobsled & had to quit hauling before night.

Day cloudy & cold. Hung two doors & put the latches on to them, besides chopping wood for fires. The boys & Sterling worked at the tie business making some in the woods, hauling out some, & taking 16 to the R.R. Amanda here in the afternoon & Leander at night.

Weather cloudy & cold through the day. Made a door for the cupboard over the fireplace in the northeast room. Hung to door & finished the cupboard. Luman worked at ties alone & Harvey hauled two loads to the R.R. making fifty in all. They have about 80 more made.
