Cynthia Melissa Fuller , March 1, 1850- March 20, 1923, dau. of William James Fuller and Cynthia M. Graves Fuller, Ridgebury, PA. Chattie later married a Mr. Brown.

JAN. 1: Today came home from Grandma’s about noon. Worked on my Purple Dress, and helped Ma about the House putting down carpet & c, in the evening did some ironing and reading our new paper awhile about the death of Ex Sec Stanton

JAN 2: Home all day, got up rather late this morning breakfasted about 10 oclock read nearly all day in my Bible, and in a Book entitled, "Beyond the Mississippi" all about the Mormons at Salt Lake City. It has rained quiet hard all day, with cold blustering winds, it snowed this evening.

JAN. 3: Went to School and got along with my lessons first rate, except my Written Arithmetic, that is hard for me to understand, I learned today that the Moon is 240,000 miles from the earth. Came home, help get supper washed the dishes & sewed the Buttons on my Calico Dress & did part of the ironing.

JAN. 4: Went to School today did two pages in Arithmetic beside the rest of my studies, came home and found Aunt Maria & Elmer here and before we had finished eating Supper Aunt Add came, Hiram is here also. Him and P.A. went up to Mr. L. Stevens after Lizzie she is here now, heard that Mr. Potter is not expected to live.

JAN. 5: Aunt Add, Hiram, & Millie started to take the cars for Mansfield this morning & P.A. went to take Lizzie Dougherty to her School, Went to School and studied hard all day after I came home Aunt Hattie came here & she said her Wedding was to be a week from to night, This eve finished my dress waist, it is most eleven now.

JAN. 6: Went to School as usual, Ma went up to Mrs. Ferris’s with Mrs. Coffins & Mrs. Herman, I came home after School got supper help wash dishes & swept; Burg was here for supper, Pa went up after Ma she came home looking very sad & after inquiring, I found she had good cause for it, It was this Uncle Henry was crazy & they had taken him to Breesport to the County House.

JAN. 7: Had lots of troubles with my examples today but soon conquered them. Amelia(?) Larrison was to school, in the afternoon lot of the girls & boys went up to Independent School went home got supper mixed bread & got ready & went up to Aunt Hattie’s to stay the night.

JAN. 8: Today I am at Grandma’s working on my Dress & got it almost finished, said til evening & Aunt Hattie came home with me to stay all night I do not feel very well tonight my cough wears on my Lungs & makes them feel very sore & painful.

JAN. 9: This Lord’s Day am at home after Breakfast Hiram Dewey, Lady & youngest Daughter came here & staid all day, Hatt and I did up our hair & then went down to Aunt Julia’s there we found Uncle Henry after Aunt Julia & so Aunt Hatt went home with them.

JAN. 10: Went to School again ciphered some recited in Mental Arithmetic read in Government Class Book spelt in the Union Speller, recited in Geography and Grammar came home and after supper finished my Dress at last so that I can wear it.

JAN. 11: To school again, studied hard all day, Ma went up to Grandma’s to help cook for the wedding (tomorrow) that is to be she came home before I got the supper ready washed up the dishes studied my lessons and got ready to retire. found --- in the road.

JAN 12: Today went to the wedding, there were Mr.Fanning & Lady, Mrs.Brees, Mr. Griffith & Lady, Uncle Wesley & family, Uncle David & family, Uncle Will & family, Aunt Lib, Mr. & Mrs. Ferris, Grandma and our folks. Mr. Fanning gave the Bride a set of Silver Teaspoons. We had a very nice supper everything was pleasant.

JAN. 13: Today was at School’ Armelia and I had lots of fun over her troubles but we got all our lessons good after I came home and had some sport with Papa as usual studied my Geography lesson then fixed for bed.

JAN. 14:Went to school as usual learned my lessons, in the Grammar Class corrected several difficult sentences a Mr.Carry was at the school-house today noon to see Mr. Halstead came home and after supper Mr. John W. Brown came here to stay all night.

JAN. 15: At home all day helped get Breakfast swept and straightened the rooms below made my bed, pared a couple pails of apples, and one of potatoes patched my waist received a letter from Charlie This evening Grandma & Julia came her & is to stay all night,

JAN.16: Julia & Grandma is here today, Charlie Perham was here also and we had quiet a visit together in the evening thought I would write to Charlie but could find no pen Aunt Sarah Uncle David Emma & Stella came here from meeting Burg was here a while and said Phine was not well

JAN. 17:Been to School as usual studied hard all day, came home with a dull head-ache help gat supper studied my Geography lesson help wash fixed my dress wrote a letter to Charlie and went to bed between 11 & 12 oclock

JAN. 18:At School all day again this evening I heard that Aaron’s little child is dead how sad he and Nan must feel, helped wash dishes did up a lot of ironing. crocheted some and studied my Geography lesson and tried to cipher some

JAN. 19: Started to School and P.J., Adelaide & Eunice came along & asked me to ride with them & I did Mr. Henry our County Superintendent visited our school in the afternoon Ma and Pa went to the funeral Grandma is here tonight.

JAN. 20:Today went to school Pa went up with me and staid all the forenoon Mr. Halstead thought we were blessed with company this week came home at night intending to go to meeting but Grandma was here and Pa wouldn’t take us and so I staid at home

JAN. 21: This morning before I went to School Phine came here & I was too late to school She went down to Mrs. Wans’s staid all night in preference to staying with her sister, Ma & Pa went up to Mrs. Ferris’s to a visiting party, I sat up waiting for them until twelve oclock.

JAN. 22: Was at home all day, help do up my Saturday’s work, Phine was here all the afternoon, I gathered my Purple dress skirt all over again, Pa went to Pennyville to meet the Directors and when he came home brought me a letter from Aunt Hatt she says the talk is that Jim Doty and Hubert Jones are about to trade sisters.

JAN. 23: At home today, Burg & Phine are here all day, and are to stay all night. Ma and Pa are fixed up and went off to meeting through the rain. Wrote a letter to Aunt Hatt got supper by the time our folks reached home, after supper helped washed dishes Went to bed at 9 oclock

JAN.24: Will Draper came to school and called for Armelia. I heard that he and Mary Ann Kenyon is to be married day after tomorrow Phine went home today Pa went with her & has not reached home yet came home got supper went up to Mrs. Seeleys studied my Geography lesson for tomorrow

JAN. 25: This morning Mr.Boiley came after Pa and Ma to see Phine for she was taken sick, Pa came back in the afternoon & says Phine has a little girl, Heard Fred Henry is dead staid at home worked all day, Mr.Nivison is here to stay to night

JAN. 26: Mr.Nivison was here to breakfast got breakfast washed the dishes swept and fed the chickens got ready and went to school have got as far as interest in my Arithmetic Saw the funeral procession pass on the way to Wellsburg Burg was here for supper tonight he says Phine is real smart, got a Geography lesson

JAN. 27: Got breakfast, washed dishes, made beds went to school Dellie Stevens was there, had a good visit with her, came home got supper, went to meeting and heard Br.Ward preach, Mr.Ferris is sick with fever, received a letter from cousin Emma & also one from Stella Jones, She says Rev.Vincent is married to L…C…

JAN. 28: Went to school, at noon heard that Uncle Henry Havens was dead he died in a fit, Mr.Halstead had a spelling school this evening and we all went up, Nora Hammond spelt us all down the first time and second time I spelt them down, came home and went to bed after 10 oclock

JAN. 29: Charlie’s birthday today. Today got up and got breakfast, Gusta washed the dishes I did out a washing baked Bread pies and cake also some biscuit for supper and had first rate luck with it all, Gusta did the mopping for me, I washed the supper dishes, and we did part of the ironing in the evening

JAN. 30: I was at home, washed the dishes, made beds,swept, P.A. went over after Mother to Phines, they came back just after I got the table cleared, He took Mag over to stay in Ma’s place, washed up the dishes, then went down to Aunt Julia’s a little while Uncle Wesley came down and I went up with him

JAN.31: Went to school as usual at noon Alice, Armelia, Nora and Cynthia wrote a verse in my Memoranda came home help get supper and wash dishes ciphered some, Heard that Nellie Seltz was married to a Mr.Wm. Hill 30 years of age and she 17

FEB 1: There was no school to day so I staid at home did the washing and mopping cut and fitted my dress waist and almost made it, made the sleeves, pared some apples to stew and made some cookies for dinners tomorrow studied my Geography and fixed for bed.

