ACLA Samantha J. Acla

Age 25 of Elmira, NY died on Sunday September 22, 2013 at The Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Samantha was born February 27, 1988 in Sayre, PA the daughter of Rebecca L. Wilson and Kenneth E. Acla. She loved reading and drawing. Samantha was a loving and devoted mother dedicating her life to her children. She was predeceased by her grandparents James and Laura Carpenter, Thomas W. Wilson, and Ulysses Acla. Samantha is survived by her children: Lyndell, Lejariez "Scoop", Jarel "Charlie", and Cataleya; The Love of Her Life and Fiance: Jarel Sorey; mother Rebecca L. Wilson of Elmira, NY; father and step mother: Kenneth E. & Tina Acla of Waverly, NY; stepfather: James Harvard Jr. of Elmira, NY; sisters and brothers: Jericka McDonald, Kordel Harvard, Damien Acla, and Sabrina Acla; maternal grandparents: Linda & Wesley Rockwell of Elmira, NY; paternal grandmother: Margaret Acla of Sayre, PA; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of caring friends. AMES Alfred (Rudy) Ames Jr.

of Cameron, NY died at the age of 70 on September 12, 2013 at the Bath Veteran's Administration. Born on April 10, 1943 in Wellsboro, PA he was the son of the late Alfred Ames, Sr. and Marjorie Bohart-Ames. Rudy is survived by his five children: Robert Ames of Addison, NY, Christopher Ames (Karen) of Addison, NY, Charis Duger (Chip) of Baldwinsville, NY, Laura Langling of Plessis, NY, Jody Ames of Addison, NY; two sisters, Joan (Rodney) Easton, Jean (Tom) Witherow; 13 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Rudy retired in 2003 after 25 years at Phillips Lighting of Bath, NY. He was an Aircraft Mechanic, Specialist IV, in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964. He was an avid baseball and basketball fan and was a beloved coach of baseball, basketball and softball. He was an active outdoorsman enjoying both hunting and fishing. He was a life time member of the Cameron Volunteer Fire Department. Rudy's greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and he loved following them through their sports and endeavors. Respecting their father's wishes there will be no funeral services held, however the children would like to have a celebration of their father's life on September 21, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Pinnacle Golf Club, Addison, NY. AUSTIN Joyce (Austin) Kinslow

Age 86, Born in Gillette, PA. Previous resident of Elmira and Poughkeepsie, NY and Sacramento, CA died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Barton's Adult Home, Elmira, NY. Predeceased by mother, Bessie Mae (Blodgett) Austin & father, Augustus Austin; brothers: Paul, Leo, Merle, Gerald, Richard and Charles Austin & sisters: Cora Mae (Owens), Dorothy (Leonardi). Survived by daughters; Linda Cozad, Elmira, NY; Vicki Preston, Corning, NY and Jacquelyn Jones, Poughkeepsie, NY and son, John Kiser of Sacramento, CA; brothers Lynnwood, Milton (Stub), Carroll Austin and sisters Marilyn, Marcia, Marie, Barbara and Mary. Also sharing in our loss of this extraordinary Mother are her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and her ever loyal companion - George! Everyone whose life she touched will smile in remembering her quick wit, feisty spirit and unique sense of humor. She loved gardening, garage sales, family gatherings with her children, family & friends, was member of Joel Osteen Ministries, an Avon representative for 30 years and a member of the F-Stop Photographer's Club. Heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Barton's Adult Home that provided Mom with excellent care, a home away from home environment that filled her last days with abundant happiness and peace. Special thanks to Care-First/Hospice for their ever present support, care and comfort in making the quality of Mom's life and final days comfortable and peaceful. As requested by Joyce, there will be no immediate services. A memorial service will be held at a future date. BAILEY William "Bill" Bailey

