31-Mar D Brewster, Hon. Jonah Death of Judge Brewster---Hon. Jonah Brewster, a well known and highly esteemed citizen of this County, died at his residence in Delmar Twp., at half past ten O'Clock, last Sunday Evening. He was born at Windham, Conn., on the 23rd of February, 1780. Soon after reaching manhood, he moved to near Cooperstown, Otsego County, N. Y., where he remained until 1811. In that year he moved to Susquehanna Co., in this state, which was then comparatively new. In 1816, only 5 years after his removal thither, he removed to this County, residing for a few years at Tioga Village, and subsequentely at this or near this Boro. In 1830 he was appointed Prothonotary of the County, and served in that laborious position until January, 1836. In 1841, he was appointed to the office of associate Judge, which he held for a period of 10 years. In addition to the several positions above mentioned, he was a member of the Electoral College, from this Congressional District, in 1844, and again in 1848. Judge B. leaves a numerous and respec

31-Mar   Guernsey, Newbury E. Died in Tioga, the 27th. inst., of Small Pox, Newbury E., son of Joseph W. and Julia Guernsey, aged 1 year, 9 mos., and 3 days. It is singular to observe, that the child whose death is here recorded, and who was a great grandson of Judge Brewster, preceded his venerable ancestor in his entrance into the spirit world, by a single day.

02-Jun D Ives, Eveline and Michael Jasper San Calamity--Two children drowned---We are indebted to our friend, B. B. Holiday, of Crooked Creek, for the particulars of the following casualty, which occurred near Bennett's Mills, in Middlebury, on Saturday last. It seems that Mr. Versal D. Ives was at work in his garden, which is separated from his house by a stream of water, over which there is a foot bridge, and about which his two younger children started for the garden to call him to dinner. It is supposed that in attempting to cross the bridge they fell into the water; or that one, in falling, dragged the other from the bridge. They were not seen by Mr. Ives, who soon returned to his house, when his wife inquired for the children. The father, learning of their absence, started at once for the creek, and about 25 rods below the bridge, discovered the body of his little daughter, lying by a log with her face down in the water. The little boy had floated about 3 rods farther down. The father rescued the bodies from the water, and immediately used ever

28-Apr D Lewis, Mrs. Martha Died in Charleston on the 15 inst., Mrs. Martha Lewis, in the 61st year of her age. Sister Lewis was a highly esteemed member of the Charleston Baptist Church. She----spent more than two score years in the service of God. In this, her adopted land, she has been called to follow her husband and two sons to the grave--leaving two daughters and their families to mourn their loss.

26-May O Sykes, Mr. Samuel Obituary---(Published by request)--Mr. Samuel Sykes, departed this life, May 1, 1858, in the 53d year of his age, at his residence, in Mansfield, Tioga County, Pa. Friend Sykes removed from Sykesville, Burlington Co. New Jersey, in the year 1831 to this township, where he remained until removed by the hand of death. He was brought up by the order of the Friends. His last illness---was but two short weeks---a loving sister came from his native town just in time to console him---this dear little wife stood at his bedside by night and day, administering aid to her dying husband.
