GEORGE JOSEPH ADAMIETZ SR., 53, passed away unexpectedly at his Wyalusing home on the morning of Friday August 7, 2015, due to natural causes. He was born on May 8, 1962 in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late George Cyril and Rita Adamietz, II. A man who led by example, George excelled at his time at North Catholic High School and went on to secure a career in plumbing and electrical work that would follow through to retirement. His dedication and support to his family and friends was unmatched and his playful spirit lives on in those whose lives he has touched. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Adamietz, former spouse, Peggy Frapp, devoted children: Shawn Frapp, George Adamietz Jr., Steven Adamietz, John Adamietz, Andrew Adamietz, Ciera Ordonez-Sisco, Danielle Sisco, Logan Sisco, Connor Sisco, Cassidy Sisco, his beautiful grandchildren: Elaina Ordonez-Sisco, Nathaniel Sisco, Kayleigh Ordonez-Sisco, Lily Ordonez-Sisco, Emmett Sisco, and Gideon Sisco, and his caring siblings: Maria "Teeter" Jenkins, Madeleine Walsh, Kevin Adamietz, Lisa Sofia, and Diana Dunigan. There will be a public memorial service at the Adamietz residence at 165 Second Street, Wyalusing, PA on Friday, August 14th at 2:00 PM for anyone who would like to pay their respects and offer support to the family. The service will begin at 2:00 PM and the house will remain open to visitors throughout the afternoon and evening. Business casual / casual dress is requested by the deceased. ERNEST (GENE) ALLIS, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015 after living many years with Parkinson's disease. He was born to the late Leslie and Janet (Schoonover) Allis on July 20, 1932, in Allis Hollow, Pa. He is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Beverly (Pierce); his four children, Ernest Jr. (wife Debra) of North Carolina, Cheryl (Nix) (husband Barry) of Canada, Brian (wife Donna) of Vestal and Stephen (wife Tammy) of Delaware. Also surviving are his eight grandchildren Michael, Tiffany, Melanie (Ball), Nathan (Battams), Jessica, Hollie (Ames), Katey (Fisher) and Greg; as well as five great-grandchildren, Raechel and Caitlin Ball, Jackson and Lily Ames and Brooks Fisher. Gene is also survived by brothers, William (wife Ann) of Florida and Ronald (wife Cathy) of Vestal. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Allis. Gene retired from IBM, Endicott, in 1989, after 34 years and enjoyed wintering in Florida and camping at Lake Bonin, Pa., for the next 20 years. Most recently he resided at The Hearth at Castle Gardens Retirement Home and Willow Point Nursing Home, Vestal. Gene was an avid gardener and long-time volunteer fire fighter in Vestal. He loved fishing, country music and playing the banjo. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 at the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 765 Main St., Vestal, N.Y. Rev. ATHERTON –DORIS K. BEILING age 79, of Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, on Monday, July 27th 2015. Doris was born in Dubois, PA on October 10th 1935, daughter of the late Henry and Martha (Cramer) Atherton. Doris grew up in Galeton, PA later moving to the Elmira area. She retired from Thomas & Betts in Horseheads, after 17 years of service, also retired from the A&P Plant in Horseheads after 15 years of service. Doris loved her family and everyone around her. She loved Chocolate and sharing it with everyone to "sweeten" them up. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends and her dog, "Ruff". Doris is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles; daughters, Doris Jean (Joseph) Seymour and Kimberly (Rick Cook) Beiling; sons, Steven (Betty) and Scott (Kevin Fish)Beiling; grandchildren, Corey (Tara) VanGorden, Dora VanGorden, Michelle Beiling, Kathryn E. Cook and Steven Beiling Jr.; great grandchildren, Jackson Cook, Niaya Rodriguez and Joseph VanGorden; daughter-in-law, Marietta Beiling; special friends, Mary Long of Watrous, PA, Betty Miller and Dixie Molina both of Elmira. FRANCIS LEONARD BACON age 80 of Horseheads, NY went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 with his beloved wife Patty of 54 years, at his bedside at Arnot Ogden Hospital. Frank was born in Elmira, NY. He was a 2 time AAU Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in the 13 and 14 year old division, and a High school Section IV Wrestling Champion. Frank served as a Sergeant (E-4) in the USMC from 1953-1957. He was assigned to the 3RD Marine Attack Squadron, stationed at El Toro, California. Frank retired from Laprino Foods Transportation in 1998. His hobbies included, fishing, trap and skeet shooting, flying RC planes and playing cards with his friends. He was a member of the Chemung County Rod and Gun club for over 50 years. He was predeceased by his sister, Diane Bacon and brother, Joseph Bacon. His sister, Gail Hyland, ( predeceased by her husband Robert) lives in Lansdale, PA, Michael Bacon lives with his wife Lizette in Indiana, and his sister, Judy Fitzgerald and her husband Ed live in Lowman, NY. Frank has a daughter, Susan Carberry and her husband Joel of Big Flats, NY and his son, Jim Bacon and wife Ashley who reside in Horseheads, NY. He was a very proud and devoted grandfather to Isabella Carberry, and Lukas and Adrian Bacon. He also has many nieces and nephews and their families. EARL HOWARD BAILEY, age 56 of Elmira, NY. He was born July 5, 1959 in Elmira, son of the late Charles and Edna (Brush) Bailey and passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015 unexpectedly at home. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Martin in 2012. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rhoda; son and daughter-in-law Earl R. and Michelle Bailey of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren Skyler, John, Steven and Sarah Marie; siblings Elaine (Jeff) Schmoel of Maytown, PA, John (Julie) Bailey and Michael (Charlene) Bailey both of Elmira, Victoria (William) Covert of Harrisburg, PA along with several nieces and nephews. Born June 15, 1925 in Rushville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Frances [Goodwin] Baldwin. Her first husband, Dominick Lofaro predeceased her in 1963 and second husband, Thomas McGovern predeceased her in 1977. She worked for Mulligan Printing in Tunkhannock, PA part time for many years. She also was a member of the Rushville Church. Pauline volunteered for Meals on Wheels, loved cooking, baking & doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include her daughter, Frances M. JOHN RICHARD ‘DICK’ BALLARD, age 81, of Wyalusing, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Towanda Guthrie Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side. He fell asleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus. Dick was born on May 28, 1934 in Concord, NC, a son of the late William D. & Frances Towell Ballard. He later moved to Charlotte, NC, where he graduated from the Charlotte Technical High School in 1952. He married the former Sylvia Washam on July 5, 1953, and they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. He served an apprenticeship as an Inside Machinist at Norfolk Ship Building and Dry Dock Corporation and with the exception of 2 years active duty with the United States Naval Reserve from 1957 to 1958, he worked there until 1965 where he then went to work in Charlotte, NC for the Celanese Corporation from which he retired in 1992. In 2002, he and Sylvia moved to Pennsylvania to spend more time with their son and his family. He was a member of Eastgate Masonic Lodge. His hobby was Western Square Dancing and he called 20 years for various clubs in the Charlotte area. He was an active member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC and most recently at the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church in Wyalusing, PA. He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Washam Ballard and his son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Dr. Barry R. Ballard & Rev. Dr. Karen Ballard and by his two beloved grandchildren, Kirstyn and Wesley Ballard, all of Wyalusing, PA. He was predeceased by two sisters: Annie Richardson and Billy Johnson. MALCOLM C. BARBER, 66, of Maple St., Noxen, PA and a former area resident died Aug. 16, 1988 at the Wilkes-Barre Veterans Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born on April 30, 1922 in Eatonville, PA he was the son of Anna Wildrick Barber  and the late Floyd Barber of Eatonville, PA. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. Mr. Barber was employed at the G.E. Sylvania, Procter and Gamble and Morse Chain Co. for many years. Surviving are his wife, the former Phyllis Ann MacMillan of Noxen; his mother, Mrs. Anna Barber; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Murphy, both of Eatonville; five daughters, Rose Alee Carr of Wysox RD, Carol Ann Dymond of Tunkhannock, Janice Donovan of Sayre, Sandra Newman of Athens, Dawn Hoose of Troy; a son, Malcolm C. Barber of Wilkes-Barre. Fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Aug. 20, 1988 at the Nulton Funeral Home in Beaumont. CHARLES E. BARTON, 94, of Lecanto, FL, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015. He was born in Erin, NY on August 3, 1921, son of Edward and Liddie (Thomas) Barton. He was predeceased by wife, Addie; and son, Charles. He is survived by son, David; and 7 daughters: Linda, Carol, Donna, Sharon, Debbie, Audrey, Vicki; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Charles was an Army veteran of WWII having served in the European Theater. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, 3 Bronze Service Stars, Purple Heat, American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Charles was a member of the Van Etten-Spencer VFW Post #8139 and American Legion Post of Elmira Heights. BEERS –JANET B. MADIGAN, age 77, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Absolut Care of Three Rivers, Painted Post. Born on October 25, 1937 in Addison, NY, she was the daughter of the late Burdette and Dorothy (Lindsley) Beers. She was a graduate of Addison High School, class of 1956. She then went on to receive her Master's Degree from Elmira College. She married Michael Madigan on August 6, 1960. Janet taught special education for the Elmira School District for over 35 years. She had a love for NASCAR and antiques. As owner of 4:01 Antiques, she often set up dealer shops throughout the surrounding areas. Her greatest joy came from her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Michael Madigan of Corning, NY; son, Burdette (Michelle) Madigan of Addison, NY; grandchildren: Danielle Madigan of Addison, NY, Ryan Madigan of Addison, NY; and cousins: Hugh Lindsley, Jr. of Mount Doira, FL, Kimberly Lampman of The Villiages, FL, Mary Bowen of Ashburn, VA, Gregg Hardiman of Elmira, NY and Jeff Hardiman of NV. BENNETT –MARGARET L. BROWN of Edinger Hill, Laceyville RD 2 passed away Wednesday evening March 22, 1989 at the Trinity Medical Center in Minot, NC, where she had been a  patient since March 13 when she was stricken enroute to visit her daughter, Priscilla Keeney at Stanawayle, WA. Born at Spring Hill July 22, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Denzill H. and Susie T. Warner Bennett. She  was graduated from Laceyville High School and later married Donald A. Brown who  passed away in February 1986. She was a homemaker for him and their family. She attended the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville and was a member of the Edinger Hill Ladies Aid Society and a past member of the Rebekah Lodge of Laceyville. She is survived by  her daughter, Mrs. Mike (Priscilla) Keeney of Stanawayle, WA; two sons, Alden (Jack) Brown of Wyalusing and Arden (Bill) Brown of Laceyville; a stepson, Donald (Dale) Brown of Fresno, CA; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Janet Reimers  of Chambersburg, PA; eight  grandchildren; five step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Bennett in 1983. Funeral service will be held Monday March 27 at 2 p.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville with the Rev. BENNINGER –LAURA B. BROWN, Laceyville RD 1 died at her home Sunday  morning June 5, 1988 unexpectedly. Born in S. Auburn on July 21, 1899, she was a daughter of the late George and Bertha LaFrance Benninger. Mrs. Brown was a school bus driver for 37 years, driving for the Tuscarora Township Schools and later the Wyalusing area schools. Many years ago she also worked in the Skinners Eddy Post Office. She later became a housewife for her late husband, Floyd M. Brown who passed away in 1969 and their family. She  is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Gretta Holland of Broken-Arrow, OK and Mrs. Albert Shatinsky of Laceyville; a son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Doris Brown of Black Walnut; a brother, Gerald Benninger of Laceyville; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, LaVina Benninger in 1967 and two grandsons, Gary Brown in 1978 and Wilbert Brown in 1988. The funeral will be  held Wednesday June 8 at 2 p.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main  St., Laceyville with Pastor James Wentz of  the Faith Baptist Church in Terrytown officiating. GLENN F. BOYCE, age 80, a lifelong resident of Townsend in Schuyler County, passed away on June 17, 2015 at Elcor, Horseheads, NY. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Andra (Elder) Boyce; son, Glenn Jr. (wife Emily) of Madison, MS; daughter, Glenda (husband Brian) Dechowitz, of Harrisburg, PA; and two step-sons, Brian (wife Trish) Ervay and Corey (wife Megan); 8 grandchildren; 3 brothers; 3 sisters; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He spent his life in construction work as a heavy equipment operator. And, he was an avid fan of auto racing. BOWMAN –ALISON BOWMAN REAVES, age 55, of Meshoppen, Pa., passed away peacefully on Friday morning, July 31, 2015 at her home in Auburn Center surrounded by her family. Alison was born on May 5, 1960, a daughter of the late Robert D. Bowman (June 25, 2005) and Gladys Roberts Bowman (Nov. 3, 2001). She was the wife of Kenneth W. Reaves, of Auburn Center, Pa. She was a graduate of Elk Lake High School with the class of 1978. She also attended Susquehanna County Vo-Tech for business. Alison was a C.N.A. for 13 years with Carpenter Care Center in Tunkhannock, Pa. She also worked as a personal home health care provider in Susquehanna and Wyoming counties. Alison was active in the Order of the Eastern Star Meshoppen Chapter No. 70 and served as a Sentinel for two years. She was an avid bowler at Mountainside Lanes in Wyalusing, Pa. She was in multiple leagues at Mountainside Lanes for over 25 years which included the 7:00 PM Women's League on Wednesday nights and the Mixed League on Sunday nights. Alison enjoyed camping and fishing at Sylvan Beach, N.Y and Mill Race near Benton, Pa. She also enjoyed reading, baking, and especially playing bingo in Laceyville, Elk Lake, Montrose, and Turning Stone Casino. Besides her husband, Alison is survived by her children Jamie and Tim Ryce of Meshoppen, Pa., Allen and Alicia Bowman of Springville, Pa., Wade and Sara Bowman of Ringoes, N.J.; and eight grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother and his wife, Robert L. "Butch" and Young Hui Bowman of Clifton Park, N.Y.; sisters and their husbands Diana and Terry Wells of Ephrata, Pa., Terrie and Doug Taylor of Laceyville, Pa., Patricia and Nelson Brackbill of Troy, Pa., Gretchen and Brian Martin of Narvon, Pa.; brother-in- law and his wife Mitchell and Marita Martin of Grand Bay, Ala.