Corporal Howard B. Connelly

Corporal Connelly is among those soldiers selected because of higher educational qualifications, to attend the University of Paris.

 Corporal Howard B. Connelly, of Mansfield, formerly a attached to Headquarters Troop of the Seventy-ninth Division, has been detached from the command and is attending college at the university of Paris.  He was a former student at  State College and his selection from the division is in accordance with the policy of the United States to aid young men whose college courses were interrupted to complete their education.


Corporal Howard Connelly
Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Connelly of Mainesburg.  He is in Headquarters Troop, 79th Division.  He has been in France for some time.  He has been traveling from place to place and has seen much of the country.  He writes that he is in excellent health.

Howard Connelly, of Mainesburg Who Recently Arrived Overseas, Writes to his Parents Of Things He has Seen in France.

 Mr. and Mrs. Howard Connelly, of Mainesburg, have received a letter from their son Howard, who is with Headquarters Troop, 79th Division in France.   He us a graduate of Mainesburg Normal, class of 1913, and was among the first to be called for service.  He writes very interestingly of things over there and says he’s done much traveling since landing.  He says he does his own laundry work now, and though he may not get the clothes very clean, it helps a little.  The letter follows… Note: the column ends here.

 1.  Howard B.1 Connelly,  son of Walter L. Connelly and Margaret A. Jones, (#3683) was born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 05 APR 1893.  Individual flags: WW1.  Howard died 1957 at age 64.  His body was interred 1957 in State Road Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.

 He married Adella S. Sindlinger.  (Adella S. Sindlinger is #3684.)  Della was born 26 FEB 1893 Sebring, Liberty Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Della was the daughter of Simon Sindlinger* and Christina Roupp*.  Della died 12 NOV 1978 in Troy, Troy Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, at age 85.  Her body was interred NOV 1978 in State Road Cemetery, Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.  Howard and Della adopted three children: Elrena, Helen, and Joyce. They lived on the Gray homestead property in Gray Valley, the house behind which Parthenia WHITE and James GRAY are buried.

      Howard B. Connelly and Adella S. Sindlinger had the following children:

      2  i.  Elrena2 Connelly (#28119).  She married Edmund Wolfe*.  (Edmund Wolfe* is #28122.)  Elrena and Edmund ran Wolfe's Poultry on the road between Milan and East Smithfield PA. They raise chicken and sell eggs. This is a very large operation with many employees.
      3  ii.  Helen Connelly (#28120).  She married Charles Giddings*.  (Charles Giddings* is #28123.)  Charles is/was of Harrisburg PA.
      4  iii.  Joyce Connelly (#28121).  She married Dale Robbins*.  (Dale Robbins* is #28127.)  Dale is/was of Canton PA
