Some things never change. College students overspend and write home for money. This 1908 card is from Bessie, to her mother Mrs. Snyder of Sheshequin. Dear Mother, am dead broke again. Send some cash on the night express, Bese. Everthing fine at the City. Have found out more about the summer playgrounds. (How encouraged Mrs. Snyder must have been by this. Since Bese's name does not show on the graduation M.S.N.S. lists, perhaps she did more playing than studying. )Actually, I also have a postcard to Mildred Snyder of Sheshequin from the young man she spent the 4th of July with, dated Oct. 1908. He is a student at the Business College (Allen Business College), rather than the Normal, so perhaps she was, too. We do not have graduation lists available from that institution to track her down with. . |
