AUSTIN, L. Leona - Millerton, PA - L. Leona Sempler age 85 passed away Thur. Feb. 14, 2019 following declining health while residing at Absolut Care at Three Rivers. Born on Apr. 11, 1933 in Elmira, Leona was the daughter of the late, Lloyd & Margaret Hager Austin. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul L. Sempler in 1985 following 30 years of marriage. A homemaker, Leona enjoyed crafts, ceramics, sewing, visiting, and traveling with friends. She was a devoted member of the Jackson Center United Methodist Church. Surviving is her loving family, children, Edward (Christine) Sempler, Millerton, PA; Susan (Tom) Shafer, Pine City; and Paulette Almond, Leesburg, VA; 6 grandchildren, Matthew Paul Almond, Joshua Stephen Almond, Edward Paul Sempler, Travis Lee (Stacey) Sempler, Chelsea (Joshua) Uhler, and Michael Paul (Dillon) Shafer; 5 great grandchildren, Tucker, Tristan, DJ, Victoria, and Juliet. A sister, Caroline Miller, Horseheads; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was predeceased by brothers, Lyle and Dale Austin. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Mon. Feb. 18, 2019 between the hours of 11 a.m. – 12 noon. John William "Jack" Cady of Mansfield, PA peacefully went to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 29, 2015 after an extended illness. Jack was born October 28, 1934 in Mansfield, the son of Hugh and Martha (Budnick) Cady. He had just recently celebrated his 80th birthday. Jack graduated from Mansfield Schools where he was an excellent basketball player. He later played semi-pro ball with the Ravens team, who were active at that time. He loved basketball and in later years, remained in the sport by becoming a basketball referee. He also loved and taught himself to play guitar. It was music and a loving family that helped soothe him during his long illness. Jack owned and operated Cady's Men's and Boy's Shop in Mansfield and Westfield for 29 years. He had also served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the period of the Korean Conflict and was a proud veteran.Jack was an excellent athlete. In 2005 he was inducted into the Tioga County Sports Hall of Fame. He loved golf and was a 50 year member of the Corey Creek Golf Course. He earned numerous awards for his golfing ability. He was also a former President of the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce and was an active manager of the Little League and MARA. Jack was married to the love of his life, the former Diane Hufnagel, for 55 years. He is survived by Diane, a daughter, Sherri (Roger) Stager of Mansfield, PA; a son Jon Mark (Melanie) of Pittsburgh, PA; 4 grandchildren: Zachary Stager and Jonathan Stager of Mansfield; Justin Cady (Michelle) of Pittsburgh, and Monica Herman (Ryan) of Pittsburgh; a sister, Alice Kelly of Mt. Dora, FLA, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Philip Cady and a sister, Marilyn Kemp. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 2, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral chapel with Rev. Allen Goss officiating. Burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield, PA. RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN
Richard H. Chamberlain 56, of Mansfield, PA died Thursday, February 28, 1991 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. He was born November 19, 1934 in Sullivan Township, the son of Harold and Eloise Smith Chamberlain. He was a member of the Bakersburg Community Church and the Tioga County Gideons for 20 years. He was a real estate broker for Endless Mountains Realtors and A. I. Technician for Sire Power, Inc. and was a retired dairy farmer. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Phyllis Kennedy Chamberlain; sons, Michael R. of Denver, CO and Donald H. of Mansfield, PA; daughter, Judy Lynn Beckwith of Waukesha, WI; three grandchildren; parents, Harold and Eloise Chamberlain of Mansfield; sisters, Carol VanOrden of Bellefonte, PA, Ann Gisitch of New Fairfield, CT; mother and father-in-law, Gertrude and Donald Kennedy of Mansfield. Funeral services were held at the Scureman Funeral Home in Mansfield on March 3 with the Rev. Ernest Brodie officiating and burial to be in State Road Cemetery, Mainesburg, PA. Crippen,  Ada  - Ada C. DeGeus, age 77 of Ann Arbor, MI, who spent most of her life living in Middletown, NY, died on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, after a difficult struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Ada was born on June 28, 1934 in East Smithfield, PA, to Rev. Orey and Martha Frost Crippen. Ada was an active member of the Middletown community. She was an dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church (now the United Presbyterian Church), where she loved volunteering with the Kids First, afterschool program. She served on the Salvation Army Board and enjoyed many years with Kiwanis. She was proud of her career as the Executive Director of Orange County Community College Alumni Association. Under her direction the Alumni Association earned several Outstanding Alumni Awards for excellence and innovation from the Confederation of Alumni Associations. In 2003 she was elected to the SUNY Council for University Affairs and Development Hall of Fame. She loved the college and had many friends there. She is survived by her two children, Tim (Lori) DeGeus of Raleigh, NC and Beth (Dale) Titus of Brighton, MI and three grandchildren: Ashley, Kristin and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Phyllis Faulkner. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 20th at 11 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Orchard St., Middletown NY.

