Gafford School 1917

District No. 7

Sullivan Township, Tioga County PA

Gafford School District in the southeast corner of Sullivan Township is mostly "on the mountian," Armenia Mountain that is. It borders Ward Township to the south in Tioga County  which once was part of Sullivan Township, and Armenia Township in Bradford County. The township always was sparsely populated and is even moreso in the present time. It is still all dirt roads.

It is a little known fact that the remains of the Gafford School were moved down "off the mountain" and attached to the State Road Baptist Church where it remains to this day.
Map is from the 1875 Tioga County Atlas
Secton of State Road Baptist Church near back with
two windows is the remnant of the Gafford School.
