Poem on page for December 11, 1876:

A wish for a friend Is often given My wish for you Is a home in heaven

1. 1 David C. Edgeton [SRGP 14886] - 1795-1875, buried Ames Hill Cemetery

2. 2 Blacksmith and gunsmith, William Robbins, was frequently called Billie.

3. 3 Sarah WILSON, sister of Mary and her husband Wilson HALL

4. 4 My father, born 1921, says that some of the old people when he was a child used shilling for quarter (25 cents). They also still used the word farthing.

5. 5 Hobby Austin is the only one of this name I am aware of.

6. 6 Probably Reuben Squires, nephew of Lafe, and brother of Net SQUIRES Smith, niece of Lafe and wife of Will Harrison Smith.

7. 7 Clark Burton, son of Daniel Burton and Eliza Sweet. Mr. Burton may refer to Daniel, although she refers to Daniel as uncle later in the diary.

8. 8 This is the same person as on Feb 12. Looks like phose, could be jhose .

9. 9 Possibly Clinton Mudge whom she mentions another time in the diary and who Lafe mentions in his.

10. 10 I have not heard of Palmer Hill in the present era, but if I have read this correctly this is what it said with it spelled the way the Sullivan Township Palmers pronounced their name even into the early part of this century. That is as Parmer.

11. 11 This is the third time I have seen this name and it still appears to be phose although I do not recognize who it might be. Possibly Tryphosa - surname unknown - who later married Clinton Reynolds.

12. 12 Isabella, niece of Lafe was married to A.M. Morrison. If the name was Alonzo then Lonso would the short name for that. They lived just down the hill from where Alvah Gray and Caroline McConnel lived. Only the lilac bush remains the house having burned when my father was young. This is just south of the bridge on the Elk Run road; just north of the road where my parents live.

13. 13 Eunice SQUIRES was married first to Thomas HULSLANDER and moved to Nebraska with others of the neighborhood families. She returned after Thomas' death in the Civil War and married Bradford Edgeton.

14. 14 Lafe's diary of the same day indicates that this is Clinton Reynolds.

15. 15 Wilse is apparently Wilson Hall, husband of Mary's sister Sarah (Sate or Satey)

16. 16 Could be jhose for josie?? Possibly Josephine SQUIRES d. of George SQUIRES and Mary Jane SMITH b. 1861.

17. 17 cookies

18. 18 This refers to Mainesburg, called by many, 'the burg.'

19. 19 See Daniel Burton 1873 diary

20. 20 Assumedly Clark Burton, son of Daniel.