FEB. 2:I went to school, came home found the house alone Ma & Pa had gone up to Mr.Larrison’s to meeting and did not get back until most to 10 oclock, I had to get supper wash the dishes and do the ironing and see to baking the bread

FEB. 3: Went to school as usual swept the floor at noon and just as I finished sweeping one of the girls handed me a letter from Libbie Robbins they took it out of the office for me came home and in the evening had a invitation to go to Phines spelling school but went to prayer meeting instead

FEB. 4:

Went to school came home at night and Pa told about a death of a little girl over near South Creek she had just got through eating and she asked her mother for a drink of water she gave it to her and before she took a swallow of it she died

FEB. 5: Went to stay all night with Hatt Allen last night set up till 12 oclock came home in the morning made cake and pies and in the afternoon Aunt Hatt and Miss Mosier came here I went up to meeting with them in the evening and heard Elder Ward preach went home with Aunt Hatt to stay all night

FEB. 6: Aunt Hatt, P.A., and I went up to Uncle David’s and while we were there a Butterfly came out of the egg that hung up by the door ate supper and went up on South Dirgie to hear Elder Ward preach reached home about 10oclock

FEB 7: Today went to school, at noon Armelia Larrison and I went up to the Center to Grandma’s, Aunt Maria’s and to the Parsonage to see how Mr.Ferris was he is getting better. School was called when we got back, went home got supper helped wash dishes and helped do the washing Ma & Pa went over to Phines today.

FEB. 8: There was no school today because Mr. Halstead had to attend a town meeting in York State, It was very cold, It had snowed all day and is now over a foot deep sewed some on my dress and helped do the work around the house, My finger pains me so I am afraid I shall have a Felon

FEB. 9:Went to school came home fixed myself and P.A. and I went up as far as Mrs.Larrison’s, stopped there and waited until they got ready and then Armelia made up with us and we had lots of fun traveling through snow drifts, received a letter from Charlie tonight

FEB. 10:Today at school as usual came home helped get supper, went over to Mrs.Stevens to take some butter over there, helped do the ironing, got my Geography lesson and cracked some hickory nuts and picked them out.

FEB. 11: Today was at school all day did not feel much like studying but of course had to, came home Mr.Halstead took supper with us I washed up the dishes then P.A. and Ammelia and I went up to South Creek to meeting again and had a first rate time, the wind blew a perfect hurricane

FEB. 12:Ma & Pa went over to Phines today I went up to Grandma’s and found Clayton there, Hatt and I went up to Mrs.Ferris’s a few minutes and then came back and before she got supper ready Hubert Jones and P.A. came up and we had quiet a visit Hatt and Clayton were here to stay all night

FEB. 13: This morning after breakfast Ma Aunt Hatt P.A. and I went up to Grandma’s and soon after we got there Aunt Julia & her family came and then Sam Cook came there. We all took supper with Uncle Wesley’s family then P.A. Clayton & Hatt and I went up on South Durgy to meeting

FEB. 14:

Finished my calico dress. Went to school came home washed up the dishes and Clayton & Aunt Hatt came down here and P.A. and I went down to Aunt Julia’s with them Gusta also, we took supper with them, Hatt and I washed the dishes and then came up home and went to bed at eleven

FEB. 15: Went to school and Hatt and Clayton went as far as the school house with me or I with them after school I went up to Grandma’s and then we came down to Spelling school in the evening. I went home with Aunt Hatt and staid all night with her

FEB. 16: Today the public money runs out, but the district hires Mr.Halstead another month Mr. & Mrs.Brown and Rosa was here today, came home from school with a headache nevertheless I had to go to work and help get supper and do some ironing

FEB. 17: Rec’ed a letter from Ivy and Vine. Went to school as usual studied all day and came home with the headache, had been home but a few minutes when Mr. & Mrs.Jones came here, I had not seen them in more than a year, we had a good visit in the evening, they will stay here tonight.

FEB. 18:It rained this morning and I staid at home and visited with Mr.& Mrs.Jones. they are going to stay again tonight, helped do up the work and commenced a collar for Mrs.Jones

FEB. 19:Mr. and Mrs.Jones started for home this morning I sent some hickory nut and apples to Stella and Hubert, I helped do up the Saturday’s work and washed five Handkerchiefs two pairs of cuffs and two collars starched and ironed them, in the evening heard that Lizzie Walling was dead

FEB. 20: After breakfast it was so pleasant P.A. Gusta and I took the colts and cutter and went over to Phines, It was the first time I saw her babe she has named it Edith, when we came back it snowed hard all the way

FEB. 21:Today had to go to school through the deep snow. It has been very cold all day. After school eat supper and help wash the dishes.In the evening cut out my Chemise. so Ma could cut her collar out and almost finished crocheting Mrs.Jones collar. I hope she will like it.

FEB. 22: Went to school, P.A. gave me a lot of candy came home and made supper washed up the dishes cracked some Hickory nuts, I rode up to school today with Pa They have a dance to Mr.Tubbs tonight.

FEB. 23: To school again. It has been very cold all day After school came home and Ma had supper already after supper made two beds wiped dishes did two examples that I could not work at school. Heard that Charlie Hanlon’s mother is very sick, and not expected to live

FEB. 24:Got up early this morning, and made two beds, and combed my hair before breakfast, helped get breakfast went to school came home helped get supper help wash up the dishes and did some ironing in the evening.

FEB. 25: This morning before I could go to school I had to wait until 10 oclock to help Ma get ready to go over to Aunt Hatts avisiting PA Gusta and I has to stay alone tonight after school had to get supper and feed the chickens in the evening read a piece in Uncle Will’s paper.

FEB. 26: Was at home all day. Washed up the dishes made the beds and did up the Saturday’s work, washed and combed up my hair then cut and pieced a block for a quilt of double T’s Ma and Pa came home tonight they stopped at Mrs.Jones on their way

FEB. 27: Staid at Home this blessed Sabbath day there is no meeting here. I wish there were some good one’s to go to. I have written three letters today. One to Ira and Lavina one to Emma and one to Charlie. I wonder which answer I shall get first. P.A. went over to Phines today says she is out doors now.

FEB. 28: I took three letters to the Office this noon. I went to school as usual the scholars all said they were going to whip me tomorrow. Made two beds before going to school, came home and after supper washed up the dishes sewed on my chemise went to bed at nine o’clock Jud Voorhis gave Armelia and I a button

MAR. 1: My birthday. I am twenty today. The scholars did not attempt to whip me today afterall. This morning it was very pleasant but the afternoon was quite cold and cloudy this evening it is snowing quite glibly. I help get supper and did up the dishes and went down to Aunt Julia’s on an errand.

MAR. 2: This morning after getting ready for school, help do up the work, went to school and read in the class book ciphered studied mental arithmetic lesson spelt – swept the floor at noon. Passed. Have boarders this week. In the evening Mr.G.L.Payne came here and staid all night,- sat up until twelve.

MAR. 3:This morning Elder Payne left us to go home. I went to school today and had considerable sport with Armelia, got partly ready to go over to Aunt Hatt’s and Mr. Jones’es tomorrow, in the evening we had prayer meeting here there were ten persons present this evening. Retired between 10 and 11.

MAR. 4: This morning got ready to go to Aunt Hatt’s on a visit in the forenoon and about three o’clock in the afternoon P.A. came for me to go, we went as far as Mr.Jones’es people and after supper Stella and James Doty and I went to an exhibition, Stopped to Albis(?) on our way back. I staid with Stella all night.

MAR. 5: Staid to Mrs. Jones’es until after breakfast and then P.A. and I went over to Uncle Charlie’s to stay all day and all night in the afternoon P.A. and Uncle Charly went down to the Center after Aunt Hatt’s trunk, Uncle Charly brought Hatt and I some Almonds & Hazelnuts: went at 9 to bed

MAR. 6: At Smithfield This morning was to Aunt Hatt’s, we got up quite early and after we had breakfasted P.A. and I went to meeting to the Disciple Church staid to Sabbath School, I rode with Mr.Jones’es people and Stella rode with P.A. we took tea with them and came home after having a good visit all around. Mrs. Jones gave me a splendid lace collar

MAR. 7: After breakfast Pa took P.A. Gusta and I up to school, there were 20 scholars and no teachers, we waited until nearly eleven and then rode home with Mr.Woodruff, I went to work and did the washing for Ma, and then worked on my chemise in the afternoon and evening. Retired at 9

MAR. 8: Ma and Pa went over to Phines. Aaron and Nan was here to dinner. Sarah V. and Alice H. was here to see me a little while, I wonder if Sarah feels any better towards me now, Heard Mr.Halstead’s wife and child were sick was the reason we had no school. It commences again tomorrow, P.A. Gusta and I went up to Mr.Dean’s this evening

MAR. 9: Ma was sick so I could not go to school today got breakfast washed dishes, made beds swept the house took up the clothes off the snow rinsed them and hung them up. Helped get dinner washed the dishes swept, did the mopping finished Aunt Hatt’s collar, commenced some insertion for a fine chemise. Got supper and in the evening made pies and also some cookies for our dinners at school. It has been a very pleasant day yet rather cold. Retired at ten

MAR.10: Did up the work before I went to school and, Ma went down to Aunt Julia’s to stay. Armelia Larrison came home with me from school. Ma had just got home and was just kindling fire for supper. After supper we all (except Ma and Gusta) went up to meeting Armelia staid with me tonight

MAR. 11: Went to school Armelia went with me at noon Alice Nora and Flora drew cuts to see who would sweep the school-house Nora got the longest twice but see would not sweep at all Alice had it to do came home helped get supper in the evening worked on my chemise until quite late

MAR. 12: Was at home all day after helping do up the work I sat down and made the trimming as a part of it for my chemise patched my dress helped get supper and swept up the house made my bed swept in the front room kindled a fire in there to sew by

MAR.13: We did not get up until quite late I read eight chapters in my Bible and after supper wrote two letters one to Aunt Hatt and Uncle Charly and one to Libbie Robbins. While writing heard of the death of Mahala Burt. she died in fits last night.