70, of Towanda, died on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013. at Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock. Bill was born on July 10, 1943, the son of the late Lincoln and Nellie Finnerty Bailey. Bill was employed by several area farms and also worked for Strope's Wrecking Yard in Towanda. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing. He is survived by his daughter, Heather Bailey of London; two grandchildren; siblings, Ruth Herbert of Burlington, Alice Dudley of North Carolina, Howard Bailey of Towanda, Mary Luckman and her husband Frank Smith of Towanda, and Sherry Werkheiser of New York; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bill is preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings. Abiding by Bill's request, a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private. BEAL Margaret E. Schuepfer

Formerly of Willow Grove Pa and Little River, SC died on Tuesday September 17, 2013 suddenly at Sherwood Retirement & Personal Care, Canton, Pa at the age of 84. Born January 9, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pa Marge was the daughter of Henry and Margaret Jeffers Beal. She married Charles Schuepfer January 21, 1950. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2010. Marge was a full time wife & mother. Surviving is her loving family, Children; Margaret "Marge" (Richard) Fulmer, Gillett, PA; Susan Adams (Walt Bradley) Quakertown, PA; Karen Angelichio, Graham, NC; Five Grandchildren; Richard (Billie) Fulmer, Matthew (Robyn) Adams, Janice (Jan) Szablicki, Samantha (Richard) Maschi, Lena (Richard) Miller; Great Grandchildren; Ashley & Ryan Fulmer, Kara & Jason Maschi, & Kathryn Szablicki. Marge had a brother, Henry (Betty) Beal of Willow Grove, Pa; There are several nieces and nephews. A joint memorial service and burial will take place for Marge & Charlie at Whitemarsh Memorial Gardens, Horsham, PA on November 16, 2013. BIGELOW Edward Bigelow

53, of Ralston was instantly killed when the car he was driving was struck by a train at Bridge No. 2, north of Ralston.  Those who saw the accident say he did not seem to see the approaching train.  His dog, which was riding with him, was so badly injured it had to be killed.   The Canton Sentinel 1933  

 

BIRD Michael J.

Age 53 of Lowman, NY. He was born September 9, 1960 in Elmira, son of the late Chester and Gerry (Naylor) Bird and died Saturday, September 14, 2013 unexpectedly. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sheila (Moon); children Josh of Brandon, MS, Michelle of Portland, OR and Michael II of Binghamton, NY; grandchildren Natalie and Riley; brother Chester of Wilmington, NC; sisters Carol (Paul) Dzikowski of Rock Hill, SC and Mona Shaw of Elmira Heights along with several nieces and nephews. Mike was employed with CMP in Binghamton, NY. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Wednesday, September 18th from 5 to 8 pm. BOOTH Dorothy M. Scheer

80, of Hope, N.J., died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, Hackettstown, N.J .Dorothy was born in Dover, N.J., and was a resident of Forest Manor Healthcare Center in Hope, N.J. She previously resided in Ledgewood, N.J. and Rome, Pa. She worked as a secretary and retired in the early 1990s.Dorthy is survived by two sons, David and his wife Lucille of Long Valley, and Doug and his wife Lorraine of Rockaway; three grandchildren, Caitlin, Courtney and Brandon; her sister, Roberta Baker of Randolph. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford; a son, Lee; a twin sister, Margaret; and a brother, Everett Booth. Memorial visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph, NJ 07869. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the funeral home. Interment of Dorothy and her late husband Clifford will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Randolph, N.J. BRAINARD Sandra Brainard Culham

of Buffalo, NY formerly of Horseheads, NY, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the age of 71. Sandra was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Brainard, Jr of Waterville, NY. She is survived by her three children, Christina Bush of Rochester, NY, James (JoAnn) Bush of Hendersonville, NC, and Stacy Bush of Buffalo, NY; four grandchildren, Samantha Levasseur, Alexandria Frantz-Bush, Erinn Frantz-Bush, and Daniel Royal. Her sister Debbi (Dan) Treiber of Charlotte, NC, and very dear cousin, Kay Dannenberg of Schenectady, NY. Sandra was a LPN for over 30 years working primarily with the elderly. She had a great sense of humor and loved helping other people. BREW Joseph E.