HARRINGTON Wayne F. Harrington

79, of Wellsboro, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.   He was the husband of the late Barbara Martin whom he married on Sept. 24, 1955. Wayne was born on July 16, 1933 in Wellsboro, the son of the late Walter and Claire Lockwood Harrington.   He graduated from Mansfield High School. Wayne was employed for 25 years at Dresser Manufacturing in Wellsboro until the plant closed. He was also a lifelong member of the NRA.  Surviving are his son, Mark Harrington of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kimberly and Michael Pierce of Wellsboro, Sarah and Christopher Antienowicz of Middleburg, Fla., John Harringto of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren, Kelly, Rayann, Nicole, Emily and Jordan Pierce, Travis and Cheyanne Antienowicz; several nephews and one niece; one uncle, Glen Harrington of Elmira, N.Y. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife and parents. In addition, he was preceded by his daughter, Martina A. Giese, on Monday, Feb. 11.   Friends and family are invited to Wayne's Life Celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Tussey- Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 139 Main St., Wellsboro. Memorial Service will follow at funeral home at 7 p.m., with Darwin J. Cranmer, officiating. LAPP, David C. – David C. Lapp, age 83, passed away at home on Thursday, April 19, 2018 after an extended illness. David was born in New Rochelle NY the only child of the late Edwin and Margaret Safford Lapp. David is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Geraldine "Gerry" Townsend Lapp; daughters, Cynthia J. Schroth with children, Justin, Valerie and Jesse; Deborah A. Yodice with daughters, Ashley and Nicole; Pamela J. Burrell with Daniel Goodwin and her children, Jason and Stephanie, all of Horseheads; 14 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his great grandson Ethan Burrell. David had a 42 year career with the Horseheads School District. He taught at the elementary and junior high levels and finished his career as a librarian at Junior High West/Middle School. David's greatest joy was the time he spent with family. He especially enjoyed the family camping trips. Dave was always a hard worker. When he and Gerry were starting their family, David not only taught school but he also worked at a liquor store and gas station. Later in his career David would spend his summers painting houses or doing construction work. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. David enjoyed playing cards and loved to work in his yard. Age 75, of Mansfield, PA, died on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at his home. Ronald was born on August 23, 1934 in Mansfield, the son of Floyd and Lucile (Howe) Moore. He was married for 57 years to Eleanor (Kendrick) Moore. A self-employed truck driver for 40 years, Ronald worked for AETNA Freight lines, Milton Transportation and retired from Tonowanda Tank after 10 years. Following his retirement, he drove for EMTA. He was a US Navy veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Ronald enjoyed gardening, flowers and reading. In addition to his wife, Eleanor, Ronald is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Russell "Rusty" and Laurie Moore of Stafford, VA; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Terry VanOrden of Mansfield, PA; a son-in-law, David Mitchell of Mansfield, PA; five grandchildren: Christin, Amy, Ryan, Wesley, Samantha, and five great grandchildren: Eleanor, Andrew, Mackenzi, Ashley and Lacey. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ronda Mitchell on July 24, 2009 and a sister, Kaye Brown on July 29, 2009. Kenneth Rodgers Vance ..........MHS 1952
Mr. & Mrs. Edward Bradshaw of Lawrenceville entertained at a party to announce the engagement of their only daughter, Marjorie Lou to Kenneth Rodgers Vance, son of Mr. & Mrs. Lyle Vance of Mainesburg, PA. 32 friends and relatives attended. Miss Bradshaw attended the Williamson Jr.-Sr. High School and is now employed by the Commonwealth Telephone Co. at Mansfield. Mr. Vance graduated from the Mansfield Senior High School, spent 2 years in the army, 18 months of which were spent overseas.

ZENGER, Donna J. - Donna J. Peffer, 83, of Mansfield, PA, passed away April 12, 2018, at Troy Community Hospital. She was born September 1, 1934, in Blossburg, PA, the daughter of Foster & Louise Rodgers Zenger. Donna was a retired Mansfield Borough Secretary, and a member of the Roseville Independent Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jay, a son & daughter-in-law, Ronald & Holly Peffer of Derrick City, PA, a brother & sister-in-law, Carl & Phyllis Zenger of Lockport, NY, 5 grandchildren, a nephew, David (Susan) Zenger, 2 nieces, Julie (Jon) Hain, & Diane (Jeff) Kovacs. Friends are invited to call at the Wilston Funeral Home & Cremation Service 130 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA, Saturday, April 21st, 11 AM – 1 PM.