MAR. 14: Aunt Maria Andrus birthday. Pa went up to Laurel Hill school, this morning Ma went as far as Grandma’s and at noon Pa came back and he and Ma went to Mr.Burts to Mahala’s funeral, We rode up to school with our folks. I swept the school-house today noon crochet some this eve. Retired at ten.

MAR. 15:Went to school. Armelia and I talks of staying with Mrs.Ferris tomorrow night. After school went to the Office but did not get a letter as I expected. Went to Aunt Maria’s and took supper. Staid down to meeting alone there were twelve to meeting besides the children. Came home . Retired at ten.

MAR. 16: It was very stormy today until three oclock. The snow is about four feet in depth. There was no school on account of the snow. I helped wash the dishes. Made my bed swept. Straightened up the rooms. Finished my chemise. Washed the supper dishes and Gusta and I knit races in the evening.

MAR. 17:Storming yet today. No school again. I made my bed after breakfast and help do up the work.Went to work and did the washing (Ma and I did it) and I did the mopping. Pa and P.A. went up to Centerville and Grandma came down to make us a visit. I read to her during the evening. Am not feeling well today.

MAR. 18: It has been a beautiful day over head. I heard today that Mrs.Zena Baldwin is very sick. I rinsed the clothes to hang out, swept and made a bed washed dishes did part of the ironing. Knit on Pa’s sock. Grandma is here yet. This day is Hubert’s birthday, how I would like to whip him.

MAR. 19: This morning washed the dishes and swept. Made my bed. Combed my hair and then went down to Aunt Julia’s and help her get ready to come up here. She and her family and Grandma were here today. Washed up the supper dishes. Ma was taken very sick this afternoon with sore throat and pain in her side. She is worse now.

MAR.20: Ma is no better except the pain in her side and head her face is swollen very badly, she has the Erysipelas in her face also. I did up the work, and have waited on her as well as I knew how. Got supper and washed dishes. Mrs.Stevens, Mary-Ann and Delphine Arneigh have been in to see her today. Burge was here today.

MAR. 21: Today was my first day in school of teaching in the Dewey school, Pa took me to school, and came for me at night. Ma was very sick yet but I was obliged to go against my will. I had six scholars on account of the weather. Found Grandma at our house when I reached home. Pa sent after the Doctor but he did not come.

MAR. 22: To day Pa brought me to school. Ma was better this morning. Grandma is to stay with her through the day. I have seven scholars today. Pa gave me a Bottle of Hair Oil this morning. After school was over I went to stay with Adeline Dewey.

MAR. 23: This is the third day of my school. I had two new scholars today. I have nine now. After school went down to Hiram Dewey’s to stay all night, I am boarding there this week when I went in Adeline was quilting on a Quilt they had put on while I was at school. Retired at nine.

MAR. 24: Taught school again today. Had nine scholars. Crotched on my Tidy at noon. After school went to Mr.H.Dewey’s again. Worked on my Tidy in the evening. Adaline wished my ring on and I wished hers on. We went to bed at eight oclock.

MAR 25: Rose at six. Combed my hair. Made my bed and after breakfast went up to school at eight and started a fire. Pa came up after me and reached there in time when I got home found Phine and the baby and Stella Jones Mr. and Mrs.Ferris and Mrs.Breese. Stella stays with me tonight. I found Ma feeling better.

MAR. 26: Got up and got breakfast (Ma is feeling better). Stella had to go away soon after. Oh I am sorry she is such a good girl. Mr.Ward and Uncle Henry are here to supper. After we had eaten I had to get dinner for P.A. Florett & Sorphronia. I washed mopped and baked and got supper for seven persons. Pa went up to Quarterly meeting at Thompsons Hill today. P.A. took Stella up to Pennyville this morning

MAR. 27:This is the Blessed Sabbath day. Uncle Henry is here. Ma came out to breakfast and ate with us this morning. I got breakfast washed dishes made beds. Read in the Bible. Got supper Ma got up and ate with us again. Uncle Henry went down to Aunt Julia’s but came back here again. Thank God he is deranged no longer.

MAR. 28: Rose before daylight. Ma is feeling a good deal better. After breakfast Pa took me up to my school. It was very stormy, snowed all the way. Had one new scholar today. It was so bad walking that Mr.Dewey came up with the mules after Emmiline and I so I went down with her and staid all night.

MAR. 29: Went up to school at eight oclock and built a fire. I had seven scholars today. At noon we saw a Funeral procession go past it was that of a young woman about seventeen, they say her name is Grace Robinson. I went home with Ellen Covell tonight to stay. I am to board here the remainder of the week.

MAR. 30: Have been teaching again today. I get twenty dollars a month. walked to school this morning and built a fire. After school was over Mr.& Mrs.Covell came down after us When we got as far as Mr.Cooper’s the drifts were so bad we got stuck and had to get out of the wagon. Retired at eight.

MAR. 31: This morn rose soon after six, ate breakfast, made my bed, and then Mr.Covell brought us to school, and after school he came for us again. I crocheted some at noon and also after supper at night. In the evening read a piece in the magazine. Ellen and I went to bed at eight oclock.

APR. 1: Heard Mrs.Butler’s babe was dead. I have earned most five dollars again this week. Mr. Covell brought his children and I down to school this morning. After school he came after the girls and Ellen took me down to Mr.Dewey’s. P.A. came up after me and when I reached home I found two letters awaiting me one from Charlie and one from Ira.

APR. 2: Phine is here today and little Edith, I have worked hard all day trying to straighten up the house and getting three meals did the mopping and made bread and baked it. The creek is very high now, It has rained almost all day Ma is pretty sick yet retired at nine.

APR. 3: Rose at seven this morning Ma is feeling quite smart again today. I and Phine got breakfast- washed the dishes swept; made beds combed our hair and about two oclock made supper washed up the dishes and then sat down a few minutes. Retired at eight.

APR. 4: P.A. took me up to my school this morning. When I reached there Theodore had got in the house through the window and had a good fire for me Had one new scholar today At night George Cooper came down after us. I am boarding at Mrs.Cooper’s this week Ed Cooper and his wife were here today.

APR. 5: Martha Roiley and Ed Cooper were married day before yesterday, they are to stay here tonight, they expected to be home but were not. George took us to school this morning and came for us tonight: Flora and I retired at eight oclock

APR. 6: George took us to school this morning. Mr.Cooper took his wife to her folks today: they took the horses so they could not come after us. We walked home from school tonight, it was real sloppy. After supper I read some until bed time and then Flora and I retired at eight oclock

APR. 7: Teaching again today. The sun shines very pleasant, but it is very muddy in the road We walked down to school this morning, and walked back again at night. Read a little while in a book entitled "Henrietta Robinson" Retired at eight oclock

APR. 8: This morning Flora and I walked to school on the snow-drifts. I had fourteen scholars this week. Pa came up after me to night: coming down we met Aaron and Nan she said she would be mad at me if I did not come there before long. Ma is better now so she can walk again.

APR. 9: This morning got up and got breakfast, washed up the dishes, swept, made up the beds, baked bread, Ripped the hem off of my dress waist, Got supper washed dishes, swept, Burge and P.A. went up to the Center and brought me a Soap Receipt to day of a peddler

APR. 10: Wrote to Charlie this evening. Today I got up and got breakfast ready and after breakfast made four beds swept all of the rooms below and the back stoop washed and combed my hair dusted the chairs and straightened up the table Uncle Wesley and Aunt Maria and Luther was here also Phine and Burge and the baby I had to get supper for all of them.

APR. 11: Got up; and fixed myself to go to school. After breakfast Pa took me up to school. It rained almost all the way up there. I post a letter in the Office to Charlie this morning. Stopped to Pennyville and got a paper of pins. After school went to Mrs.Dewey’s and was sick all night.

APR. 12: This morning got up and although feeling scarcely able to set up had to go to the school-house and teach all day. After school went down to Uncle Arnold’s to see Nan and Aunt Eunice and found Eunice Thorp and her husband there and also their baby it’s name is Alfred.

