Mansfield High School Graduates 1979
1960 view of Mansfield High School. Front section , formerly the gym - converted to auditorium, was built about 1927 attached to the old Brick School. In 1939, the Brick School was torn down and the new school built surrounding the central gym. The 1939 section  on left became the Junior High School in the fall of 1959, and the High School is the new part on the right.

HAGAR, JOANNE M.- A pillar of strength, battled cancer 20 years, passed away peacefully with her brothers present, on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley Beaver at the age of 57. Joanne was born in Wellsboro, PA on March 30, 1961, one of three children to the late Fordyce and Theresa (Sullivan) Hagar. Joanne was a 1979 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School then attended Mansfield University graduating with dual degree of Chemistry and Biology in 1985. Joanne taught chemistry and biology at St. Mary's High School in PA. Her quest for learning continued with graduate work at Gannon University and the obtaining of her PA Certification as a Physician's Assistant. In 1992, she made her home in Moon Township and began working for Dr. E.A. Ruberg's Private Practice from 2000- present. She was a member of The Sharon Community Presbyterian Church and the BPW of West Hills. She was active with People Who Run Downtown, ran in the Chicago Marathon and the Wine Glass Marathon in Hammondsport, NY. Among her accomplishments, she was also a winter sports instructor at Seven Springs for many years and a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for the children of Allegheny County.  Joanne also enjoyed knitting, sewing and quilting. Joanne is survived by her two loving, supportive brothers, Larry Hakes of Alamosa, CO and John M. Hagar of Midland, TX; along with many loving cousins. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Joanne's life on Friday, November 9th at 2:00 p.m., at Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, 522 Carnot Rd., Moon Township, PA 15108. In lieu of flowers, in honor of this strong woman, her brothers suggest donations be made in her name to Sharon Community Presbyterian Church or in gratitude for her wonderful care to Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley Beaver, 4th floor, Tower B, 1000 Dutch Ridge Rd. KLINE - NEAL, PATSY E.
     Age 33, of Mansfield, Tuesday evening at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.  She was the wife of James R. Neal.  Patsy was born on June 23, 1961 in Troy, PA, a daughter of Arthur E. and Donna M. (Cross) Kline of Mainesburg, PA.  She had been a waitress and a cook for the Farmer in the Dell in Mansfield, PA.  Mrs. Neal is survived by her husband, James R. Neal, a daughter, Crystal L. Neal, and a son, Jeremy R. Neal, both at home.  She is also survived by her parents, a brother Ricky L. Kline and his fiancee, Julie Grippen, of Mainesburg, a sister, Stacey A. Calkins and her husband, Garry, of Mansfield, a maternal great grandmother, Celesta Malory, of Portage WI, a maternal grandmother, Ione Rude of South St. Paul, MN, a paternal grandmother, Dorothy E. Kline of Mansfield, PA, two step grandmothers, Sarah Pfeifer of Mansfield, PA, and Betty Cross, of Wellsboro, PA.  Additional survivors include 4 nephews, a niece, her mother and father-in-law, Ruth R. and Homer F. Neal of Mansfield, and a brother-in-law, John L. Neal of Mansfield.  Friends are invited to call at the Scureman Funeral Home, Inc. 130 S. Main St., Mansfield from 7 to 9 PM on Friday, March 3, 1995.  Services are being held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 4, 1995 at 2:00 PM, officiating will be the Rev. Rod Murray pastor of Church of the New Covenant.  Interment will be in State Road Cemetery, Mainesburg.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Jeremy and Crystal Neal Educational Trust Fund c/o First Citizens National Bank, 15 Main St., Mansfield, PA 16933.

NANCE Steven Paul
Born July 13, 1961, died July 8, 2007. Steven was a retired Chief Petty Officer, HTC DV/SW, U.S. Navy. He was Facility Manager of the United States Special Operations Command Parachute Training and Testing Facility in Marana, Arizona. Steven spent his childhood in Pennsylvania until enlisting in the U.S. Navy and proceeded to serve a stellar career for 21 years. His accomplishments include 2nd class diver, 1st class diver, saturation diver and military freefall jumper. Upon retirement, Steven moved to Arizona to assume a civilian job continuing his love of the military. He was an amazing individual who could illuminate the room with his presence and once you were fortunate enough to have crossed his path, you were touched with a joyous and wondrous love. To say he will be greatly missed is an understatement. His devotion to his friends and family knew no boundaries and we will miss him every single day of our lives. Steven will be remembered for his love, humor, charm, intellect, devotion, passion, honor, friendship, candor, strength and compassion to all who knew him. Steven is survived by his wife, Ann (Roth) Nance; children, Shane Ryan Nance, Chelsey Nance and Derek Nance; mother, Mabelle Nance; brothers, George, Bruce II and Kenneth; sister, Patricia Nance Oakes; and dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and great aunt, Freda. He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce "Nick" Nance in 2005; and his brother, Vincent in 1972. Family and friends will be received at Freeberg Funeral Home, 120 N. Williamson Rd., Blossburg, Wednesday, July 18th, 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., with funeral services being held at 8 p.m. with Rev. Raymond Forsythe officiating. Family and friends are also invited to the home of Bruce and Mary Nance II, 49 Bullock Rd., Mansfield, during the day Wednesday, and for a reception following the funeral service.   Published in the Star-Gazette on 7/16/2007.  

SARGENT Geoffrey James "Jeff" Sargent

51, of Mansfield, died on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro.  Born on Oct. 27, 1960, in Binghamton, N.Y., Jeff was the son of Frank Sargent, Jr. and Eleanor (Hine) Sargent.  Jeff was self-employed as a contractor. In recent years Jeff enjoyed working in his woodshop where he handcrafted many things for family and friends. Jeff was an avid outdoorsman at heart. Jeff was a skilled hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.  Jeff is survived by his mother, Eleanor Sargent of Mansfield; a daughter, Megan Elizabeth Sargent of Tunkannock; two brothers and sister-in-law, Frank Sargent, III and Barbara Sargent of Mansfield, Kim Sargent of Blossburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Mark Campbell of Morris Run; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Sargent, Jr., and a brother, Dale Sargent in 1965.  In keeping with Jeff's wishes, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made in Jeff's memory to the Mansfield Firemans Ambulance Association, 381 South Main St., Mansfield, Pa. 16933. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S.