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents Alison is preceded in death by five grandchildren. ARTHUR W. BREECE, 74 of 67 Nates Floral Estates, Ithaca, NY died at home Monday. June 1, 1987. He was born in Hazelton, PA, the son of the late Hazelton and Gertrude Breece. He had been a tool and die maker for 36 years. Mr. Breece retired from Morse Chain Co. in 1974. He had also been employed by Ingersoll-Rand of Athens. He is survived by his wife, Helen Day Breece of Ithaca; a son, Theodore A. Breece of Durham, NC; a daughter, Sandra Breece of Montana; a granddaughter; two sisters, Grace Eiffert of Milan, PA and Gladys Pepperman of Coudersport, PA; several nieces and nephews. BRENNAN –THERESA MARIE (BRENNAN) BAKER, 53, of Sayre, Pa., born Feb. 21, 1963 in Elizabeth, N.J., was called home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 28, 2015 in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She fought a hard battle with lung cancer. She moved from New Jersey in 1975 and was a 1980 graduate of Athens High School. Theresa was predeceased by her father, Joseph Charles Brennan; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Edna Brennan; and her maternal grandparents, Burton and Lucille Turner. She is survived by her loving mother, Sandra L. Turner of Sayre, Pa.; loving daughter, Evvie-Jo (Baker) and Rick Harrison of Pottstown, Pa. and their loving children, Isabella Grace, Hunter Lawrence and Lily Paige; her loving son Phillip Baker and April Wittig of Nichols, N.Y., and their loving children Makenzie Rose, Hunter Eugene, Dominick Andrew, Alexandrea Marie, Phillip Michael and Brennan Robert. Theresa is also survived by sister, Patricia Ellen (Brennan) and Thomas Savercool; sister Ellen Marie (Brennan) and Joseph Thurston; sister, Mary Ann (Brennan) and Michael Savery, all of Sayre, Pa., in addition to a host of loving nephews, a niece, great-nieces and great-nephews and two very special people; a niece Anna Baker and an "adopted" son Tristan Grubb. Theresa enjoyed collecting owls, nurturing her plants and spending all the time she could with her loving grandbabies. BRIGGS –DEBRA ANN (BRIGGS) BOUGHTON, age 59, of Sayre, Pa., passed away peacefully on July 28, 2015 at the Robert Packer Hospital surrounded by her family after battling a long-term illness. She is survived by her "rock" of 36 years, Larry Johnston, her son, Bruce and his wife Sherri, grandchildren, Mikayla (9) and William (4), as well as her brothers; James (Pat) Briggs of Sayre, and Robert Jordan of Houston, Texas, nieces, Keshsa (John) Belles of Sayre, Heather (Keith) Myers of North Carolina and nephew James (Nicole) Briggs Jr. of Sayre, along with many other family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Ruth Briggs, both from Sayre. Debra loved spending time with her grandchildren as they were the love of her life. Throughout her life, she was always caring and giving to others and she devoted her life to raising her son. She worked for the Robert Packer Hospital in the housekeeping department and later medical records. Her wish was that everyone would celebrate her life so the calling hours will be Monday, Aug. 3 at the Tioga Downs Racino Conference Room from 5 to 7 p.m. with a memorial service to follow. HARRY BRINK, 53, of Harford, passed away on August 8, 2015 with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his mother, Elaine Brink; a sister, Darlene and Brent Mack; and two nieces, Kamara Brink, Amanda and Jeff. He was predeceased by his father, Howard Brink; and a sister, Joann Grosvenor. Harry was employed as a flooring installer. He was a well liked guy. GERALD E. BROWN, 65, of 3320 Southeast 11th Ave., Ocala, FL, formerly of North Orwell and the area passed away Friday March 23, 1990 as the result of a heart attack. He was born in  October 15, 1924 in Stevensville the son of Claude and Julia Cannon Brown. He was employed at IBM in Horseheads, NY and has been retired for 15 years. Mr. Brown served with the US Air Force. TRACY JAMES BROWN, 18, Mehoopany RD 1, (Scottsville) passed away Sunday morning, April 3, 1988 at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock as a result of injuries he sustained in an auto accident in Windham Township, Wyoming County. He was born in Towanda Jan. 14, 1970, a son of Gary W. and Connie Baldwin Brown of Scottsville. Tracy was a senior at Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the class of 1988, where he was active in the on-the-job training program. He worked for the Ronald Brown Refuse Removal Company of Laceyville. He also worked on the Don Trowbridge farm near Laceyville as well as the family farm. During his sophomore and junior hears he was active with the wrestling and baseball teams at Wyalusing High School. He was a member of the Wyalusing Valley High School Lettermen’s Club, the Bluhm’s softball team, which was the Class A Pennsylvania State Champion and the national runner-up in 1987 and was also a member of the Tug’s Tavern slow pitch softball team. Besides his parents he is survived by a brother, Ben Brown at home; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Anna Brown of Scottsville; maternal grandmother, Louise Baldwin of Rushville; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Baldwin of Rushville. WILBERT M. BROWN, 47, of Auburn Center, Meshoppen RD died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday April 26, 1988. He was born in Towanda on June 16, 1940 a son of Floyd M. and Doris Newman Brown of Laceyville (Black Walnut). Mr. Brown was a truck driver all his adult life and was an owner-operator until ill health forced his retirement. CAPT. DONALD BUCK, USN RET., 59, of Eagle, Idaho died Sunday July 19, 1987 at the Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was one of a select few to receive a liver transplant at this hospital in June of 1986, but later developed terminal cancer, unrelated to the transplant. Capt. Buck was the son-in-law of Mrs. Blanche Bunn of 65 Lycoming St., Canton. He was born Jan. 4, 1928 at Emmett, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Buck. Capt. Buck was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy from Idaho and graduated in the class of 1952. He embarked on a varied career changing from his first duty on the CSS Phillippine Sea in the Korean War through flight training; three carrier attack squadrons; NROTC unit at the University of Pennsylvania; U.S. Naval post-graduate school, Monteray, Calif.; Marine Corps. Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan; test pilot school and a tour with the SubBoard of Inspection and Survey, Patuxent River, Maryland Naval Air Systems Command Headquarters, Washington, D.C.; the Pacific Missal Test Center, Pt. Mugu, Calif. and the Naval Air Development Center, Warminster, PA. Capt. Buck was a veteran of both the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. He also received the Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding performance as director of the Software and Computer Directorate and Director of Command Projects at the Naval Air Development Center, Warminster, PA. Survivors include his wife, Alice of Eagel; two sons, Chauncey of Salt Lake City and Ty of Boise; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Buck of Emmett and mother-in-law, Mrs. Blanche Bunn of Canton. OLNEY B. BULLOCK SR. of 9 Hernando Lane, Spanish Lakes, Port St. Lucie, FL died at his home on July 11, 1987. He had been in ill health since January of this year. Mr. Bullock was born Sept. 3, 1912 in Rochester, NY the son of the late George (Ned) and Catharine Booth Bullock. Later the family moved to Monroeton and he graduated from Towanda High School. Olney worked for the A & P in Towanda before going to Patterson Screen Co., which later became Sylvania Electric. He retired in 1972 after 32 years of service. After retiring he and his wife, Alta moved to Florida. Mr. Bullock was an avid square dancer, both before moving to Florida and afterward. He loved people and being able to help out whenever possible. He was active in the Sandpiper Square Dance Group and the Port St. Lucie Methodist Church. Preceding Mr. Bullock in death was his first wife, Dorothy Ransom in 1963. His survivors are his wife, Alta Madigan Barnes of Florida, a son and daughter-in-law, Olney Jr. and Jane Bullock of Rome and a daughter and son-in-law, William and Nancy Stewart of Crownsville, MD; a stepdaughter and her husband, Hugh and Alma Vite Clarke of Cornwall, NY; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In early years, she was employed by Sayre Lingerie and later served as a delivery person for The Daily Review and The Evening Times for a number of years. Nancy was formerly employed by the Bradford County Library. Nancy loved animals and was a member of several pet organizations. MR. WILLIAM RANSOM CAMPBELL, 73, of 8889 Tomstown Road, Waynesboro, Pa., passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015 in his home. Born May 14, 1942 in Sayre, Pa., he was the son of the late George William "Red" and Emma (Stone) Campbell. Mr. Campbell worked as a stone and marble mason. He and his wife, the late Mrs. Bonnie (Springfield) Campbell, were married Nov. 30, 1963 in Wellsburg, Pa. Mrs. Campbell passed away April 28, 2014. Mr. Campbell was an avid golfer who will be remembered for his lifetime membership at Maple Run Golf Club in Thurmont, Md. He is survived by three children, William Jon Campbell of Sterling, Va., Karen Campbell Jaeger and her husband, Shane Jaeger of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. and Kevin D. ALBERT R. CARRINGTON, 75, of Rome, Pa. passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015 at Robert Packer Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on July 11, 1940 in Sayre, Pa., the son of the late Glenn and Zemma Daughtery Carrington. Albert drove school bus for Northeast Bradford School District for over 35 years. HARRY W. CARTER, 59, of Laceyville RD 1 (Transue) passed away at his home Sunday morning July 3, 1988 following a long illness. He was born in S. Auburn April 4, 1929, son of the late Jay and Angie Clapper Carter. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Transue for many years and during this same time he and his son were cattle dealers in the Laceyville and Meshoppen areas. For over 17 years he was a foreman for PennDOT until ill health forced his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Transue Community Church and the Tri-County Sportsman Club of Silvara. He was also a social member of the Rought-Hall Post No. 510 American Legion of Black Walnut and had served as a past Democratic committeeman for Auburn Township. Before ill health prohibited it he was very fond of hunting. He is survived by his wife the former Doris Long to whom he had been married 39 years; a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Marjory) Harvey of South Montrose; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Marcy Carter of Transue; three sisters: Mrs. Phil (Grace) Rea of Waverly, NY, Mrs. William (Luna) Maurer of Long Island, NY and Mrs. Paul (Reda) Harmon of Baldwinsville, NY; three brothers: Boyce of Inverness, FL, George of St. Petersburg, FL and Mark of Laceyville; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. MICHAEL CHOPAK, age 83 of Prospect Street, Troy, Pa., passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Michael was born April 26, 1932 in Scranton son of the late John and Stella (Budjinski) Chopak, Sr. Mike was a graduate of local schools and attended two years of college. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He and the former Frances C. Chrzan were married Sept. 9, 1992 and celebrated 22 years together. Mike previously ran the Alba General Store and was the Alba Postmaster for many years. His memberships included the Troy American Legion and was a past member of the Troy Lions Club. He was a devout Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed carpentry and reading in his past time. Survivors include his wife Frances C. Chopak of Troy; children, Merilu and Rev. RUSSELL K. COMSTOCK, 69 of Golden Hill, Laceyville RD 2 passed away Monday Sept. 7, 1987 at the Veterans Hospital in Wilkes-Barre following a long illness. Born in Laceyville Aug. 23, 1918 he was the son of the late Foster and Lucille Keeney Comstock. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a sergeant in the US Army in Germany. While there he was wounded twice in battles and later received two Purple Hearts and various other medals. He retired a few years ago from Vandervort Mills in Laceyville where he had worked for 27 years. Aso during that time he owned and operated an antique business in the old Laceyville High School building. He was a member of the Rought-Hall Post No. 510 American Legion in Laceyville for several years where he served as post commander for many years. He was also a past member of the Wyalusing Valley School Board, serving from 1960 to 1964, the Good Will Fire Company of Laceyville and he also was a Wyoming County Forest Fire Warden for many years. H is survived by two sons and their wives, Tom and Irene Comstock of Laceyville and Allen and Melva Comstock, also of Laceyville; one daughter and husband, Ann and Tim Shotwell of Laceyville: two sisters, Mrs. William (Margaret) Thompson of Endicott and Mrs. Jeanette Webb of Wallingford, PA; seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Tokasz, who passed away in 1981. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville with George Ciprich, chaplain of the Rought-Hall American Legion Post 510 officiating. COTT –ANN LOUISE RINKER, age 78, of Forksville, PA, left us Tuesday night, August 11, 2015. Louise was born January 31, 1937, near Muncy Valley, the daughter of the late Lynwood and Helen (Montague) Cott. Louise graduated from Loyalsock Joint High School in 1955 and on November 23, 1955, married James Rinker who survives. Besides being a homemaker, Louise served 4 years as Chairperson of the ASCS State Committee under President Jimmy Carter. After which she worked for PA Farmers Union and helped organized the Pro Ag Association. She was a member of Forksville United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star and was a previous member of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club. For many years Louise had a shop in Eagles Mere where she sold jams, jellies and maple syrup. She enjoyed Williamsport Crosscutter baseball and Sullivan County High School basketball. Louise was proud to have been a personal friend of Congressman Paul Kanjorski and the late Congressman Dan Flood. Surviving in addition to her husband are three children, Ellen Lazur (John) of Selinsgrove, Jack Dymond (Kathy) of Dushore and Tony Rinker (Sue) of Elverson, six grandchildren, Jason Purdy (John Boyer) of New York City, Alycia Lazur of Allison Park, Natalie Dymond (John Robertson), US Navy, Guam, Katelyn Kreamer (Shane) of Troxelville and AJ and Ava Rinker of Elverson; a great grandson, Alden Michael Kreamer; a sister, Dorothy Norton (Malyn) of Shunk, two brother-laws, Carlton (Gloria) Rinker of Claysburg and Bobby (Viv) Rinker of Lebanon, OR and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. DONALD CROWLEY, 53, formerly of Ulster died Sunday May 14, 1989 at his home in Fort Lauderdale, FL where he has lived for the last three years. He was formerly from the Valley area where he worked at Staver’s Hydraulics for many years. Born March 15, 1936, he was a son of Joseph P. and Emily Smith Crowley. ARTHUR H. CULVER, 58, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Gillett, PA died Tuesday, July 25, 1989 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. He was born in Gillett June 20, 1931, the son of Ulysses F. and Jennie Queal Culver. He was a 20-year veteran of the US Navy and was employed by the city of Clearwater. He was predeceased by his father on Aug. 6, 1964 and a brother, Ulysses R. Culver on July 15, 1984. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; daughter, Yvonne Mauder of Bowie, MD, son, Arthur J. Culver of Virginia Beach, VA and two grandchildren: Nicole and Sean Mauder; his mother, Jennie Culver of Gillett RD 2; sisters, Mrs. David (Alecia) Byork of Wolcott, NY and Mrs. Rexford (Virginia) Maynard of Gillett RD 2; several nieces and nephews. FRANCIS CULVER, 62 of Lewis St., Naugatuck, CT died Feb. 13, 1988 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT after a brief illness. Mr. Culver was born July 8, 1925 in Towanda, PA, son of Catherine Bustin of Wysox and the late George Culver. He was a US Army veteran of world War II having served in Germany. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor by the Cornerstone Realty Co. of Middlebury. Besides his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Catherine Culver of Naugatuck; a son, Ardell Culver of Towanda and two other sons: Francis Culver Jr. and George Culver, a sister, Marjorie Brocious of Naugatuck; several grandchildren and a nephew. The funeral service was held Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. with military rites. Burial was in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. RONALD DALE DAVIDSON, 61, of New Berlin, N.Y., passed away on July 16, 2015, in Utica, N.Y. Ronald was born on June 14, 1954, in Towanda, Pa., the son of Kenneth and Berneata (Gregesky) Davidson. His childhood was spent in Ulster, Pa., where he was a graduate of Athens High School. He was employed as a quality supervisor for GTP Sylvania in Towanda, Pa., for 36 years. Ronald was an avid fan of the Yankees and Penn State. He enjoyed wood working, building model planes and remote controlled planes. He is survived by the love of his life, Jayne Baker; as well as his children: Richard and Jody Davidson of Ulster, Pa., Erin Baker of Edmeston, N.Y.; and grandchildren: Ryleigh, Gage and Lucus, who called him "Papa." He is also survived by his sisters: Beverly and Wayne Miller of Rome, Pa., and Loretta and Richard Welty of Sayre, Pa., many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Berneata. DONALD DECKER, 78, of East Smithfield died Sunday Sept. 25, 1988 at the Robert Packer Hospital. Born Oct. 14, 1909 in Litchfield Township, he was a son of Floyd and Emma Sackett Decker. He graduated in 1929 from Athens High School and had lived in Smithfield Township since 1933. He was engaged in poultry farming and later was manager of Monnark Mills in East Smithfield. Mr. Decker was a Smithfield Township supervisor for 37 years and served on the Bradford County Commission on sanitation for 20 years. He was a member of the East Smithfield United Methodist Church and the Rural Amity 70 F&AM and the Royal Arch Chapter, both in Athens. Until failing health he was previously active as a member of  the East Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, Tri-Township Ambulance Association  and the Bradford County Old-Timers Association. Surviving are his wife, Barbara at home; two cousins, Maurice Decker of Sayre and Barbara Ann Holland of Burbank, Calif. Friends may call at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 S. RINALDO E. ‘RAY-RAY’ DEPAOLA, 24, of Williamsport, Pa., formerly of Towanda, Pa., lost his battle with addiction on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015. "Ray" as he was known by his family and friends was born on Oct. 23, 1990 in Sayre, Pa., the son of Rinaldo A. and Geri Ann Stout DePaola. He attended St. Agnes School in Towanda and was a graduate of Towanda Area High School, class of 2009. Following high school, Ray graduated from Penn College of Technology in Williamsport where he received his degree in Landscape Architecture. He was formerly employed by Ettinger's Landscaping in Williamsport. Ray was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Towanda. Surviving are his parents, Rinaldo A. "Ray" DePaola and Geri Ann DePaola of South Waverly, Pa.; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Chas Roof of Towanda; a nephew, Charlie Roof of Towanda; maternal grandfather, Edward Stout; many aunts, uncles, cousins and his special friend, Aleafia Davalos and her children of Williamsport. DOANE –CONSTANCE DOANE BRENNAN, 64, of Liverpool, N.Y. and formerly of the Valley, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015 at SUNY Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse, New York after a brief illness. Visitation will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad St., Waverly, N.Y. There will be a graveside service at St. James Cemetery following the funeral service. The celebration of Connie's life will follow the graveside service at 3 p.m. at the Sons of Italy in Sayre, Pa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one's favorite charity. Connie was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Connie graduated from Waverly High School in 1970 and SUNY Upstate Medical University in 1973 with an X-Ray Technologist Degree. Connie married Larry Brennan in 1970 and worked at Upstate Medical Hospital until 1978. Connie and Larry moved to Tully, then Syracuse, and eventually settled in Liverpool, N.Y. in 1984, where they raised five children. Connie stayed home to raise her children and returned to work at WalMart in 2002. Connie also bred dogs and took special care with all of her puppies up to their adoptions. Connie loved traveling to the ocean and enjoying the sun and sand. She most enjoyed spending time with family, loved being a mother and grandmother and truly cared for her family. Connie was kind, generous, hard working, always busy with projects, and always had a smile and a laugh for everyone she met. Connie was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Connie loved anything with warm, bright colors, especially oranges and greens. She was especially fond of the color orange and she loved riding around in her burnt orange Honda Element. EDWARD A. DONOVAN, 72, of 36 Bliss Rd., Rome, Pa., passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the Specialty Select Hospital in Danville, Pa. Ed was born on Nov. 9, 1942 in Towanda, Pa., the son of Louis and Eliza Jane Ackley Donovan. He was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1958 and was later employed by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for over 35 years until his retirement. Ed was a member of the Monroeton Rod and Gun Club, and was a social member of Beirne-Webster VFW Post, Towanda and the Towanda American Legion. Ed was a former member of the Towanda Gun Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge in Towanda. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, NASCAR and painting cars. DOUGHTY –SHEILA FAYE NOWICKI died peacefully in her home on July 10, 2015 in Kill Devil Hills, NC after a short battle with cancer. She was 74. Mrs. Nowicki was born on November 21, 1940 in Norfolk, VA to her parents, the late Lillie Mae Fields and Walter Avery Doughty. She married Bruce Potter in 1957 and William Nowicki in 1980. Mrs. Nowicki held a variety of jobs and also volunteered at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. She was a mother to all, and her infectious laughter, kindness, and compassion will be greatly missed. Mrs. Nowicki is survived by her sister, Carolyn Hetzel of Manchester, TN; brother, Ray King of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Karen Peters of Rochester, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Jim Stappenbeck of Wendover, NV; son, Ty Nowicki of Brooklyn, NY; 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. ERVINE –LINDA JOYCE ERVINE JAYNE, 81, passed away at her home in Idaho Falls, ID, on July 14, 2015, following complications caused by pulmonary fibrosis. Born in 1933 to the large family of Ray Ervine and Hazel Bennett Ervine in northeastern Pennsylvania, she grew up on their farm. She went to a one-room grade school and the small Rush High School; there were 10 girls and one boy in her 1951 graduating class. Where's the story?20 Points Mentioned. After high school, Joyce entered a three-year program at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre to earn her Registered Nursing degree. She practiced there a short time and then worked at the hospital in Binghamton, NY. In 1955, she married Jerry Jayne at the West Auburn Methodist Church (a building long gone), soon to fly to Germany to join him, a soldier in the U.S. Army. They lived in Munich and Heilbronn with German families, absorbed a bit of German culture and were able to visit several European countries. After their time in Germany, the pair returned to Jerry’s family apple orchards in Pennsylvania. Joyce worked once again as a registered nurse, this time at the small hospital in Meshoppen, where the couple’s son, Steve was born. A few years later, they moved to State College, where Jerry took advantage of the GI Bill to return to college. In 1960, they moved across the country to Moscow, ID, where Joyce practiced at the Moscow Hospital. The next move was south to Idaho Falls in 1961, where she and her husband have lived ever since. For several years, until retirement, Joyce worked at the Riverview Hospital, where she made a number of friends among her coworkers and where the pair’s daughter, Karen was born. Joyce was a voracious reader of history, historical fiction, biography, classic literature and novels of political intrigue. She had a keen interest in travel. When her family was young, they camped and hiked in the national forests and other public land in Idaho and western United States. Later in retirement, she and Jerry traveled to more distant places, including Canada, Alaska, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine,Croatia, Slovenia and China. She did much of the family’s sewing and hand-quilted dozens of intricate quilts. She also enjoyed tending her flower garden. Joyce is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jerry Jayne; son, Steve Jayne of Idaho Falls (wife, Carol and their children, Greg Jayne and Haley Jayne Sandoz); daughter, Karen Young of Idaho Falls (husband, Kevin and their children, Christopher and Mikaila Young); three great-grandchildren; sister, Kay Ervine of Sayre; sister, Audrey Keefer of Elizabethtown and brother, Sidney Ervine of Salina, UT. Joyce was a loving wife and a devoted mother. Her grandchildren were fortunate to have her influence in their lives. She will be greatly missed.

HERBERT C. EVANS of Heart Lake, PA, and formerly a resident of Burlington Township, died on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Meadow View Senior Living Center, Montrose, PA. He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth V. Evans, nee Dudley, and his parents Herbert B. and Ida M. Evans. He was born May 3, 1920 and raised in Moorestown, NJ. Mr. Evans was a former Management Employee of the Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania. He retired in 1978 after 32 years of distinguished service, during that time he won many trophies and awards as a member of the company’s various bowling, basketball, and golf teams. He was also a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers of America and the Telephone Company Camera Club. He remarried in 1985 to Lois J. Haviland. He later was employed by the Bank of Mid-Jersey for 12 years, starting as a part-time mail runner then as a supervisor-mailroom and branch runners. Mr. Evans was a four-year Army veteran of World War II. He served with the 7th Division, as a Tech/Sgt., in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, including the Okinawa campaign and the Korean Occupation. He was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church serving as Treasurer, a member of the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Council at various times. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 3 F. and A.M., in Philadelphia, PA., a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Beverly, NJ, and a former member of the Burlington Country Club, serving on the Board of Governors and the Membership Committee. Mr. Evans is survived by his loving wife, Lois, four step-children, nine step-grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren. There will be no funeral services. EUGENE J. ‘JAKE’ FARRELL, 84 of Dushore died Sunday morning (April 17, 1988) at the Laporte United Methodist Home. He was born in Dushore Feb. 12, 1904, son of John L. and France M. Fries Farrell. Her began working at the Harrington Creamery in 1922 and retired in 1969 after 47 years of service in the dairy manufacturing business. Over the years, Jake held positions in every department: shipping, sales, maintenance, packing, storage and distribution. He was well-versed in the overall operation of a complex industry. At one time he was the branch manager of the Harrington Dairy Co. at Wellsboro, Williamsport and Sayre. Except for the time spent with the U.S. Army in World War II he was with the creamery all his working career. Along with his brothers, he also operated a producing diary farm near Dushore for many, many years. In his younger years he was an avid baseball player and one of the best catchers in the area. After retiring in 1969 he began working for St. Basil’s Church as sexton and cemetery superintendent, a position he held for 16 yeas until entering the Laporte Home in 1985. He was a member of St. Basil’s Church in Dushore and a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a third degree member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 3915, Towanda and a fourth degree member in Williamsport. He was a member of Loyalsock Post 996 American Legion, Dushore. He was formerly a member and treasurer of Pigeon Creek Club and also a member of the Wolf Island Club and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Surviving is a brother, William of Dushore; two sisters-in-law, Valeria Farrell of Dushore and Inez Farrell of Sayre; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 9:30 from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Basil’s Church, Dushore with the Rev. Eugene R. Carr and John R. Polinsky co-celebrating. FORD –ANNA FORD CHRISTIAN of Laceyville RD 2 passed away at her home Saturday Aug. 19, 1989 following a long illness. She was 84 years old. Born at Edinger Hill, Bradford County on June 24, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Edwin David (Ed) and Maude Singer Ford. She and her husband, George Christian were married April 5, 1903. They lived in Scranton and Clarks Summit before moving to Black Walnut in 1948 where they owned and operated the Three Acre Motel and Tourist Home. They moved to Laceyville in 1988. Mrs. Christian was a member of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, George M. Christian; two daughters and sons-in-law: Kay and Paul Ackland of Waverly, NY and Gail and Gerald Johnson of Laceyville and a daughter, Gwen Burgess of Mehoopany; three brothers: Budd Ford of Johnson City, NY, Romaine Ford of Binghamton and Ferdinand Ford of Miami Springs, FL; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; several nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Gwendolyn Ford Heisler, a son-in-law, William a Burgess and a great-grandson, Jeremy Austin Porter. GUY A. FORKER, 80, of Apachie Junction, AZ formerly of Herrick Township, Bradford County died Jan. 15, 1988 following a short illness. He was born March 23, 1907, son of Clarence and Cora Forker Casselberry. He moved to Arizona 10 years ago after retiring from farming. Mr. Forker is survived by his wife, Isabel of Apachie Junction; a daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Ernestine) Cronk of Montague, NJ; a son, Gary and his wife, Jackie of Apachie Junction; a sister, Mrs. Marion Hawley of Homer, NY; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. JOHN J. FRANKLIN, 56 of Mystic, CT died suddenly Monday  (May 2, 1988) while at work. He was born Dec. 9, 1931, a son of John and Jeanette Hunsinger Franklin. He spent his boyhood in Wysox and attended Wysox schools. He was a graduate of Towanda High School and Webb Institute. He was employed at General Dynamics in Groton, CT as a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer. He is survived by his wife, the former Gale Ericson of Mystic; two sons at home: Jay and Carl; on sister, Miss Jacqueline Franklin of Burlington; one brother an sister –in-law, James and Theresia Franklin of Nichols; one niece, one nephew, two uncles, four aunts and several cousins. ROBERT D. FRENCH, 52, son of Mrs. Alcie French and the late Guy D. French of Standing Stone died Oct. 20, 1988 at Iron Mountain Hospital, WI of a massive cerebral hemorrhage. He was born Nov. 17, 1935 in Belgrade Lakes, Maine. He was a graduate of Towanda High School and served in the US Marines for three years. He later retired from American Optical Co. after 20 years of service. In addition to his mother, he is survived by