APR. 13: Taught school again today. I had one new scholar today, making in all fifteen scholars. After went to Mr.Dewey’s to stay all night, because it looked so much like rain, I did not go down to Uncle Arnold’s to stay all night.. Retired at eight.

APR. 14: Have been teaching again today, but did not feel very well. After school I went down to Mr.Deweys again to stay all night. Mr.Keeney made an inspection of the teachers at Troy but I did not go. Next Tuesday is the end of my first month school in Dewey Dis-

APR. 15: Rose at six and combed my hair and after breakfast read a piece before going to school.Went to the school-house and built a fire. After school P.A. came up after me went home & found Grandma and Phine and little Eda there they staid til after tea.

APR. 16: Was at home today all day. I got breakfast this morning and after breakfast made beds, washed, ironed, and swept baked bread. Got supper & churned washed up the milk things and the churn.Fixed my dress. Grandma went home a foot tonight. Went to bed at nine oclock.

APR. 17: Got breakfast this morning made the beds, swept and then read eleven chapters in a book entitled "The Curse Entailed". And then got supper and swept again, and set down and read seventeen chapters. Retired at half past nine.

APR. 18: This morning got up and fixed for my school;., got breakfast and after we had eaten Pa took me to school. We found the crick very high. In some places it is up in the road I went to Mr. Dewey’s and it rained very hard. Found Adeline was very sick. I wiped dishes for Mrs. Dewey.

APR. 19: Rose this morning before six oclock. After breakfast combed Adaline’s hair for her. Wiped the dishes for Mrs.Dewey. Made my bed and went up to school and built a fire. After school stopped at Mr.Dewey’s and found Adaline worse. And went down to Mr. McAfee’s.

APR. 20: Rose at six: Combed my hair; Made my bed and got ready for breakfast. After breakfast went to the school-house and built a fire & swept the floor. I went in to see Adaline she is better this morning After school I went to Mr.McAfee’s to stay all night. We went to bed at nine oclock.

APR. 21: Today arose and dressed made my bed combed my hair, and after breakfast I went up to school and stopped to Mr. Dewey’s to see Adaline and found her much better, After school I went down to Mr.McAfee’s again to stay all night. We went to bed at half past ten. Marian played on her organ in the eve.

APR. 22: Went up to school and stopped into Uncle Arnold’s a few moments to see Eunice and then went up and stopped to see Adaline she is better. Pa came up after ma to night and when e got down to Mr.Mafee’s I stopped and she gave me some Dahlia’s to set out.Theodore rode down to Pennyville with us.

APR. 23: This morning did not get up very early. I swept up and got breakfast washed up the dishes and straightened up the house and got dinner and then cut me out a chemise and White skirt and sewed them up on the Machine Received a letter from Aunt Hatt Heard that Losie is dead, that is Lemuel Hanke’s wife.

APR. 24: Rose quite early. Got breakfast and washed the dishes, swept Made beds and washed me and combed my hair and finished reading a book through Then got dinner Aunt Lib was here to dinner Phine and Burge and Edith was up here in the afternoon.

APR. 25: This morning helped get breakfast and get ready to go to my school and also partly to get ready to go to Aunt Hatt’s Friday night Pa brought me to school I stopped to Uncle Henry;s store and got a spool of thread and a couple of Belt pins and borrowed 25 cts of Ma. After school went up to Mr.Covell’s to stay all night Worked on my white skirt

Apr. 26: Went to school and taught all day. At noon worked on my white skirt and helped Louise wash dishes. Rosilla Brown and her boy was here in the evening. Retired at eight

APR. 27: Rose at six, combed my head, made the bed and wiped the dishes for Louise. Gathered my skirt and went to the school-house and taught all day. At noon finished my skirt. After school went to Mr. Covell’s and Mrs.Covell gave me some Quaking Grass seed and some Egyptian Wheat

APR. 28: Rose at six: combed up my hair; Made my bed and after breakfast Louise and I started for the school-house. I taught all day, had one new scholar, and after school I went to Mr.Covell’s to stay again. I wiped the dishes for Louise, and Ellen and I went to bed at eight

APR. 29: Taught school again to day After school went down to Uncle Arnold’s and changed my clothes and then went over to Aunt Hatt’s. We got there just before they got supper ready. I wiped the dishes for Aunt Hatt and went to bed at nine.

APR. 30: Was to Aunt Hatt’s today At the breakfast table Uncle Charly said (after he looked in my cup) that I was going to have an "Offer of Marriage" with in three months I wonder if it will be so. I help Aunt Hatt paper her bedroom and she came home with us tonight When we came past Mr.Jones’es I saw Mr.Jones and Mrs.Jones and Stella but they did not know me at all

MAY 1:We did not get up until late this morning After breakfast P.A. took the colts and went up to Centerville and got Grandma and Aunt Hatt And in a little while Phine came up with Edith After supper they all want home I was sick and went to bed

May 2 : This morning I was so sick I could scarcely sit up but I had to go to my school sick or well. Pa brought me up this morning, and Ma came up as far as Grandma’s with us. After school I went to Mr.Dewey’s to stay all night. Adaline and I and Emmeline went up to Mr.May’s and then up to Mr.Covell’s.

MAY 3:Rose up, and dressed, and made my bed, combed my hair, and after breakfast went up to school At noon I sewed some on my Ruffle and after school went down to Aunt Eunice’s to stay all night. After supper helped Aunt Eunice wash the dishes

MAY 4: This morning rose early made my bed, combed my hair. And after breakfast I helped Aunt Eunice wash the dishes and started for school stopped to Mr.Dewey’s and his wife told me Mr.Castle was dead. After school went down to Aunt’s again and helped her

MAY 5: This morning rose quite early. Combed my hair Made my bed, and after breakfast help Aunt Eunice wash up the dishes, and then I went up to the school-house and when I got up to Mr.Dewey’s Emmeline went up with me. Went to Uncle Arnold’s and staid all night. Mr.Bingham was there and staid all night.

MAY 6: Mr.Thorp’s was here this morning to breakfast, After helping Aunt Eunice wash the dishes, and clean her Lamp and make my bed I went to school. After school I went down to Aunt Lib’s to stay all night. Yesterday there were two funerals one of Mr.Castle of Wellsburg the other that of Mrs.Crane’s little girl

MAY 7: Received a letter from Charlie and one from Lib. I rose quite early this morning and after breakfast Aunt Lib and I rode over to the store and I bought two pairs of Cotton Stockings & a pair of Ear-rings and Pin and Corset. I tried the last on and it was too large and they took it back Uncle Henry gave me an orange and Aunt Lib gave me a looking glass a small one

MAY 8: Today Mr. Ward was here for breakfast, he staid here last night after meeting, he went off after breakfast. It rained all day to day until almost night. Towards night P.A. went up to L.Burke’s after Phine and Edith, they got home just before dark and staid to our house all night. Burge was here today.

MAY 9: This morning after breakfast and I have got ready Pa took me to school . I hemmed on my Ruffle at noon I have been almost sick all day to day. It rained all the way to school and all day. I went to stay at Mr. Dewey’s to stay all night. Retired at eight.

MAY 10: Rose quite late, not feeling very well, eat but little breakfast, made my bed. Wiped dishes for Adeline and went over to the school-house in the rain and built a fire and swept the floor. After school went to the Dewey’s again to stay all night. After supper wiped the dishes again and retired at nine.

MAY 11: This morning went up to school after helping Adaline wash the dishes and make my bed. I built a fire and swept out the school-house. And after school I went up to Mrs.Cooper’s to stay all night. After supper Flora and I went over to see Martha a little while. Went back to Mrs.Cooper’s and retired at eight.

MAY 12:Came down to the school-house (after breakfast and making my bed) at eight oclock and built a fire and swept the school-room. And at noon hemmed on my Ruffle After school went up to Mrs.Cooper’s again to stay all night. After supper Flora and I went to bed at eight oclock. I did not feel very good.

MAY 13: Rose at six and combed my hair and got ready for breakfast. After breakfast made my bed and finished my Ruffle and then went down to the school-house and built a fire and swept the house. Pa came up after me tonight. We stopped to Aunt Lib’s and took supper with them went over to the store and bought me a new ---- dress and Ma bought a new ---- for her dress.

MAY 14: This morning rose at six and after breakfast I went and set out some Dahlias and made a bed and sowed some flower seeds. Phine is staying here now. Aunt Julia came up here and staid a little while. Mr. and Mrs.Ferris and her boy stopped out here and I went out to see them. Aaron and Nan was here to dinner.

MAY 15: I got up quite late this morning, owing to my not feeling very well. After breakfast, Washed the dishes and made my bed, swept the front-room, and dusted the chairs. And sat down and read a while, and got supper and washed the dishes. Ma and Pa and Gusta went up Aunt Sarah’s today. I saw Mr. and Mrs.Ferris and her boy.

