WILLIAM WOODFORD ADAMS of Plainfield, Mass., passed
away peacefully at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Mass., June 4,
2019. Born Jan. 23, 1953 at Blossburg State Hospital in Blossburg, he was the
eldest child of Rexford and Dorothy (Johnson) Adams. He grew up in Covington,
and graduated from North Penn Jr. Sr. High School. From there, he went to
Franklin and Marshall College where he earned a Bachelor's degree in History. To
further his education, he attended Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Conn.
where he received his Master's degree in Divinity. Several years later, William
attended Western Massachusetts School of Law from which he graduated Cum Laude
with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. He practiced law since that time handling
both local civil cases and working for the Massachusetts Committee for Public
Counsel Services handling appellate cases with the Massachusetts judicial
system. Also, later in life, William attended the Hellenic College and Holy
Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Mass. He held very strong
Christian beliefs and, at the time of his passing, attended St. George's Greek
Orthodox Church in Pittsfield, Mass. where he was the choir director.
Funeral services were held at St. George's on June 7, with Father John
Maharas leading the Funeral Mass. William had a quest for knowledge, loved to
read, was fluent in multiple languages, was very active in his local community,
was quick-witted with a great sense of humor and was loved by those who had the
privilege of knowing him. He is survived by sisters Janet (William) McNeal,
Barbara (Scott) Miller and brothers Dan (Suki) Adams, and Justin Adams. William
was predeceased by brothers Gene and Patrick and sister Donna. -Wellsboro

ALDRICH -GAIL D. HACKETT, age 71 of Hornell, NY
passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Highland Hospital in Rochester. Born
July 14, 1948 in Wellsboro, she was the daughter of the late Loren and Margaret
(Wood) Aldrich. Gail worked at the Westfield Tannery and Westin Company. She
loved her family. Gail is survived by her husband, Walter C. Hackett; son,
William Hackett of Hornell; grandchildren, Kyle (Kelly) Hackett, Reese Hackett,
Haley (Joe) Hetzler, Giovinna and Denise Hackett and great grandchildren, Westin
Hetzler and Cameron Hackett. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Deven, 3
sisters and 1 brother. Private services will be held at the convenience of the

ANDRUS -ANN MARIE ANDRUS SANCHEZ passed away March
27, 2019 peacefully at her home in Napa, Calif., following a lingering illness.
Ann was born Nov. 23, 1934 in Sayre, Pa., to Joel and Dorothy Andrus. She grew
up in Waverly, N.Y., and attended RPH School of Nursing. Ann loved gardening,
painting, cooking, playing guitar, the ocean and, most of all, Waverly, N.Y. Ann
is predeceased by her parents, siblings, Norman and David, and, most recently,
her sister Susan Andrus Rogers. Ann is survived by her husband, Charles Sanchez,
children, Miguel (Harriet), Andres (Doreen) and Aleja (Carl), all of California,
grandson Carlos of Chicago, Ill., and siblings Janet Andrus and John Andrus of
Waverly, N.Y. Ann is also survived by several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Waverly Historical Society or Stray
Haven. There will be a memorial service in her remembrance at her home in Napa,

DAVID M. AULT, 72, of Muncy, passed away on Tuesday,
July 16, 2019, at his home. He was the husband of Donna J. Feigles Ault with
whom he married on May 22, 1965 and shared 54 years of marriage. David was born
in Williamsport, on Wednesday, March 19, 1947, and was the son of the late
Robert M. and Carolyn E. Zarr Ault. David worked as a production scheduler for
over 25 years at Sprout Waldron. He then went on to retire after working for 13
years at Muncy Homes in 2008. David, also known as the Elvis of Muncy, enjoyed
sitting on his porch and listening to music, family gatherings, riding his
four-wheeler, singing Elvis, and he and Butch's frequent visits with friends at
the Muncy VFW and the Muncy Moose. He is survived by his wife, Donna, three
daughters, Crystal L. (Paul) Chamberlain, of Muncy, Faith A. (Jack III) Stewart,
of Muncy, and Nikki R. (Jerry) Stepp, of Muncy; a sister, Margaret L. Boyles, of
Williamsport; three granddaughters and four grandsons, Lindsey (Mike) Eck,
Alicia Chamberlain, Jack Stewart IV, Matthew Stewart, Anthony David Stepp, Katie
(Cameron) Arthur, and Tyler Stepp; four great-grandchildren, Blake, Peyton,
Jackson, and Addisyn; a lifelong best friend of 64 years, Butch T. (Peach)
Brittain, of Muncy; and by the family four-legged friend âSugar.ã, In addition
to his parents, David is predeceased by an infant daughter, Deanna Ault, and by
a sister, Victoria E. Ault. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July
20, at McCarty~Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev.

Dr. ELLSWORTH EDGAR 'ELLIE'
BARBER, 98, of Mansfield, passed away on July 4, 2019. He was surrounded by
loved ones at Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarence,
N.Y. Ellie was born on Aug. 15, 1920, on the
family farm in Lawrenceville, to Victor Ward and Jennie DeGroff Barber. While
serving as an officer in the Navy during WWII, he married his college
sweetheart, Virginia "Gina" Silverthorne Altenderfer. After the war, he attended
the University of Pennsylvania and obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
degree in 1950. He and Gina moved to Mansfield where he served the community as
a veterinarian for large and small animals.
After the untimely death of Gina, he found love again with Elizabeth "Betty"
Snyder. As partners in life, they and Betty's son, Dan, shared many wonderful,
active years together. Ellie was also preceded in death by his parents, Victor
and Jennie; his sister, Evelyn Middaugh; his granddaughters, Tiffany Barber
(infant) and Bailey Good; and Betty's daughter, Gaye Lynn Snyder.
Survivors include his life partner, Betty and his
children, Diane L. Barber, Gary E. (Cathy) Barber, Sandra B. (Mike) Good and
Janis E. (Cary) Brown. Betty's children are Carolyn (John) Snyder-Husted and Dan
(Jacqueline Fatta) Snyder. His grandchildren are Cory and Kaitlin O'Brien,
Christopher Barber, and Andrew and Taylor Brown. Betty's grandchildren are Tyler
(Geoff) Husted-Bachrodt, Colby Husted, Mitch Snyder and Ashley Smith and
great-grandson Declan Bachrodt. There are many nieces, nephews and loved ones.
As requested by Dr. Barber, there will be a private,
family graveside service. Pastor Stuart Hague will officiate. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to Buckheit Funeral Chapel in Mansfield. The

BARROWCLIFF -Mrs. SHIRLEY ANN CANFIELD, age 88, of
Laceyville, PA passed away on Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 2019 at the United
Methodist Home, in Tunkhannock. Shirley was born in Ulster Township, Bradford
County on June 16, 1931, the daughter of the late Cyreno and Doris Barrowcliff.
Growing up in Bradford County, Shirley was a graduate of the Towanda High School
with the class of 1949. After her graduation from high school, Shirley was a
telephone operator, in Towanda. On April 17, 1951 she married Harold E.
Canfield, of Laceyville, who was serving his country, as a Military Policeman in
the US Army, stationed in Germany and later at Ft. Knox, KT. After their
marriage and Harold’s discharge from the service, Shirley and Harold moved to
the Laceyville area. For over 30 years, Shirley was employed as a seamstress at
the Meshoppen Dress Factory, retiring in 1995.
Throughout her life, Shirley enjoyed reading and painting in her spare
time. She also cherished the time that she got to spend with her family. Besides
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Harold E.
Canfield, who passed away earlier this year, on Feb. 8, 2019. She was also
preceded by two brothers, Buddy Barrowcliff, and Harvey Barrowcliff and three
sisters, Barbara (Barrowcliff), Nancy (Barrowcliff) and Phyllis (Barrowcliff).
Surviving is her daughter and her husband, Diane and Robert Betsko, of Sun
Lakes, AZ and her son and his wife, Russell and Marilyn Canfield, of Laceyville.
She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her
sister-in-law, Doris Williams, of Sun Lakes, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
With abiding by Shirley’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral
services. There will be a memorial service at a later date at the convenience of
her family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the
Laceyville Public Library, P.O. Box 68, Laceyville, PA. Arrangements were made

BARRY -JEANNE FOLEY, 80, of Dawsonville passed away
Wednesday June 19, 2019 at The Phoenix at Lake Lanier following a period of
declining health. Born February 9, 1939 in Dushore, Pennsylvania to the late
Edward and Amelia Barry, she and Mr. Foley bought al lake home in Dawson County
in 1986 and became full time residents 19 years ago having moved from Marietta.
Mrs. Foley worked many years as a nurse, mostly in emergency room care. Jeanne
was an extremely devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid tennis
player and enjoyed life on the lake. She was a member of Christ the Redeemer
Catholic Church. Surviving are her children, Linda Lackey, Dawsonville, Maureen
and Jack Jones, Harrisburg, NC, Terry and Cindy Foley, Alpharetta;
grandchildren, Nicole Goldsmith, Erica Watson, J. B. Jones, Tori Jones, Lauren
Dwyer, Easton Foley, Erin Foley; three great grandchildren; sister and brother
in law, Kathy and Bob Vitali, South Burlington, Vermont; and a number of other
relatives. A memorial mass will be held Saturday June 29, 2019 at 11 o’clock at
Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Fr. Brian Higgins will officiate. The

GLENN PICKERING 'SKIP' BASTIAN JR., age 66, of
Mansfield, PA passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019 at The Green Home in
Wellsboro. He was born on March 23, 1953 in Blossburg, a son of Glenn and Martha
(Bogaczyk) Bastian. Skip was married to Cynthia "Cindy" (Hafer) Bastian. He was
self employed as a contractor. Skip was a member of the Mainesburg United
Methodist Church and the Tioga County Bass Anglers. He enjoyed bass fishing and
spending time with family. Skip is survived by his wife, Cindy Bastian; his
mother, Martha (Bogaczyk) Bastian; two daughters, Sarah Marie (Shane) Stryker of
Hillsborough, NJ, Katie (Kevin Bennage) Bastian of Lock Haven; a brother, Scott
(Deborah) Bastian of Mansfield; a sister, Barb (Will) Kelly of Blossburg; and a
granddaughter, Skylar Stryker. He was preceded in death by father, Glenn

GEORGE S. BEACH, 75, of Greensburg, Pa., formerly of
Sayre, Pa., passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 in the Excela Health
Westmoreland Hospital. He was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Sayre, Pa., a son of the
late Clarence and Henrietta Swingle Beach. Prior to moving to Greensburg to be
closer to his son, he was a Eucharist Minister at Epiphany Church in Sayre and
along with his wife, worked with the Marriage Encounter program of the church.
George was a Quality Control Manager for IBM and Lockheed Martin and also
enjoyed playing golf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
two brothers, Richard and Duane Beach; and his sister, Phyllis Jackson. He is
survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Kathleen Carretto Beach;
two children, Laura A. Spencer (David) of Roanoke, Va., and David M. Beach
(Christine) of North Huntingdon, Pa.; five grandchildren, Joshua and Morgan
Chacona, Jonah Spencer and Ryan and Jenna Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no public viewing. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate
the life of George at his funeral Mass at 1 p.m. in the Our Lady of Grace
Church, Greensburg. Internment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. In

DONALD R. (DONKEY) BLAKEMAN, 84, passed away
peacefully at home on June 4, 2019. Donkey was a true outdoorsman; he loved
hunting, fishing, trapping and gardening. He enjoyed watching the birds that
would visit the little sanctuary that he had for them in his front yard. Donkey
was the happiest when he was visiting with his many friends in the Valley and
taking long rides on the back roads. He often shared memories of hunting with
his son Mark in Colorado. He is predeceased by his parents Clearance and Agnes
(Chandler) Blakeman; sons Mark Blakeman of Montrose, CO, Michael Blakeman of
Athens, PA and longtime partner Patricia (Field) Glosenger. He is survived by
his sister Mary (Blakeman) Kohler of Waverly, NY; daughter-in-law Sheila (Walsh)

EARL LYMAN BLISS, JR.,
beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle,
passed away peacefully in his home on May 22, 2019 at the age of 90. He was born
in Wellsboro, March 20, 1929 and was the son of Martha Kemp Bliss and Earl Lyman
Bliss, Sr. He had three siblings, Donald Bliss, George Bliss, and Eileen Bliss
English, all who have passed. Earl enlisted in the Navy in 1947, completing boot
camp at the U.S. Naval Training in Great Lakes, Ill. He was stationed at Corpus
Christi and Hawaii. He worked as an aviation electrician and life guard during
the Korean War, training pilots to swim in case their planes went down in the
ocean. In 1951 he was discharged and got his teaching degree in 1955 at
Mansfield State College. Earl started teaching in Blossburg and then moved to
Liberty in 1956 where he continued to teach seventh and eighth grade history and
geography for 35 years at Liberty Junior/Senior High School. He was Liberty's
athletic director and coached basketball and baseball during his time in
Liberty. Earl was also Liberty's Justice of the Peace. He enjoyed his hobbies of
being an avid bee keeper, fishing with family in Alaska and Keuka Lake, N.Y. and
Pine Creek, and hunting on his land in Liberty. Earl celebrated 66 years of
"wedded bliss" with his wife Mariam Blackwell Bliss. They had two children, Ian
Enoch Bliss and Betsey Bliss Betz (Randal Betz). Together they enjoyed sharing
their love with five grandchildren and 13 precious great-grandchildren.
Earl will be greatly missed, but his memory will be
eternally cherished by everyone who had the sincere pleasure to know and love

BRADLEY -JOAN A.
(BRADLEY) SIEBEL, 80, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at
Darway Nursing Home. She was born April 23, 1939 in Elmira, N.Y., a daughter of
Fayette and Bernice (Huntsinger) Bradley. Joan
cared for the handicap in her home for 30 years. She was a member of the First
Church of Christ in Elmira, NY. Joan enjoyed taking care of others and watching
TV. Joan is survived by her sons and
daughters, William Siebel of Mansfield, Lori (Wayne) Roupp of Erie, Lisa Deacon
of Wellsboro, Jeffrey Siebel of Ephrarta, Ty (Dana) Siebel of Mansfield, and
Edward Siebel of Mansfield; two brothers, James (Mable) Bradley and Clair (Lois)
Bradley of Mansfield; one sister, Susan Treat of Georgia; ten grandchildren; and
one great-grandchild. She
was preceded in death by her husband, William Irvin Siebel and one sister,
Sharon Hughes. A memorial service will be