five brothers: Charles S. French, Mechanic Falls, Maine, David E. French, Chicagto, IL, Francis C. French, Mechanic Falls, Maine, James B. French, Virginia Beach, VA, Rosby French, Saco, PA and a good friend, Don Millbrook of Pembine, WI; four sisters: Patricia Rogers of Wysox, Edna Baton, Paisley, FL, Ada Barnum, Towanda and Violet Pardoe, Towanda. ATTORNEY JOHN JOSEPH GRIFFIN, 89, of Lake Wesauking, Pa., passed away peacefully on July 26, 2015 at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital. John was born on April 23, 1926, in Sayre, Pa., the son of the late John E. Griffin and Mary Carroll Griffin. He was a graduate of St. Agnes High School Class of 1944. In May 1944, John enlisted in the Army Air Force serving his country as a B 29 Flight Engineer during World War II. John was part of the 39th Bombardment Group 60th Squadron stationed at a base located in Guam. He flew 25 combat missions and seven rescue missions in the Pacific. John received an honorable discharge from the Army Air Force on Feb. 21, 1946. He received numerous decorations and citations for his war service including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Two Bronze Stars, and Victory Medal. After completing his military service, John entered St. Bonaventure University in Olean, N.Y., graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. John continued his education at the Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, Pa., graduating with a J.D. in 1953. John returned to Towanda where he began 42 successful years of practicing law. He first associated with Attorney Romeyn F. Culver. Later Attorney Marshall Dawsey joined the firm and the firm name became Griffin & Dawsey, beginning a long professional and brother-like partnership. Over the years the addition of Attorney Ray DePaola and Attorney Chris Jones formed the firm now known as Griffin, Dawsey, DePaola & Jones, located at 101 Main St., Towanda. John retired in 1996. During high school and college, John worked during vacation periods, weekends and summers for the American Stores Co., the J.J. Newbury Co. and Ingersoll-Rand. After passing the postal service examinations, he worked as a substitute clerk carrier out of the Towanda post office. On Sept. 14, 1957, John married the late Agnes Hoffman Griffin. John and Aggie began their life together on Second Street in Towanda, Pa. Their family quickly grew and in 1969, John and Aggie, along with their seven children, moved to Myersburg, Pa. John will be remembered for his commitment to family and community. He was a devoted husband, supportive father, proud grandfather, loving brother, uncle and cousin. His compassion, honesty, generosity and unselfishness extended beyond family; reaching out to friends and others in need was one of his greatest attributes. John held numerous past leadership roles in the community, including: President and member of the Bradford County Bar Association, Chairman and Board member of the Towanda Memorial Hospital, Board member of the First National Bank of Bradford County, and President of the Towanda Ambulance Association. He was also instrumental in the implementation of the Northern Tier Career Center and the Sayre House. John was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. At the time of his death, John was a director and the Chairman Emeritus of Tuscarora Mutual Insurance Company. He provided leadership and vision for 46 years, 32 of which he served as Board Chairman. In February of this year he resigned as Chairman and assumed the role of Chairman Emeritus. When not working, John enjoyed spending time with people, whether one-on-one or with a group. People gravitated toward him because of his quick wit and magnetic personality. John was an avid skier and golfer. He enjoyed his winters at his home in Beaver Creek, Colo. and spent his summers on the golf course at Eagles Mere Country Club. Surviving are his children, Carroll (Glenn) Wert, Eileen Griffin (Bill Shramek), Kathy Griffin, Attorney Mary Cummings, Patrick (Margaret) Griffin and Robert (Christine) Griffin; daughter-in-law, Mary Pat Griffin; grandchildren, Brian, Brigid, Kevin, Maureen and Maggie Griffin, Danny and Michael Griffin, Meghan and Matthew Wert, John Joseph "Jack" and Sarah Griffin. John is also survived by his sister, Mary Ellen (Robert) Landy; brothers-in-law, Henry (Glenna) Hoffman, John Hoffman and Jerry Madden; sisters-in-law, Catherine "Kate" Snell and Joyce Hoffman; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to his parents and his wife, John was preceded in death by his sons, Edward and John Brian "JB." GRINNELL –VIRGINIA M. BRAINARD, 99, formerly of Harford, went home to her heavenly father on Saturday, July 25, 2015. She has been a resident at Gracious Living Estates, South Montrose for the past four years. Virginia’s husband of 51 years, Hollis, predeceased her on July 10, 1984, She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Jack Connolly; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Mark and Pam Lewis; grandchildren, Karissa and Matt Chamberlain, Hollis Lewis, Erika and James Gething, Lee and Lydiah Caterson, Erin and Rip Van Winkle; great grandchildren, Seth and Brea Conrad and Piper Chamberlain. Virginia was a self-employed beautician and enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. She was a member of the Harford United Congregational Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the willing workers, and in her younger years faithfully prepared flowers for each Sunday service. She was also a member of the Kingsley Civic Club, including past president. Virginia was predeceased by her siblings Margaret Gambel, Christine Cole, Eleanor Jesse, and Richard Grinnell. SCOTT GRISWOLD SR. - On Aug. 7, 2015, renowned portrait artist Scott Griswold Sr. of Wellsboro, Pa., passed away peacefully. Scott also lived in Ocean City, N.J. and Ocala Fla. He was 96 years old. His wife, Marceil Packard Griswold and his daughter Nan were at his side and attended by the loving support staff at Country Terrace Assisted Living where Scott and his wife of 72 years lived for the past seven years. Scott was born in 1919 to Nettie and Floyd Griswold and raised in Canton, Pa., where he lettered in both basketball as a guard and football at the position of end. A lean-built Scott was once asked how he was able to score so many touchdowns, he replied with a smile, "I had to run like lightning to keep from getting "killed" by those big guys on the other side!" Scott was also a fine student and graduated second in his high school class. Scott's interest in artwork began as a young boy. In just the eighth grade, he lettered display signs in pen and ink calligraphy for Biddle's Mens store in Canton. After earning a degree in Fine Art from Syracuse University, Scott entered the service, went to Officer Training School and fought as a member of the US Army's famed Rainbow Division in Northern France during World War II. He was honorably discharged having obtained the rank of captain. Scott started his career in the advertising field as an illustrator, first in Cleveland, Ohio and then moved to Haddonfield, N.J. and produced full page magazine illustrations for Campbell Soup Company. Scott and Marceil soon decided it would be good leave suburbia to raise their two children, Scott Jr. and Nan, in the same little country town where they had grown up and so the family moved back to their hometown in rural Pennsylvania. Scott taught art in the Canton Area Public School system for many years. At one point, his wife suggested that he take on a portrait commission to which he agreed. This commission was to transform their lives and professional careers for the next 60 years. Marceil was an astute salesperson who built Scott's portrait following to great heights having secured commissions to paint for Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, George Steinbrenner, actress, Jill Ireland and many more famous personalities, finally producing portraits for President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton. To top this off, Scott and Marceil were invited to a private, 45 minute-long social visit with then-President Clinton at the White House one Christmas Day evening. Much of Scott Griswold's career involved equestrian art which involved extensive travel throughout the Eastern United States. Two artistic highlights were painting Triple Crown winner, Secretariat and the Queen of England's filly, in oil. Scott's sharpest artistic eye and softest heart was for canines of every kind. He possessed a deep affection for any dog he came in contact with and this fondness found its way onto each piece he painted. Scott advised young artists, "Draw what you know. Paint what you love." Scott enjoyed a wonderful sense of humor, often making light of himself in the process. He was very humble in spite of his talents and accomplishments and gracious to everyone. Scott was a loving husband and father; a friend and mentor to his children and grandchildren and is now fondly remembered and deeply missed by his entire family. Scott is survived by his wife Marceil; son Scott Jr. of Ocean City, N.J.; and daughter Nan Corsello of Skaneateles, N.Y.; grandchildren Scott Griswold III, Rebecca Griswold, Jack Griswold, Shelley Griswold, Sarah Morabito, Steven Corsello; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Church of Christ, Disciples in Canton, Pa., with a short service following. Interment will be private. HAIGHT –MARILYN H. PLACE, 80, of Towanda, PA passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born in Towanda Township on July 18, 1935, she was the daughter of Wayne L. Haight and Katherine Dehlah Shaffer Haight. In early years, Marilyn was employed by GTE Sylvania in Towanda and was later employed by the Victorian Guest House on York Avenue in Towanda for many years until her retirement. HAMMOND –DOROTHY HAMMOND KESTERKE FRIENDS, 89, of Millerton, PA, born January 20, 1926 to Radford and Nina Hammond in Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. Dorothy was an extraordinary woman. As a depression-era child, she began her lifelong work of care giving for her family at an early age. She raised a wonderful family of 6 children while working many years at the Bendix Corporation. She also helped manage the family's dairy farm and worked as a nursing assistant at both Arnot Ogden and St. Joseph's hospitals while pursuing a nursing degree at Corning CC. Dorothy loved her vacations, which often involved trips to Florida, and fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. She was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Millerton United Methodist Church. Dorothy spent her last years living at Bethany Manor in Horseheads. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude for the family and friends she found there and for all of the genuine loving care she received. THOMAS CHARLES HAVERLY JR., 87, of Towanda passed away on Aug. 3, 2015 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. He was born on Feb. 7, 1928 in Overton, Pa., a son of the late Thomas C. Sr. and Josephine (Hottenstein) Haverly. Charlie married his wife Sally (Brainard) Haverly on Feb. 20, 2002 in Dade City, Fla. Charlie served the U.S. Army in WWII. Charlie was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved working and going to Shamrock Auction Sales after retiring as a meat manager from Acme Super Market after over 40 years. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas C. Sr. and Josephine (Hottenstein) Haverly; brother, Harold R. Haverly; sister, Ruth Dieffenbach; and step son, Harland (Tom) Robinson. Charlie is survived by his wife, Sally Haverly; step children, Kathy and David Teel, Mona and Mondi Serafini, Kyle and Suzanne Robinson; step daughter-in-law, Yonne Robinson; several nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, cousins and special friends. Charlie never had any children of his own but had nieces, nephews, and step children and their families, whom he loved very much and treated as his own. HIBBARD –MARGUERITE SHUMWAY was born on Oct. 18, 1924, the only child of Mac Hibbard and Gertrude Rhodes Hibbard. She grew up on a small farm in Powell, Bradford County. She graduated from New Albany High School in 1941, completed two years of college at Albright College, and at the age of 19 began her teaching career at the two-room Spring Hill School, part of the Wyalusing Valley School District. She eventually received a degree in education from SUNY at Oneonta in 1972. In 1947, she married her beloved husband and life partner, Thurston C. Shumway. For the next 20 years the two of them made their home and raised a family on the Shumway family farm at Spring Hill. When Thurston became a full-time United Methodist pastor they moved several times to different parishes in Pennsylvania and New York State, ending that phase of their lives at Plains, Pa. The two of them then ran a nursery school and daycare center, the Rainbow School, for seven years. In 1994 they moved to Harvey's Lake, Dallas Township, and ended over 50 years of continuous parenting there by raising their two grandchildren, Keith T. and Kristina Shumway. In 2013 the two of them moved to Ithaca, N.Y. to live with their oldest daughter, Diane. Marguerite is survived by her husband of 68 years, Thurston Shumway; their six children, Diane, Eric, Allegra, Robin, Nina, and Keith D.; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two children and one grandson. In addition to raising six children and two grandchildren, Marguerite and Thurston opened their home and hearts to numerous foster children, foreign exchange students, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Throughout her life, Marguerite's great interest was children, education and teaching. She was a substitute teacher in the Wyalusing Valley School District for many years and ran a private kindergarten during the 1950s. She worked in many capacities for the United Methodist Church — Sunday school teacher and director, teachers' lab leader, organist and choir director, camp director at Sky Lake, Sunday school literature editor and contributor, and pastor's wife. She ran a farm vacation business in the 1960s and gave private piano lessons for many years. Marguerite passed away peacefully at home on the morning of July 24, 2015. