Lockwood is on N.Y. Route 34 about halfway between Waverly and VanEtten.
Turn West at the fire station onto Lockwood Run Road (now called Main Street)
and take the first left onto Church Street. After going over the little
bridge, immediately take a right turn up a dirt lane and follow it into
the cemetery. The cemetery is not visible from below. From what I have
been able to determine, Rows 1-7 are in Barton Township, Tioga Co.,
N.Y. and Rows 8-15 are in Chemung Township. Chemung Co., N.Y. All rows
were read from North to South, subjectively calling the first row on the
East, Row 1, and the last row on the West, Row 15.
[If you ever want to change the wording on the site to make it simpler:
"Turn West at the fire station onto Lockwood Run Road (now called Main
Street)" should really read "Turn West at the fire station on to Main Street."
(There is a street sign)]
Names of people who appear to be still living have been removed.
Any questions or transcriptions can be rechecked by request to Marcia Jankowski
(marjonpc@aol.com). I also have available a Plot map (probably from
1888?), kindly provided by Bill Hotchkiss, Superintendent of the Town of
Barton, for the old area of the cemetery in Barton Township, which is how
the county boundaries were determined. I don’t know if the boundaries have
changed since that time. Lot holders were as follows:
VanEtten, Geo. Thomas, ? Thomas, Campbell, ?. Fleming, Asa Williams,
R. Johnson, Green, Gordon, Hagadorn, Wright, A.T. Barden, Huldah Wilson,
B. Cornell , W. S. Barrows, Peter Miller, V. Waling, W. Ackley, D. Miller,