JEAN E. BRENCHLEY of State College passed away on
Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Juniper Village in State College. Born in Towanda, PA
March 6, 1944, she was the daughter of the late J. Edward and Elizabeth
(Jefferson) Brenchley. Jean is survived by her brother, James Brenchley
(Shirley) of LeRoy Township; her niece, Donna Field (Brian) and her nephews:
John Brenchley (Kimberly) and Michael Brenchley (Korey). Jean was predeceased by
her husband, Bernard Asbell. Jean graduated from Canton High School in 1962 and
received her B.S. degree in biology from Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA in
1965, after which she obtained a M.S. degree in marine microbiology from the
University of California, San Diego in 1967, followed by her Ph.D. degree in
microbiology from the University of California, Davis in 1970. She held a
one-year post-doctoral appointment in the Biology Department of MIT, Cambridge,
MA and then joined the faculty of Penn State’s Microbiology Department
(University Park) in 1971 as Assistant Professor and subsequently promoted to
Associate Professor. In 1977, Jean continued her teaching and research activity
at the Biological Sciences Department of Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN,
being promoted to Professor of Biology in 1979. From 1981 to 1984, she was
Research Director for Microbial Biochemistry at Genex Corporation, Gaithersburg,
MD before moving back to Penn State in 1984 as Head of the Department of
Microbiology and Cell Biology and also as founding Director of the Penn State
Biotechnology Institute which she established at the request of Penn State’s
President Bryce Jordan. Through extensive public appearances, she raised
millions of dollars for the institute and oversaw its design, construction and
outfitting. She established a fermentation pilot plant and directed the start of
short courses and workshops in which modern scale-up procedures were learned by
scientists from across the USA as well as from foreign countries. Upon
concluding administrative duties in 1990, she returned to research and teaching
as Professor of Microbiology and Biotechnology until her retirement with
emeritus status from Penn State in 2011. She trained numerous post-doctoral and
graduate students who subsequently have gone on to establish their own careers
as industrial, governmental and academic scientists; all credit her
encouragement and leadership qualities as important attributes of the training
they received under her direction. Among her many honors and awards received,
Jean was designated an Outstanding Alumna of Mansfield University (1983) and
awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Lycoming College (1992). She received
the Waksman Award for Outstanding Contributions in Microbiology from the
Theobald Smith Society (1985), the Alice Evans Award from the American Society
for Microbiology (1996) for her longstanding commitment to the professional
development of women in microbiology, and received a Research Career Development
Award from NIH (1976-1981). She was elected President of the American Society
for Microbiology (1986) and accepted as a Fellow of the American Academy of
Microbiology (1987). She later was named a Fellow of the American Association
for the Advancement of Science (1994) and a Fellow of the Society for Industrial
Microbiology (1998). Jean was recognized as a leader in the microbial sciences
by being selected as Editor for the Journal of Applied and Environmental
Microbiology (1981-1985) and for Microbiological Reviews (1992-1997). She
participated as a member of several microbiology journals’ editorial boards and
also was a frequent participant in groups examining the status of women
microbiologists and employment opportunities for women and minorities in
science, being the keynote speaker at the 2009 Symposium for Women in the
Sciences. Many of Jean’s professional papers and personal awards have been
donated by Jean and her family to the LeRoy Heritage Museum (associated with the
Bradford County Historical Society Museum in Towanda) for inclusion in a section
of the museum that features notable accomplishments of Bradford County natives.
Following her retirement, a colleague introduced Jean to fly fishing which
proved to be a great joy for her and offered considerable relaxation, along with
learning how easy it was to lose flies. She equally enjoyed meeting with and
teaching other women to fly fish, as evidenced by her years of active
participation with the Central Pennsylvania Women Anglers group. She could
always be counted on to illustrate rod assembly, attaching a fly, and getting
their fly line tangled. She also took pleasure in planting a small vegetable
garden which never failed to produce ample nutritious vegetables for neighboring
groundhogs, rabbits and deer. A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life is
planned for 11 a.m ., Aug. 31, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of
Centre County, 780 Waupelani Extension, State College. In lieu of flowers, those
persons wishing to support a cause valued and enjoyed by Jean are directed to
the LeRoy Heritage Museum, 257 Mill Street, Canton PA. Final arrangements are

BUCKNER -WILDA M. SEYMORE VANDERPOOL, 96 years old,
of Waverly, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at
Elderwood Nursing Home. She married the late Aaron Vanderpool in 1983, who
predeceased her; along with her parents, Elisha and Zora Buckner; her daughter,
Faye Frunk; a son, Tony Willis; and her brother, Lester Buckner. Wilda is
survived by her daughter, Linda and her husband, Wright Rantz of Maryland; son,
Wayne and Linda Willis of Louisiana; sister, Alta Jean Jones of Tennessee; two
step daughters, Sheila Bump and Lois Swackhammer of Pennsylvania; along with
many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two very special friends, Jerry and
Helen Ousterout of Florida; and a dear friend, Marilyn, that set and read to her
at the nursing home. Funeral services will be held in Tennessee at a later date.

MICHAEL JOSEPH BULKLEY passed away suddenly on July
2, 2019, at the age of just 42. He overcame much in his younger days to become a
respected and admired leader, father, family man, and friend. Overcoming
adversity and hard work defined Mike. If you ask anyone who worked with him,
everyone would say he was one of the hardest workers they ever knew. Mike was
employed by various companies who supported oilfield operations as a crew leader
for the last decade. He was known as a tireless worker, a knowledgeable teacher,
and had the unique combination as a supervisor who had a big heart and held
people accountable. He led by example. He will be remembered by his many
co-workers and oilfield brothers as a very special man. It is important for all
that worked with him for his family and children to know that he worked
remarkably hard because he wanted to provide a great life for them and to make
them proud of him of what he did everyday. He worked hard and as fast as he
could to get home to you. Outside of work, Michael was a very charismatic man
who was willing to drop anything to help his family and friends. He cherished is
children, as he always said, they were the motivation for his remarkable hustle.
Mike strived for greatness in all he did: as a husband, as a father, as a step
father, as a hunter, as a motorcycle enthusiast, and as a trusted friend.
Michael felt freedom in the woods and with nature. There is some peace in
knowing that he passed in a place where he was most comfortable. Although Mike
was only able to share 42 years with us on this earth, his legacy of excellence,
hard work, overcoming obstacles, never making excuses and honesty will be with
those who knew him for all of our lifetimes. He is survived by wife, Chrystal;
his children, Gabriella, Gavin, Caleb, Chelsie, Cody, Megan, and step son,
Tristan; father, Milton Ray Cody; mother, Helen Bulkley; sister, Tammy;
brothers, Jordan, Tracey, Neceya, Brian; sister, Sarah; and many uncles, aunts,

CAPARULO -ROSAMOND K. KEEFE passed with peace and
grace on July 23, 2019 with her loving daughter at her side.
Rosamond was born in Cameron Mills, New York, to Frank and Alice Cotton
Caparulo in 1924 and lived there much of her life. She married Herman S. Kahn on
Dec. 25, 1944. He predeceased her in 1964. She found love and happiness again
when she married James F. Keefe on April 1, 1967. He predeceased her in 1981.
Known as Rose she grew up during the deprivation of the Great Depression.
Supporting her widowed mother then and during the war years was very important
to her. During her childhood she attended a one room school. She graduated from
Addison High School in 1941 and Elmira Business Institute in 1942. She later
earned college credit from Penn State University. As a young woman, Rose worked
as secretary to a pathologist as St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira. When asked how
she could stand to take dictation during autopsies, she always said that she
never looked up. She also worked at Kennedy Valve as secretary to the purchasing
agent. Prior to moving to Towanda, in 1967, Rose was employed at Westinghouse
Electric Corporation in Bath, New York. While at Westinghouse, she served on the
Executive Board of the American Flint Glass Workers Union and was involved in
four contract negotiations. In Towanda, following her employment at Towanda
Wholesale she worked at the Bradford County Board of Assistance where she
retired after twenty one years of service. Like so many in her generation, Rose
believed strongly in service to her country, community, and family. In Cameron
Mills she was actively involved holding offices in the Methodist Church,
community wide chicken dinners, and Old Home Day festivities. She was Past
Matron of the Cameron Mills Order of Eastern Star. She served as election
inspector for many years for the Town of Rathbone and as an airplane observer
during the Korean War. In Towanda she served on the Parish Council at Saints
Peter and Paul Church and served as a Parish Outreach Visitor providing
companionship and Holy Communion to homebound parishioners. She was a familiar
face at the Bradford County Manor from her work for Bradford County and as a
frequent volunteer for activities with residents and in the gift shop. Rose
served as an AARP Tax Aide for ten years. She was a long time supporter of the
VFW, animal rights, and area animal shelters. Wherever she lived her lawns were
filled with beautiful flowers and bird feeders. When discovered by bears, she
dutifully hung her feeders every morning and brought them in every evening. She
did aerobics into her sixties and bowled into her eighties. She loved playing
her organ and made numerous tapes for her children and grandchildren. Rose
enjoyed traveling, square dancing, reading, quilting, knitting, crafts, and
lunch with her friends at Fran’s Landing. She loved family picnics and reunions.
Hers was a life well lived. Rosamond is survived by her daughter, Betsy (Donald)
Stiker; stepdaughter, Janet (Francis) Schrann; stepson, Edward (Dianne) Keefe;
brother, Frank (Vonnie) Caparulo; several grandchildren, great grandchildren,
nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in
death by sister, Phoebe Simons; brother, George Caparulo; grandson, Bret J.
Keefe; nephew, Tony Caparulo; and her companion pets Angie and Penny. Friends

CHAMBERLAIN -CAROL (CHAMBERLAIN) ALLARD, 80, of
Sayre, Pa., passed away early in the morning on June 23, 2019, following an
extended period of declining health. Carol was born on August 13, 1938 in
Watertown, N.Y., daughter of Irene and Lyle Chamberlain. Years later, it was at
the Stone Street Presbyterian Church in Watertown that she met and married the
love of her life, Lewis E. Allard. They celebrated 41 years of marriage before
Lewis passed in 1998. Carol graduated from Watertown High School in 1956. She
was a graduate of Elmira College, and received her Master’s Degree from
Plattsburgh State University. Carol enjoyed her years in the classroom as a
teaching assistant at Harlan Rowe Middle School in Athens, Pa., before moving
with her husband back to Watertown, N.Y. There she was employed by
Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, as a Resource room and Consultant Teacher, until
retiring. She often described her love of teaching and her joy in the time spent
with her students. After retirement, she eventually moved back to Athens/Sayre,
Pa. Carol’s passions included sewing, crafts, gardening, and cooking. Over her
lifetime, she enjoyed working with the Girl Scouts, school activities, helping
with the Salvation Army dinners, singing with the Valley Chorus and church
choirs, and working on church-related activities. She was an ordained Deacon
with the Presbyterian Church, and served for many years on the Boards in
Watertown, N.Y., Athens, Pa., and Waverly, N.Y. More recently, Carol became a
member of the Athens United Methodist Church in Athens, Pa. Carol will be
remembered for love of family and friends, her smile, and her favorite sayings,
“It is what it is, but it will become what you make of it” and “Eat dessert
first- Life is short.” Carol is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura
and Tim Teeter, of Pottstown, Pa., sister, Janet Chamberlain, of Greenwood,
S.C., brother, Larry Chamberlain, and his wife Alice, of Lexington, MI, brother,
Dennis Chamberlain, and his wife Mary, of Centennial, CO, and several nieces,
nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be
held Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at the Athens United Methodist
Church, 118 S Main St, Athens PA, with Rev. Helen Learn, pastor, officiating.

CHAPMAN -PENNY A. PALMER, 50, of Canton,
Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 8, 2019 while surrounded by
loved ones at the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Penny
Ann, “P.J.” to family, was born April 24, 1969 in Williamsport, a daughter of
the late Ralph H. Chapman II and Theora F. (Wilson) Stahle. Penny enjoyed music
and in younger years sang in her church’s choir. Following high school, she
attended and graduated from the Empire Beauty School, located in Williamsport.
On Aug. 16, 1997 she married her beloved partner, Robert “Sam” Palmer on top of
Cedar Ridge in Canton Township. For
several years, Penny assisted Sam as secretary/bookkeeper at the family’s
business, Palmers Garage & Towing in Canton until declining health no longer
permitted her to continue. Penny loved the outdoors and going for walks so to
enjoy all that nature had to offer.
She was a frog memorabilia collector and an avid reader.
Most important throughout life was her strong devotion to family and the times
spent caring for them, especially her grandchildren. In
addition to Sam, her husband of 21 years, surviving are her children and their
spouses, Angel (Stahle) Hutto of Canton, Richard Jr. and Kayla Stahle of Troy,
Thomas Huslander Jr., Hunter Palmer, Samantha Palmer and her Fiancé Brandon
Wilcox, all of Canton; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Rodnee, Kiah, Deegan, Talon,
Keenan, Kainan, Kamryn, Richard “Little Ricky,” Kinzleigh; siblings and their
spouses, Jerry Vittorio of Canton, Terina and Denny Marconi of Lock Haven, Patsy
VanDyke of Bloomsburg, Ralph Chapman and Becky Sechrist both of Roaring Branch;

HAROLD JOHN CHILSON, 62, of Sayre, Pennsylvania,
passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Robert Packer Hospital following an
extended illness. He was born on March 14, 1957 in Towanda,
Pennsylvania, the son of the late James and Anna Mae (Kelley) Chilson.
Harold was a graduate of Athens High School and also attended
Penn State College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Harold resided at
Keystone Manor and served as the recreational director. He was a dedicated
volunteer, delivering Meals on Wheels and at Sayre House. He enjoyed watching
TV, playing cards, especially poker, golfing and tennis.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #246 and the Disabled American
Veterans. He is predeceased by his brothers, William,
James, Michael, and David Chilson; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Wilma
Chilson; and his niece, Carey Ellis Cairns. Harold is
survived by his daughter, Jamie Heath of Summerfield, Florida; brother and
sister-in-law, Paul Lee and Beverly Chilson of Monroeton, Pennsylvania; sister,
Anna Mae Ellis of Summerfield; sisters-in-law, Linda Chilson of Watkins Glen,

LEWIS FITCH CLARK, JR., a native son of Waverly, but
a longtime resident of Highland, Ind., died on May 31, 2019 at age 89. He was
preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marjorie (Brown) Clark, and
his parents, Lewis F. Clark Sr. and Charlotte (Manning) Clark of Waverly. Lew is
survived by his seven children, Lewis F. Clark III of Chicago, Marjorie Clark of
Highland, Kathleen (Steven) Miller of Little Rock, Ark., James Clark of
Griffith, Ind., Dee (Sanusi) Mutuwa of Cedar Lake, Ind., Glenn Clark (Gregory
Lebel) of Takoma Park, Md., and Robert (Heather) Clark of Valparaiso, Ind. He
loved and was greatly loved by his 11 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren. Raised as an only child in Waverly, N.Y., he was a 1947
graduate of Waverly High School and, while local, a member of North Waverly
Chapel. Lew served in the Army during the Korean War, graduated from Trinity
College of Florida, where he met his wife, and retired after many years as a
manager at Inland Steel in East Chicago, Ind. Lew was a devoted follower of
Jesus Christ, and was a longtime elder at Christian Fellowship Church in
Hammond, Ind. His memory will be cherished for his friendly greeting, his big
laugh, the many visits he made to the sick and elderly, his faithful prayers,
and for the thousands of homemade cookies he gave in love. A celebration of
Lew’s life will be held at Christian Fellowship Church on what would have been

JAMES H. COLES, 88, of Troy, Pennsylvania, passed
away July 18, 2019, peacefully at home while surrounded by his loving family.
Jimmy, the only child was born Jan. 15, 1931, in Schwenksville, to the late Dr.
James G. Coles and Mila (Worthing) Coles. He attended Schwenksville High School
and graduated in 1949. Shortly after graduating, James enlisted in the United
States Air Force and proudly served during the Korean War as an Airman First
Class. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Rothenberger on March 30,
1952 in Saxton. They raised three children and shared 67 wonderful years
together. Jim was always a hard worker. He was a union electrician of IBEW Local
380 out of Collegeville, for 37 years and in the summer months, aside from his
full-time employment, paved and sealed driveways. Jim had a strong faith in his
Lord and Savior. He was a life member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in
Saxton, and a Deacon at the Heidelberg Reformed Church in Schwenksville. Jimmy
loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and watching Nascar racing. He was also an
avid antique collector. During his retirement Jim honed his talents restoring
his many wood and metal antiques he collected throughout the years. Surviving
are his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Marti (Terry) Detweiler of Troy, Faye
Kauffman of Towanda; son, James “Gaf” (Patty) Coles of Arizona; nine
grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild on the way; as
well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Jim was
predeceased by his parents, Dr. James Coles on Jan. 7, 1955 and his mother Mila
(Worthing) Coles on Aug. 24, 1957. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m.