MAY 16: This morning I got ready to go to my school for the last time up to Dewey District. After breakfast P.A. took me up and Gusta went with us as far as Aunt Lib’s to pick out a dress.At noon I commenced a Tidy for myself. I stopped and got some and then started for the school-house Primmers for my scholars at Uncle Henry’s store. Staid at Mr.McAfee’s tonight

MAY 17: Got up at six and got ready for breakfast Theodore and I went up to the school-house. Swept out the school- room at recess. I expect Mrs.Dewey and Mrs.Cooper here this afternoon. Mrs.Cooper --- me down. After school I went down to see Emmile and staid until after dark and then went to Aunt Eunice’s

MAY 18: This morning got up and made the bed combed my hair and got ready for breakfast, and after breakfast I wiped up the dishes and then went to school. After school went up to Martha Cooper’s to stay all night After tea I wrote the names on the cards for the scholars I gave Owen and Frank a Penny.

May 19: This morn rose up quite early and made the bed combed my hair and got ready for breakfast After breakfast I wiped the dishes for Martha . Had company this afternoon it being the last day of school. Ma and Pa and Mr. and Mrs. Dewey and Adaline and Ed Cooper’s wife. Staid to Mrs.Dewey’s til after ten.

MAY 20: Did not get up very early this morning on account of being so tired and worn out. After breakfast made my bed, swept the floor Made a couple of pies and crocheted some on my Tidy Took care of Edith a part of the tome. Gusta went down to stay with Aunt Julia so I shall sleep alone.

MAY 21: This morning I got up with the Sore Throat. I wiped the dishes, made my bed and swept up the floors combed my Hair. Eat dinner, help wash the dishes. After dinner Pa was taken with the Cholera Morbus very bad. We sent for Dr.Everett but he did not come until just before sundown.

MAY 22:Burge and Phine and little Edith are staying here now. He has rented his House and Lot. Father is better this morning. He has no pain now but feels pretty weak. Mr.and Mrs.Hall and Esther were down here this afternoon to see how Pa was. I am not very well today.

May 23:This morning I got up about six but did not feel very well. Did not eat any breakfast. Helped wash dishes made my bed and swept the floor. Help wash in the fore noon and after we had eaten dinner. I was taken with the sick head-ache and fever and had to quit work for the rest of the day.

MAY 24: I am worse this morning than yesterday with the Head-ache Sore Throat and Fever. I got up after they had eaten breakfast but did not sit up long. I had to lay in bed almost all day. Have eat nothing for couple days only a little toast. After supper and the work did up I soaked my feet and retired

MAY 25: Did not get up this morning and have not felt well all day I wiped the dishes, combed my hair and helped peal some Potatoes, and worked some on Edith’s Skirt. Mr.and Mrs.Ferris and Addison Ashpole were here to supper. Retired quite late.

MAY 26: Received a letter from Emma. I slept up Stairs last night because Mr. and Mrs.Ferris staid here Addison slept with P.A. I did not get up until after they went up to Mrs.Seely’s. I was sick again today. They came back a few minutes and then went home.

MAY 27: This morning I rose late not feeling very well. I have been caged in my room all day. We had pot pie for tea but I did not eat any of it. Our folks are trying to get the work out of the way so they could sew but they did not do much sewing after all.

MAY 28: Ate Breakfast in bed arose late & found myself better than yesterday except being very well wished had my hair combed & have taken care of Edith. Lay down once during the day. Have not did any work today because felt to miserable to do it I have taken lots of Medicine today.

MAY 29: Received a letter from Aunt Hatt and answered it. I am feeling better today This morning arose late and found Ma dressed for Church. I got up and dressed and after breakfast Pa and Ma started for Dirgie to Church When they came back Pa gave me some Dried Beef and some Cheese that Sarah Handlon sent to me.

MAY30:I sent a letter today to Aunt Hatt by Uncle Charly He stayed here all night last night. I have had to take medicine all day again to-day but I am feeling better now than I have since I was taken sick. Addison Ashpole was down here this afternoon. He and P.A. have gone fishing.

MAY 31: This is the last day of the month. I arose quite early and ate my breakfast and Phine combed my hair for me, Today I gathered a part of my Ruffle and took care of Edith. This forenoon Hubert and Stella and Recca Twining came along and stopped. Hubert and Stella were going to stay over night but Phine and Burge were here and they would not stay.

JUN. 1: This morning I got up and made my bed combed my hair, and after breakfast I wiped the dishes for Gusta. I sewed some on my Chemise and finished my Ruffle for my Calico Dress. Our folks did their washing today and I had to take care of Edith. Retired about nine.

JUN. 2: Have not felt so well to day as usual, but had to work just the same. I have worked on my Chemise, and made my bed, and combed my hair, and wiped dishes and after dinner I lay down on the Lounge and got to sleep and slept quite a while Retired early.

JUN. 3: This morning rose quite early, and after breakfast made my bed combed my hair and went to work again on my Chemise Ate dinner and read a little while. I am and have felt better all day to-day. I have hired out for ($15,00) dollars a month to teach again in our District

JUN. 4: Rose quite early this morning ate my breakfast made my bed, combed my hair swept the front-room, And finished my Chemise all but the bands around the Sleeves. Phine sewed my Ruffle on my light Calico Dress for me to-day

JUN. 5: I rose not very early this morning and have quite sick all day. I made my bed, combed my hair and help straiten up the house. Then I changed my Dress and put on my light-colored Calico one and rested and read a little while. Retired early

JUN. 6: I shall wear my red calico dress this week It is raining quite hard this morning when I arose and continued until school time. I commenced my school to-day with seventeen scholars. But I did not feel much like teaching. Oh how can I endure this all summer. It has been real warm all day. Another shower after school

JUN. 7: Rose quite early this morning. Got everything ready and then went up to school. I am boarding at home this week. I had five new scholars to-day that makes me twenty-two scholars now. Uncle Wesley patched my shoe and sent it down by Willie this morning. Wiped up the dishes and in a little while I retired

JUN. 8: Had one new scholar today. Rose quite early this morning but felt quite sick. I made my bed and got ready to go up to the school-house to teach again all day. I crotched some at noon, and after school I stopped to Mrs.Robbin’s and got some Pie plant. Retired early.

JUN. 9: Rose at six, and made my bed, combed my hair and fixed myself for school. Taught all day in the afternoon it began to rain and did not stop until we reached home. I went in to Bell Arneigh’s and staid until it slacked up a little. Today I heard that Mrs.Beckwith had a little boy. Retired late.

JUN. 10:

This morning rose quite early and help do the churnning.Ate my breakfast and fixed myself for school I staid and swept the school-house, and went home. After supper Mr.Jones came here and we got some supper for home, and he brought me a letter from Stella.

JUN. 11:I rose quite early this morning. Mr.Jones staid here last night and after breakfast he went to Wellsburg after a Minister. While he was gone I answered Stella’s letter. After he went away I went to work at some examples but did not work but one, I made my bed, combed my hair and helped do up the work.

JUN. 12: Elmer Hall’s wife is sick. Was at home all day until after supper then after I had washed the dishes and strained the milk and washed the milk things I went down to Aunt Julia’s, and put some horse radish leaves on her face and neck she has the toothache. I made my bed and combed my hair. Phine and the baby and Burge went over to South Creek.

JUN. 13:Rose quite early, It rained until school-time. I made my bed , combed my hair and went to school. Pa went up to Penny-ville to meet the Directors. He got the Report Book for me and left it up to Uncle Henry’s store. I came home from school and helped do up the supper work. Retired late.

JUN. 14: Got up at six oclock and made my bed combed my hair and got ready for breakfast Went to school and after school went home and P.A. and I went up to Penny-ville. I got me a pair of Garters. We went up for the Reporter but Sarah Colgrove took it off with her a letter from Charlie. Finished my Chemise tonight.

JUN. 15: Got up at six combed my hair, washed the dishes made my bed. Went up to the school-house and taught all day. After I came home Pa said that Judd Voorhis sent me an invitation to come up and eat strawberries. The Hack that runs from Pennyville to Elmira commenced Monday last.

JUN. 16: Rose before six and combed my hair, made my bed and went over to Mrs.Stevens’s to take her Flat-iron home and heard that George Decker was dead. I had the Head-ache all afternoon to-day. Mr.Ferris came down to the school-house to-day and said there would be no meeting until Sunday night. I helped pick Wool to-night and wash dishes

JUN. 18: Rose quite early combed my hair, made my bed, swept my room and helped do up my work crocheted some and then went up in our North Meadow, after some strawberries Had been up there but a few moments before Mr.Seely came up and ordered me out. I had just got ready to go, but when he said the meadow belonged to him I did not like that very much and so I did not go.

JUN.17Got up about six oclock made my bed, combed my hair, wiped the dishes and went to the school-house and taught all day. Had twenty-five scholars in all twenty-six. Mr.Seely drove P.A. and Gusta out of our field last night. After supper to-night Gusta went to the Center and I went as far as the school-house.