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church, followed by a luncheon at the community hall. SHERMAN ANSON HIGLEY, 78, of Hillsgrove, died Monday, August 3, 2015, at Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Muncy. Born April 17, 1937 in Estella, he was a son of the late Lawrence R. and Jean L. McCarty Higley. His wife of 58 years, the former Marion E. Speaker, preceded him in death on June 23, 2014. Sherman served as a Hillsgrove Township Supervisor for over 40 years and retired in 2002 from the former Baumunk Lumber Company, after having worked there for over 20 years. He was a life time member of the Sullivan County Fair Association, where he held various positions over the years. Sherman was an avid hunter who enjoyed working with his horses in the woods, tractor and horse pulls, traveling, camping, and above all, spending time with his family. He also enjoyed football and baseball, especially the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Surviving are two daughters, Vicky L. (Richard) Bahr of Dushore, and Kay E. Bahr of Hillsgrove; two sons, Robert V. (Debra) Higley of Montoursville, and Scott W. HOFFMAN –GERALDINE M. CRANDALL, Avery St. Tunkhannock passed away at her home Thursday, March 29, 1990. She was the wife of the late Judson H. Crandall who died Jan. 4, 1986. She was also preceded in death by a brother Waring Hoffman and two sisters, Agnes VanNess and Joyce Rowe. Born in Wyalusing April 1, 1923, Mrs. Crandall was the daughter of the late Edgar and Achsah Waring Huffman (as is in obit). She and her husband were owners of Crandall’s Restaurant in Tunkhannock, later known as Jud’s Restaurant. She was a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church. Surviving are four daughters: Patricia Mead, nancy Klimas and Alma Custer, all of Tunkhannock and Barbara Crandall of Factorville; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. JOHN K. HOSTRANDER, 85, of Painted Post, NY, passed away August 10, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 8, 1930 to Lillian (Kohler) Hostrander and E. Bruce Hostrander in Corning, NY. John graduated from Painted Post High School in 1948. He was a member of the track team and the football team during his high school years. Following graduation he played with the Corning All-High Semi-Pro Football Team. After graduation he formed his own painting business. In 1953 John joined his father in the lumber business, Hostrander & Son on Bronson Street in Painted Post. In 1957 the business moved to Park Ave. in Corning, NY, from which he retired in 2007, selling the property to Byrne Dairy which is now located there. John is survived by children, Bruce (Ellen) Hostrander of Painted Post, Kimberley Hostrander (Linda DeGolyer) Elmira, NY, Mark (Cathy) Hostrander of Richmond, KY; grandchildren, Daniel Hostrander, Kenneth Hostrander, Stephanie Hostrander, Dylan Hostrander; sister, Audrey (Fred) Whitcomb; nephew, Darrie (Gail) Mase of Liberty, PA, and additional nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Beverly H. Mase. John was a family man who devoted his life to his children. He was an avid hunter, had a passion for the outdoors, especially the Adirondack Mountains, a Member of the Board of the Painted Post Field & Stream Club and President of the Blue Ridge Club of Indian Lake, NY. STANLEY E. HOTTENSTEIN, 89, of Forks Twp., died Monday, August 3, 2015 at home. Born August 26, 1925 in Forks Twp., he was a son of the late Frank Allan and Zora Bell (Schrecongost) Hottenstein. Stanley was a dairy farmer, as well as a former Forks Township Supervisor. In his younger years he was an avid fox hunter, who had a lifelong love of the outdoors. Stanley was well known for his generous and outgoing nature, honest and trusting, with an infectious smile and quick wit. He lived a full and healthy life, having a positive impact on so many others, leaving us all with immeasurable fond memories. He will be missed beyond words, and is forever in our hearts. He was a member of East Forks Community Church. Stanley is survived by a sister, Alice G. Lynn of Lynnfield, MA, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Hottenstein, and five sisters: Josephine Heverly, Frances Fetherbay, Lillian Ayers, Minerva McMahon, and Esther Rinker. CHARLES SPENCER JAYNE, 74, well-known former valley businessman of Sayre, Pa., passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 7, 2015 at his home following declining health. Charles was born in Waverly, N.Y. on May 12, 1941, a son of Lawrence D. Jayne and Gladys L. Young Jayne. As a youth, Charles was a member of Waverly Boy Scouts Troop No. 11 and was honored for having attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Waverly High School class of 1959 and was a graduate of Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., where he received his BS degree in Horticulture and Flora Culture. Charles subsequently served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War where he attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Following completion of his military service, Charles was employed by Yoder's Greenhouse in Ohio. He later operated his own greenhouse in Sayre, Jayne's Flower Shop in Waverly, as well as Radio Shack and Jayne's Electronics in Waverly for many years until his retirement. Charles was a member of the Litchfield Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of the Waverly Lions Club. He was a former member of the Waverly Fire Department and the Waverly Bowling Association. Charles enjoyed the outdoors and caring for his home and property. JENNINGS –MRS. SARAH ELIZA JENNINGS NEWTON, 81, of Palmyra, NY passed away on Wednesday June 22, 1988. Mrs. Newton was born July 16, 1906 at Black, the daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Barner Jennings. She graduated from Towanda High School in 1926. Choosing to enter the nursing profession, she studied at and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and the Manhatten Ear, Eye, Nose and Throat Hospital in New York City. On June 27, 1934 she married Draper Newton and they eventually moved to Rochester, NY. Mrs. Newton spent the rest of her working years in the nursing profession in the Rochester area. At the time of her retirement she was night supervisor at the Iola T.B. Sanitarium in Rochester. She was a member of the Union Corners United Methodist Church at Black for many years. She is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Albert (Julia) Crandall and Mrs. Mabel Shores, both of Towanda and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Draper in 1983, her sister, Mrs. James (Ruth) Newell in 1981; her brothers, Stephen Jennings in 1976 and John Jennings in 1983. JOHNSON –SHIRLEYANN YOUNG, 68, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015. She was born in Wellsboro, PA, on July 24, 1946, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lottie Johnson. She graduated from Troy Area High School. Shirleyann married Arthur Young on May 13, 1989 in Odessa. She was employed with Borg Warner in Ithaca, Shepard-Niles in Montour Falls, and Joe's Restaurant in Montour Falls. She was a member of the Odessa Wesleyan Church where she served as secretary/treasurer. Shirleyann enjoyed the outdoors and tending to her flowers. She is survived by her beloved husband, Arthur "Skip" Young; her children, Robert Spaulding of Campbell, Scott Spaulding of Odessa, Michael (Kim) Young of Victor, Kevin Young of Dundee, and Molly (Jason) Sawyer of Albany; sisters, Jean Sorge of Campbell and Betty Johnson of Elmira; ten grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, William Lewis Johnson and Theodore "Ted" Johnson. KEENEY –LUCILLE K. COMSTOCK of Main St., Laceyville passed away Saturday Nov. 22, 1986 at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. She was born in Skinners Eddy on March 13, 1885, the daughter of the late James and Nettie B. Bunnell Keeney. She was the wife of the late Foster Comstock who passed away in 1967. She was a member of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church. BRUCE M. KING SR., a.k.a. Big B, formally from Troy, Pa. passed away on Sept. 19, 2015 in his home in Deer Lodge, Tenn., from natural causes. He leaves behind his wife, Bonnie G. DUSTIN SCOTT KISSELL - Our loving son, Dustin Scott Kissell, 31, of Souderton, Pa., formerly of Towanda, Pa., passed away peacefully on June 22, 2015. Dustin was born in Towanda, Pa. and was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 2002.Dustin served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). He was employed by J.T. Bankers Restaurant in Souderton at the time of his death. Dustin loved his family and the ocean. PEGGY J. LYON of Big Flats: Age 70, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015. Peg was born in Elmira and grew up in Horseheads, a daughter of Jean Gelder McKee and the late Glenn Lyon. She is also predeceased by her sister Linda Sipe and brothers-in-law, Ray Wells and Jim Yost. In addition to her mother Peg is survived by life partner Pat Templeton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Joey Nelson of McArthur OH; Laurie Yost of Omaha NE; Ted Sipe of Muncy PA; along with several nieces, nephews and many good friends. Peg was a 34 year employee of the Elmira Star Gazette, retiring as Graphics Director at the age of 55 to spend more time pursuing her love of painting (oils, watercolors and pastels) and devote more time to her art studio. She won a Palette Award from the Arnot Art Museum for her work. Peg's paintings can be found all over the United States and abroad. She did not limit herself to graphics and painting. She also enjoyed golfing, kayaking, was a glider pilot, cooking…the more people she cooked for the better. She also had a love of cars earning her the nickname of "Piston Head". She was involved with road rallies and loved buying new cars! A real people person, Peg had a great sense of humor, was a "glass half full" person and loved to be around positive people. ALFRED M. MARTIN of Wellsburg, NY, also known as Big Al or Sonny by his loved ones, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA following an illness. MARTIN –PEARL L. BROWN, 89, of Troy RD 3, formerly of New Albany and Laceyville died Sunday morning July 17, 1988 at the Bradford County Manor. Born Oct. 26, 1898 on Cahill Mountain, Overton Township, she was a daughter of the late George and Lina Updegraff Martin. Mrs. Brown was employed for many years by the Rynveld Wreath Co. in New Albany. She attended the New Albany Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Irene Brown of Monroeton RD 1 (Powell); a granddaughter, Mrs. Donald (Clara) Gowin of New Albany; four great-grandchildren; seven  great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil Martin of Hawthorne, FL; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Nimtz of Senior Citizens Building in North Towanda; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Irvin James Brown in 1962. The funeral and committal service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda with the Rev. MATHEWSON –MARIANNE BAILEY - Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen unheard but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear….Our loving mom, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Marianne Bailey, 56, of Owego passed away following a courageous battle with Cancer. Marianne was born on August 30, 1958 in Endicott, a daughter of the late Norman and Nancy (Sherwood) Mathewson. She was a graduate of Owego Free Academy class of 1976 and the Arnot School of Nursing. Devoted to the care of others, Marianne was a registered nurse at the Arnot Hospital for over 25 years, served as a Chemung County Rural Health Nurse and most recently worked at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Owego until her health started to fail her in April. She treasured the time spent with her family, was a amazing baker, and will be remembered for her Christmas cookies and delicious pies. Marianne enjoyed reading, traveling to Alaska and being close to her family. MCCARTY –ELIZABETH M. (MCCARTY) REDDER, age 82, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Elizabeth was born in Big Flats, NY on April 9th 1933, daughter of the late Robert and Marion (Bullock) McCarty. Elizabeth spent much of her childhood with her beloved aunt and uncle, Arthur and Lillian Wells in Cohocton, NY and was a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in 1949. Early in life she married John E. Redder and became a founding officer, with her husband, of Totem Taxi in Elmira. Later in life, Elizabeth earned her nursing degree from Corning Community College and attended Elmira College for additional education. As a traveling psychiatric nurse, she enjoyed living and working in a variety of regions including, Los Angeles, Alaska, The Virgin Islands and New Orleans. Elizabeth enjoyed quilting and was an avid reader who had a lifelong passion for books. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family. Elizabeth is survived by her seven children, John, Patrick (Patricia), Christopher (Katherine), Rebecca, William (Patricia), Mark and Kathleen (Junius Hill); many grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Redder (Mark). A private memorial service in memory of Elizabeth will take place at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home with Fr. JOHN H. MCCORMICK, age 72 of Elmira, NY died on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. John was born on August 22, 1942 in Sayre, PA to the late Howard J. John is survived by his wife, Terry McCormick; children, John Riley McCormick & Katherine Marie McCormick both at home; daughter and son-in-law, Shannon & Schuyler of Beaver Dams, NY; grandson, Alexander Schuyler Goltry of Beaver Dams, NY; his best buds & companions, Finnegan & Tullamore. John attended Athens Senior High School class of 1960. He was a United States Navy veteran serving from 1960-1969; Vietnam, from 1966-1969. John retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Sayre, PA after many years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Williamsport Temple Association, lifelong member of the Sayre Elks Club & member of Grace Episcopal Church, Elmira. MILLER –NAOMI A. BROWN, 52, of Forksville, wife of Stanley W. Brown died Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 1989) at her home following a relatively short illness. She was born Feb. 22, 1937 in Forksville, a daughter of the late Frederick and Delores Beven Miller. She was a life-time Sullivan County resident and had graduated from the Loyalsock High School. She was a member of the Forksville Fire Company, the Sullivan Co. Fire-Police Association and was secretary of the Sullivan Co. Fire Dept. For years she had been involved with many 4-H programs and the Sullivan Co. Little League. She was also instrumental in helping get EMT training and trained operators in the Forksville area for the ambulance and fire company. She had also been a driver for the Forksville Fire Co. for many years. She and her husband, Stanley had for many years run the chicken barbeques for the Pennsylvania Bow Hunters Festival in Forksville. Surviving is her husband, Stanley W. at home; five daughters, Mrs. Marilee Kintzer  of Muncy, Mrs. Linda Etzel, Miss Sarah Brown, both of Forksville, Mrs. Darlene Fenton of Wichita, Kansas and Miss Marlene Brown of Canoga Park, CA; three sons, Frederick with the US Air Force at Oklahoma City, OK, Steven and Tracy, both at home; three brothers, Norman Miller of Mildred, Henry Miller and Larry Miller, both of Carlisle; on sister, Mrs. Nesta Myers of Forksville; five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Forksville United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Reynolds, pastor officiating. There will be no viewing. DUANE PAUL NEWMAN, 63, passed away in the arms of his son, daughter-in- law, and the love of the Lord Jesus Christ the morning of September 17, 2015 in his home. He lived in Orlando, FL for thirteen years with his son, Dustin and Nikki Newman and grandsons Tyson, Bryce, and Izaiah. Duane was born in Waverly, NY to Clifford and Rebecca Bill Newman as a premature child with a strong will to survive. Duane was second born having two sisters and one brother, Debbie (Jan) Cole, Danette (Dave) Reis and youngest brother Daniel (Lindsey) Newman. In his earlier years Duane lived in upstate New York graduating from Owego Free Academy Class of 1970 and attended Tompkins Cortland Community College where he touched many lives and met his wife Kathryn. In their twenty-one years of marriage they were blessed with three beautiful children, Dustin (Nikki) Newman, Kristin (Gray) Masencup, and Kecia (Allen) Ham. His legacy will naturally outlive him through his beloved six grandchildren, Izaiah, Bryce, Tyson, Brooke, Edward, and newborn baby Abigail. Duane had many friends he impacted throughout his years in upstate NY. He enjoyed the majestic falls, county fairs, music festivals, competing with the O.F.D NYS Championship Hose Team, and loved the outdoors. Duane and his father shared many moments while working together as Cliff Newman and Son Auction Service. In 1982 with the help of his brother Dan, the Newman clan moved to Spring Hill to raise his family in sunny Florida. Duane had numerous jobs (automotive, construction, golf course maintenance) throughout his life but the most important one to him was being a loving Dad and “Pops”. He provided his children with small town values by coaching little league, leading Boy Scouts, being active in the Church and participating in Father/Daughter dances. He had a love for sports, tailgating, dancing, bowling, billiards, Halloween and BBQs with his family and friends. Duane was a spiritual man that loved the peaceful morning sun, dew covered grass, a cup of coffee and a pen. He wrote many beautiful poems and prayers that will be shared for many generations. Duane’s spirit and