Stephen S. Beach was commissioned
second lieutenant, as aeroplane and balloon observer, in the air service
at Arcadia California on September 20. He has been in intensive training
for the last nine months, completing two ground school and flying courses
at the U.S. Balloon School at Omaha, Neb., and at the U.S. School of Military

Arcadia, California. He hopes to be sent to France.
Lieut. Stephen Beach experience in service
I have been requested to tell a little of my experience while
in the service.
In the late part of December 1917, I was ordered to camp at Fort
Omaha, Neb. There I completed a course of instruction in the
Balloon Ground School and started taking balloon flights. After
flying for about two weeks I and a few other cadets were chosen to attend
aeroplane ground school, and were sent to the U. S. School of Military
Aeronautics at the Ohio State University, Columbus. O. (Clipping ends here.)
Stephen Beach
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Beach and one of the boys
who have answered the call to colors. He will probably be one of
those who will be coming home soon.