-RUTH E. LANDON, 95, formerly of Landon Lane, Cogan House passed peacefully
Monday, July 15, 2019 at the Williamsport Home. Born July 9, 1924, in Cogan
House she was last living child of the late Clyde and Rella (Taylor) Connelly.
Ruth graduated from Liberty High School
and was a lifelong member of Cogan House Christian Church. She was a homemaker
who enjoyed raising her children on the farm and teaching them the core values
of life. Ruth was an exceptional cook and seamstress. Ruth may have told you she
lived a simple life; however, she was anything but that. She was a woman who
humbly served Jesus, her community, and her family with grace and generosity.
Whether you needed a hot cup of coffee, a meal, a listening ear, or a prayer,
Ruth knew how to make you feel welcome as soon as you entered her home.
Surviving are her children, Ann Marie Delong of North Carolina, David Landon of
Cogan Station, Steven Landon (Cynthia) of California, Janet Ulmer (Garry) of
Cogan Station, Julie Williams (Dave), of Linden and Philip Landon (Penny) of
Trout Run; her grandchildren, Jerone Landon, Clifford Landon, Sable Landon,

COX -LINDA L. WERTMAN, 67, of Muncy passed away on
Monday, July 15, 2019, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. She was born
in Laporte on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 1951 and was the daughter of the late Bruce L.
and Irene M. Curtis Cox. Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and
grandchildren, loved the country and the outdoors. She is survived by three
daughters, Dawn M. (Brian) Boore, of Muncy, Karla S. (Raymond) Sellers, of
Hughesville, and Tessa L. (Bobby) Wertman, of Milton; a brother, Jack Cox, of
Bradford; two sisters, Beatrice Heinrich, of Nordmont, and Donna Huey, of Camp
Verde, Ark.; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents,

VERNON D. DEGRANGE, age 78, of Mercur Hill,
Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2019, at
Darway Eldercare and Rehabilitation Center with his loving family at his side.
Vernon was born April 6, 1941, in Pennington, New Jersey, son of the late
Carl and Mary Miss Degrange. He attended Delhaas High School in Bristol,
Pennsylvania. After high school, Vernon attended art school, and then was
drafted into the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966. After being honorably discharged
he worked as a mechanic for Morrell Tractor. Vernon married Carolyn Reblock of
Doylestown, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 26, 1984, and they celebrated their 34th
wedding anniversary last year. In 1984, they moved to the Mercur Hill area,
where he worked for Standing Stone Township until retiring. Vernon enjoyed
spending time with his family and friends. He liked hunting, playing pool,
building and fixing things around their property. He loved watching the History
Channel. He also loved animals, having raised many different types over the
years. He was a member of John Billington VFW Post No. 6495, Levittown,
Pennsylvania, and American Legion Post No. 534, Wyalusing, Pennsylvania.
Surviving are his spouse, Carolyn at home; former spouse, Carolyn McNeil (mother
of daughters) of Phoenix, Arizona; daughters, Janee DeGrange of Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, Desiree DeGrange of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Zachary
Reeves of Renton, Washington, Chandler DeGrange-Dunn of Towanda, Pennsylvania,
Brooke Irvine of Discovery Bay, California. He was predeceased his sister, Betty
Cleary, and five brothers, Robert, Marvin, Gene, Ralph and Jimmy Degrange. A

DENNIS A. DEPEW, 76, of Denton, Texas, passed away
after a brief illness at Carriage Home Assisted Living on June 24, 2019. He was
born Oct. 16, 1942 in Sayre. He was received by his wife Nancy in Heaven, who
passed away in 2016. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Helen Depew.
He is survived by his daughters: Colleen and Peter Nash and granddaughter Nora
Nash of Argyle, Texas, and Shea and Roy Gilland and grandsons: Daniel and
Christian Gilland of Fort Worth, Texas, also a brother Terry and Susan Depew of
Milan, Pa., and several nieces. He was a 1960 graduate of SRU High School. He
served four years in the United States Coast Guard. He worked at Sylvania in
Towanda for 19 years, 10 years for Texas Instruments, from where he retired, and
later he went back to work for Raytheon in Texas. He enjoyed fishing and
hunting. He was also an avid photographer, where he loved to attend air shows
and take photographs of various planes. A memorial service was held July 22,
2019 at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Dallas, Texas, with a full Coast Guard
military ceremony. A memorial service/picnic will be held Saturday, Aug. 3 at 2
p.m. for friends and family at the home of Terry and Susan Depew, 606

DAVID L. DEWALD, 64, of Muncy, passed away on
Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Williamsport Regional Medical Center. David was born in
Bloomsburg on Monday, December 20, 1954 and was the son of Harry O. DeWald of
Hughesville and the late Josephine A. Watts DeWald. David served his country
honorably in the US Army during the time of the Vietnam War. He served with
distinction in postings in Germany, Hawaii, and Fort Meade. David worked for the
Federal Bureau of Prisons where he built a reputation as a fair minded and
effective leader. In 1996, he was recognized nationally as the Correctional
Services Staff Member of the Year. He was a member of Pleasant View Wesleyan
Church of Muncy. David was an avid hunter and fisherman who found peace
outdoors. He is survived by his father Harry, a son Michael W. (Melissa) DeWald
of Hanover, PA, a daughter, Lee Ann (Mario) Gattullo of Great Meadows, NJ, two
brothers; Dale DeWald of Georgia, Dean DeWald of Lebanon, a sister, Diane DeWald
of Lebanon, and by three grandchildren. David is predeceased by his mother,
Josephine A. Watts DeWald. Relatives and friends are invited to attend David’s

DIXON -ROCHELLE JOELLEN MCCARL (DIXON), age 58,
passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, while under
the care of Ministry Hospice. She was born on Jan. 10, 1961 to Wade and
Jeannette (Strope) Dixon at Fort Mead, Maryland. Her father preceded her in
death. Rochelle attended and graduated from Towanda High in Pennsylvania, and
continued her education for another two years for an LPN degree. She worked as
an LPN for some time, but found a true passion in the food service industry.
Rochelle was a people person, and enjoyed waitressing, bartending and being a
catering manager. She enjoyed being around and visiting with people. Rochelle
was a loving person that looked forward to spending time with her children and
grandchildren. She was a strong animal advocate, and would volunteer as the
local rescue shelters. Rochelle loved to go to flea markets and garage sales,
she would always find a treasure! She helped and gave to others whenever she had
the opportunity. Rochelle will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered.
Rochelle is survived by her mother, Jeannette Watkins (Dixon) of Pennsylvania;
husband and life-long friend, Jack McCarl of Gleason; sons, Richard Dixon of
Michigan and William McCarl of Merrill; cherished grandchildren, Felicity,
Atlas, Melody and Harmony; and sister, Robin (John) Accarino of New York; along
with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death
by her father, Wade Dixon; step-father, Carl Watkins; grandmother, Eleanor

DAVID G. FLEMING, 56, of Chemung, NY passed away
unexpectedly on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre,
PA. He was predeceased by his father, David G. Fleming Sr. and son, Daniel.
David is survived by his loving wife, Dana Thompson Fleming; mother, Dorothy
"Dottie" Fleming; children, Brett (Megan), Bridget (Justin), Ethan (Alyssa) and
Eli; siblings, Teresa Ringo, Kathleen (Ted), Eileen (James) Van Riper, Nancy
(Keith) Wells, Joseph (Holly), Peter and Timothy (Rosa); Pop Pop to Sean, Lucy
and Reagan; Dwight, Frida and Pam; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins,
aunts and uncles. David was a dairy farmer at heart and ran the farm in Chemung
for 22 years. He was a man that could fix or build anything and was close to
finishing a dream of his of opening a Gun Shop. He was a member of the Sullivan
Trail Rod & Gun Club. He loved his animals and always had a special connection
to them. David had built his own bandsaw sawmill at home. He loved his tractors
and tanks. He loved his ducks, chickens and Llamas. He was single handedly
responsible for repopulating the Mallard population is the Southern Tier. David
was a proud cancer survivor of over 12 years. He served proudly in the Army
National Guard and Army Reserves for 13 years and separated as an E-6 SSG and he
was a tank commander. David's standard response to any question or statement was
"That'll be ok." The family would like to send a special thank you to Phil, Amy

NY and Dunedin, FL passed away on July 20, 2019. Teresa was born in Coudersport
PA, the daughter of James and Kathryn Franke. She was predeceased by her husband
of 58 years Calvin; daughter, Marcella Friends;and brother-in-law, Fred Johnson.
She is survived by her sons, John (Christine) Thomas of Elmira, NY and Paul
(Michelle) Thomas of Pine City, NY; son-in-law, Robert Friends of Enola, PA;
grandchildren, Amanda (Yoandi) Interian, Graham Thomas, Rebecca Friends, Emily
Thomas, and Adam Thomas; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas (Judy)
Franke of Coudersport, PA, Elizabeth Johnson of Sanford, NC, and Mary Jane
(Frank) Weeks of Roulette, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Teresa was a
graduate of Pennsylvania's Edinboro State Teachers College, and Elmira College
in Elmira, NY with a Masters of Education. Teresa was an artist whose kind
encouragement sparked the love of art in thousands of students in the Elmira
City School District throughout her distinguished career. In her retirement she
rekindled her passion for capturing the beauty around her in pastels while
studying and painting at the Dunedin Fine Art Center. A celebration of Teresa's

DONALD LEE GARRETT passed away on June 14, 2019 at
his home. Don was born in Sellersville, Oct. 7, 1949. Don was a veteran of the
Vietnam War. He was a certified scuba diver, motorcyclist, and outdoors man. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania
Hunting Association. Don was a tractor trailer driver and retired from Indian
Valley Bulk Carriers, Tylersport, after over 20 years of employment. He
purchased his property here in Bradford County in 1995 and that is where he
built his dream home. Don spent his retirement in Columbia Cross Roads, where he
enjoyed the beautiful view of mountainsides, acres of pasture and the wildlife
that frequented his property. His passion was his animals. Don loved his dogs,
Toby and Sully, his five horses, Lucy, Major, Faaz (Faazy), Rusty (Miggie), and
Dalton. He also cared for several stray cats that made his property their home.
Don was preceded in death by his mom, Doris Garrett, and dad, S. Donald Garrett.
He is survived by his brother, Darren Garrett, and sister-in-law, Valerie Keeler
of Silverdale. Don will be sadly missed by his close friends, who considered him
family. A Veteran Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. July 20, 2019 at the
Troy Vets Club in his honor. Don served his country at a time when the country
did not respect those who sacrificed everything for our freedom and way of life.
That war changed his life forever and this memorial service is intended to
finally give him the welcome home he should have gotten all those years ago.

DANIEL J. 'GILLY' GILBERT age 68 of Elmira died
peacefully at home on his farm, Sunday, July 21, 2019, a place he loved and
lived for nearly 50 years. Gilly was born and raised in Elmira a son of the late
Andrew and Frances (Wolfe) Gilbert. He is also predeceased by his sister
Catherine Rose Gilbert. Gilly is survived by his sister and brother-in-law
Patricia A. and Gerald Sweeney of Albany NY; niece Kelly (Joseph) Ahearn of Troy
NY with son Aiden; friend and companion Kerry Keck Ames of Elmira; canine
companion Matty; special family friends, Sheila Hungerford, Greg and Julie
Hungerford, Colleen and Mark Titus, David Carr; along with many other good
friends. Gilly was a 1969 graduate of Elmira Free Academy. He served in the US
Army from January 1971 until January 1973. Gilly worked with NYS Department of
Corrections, retiring in 2000, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Gilly was a
member of the White Eagles Club and the American Legion Post #443. He was an
avid golfer and New York Yankee fan. One of Gilly's greatest joys was watching
the sunsets from his home on the farm. Family and friends are invited to

GOBLE -BARBARA JEAN ROGERS, age 82, a lifelong
resident of Litchfield, Pa., passed away on June 9, 2019 after a brief battle
with leukemia. Barbara was born on Sept. 29, 1936 in Sayre, Pa., the daughter of
the late Millard and Bernice (Nichols) Goble. Barbara was a graduate of Sayre
High School in 1954. On June 9, 1955 at the Litchfield United Methodist Church,
she married Jack Laverne Rogers of Athens, Pa. Barbara often made mention of the
fact that she became a member of this church when she was only 12 years old.
Barbara’s roots with the church go even deeper, however, as her parents were
living in the church parsonage at the time of her birth. Barbara loved to cook
and she adored children. She managed to incorporate those two loves into a
career as a cook in the cafeteria with the Sayre Area School District. Barbara
especially looked forward to cooking for the 6th grade class when they went on
an overnight field trip to Camp Brule at the end of each school year. Barbara is
survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Jack L. Rogers; her two sons and
daughters-in-law, John Wesley and Ruth Ann (Hubbard/McDonald) Rogers of Naples,
Fla., and Shawn Laverne and Kimberly Ann (Merrill) Rogers of Chazy, N.Y. Barbara
is also survived by two sisters, Janice Jones of Waverly, N.Y., and Nancy Depue
of Gainesville, Fla. Surviving brother-in-law and sisters-in-law are Ed and Jean
Rogers of Merritt Island, Fla., Marjorie (Schill) Rogers of Columbia Cross
Roads, Pa., and Rosie Ackley of Sayre, Pa. Barbara has four grandchildren,
Jennifer (Rogers) Rad and her husband Michael of King of Prussia, Pa., Steven
Rogers of Naples, Fla., Nolan Rogers of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Spencer Rogers
of Burlington, Vt. She has two great-grandchildren, Sean and Aralyn Rad of King
of Prussia, Pa. Additionally, Barbara is survived by 21 nieces and nephews,
along with their spouses and children. She is survived by neighbor Jack Pond of
Litchfield, Pa., who Barb often referred to as “my third son.” Last, but not
least, Barbara is survived by her beloved black cat, Sammy. Barbara was preceded
in death by her sister Audrey Warner and brothers-in-law Ray Raupers, Sam
Northrup, Walter Ackley, Robert Warner, Harry Jones, Gerald Depue and Wayne
Rogers. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on
Thursday, June 13 from 10-11 a.m. at the Litchfield United Methodist Church,
2759 Litchfield Road, Sayre, Pa. A memorial service and celebration of Barbara’s

JESSE B. GOODWIN, age 92, of Laceyville, known as
“Jake” to his friends and loved ones, passed from this earth on Wednesday
morning, July 17, 2019 at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Guthrie Towanda Memorial
Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Jake was born in Luzerne, on July 28,
1926, the son of the late Gladys (Taylor) and Leslie Harris. He served his
country in the US Army during WWII with the 340th Engineer Construction
Battalion in the Philippines. He was a dairy farmer with Donald Arthur at his
farm, The Braintrim Farm, for many years. He was also employed with Taylor
Packing as a security guard. He was a member of the Rought Hall American Legion
Post No. 510. He enjoyed woodworking, woodburning, tinkering, and the outdoors.
He took great pleasure in working with tractors, mowing his yard, and tending
the garden. Most of all he enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his
family. Jake married Millie Jo Pennay on Aug. 16, 1947. They were married for 70
years before her passing on Feb. 15, 2018, and raised a family of six. Their
children are as follows: Bonnie (James) Manahan of Warrenton, Virginia; Gary
(Kathie) Goodwin of East Smithfield; Mark (Barbara) Goodwin of Gloucester,
Virginia; Teri (Jim) Burgess of Dillsburg; Tim (Dianna) Goodwin of Wyalusing;
and Todd (Lynelle) Goodwin of Wyalusing. He is also survived by his 25
grandchildren (including spouses) and 26 great-grandchildren, with another three
on the way; his brother-in-law, Harold Pennay of Silvara; as well as many nieces
and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sisters, Margaret
Honeywell, Helen Newhart, Gertrude Pennay and Hettie Tinna. A memorial service
for Jake will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2019, at the Sheldon Funeral
Home, 459 Main Street, Laceyville, with Reverend Lloyd Vaughn of the Independent
Baptist Church, Towanda, officiating. Interment will follow at the Lacey Street
Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the members of the Rought Hall
American Legion Post No. 510, the Dennis Strong American Legion Post No. 457,
and the Endless Mountains V.F.W. Post No. 3583. Family and friends may call at

NORMAN H. GRISWOLD age 90 of Pine Valley, NY and
Sebastian, FL, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019. Norm was born and raised in
Elmira, a son of Howard A. and Helen (Pepper) Griswold. He is predeceased by his
brother Leon Griswold. Norm is survived by his wife Annice W. Griswold, with
whom he celebrated 69 years of marriage on March 25, 2019; son and
daughter-in-law Mark H. and Virginia Griswold of Elmira; daughter and son-in-law
Pamela G. and James Connor of Pine Valley, with her son Eric Callis; sister and
brother-in-law Lois and Hank Landmesser of South Carolina; sisters-in-law,
Priscilla Griswold of Big Flats and Janice McInroy of Anaheim CA; brother-in-law
Donald Winters of Anaheim CA; along with several nieces and nephews. Norm was a
man of many talents. He was the owner and president of Elmira Quality Printers,
a three generation family business. He was president of G&W Developing building
numerous apartments and single family homes in the Horseheads/Big Flats area.
Norm was also the builder and one of original owners of The Pour House in Elmira
Heights. Following his lifelong passion for flying, he acquired his private
pilot's license at the age of 16 and went on to obtain commercial, instrument,
single and multi-engine land and sea licenses. He owned 8 single engine and 2
twin engine aircrafts in his 72 years of flying. He was a founding member of the
local Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter #533 and a member of the
Horseheads Rotary Club. In following his wishes, there will be no services.