soul will forever shine down on his loved ones, including Doris Blackman, nephews BJ & Adam Cole, Joshua Reis, niece Lorelai Newman, great-nephew Caleb Cole, great-niece Emmy Cole, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. We know he is watching over us all with baby blue eyes and a huge smile that always lit up a room. Shine bright Duane. TIMOTHY JOHN OLIVER SR., 39, of Troy Pa. passed away on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015 at the Troy Community Hospital. Tim was born on May 2, 1976 in Sayre, Pa., a son of Howard James and Charlotte May (Winnie) Oliver, Sr. of Big Pond, Pa. He was an auto mechanic at Meineke Car Care, enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles, and was an avid gun collector. Tim was Christian by faith. ORDWAY –BONNIE J. AUSTIN, age 69 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Friday July 24, 2015 at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY due to complication of recent surgery. Bonnie was born February 18, 1946 in Elmira, NY the daughter of James and Delores Louise Johnson Ordway. She was pre-deceased by her father, James F. Ordway, in December 1945 prior to her birth. Bonnie married her husband, Albert N. Austin, on November 17, 1962 and they would have celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary this year. Bonnie was also pre-deceased by her step-father, Francis D. Palmer on November 20, 1999 and by her brother, Joseph Palmer in 2014. Bonnie loved her family and friends and especially her grandchildren. She loved sewing, knitting, and crafts and she knitted several hundred pairs of mittens and donated them and clothing to the homeless and those in need in Chemung County. Bonnie was a member of The Old Timer's Association of Chemung County. Bonnie is survived by her loving and devoted husband Albert N. PARKHURST –BETSY LEE JAYNE, age 51, of Spring Hill Road, Laceyville, PA passed away unexpectedly at her home early Monday morning, December 28, 2015. Betsy was born on March 28, 1964 in Sayre, PA the daughter of the late Hugh who passed away September 29, 2011 and Agnes Owen Parkhurst, Sr. who passed away May 7, 1989. She graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School with the class of 1982. Betsy was also enrolled in the C.N.A. Nursing Program, at the Bradford Co. Vo-Tech, during that time. Betsy enjoyed collecting Mickey Mouse memorabilia, gardening, and camping with her family every year. She took great pleasure in spending time with her family and friends. She loved her animals especially her three cats Charlie, Mister, Shadow, and her dog Rasstess. She loved being a stay at home mother and housewife for her family. Her favorite of all was seeing all of her children and grandchildren laughing. PAYNER –SHIRLEY J. SAIK, 81, Halsey Valley, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at her son's home in Seneca Falls. She was born in Sheshequin Township, Bradford County, Pa., the daughter of Floyd Silas Payner and Mattie Phoebe Myers. Shirley is survied by daughter, Susan (Doug) Dean, King Ferry; son, James (Shannon) Saik, Seneca Falls; grandchildren, Kendal, Kali, Logan, Derek, Megan, Madison and Miranda; siblings, Grace Scrivener, Sylvia Higgins and Elmer Payne; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Saik, and her siblings, Ida Mastellar, Mike Payne, Fred Payne, Phyllis Williams, Wilbur Payne, Mabel Fice, Marie Horton, Carlton (Pete) Payne, Irene Rumsey, Alice Terault and Martin Stevens. She owned and operated her family farm from 1979 to 1993. She had worked at the Spencer Big M as a cashier. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed knitting and loved her grandchildren very much. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Allen-Manzer Funeral Home in Spencer with Mr. Dan Perry officiating. RUSSELL C. PEEL, 74, of Ulster, Pa., passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2015 at the Specialty Select Hospital in Danville, Pa. Russell was born Jan. 16, 1936 in Trenton, N.J., the son of Ernest and Frances Peel. On March 30, 1957 he married the former Audrey A. Nelson in Trenton, N.J. Russell was employed as a truck driver for many years. Russell and Audrey moved to the Ulster area in 1986 where they operated Peel's Country Place on the Ulster-East Smithfield Road for over 15 years. He was preceded in death by Audrey his wife of 50 years on June 9, 2008. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, David C. and Beth Peel and granddaughter, Robyn Peel all of Yardley, Pa.; his sister, Barbara Peel of Levittown, Pa.; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. JOHN J. PETERMAN JR., 92, of Nordmont, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015, at his home. Born January 19, 1923 in Nordmont, he was a son of the late John Sr. and Ruth Houseknecht Peterman. John graduated from the Sullivan Highlands School, Sonestown, on June 6, 1941, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy 11 days later. He spent most of WWII underwater, having spent his early years in submarines. John was initially assigned to the USS Flying Fish SS229; and while aboard, John made nine war patrols, having a part in the Battle of Midway, patrolling the Truk Lagoon off the Caroline Islands and patrolling in the Sea of Japan. During the war, John became pen pals with a shipmate’s sister-in-law. Upon the conclusion of WWII, he set out to meet his pen pal in Independence, MO, and married the lovely, Mary Lubek 11 days later. They would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on October 20, 2015. John was a Navy man, having a distinguished career that would span 31 years. After serving aboard submarines for 11 years, he became a torpedo instructor. In 1955, John became a commissioned officer, serving at ammunition depots in New Jersey and California. He also spent time on the USS Henrico APA45 as a gunnery officer, and then on the USS Sperry AS12 as a weapons repair officer. He served the last five years of his Navy career as an underwater weapons officer in Newport, RI. Upon retiring in 1972 as a lieutenant commander, he returned home to his native Sullivan County, where he served a term as county Sheriff, and as a Laporte Township Supervisor. John was an active member of the community. He served on the Sullivan County Democratic Committee, until the past year, was an active member of the American Legion Post 601, Sonestown, where he served as Post Commander, Treasurer, and most recently as Chaplain. He has been a lead organizer of the “Duck Derby” for Post 601, in which the proceeds benefited the American Cancer Society. John was also a member of the New Albany VFW, and continued to be active in the U.S. Submarine Veterans Association (USSVI), Williamsport. An avid sportsman and environmentalist, John’s 100 plus acres in Davidson and Laporte Townships were certified as a Pennsylvania “Tree Farm” by the Department of Natural Resources. He was a member of the North Mountain Sportsman Association, Consolidated Sportsman of Muncy Creek and the Valley United Methodist Church, Muncy Valley. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, John (Marie) Peterman of West Chester, Ron (Susan) Peterman of Portsmouth, VA, and Leonard (Teresa) Peterman of Fallston, MD; a daughter, Sharon (Leo) Cullen of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; two brothers, Ward Peterman of Binghamton, NY, and Dan Peterman of Nordmont; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Miller. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Cherry Grove Chapel, Nordmont, with Pastor Craig Livermore officiating. PLACE –AMY PLACE BARNES - The family of Amy Place Barnes is saddened by her passing on July 14, 2015. Amy will live on in our hearts and be remembered for her many talents, accomplishments and friendships amassed over her lifetime. Amy/Mom was born Amy Elizabeth Place on Dec. 28, 1919 in South Towanda in the 21-room brick building next to the railroad tracks — no longer there as of several years ago. Raised in Monroeton with seven brothers and sisters, she attended grade school at Monroeton, attended Towanda High School, played clarinet in the Towanda High School Band, and was selected to play in the Pennsylvania All State Band in Coatsville, Pa. Amy went to Miss Cranmers for piano lessons, walking from her childhood home on Mechanic Street at the bottom of the Burlington Turnpike, along the railroad track, having her lesson before school started. She used her musical abilities to play the piano and organ for the Monroeton Presbyterian Church and the Towanda Presbyterian Sunday School services. Amy lived with her family in the Towanda jail on Pine Street during the time her father, Fred W. Place, was the Deputy Sheriff. Her mother, Daisy E. Place, was tip staff at the courthouse, and Amy assisted with courthouse cleaning duties. After Amy's graduation in 1937, she worked at Wilcox's Restaurant in Monroeton for 12 1/2 cents an hour (where a nickel tip was a big deal), the Myrna Lee Hosiery Mill, GTE Sylvania in wire drawing, and the Eclipse in Elmira, N.Y., where she pre-set the famed Norton bomb sites, the acclaimed technology responsible for the U.S. and Allies' accurate, effective air assaults, said to have shortened WWII. Amy attended Philadelphia's Jefferson Medical College Nurses Training Program until December 1945, when she received the devastating news that her fiancé, Norman Coolbaugh of Monroeton, was killed. At that time she returned to Monroeton. Amy graduated from Delkadere Beauty School in Elmira, N.Y., operating the Anita Beauty Shoppe, until the early 1970s. Amy enjoyed every minute with her customers and coworkers, Alice and Alice: Alice May Fox Cook and Alice Oliver. Amy married W.R. O'Rourke, now deceased, having children: John (deceased in 1977), Amy and Patricia. She later married Marion F. Barnes, (also deceased). Ever active in Pennsylvania Republican Women, along with Peg Madigan, Amy attended statewide conferences and rallies, served as local secretary, and played piano at events. Their dedication inspired others to support. Amy was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Towanda Chapter No. 76. Amy Barnes' flair and verve were infectious. She was a fashion-forward kind of gal, with a Dorothy Draper style, who summed up her affinity for color, saying, "I love green no matter what color it is." She appreciated antiques, fine furnishings, unique and unusual collectibles and glassware, and enjoyed building a collection of her own. Daughters Amy and Patricia both graduated from Mansfield University where the professors referred to their mother as "Mama Gabor." This name has stuck to this day with friends and family alike. A favorite memory is Mama Gabor driving the Homecoming Queen candidate in her Cadillac convertible for the Mansfield bi-centennial parade celebration. Mama Gabor was a natural. Amy loved the history and people of Bradford County. She appreciated the beauty of the Endless Mountains, its flora and fauna, the birds and especially the beautiful stone walls and stone foundations. Mr. Vallilee, a local stone mason, was regarded as an artisan in her book. Amy could often be seen working in the yard, enjoying the sun (and rain). She enjoyed Hurr's, Ames, the P&A, and "The Burger" for food and fun conversation with friends who also gathered at these popular meeting places. Amy is survived by her sister, Vida (Art) Spengler and brother, Fred Place, both of Towanda; daughters, Amy O'Rourke (Aspen, Colo.) and Patricia Seibert (Wellsboro, Pa.); grandson, Todd Seibert (Little Marsh, Pa.); and nephews, nieces and cousins, who are all special and revered. Brothers, Dean and Gordon (Elmira) and sisters, Ruth and Julia (Monroeton), preceded Amy in death. The family will be providing the flowers for Amy's service, on Aug. 8 at the Presbyterian Church, Court Street, Towanda. JACK H. PORTER, age 83 of Zephyrhills, FL passed October 14, 2015 following a brief illness. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Porter; his mother, Cleo Miller Porter and one sister, Ruth Porter Sayles. He was survived by one brother, Thomas Porter; four sisters, Betty Porter, Grace Sproul, Dorothy Merchant and Nancy Samsel; and many nephews and nieces. Jack retired from Westinghouse. He owned and operated Twin Tier Gunshop which was later renamed Twin Tier Sports Center. His brother, Thomas ran one of his shops. Jack was a silent partner of Redding Hunter with Richard Beebe in Cortland, NY. He lived in Elmira, NY for many years before moving to Florida. Jack loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed travel and loved to laugh. His family and friends meant the world to him. He was a good man who kept his eyes on God. CLAUDE S. PROOF, 77, of Pomona, CA died at his home July 28, 1987. He was born Sept. 23, 1909 at Homets Ferry, the son of Lou Ennis and Stephen Proof. He lived his entire life in the Wyalusing area until his retirement in 1971 when he moved to Pomona, CA. He worked for PennDOT for a member of years and for Dairylea at the Wyalusing Creamery for 21 years. He was a member of the Grove Street Bible Church, Pomona, CA. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Decker Proof and two sons: Charles Proof of Cucumonga, CA and George Proof of Pomona, CA. Also surviving are three granddaughters: one grandson; one great-grandson all of California; a sister, Olive Bost of Port Charlotte, FL; three brothers, Wislon Proof of Homets Ferry, Roland Proof of Wyalusing and Francis Proof of Wyalusing RD. TERRY D. PROOF, 31, of 308 Lea St., Munhall (Allegheny County), PA died unexpectedly Friday afternoon (1988) near Lake Tocojo in Spring Hill in Tuscarora Twp., Bradford County. He was born April 13, 1957 in Sayre, PA, son of Donald and Helen Owen Proof. He was employed as a sheet metal foreman with the McQuillan Brothers Steel Co. in Pittsburgh, PA. He has been a resident of the Pittsburgh area for the last 10 ½ years. WALTER B. ‘RHODIE’ RHODES, 86, of Dimock Twp., PA passed away, Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Endless Mountains Health Systems, Montrose, PA. Born November 22, 1928 in Salem, VA, he was the son of the late Hayden & Rushie (Moses) Rhodes and predeceased by sister, Thelma Brown and brothers, John & Emory Rhodes.  Rhodie was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired after 32 years serving his country which included the Korean Conflict. He was then employed by the Montrose Hospital in Electrical Maintenance for many years until his full retirement.  Before and during his retirement, he was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Montrose Club. He remained an active golfer until the age of 85. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ida M. (Hall) Rhodes of Dimock Twp., PA, daughter, Jacquelyn Renee Rhodes of Dimock Twp., PA, son & daughter-in-law, Michael & Barbara Rhodes of Nelson, New Zealand, grandsons, Jed & Jamie Pottage & Matthew Rhodes, great grandchildren, Sam & Felix Pottage, & Cadence Rhodes. Bessie enjoyed needle work, crossword puzzles, working in her flower beds, and above all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was born on April 24, 1932 in LeRaysville, Pa. to the late Fred and Elsie (Reynolds) Ross. