IDA DEWING - A life well lived is a precious gift of hope and strength

facial feature was a big smile and she was always up for a good laugh. Passions
in life for Ann included the aforementioned family, travel, her many friends,
sports, being active and a nice cozy fire. Always a lover of nature, she would
often share stories of the many pets from her youth including her crows Cawkey
and Chawkey and her horses that she rode, showed and taught to count. In more
recent years, she enjoyed regular walks around the "country block" with family
and her beloved dog Mazzie. Ann also had an affinity for gardening, plants and
flowers. While her kids liked to joke that this turned the house into a jungle
in the colder months, their home and property always looked beautiful,
year-round. This also attracted many birds which she loved to watch, especially
her favorite, hummingbirds. Ann was a 1961 graduate of Mansfield High School and
Bradford School of Nursing. Following school, Ann worked as a stewardess for
Mohawk Airlines and Overseas National Airways where she got to travel and see
the world. She then worked for decades in the noble field of nursing as an LPN,
serving and caring for scores of others. Ann was also a member of many
organizations including, Bakerburg Community Church, Ladies Missionary Group,
Ladies Spiritual Life Day, Weight Watchers and the local YMCA. Ann was
predeceased by her brother Dick ('91), her parents Eloise ('98) and Harold ('02)
Chamberlain, and is also survived by her sister and best friend, Carol. As Annie
was called to be with her Lord and Savior, she will be missed by many, but her
finest traits will live on through her children, her grandkids, and the many
lives that she has touched and made a positive impact on. A Celebration of Life
will be held for Ann at Bakerburg Community Church on an upcoming date, to be
determined. In lieu of flowers, Ann has requested that any donations be sent to
one of her favorite organizations: Shirner's Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky
Point Drive, Tampa, FL. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 637 S. Main St.,
Mansfield, is assisting the family. -Wellsboro Gazette 11/7/2019

ROBERT P. HASTINGS - “Everyone’s different” was an
oft repeated Bob-ism. On Nov. 17, 2019, Robert P. “Bob” Hastings, a unique soul,
reunited with Eleanor, the love of his life for over 70 years. Even in death,
she was as alive to him as the day they met. As well as his wife, Bob was
predeceased by his parents, Matthew and Belle (Lynch) Hastings; two of his
brothers and one of their wives, Jack Hastings, and Matthew and Katie Hastings;
his sister and her husband, Marie and Gerald Shaughnessy; his sister-in-law,
Eleanor K. Hastings; and his brothers-in-law and their spouses, Roy and Betty
Edsell and Paul and Milrea Edsell. He is survived by his brother, Paul Hastings;
his sister-in-law, Gloria Hastings; his five children, Richard (Kathie)
Hastings, Theresa (Jack) Casterlin, Michael (Karen) Hastings, Joseph (Louis
Wechsler) Hastings, Gerald (Sandy Smith) Hastings; eight grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren. His civic responsibility was evidenced by helping found the
Little Meadows Fire Department (later serving as its chief), serving on the
borough town board, maintaining the church hall for weekly bingo games and other
social events and being recognized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for
voting in every election over a 50 year period. Bob was a member of the IBM
Quarter Century Club with over 32 years of service at IBM Owego. In later years,
it’s understandable that some of Bob’s visitors could be left glassy-eyed by a
seemingly endless series of Bob-tales infused with quizzical Bob-isms. The
family would like to thank all those friends, neighbors and extended family who
took their time over the past several years to routinely stop in to visit and
provide companionship for Dad, especially Jim Maus, a neighbor we would all be
blessed to have. A special thanks to the staff of Elizabeth Church Manor
particularly Danielle, Annette, and Diane; the private aides; and hospice
professionals for their tender care. The family will receive friends from 10 to
11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019 at Church of the Holy Family, Endwell, NY
followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery,
Little Meadows. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Little Meadows
Fire Department. -Towanda Daily Review 11/23/2019
HAYES -BARBARA LOUISE (HAYES) HOWARD - On Oct. 26,
2019, Barbara Louise (Hayes) Howard of Tampa, FL, formerly of Montrose, PA was
called home peacefully with her family at her side. She was 85 years young.