RICHARD P. 'STICKER' HARTMAN, age 79 of Knoxville
passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019. Born August 14, 1939 in Blossburg, he was
the son of the late Paul J. and Margaret E. (Anderegg) Hartman. He married Donna
(Doan) and retired from Joyce Western/Otis Eastern pipeline construction.
Sticker was a life member of Galeton Moose Lodge #826 and a social member of the
Knoxville Deerfield Fire Company. He enjoyed golf, all sports, especially the
Bills and Pirates and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by
his loving wife of 47 years, Donna; his children, Michele and Daren Hager, Brian
and Wilma Cary, Terry and Tara Cary and Carol and Rick Collins; grandchildren,
Jessica, Alicia, Brande, Kristy, Bobbie Jo, Damieon, Kelly, Jennifer, Cheryl,
Morgan, Colton and Taylor; 18 great grandchildren, two nephews, Michael and
Allen and a niece, Debbie. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Cary;

Florida. She was under the care of her niece, Linn Powers, for many years.
Shirley is survived by daughter, Mellissa Murray of Buffalo, N.Y.; her

ANN EVANS, 81, of Trout Run passed peacefully with her family by her side
Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at home. Surviving is her loving husband Alden J. Evans,
Sr., whom she wed on November 22, 1957 in Calvert, PA and spent 61 years
creating a life with. Born January 18, 1938, in Montoursville she was a daughter
of the late Jason W. and Elsie Ann (Mundrick) Holdren. Ann was a 1955 graduate
of Montoursville High School. She had worked at numerous jobs and retired from
Hope Enterprises as a group home manager but her most significant role in life
was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Ann attended Trout Run United
Methodist Church. She enjoyed painting, bird watching, gardening and growing
flowers. In her earlier years, she could be found square dancing with her
husband. Ann loved the beach, traveling and spending time anywhere she could
throw her fishing line in the water. An avid mystery reader, she also enjoyed
all kinds of books and she will always be remembered for her homemade fudge and
Mommy’s fruit cake recipe. Ann’s kind and compassionate ways made her a mother
and best friend to all. Surviving
in addition to her husband are her children, William W. Evans, of Cogan Station,
Kimberly A. Holdren (Michael), of Liberty, Jeffery A. Evans (Candy), of Rome,
NY., Michele S. Ludwig (Donald), of Williamsport, Alden J. Evans Jr. (Rebecca),

great-grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters, Sandra Thompson (Sheldon)
and Mary Phillips both of Trout Run.
In addition to her parents she was
preceded in death by her infant daughter, Yvonne M. Evans, two daughter in laws,
Judy L. Evans and Ruth M. Evans, 6 brothers, Jerry, Bill, Roy, Lawrence, Cliff,
and Joe Holdren, and 2 sisters, Betty Helm and Carol Fleming.

member of the Towanda Creek Mennonite Church of West Franklin, and served as

passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at home. She leaves this world to reunite
with her husband, the love of her life, Robert Teeter. She called him "My
Bob."Beverly was born in Addison, N.Y. to Emma A. (Hamilton) Horton on April 8,
1937. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She
was a strong and kind woman. She worked at Penn Yan Boat Company for 12 years,
first as an operations employee and then was promoted to supervisor. She enjoyed
homemaking, traveling and motorcycling with her husband, gardening, picnicking,
horses and country music. She loved her family dearly. Beverly is survived by
her daughters: Cheryl (David) of Knoxville, Tenn.; Yvette (Paul) of Corning,
N.Y. and step-daughter Lisa (Ken) of Cross Plains, Tenn.; sons: Kim of Palm Bay,
Fla., George (Dawn) of Corning, N.Y., and Bruce (Bridgett) of Lindley, N.Y.,

so loved, so missed, so very dear….Our hearts were broken on Friday
afternoon, May 31, 2019 with the passing of our loving dad, grandpa,
great-grandpa, brother, uncle and friend Raymond E. “Ray” Horton, 86, of
Smithboro. Ray, as he was affectionately known by his family as “Curly,” was
born on November 14, 1932 in Sheshequein Township, Pa, a son of the late Murray
Martin and Edna Pauline (French) Horton. Ray was a graduate of the Waverly High
School and proudly served his country with the US Navy from 1951-1955. On a cold
November 15th in 1953, Raymond married Patricia Heyman, together they shared
nearly 62 years of marriage until her passing on March 11, 2015. Ray was
employed at the Grand Union for several years and for over twenty-five years was
employed by IBM–Owego. Ray was a devoted member of the Smithboro United
Methodist Church and the Tioga Masonic Lodge #534. For many years, Ray oversaw
and was caretaker of the Smithboro Cemetery. He was an avid hunter, fisherman
and treasured the many family camping trips. A true sports enthusiast, Ray
always looked forward to attending Tioga and Waverly sporting events. In
addition, he also enjoyed watching the Dodgers and NY Giants play. Morning
coffee at the Dandy and attending the IBM Retirees Breakfast Club were the
highlight of his days. The glimmer in his eye and smile will be greatly missed
by his family. Those left to cherish Ray’s memory are: his children Stephen D.
and his wife Rebecca Horton of Chemung; Cheryl A. Horton of Spencer, and Susan
and her husband Robert Walkley of Tioga Center, his sister Patricia Carol Luther
of Waverly; his special grandchildren: Anthony and Stefanie Horton; Nathon and
Jessica Horton; Jason Horton; Gregory and Justina Walkley; Janelle Walkley;
Scott Walkley; and Kari Walkley; his great-grandchildren: Travis, Henry,
Everett, Averie and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his newest
great-grandson in September. His brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kathi and
Richard Andress who were our special angels and caregivers to Dad over the last
year; Earle “Sonny” and Jan Heyman; Barbara and Bernard Vallilee; Ray is also
survived by special friends: Marcia O’Donnell, John and JoAnne Goble, Paul and
Shirley Madigan, Judy Catlin, Doug and Linda Kinney, Pat and Patti Kinney, Mary
Lou Kinney and Sean Monagan and Fred Michel. Numerous nieces, nephews and their
families also survive. We are so grateful for the kindness shown to us by Dr.
Barb and the love and care offered by Dr. Ian Stuppal and Dr. Yalamanchilli —
your gentle ways will be with us forever. Ray was predeceased by his parents,
his wife Patricia and a brother Richard Horton. Abiding with his wishes,

CHARLES F. HOUSEKNECHT, 85, of Springfield Township
passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was the loving husband of Patricia (Fink) Houseknecht. The couple married
Feb. 27, 1965 and had 54 happy years together. Charlie
was born on Aug. 20, 1933 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, son of the late Harold
D. and Clara (Hackling) Houseknecht. He was a 1953 graduate of Montoursville
High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Charlie was a lifelong farmer and
worked hard on the family farm, was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau,
and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.
Charlie is survived by his wife Pat; his children, Charlene (Joe) Andrus,
Charles F. (Robin) Houseknecht Jr., Melissa (Jim) Rockwell and William (Stacy)
Houseknecht; his grandchildren, Paul Andrus, Jessica and Emily Rockwell, Andrew
Houseknecht, Hannah, Hope, Hart and Hale Houseknecht; his great granddaughter,
Violet Andrus; his siblings, Robert Houseknecht, Sus Toothacher and David
Houseknecht; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son, John Philip

DAVID MARK KELLY, 63, of Spring Hill, Florida, on
July 6, 2019, succumbed to a hard fought battle with illness with his wife and
daughters by his side. Dave was a contractor home builder in the Spring Hill,
FL, area for over 40 years. He was a lifelong musician who played in various
bands most of his adult life. Dave grew up in Wellsburg, NY and graduated from
Southside High School in 1974. He was predeceased by his father Donald A. Kelly
Jr. in 2009 and is survived by his mother Marion L. Kelly of Sayre, PA. Along
with his loving wife of 39 years, Connie Dean Kelly, formerly of Gillette, PA,
he is also survived by daughters Cheyenne Kelly and Farrel Inmon of Spring Hill,
FL; Danielle Rosado of Springhill FL; and Cayla Kelly of Spring Hill, FL; his
siblings: Joseph and Jolene Kelly of Warrenton, VA; James and Kay Kelly of Troy,

forever……Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and
friend Gloria A. Root, 82, of Smithboro went home to be with her Lord and was
reunited with her husband Donald on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Gloria was born on
Jan. 15, 1937 in Wichita, Kan., a daughter of the late Louis and Dorothy
(Miller) Ketron. At the age of 13, she met the apple of her eye, Donald S. Root,
while he proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. On Nov. 10, 1950, she
married Don and together they shared over 60 years of marriage. Gloria loved the
color pink, treasured the time spent with her family and reading her favorite
book – the Bible. She enjoyed going to church and being around her church
family. Gloria is survived by her children, G. Ann (Wayne) Benscoter of
Kentucky, Donald L. (Shari) Root of Sharon, S.C., Bonita (Bob) Dombroski of
Concord, N.C., and Kerry (Kim) Root of Barton, N.Y.; her siblings, Leslie

WALDO H. KILMER, 84, of Dushore, died Wednesday,
July 24, 2019 at his home. Born July 16, 1935 in Dushore, he was a son of the
late Harry M. and Jennie (Vogt) Kilmer. He and his wife, the former Joan
Bennett, celebrated 43 years of marriage on Feb. 21, 2019. Waldo was a graduate
of the Loyalsock Joint High School, Class of 1953. Following graduation, Waldo
served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After
returning home from the war in April of 1964, he began working for the former
Estella Telephone Company and continued there until 1977 when he formed his own
electrical company, Kilmer Electric. Waldo retired in 2009 after 32 years in
business. Giving back to his community was very important to Waldo as he
volunteered at the Sullivan County Food Pantry and served as a board member for
the Sullivan County Historical Society. He was also a member of the Evergreen
Lodge No. 163 F. & A. M. Waldo was an avid reader who also enjoyed genealogy and
history. He was a very talented individual who had a keen interest in
understanding how various mechanisms operated. Waldo also enjoyed spending time
with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Surviving, in
addition to his wife, is a daughter, Stacey Pardoe (Michael) Shannon of West
Lawn, PA; two sons, Mark D. (Shannon) Pardoe of Monroeton and Tracy F. Pardoe of
Dushore; six grandchildren, Davin B. Taylor, Dylan T. Taylor, Kendra M. Pardoe,
Dave R. Pardoe, Brooke O. Shannon, and M. Hank Shannon; two great-grandchildren,
Adisyn N. R. Taylor and Waylon D. Taylor; a niece, Donna Francis of Norcross,
Georgia; a nephew, Paul Kilmer of Harrisburg; a mother-in-law, Evelyn M. Higley
of Hillsgrove; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews. In addition to his
parents, Waldo was preceded in death by his step-mother, Martha Vogt Kilmer; a

KILMER -WINIFRED CLAIRE KILMER TERRY passed away
peacefully at 101 years of age, on June 15, 2019 in Lockport Rehab & Health Care
Center. She was born at home on November 29, 1917 in South Waverly, PA, the
first child of Charles B. Kilmer and Hattie (Fritz) Kilmer. She graduated from
the Sayre, PA High School in 1935, and later, Elmira Business Institute. She was
employed by a law firm in Elmira, NY until 1942. On May 2, 1941, Winifred
married Jack R. Terry of Athens, PA. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 65
years until he passed on August 30, 2006. The Terrys lived in Elmira Heights,
NY, and Watkins Glen, NY for many years in their early marriage, and in 1967,
moved to Wilson, NY where they spent 43 years in their house on the lake. After
Jack's death, Winifred moved to Lockport to be near family. Winifred was a
member of Exley Methodist Church and a past member of the Gnostic Guild in
Wilson, as well as the Wilson Historical Society. She enjoyed quilting,
crossword puzzles, baking, gardening, traveling, and gummy bears. She loved her
community and many fondly remember her kindness and sweet nature. Winifred,
known to many as Fuzz, is survived by her children Susan (Harry) Blish of Elmira
Heights, NY; John (Cynthia) Terry of Watkins Glen, NY; Jan (David) Jordan of
Lockport, NY; and Lynn (Gary) Sprague of Wylie, TX; 10 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Janice Sylvester of Kissimmee, FL; dear niece
Jacquelyn (Kelly) Becker of Montrose, CO, and many other nieces and nephews. Her
siblings, Charles W. Kilmer of Washington State and Mary Alice Merrill of

JOHN MICHAEL 'JACK' LAKE - Jack Lake died at his
home in Coinjock, NC on March 6, 2019 after struggling with poor health for over
two years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Luann Cline,
mother of Jack’s son, Brian Michael Lake, who died in 2017 and for whom Jack
greatly grieved. Jack was born on June 7, 1948 at the Robert Packer Hospital in
Sayre, PA to C. David Lake and Mary Musette Osborne Lake, both of whom are now
deceased. His primary and secondary education was within the public school
system of Waverly, NY, graduating with the class of 1966. He enlisted in the
U.S. Navy following high school and served 10 years, mostly in Norfolk, VA,
where he was part of the Navy Seals Training Program. He retired at the rank of
Chief Petty Officer. Following his military service, Jack co-owned and operated
a dive shop and dive training facility in Virginia Beach, VA. He concurrently
studied at Old Dominion University in Virginia, earning a Bachelor of Science
degree. His next step was a Master of Science in geology from Boston University
in Boston, MA. Geology became a professional and personal passion for him for
the remainder of his life; he was truly our “rock man.” His career as a
geologist took him to many parts of the United States and he enjoyed sharing
those stories. Over the course of his life Jack enjoyed horses, fishing,
sky-diving, scuba, golf, spelunking and boating. He owned a few boats, his
favorite being “Foxy Cat” in Virginia Beach. In the last years of his life, Jack
lived water-side in Coinjock. He was a valued member of St. Luke’s Episcopal
Church in Currituck, NC and found great solace and peace within the church
community. Surviving Jack is his grandson, Dominic Michael Lake of Catonsville,
MD. He is also survived by an older sister, Mary Irene Ortiz (Edwin) of
Sarasota, Fl; an older brother, David Edward Lake (Karen), also of Sarasota, and
a younger brother, Frank Gregory Lake (Nancy) of Sayre, Pa; as well as three
nieces, Susan Witkowski, Laura Lake and Kathryn Lake; three nephews, Jeremy
Moulton, Shawn Lake and Kyle Lake; great-nieces, Jenna Weinrich and Kaitlyn
Lake; great nephews, Jacob Moulton and Jared Moulton; and several cousins. Jack
is also survived by his beloved Aunt Betsy (Mrs. Madeline Swetland of Sayre.) He