JUN. 19: Rose at six helped get breakfast, wash up the dishes and made my bed. We had a strawberry Short-cake for breakfast, combed my hair and got ready to go up to Aunt Sarah’s. About noon we started but when we got as far as Mrs.Beckwith’s, it was so warm, we went back home. Went to hear Mr.Ferris preach this evening.

JUN. 20: Rose before six, combed my hair and greased my shoes and after breakfast I went up to school and taught all day. We had straw-berry short-cake for dinner. After supper I went up to Mr.Voorhis’s to stay all night. After tea Ella and I and Ella Cowles went up and picked some strawberries, had all we wanted to eat, Went over to Mrs.Ferris’s for a few minutes. Retired early

JUN. 21: I rose at six and combed my hair, washes and arranged my dress and went down stairs. I crotched until breakfast was ready and after breakfast started for the school-house I stopped at Aunt Maria’s and Phine and the came before I went on After school I went up to Aunt Maria’s. Mrs.Ferris and Mrs.Bree’s and Mrs.Pitt was there.

JUN. 22: Rose quite early, made my bed combed my hair and, after breakfast went to the school-house and after school went down home to stay all night Mrs.Ferris wanted me to say I would come there but I did not promise for certain I heard this morn there was to be a Festival at Smithfield one week from to-day

JUN. 23: Rose at six made my bed combed my hair and got ready for school Went up to the school-house after breakfast. After school I came home and after supper marked out a Dress-waist for Phine by my model. Pa and P.A. have gone to Pennyville after the Report book for me.

JUN. 24: Rose quite early. I combed my hair and prepared for school. After breakfast Gusta made our bed while I ironed. I went up to school and taught all day, came home and partly made out my Report for my Spring Term. Helped wash the dishes and the --- Retired early

JUN. 25: Rose early, got breakfast washed up the dishes, swept, made my bed did the mopping, and combed my hair and then finished my Report Eda is five months old today, we weighed her She weighs 14lbs and ¼ of a lb. I help get supper and wash up the dishes Pa cut his finger very bad up to Mr.Hall’s.

JUN. 26: It has been dreadful warm all day to-day I did not feel very well to-day, I rose, washed, dressed combed my hair, help get breakfast. Help wash the dishes, made my bed and when it was time I help get supper and wash the dishes read a while and sung some Hymns and retired

JUN. 27: Rose at six, washed, dressed made my bed and did out part of the washing before I went to my school I taught all day as usual had one new scholar which makes me twenty-seven After school I went up to the Store and got a Bottle of Hall’s Balsom, went home P.A. went to Elmira to day Retired late

JUN. 28: Rose early, help get breakfast, wiped the dishes made my bed. After breakfast I ironed some and got ready for school. Went up to my school. After school went up to Mrs.Ferris’es to stay all night. She told me there was to be a Wedding there tomorrow. His name is Wm Cisson but do not know the name of the Bride. Retired late.

JUN. 29: Woke quite early. Rose before six, made my bed, washed combed my hair, and read until breakfast was ready. After breakfast went down to school. After school went home. Heard the Bride of to-day was Mifs Doty from Smithfield. Help get supper did some ironing. Picked some currents before ---- shower.

JUN. 30: Rose early made my bed. Help get breakfast, Gusta and I washed up the dishes. Swept four rooms and the stoop and got ready to go to school After school I went down to Aunt Julia’s to stay all night and we had Berry pie for supper, I wiped the dishes for Aunt Julia. Retired late

JUL. 1: Rose before six made my bed, combed my hair and got ready for breakfast I wiped the dishes for Aunt Julia Went home a few minutes and then went up to the school-house. After school went home and help get supper and wash the dishes. Egbert Jenkins brought me a letter from Aunt Hatt

JUL. 2: I rose early, help get breakfast, swept, and did the washing cleaned the stoops And after dinner Julia Brigham came here. I stitched a skirt for her on the Machine then sewed up my dress skirt Help get supper and wash the dishes and made my bed. Phine and I picked a pan of currents to-day

JUL. 3: I have felt quite sick all day. I help get breakfast and wash dishes and made my bed and swept combed my hair, changed my clothes. Help get dinner wash the dishes, and read some. In the evening our folks all went up to meeting except Phine and I. We retired at nine

JUL. 4: We heard that Lime Cooper and Sarah Cornell: Em Cooper and Sam Smith were married yesterday. I went up to the Store at noon to get some Buttons but there was none that suited me. At night came home and sewed on my dress

JUL. 8: Rose quite early this morning. Help get breakfast, and wash the dishes, swept, made my bed and sat down and sewed the Ruffle (a part of it) on my Cape and some Hooks and eyes on my dress, made a pocket and put it in P.A. and I intended to go to Smithfield to day but they wanted to finish their job

P.A. lost my Watchkey yesterday, so I had to go to the Store this morning before school to get one, I met Mr.La-Vette when I went up After school I came home and took care of the baby a while and then worked some examples for Esther Hall. JUL. 12: Rose early this morning. Made my bed and prepared for school Phine and Edith went over to Mrs.Thompson’s this morning after breakfast. P.A. took them over. After school I came home and did the ironing for Ma so she would not have to do it. I sewed up a pair of Drawers on the Machine. Retired early

After school went up to stay with Aunt Maria she was alone She talked as if she would like to make a match between that fella and I. She said if I would work my cards right I might get him. Alas for me he is gone

I helped do the work and went to school After school came home and picked Peas, milked two cows and after I got the chores did it rained so hard we could not see the hill. Retired early

We went to Hart’s Gallery first and then Alice and I went with Stella to get her a chain, came back to Hart’s and we all had our pictures taken in a group and the boys had some taken alone. From there we went to the Saloon and got our dinner and from that we went to the Can Shop and from there to the Bolling Mill. Had a splendid time. S---- two fountains, and then Stella and I Ellen & Alice went to Mr.Larkin’s Gallery then to Mr.Waters’ and then went up where Becca was and from there down to Matt’s took supper and went home Had a splendid time all day. I swept the house all through below and set empting and when they came up I mixed and baked it the first I have made in a good while. Had first rate luck with it. Edith is better today. Phine and I have been trying to help Ma and Gusta ready to go out to Wash Fuller’s to Post Creek Monday. I suspose we will be alone next week. Phine went to Penny ville with Pa to day and when Burge came she told him and he got spunky, and after supper, took his clothes and went off, told her she might go to Evens’s if she wanted too but he soon came back

Got supper milked one cow Burge milked the other . Our folks reached home just dark P.A. went to Elmira and has not reached home yet

After this was done I prepared to go and stay with Aunt Lib while Uncle Henry went to the City. I went up with his nephew Mr.Evens. Mrs.Cornell and Aunt Lib went over and began to clean the Store. I staid in the house until after dinner and did the work When they came in Auntie brought me a splendid box After the work was finished (the dinner work) I went over and help them a while. SEPT. 28: Rose early. made my bed and P.A.’s. Washed the breakfast dishes and swept made a couple of peach pies. Pared a lot of peaches to dry. Help get dinner. Expected Mr.&Mrs.Ferris here to dinner but they did not come. Dr.Goodman was here to night I took Mrs.Steven’s a piece of fresh pork. Got supper and washed the dishes

SEPT. 29: Rose early. Went down stairs and help about breakfast and washed the dishes. Pared some peaches to can. Picked some tomatoes to do up. Got dinner and washed dishes Thrashed out some mustard seed. Got supper. After we has eaten Gusta and I went up to Mr.Hall’s after some paint our house with.P.A. came up with us.

SEPT. 30: Rose early, went down and help get breakfast. It rained hard when I woke. it is now bed time, it has not stopped yet. Last night P.A. went up to the Office, he brought a paper that someone had left in the Office for me who it is I can not tell I have been busy about as usual

OCT. 1: Did not get up very early as I did not feel very well. I went down and help get breakfast and did up the morning work and made the beds Heard that Clara Thompson one of my scholar’s is dead. I got dinner and supper, washed dishes, picked peaches, patched some

OCT. 2: We rose early this morning intending to go down to Wellsburg to meeting but got disappointed, so we waited and went down there in the afternoon to Clara’s funeral They employed a glass hearse from Elmira. She did not look very natural. They say Eugene and Mrs.Thompson are both sick yet. Retired early

OCT. 3: Rose early, again it is raining quite glibly so we could not wash. I did up the morning work and then went out and where Pa was splitting shingle spolts(?) and coaxed him to mix the paint and paint the front-room one coat. I worked all doing house work & sewing carpet

OCT. 4: Rose very early. Went down and combed my head help get breakfast, did up the work and then went to washing. Esther stopped this morning. She says Mrs.Thompson is sick now, also Gene &Mr.Thompson. Washed all day, milked one cow. Burge was tossing Edith to keep her still and hit her head on lots of keys that hung on a hook over head an broke the ring of one key in two, came very near killing her Our folks went to Penny ville, when they came back they brought a new set of dishes. I washed up the supper dishes and then washed the whole set. Addie Asphole came home with P.A.