Barbara was born to Lester and Miriam Hayes in Binghamton, NY. Her childhood was
spent exploring the mountains and streams in Birchardville Township nestled in
the Endless Mountains area of Pennsylvania. She also loved riding horses,
especially her beloved Dolly, and caring for various farm animals, usually the
runts. In 1951 Barbara graduated from Montrose High School where she was already
admired for her artistic abilities. She was an exceptionally gifted artist, a
talent passed to her from her father and which she passed to several of her
children and grandchildren. Any piece of paper lying around the house would
often be filled with her drawings, usually consisting of people or horses. She
could draw, paint and create anything. She had a special gift with painting
portraits as she had the uncanny ability to capture the “life” in the eyes of
the person she created on canvas. She blessed many families with portraits of
their loved ones and several portraits painted by Barbara graced the walls of a
local church and numerous homes. Her talents stretched beyond drawings and
paintings to building and landscaping. One of her best creations was a working
waterfall in her backyard with a stream, two ponds (the fish were fighting) and
a little bridge over the stream. Over the years you would often find her sitting
in her backyard drinking coffee, feeding her fish and enjoying the cascading
water as it fell down the waterfall, traveled through the stream and into the
ponds. Barbara was a single parent for most of her life, raising her children to
adulthood on her own. She also enjoyed helping with her grandchildren and loved
to pick them up from school, go to their recitals, games and just spending time
with them. She was blessed late in life with a wonderful husband, John, and his
beautiful family. Barbara was preceded in passing by her brother, George Hayes
and sisters: Joan Roberson, Edith Brigham and Judith Maloney. She is survived by
her husband of eight years, John Howard Jr.; her five children, Diane Murphy,
John (Stacy) Murphy, James Murphy, Heather (Pat) Remek and Vicki (Dan) Killeen.
She is survived by her nine stepchildren, John (Susan) Howard III, Linda (Jon)
Cohen, Richard (Debbie) Howard, Susan (Ray) Brigham, Dorothy (Steve) Callum,
Thomas (Jean) Howard, Debbie (Bill) Minturn, David (Susan) Howard and Melissa
(Jason) Nowland. She is survived by her sisters, Priscilla (Charles) Ellis and
Dorothy (Dick) Joyce and her in-laws, Robert and Maryann Brigham and Sandy
Hayes. She is also survived by 34 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren,
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m.
on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Birchardville Baptist Church with burial to follow at
the church cemetery. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at Idlewild
Baptist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to

FREEMAN EUGENE HONEYWELL, 88, passed away Thursday,
Nov. 7, 2019. Freeman was a humble country boy who was born on Aug. 10, 1931 to
Cory and Leona Honeywell in Sugar Run. He was raised among the plentiful dairy
farms and sparse industrial opportunities of Northeastern PA. He always claimed
that he would walk five miles to school, barefoot, uphill both ways in the snow
to ensure his success. He excelled in school where he played on several
championship teams in both basketball and baseball, but what he was most proud
of during his years in school were his two older brothers that both enlisted in
the Navy shortly after the start of WWII in the summer of 1942. It was his
admiration of his older brothers that started his desire to also serve his
country. He was so happy to see them when they returned home on leave, and he
would beam with pride as he accompanied them anywhere while they were in
uniform. He finally had the opportunity to serve his country after he graduated
from high school in 1949. He had a huge interest in airplanes and spent any
spare time he had building model airplanes like the ones that were flown in
WWII, so he followed his love for airplanes into enlisting in the United States
Air Force in 1950 where he was assigned to the 9th Bombardment Squadron at
Carswell Air Force Base. He progressed as a personnel and administrative
assistant before being deployed to England in the summer of 1951. Following his
return to the United States, he met and fell in love with a beautiful young
woman named Patricia Ann Engel. They were married on June 1, 1952. On that day
she became Patricia Honeywell to everyone else in the entire world, but in the
eyes of Freeman Honeywell she became Queen Pat. You will never know a look of
unadulterated love and unending infatuation like the look he gave her after 67
years of wedded bliss. He soon ended his active duty career in 1954 and enlisted
in the Air Force Reserve on the very next day. He began the next phase of his
career making parts for the B-38s and FB-111s. During this time he also attended
night classes at TCU to advance his career to better provide for his family.
There were big changes happening as the B-36s were being replaced by B-52s and
KC-135s, but the biggest changes were happening at home as their family was
getting bigger. Randall Eugene was born on Jan. 9, 1957, Rhonda Ann on July 5,
1959, and William Cory on Jan. 22, 1962. He took an active role in raising his
children as a coach for several championship basketball and baseball teams.
While he was busy leading his family, he also continued progressing in his
military career. He became a Master Sergeant in 1962 as he started his new
career in the civil engineering section of the first Air Force Reserve unit
located on Carswell Air Force Base, where he thrived and prospered into a
supervising position responsible for hiring and training new personnel in 18
different career fields. He took great pride in developing his team at the
highest level possible to attain the well-deserved reputation of the most
qualified and prepared crew available. It was for this reason that his unit was
chosen to be deployed to Rhein-Main Air Force Base in Germany, just outside
Frankfurt in 1973. His unit successfully completed many projects while
constantly training and preparing for the possibility of attack from Russia.