LYSA LEIGHTON, 46, of Towanda, formerly of Chester
County, Pennsylvania passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at her home.
She was born March 22, 1973 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, a
daughter to Michael Leighton and the late Patricia (Smith) Leighton.
Lysa graduated from Temple University with a bachelor’s degree
in sociology and spent the majority of her career working at Ricoh Systems as an
account manager in her favorite city, Philadelphia. Most recently, she was
employed at Cargill, Inc. in Wyalusing. She absolutely loved animals and was
actively involved in animal rescue throughout life. She truly found solace in
the comfort of animals. Lysa was a voracious reader, enjoyed riding bike to work
each day, and traveling to New Orleans and Mexico with her soulmate, Steve.
Lysa’s energy will be missed by all that knew her.
Besides Lysa’s father and step-mother, Mike and Nancy Leighton of Troy, she is
survived by a sister, Julie Leighton of Phoenixville; an aunt, Susan Farrel of
Fort Pierce, Florida; an uncle, Lawrence Karas of Tampa, Florida; best friends,
Steve, Toni, Nona, Jan and Zinna. She was predeceased by
her mother, Patricia; maternal grandparents, Estelle and Raymond Smith; paternal
grandparents, Barbara and Roy Leighton; aunts, Barbara Karas and Gail Willes.
An open house to celebrate Lysa’s life will be held from

LOOP -WORTHA MOREL (nee Loop) WYSS STEWART, passed
away peacefully on July 4, 2019 in Waverly, N.Y., where she has resided for the
past 28 years. She was born on Nov. 25, 1918 in New Haven, N.Y., to the late
Hermon and Eunice (Tillie) Loop. She grew up in the countryside of Boylston,
N.Y., and was graduated from Sandy Creek, N.Y., High School in 1937. Wortha
loved nature and walking, was an accomplished violinist, played the piano, and
enjoyed dancing, as well as gardening, needlework and cooking. She was an active
member of the Nelson, N.Y., Methodist Church, the Home Bureau, and the
Cazenovia, N.Y., Choral Club. An avid reader and creative writer, her poem,
“Snowfall,” was published in “Treasured Poems of America, Winter 1996,” by
Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum, Inc. Wortha married Milton (Bill) Wyss in December
1937 and they lived on the Wyss Farm in Fenner (Cazenovia), N.Y., where they
raised their family. She loved entertaining and their door was always open wide
to family and friends. Wortha is survived by her four loving children, Nancy
Wyss Gahtan and husband Allan of Chester, N.J., Elizabeth (Betty) Wyss Vasu of
Albemarle, N.C., Leonard Wyss of Anaheim, Calif., Larry Wyss and wife Marci of
Waverly, N.Y.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and
nephews. She is predeceased by her eight sisters and seven brothers. Services

passed away very unexpectedly on Monday, July 15, 2019. He was born on February
22, 1970 in Elmira, NY. Kevin was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Blake Lowman.
He is survived by his father, Robert E. Lowman; son, Parker Lowman; longtime
companion, Billie-Jo Gross; brother, Robert (Traci) Lowman; sisters, Nancy
Lowman and Angela Lowman; several nieces, nephews, and close friends and special
pet "Davey". It was Kevin's wish that no services be held, but a celebration of

CHARLES WARREN 'CHIP' LUCKMAN 52, of 3630 Covered
Bridge Road, Towanda, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019 at his home following
declining health. “Chip” was born in Sayre, on Aug. 15, 1966, the son of Warren
Harry Luckman and Mary Bailey Luckman. Chip attended SRU High School in East
Smithfield and in early years worked in construction for a brief time. He worked
with Duane Petrucci in his furniture restoration business for a number of years
and later opened his own business, Saco Hill Furniture Restoration which he
operated until declining health no longer permitted him to continue. Chip
enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and playing pool with the Bradford County
Pool League. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee Heasley Luckman; his mother,
Mary Bailey Luckman of Towanda; children, Brandon Luckman of Towanda, Amber
Luckman of Towanda; grandson, Jayden Charles Jayne; sister, Tammy (Tim) Glisson
of Ulster, several additional siblings, nieces and nephews who were all very
special to him. Chip was predeceased by his father, Warren Luckman. A private

Packer Hospital. She was predeceased by her father Gordon. She is survived by
companion of 30 years, George Kent, Jr. of Elmira; daughter Melanie Rosengrant
of Tunkhannock, PA; mother Frances Mallery of FL; grandchildren Cory and Lexie;
great granddaughter Ava; stepchildren J.R. (Tracy) Kent of Elmira, Georgeanna

on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania.
Vera was born on Sept. 25, 1940 to Samuel and Eleanor Clark
Manley in Towanda, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by
her parents; her husband, Franklin D. Rogers; along with 13 siblings.
Vera is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Nick) Shamot of Sayre
and Karen Rogers of Athens, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Kevin Fiske of
Gillette, Pennsylvania, Lisa Fiske of Sayre, Cody Rogers of Athens and Sierra
Brown of Athens; great grandchildren, Devin Fiske of Rhode Island and Brandii
Fiske of Sayre; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vera loved collecting her butterflies and pigs. She loved to
travel, be outside, working in her garden and weeding.
Vera took great pride in her family and enjoyed the many family get-togethers.
She worked for 15 years in the Athens School District in the cafeteria.
At Vera’s request there will be no services. The family

passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at his home. Born October 9, 1935 in
Blossburg, PA, Gene was the son of the late Eugene Silas and Anna Lucile
(Hilbolt) Mattison. Gene is survived by his life partner, Nancy Ray. Three sons,
Greg Mattison of Wellsboro, PA, Tim Mattison of Fruita, CO, and Mark Mattison of
San Diego, CA. Three grandchildren, Jill Mattison of Wellsboro, PA, Chantel
(Paul) Musser of Wood, PA, and Nathan (Courtney) Bradley of Middletown, PA. Four
great-grandchildren, Laney, Jace, Emma, and Willow. A sister, Donna (Brant)
Muller of Lee, FL. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Gunther. Gene
attended a one-room school house in Blackwell, PA and later went to school in
Liberty and Wellsboro. Gene would often hike to the top of Gillespie Point as a
young boy. Gene was an employee of Dresser Industries in Wellsboro, PA before
embarking on a career as a commercial truck driver where he worked for Daily
Express, Inc. and other trucking companies. Gene met many people on his trips
throughout the United States and truly enjoyed his experiences. Gene enjoyed
spending time with his family and friends. Gene also enjoyed tracing his
family's genealogy, which he recorded with great detail. Gene enjoyed hunting,
trout fishing, rafting Pine Creek, bowling, bird-watching, reading, mystery
movies and Westerns. Gene's greatest love was for his many dogs that he had
throughout his life. Gene, known as Louie to many, was a modest man, but lived a
full and rich life. He will be missed. In honor of Gene's wishes there will be

BRIAN MAY - On Friday, July 5, 2019, Brian May of
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, formerly of Canton, Pennsylvania, passed away
unexpectedly. He was 54 years of age. Born Sept. 9, 1964 in
Troy, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Dennis and Patsy (Crain) May.
Brian worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction
industry. Surviving are his mother, Patsy May of Canton;
son, Matthew May of Vero Beach, Florida; daughter, Jill Schram of Burlington,
Pennsylvania; brothers, Tom (and Jamie) May of Canton and Randy May of Montana;
grandson, Jacek and granddaughter, Kiya; and special lady in his life, Georgette
Wallace of Monroe Township, New Jersey. He was preceded
in death by his father, Dennis May and brother, Greg May.

JOHN C. MCCUTCHEON, 74, of Sayre, Pa., passed away
unexpectedly at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre on July 12, 2019 following a
brief illness. John was born on December 18, 1944 in Sayre, Pa., the son of
Harry and Lena McCutcheon. John graduated from Sayre Area High School in 1965.
After several jobs, he ended up retiring from the Ingersoll Rand in Athens, Pa.
after working there for over 35 years. John was a lifelong member of the J E
Wheelock’s Hose Company in Milltown. He is survived by his wife, Melodie
McCutcheon; brothers Thomas (Faye) McCutcheon, Donald (Shirley) McCutcheon; sons
Christopher (Tracy) McCutcheon of Sayre, Pa., John (Jayna) McCutcheon II of
Sayre, Pa.; daughter Holly Sinsabaugh of Sayre, Pa.; grandchildren Chelsea,
Madylyn, Morgan and Jayden; numerous nephews and nieces. There will be a
celebration of John’s life at the J E Wheelock’s Hose Company in Milltown on

JOHN H. MCMANN, 65, of Main Street, passed away
Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath.
Born in Elmira, Sept. 28, 1953 the son of John S. and Jacqueline Farr McMann, he
had resided in Almond the past 10 years. He was a graduate of Troy High School
in Troy in 1971 from the Triangle Tech in Erie, in 1987 with an associate degree
in RHVAC. He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Coast
Guard from 1971 until 1976. He was a member of the Hornell United Methodist
Church and the Alfred Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting. John was employed at
the United Cerebral Palsy in Horseheads, NY from 1991 until 2008 and Alfred
State Heating Plant from 2008 until 2019. He was predeceased by his parents. The
family is being assisted by Gerald R. Brown, director at Bender-Brown & Powers
Funeral Home of Hornell. He is survived by his wife, Irene McMann of Almond, to
whom he was married on Sept. 14, 2002; his step-son, Jerrod Rynders and his
wife, Becky of Tucson, Arizona; and grandchildren, Bryce and Sam Rynders;
additional grandchildren, River and Sparrow Rynders; their mother, Kristi
Rynders and her fiancé, Robert Quinn of Corning; his sister, Faith DePew of
Columbia Cross Roads, and her companion, Jack Kleinschmidt; his nephews, Noah
and Jen Depew and Thad and Mona Depew; as well as six grand nephews and nieces.
Surviving also are his sister, Rebecca and Greg Levanduski of Needham,
Massachusetts; brother, Jim McMann of Ithaca; aunts, Ann F. Potter and Judy F.

MCNEIL -ELLEN M. SICKLER, 78, of 4 Cherry Lane,
Sayre, Pa., died at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre on July 7, 2019. Ellen
was born May 1, 1941 in Cortland, N.Y., the daughter of James L. and Shirley G.
McNeil. Ellen graduated from Montrose High School in 1959. She obtained her B.S.
from Mansfield University in Education in 1963. She later obtained her M.S.
degree from Cortland State in 1966. Ellen taught elementary education for 33
years in the Waverly School District. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, travel,
shopping, and winters in Ft. Myers Beach, Fla. She is survived by her husband of
56 years, Robert N. Sickler of Sayre; sons Robert N. (Julia) Sickler II of
Weedsport, N.Y., David (Stacey) Sickler of Athens, Pa.; brothers James (Judy)
McNeil of Macedon, N.Y., John (Paula) McNeil of Sayre, Pa.; sister Barbara
(John) Lincoln; grandchildren Robert III, Emily, Thomas, Jacob and Evan Sickler;

DONALD L. MERRILL SR., a lifetime resident of
Waverly and son of Elmer and Louise (nee Harris) Merrill, passed away peacefully
at home on June 17, 2019 at the age of 90. He was married for 69 years to the
love of his life, Carol A. (nee Shaffer) Merrill and was the loving father of
five children, Susan (John) Pacanowski, Sandra (Andrew) Robinson, Patricia
(Richard) Brunk, Donald Merrill Jr. and Laureen (Carmine Sesa) Merrill. He is
survived by his sister Lillian Warren, and predeceased by siblings Howard,
Robert, Lee and Dorothy. Don loved and took great pride in his nine
grandchildren (Brian and Adam Lasater, Tracy Dozier, Kelly Medio, Kyle and Sam
Ackland, Brett, Jeff and Greg Merrill) and seven great-grandchildren (Miles and
Simon Dozier, Lila and Lucas Ackland, Emilia and Nolan Medio and JJ Merrill).
Don’s passion for cars began as a teenager and continued throughout his life.
Buying, refurbishing and selling cars at a very early age evolved into opening
Don Merrill Motors which was located on Chemung Street at the current location
of the Waverly Historical Museum. After 50 years in business, he closed the
doors and enjoyed a very active retirement spending time with his many hobbies,
close friends, and family. He was an avid lifelong collector and enjoyed antique
cars and everything associated with them, ranging from license plates to oil
cans. He also loved spending countless hours working on his home, yard, and
maintaining his beautiful gardens. Don dedicated much of his life to the Village
of Waverly. He was one of the longest standing members of the Waverly Rotary
Club and worked on numerous area beautification initiatives, the largest of
which included the renovation of 46 houses in the Valley. He was also the
founder of and primary donor to the Waverly Historical Museum which was one of
many ways he expressed his love of being a part of the Waverly community. He
leaves this legacy to be enjoyed by all within the museum. Don will be
remembered as a dedicated, hardworking husband, father, grandfather and
community patron. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Barb
Koehn and Jeff Barber for their years of devoted friendship. A time of calling

(Bob) Hummel and Helen Smith; and father-in-law, Sam Orlowski. Janet is survived

MOYER -RUTH M. SWARTLEY, 88, of Souderton, passed
away on Monday, June 3, 2019 in the Souderton Mennonite Homes in Franconia Twp.
She was the beloved wife of 66 years to the late Lawrence A. Swartley, who died
Jan. 19, 2019. Born in Bedminster Twp., she was a daughter of the late Dwight
and Elizabeth (Yothers) Moyer. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for Grand
View Hospital, Doylestown Hospital, and later in life, part-time for Buckingham
Valley Nursing Center. Mrs. Swartley was a member of North Rome Wesleyan Church
in Rome, but later attended Blooming Glen Mennonite Church. In her free time,
she enjoyed reading, birdwatching, baking and cooking, doing crossword puzzles,
and playing games with her family. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Landes
and her husband, Ronald of Silverdale; three sons, Donald Swartley and his wife,
Sandy of Wysox, Thomas Swartley and his wife, Miriam, of Canadensis, Michael
Swartley and his wife, Jill of Friendsville; 11 grandchildren, Bryan, Heather,
Dwight, Katelyn, Holly, Daniel, Matthew, Zebulin, Jared, Beth, Giovanni; four
great-grandchildren, Liza, Emme, Logan, Gideon, and one more expected this year;
two brothers-in-law, Russell Gehman of Souderton, and Gordon Yoder and his wife,
Grace of Chambersburg. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by
a brother, David Moyer, and two sisters, Mary E. Gehman and Anna Marie Moyer.