OCT. 5: Rose early. Help get breakfast. Washed up the dishes, made up my bed and P.A.’s. Help get the red cupboard out doors then I washed it inside and out brought it in and put it in it’s place and placed our new dishes in it and sorted over the books, brought then up stairs and put them in the old Chest. Pa and P.A. went up to Penny ville and when they came back brought some wallpaper for front-room. Uncle Henry sent me $31.75 which was five dollars more than he owed me which I shall rectify when I see him

OCT. 6: Rose early made two beds Help make breakfast and wash the dishes. Pa finished painting and then we went to papering and fixed the house again We had to get dinner for the men that were at work on the house and supper also. After working hard all day we were glad to rest

OCT. 7: Rose early made my beds, Help get breakfast and wash up the dishes. Burge helped us put down the carpet and then we finished the papering. The men put the roof on or over half of the kitchen Uncle Robert Impson came here to-day

OCT. 8: Uncle Henry Evens sent me a present of a new dress. We rose early. I made my beds. Help get breakfast and wash the dishes. We churned, scrubbed, took up carpet off the kitchen floor and shook it finished the front-room all but window curtains which Pa got to night. We tacked them up until after Sunday Retired late

OCT. 9: I was taken sick last night, went to bed sick and rose this morning as good as sick. Help get breakfast and made a couple beds. Wrote a letter to Phine Vine & husband. Help get supper. After supper Uncle Robert came here. Uncle Wes was here to dinner. We had a peach short-cake

OCT. 10: Rose early, made two beds I went down and help get breakfast, wash up the dishes and swept then we made some window curtains, and cleaned Ma’s room all but washing windows and putting down the carpet again. Then we got supper and wash up the dishes

Aunt Julia and her children were here this afternoon and took supper with us.Burge came from his work before supper, He had went all day with his leg cut very bad, and a limb hit him in the eye and almost put it out Retired early

OCT. 16: Rose just at day-break, went down stairs and got breakfast and then Gusta P.A. and I got ready to go to Aunt Hatt’s. We went to the Disciple Church to meeting, saw Mr.&Mrs.Jones & Stella. Hubert had gone to Troy.. Left Gusta to Aunt H- Found Aunt Lid & Uncle Henry there. Returned home by the Chapel. Came home safe

OCT. 17: Rose early, came down and help get breakfast and wash the dishes. After breakfast I wash the dishes and went to washing. We have turned over a new leaf, which is washing the colored clothes first. After the washing was done cleaned the stoop. Help get supper and wash dishes churned and shucked Hickory nuts

OCT. 18: Did not rise very early. Had the teeth-ache all night long and all day to day, it makes me almost crazy. Help get breakfast, and washed the dishes and swept and sewed some on my Pillow-cases. Aunt Julia was up here a little while. Help get dinner and supper and wiped the dishes and did some ironing

OCT. 21: Rosen late. Went down and help get breakfast, washed the dishes. Sewed on my Pillow-cases. Made two beds. Swept the floor. Pa & P.A. worked for Mr.Cooper to day. Hiram Nellie & Addie came here to night. Hiram & Addie stayed all night. Help get supper & wash dishes

OCT. 22: Today rose early. I went down and help get breakfast. Washed the dishes churned. Mixed biscuits for dinner. Phine mixed the bread and mopping. Uncle Wes had Frank and Charlie to go to Springfield with him this afternoon. Worked all day with the teeth-ache again

OCT. 23: Rose late with the teeth-ache again. Suffered with it all day long. I did not do much about the work. Tended baby a good share of the time We went up to the school-House to hear Mr.Ferris preach from the "Word of God"

OCT. 24: Burge and I intend to go to Troy to morrow. Rose just at day light. Went down stairs, and after breakfast, I help wash the dishes, and swept, then went up stairs, and made both beds, and got the clothes ready to wash, and Esther came and waited for the Stage. Help wash and get supper and take care of Edith, with the teeth-ache again

OCT. 25: Edith is nine months old to day Last night between ten and eleven I awoke with my face all swollen and aching. I suffered with it until almost twelve. I got up and went down stairs and got the Camphor and went back. Got to sleep between two and three. Rose before day light, sewed a little & made my beds and ironed. In the evening received a letter from Phine

OCT. 26: Rose at day –break. Went down stairs and help get breakfast. My face was all swollen up so that I could hardly see and real painful all day. I washed dishes, swept the kitchen, Hall, and Bed-room above made two beds. Cut out two pairs of drawers and one Chemise. Got supper and washed dishes

OCT 27: Rose before day-break got breakfast and washed the dishes. Esther came here and then I wrote a letter to Adeline. Then made my beds.Ironed. Got dinner and washed the dishes. We had Mush and milk for dinner and just as we got it on the table Mr.& Mrs.Ferris came here and Mrs.Ferris had to have a bowl of Mush and milk. We had a splendid visit. They staid until after tea. Went to bed with the teeth-ache again. Ached all night long

OCT. 28: Rose early made two beds. Washed the breakfast dishes. I sewed some on my Drawers. Just as I was going to get dinner Hattie Wright (one of my scholars) came to see me. She staid until after dinner and just after she went away Hannah Chapins came here to see us

OCT. 29: Did not rise very early. Went down and help get breakfast. After I had eaten , I left the rest around the table, and wrote a letter to Stella. P.A. went over to stay with Hubert and took it to her for me. I swept the front-room and bed-room, fixed the rest of the carpet down and dusted the chairs. Patched the window papers and made a new one. Made some soft cake and cookies and mixed pie crust and churned. Made my bed swept Washed the supper dishes. Mrs. VanVert was buried today

OCT. 30: Rose late. Made my bed. Washed me and combed my hair. Help get breakfast and swept. Wrote five letters, the first to Temperance Fuller next to Emme Reyman next to Phine & Aunt next to George L.Paine next to Sarah Boyer. Gusta came home to night

OCT. 31: Rose early, made two beds came down and got breakfast and wash the dishes, combed my hair and just as I got ready to change my dress for Inspection Mr.Henry came here to put his horse in the Barn till night. At noon he came down to dinner with us and also Mifs Odell Amerlia & Dellia I did not get a Certificate I told him I did not want one

NOV. 1: Rose early made my beds. Help get breakfast. Us girls have turned over a new leaf. I am to do the House-work this week. Phine and Gusta next week Phine and Gusta did the washing to day and I got dinner and supper, washed the dishes and swept Gusta and I picked a half-bushel of Hickory nuts

NOV.4: Rose at day-break. Went down and help get breakfast. washed the dishes swept, worked over Butter Got dinner,washed dishes swept. Boiled down some Cider out doors. Pared some apples to stew. Got supper, washed dishes. Addie was here to supper. staid all night . The girls cleaned bedroom and front –room to day.After tea we Pared some apples for cider apple sauce

NOV. 5: Rose before day-light. Made my bed. Finished my room put down carpet. Churned baked bread. Got breakfast dinner & supper swept, and Paired apples to finish our Cider apple sauce. Uncle Wes and Elmer were here to dinner He & his family are going West in two weeks

NOV. 7: Rose before day-light, came down and help get breakfast, made my bed Pa and Burge went after sheep to-day. Phine & I and Edith went up to Uncle Wes’s and staid all day. went to the store and got a spool of thread, and finished my drawers and sewed on my Chemise. Came home about three

NOV. 8: Rose before day, went down and help get breakfast Pa went up to Uncle David’s to day to work on his Barn. Made my bed, picked up the clothes and did the washing, mopped churned, swept, washed the dishes Help get supper and after supper I had the teeth-ache again. Went up to bed and had to walk the House until about mid-night before I could go to sleep

NOV. 9: Mr.& Mrs.Ferris and Addie were here to-day. Addie staid all night. Rose before day, came down, help get breakfast. Tended baby a while. Esther came here to wait for the stage. I popped some corn for her before it came. I got my new dress and commenced to make it. A Peddler came here to-day. I bought a charm & some edging for my Pillow-cases. He gave me a lot of tangled shoe string

NOV. 10: Rose before day-light, made my bed.Went down and help get breakfast. Afterwards went to work on my dress. Got it made all but making and sewing on the Ruffles and plaiting the skirt and putting it on the waist. Ma helped me , she also sewed up my Balmoral on the Machine Went to bed quite late

NOV. 11: Rose first day. Went down and got ready for breakfast. Just as we got the House straightened around Ett & Em came here and wanted me to go the Burg with them, but could not go. I sewed on my dress to day and run a hem in my Bal- Ma went up to Grandma’s and is going to stay all night

NOV. 12: Did not rise very early Went down and after breakfast I swept the House , and sat down, and finished my dress all but plaiting and gathering the skirt and sewing it on the waist and also some hooks and eyes. I washed the supper dishes. Pa came home and soon after Uncle Charly Hatt Grandma Ma P.A. and Addie came here

NOV. 13:Rose late, came down and help get breakfast. I changed my dress and went down to Aunt Julia’s with Hatt Charly and Grandma staid a few moments came home and then they went home. I help get dinner and after dinner I wrote to George Cowl. Addie is here yet

NOV. 14: Rose before day-light. Made two beds. Help get breakfast, swept the kitchen and my room and the Hall. Went to sewing. Finished my Balmoral and hemmed a handkerchief that Aunt Lib gave me, Help get dinner and wash the dishes. Went to bed quite late

NOV. 15: Rose long time before day-light, went down and got breakfast for Pa and P.A. so they could go to Troy. When they came back they brought me two yards Lady’s Cloth six yards Muslin and nine Blue Buttons. I sewed on my new calico dress Uncle Henry gave me.