After his successful deployment to Germany, his unit returned to the U. S.
before later being deployed in 1976 to Howard Air Force Base in the Panama Canal
where the C- 130 Gunships trained. This was his last deployment as Master
Sergeant Honeywell as he was promoted to Chief Master Sergeant in 1979, the
highest enlisted grade in the Air Force. This was also the moment, unbeknownst
to him, that was bestowed a nickname that would remain with him for the rest of
his life. His team successfully navigated deployments to Sembach Air Base in
Germany in 1979, where they worked predominantly on Thunderbolt A-10s. Then to
San Vito dei Normanni Air Base in Italy in 1982, before heading back to Germany
in 1985. This stay in Germany was much different than the other tours because it
was in Berlin, which was still occupied by Russia at this time before the Berlin
Wall came down four years later in 1989. While deployed there, permission still
had to be obtained from Russia to travel into East Berlin and no aircrafts were
permitted there except cargo planes and they could only travel in one specific
airfield, which had to be approved beforehand. This created a very tense
environment for his unit, but the very reason they were chosen for this mission
was because his crew represented the best the United States Air Force Reserve
had to offer. His final deployment outside the U. S. was to Torrejon Air Base in
Spain in 1988. He was also deployed to several different bases within the United
States to assist in constructing and repairing air bases to accommodate the
growing and evolving military needs. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in
1991 after 41 years of active and reserve duty. His esteemed career left much to
be respected and envied by those with whom he served. He was known for promoting
an environment of respect and encouragement as he exemplified the “golden rule”
of “treat others the way you want to be treated.” He traded in his role as Chief
Master Sergeant for his title of simply, “Chief.” Father, Grandfather,
Great-Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, and Husband, but always Chief. He was always
excited to hear about your latest accomplishments and never afraid to convey his
pride. He never left without letting you know you were loved, whether it be by a
hug and a kiss, or a handshake and a nod, he made sure his feelings were known.
He upheld this role of family patriarch, fearless leader, selfless provider, and
unyielding protector until he laid his badge down as our Chief for the last time
on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019. He will forever be remembered by family, friends, and
fellow servicemen as an honorable, hard-working, honest, fair, loving and proud
man. A pride for his country he served, pride for the accomplishments he
achieved in his illustrious career, and pride in the family he helped create and
nurture for 67 years. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Cory Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Honeywell; brother, Robert Honeywell;
children and their spouses, Randy and Gail Honeywell, Rhonda and Sam Plog and
Cory and Andria Honeywell; grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy and Bonnie
Cochran, James Patterson, Daneisha Davis, Jason and Rachel Cochran, Heather
Honeywell, David Patterson, Ben Cochran, Makenzie Honeywell, Trey Plog and
Bethany Plog, and great- grandchildren, Logan, Dallas, Dylan, Lauren, Brooklynn,
Taylor and Ryan. “It was a cold day in hell that 7th day of November… The angels
were emptying their happy tear buckets on us, rejoicing in song and dance
because one of the strongest men I’ve ever known is home with his King. Grandpa
Chief never failed to amaze me with his stories, raise me into a strong little
soldier and always steer me in the right direction. His love for my dad, grandma
and the rest of this family was out of this world and could never be touched.
God placed such a beautiful man here in this not so beautiful world to serve and
live through him. Grandpa Chief, it is an honor to be called your granddaughter,
a legacy of a legend. Now you go home, meet your savior, hold my brother in your
arms and go ahead and grab that front row seat with Popi for my graduation in
May because I wouldn’t have gotten here without you. Your story isn’t over, it’s
just written in the stars now. I hereby honorably discharge you from this fight,
Chief— onto the next.”

PHILIP P. HUSICK
- He played basketball for more than four decades. Pitched softball into his
70s. And was loved and respected by his family and friends every single day of
his life. - Philip P. Husick, 86, of Sayre, Pa., passed away after a brief
illness on Monday, Oct. 14, 2019 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Philip was born to his parents Peter and Bertha Wertz Husick on June 14, 1933 in
Sayre. He attended Sayre High School, where he played basketball and football.