MYERS -HARRIET JANE GEORGE, 98, formerly of
Hughesville, died Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Rose View Center, Williamsport.
Born November 29, 1920 in Strawbridge, Lycoming County, she was a daughter of
the late Hurley and Stacia (Stackhouse) Myers. Her husband of 50 years, Charles
F. George, preceded her in death on January 14, 1990. Harriet was very musically
inclined and enjoyed playing the piano and violin. She also loved spending time
with her family, especially her grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters,
Bettie J. (Doyle) Kepner of South Williamsport and Ruth Ann Snyder of
Hughesville; two sons, Harry E. (Carol) George and Donald F. (Estella) George,
both of Hughesville; and a large extended family as well. In addition to her
parents and husband, Harriet was preceded in death by a son, Carl E. George.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral

ARVID B. “CURLEY” NELSON, 86, of
Dushore, PA passed away unexpectedly on July 14, 2019. Arvid was born Dec. 9,
1932 in Williamsport, PA to the late Arvid and Mabel (Weaver) Nelson. He
attended Montoursville High School and shortly after graduating he moved to
Sullivan County and pursued his passion for farming. Curley started his own
dairy farm in the early 1950s and later farmed crops and operated his own
sawmill. He was known to many as a “Jack of All Trades,” a gifted mechanic, and
could out work just about anyone. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a
son, Eric Nelson, a daughter-in-law, Nancy Nelson, and a grandson, Rick Nelson.
Surviving Mr. Nelson are his son, Michael Nelson of Towanda,
PA; daughters, Jean Hotchkis (Steve) of Sugar Groove, Cindy Colewell and Bonnie
Johnson, both of the Pittsburgh area; his companion, Ruth Brown of Dushore;
several grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings and many extended family
members. In accordance with Curley’s wishes, there will

CHARLES R. NORTHRUP, JR., 72 of Granville Summit, PA, passed away Monday
morning, June 24, 2019 at Troy Guthrie Community Hospital.
Charles
Robert, “Pooch.” as known by family, was born November 8, 1946 in Towanda a son
of the late Charles Sr. and Betty Jane (Hatch) Northrup. Charles enlisted in the
U.S. Army and following basic training returned home to marry his sweetheart the
former Marguerite Mary Putnam on August 6, 1965. He returned to the Army
and honorably served our Country during the Vietnam Era until his honorable
discharge. Charles was employed at Ingersall Rand and served as a union
president. In later years, he was employed by Toshiba as a maintenance
supervisor. He knew every piece of machinery in the plant and was involved in
preparing the plant for start-up. He was always proud to be involved in the
start-up of the business and was employed there for many years until his
retirement. Charles was a member of the Canton VFW Post 714 in Canton, Pa. and
General State Post 945 of the American Legion.
Charles was a nature
lover and loved all animals, especially his dogs. He leaves behind his canine
friend Cole. He enjoyed fishing and boating, especially in Florida. He loved to
tinker on machinery of any kind and could fix just about anything. His family
was everything to him. Charles always worked hard to make sure they had what
they needed, and never thought twice about sacrificing anything for his family.
Charles valued everyone, even if they had differences. He will always be
remembered for his huge heart, compassion and generosity that he showed to
everyone.
Surviving are three children and their spouses; Wendy (and
Tony) Liguori of Bentley Creek, Charli Kay Northrup of Canton Richard (and
Meagan) of Atlanta, GA, five grandchildren; Tivon, Maleki, Sevyn, Gunner and
Benson, three siblings; Annabell Vanderpool of Canton, Kane Northrup and Star
(and Bobby) McKeon all of Monroeton, several nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
Charles was predeceased by his wife, Mary, of 45 years on
October 28, 2010.
A service to celebrate Charles’ life will be held at the

JESSE LEE NORTHRUP, 31, of Wyalusing, Pa. passed
away on Friday, June 13, 2019. Jesse was born on July 2, 1987, in Sayre, Pa.,
son of Ed and Candy Bidlack. He graduated from Wyalusing High School in the
class of 2006. After high school, Jesse joined the Army infantry, from which he
was honorably discharged in 2009, after receiving numerous medals for service to
his nation. Jesse liked spending time with his nieces and nephews. He loved
movies, spending time at the gym and taking pride in his truck. He had a great
sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. In the last few years he struggled
with mental illness, and was currently receiving treatment. Surviving: sister
Danielle Lear of Sugar Run, Pa.; nieces and nephews: Gage, Jordan, Juliet, and
Cash Lear of Sugar Run, Pa; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Funeral
Service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer
Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA, with the Pastor James Donahue,
presiding. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.

DEAN WARREN
PALMER was born in a small town named Leroy, PA
where he grew up on a Dairy Farm. His parents, Edith and Paul Palmer, passed
away in 1990. He graduated from Canton High school and joined the Army, as
a proud member of the 82nd Airborne division, jumping as a paratrooper. He had
several hundred recorded jumps from an airplane, not to the surprise of any of
us! Dean was a proud veteran and loved his country. He came back to the states
and went to Williamsport Area Community College on the GI bill and soon started
his own business. He was the owner and CEO of Palmer Industrial Coatings Inc.
and celebrated 50 years in business before he retired in 2011.
Dean was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He spent countless hours working for and donating to local outdoor preservation
groups, community projects and youth programs. He was a longtime sponsor of the
John Bower Basketball League and the West End Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was
a board member of the Williamsport YMCA for years and managed the project
building of the Picklener Arena at the YMCA.
Dean was a member of the former Antlers Club in
Williamsport, Pa. and the Wheel Inn in Ralston, Pa. He was a past officer and
President of the Newberry Lions Club. Along with being a published author for
Safari Magazine, he was a member of the Wild Sheep Federation, and the Boone and
Crockett club. He has several record trophies on record.
Dean was a Past Chairman and committee
member of the West Branch Ducks Unlimited organization raising money for the
protection of waterfowl.
Dean was also a member of the Seaside Park
Yacht Club and owned a beach house in Seaside Park for many years. He spent many
weekends deep sea fishing in his 36’ Boston Whaler. His company built the Casino
Pier Waterpark at Seaside Heights in 1987. It stood tall during the Sandy
Hurricane, although some parts were recently rebuilt.
His cabin was his Happy Place in Leroy, Pa.,
near Canton Pa., just up the road from his homestead farm. The cabin is named
“Crofut Lodge” and displays his trophies, beautiful mounts, Indian Arrowhead
collections from the Crofut Indians, and many fun things for the thousands of
people who have visited “The Cabin” to enjoy. It is a museum in itself. The
dancing and singing fish, he did not care for too much. From Ronco rotisserie
cook off’s, to story after story, many memories are embedded in many people’s
minds. The “Hunters Ball” was an annual event where men would dress up with hats
and swords, and visitors would vote and acquire a trophy for the best dressed
Hunter. Many hunters and friends visited the cabin from Maine, New Jersey
and other places for over 35 years. They still come! Local friends and
hunters have come to the cabin for many years, and some have even bought land
and built their own cabins.
Many trips to exciting places for Dean
included, Russia, Mongolia, Ireland, Iceland, and Normandy Beach.
He wrote an article about his famous
trip to Africa for a Safari in 1986 which was published in Safari Magazine. He
visited Kodiak, Alaska several times and bagged a trophy Brown Bear. Dean lived
in an Igloo for 10 days in the Northwest Territories and had many stories to
tell about all of these trips, which his family and friends still enjoy
reminiscing about. At
the age of 72, Dean rode his Bergman 650 motorcycle to Alaska all the way from
Williamsport, covering over 11,000 miles in 21 days. A few years later he
rode the Iditarod Dog sled trail, also in Alaska. His life was full of amazing
and incredible adventures.
His lovely Bride, Delores Palmer, of 58 years (Sept 24, 1961) was by his
side for many of these adventures. They traveled to Germany, Mexico, Italy,
London, Puerto Rico, Arizona, Florida and many other places for fun times. They
had four children, Dina Palmer Wascher (Darrin), Mark Paul Palmer, Lori Palmer
Kilheeney (Robert Jeirles) and the late Julia Palmer Saul (Ted). Beautiful
Julia passed away of Cancer in 2014. Together they had many grandchildren
who they loved dearly including the late Ryan Matthew Jasper, Lyndsay Jasper
Huerbin (Shawn), Austin Kilheeney, Emily Kilheeny, Cory Kilheeney (Mary), Sydney
Palmer, Anna Winters (Eric), Ashley Saul, Rose Saul, Lily Saul, Sage Saul, and
Dillan Saul. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Jewelana Jasper, Lydia
Jasper, Amelia Huerbin, Kendra Kilheeney, and Bentley Saul. Delores was his
caretaker as he spent his last days watching old cowboy movies and eating his
favorite foods, alongside of his beloved pets including Jove, Max, Juju and 7
cats. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, July 22, 2019 after
living a full and well-lived life that will always be remembered and admired by
his family and friends, both near and far.
Dean and Delores are huge animal lovers and

Visitation will be held at Sanders Mortuary,
821 Diamond St. Williamsport, on Saturday July 27th beginning at 12:30 PM,
followed by some great stories and memories shared by family and friends at 2

will be honored by a 21-gun salute to conclude the service and friends may join
us at the Woodward Fire Company Hall for food and more stories following the
service. A life
celebration will also be held for Canton family and friends on Saturday August
17th at the Leroy Community Association School House in Leroy, PA at 11 a.m.

CARESSSA LYNN PAUL, 27, of Athens, Pa., passed away
peacefully at Geisinger Memorial Hospital, with her loved ones by her side, on
Sunday, June 2, 2019. She was born on July 24, 1991 in Sayre, Pa., the daughter
of Glenda and Charles Paul. She was a kind and caring young lady, who loved her
cat, Spooky. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Caressa had
a lot of faith and loved the Lord. Her family knows she is walking with him, and
looking down over them. Caressa was such an inspiration to her family and
others, and she loved everyone and everything. She never had a bad word to say
about anyone or anything. No matter how bad she got, she still had love for
everyone. Caressa loved spending time with others, even when she was not feeling
well. She just liked being around others. She would try to watch TV with her
brother Codie, even when she couldn’t because she didn’t feel well. Caressa
didn’t want him to be alone and by himself. Caressa was diagnosed with
Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome at the young age of 3 1/2. SDS is a rare blood
disorder that affects the pancreas, bone marrow and skeleton, but other organs
are also affected. Other organs and body parts that are affected are kidneys,
liver, brain, teeth and immune system. It leaves its victims at high risk of
infections, as well as constantly fatigued and with decreased oxygen levels.
After all that brave little Caressa has gone through, she is now at rest with
the Lord. After all of her fighting, pain and discomfort, she is finally set
free from all that, and is at peace with the Lord. Her family will greatly miss
her, but knows that she is finally free of all she has endured for such a long
time. Her family would like her to know how much they love her and miss her. And
they know they will all be together one day again. So for now they know that the
Lord will bless and keep her safe with him, until they all meet again, Amen and

DALEN N. PERRY was born in Waverly, N.Y., on Jan.
21, 1969 to the late Douglas N. Perry and Eleanor Perry Marsh. He was a resident
of Waverly and Spencer, N.Y. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1987 and
was a former employee of Leprino Foods. He is survived by a son, Dustin Miller,
his mother, and brothers: Daniel and Dwight of Spencer, N.Y., sisters: Ester
Sheldon of Bamberg, S.C., Linda Bolen of Grapevine, Texas, Beth Ann Vizcarrondo
of Vestal, N.Y., Sheila Spencer of Ulster, Pa., Irene Cunningham of Barton,
N.Y., and Rebecca Lattari of Sayre, Pa. He was preceded in death by his father,
son Anthony and his brother Douglas Jr. He passed unexpectedly while camping in
Colorado on July 10, 2019 at Rocky Ford. Funeral arrangements will be announced

PERRY -MARJORIE (PERRY) REGAN of Sayre passed away
on July 13, 2019 with family at her side. Mrs. Regan was a resident for the past
five years of Guthrie Towanda Personal Care Home. Born in 1918, Marjorie’s
positive attitude, hard work and dedication helped to carry her family through
the Great Depression. Following the early death of her mother, Marge helped to
manage the family farm in her teen years, while her father worked at a factory
in Johnson City. Marjorie attended a one-room schoolhouse in Sheshequin. In the
Great Flood of 1936, she traveled to school in a rowboat. Marge enjoyed her
studies at Ulster Middle School and later Towanda High School, playing the
violin in the school orchestra as well as basketball. Following graduation,
Marjorie helped to run Rettburgs Soda Fountain in Athens. Her favorite flavor
ice cream was Hershey’s vanilla. In February 1941, Marge married John F. Regan
of Sayre. A year later, Marjorie and John purchased a home on Spring Street in
Sayre. During WWII, Marjorie worked at the Blue Swan Knitting Mills in Sayre,
manufacturing garments for our troops. Marge was a long-time member of Epiphany
Catholic Parish, serving three years as a school librarian and 19 years as a
Perpetual Adoration volunteer. She also volunteered as a nurses’ aide at the
Tioga General Hospital in Waverly. For many years, Marjorie worked as the House
Mother at the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing. Marge enjoyed travel,
baking and gardening. Her favorite trips included Yosemite National Park,
Ireland, California and Bronson, Missouri. Marjorie’s homemade apple pies, jelly
rolls, fudge and ginger snaps were big hits with family and friends. She was an
avid gardener into her 80’s, working diligently among her flower beds. While
raising three children spanning 37 years, Marjorie stressed the importance of
education and extracurricular activities. In 2007, Marge moved to the Chemung
View Senior Apartments. She drove a car until age 95, without ever causing an
accident or getting a ticket. One of Marjorie’s favorite memories was her 100th
birthday celebration last year. Marge attributed her longevity to a diet rich in
sweets and devoid of fruits and vegetables. She is remembered for her friendly
smile, outgoing personality and concern for others. Marge was pre-deceased by
her parents, Ray and Rose (Pipher) Perry of Sheshequin; brothers, Roland and Bob
Perry of Sheshequin; husband of 52 years, John F. Regan of Sayre; and
granddaughter, Cara Colleen Traver of Northridge, California. She is survived by
son, Gary Regan of Arlington, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and George
Traver of Northridge, California; son, John P. Regan of San Clemente,
California; grandsons, Sean Traver of North Hollywood, California, Connor Regan
of Santa Cruz, California, and Kieran Regan of Lawrence, Kansas; and numerous
nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Marjorie’s recent caregivers Mary
Robbins of Athens, Iona O’Hanrahan and Linda Lamphere of Towanda and the staff
at the Guthrie Towanda Personal Care Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be

of Sayre, Pa., passed away on July 4, 2019 peacefully at home. She was born on
July 15, 1924, the daughter of the late Michael and Victoria (Corbo) Peterpaul.
Laura was predeceased by her husband Robert J. O’Connell in 1966, her brother
and sister-in-law, Jeremiah and Kay Peterpaul, sister and brother-in-law,
Hortense (Tansy) and Frank Ennis, sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Thomas
O’Leary, sister, Matilda Peterpaul and son-in-law Xavier Chatard. Her memory
will forever be cherished in the lives of her eight children: Anne (Richard)

REGN -BARBARA 'JOAN' WILKINSON, 87, of Waverly, N.Y.
(and formerly from Summerfield, Fla., for over 20 years), passed away peacefully
surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, following declining
health. “Joan” was born in Camden, N.J., the daughter of Jacob T. and Elizabeth
Regn. She was a graduate of Athens High School, Class of 1950. Upon graduating
from high school, Joan worked for the Ingersoll Rand. After marrying her husband
Joseph, she became a full-time mother while her four children grew up. She then
worked for the Athens Area School District. She loved painting, gardening and
music. An avid reader, Joan’s favorite place to visit was Barnes and Noble. Joan
was a member of The Catholic Community of the Epiphany in Sayre. She is survived
by her husband of 67 years, Joseph H. Wilkinson; her four children, daughter
Cindy and Joseph Yanuzzi of Sayre, sons Jeffrey and Susan Wilkinson of Silver
Spring, Fla., Terrence Wilkinson of Jupiter, Fla., and Christopher and Kim
Wilkinson of Rochester, N.Y. Joan is also survived by her brother Henry Regn of
New Albany and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Regn of Nazareth, Pa.; brothers-in-law
and sisters-in-law John and Rose Hughes of Athens and William and Yvonne
Wilkinson of Ulster. In addition, Joan is survived by her very special grandson
Zackary Wilkinson of Rochester, N.Y.; special nephew and his wife Jan and Gloria
Park of Rome, Pa.; Joan’s very dear friend of over 60 years, Rosalie Marrone of
Athens; her chickadees Morgan and Megan, and several nieces and nephews. In
addition to her parents, Joan is predeceased by her two sisters, Sally Regn and

be held at The Church of the Epiphany in Sayre with the Rev. Andrew Hvozdovic
officiating on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 10 a.m. Family will receive friends at

away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. He was born on February 3, 1976 in Wellsboro,
Pa., a son of Gerald and Esther (Tongue) Root. Quincey worked for Tetra and was
a member of ABATE. He loved hunting, fishing, driving cars in the derby, and
spending time with his family, especially his son, Jamison, who was his world.
Quincey is survived by his two sons, Jamison Quincey Root of Sayre, Pa., and
Kristopher Charles Root of Ohio; two daughters, Destiny and Abbygail Wilson;

