Gibson, Rev. Otis L. |
Died last Tue., morning a
telegram was received in this borough announcing the death of Rev. Otis L.
Gibson, which occurred very suddenly last week Monday at Otsego, Mich. His
health had been poor for about a year, and a few weeks before his death he had
been threatened with an attack of typhoid fever. Mr. Gibson was born in Pomfret,
Vt., in July 1831, and he came to this co., when about 7 yrs of age. Most of his
boyhood days were spent in Charleston twp. He began life for himself as a clerk
in the store of Messrs. C. & J. L. Robinson in this borough, and afterwards was
in the employ of the Methodist Book Concern in New York City. He was graduated
at Genesee College, then located at Lima, NY about 20 yrs ago, and entered the
ministry. His first pastorate was at Troy, Bradford Co. He was pastor of the
Methodist Episcopal Church in this village in 1867-8-9, during which period the
present church edifice was erected. He was also pastor of Hedding Church in
Elmira for 3 yrs. Mr. Gibson, on account of his health, |