He graduated in 1951. After graduation, he served in the Army during the Korean
War. He returned to Sayre and married his high school sweetheart Kay Hancock on
Nov. 5, 1955. They raised six children together and took care of each other
right up to the very end. Phil Husick worked hard nearly every day that his body
allowed him to stand. He co-owned Husick Brothers Painting and Contracting with
his brother Richard Husick, who was also his best friend. Together they painted
outside in the heat of the summer, wallpapered inside during the winter, and
scraped and scraped continuously. Because that is what good painters do. But if
work was important to Phil, playing was even more essential. He and Kay were
avid bowlers for many years. Phil played in local basketball leagues across the
Valley and in Towanda. “I played with him in adult pickup games during the
‘80s,” his son Rich said. “He was in his 50s then and was still hitting his
two-hand set shot from the top of the key. Nobody was shooting set shots then,
but he kept burying his.” Few people on the planet have likely played in as many
softball games as Phil Husick. He pitched wherever and whenever he could,
playing in co-ed, semifast and big ball leagues throughout his adult life. When
he did relax, he was watching sports on television. He loved his St. Louis
Cardinals and, later in life, became passionate about watching the UCONN women’s
basketball team. “My niece Kelly Thomas was a standout basketball player for
Waverly and he loved watching her play,” said his son Rich. “I think that is
when he came to respect and later love women’s basketball. Somehow it was all
tied in together for him.” He was a member of the Ukes club and Sons of Italy.
Phil is survived by his wife Kay Hancock Husick, his sons and daughters: Lura
(Denny) Thomas, Wanda Husick, Robin Ciardi, Philip Husick II, Tanya Husick, and
Richard (Laurie Cossaboon) Husick. He is also survived by his furry son Toby. He
has five grandchildren: Andrew and Derek (Stephanie) Ciardi, Dr. Kelly Thomas,
Philip Husick III (Eszi Waters) and Natalie Husick Schroeder (William III). He
had three great-grandchildren: Cameron Ciardi, Billy Schroeder, and Edie
Devine-Waters. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Jane (Robert)
Galvin, Irene Koons, Richard Husick, Joyce Miller, Gloria Husick, and Joseph
Husick. Also his sister and brother-in-law Paula and Joseph Roberts. Also two
dear cousins Elizabeth Kochin and Ken Wertz. He is survived by numerous nieces
and nephews and cousins. Phil was predeceased by his parents Peter and Bertha
Wertz Husick and brothers-in law Thomas Koons and Bruce Miller. Also numerous
uncles, aunts and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, Oct.
17, 2019 at the Sayre VFW, 932 W. Lockhart St., Sayre, Pa., from 6-8 p.m. Full
military honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made
to Stray Haven, 194 Shepard Road, Waverly, NY or Bradford County Humane Society,

BRIAN L. STEIN, age 69, of Laceyville, was brought
home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, Oct. 23, 2019, at his home with
his loving family by his side. Brian was born on May 15, 1950, in Macungie, the
son of the late Martin and E. Marie Leh Stein. He moved to Spring Hill in the
early 1960’s and graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1968. After high school
he attended Albright College before serving his country in the U.S. Navy in the
Mediterranean. When he returned home, he obtained his teaching degree from Penn
State University. He was employed with the Wyalusing Valley High School as a
metal arts and computer aided drafting teacher for many years before retiring in
2005. Brian wanted to make a difference and did so many ways: by being an
engaging and inclusive teacher and coach and through volunteering for his
church, the Braintrim Baptist Church, for several church ministries, the
Laceyville Borough Council, and at the Oldest House. He was a gifted storyteller
(like his mother) who looked out for those who needed extra attention. The best
in his character was marked by an outpouring of love and passionate interest. He
thoroughly enjoyed metalworking, woodworking, hunting, fishing, traveling, and
good food. He loved music too of course, singing in the church choir and at
school dances. He was the consummate actor, a big tough guy on the outside but
easily misty eyed by a touching lyric, movie moment, or a sermon. At times he
struggled to find the best way forward on the path of life, he had an unshakable
faith in the goodness and realness of God. If an opportunity was closed it meant
to him that something better was in store. Brian was a farm boy, a sailor, a
teacher with a prowess for the mechanical, and a loving son, brother, husband,
dad, grandpa, and uncle. Most importantly he was a lover of Jesus and child of
God. His family is blessed to have such a rich volume of memories. With a deep
sadness in their hearts, they do take joy that he is no longer bound by
mortality. Brian is survived by his wife, Carol Stein, whom he married on July
27, 1974 of home; his daughter, Deborah Zweers and her husband, Koen of Baarn,
Netherlands; his grandson, Philippe Zweers; his brother and three sisters; as
well as many nieces and nephews. A private burial was held at the Lacey Street
Cemetery. A memorial service for Brian will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct.
27, 2019 from the Braintrim Baptist Church with his brother-in-law, Reverend
Richard Vieldhouse officiating. Family and friends are welcome from 2 p.m. until
the time of the service on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019 for a visitation at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Brian’s name to the
Braintrim Baptist Church, P.O. Box 281, Laceyville, PA. Arrangements are
entrusted with Sheldon Funeral Homes, 459 Main St., Laceyville. -Towanda Daily
