The "Merchanse, Pieripont" in your transcription is a misreading of "Moarhouse [sic], Pieripont"--who is none other than my ancestor, Pierpont Morehouse. The creative reading of the surname has given me an idea for where to look for him in the 1810 NY census index--so far, he has not been found!
