Captain John H. Doane – Mansfield Soldier who has returned to
civilian life after 16 months in the army. Dr. Doane enlisted in
the Medical Officers’ Reserve Corps soon after the United States entered
the war. In September he was ordered to Fort Oglethrope, Georgia,
with the rank of lieutenant. He was promoted to captain several months
ago. In December he was married to Miss Gertrude Allen, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Allen, and after a short honeymoon they went to Fort
Oglethrope. Last week Captain Doane received his honorable discharge
and with Mrs. Doane arrived in Mansfield Monday to make their home.