JANET DIANE RUMPFF, 63, of Athens, Pa., lost her
battle with cancer and passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Robert Packer
Hospital. She was the daughter of the late John and Lela Rumpff. Janet was a
1973 graduate of Athens High School and worked at the Tioga Nursing Home and the
Guthrie Clinic. Janet was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Dawn Conkling,
Marylou Rumpff and Bernetta Minier; and her son, Jason Rumpff. She is survived
by her daughter, Emily, at home; sisters, Carolyn and Bob Geiger of Lake Havasu
City, Ariz., Shirley Hickson of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and her brother, Jack and
Naomi Rumpff of Athens, Pa. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and
friends. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held on July 13, 2019 at Round
Top Park in Athens at 11 a.m. at Pavilion No. 10. ”I have fought the good

RONALD G. SAYLOR, 73, of Sheshequin Township,
Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at the Bradford County Manor,
Troy, Pennsylvania. He was born Oct. 14, 1945 in Sayre, Pennsylvania, the son of
the late Gerald and Phyllis Tuthill Saylor. Ronald was a 1963 graduate of Athens
High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War.
Ronald was a Master Carpenter and was employed with C.C. Allis and Sons from
1971 until his retirement in 2011. He was a skilled cabinet maker and finish
carpenter. He loved spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids. Ronald
enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the North Rome Wesleyan Church
in Rome. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Blaine and Maude
Saylor; maternal grandparents, Harold and Norma Tuthill; sister, Sharon Saylor
Cox; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Francis and Doris Ryman. Ronald is
survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Carol Saylor at home; children,
Stephen and Karen Saylor of Maine, John and Janice Saylor of Virginia, David and
Heather Saylor of Virginia, Shakira Hastie of Pennsylvania, Adam Saylor of New
York, Victoria Mosier of Pennsylvania, and Ruth Saylor of Florida;

served in the U.S. Army. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife

DONALD R. 'BUCKY'
SCOVELL - Softly in the morning, you heard a gentle call, you took
the hand God offered you, and quietly left us all….Donald R. “Bucky”
Scovell, 84, of Nichols, N.Y., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday,
July 22, 2019 at the Elderwood Healthcare Facility in Waverly. “Bucky,” as he
was lovingly known by his family and friends, was born on April 21, 1935 in
Endicott, N.Y., a son of the late Harry and Evelyn (Allen) Scovell. Bucky was a
graduate of the Owego Free Academy High School Class of 1954. On April 3, 1965
he married Vivian R. (Olmstead) Campoli and together they have shared 54 years
of marriage. A hard working and dedicated man, Bucky was a heavy equipment
operator and oversaw such projects as the construction of the Oakdale and Town
Square malls. In his spare time, Bucky enjoyed fishing, hunting and building
ponds, although his greatest pleasure was being surrounded by his family. Bucky
was a member of the Operating Engineers Union and a charter member of the
Nichols Fire Department. He served as chief of the fire department in the early
1970s and was the active chief during the 1972 flood. Bucky will be greatly
missed and forever remembered by his loving wife Vivian R. Scovell; his son
James Campoli of Nichols; a daughter and son-in-law Kelly (Scovell) and Edward
Smith of Smithboro; his grandchildren Brian Hill and Shannon Bell of Syracuse,
N.Y., Phelan and Joy Hill of Texas, Angela and Kris Engelbert of Nichols, N.Y.;
his great-grandchildren Adam, Madalyn, Mollie, Oliver, Lincoln, Avery, Vivian,

DONALD RAY 'DON' (MERT) SECHRIST, 83, of
Williamsport , died Wednesday, July 10, 2019 , surrounded by family. Born on
June 19, 1936 at Liberty, PA, he was a son of the late Frank Sechrist and Leona
Blanche (Melius) Sechrist Krotzer. He also was preceded in death by his
stepfather, Daniel Krotzer; two brothers, Arnold "Barney" Sechrist and Frank
"Duke" Sechrist; two sisters, Mildred Brown and Thelma Mase and one grandson,
Michael Schultz. Mr. Sechrist was employed in the lumber and timber industry for
the majority of his life. His knowledge and dedication resulted in many lifelong
relationships and respect throughout the world-wide hardwood industry. Donald
served in the United States Army from 1955-57 and was a member of St. Joseph the
Worker Catholic Church in Williamsport, PA. Donald’s loves were spending time
and caring for family, traveling and all sports. It can be said, without
hesitation, that Donald’s greatest passion was Little League baseball. For
decades as a coach, his character, guidance and love for the game, influenced
many lives. In his later years, he continued to support and follow Little League
Baseball. He was very proud to call Williamsport, the home of Little League
Baseball, his home. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Shirley Mae (Higley)
Sechrist; his children, Donald R. Sechrist, II and wife Brenda of North
Carolina, Teresa Dippel, and husband Leonard Peterman of Fallston, MD and Lori
Schultz and fiancé Chip Bosley of Keyser, WV, one brother, Robert Sechrist of
Williamsport; nine grandchildren, Donald R. Sechrist, III, Brandon Sechrist,
Brooke Sechrist, Matthew Dippel, Alexandra Dippel, David Schultz, II, Amanda

Schneider, Theresa and Matt Forsythe, Alysia Lewis; his mother-in-law, Ethel

Ruth (Koch) Shumway. After graduation, Jim began work at Stackmore Company in
Owego and then continued on to work as Head Building Maintenance Mechanic for
Waverly Central Schools, retiring after 38 years of service. He was thoughtful
with his engineering skills and enjoyed working with electrical equipment,
especially antique radios. Jim was a cat “charmer” and will be remembered for
the joy he brought to others as “Santa Claus.” Family and friends are invited to

SMITH -IDA P. JOHNSTON, 95, passed away peacefully
at her home in Sayre, Pa., on Saturday, June 15, 2019. She was born on April 29,
1924 in Norwich, N.Y., to the late Henry and LoRena Smith. Ida married Alfred
Johnston on Jan. 22, 1942 and he predeceased her in November of 2003. Ida was a
homemaker and mother to 11 children. Six of her children predeceased her: Jane
Anne, Carole Mae, Billy, Kevin, Allen and Jerry. Family picnics were Ida’s
favorite things to do with her surviving children and their families. Those that
survive her: Robert (Kim) Johnston; Rose Noto; Alfred Johnston; Sharon (Phil)
Gerould; and Roger (Linda) Johnston. Along with these children, Ida is survived
by 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siste,r Shirley (George) Geisenger and many nieces

SMITH -MRS. REGINA ELEANOR LONG, age 81, of
Laceyville (Golden Hill) was received into God’s care, late Wednesday evening,
June 19, 2019, from the Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital. Regina was born on
Feb. 13, 1938 in Stowell, the daughter of the late Elmer Smith and Eunice
Douglas Smith Dodge. Growing up in Stowell, Wyoming Co., she was a graduate of
the Laceyville High School with the class of 1955. On the next day after her
graduation, on June 4, 1955, Regina became the bride of Charles E. Long, being
married at the home of Charles’s aunt and uncle, M/M Leland Long, in South
Auburn. While Charles was serving his country, with the United States Marine
Corps, Regina and Charles were stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, during
his enlistment. Regina always said that their time at Camp Lejeune was their
favorite time of their lives. All of her life, Regina was a full-time housewife
and homemaker for her husband and their two daughters. She always loved to make
sure her home was as neat and tidy inside and out. She enjoyed to do her
housekeeping, cooking, and baking, especially in preparation for Christmas, and
tending to her plants and flowers. In her later years, she especially looked
forward to her class reunions at the Laceyville Alumni Banquet every year, as
well as her annual Christmas shopping outing with her oldest granddaughter. In
her spare time Regina was an avid reader, loved her crocheting, and spending
time with her favorite cat, “Kitty.” Most of all she enjoyed all of the time
that she spent with her family and friends. Preceding Regina in death was her
husband of 56 years, Charles E. Long, who passed away on May 20, 2012. Surviving
are her two daughters, Katrina Jean and her husband, Ray Davis, of Laceyville;
and Linda Sue Cook, of Berwick. She is also survived by her grandchildren,
Amanda Davis of Wellsboro, Natasha (Phillip) McKeon, of Laceyville, Hector
Davis, of Laceyville, Katherine (USMC Captain Justin) Nole, stationed in Camp
Lejeune, NC, Reagan (Jessika) Davis, of North Towanda, Zachary F. Lockburner of
Laceyville, Yuri P. Lockburner, of Spring Hill, Holly (John) Kelly of Berwick,
and Lorretta (Reece) Musselman, of Berwick; 13 great-grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren on the way. Regina is also survived by four sisters, Helen
Smith of Tunkhannock; Donna (John) Robinson, and Martha (Ira) Robinson, all of
Meshoppen; Bonnie Vitonovetz of Laceyville; and a brother Harold (Patricia)
Smith, of Danielsville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her
husband and her parents, she was also preceded in death by her stepfather,
Harold Dodge, of Towanda; two sisters, Betty Smith and Carol Smith Davis; and
three brothers, Donald Smith, James Smith, and Robert Smith. Funeral services

RONALD W. SNAY, 73, of 31 Moon Light Drive, Gillett,
passed away Wednesday morning, June 19, 2019 at home following his battle
against Lymphoma. Ronald was born in Mooreshead on June 17, 1946 the son of
Milton Snay and Jean Persing Snay. Ronald was employed by Harding Brothers in
Horseheads, New York, for over 35 years until his retirement. Ronald was a
loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family,
sharing stories, and creating laughter. Ronald enjoyed outdoor sports especially
hunting. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy J. Schonher Snay whom he
married on Aug. 27, 1964 in Elmira, New York, mother and step-father, Jean and
Celso Lopez of Columbia Cross Roads, children, Rhonda Salsman of Towanda, Vicki
Benjamin and husband Joseph of Towanda, Michael Snay of Gillett. Ronald was
blessed with 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his
siblings, Donald Snay and wife, Lois of Delaware, Christine Lopez of Ulster,
Bengino Lopez and wife, Mista of Columbia Cross Roads, Maria Lopez of Elmira,
Barbara Lopez and husband, Robert Crandall of Columbia Cross Roads, Pam Palmer

as well as numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ronald was predeceased by his

RUSSELL H. STANTON, 94, of Wellsboro, passed away
Saturday, July 13, 2019 in Pensacola, Fla. Russell was born Oct. 25, 1924 in
Colbert County, Ala., the son of Everett and Lena Corwin Stanton. Russell was a
World War II veteran who served on the front lines in the famous Battle of the
Bulge. After his discharge from the
Army, he attended Piedmont Bible College in North Carolina and became a Baptist
pastor. He then worked in home missions in British Columbia, Canada for many
years. In his retirement, Russell became a beekeeper and continued to preach and
teach as opportunities arose. He finally told the story of his war years when he
was 90, and it's recorded in a booklet called "The Bible That Went to War."
Russell was proud to share it with all his friends. He will be buried with the
Bible that went to war with him so many years ago. He was preceded in death six
years ago by his wife, Edith, after nearly 67 years of marriage. Russell was a
member of the Marsh Creek Fellowship Baptist Church. Surviving are his children,
Judith Ann (David) Cagle of Cantonment, Fla., David (Nancy) Stanton, of
Mansfield, Nancy (Bruce) Overhiser, of Haverhill, Mass.; two grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; sister Marlene Tait; and brother, Darrel Stanton. Russell
will be laid to rest beside his wife in the Wellsboro Cemetery. No funeral

STEFANIK -JANET GRACE BUCHTA, 81, of LeRaysville,
passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Janet
was born in New Hyde Park, New Jersey, on June 30, 1937, the daughter of
Alexander and Jeanette Strack Stefanik. Janet was employed by the Maxwell House
Coffee Company in Hoboken, New Jersey, for 12 years until retirement. Janet was
dedicated to her family and home. She enjoyed cooking, making home improvements,
and landscaping projects. Janet was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in
Towanda and enjoyed attending the Bible study there. She is survived by her
sons, Andrew Buchta and wife, Christine of Emerson, New Jersey, Thomas Buchta of
Harker Heights, Texas; grandsons, Alexander and Nicholas Buchta; sisters, Lois
Stefanik and Joan Spencer; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In
addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Buchta on
Feb. 6, 2008, and sister, Doris Henke. A funeral service will be held at 3:30
p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Towanda with Pastor
Jira Albers officiating. Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June

STACEY R. STONE, 33 of Gillett, passed away
unexpectedly, Wednesday, July 3, 2019. Stacey Ranae, “Sisserbug” as known by
family, was born Oct. 19, 1985 in Sayre, a daughter of Kenneth E. and Cherryl J.
(Heasley) Stone of Gillett. Stacey was a graduate of Troy Area High School,
class of 2004. Most recently she was employed in Customer Service at the Elmira
location of the Dollar General Store. Stacey loved looking pretty and was very
particular about her hair and makeup. At times she was a private person and
other times a social butterfly, being quite the jokester. Stacey could not only
take a good teasing but also give it back. She loved her family and will be
lovingly remembered for her beautiful smile, wonderful hugs and nervous giggle.
In addition to her beloved parents, Ken and Cherryl. Surviving are four
siblings, Anthony (Pam) Stone, Hunter (Maryah) Stone, Trapper and Autumn Stone

STRONG -IRIS L. BERGUSON
of Mansfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, following a
lengthy illness. She
was born on March 1, 1927 in Blossburg, the daughter of Stanley and Margaret
Grover Strong. Most recently she was a resident of the Care Home in Mainesburg.
She and her husband were owners of the Berguson Dairy Farm prior to their
retirements. Iris was a retired letter carrier at the Mansfield Post Office.
Their son Bruce now owns and operates the family farm.
She was predeceased by her husband Walter Berguson in
1998, her son Dr. Paul Berguson in 2013, daughter-in-law Peggy Berguson in 2013,
her sister Sally Ward and brother Stanley (DeeDee) Strong. She is survived by
her son Bruce and his fiancé Teresa Carter of Mansfield, and her daughter,
Deidre Jago and her husband John of Venice, Fla. She is also survived by six
grandchildren: Jeffrey, Dr. Mark, Tim and Dr. Luke Berguson and Jocelyn (Brad)
Miller of Conyngham and William (Leslie) Jago of Leonardtown, Md. Four
great-grandchildren also survive, Lillian and Soren Miller and Andrew and Alaina
Jago. Three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Iris was a long-time member of the First Baptist
Church in Mansfield where she sang in the choir and served on several
committees. Prior to her illness she was active in planning the annual Blossburg
High School Alumni reunions. She graduated from Blossburg High School in 1944
and attended one year in nursing school in Philadelphia prior to her marriage.
She and Walt traveled extensively and attended numerous reunions for the Second
Armored Division. Iris served as Secretary, Vice President and eventually
President of the Women's Auxiliary for that organization. She was an
accomplished bowler and was inducted in the Tioga County Sports Hall of Fame.
For many years she helped plan the annual banquet for the Sports Hall of Fame.
According to her wishes, there will be no public viewing. A memorial service
will be held at a later date. In lieu of

QUENTIN F. SUMMERS JR., age 70, of Troy,
Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 at home with his family at his
side. Quentin was born Dec. 6, 1948 in Elmira, New York, son of
the late Quentin F. & Elizabeth M. (MacKinster) Summers Sr.
He was a graduate of SRU High School. He and the former Emily
B. Eisenhower were married July 10, 1971 and would have celebrated 48 years
together. He was formerly employed by Growmark
Agricultural Supply in Towanda.
Quentin was an avid runner, running in many 5K, 10K and
marathons in New York and Pennsylvania. He also enjoyed biking, riding
snowmobiles, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his
loving wife, Emily B. Summers of Troy; a son, Nathan Summers of Troy; a
daughter, Chanda Summers of Longwood, Florida; two sisters, Quenta M. Butters of
Bentley Creek, Della A. Perry of Osage City, Kansas; several nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends. Quentin was predeceased by his
parents and two sisters, Dorna Coe and Roberta DuVall.