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Allan D. Arnold, New Milford, Pa. Donna is also survived by her three children and their spouses, Bonnie and Ron Blankenship, Woodbridge, Va., Lisa and Larry Tyluski, Sun City, Calif., Andrew and Lorena Arnold, Mexico; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Elwin, Eugene and Ward Ross, and two sisters, Arlene Kissel and Zadie Ross. Donna was born as a Seventh Day Adventist and died in her faith. She had an impressive family background as her father's side goes back to the Mayflower. She had long-standing family ties to Susquehanna County in Middletown Township. SANDS –MRS. EDNA S. COMSTOCK, 65 of Black Walnut, (Laceyville RD 1) passed away in her home Tuesday morning Aug. 4, 1987 after a long illness. She was born in Tunkhannock April 13, 1922, the daughter of the late Floyd and Pearl Wildrick Sands. She was a homemaker for her family and a member of the People Without Partners Club of Wyoming County. In her spare time she enjoyed flower gardening, dancing and also fishing. She is survived by two sons: Dale Van Volkinburg of South Auburn and David Comstock at home; a daughter, Miss Joanne Van Volkinburg, also at home, three brothers: Forrest (John) Sands and Nile Sands, both of Winter Haven, FL and Dean Sands of Windgap, PA one sister, Mrs. Gloria Edwards of Elmira Heights, NY, four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands, Carl Van Volkinburg in 1961 and George Comstock in 1981 and by her daughter, Carole Marie Van Volkinburg in 1954. ROBERT J. SHARKEY of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the age of 78. Bob was born November 19, 1936 in Saranac Lake, NY to the late Edmund and Ruby Vincent Sharkey. Bob is predeceased by his first wife of 35 years, Phyllis C. Sharkey; daughter-in-law, Nancy H. Tice; and siblings, Isadore, Frannie, Angie and Bev. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 12 years, Ruth (Tice) Sharkey; children, Robert E. Sharkey, Ken J. Bell, Mike (Bev) Bell, Pat (Rick) Standing, Ronald J. Tice Jr., and Diana (Wayne) Tice; also, his fourth son, Wayne Golden; grandchildren, Matthew, Kimberly, Ricky, Jennifer, Kelley, Andrew, Sarah, and Greg; seven great-grandchildren; brother Vincent (Mel) Sharkey; and other extended family members. Bo-Bo will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Bob served his country honorably with the US Marine Corps from 1954-1958 and was retired from Olin Chemical in Rochester, NY. JOHN THOMAS SHAY, 70, of Rome, Pa., passed away peacefully at home, Thursday, August 13 with his wife and family by his side. Born February 27, 1945 in Sayre, Pa. to Evelyn Vaughn and Elwyn Shay. Tom was a graduate of Sayre High School, class of 1963. He also served in the United States Navy. Tom worked for the old I.R. Foundry, Masonite Trucking, Lawton Trucking, and retired from Penns Best Trucking. Tom very much enjoyed working on small engines in his garage and helping others. He loved hunting and fishing, watching Mark Martin race for NASCAR, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Most of all, Tom enjoyed spending time and having fun with his friends and family. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Evelyn (Vaughn) & Claude Simons along with his father Elwyn Shay. He is survived by his wife Carol Shay, his brothers Carl & Mary Shay, Jim & Kay Shay, Jerry & Jeanne Shay. His children Tommy & Renee Shay, Theresa & Bruce Chambers, Ronny Shay, Brandy & Brett Hilfiger. SHERMAN –GLADYS E. FASSETT, 77 of Forks Township, New Albany RD 2 died Friday morning May 22, 1987 at Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport. She was born March 22, 1910 in Overton Twp., (Bradford Co.), daughter of the late Clinton and Sadie Hausknecht Sherman. She was a lifetime resident of Overton area and until the Overton and Warburton Hill Methodist Cchurches closed, she had been a member. Her husband, the late George Fassett died Sept. 9, 1976. ANDREW P. SINGER OF Indian Hill (Laceyville RD 2) died suddenly June 16, 1987 at the Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. Born in Laceyville (Tuscarora Township) on Nov. 13, 1922, he was a son of the late Samuel and Sybil King Singer. He operated a dairy farm on Indian Hill most of his life and also drove a school bus for the Wyalusing School District for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, the former Doris DeRemer to whom he had been married 36 years, foster daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Charlie Lamphere of Laceyville; three brothers, Charles and Rexford (Jack) Singer of Laceyvilloe and Darrell Singer of Delhi, NY; two foster grandchildren, Charleen and Andrew Lamphere of Laceyville, several nieces and nephews. SNYDER –MELVA LEA SNYDER FREDERICK, 84, of 197 East St., Towanda, Pa., went home to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2015 from her home following declining health. Melva was born on Aug. 6, 1931 in Camden, N.J., the daughter of Maurice C. Snyder and Helene Ross Snyder. Melva was employed by Philco Ford in Lansdale, Pa. and by B&G Manufacturing in Hatfield, Pa. for a number of years. She attended the Independent Baptist Church in Towanda and was always willing to share her love for the Lord and minister to others by opening her home for meals, Bible study prayer meetings and fellowship. She possessed tremendous love for her children and maintained her goal in life to raise them to become soldiers for Christ. Melva enjoyed baking and playing the violin.Surviving are her husband of over 30 years, Leonard P. Frederick; children, Bonnie Lea Kerr and husband Brian of Hatfield, Pa., Linda D. Bieber and husband Dale of Pennsburg, Pa., Randy K. Rosenberger and wife Constance of Rome, David L. SPAETH –PATRICIA ANN ‘PAT’ MILLER SPAETH HENNIGAN, born Oct. 20, 1932, went home with her Lord on Aug. 2, 2015 following a lengthy illness. Pat was 82 years old. Pat is the daughter of Harry Worster Spaeth and Myrtle E. Miller Spaeth, who predeceased her in 1966 and 1971 respectively. Pat married her high school sweetheart, Jay E. Hennigan, in 1950 and together through that sacred union they had four children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jay and Pat were dedicated to their family, were members of the United Methodist Church, enjoyed outdoor activities as well as traveling to visit family and friends. Pat also enjoyed all types of crafting, which was no minor feat for her as she suffered greatly with rheumatoid arthritis as a young adult.In addition to her parents Pat was predeceased by two brothers and their wives, Carl and Pam Spaeth, and Clarence and Arlene Spaeth both from Williamsport, Pa.; her son, David and his wife, Jamie of Tulsa, Okla.; her sister-in-law, Pat Miller; her brother-in-law, Robert Padgham; and her husband, Jay. STURDEVANT –MARION S. CARTER, 91, of the Village Square Apartments, Painted Post, NY passed away Tuesday afternoon Apr. 12, 1988 at the Medical Center of Princeton, Princeton, NJ. She was born In Silvara Oct. 17, 1896, daughter of the later Harry Luther and Emma Bennett Sturdevant. She was the widow of Carl A. Carter, a veteran of World War I who died in 1959. Mrs. Carter spent her younger years in Silvara where she attended the local school and later attended Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, PA. She move to Corning, NY following the death of her husband. She was a member of the Silvara United Methodist Church and also active in the United Methodist Church of Corning, NY during her years there. She was a member of the DAR, Mach-wi-hi-lusing Chapter of Wyalusing. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Arthur Marthin of Belle Mead, NJ, a son-in-law, Wayne Templer MD of Corning, NY; four grandchildren: Mrs. Keith (Linda) Templer Alexander of Fairport, NY, W. IRVIN F. ‘SARGE’ SWANK SR., age 87, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Elcor Health Services. He was born on Feb. 28, 1928 in Palmerton, Pa., the only child of Harry and Olive Swank. Irvin married Regina Sayman on Jan. 5, 1952 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was predeceased by his wife, Regina, son, Vernon, son-in-law, Dennis, granddaughter, Sarah, and brother-in-law, Arley. Irvin is survived by his children, Johanna (Dave) Kinney, Harry (Cathy) Swank, Roberta (Sue) Moore, Irvin II (Dawn) Swank and Gail Decker Burnett (Thomas); sister-in-law, Martha Sayman; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and ran his own print shop. He loved to watch westerns and was very knowledgeable when it came to guns. TOWER –ANNE TOWER MACINTYRE, 96, of Port Charlotte, and formerly of Towanda, Pa., passed away June 29, in her sleep. She was born to Eleanor Phippen and Daniel Tower in Brooklyn, N.Y., but grew up in Beverly, Mass. She graduated from Framingham State Teachers College and married her boyfriend of nine years, Bill (Angus) MacIntyre, whom she met at dance school. Anne and Bill were avid sailors and were active in several Charlotte Harbor boat clubs racing weekly. She was very artistic and many enjoyed her seascape paintings. Anne is survived by her brother, Daniel Tower Jr.; four children and their spouses, Marilyn Wolf (Chris), Nancy Johnson (Eric), Bill MacIntyre III (RaeAnn) and Jeanne Hand (Bob); nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. TURNER –TONI JO TURNER WALTERS, age 53, of Wyalusing, Pa., passed away on Monday, Aug. 10, 2015. Toni was born on April 26, 1962, a daughter of Sharon Allen Turner of Quicks Bend and the late Jackie Merle Turner. She graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the class of 1980.She lived in Mississippi for 19 years where she raised her two sons and was a housewife. She recently moved back to the area in 2009. While living in the area she worked for Steward Industrial Maintenance in Mehoopany, Pa., and then for Connie's Supermarket and most recently for Smith's Personal Care Home. Toni was an avid gardener and enjoyed flowers and she was an exceptional painter and loved painting ceramics. She enjoyed spending time with her family and she will be missed by all who knew her. JOHN YUKON VISCHANSKY, 91, of Pittston, Pa., died Saturday, June 20, 2015, surrounded by his family. John was a loving father and treasured each and every one of his grandchildren. John was a son of the late Nicholas Vischansky and Anna (Diskavitz) Vischansky. He could always be found at his hunting cabin in Towanda. If he was not there he would be on an adventurous hunting trip somewhere around the world. He was proud member of the U.S. Army where he served during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4909 of Dupont, Dupont Polish Club & V.F.W. Post 1568 of Towanda. Surviving is his son William and his wife Brenda Vischansky of Pittston; daughter Carol and husband Kevin Clark of Pittston; Marian and husband James Lenchak of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; grandsons Matthew Kavinski and Jeffrey Lotzi; granddaughters Ashley Vischansky, Leslie Lenchak, Michelle Lenchak, Jaime Testaiuti; great-grandchidren Arianna Testaiuti and Massimo Testaiuti. MICHAEL ALEXANDER (ALEX) VOLPE died unexpectedly on June 7, 2015. He was the son of Julie Rae Volpe and Mark E. DeLill. Alex was a senior expected to graduate from Waverly High School. He was accepted and enrolled at Morrisville State College in the Renewable Energy Program, and had accepted the invitation to be a member of the Morrisville Mustang Football "family." Alex was a gregarious, friendly and fun-loving young man whose entrance into a room rarely went unnoticed. He had tremendous love for his family and was fiercely loyal to his friends, teammates and loved ones. Alex loved all athletics and participated in basketball, baseball, and football - even coaching the Powder Puff Squad. Football was his passion, and Jason Miller, his coach, played an important role in Alex's life as a teacher, mentor and role model. Alex will be remembered as a compassionate, fun-loving, happy young man and a "stand-up guy." He was a loving son, brother, cousin, grandson, great-grandson, nephew and friend. ARCHIE W. VROMAN - On the morning of Wednesday, May 28th, 2015, Archie W. Vroman of Ralston passed away quietly at The Gatehouse in Williamsport. He was 85 years of age. Born in McIntyre Twp., Lycoming Co. on October 26th, 1929, he was the son of John W. and Ida B. (Woodward) Vroman. Archie was a member of the last graduating class of the former Ralston High School, where he was honored as valedictorian. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the waning days of WW II, and continued to serve our country through the Korean War as well. In civilian life Archie worked at various jobs, but is best remembered as being an independent owner/operator truck driver. He was married to the former Lavonne Russell, and together they raised six sons and two daughters. Archie was never one for idleness and was always happiest when working, especially tinkering with automotive engines. He was the sort of man who would go out of his way to help someone in need, be it a motorist stuck by the road, or an entire community, such as the victims of the 1972 flood. Most importantly he was a devoted husband and family man. Surviving is his wife, Lavonne, at home, sons James Vroman of TN, Archie (& Cindy) Vroman of Canton, Terry Vroman of Trout Run, Douglas Vroman of Ralston, Wayne Vroman of Ark., Michael (& Jeanette) Vroman of MI, daughters: Cheryl Staton of Williamsport and Hazel (& Tom) Wilger of IL, 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. VROMAN –BETTY L. ARTLEY, 84, of Pennsdale, died Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Born February 11, 1931, in Montoursville, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Marguerite (Edkin) Vroman. She married Austin M. Artley on April 25, 1953, and together they celebrated 62 years of marriage. Betty was a former member of Clarkstown United Methodist Church and served as their financial secretary for six years. She also belonged to Clarkstown United Methodist Women and served as secretary for 15 years. Betty was currently a member of Pennsdale Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and above all spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by three sons, Steven E. (Denise) Artley, Dennis A. (Sandra) Artley, Keith W. (Reyne) Artley all of Pennsdale; and six grandchildren, Zachery E. Artley, Aaron G. Artley, John A. Artley, Alicia L. (Sam) Shaffer, Evan J. Artley, and Alivia M. Artley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Annabelle Fogel and Beverly Wertman; and a brother, Robert Vroman. DEAN ALBERT WALRATH was born to the late Albert and Grace Walrath on April 26, 1949 in Sayre, Pa. He graduated from S.R.U. High school in 1967 and entered the Air Force. He returned home in 1969 and established a small dairy farm named Maple Hill Farm until 1985. He then worked for Van Duzen machinery in Wilawana while attending classes at Penn College to become a Methodist pastor. He was a pastor for 19 years serving several charges including Canton, Pa. He retired due to poor health. He is survived by his brother, David Walrath of Milan, Pa.; brother-in-law, Richard Loomis of Dunnesville, Va.; a brother, John McDermott from Prescott Valley, Ariz.; nephews, Rick (Dolly) Loomis of Dunnesville, Va., Scott (Lydia) Walrath of Milan, Pa.; nieces, Sue (Tony) Catino of Manassas. LAWRENCE E. WARD - On the morning of Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, Lawrence E. Ward of Towanda passed away quietly at the Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Center. He was 70 years of age. Born Aug. 11, 1945 in Fayette, N.Y., he was the son of George and Agnes Ward. Larry, as he was known to all, was one of God's special people who, despite his limitations, lived a full life with the love and guidance of family, friends and Futures Community Support Services. He enjoyed horses, bingo, bowling and participating in the Special Olympics. Larry enjoyed a good, strong cup of coffee and dining at his two favorite eating establishments, McDonald's and Vinnie's Pizza in Troy. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed dishing out the occasional good-natured "ribbings" whenever the situation arose. He was a kind, gentle soul who always was ready to help. Larry is survived by his sisters, Ruth McBride of Peoria, Ariz., Beverly Graves of Montrose, Pa. and Joyce Jessoe of Rancho Palo Verde, Calif.; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. H. TRAVIS ‘BUCKY’ WARDEN 67 years old of Monterey, NY lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Community Living Center at the Bath VA Center. Ward graduated from Bradford Central School, was a Veteran of the US Army and retired from the Town of Orange Highway Department. