Elias Baity, 90 died May 1, 1948, at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
William Cady, in Richmond Township. A son of Elias and Betsy Frost Baity,
he was born July 21, 1857, in Frost settlement, Sullivan Township. Dec.
27, 1877, he married Miss Alice A. Whitaker. He had lived for 63 years
on the farm on which she died. He was a member of the Elk Run Grange and
Dairyman's League. To those who knew Mr. Baity knew that his clean living
and fine standing speak for themselves and his high standing in the community.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Cady; sons, Ralph, of Covington, and Earl,
of Street, Md., seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the
Shaw & Robena Funeral home, the Rev. William A. Joel officiating. Burial
in Prospect Cemetery. His body was interred MAY 1948 in Prospect Cemetery,
Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.

BAITY - Ralph B. Baity, aged 69 years, of Covington a former Tioga County Commissioner, died at his home Wednesday evening, July 21 [1948], about 10 o’clock. He had just returned from the Blossburg Hospital where he received treatments. At the time of his death Mr. Baity had been serving as Chief Assessor for Tioga county. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mabel E. Crowe Baity, one son, Fred Baity of Covington, and one grandson, Richard Baity, one brother, Earl, of Street, Md., sister, Mrs. Maude Cady, of Mansfield RD, three step children, Mrs. Katherine Love, of Mansfield, Mrs. Betty Campman of Covington, and Ira Crowe of Towanda. Ralph B. Baity, Ralph B. Baity, 69, former Tioga County Commissioner That, died Wednesday, July 21, 1948, at his home in Covington. He had medication at the Blossburg State hospital and had just returned home apparently much improved. A son of Elias and Alice Whitaker Baity, he was born in Charleston Township, Dec. 4, 1879. He attended the Township school And Mansfield State Normal School. He served to terms as Tioga County Commissioner, from 1924 to 1932, and at the time of his death was chief assessor of Tioga County, serving the second four-year term. A prominent farmer, he was active in farmer's organizations. He was its past master of North Elk RunGrange, past noble grand of Covington Lodge Of Odd Fellows and had served as an elder of the Covington Church of Christ and as chairman of the church board. While serving as County Commissioner Mr. Baity won the confidence in friendship of the public through his fairness in sympathetic interest in those who were indeed Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mabel Crowe Baity, son Freal, of Covington; grandson; brother, Earl of Maryland; sister, Mrs. William Cady, of Covington, and three step children, Mrs. Kathryn Love, of Mansfield; Mrs. Betty Campman, of Covington, and Ira Crowe, of Covington; several nieces and nephews. Baity, 56, at the home of her son, Fred in Covington, following a stroke of unconsciousness a few hours earlier in the waiting room of a Covington physician. She had been in ill health for about three years. Funeral services at the Covington Church of Christ Monday conducted by Rev. Maltman preceded burial in Mansfield Cemetery. Rebekahs had charge on interment services at the Prospect Cemetery in Mansfield. Rev. Kaufman, acting pastor of Covington Church of Christ, and Rev. Walter Brown, Wellsboro Church of Christ, assisted Rev. Maltman in the funeral service. Flower bearers were Mrs. Ford, Mrs. Carson, Mrs. Sampson, Mrs. Shaw, Miss Wilson and Mrs. Cleveland. Mansfield—Announcement has been made of the marriage
of Miss Esther Stiger of Hepburnville, Pa., to Kenneth E. Cady, son of
Mr. and Mrs. William Cady of Mansfield. The ceremony was performed Oct.
28 in the Fourth St. Methodist Church, Williamsport, by the Rev. A. Lawrence
Miller. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. George Milliner of Williamsport.
Mrs. Cady is a graduate of the Mansfield State Teachers College and teaches
in Roaring Branch. Mr. Cady is a graduate of the Mansfield Senior High
School and is employed in the Chevrolet Garage. (handwritten on article

Esther was the daughter of Walter Stiger* and Effie Estella Mosteller*.
Esther died 26 DEC 2007 in Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age
94. CADY, Esther Lucille Stiger Age 94, of Mansfield, PA, passed
away December 26, 2007 at Carleton Senior Care, Wellsboro, PA. She was
born February 26, 1913 on the family farm in Hepburnville, PA, the daughter
of Walter & Effie Estella Mosteller Stiger. Their home also served
as the Post Office and general store, and at an early age Esther learned
to read and write by sorting and delivering mail. She attended the Hepburnville
School and Presbyterian Church, graduated from Williamsport High School
in 1932 and Mansfield State Teachers College in 1936 with a B.S. degree
in primary and secondary education. She taught in a one room school in
Warrensville until 1940 and retired from teaching at R.B. Walter Elementary
School in Tioga, PA. Esther married Kenneth Cady of Mansfield in 1938,
moving there in 1940 to raise her family and care for her father. Esther
was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church, the Mansfield Literary
Club, the Garden Club and the Audubon Society. Esther was an avid reader,
botanist and bird watcher. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law,
Dr. William and Bonnie Cady of Athens, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda
and Frederick Metarko of Wellsboro, PA; seven grandchildren, Lisa (David)
Hutchinson of Reading, MA, Michael (Beth) Metarko of Allentown, PA, Christopher
(Beth) Cady of Pittsburgh, PA, Stephen (Amy) Cady of Scottsdale, AZ, Ellen
(Charles) Miller of Athens, PA, Barbara (Doug) Richard of Ocala, FL, Richard
(Sharon) Lowery of Athens, PA; and 11 great-grandchildren. Esther was predeceased
by her husband, Kenneth in 1988; and a brother, Paul Stiger. Friends are
invites to call at the Gary Wilston Funeral Home & Cremation Service,
130 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA, Sunday, 1-4 p.m. Funeral services will
be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, Mansfield, with

Feb. 2, 1911, in Jobs Corners, he was the son of William R. and Maude Baity
Cady. He was a member of the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce. He owned and
operated Cady's Mens Stores in Westfield and Mansfield from 1953 until
retiring in 1976. Preceding him in death was his wife of 54 years, Martha
Budnick Cady, on Sept. 20, 1986, and grandson, Alan Cady, on Aug. 22, 1978.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip D. and Shirley Cady
of Lemont and John and Diane Cady of Mansfield; two daughters, Marilyn
Kemp of Mount Pleasant Gap and Alice Kelly of Mount Dora, Fla.; six grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Magor of Oakmont; several
nieces and nephews; special friends and care-givers, Richard and Susan
Roe of Mansfield. Friends may call at the Scureman Funeral Home, 130 S.
Main St., Mansfield, on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 7 pm to 9 pm. Services
will be held there on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 11 am with the Rev. Ira Hindman
officiating. Burial will be made in Prospect Cemetery, Mansfield. Flowers

Association or to Mansfield University Foundation Adult Basic Education
