YOUNG ELMIRAN STRONG FOR ARMY
A letter has been received by Emmanuel Adams,
employed at the County Farm at Breesport, from his son Earl
J. Adams, who is a corporal in the 58th Motor Truck Company,
U. S. Army stationed at Brownsville, Texas, in which he says he is delighted
with the army. Young Adams is 18 years old and has been in the service
one year. During that time he has been promoted twice and now hold[s]
the rank of corporal.
Following is the letter:
"Brownsville, Texas,
March 23, 1917.
"Dad The army is sure some place for
a young chap like me. I am sure glad I am in and did not wait until
later. Lots to eat a good place to sleep and a little money coming
in all the time so I should[n¹t] worry about hard times on the outside.
"If you are in Elmira, I wish you would take
this letter up to the man who enlisted me at the postoffice and show him
what I think of the U. S. army, and tell him I did not have to wait four
years to be made corporal.
"Also tell him I sure like it, and it is just
as he said it was. His name is Mr. Frazer and also Mr. Alesessor,
and be sure to tell them to write to me as my address is the same as always.
"CORPORAL E.J. ADAMS,
"Brownsville, Texas,
"58th Motor Truck Company."
