Notes for AARON STROUSE:

Aaron Strouse has always been a mystery. He was thirteen when his Father died. At the age of twenty one, he married Sarah Ann Rice. Sarah was only fifteen years old. It has been said that Aaron and Sarah had four children, yet only two can be accounted for. After ten years of marriage, Aaron filed for divorce. The actual decree has never been found. His son, Harry, never forgave him for leaving and refused to communicate with him. Aaron later married Helen Hancock, of Waverly, New York. Helen suffered from severe mania and died on 13 June 1897 in the Binghamton State Hospital. Following her death, Aaron traveled west. He settled in Adams, Paha, Washington, where he met and married Mary Dibble, a widow, on October 9, 1903. Aaron died on 4 April, 1913 of chronic intestinal nephritis. Following his death, his wife, Mary wrote a letter to Harry Strouse, his son, offering to send him his Father's rifle, if he would send her the postage. It appears that Aaron's early life was not always a happy one. While we will never know the reasons why he left Sarah, he was never forgiven. He died, never reconciling with his son.

Yet, his final wish was for that son to have his gun. Apparently, he never lost track of that son, and never stopped caring. I hope that his final years were happy ones.

iii. BENJAMIN STROUSE, b. 1858, Southport, Chemung, NY; d. 16 January 1872, Elmira Chemung, NY.

iv. LEVI STROUSE, b. January 1855, Southport, Chemung, NY.
