Other comments: Many stones in the old sections have no inscriptions. On many of the older stones the inscriptions can not be read, I could only take a calculated guess. The cemetery is well kept. Caretaker does a great job

Surveyor Mark McCullough, left, shows members of the Wyalusing Borough Council a drawing Monday night outlining the proposed expansion of the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery. Land Donation Increases Size of Wyalusing Cemetery - by David Keeler - 4/10/2008 Wyalusing Rocket
Thanks to a generous donation by Wyalusing resident Kay Homer in memory of her parents, John R. and Amelia Welles, the Wyalusing Cemetery will become significantly larger.
At Monday night's meeting of the Wyalusing Borough Council, surveyor Mark McCullough showed councilmembers a drawing he had prepared of the donated land and the existing cemetery.
McCullough said the current cemetery encompasses 6.15 acres, and Homer's donation of 2.63 acres would increase it to 8.78 acres, about 42 percent larger than the current cemetery.
The donated land includes rights of way for a power line and underground water line, which runs from the Susquehanna River to the Cargill plant in Wyalusing Township, McCullough noted.
Before the land transfer becomes official, McCullough said the Bradford County Planning Commission must approve it and he did not anticipate any problems with that. The Wyalusing Township Supervisors have given their verbal approval of the cemetery expansion.
The Wyalusing Cemetery is said to have been founded by General John Sullivan during the Revolutionary War when he buried some of his fallen soldiers at the site.
