In Letter dated July 31, 1965 from Mildred J. Welty to James I. Welty, pp. 1-2, "We have Jacob's birth date as Oct. 26, 1812 from monument in Presho cemetery. His date of death was not on it but from the deed to the house Hovey bought, his death date was Jan. 25, 1900."
 

Later notes, however, state, "Jacob Welty born Oct. 26, 1812 died Dec. 1899 - 87 yrs. old."