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and NASCAR fan. DANNY HUSTED WATKINS, 75, of Covington, passed away at his home, Monday May 4, 2015. He was born in Blossburg February 23, 1940, his parents are the late Frederick and Mary Husted Watkins. He graduated from North Penn High School in 1958. On September 27, 1958 Danny married the former Sylvia VanDyke. He retired from the railroad as an engineer. Danny was a lifelong avid horseman and belonged to numerous horse clubs. As a basketball player, he was inducted into the Tioga County Sports Hall of Fame. He was a dedicated fan of children and grandchildren athletics. WATKINS –WANDA L. (WATKINS) YANCHUK, 85, of Troy, Pa. passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Bradford County Manor surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Bernard A. "Bernie" Yanchuk. The couple married April 30, 1952 and had almost 63 happy years together. Wanda was born on July 29, 1929 in Columbia Cross Roads, Pa., daughter of the late Edgar and Anna (Trask) Watkins. She was a Troy High School graduate, class of 1947. After high school, Wanda went to work for the Troy Area School District as secretary for Prof. W.R. Croman, namesake to our local elementary school. Wanda and Bernie spent two years in Georgia while he was serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. She was Christian by faith. After returning home to Troy, Wanda enjoyed flowers and gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her family. Wanda is survived by her husband, Bernard; her sons, Ronald (Carolyn) Yanchuk of Troy with son Bradley (Ashley) and family, Michael (Barbara) Yanchuk of Troy and children Aaron and Megan, Daniel (Jill) of Gillett with daughters Shawna and family, Laura (Jim), Stacey (Mark) and family; her brother, William (Ann) Watkins of Columbia Cross Roads; her sisters, Muriel (Robert) Shaylor of Troy and Jean (Maurice) Fuller of Williamsport; along with several nieces and nephews. WEAVER –DORIS M. KINSLEY, age 89, of Laporte, Pa., passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Highlands Care Center in Laporte with her family at her side. Doris was born June 8, 1926 in Cherry Township, a daughter of the late Milton J. and Edna Kneller Weaver. She graduated from the Cherry Township High School a member of the class of 1944. She married Ford Kinsley of Cherry Township on May 11, 1951 and they operated the family farm at Kinsley's Corners. They were married almost 34 years, until his passing on Feb. 18, 1985. She also worked for a time at the Weldon Mfg. the Pajama Factory in Lopez, Pa. During the time Ford was working as a carpenter, Doris was actively involved in the hay making and caring for the cattle. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and other crafts. She also liked to take bus trips with friends and had the opportunity to go on a cruise. She was a dedicated member of the Zion Chapel, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and served on the joint council and board of trustees. She was a member of the Dorcas Women's Group where she served as a long-time president. For many years, she was a fixture at the annual turkey dinner and the Lenten soup suppers. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Charles Shultz of Laporte, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law, Sgt. Major U.S.M.C., Ret. Ford and Tessie Kinsley of Harlingen, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Milton Jr. and Marian Weaver of Greencastle, Pa.; and sister, Dorothy Dieffenbach, of Dushore, Pa. She had six grandchildren, Erin Shultz and Lauren (Jeremy) Edkin of Laporte, Pa. and Floyd, Jerry, and Scott Kinsley and Samantha (Peter) Witt all of Las Vegas, Nev. She had six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Logan Edkin and Asiana, Vincent, Mariah and Isabella Witt. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and loyal friend, Cindy Schumacher. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased in death by her youngest son, Ronald J. Kinsley on April 10, 1988, and brothers, Ernie Huffmaster in 1991 and Donald Weaver in 1934. IVAN U. WEAVER, 79, of Standing Stone Township, Pa., died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Ivan was born at home in Towanda, Pa. on Oct. 22, 1935, the son of Ulysses and Carrie Mayo Weaver. He attended Towanda High School and in early years went to work on the family farm. Ivan served in the U.S. Army from April 8, 1958 to April 7, 1960. On April 20, 1957 he married the former Clara Ann Sherman in Wysox, Pa. The couple met while ice skating on Gorman's Pond in Towanda. Ivan owned and operated the former ARCO gas station in Wysox for a number of years and later delivered propane gas for PARGAS in Wysox. He was employed by States Aggregates in Wysox for 30 years until his retirement in 1999. Ivan enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, riding his four-wheeler, working on cars, construction projects, and built two homes over the years in the Wysox area from the ground up. He possessed the talent and ability to fix almost anything and loved passing on his knowledge to his sons-in-law and grandchildren. Ivan had a witty sense of humor and great love for his family. Surviving are his daughters, Cynthia Kazmierski and husband Daniel, Carrie Fitch and husband Allen; grandchildren, Kelcey and Ty Blokzyl, Carter and Bradley Gosik, Paxton, Mallory, Katerina, Nolan, Emsley, Dmitry and Jonah Fitch; sister, Marian Heaps; sister-in-law, Susan Weaver; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Clara on March 27, 2014; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Earl Carter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Marjorie Weaver, Harold "Bud" and Jean Weaver; brother, Donald Weaver; and brother-in-law, Charles Heaps. WILCOX –KAREN L. OSBORNE of Elmira died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on July 15, 2015. WILKINSON –GERALDINE A. BOYER, 66, of Ralston, PA passed away Friday Aug. 25, 1989 unexpectedly at home. Mrs. Boyer was born Aug. 20, 1923 at Ralston, Lycoming County, PA, a daughter of Charles and Sadie Atwater Wilkinson. She was a member of the Ralston United Methodist Church. Mrs. Boyer was a former cook at the Wheel Inn, Inc., Ralston. Her survivors include her husband, Owen J. Boyer. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on May 10, 1989. CHARLES H. WOODRUFF, 87, of Wellsburg, NY, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at ELCOR in Horseheads, NY. He was the loving husband of Darlene E. (Chase) Woodruff. The couple married March 20, 1982 and had 33 happy years together. Charles was born on June 20, 1928 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Edward and Hannah Woodruff. He was a 1947 graduate of Thomas Edison High School in Elmira Heights, NY and was a general assembly person at Capabilities, Inc. in Elmira. Charles was a former member of the Wellsburg United Methodist Church and was a current member of the Wellsburg Community Church. He enjoyed mowing grass and just being outdoors. Charles is survived by his wife, Darlene; his sons, Charles E. Woodruff, Jeff Woodruff, and Craig Woodruff; his daughter, Lois Woodruff; several grandchildren; his brother, John Woodruff; his sister, Ruth Mull; his niece, Melody Mull; and his nephew, Robert Kennedy; his father-in-law, Lawrence Chase; and his sister-in-law, Lorraine G. WRIGHT –BEVERLY LELJEDAL, 73, life-long resident of Powell, Pa., and the beloved wife of Edward, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning July 25, 2015, at home. Born Dec. 26, 1941 at the family home in Powell, Beverly Ann was one of two children of the late Thelbert and Hazel (Gleason) Wright. After attending the Powell School, she graduated from Towanda High School with the class of 1960. On July 1, 1961, she married Edward E. Leljedal at Overton's Catholic Church. They shared 54 wonderful years and raised six children. Bev was employed at the Ames store in Towanda for a time and later worked as a direct care worker at Martha Lloyd, Inc. in Troy. Bev enjoyed times shared with family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to read, was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and Jeff Gordon fan, and was also known to pamper her dogs, "Rebel Rouzer" and "Candy Sue." Surviving are her husband, Ed; children, Chauntey Leljedal (Joe Shepler), Terrance (Lisa) Leljedal, Dianna (Dan) Bolt, Wendy Smith (Kevin Ball), Gregory (Becky) Leljedal and Amanda (Rodney) Hartford; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; special aunt, Mary Gleason of Trumansburg, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Patricia Dibble of Terra Haute, Ind.; dear friends, Bill and Gloria Johnson of Powell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. BRIAN J. WRIGHT, 32, of 104 E. Lockhart St., Sayre, passed away at the Robert Packer Hospital Sunday, December 8, 2002. Born August 21, 1970 in Sayre the son of Ronald and Clara Wayman Wright.
Brian enjoyed outdoor activities especially hunting. He was a Sayre Small fry football coach " Bears Team" for five years. Brian was a Loving Husband and father. WILLIAM E. ‘BILLY’ WRIGHT, 55, of Sayre, PA passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born on June 2, 1960 in Waverly, NY the son of the late Violet Wright Carnrike and step-father William Carnrike. Billy loved playing his guitar and riding ATV's. He was a hard worker and was an employee of Ajax Foundry for more than 15 years. Billy is survived by his wife of 27 years Julianne at home, son and daughter-in-law Billy and Kayti Wright of Athens, PA, grandchildren Aaliyah, Austin, and Jesse, brother Richard Carnrike of Elmira, NY, nephew Jesse Carnrike, niece Jessica Carnrike, foster parents Butch and Marilyn Stamer and several foster brothers and sisters. WYGRALA –GERTRUDE L. FARR CASWELL, age 93, of Laceyville, PA went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock, PA. She was born on June 16, 1922 in Laceyville, PA the daughter of the late August and Pauline Wygrala. Gertrude graduated from the Laceyville High School with the class of 1940. She earned her Associates Degree from the Scranton Lackawanna Business College. During WWII she was employed by the Army Core of Engineers in various locations including Oak Ridge, TN. She and her husband, Warren H. Farr, owned and operated Farr Motors until his death. She was also employed by Proctor and Gamble for 12 years before retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Braintrim Baptist Church, a past President and Board Member of the Laceyville Library, and wrote the newsletter for the Proctor and Gamble retirees for many years. She enjoyed knitting, reading, and dabbling on her computer (especially her Kindle). She absolutely loved her family and thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with them. Gertrude is survived by her sons: Gary Farr and his wife Carol of Green Bay, WI and Dale Farr and his wife Cindy of Laceyville; grandchildren Jason Farr and his wife Kristin of Knoxville, TN, Braden Farr of Laceyville, PA, Michelle Meyer and her husband Jeff of Germantown, WI, and Melanie Farr and her fiancé Brian Denzien of Oak Creek, WI; great-grandchildren Bode, Nolan, Brennan, Jayden, Payton, Olivia, Colton, Barrett, and Samantha; nephews Dennis Wygrala and his wife Bea of Laceyville, PA and Gene Franklin and his wife Judy of Laceyville, PA; as well as great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Warren H. Farr (1965), husband Donald F. Caswell (1970), brother and sister-in-law Walter P. (1981) and Marion Wygrala (2014) and niece Sharon Wygrala (2007). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 12:00 noon from the Braintrim Baptist Church with Reverend Thomas Davis of the church and Reverend Richard Vieldhouse of Orwell Bible Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Lacey St. Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. YARRISON –DORIS Y. KNERR - Winter is finally over. The sky is blue, the birds are singing, and the daffodils are bright. On April 30, 2015, Doris Y. Knerr, age 99, surrounded by the new warmth of the sun and the love of her family, quietly passed away. Born in Williamsport, Pa., Doris was the youngest child of John and Alice Yarrison and lived her youth in the Williamsport-Jersey Shore area. After graduating from Lock Haven State Teachers College, she came to Canton as a substitute elementary school teacher in 1939. She met Frederic E. Knerr on a blind date and they were married in 1941. She spent the rest of her life living in Canton. Doris took time off from teaching to raise her family and then returned to the elementary school. Many remember her as their fourth or fifth grade teacher. Her family was her greatest joy and she followed and participated in many of their events including: weddings, christenings, graduations, travel, and even camping on the ground, canoeing, and white-water rafting. She was a Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, and participated in many church and civic activities. Seldom without a book in hand, she also sewed, knitted, crocheted, painted, and tended her many plants. She traveled to Europe several times with her nephew, Charles and his wife, Sondra. For many years she played cards with friends, quilted at the Clothing Center, and knitted sweaters for the Guideposts sweater project. Doris and Freddie, who loved to drive, covered many miles of road in his shining cars. They could often be found dancing the light fantastic at the Wheel Club on Saturday nights. It was a good life. She always wanted to stay in her own home and with the help of family and friends, the watchful eyes and caring of her neighbors, and during the past couple years, helpers Judy Dole and Joyce and Roger Castle, she was able to do this. Never one to sit around, Doris remained busy until a fall curtailed her activities during the past few months. These months were spent at the Bradford County Manor where she amused the staff with her wry remarks. The kindness and support of the staff is appreciated. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Freddie in 1980; and her parents and six older brothers and sisters, Clyde, Donald, Charlie, Mary, Edna and Freda. She is survived by her three children, Carol (and Wayne) of Newtown, Conn., Fritz of Strasburg, Pa. and Dan (and Kathy) of Rochester, N.Y. There are seven grandchildren, Bill, Jim, Charlie, Jessie, Sarah, Jason and Ryan; and seven great-grandchildren, Morgan, Taylor, Merry, Max, Mitch, Grace, and Felix; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. As were her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Instead, take a moment from your day and remember Doris, tell someone you love them, and give away a hug and a smile. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, consider a contribution in her memory to the Canton Ecumenical Parish, 103 N. ?. –FLORENCE L. BURKHART, 83, of 356 York St., NE, Aiken, SC wife of Arthur H. Burkhart, formerly of Towanda died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 11, 1988 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. She was born May 14, 1905 in Mohawk, NY. Mr. and Mrs. Burkhart were residents of Towanda for three years when Mr. Burkhart served as plant manager of E.E. DuPont in Towanda. She is survived by her husband, Arthur; a daughter, Mrs. George (Ehrlen) B. Wilt of Towanda; a son, Dan G. Burkhart of Roseburg, Ore.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date in South Carolina. Arrangements are under the direction of Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home in Towanda. –Towanda Daily Review

?. –MRS. JOSEPHINE CHRZANOWSKI, 86, of Mildred died Thursday (Jan. 1987) at the home of her daughter, Helen with whom she had resided for the last 20 years. Mrs. Chrzanowski was born June 15, 1900 in Poland and came to Sullivan County around 1936. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Mildred. Surviving are three sons: John of Sacramento, CA, Edward of Mildred and Bernard of Appalachin, NY; five daughters: Mrs. Julius (Helen) Ottaviani of Mildred, Mrs. Mickey (Eleanor) Grandinetti of Murraytown, Mrs. Theresa Vickers of Maple Shade, NJ, Mrs. (Wanda) Andrewlavage of Terrytown and Mrs. John (Yvonne) Evangelisti of Mildred; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred with Rev. Paul M. Baier officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery.
