The following list is part of the Tioga County Cemetery Inscriptions, reprinted with permission of Rhoda ENGLISH Ladd.
Typical of an incident which may have happened to many, years ago, was the one related by Ralph CLARK of Knoxville.
On a spot, east of the Ralph CLARK farmhouse, on the DOAN road, once stood a house, occupied by the Charles CONNELL Family.
Shortly before 1872, members of the family were wiped out by an epidemic.
As they died, they were buried on the farm, in shallow graves. Because of the shallow graves, the land was not titled for some time.
In 1872, the farm was sold at a sheriff's sale for $28.00