Waverly passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in
Sayre.
She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Carrie Spaulding Talada; first
husband, Lee Chamberlain; second husband, C.B. Rowe; sons, Patrick Chamberlain
and Michael Chamberlain; granddaughter, Colleen Chamberlain; son-in-law, Rick
Atkinson; two brothers and seven sisters. Charlotte is survived by her children,
Donald (Nancy) Chamberlain of Fairhaven, N.Y., Cathy Atkinson of West Valley,
N.Y., Robert Chamberlain of Rochester, N.Y., Brenda (Andre) Osseweijer of Texas
and Crystal Gloege of Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren; numerous
great-great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charlotte was a proud Gold Star Mother who loved spending time with her
grandchildren and watching and feeding her birds. She was a life member of St.
John Lutheran Church in Sayre. She loved to volunteer, volunteering her time

WILLIAM FARRER TAYLOR - Bill was born in the small
town of Blossburg, Pennsylvania on June 22, 1927, the only child of Louise and
Harry Taylor. His early life was spent with his aunt, parents and grandparents
nearby. His grandfather Taylor introduced him to fishing, which continued to be
one of his favorite past times for the remainder of his life. He passed away on
June 10, 2019 in Arcata, California. At his bedside was his wife of 63 years,
Helen Taylor, and daughter-in-law Erin Taylor, both of Arcata. It was only two
weeks shy of his 92nd birthday. He joined the Navy out of high school in 1945,
at the age of 17 and served two years in the Pacific. Prior to serving his
country in World War II he had also reached the level of Eagle Scout in 1943.
Aboard his ship, the ATA 176, he was an electrician, spending most of his
enlistment in Southeast Asia. He was eventually discharged to civilian life,
where he attended Mansfield State University for two years and then transferred
to Bucknell University, where he finished with honors in chemistry,
matriculating in June 1950. His plan had been to attend medical school, but
unfortunately his father died suddenly after graduation. He returned back to
Mansfield and the family business, which included a movie theater, real estate
and various stores. He was accepted to Temple Medical School in 1956, but had
one further job to do before leaving Mansfield. It was at that time that he met
his future wife, Helen Russell, on a blind date set up by her eighth grade
students. They were married on July 7, 1956 in Saint James Episcopal Church,
where his parents and grandparents had been married. While Bill was in medical
school, they had two children, Mareen Elizabeth and William Russell, and then
Thomas Harry was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in April 1960. By this time
Bill had begun his internship at Harrisburg Poly Clinic Hospital. Always the
outstanding student, he won the American Medical Association student new
physician award in 1960. Residency followed in pediatrics at Saint Christopher’s
hospital for sick children in Philadelphia. Interested in further training, he
was awarded a fellowship in pediatric chest disease at the University of
California Los Angeles Medical Center. The family moved across the country where
he was named associate professor at the university and eventually moved south
and became a professor of pediatrics and chairman of the pediatric outpatient
department at the University of California Irvine. Never one to turn down the
opportunity for further education, he then proceeded to a pediatric pathology
fellowship in 1973 and 1974 at Montreal Children’s Hospital, moving the family
from Huntington Beach to Canada. After the fellowship he returned to Children’s
Hospital of Orange County and UCI, where he was named professor of pediatric
pathology. He practiced there until retirement in 1991, after a being named
chief of staff and a board member of Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
Complete retirement didn’t suit him well, and he and Helen moved to an avocado
farm in San Diego County near Temecula. They spent 10 happy years raising
avocados, fruits and dried flowers before selling the farm and moving to Arcata
to be closer to their three grandsons. Although he loved the practice of
medicine, nothing took the place of family, friends and particularly vacations.
These trips included: fishing, sailing, skiing, bicycling and multiple visits to
family members and friends. He took particular pride in the accomplishments of
his children and their spouses, which included lifeguards, lawyers, doctors,
Olympic athletes and business executives. He is survived by his wife Helen
Taylor, Mareen “Reenie” and Greg Boyer, William and Carolyn Taylor, Thomas and
Erin Taylor and by his seven grandchildren — Natalie, Sarah, Andrea, Sandy,
William, Russell and Jack Taylor — and his faithful dog, Duke. A member of the
Christ Episcopal Church in Eureka, a memorial service was held there on June 22

ERNEST H. TEED, age 92, passed away peacefully
Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. He was born
Dec. 25, 1926 on Oregon Hill, the son of the late Henry S. and Charlotte
(Duffey) Teed. He married Letha A. Dickinson on June 24, 1950, sharing 69 years
of marriage together. Ernie was employed as a machine operator with the former
Borden Milk Plant of Wellsboro, retiring after nearly 30 years of service. In
his younger years, he also helped his father with local logging operations,
worked for Pine Township and served on the Oregon Hill School Board. Ernie's
hobbies and interests included hunting, fishing, reading and frequently camping
with his wife and friends at the Pettecote Junction Campground in Cedar Run.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Letha A. Teed, of Wellsboro;
three children, Sandi (Victor) Johnson, of Asheboro, N.C., Larry E. Teed of
Wellsboro, and Scott A. Teed of Liberty; five grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Leroy Teed,
of Oregon Hill; and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Ernie was
preceded in death by his infant sister, Julia. In lieu of flowers, memorial

GARY LEE VANGORDEN was born October 8, 1954 in
Elmira, NY the son of the late Mary V. (Love) and Earl C. Van Gorden. He passed
away peacefully with his spiritual wife, Cathy Phillips, his niece, Sarah
Siecieska and his sister Sheila at his side on Thursday, July 11, 2019. His
brother, Earl D. Van Gorden also preceded him in death. He is survived by his
children: Corey (Tara) Van Gorden, Dora Van Gorden, and Staci Van Gorden;
step-daughters: Christina Stone, and Monica Stone; sister, Sheila (Andrew)
Laughlin; brother, Dennis Van Gorden; 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild;
along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Gary retired from Catholic
Charities after 10 years of dedicated service. He was an avid outdoorsman and a

MARTIN B. 'MARTY' WEISBROD, 55, of Troy, passed away
(June 16, 2019) at Robert Packer in Sayre. Marty was born in Troy on April 5,
1964 to Lloyd and Bernetta (VanNoy) Weisbrod. He was a 1984 graduate of Troy
High School, was on the high school wrestling team, and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Marty was employed by Handy Hauling Disposal and in his spare time enjoyed
spending time with family and friends. He was always happy and was an all-around
good guy. Marty is survived by his siblings: Karen (Dan) Troy of Elmira, New
York, Donna (Bobby) Wesneski of Canton, Greg Weisbrod and Jeff (Kathy) Weisbrod,
both of Troy, Lisa Sherwood and Eric (Bonnie) Weisbrod, both of Waynesboro;

WOODWARD -ALICE ANNA DUNBAR, 82, of Canton passed
away, early Wednesday morning, June 5, at the Bradford County Manor, in Troy.
Alice Anna was born Feb. 15, 1937 in Troy, to the late Arch and Anna (Greenway)
Woodward. She attended Troy High School and was a graduate of the class of 1955.
In 1959, she married the love of her life, Lewis D. Dunbar, he preceded her in
death on Sept. 20, 2008 following nearly 49 years of marriage. From the time she
was married she dedicated her life to her family and helped raise her nieces and
nephews for many years. She played a very important role in their lives and
loved them just as they were her own children. Alice was a hard-working
individual and was employed at Canton Manufacturing for nearly 30 years until
her retirement 1999. Alice loved the “Duke” and watched every John Wayne movie.
She enjoyed crocheting, and listening to 50’s and 60’s country music. She was an
animal lover and adored her dogs and cats. Alice’s biggest enjoyment in life
were her grandsons always looking forward to times spent with them. Besides her
parents and husband, Lewis Sr., she was predeceased by her brothers, Lee, Jack
and Ronnie Woodward and a sister, Ida Morgriege. She is survived by her
children, Lewis Dunbar Jr., Penny Dunbar and Janet Dunbar all of Canton; two
grandsons, Johnathan Gilliland, Kip Buchanan; a great-granddaughter, Arica
Gilliland; sisters, Ruth Woodward of Pittsburgh, Doris Fisher of Hazelton;
sisters-in-law, Lizzie Bardo of Alba, Phyllis Woodward of North Carolina;

where he has been residing for his last years in Rome. Ammon was born on April
5, 1940, in Dover, Delaware, the son of the late Dan A. and Malinda Miller
Yoder. He grew up in the Dover area and moved to the Amish settlement in the
Rome area in 1970. Ammon was a self-employed carpenter and a farmer in his
younger years. He was a member of Old Order Amish Church. He enjoyed fishing and
treasured his family very much. Ammon married Ida Mae Miller on April 30, 1959.
He lived in Matrimony for 60 years. To this union there were born seven sons and
five daughters. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one son, one
daughter, three grandchildren, and three sisters. He leaves behind his wife, 10
children, 46 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, two brothers and five
sisters. As well as many nephews, nieces, and friends who adore him. A funeral
service will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Ammon’s son,
Melvin Yoder, residence, with Ray Byler officiating. Interment will follow at
the Valley View Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from
1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Melvin Yoder’s residence.

THOMAS D. TWIGG passed away at the The Legacy at
Highwoods Preserve assisted living facility in Tampa, Fla., on June 22, 2019 at
the age of 87. Tom was born on Jan. 31, 1932 and was predeceased by his parents
Ralph and Gertrude Twigg. Tom worked at the Ingersoll Rand prior to being
drafted into the Army in 1951. Tom was trained as a combat medic then fought in
the Korean War where he was awarded a Purple Heart. After separating from the
Army in 1952, Tom became a barber and cut hair in the Valley for 30-plus years.
He later moved from the Valley and resided in North Carolina, Texas and Florida.
Tom leaves behind his immediate family members: son Scott (Karen) Twigg of
Tampa, Fla., son Darren (Adiba) of San Antonio, Texas, and daughter Jill Lucas
of Aledo, Texas. His grandchildren include Aaron Twigg of San Diego, Calif.,
Eric Twigg of Tampa, Fla., Ashley Bubeck (Pat) of Ellicott City, Md., Caleb
Twigg and Jack Bush of San Antonio, Texas, Max and Maddox Lucas of Aledo, Texas.
His great-grandchildren are Lexington, Brielynn, Sofia and Cameron. Tom’s quick
wit and sense of humor will be missed! Tom will be buried at the Florida
National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., at a later date. Arrangements have been

WEAVER -DOROTHY DIEFFENBACH, 87, of Dushore, went
home to be with the Lord, Friday, July 19, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born April 26, 1932 in Cherry Township, Sullivan County, she
was a daughter of the late Milton J. and Edna (Kneller) Weaver. She graduated
from Cherry Township High School, a member of the class of 1950.
Her husband of 55 years, Bud J. Dieffenbach, preceded her in
death on Aug. 21, 2007. Dorothy was “Mom” to many due to her 57 years of driving
school bus for the Sullivan County School District.
She retired at the age of 81 on April 26, 2013. She is
survived by six sons, Donald (Annie) Dieffenbach, Thomas Dieffenbach, Tim
(Debbie) Dieffenbach, Louie Dieffenbach, Roger Dieffenbach, and Larry (Patty)
Dieffenbach; five daughters, Barbara (Paul) Neff, Kathy Fillyaw, Linda (Larry)
Hatton, Patty (Mike) Browning, and Lisa (Doug) Dinsdale; a brother, Milton
(Marian) Weaver Jr.; a brother-in-law, William (Eve) Dieffenbach; as well as
many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in
death by a twin brother, Donald Weaver and a brother Ernie Huffmaster; a sister,
Doris Kinsley; two grandchildren, Bud J. Fillyaw and Randolph Dinsdale and a
daughter-in-law, Petra Dieffenbach. Funeral services
will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019, at Shepherd of the Hills
Lutheran Church-Zion Chapel, 116 Carpenter Street, Dushore, with Rev. Phyllis
Pelliter and Rev. Ronald Dyer co-officiating. Burial will follow in Zion
Lutheran Cemetery, Dushore. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday
morning at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter Street, Dushore.

LEAH ANN MARIE WILSEY, 32, of Tunkhannock passed
away peacefully at her home on July 12, 2019 surrounded by family and friends
after a courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. She was born Sept. 19,
1986 in Tunkhannock, the daughter of Dale Wilsey and Jody Viscomi of
Tunkhannock. Leah was a 2005 graduate of Tunkhannock Area High School. She went
on to further her education at Keystone College, acquiring a degree in Sports
and Recreational Management, and Luzerne County Community College, acquiring a
degree as a surgical technician and RN. Leah enjoyed playing softball, bowling,
bonfires with friends and family, spending time with her two beautiful
daughters, joyriding in her Jeep, running EMS with the Tunkhannock ambulance
crew and being a member of the Tunkhannock Lions Club. In addition to her
parents, Leah is survived by her daughters, Kaleigh Brown and Paige Snyder of
Tunkhannock; brothers, Dale Wilsey, Jr. of Scranton, Corey Wilsey of Tunkhannock
and Tyler (Alexis) Viscomi of Reading; grandmother, Lillian Barna of
Tunkhannock; lifelong friends, April Shultz of Factoryville and Laura Kuzio of
Harveys Lake, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were
held July 17 at 10 a.m., at the Harding Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga
Street, Tunkhannock with Pastor David Stuckey of the Community Bible Church
officiating. Viewings were from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday July 16 at the
funeral home. Interment was at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Tunkhannock. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions to offset funeral expenses may be made to the

WOLFE
- ARLENE FREEMAN - Gone yet not
forgotten, although we are apart, your spirit lives within us, forever in our
hearts… Arlene Freeman, 82, of LeRaysville, Pa. passed away on Saturday
evening, July 6, 2019 at the Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center. Arlene was
born on March 25, 1937 in Plymouth, Pa. one of eleven children to the late John
Henry and Ethel Mae (Zimmerman) Wolfe. On August 20, 1955 she married Jerry R.
Freeman and together they shared 56 years together before his passing on
September 9, 2011. Arlene enjoyed camping, taking nature walks, trips to the
lake, spending time fishing and living a happy and healthy life. She will be
greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law: Donna and William McCurdy; her
grandchildren: Melinda (Robert) Gilmore, Daniel Brown, Andrew Mitchell, Matthew
Mitchell, Phillip Mitchell, Cara Mitchell; several great-grandchildren; many
nieces and nephews among them: Shirley (John) Hunt, Janet Carr, Dale Freeman,
Kim Birdsall, Barbara Cuneo and their families also survive. Arlene was
predeceased by her husband Jerry; her parents John and Ethel Wolfe; her daughter
Nancy Spooner and siblings: Henrietta Wolfe, Margaret Wolfe, Kathrine Chesna,
Wilbur Wolfe, John Henry Wolfe, Doris Warman, Geraldine Davidson, Sarah Freeman,
Barbara Stupak and Sandy Smith; and great-grandchildren Conner Gilmore, Brayden
Brown, Khloe Brown and Mason Brown. Family and friends are invited to attend a
period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Thursday, July 11, 2019