NOV. 16: Rose before day-light and help get breakfast. Made two beds. Help wash and iron a few clothes. Wiped the dishes at noon. Sewed the Buttons and some Hooks and eyes on my Poplin dress. After supper I washed up the dishes Addie Ashpole came here to-night to stay the night

NOV. 24: Rose before day. Went down and help get breakfast, swept the floor Help take care of Edith and make my dress waist all but Belt and binding around the neck, Our folks killed Hogs to-day, or Seely did rather. Read in the Paper that Susie Tracy was married Mrs. Stevens is getting better

NOV. 25: Edith is ten months old to-day. Rose early, Made my bed, Came down and help make breakfast Help do up the work Finished my dress. After I finished it and got supper a going EM Etta & Sate called a few minutes. When were gone I went up stairs and got ready to go to the Show Clayton and Mr.Taylor came here in the stage soon after Mr.Jenkins came. Clayton & Gusta Phine P.A. Mr.Taylor & I all went up to the show after supper

NOV. 26: Rose long before day Mr.Perkins Mr.Taylor and Clayton were all here for breakfast this morning. They went or started for home soon after breakfast. Boiled the Meat for Head-cheese, did up the ironing except two dresses and Garivaldi. Help get supper & wash dishes. Grandma came down here to-night. I cracked some Hickory nuts

DEC. 1: Rose between two and three and got ready to go to Elmira to take the Cars. Burge took us to the Depot. We went to Mr.Gardine’s till train-time. We went to Corning. We had to lay over and so went to Mr.Lawrence’s to took dinner. Took the cars went to Wallace’ and walked down the track to Mr,C----:s where Temperance was, and staid all night

DEC. 2: Rose early, made my bed and got ready for breakfast. After breakfast Mr.Crum(?) took us to the Depot. After we got to Liberty we went up to Arn’s on foot. After dinner Belle and I went down to the Grocery and down to Mr.Lafayette Campbell’s. Saw Hulda and little Wilber Phebe Melissa and Nancy, also Mifs Seely. Came back and after supper Belle and I went up and staid all night at her Grandma’s

DEC. 3: Rose just after day-break Went down to Arn’s and staid until after dinner & then Belle & I went down to the Methodist Church to Mrs. Brunson’s funeral We came back and after supper we went down to Lafe’s to a visiting party.The company were Mr.&Mrs.Campbell Mr.&Mrs.Seely Three Mifs Campbells, Jim Howard, we staid until one oclock. Then went home with Nell and staid all night

DEC. 4: Rose early. Mr.Campbells folks ate breakfast at ten Before twelve Belle and Lisa came there. Then in a few minutes we all went up to Arn’s. We had been there but a short time when Mrs.Newell also a cousin came there. Willie & Mille went there and picked some winter green berries. In the evening we all went to church. Staid with Belle

DEC. 5: Rose early and after breakfast we all got ready and went down to cousin Sylvester’s. Belle gave me a lot of pieces like her dresses and Lilis’. Mr.Camp- took us all to the cars Lissa Nell Lilis and Arnold went to the Depot with us. Belle went with us to Wallace. Stopped in Corning and went to see Sate. Went to Hunt’s and came on home

DEC. 6: We found our folks well. Rose early. Made two beds, and after breakfast washed the dishes, swept, then Phine and I did the washing. Our school commenced yesterday. Mr.Halstead teaches for us again. I can not go to school until next Tuesday. I have so much to do. Washed the supper dishes

DEC. 7: Rose early. Came down and help get breakfast. Washed up the dishes. Swept up the floors. Did the mopping. And then ironed the white clothes except the starched ones. Got supper. Took up the Butter. Washed the supper dishes.Ma has been to Aunt Julia’s all day

DEC.10: Rose early got breakfast Washed the dishes and made my beds and swept my bed-rooms again. Went to work and white washed the kitchen and washed the wood-work and did the churning. Help get supper and washed the dishes. Knit awhile again this evening

DEC.11: Rose first day-break. Got breakfast and help do up the work. I intend to go up to Doty Hill to Quarterly Meeting but could not go. I sat down a while then I had to go to getting supper. After supper I wrote a letter to Phine & Austin

DEC. 12: Rose early. Got breakfast and washed the dishes before day-light, swept the house made my beds and prepared to go to school. This is the first-day I have been this winter. Wm.C.Halstead is teaching again this term. Went home after school and got supper and washed the dishes.

DEC. 13: Rose and went down and got breakfast before day again. Help wash the dishes, and swept the floor, and prepared for school again. After school went home and got supper Gusta helped me wash the dishes In the evening knit and got my lessons

I swept up stairs and got ready for school. After school we got home just as Phine had supper most ready. Washed the supper dishes knit and got my lessons

DEC. 19: Rose early. Went down got breakfast. Washed the dishes and then got ready and went to school.. Studied hard all day. Went home got supper washed the dishes. Help pare a pan of apples Knit on Gusta’s stocking and got my Arithmetic lesson. Retired late

DEC. 20: Rose early. Went down got breakfast. Did not go to school to day. Help fill four beds and wash four windows and did the mopping. Fixed the papering on the front-room wall. Got supper and washed the dishes. Pared some apples for Pies. Then we went down after Belle but she did not come

DEC. 21: Rose early. Went down and got breakfast washed up the dishes. Swept the floor. Got ready and went up to school. After school went home sick. Ma told me that Hubert Jones and Ellery Hale were here to dinner Ellery was sick. I did not do anything but knit a little and pare some apples

DEC. 22: Rose early. Got breakfast and prepared for school. After school went home and help get supper and then did part of the washing. Then got my lesson for tomorrow and ciphered some. Heard there is to be a Donation for Mr.Ferris next Wednesday night at Charly Hanlons

DEC. 25: Rose at seven. Went down and got breakfast. After breakfast I got ready and Belle P.A. and I went up to Aunt Sarah’s. She is better now she thinks. Borrowed some papers from Julia to read. Came home and Belle P.A. & Gusta went down to the Burg

DEC.26: Rose early and got breakfast and made beds washed the clothes Got dinner, washed up the dishes. Could not go to school because Belle was here. After Gusta came home she cut out my apron for me and I sewed it up Got supper and washed dishes

DEC. 27: Rose early. Went down and got breakfast. Phine washed dishes. I swept the floors and did the mopping. Pared some apples to stew also for Pies. Made Pies and Biscuit. Did the ironing. Got supper and in the evening sewed on my apron

DEC. 28: Rose early. Went down and got breakfast and then Belle and I went up to Eudice Thorp’s with Pa. He was going to Troy. We staid to Eudice’s until eleven then we all went to Aunt Eunice’s and took dinner, then we went up to Mr.Deweys Pa came back & staid there

DEC.29: We rose before. Went down and prepared for breakfast. We all staid to Mr.Deweys last night After breakfast Pa went up to the Irish woods and Belle Adaline and I went up to school. Came back, took dinner and went down to Aunties and Pa was there. Ate some apples . Drank some cider & went home

DEC. 30: When we was going home last night Mr.Baldwin came out and wanted Pa to open a letter to Mr.Kleeney(?) so she could read it; Pa put in his pocket and drove on He wrote it as a recommend for her. Got breakfast and washed dishes. Got ready went to school Belle went with me. After school we went over to see what Mrs.Robbins wanted of me She wanted me to fix Lizzies dress for her and I did so after supper

DEC.31: Rose early made beds cleaned out the rooms above, swept the floors Got breakfast washed dishes, mopped the floors Belle finished Lizzies dress for me and just got it done as she came down for it. I was mopping when she came. Swept the cellar Got supper or help get it washed the dishes then Belle P.A. Pa and I went up to Watch- meeting. Came back at eleven. We started before and got down by the Bridge and she missed one of her Gloves so we went back again. Gusta is sick. Expect to go to Smithfield if we get up in time