Age 66, of Newark, NY and formerly Watkins Glen, died unexpectedly on September 11, 2013. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., on Tuesday (Sept. 17), from 5pm to 7pm with the funeral service immediately following at 7pm; Rev. Beverly Karr-Lyon will officiate; burial and committal service will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Reading Center, NY on Wednesday (Sept. 18) at 11am. He was predeceased by his father, William "Bubby" Brew. He is survived by his mother, Janice Brew and dear friend, Ken DePew of Watkins Glen; special aunts, Pat (Bill) Macnamara of Watkins Glen, and Lyndall Homet of Towanda, PA; uncle, Kenneth (Debbie) Jackson of Victor; brother, Jon Horton and sister, Pam Horton and special cousin, Janice Learn; also numerous other very dear cousins. Joseph graduated from Watkins Glen Central School class of 1966 and later the Culinary Institute of America. Joseph worked more than 25 years as a laboratory technician for Mobil Chemical Company Plastics Division in Macedon, NY. BURKLE Esther C. Watkins

formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 12, in Wellsboro, where she resided the past 6 years close to family.  Born Jan. 12, 1918 to the late Harry and Julia Kramer Burkle, she was predeceased by husband Elmer, son David, brother Paul Burkle, sisters Mary Eanes and Dorothy Mulcahy.   She is survived by her children Lois (Mike) Harkenrider, James (Jane) Watkins, and Kate (Ed) Sholonski; four grandsons, Craig (Nicole), David, and Douglas Borland, Alan (Rachael) Sholonski; one great grandson, Rheese Borland; numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren.  She was an avid reader and poet. Other pastimes included keeping in touch via Facebook, Wii bowling, and painting. She will be missed at family gatherings over which she presided as our matriarch. Her youthful attitude and quick wit carried her through life, and was an inspiration to all that knew her. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Benedicts Church, Austin Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. CAMPBELL Donald Wayne Campbell

Age 86 of East Smithfield PA, died on Wednesday September 11, 2013 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Survived by daughter, Debra Campbell Horton; son, Shawn Campbell; grandchildren, Richard, Sarah, and Jenna Seeley, Denise Werner, Amy Mortimer, Diane Campbell, Cameron and Caidon Campbell; six great grandchildren. Also survived by sisters and brothers, Anne, Emma Jean, Bill and John. He is predeceased by parents, George and Emma Campbell, son Michael Campbell, brothers Dick and Kent Campbell. CHANDLER Faye M. Chandler (Ross)

66, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Haven Skilled Rehabilitation and Nursing in Lock Haven, Pa.  On April 19, 1947, in Bradford County, Faye was born to Leland and Daisy Morley Chandler.  She graduated from Northeast Bradford School District in Rome.  Faye worked as a bank teller at the Northern Central Bank in Athens. She was an active member at Athens Presbyterian Church, sang in the church choir and was also a member of the Valley Chorus. She was a volunteer at Robert Packer Hospital as well as at the Salvation Army.   Surviving are two children, Michael Ross and Deb (Ross) Campbell; a brother, Lee Chandler; and two grandchildren, Mason and Skylar Campbell. Faye’s brother, Larry Chandler, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at Athens Presbyterian Church, 622 S. Main St., Athens, on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at 4 p.m. with Pastor Nelson Kopatz officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. DAGG Lillie N. "Nubby" Mealy

Age 76 of Big Flats, NY died on Tuesday September 17, 2013 at The Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Nubby was born April 12, 1937 in Havre De Grace, Maryland the daughter of the late Everett and Esther DuBree Dagg. She was also pre-deceased by her infant daughter Kathy Mealy and by her brother William Dagg. Mrs. Mealy was a Nurse's Aide and retired as a Physical Therapist's Aide from Elcor Nursing Home in Horseheads, NY. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Big Flats, NY. Nubby loved to sew and cook and enjoyed crafts. She is survived by her son Richard A. Mealy of Corning, NY; daughters: Donna Stevens of Big Flats, NY and Betty Porter of Bath, NY; grandchildren: Richard Stevens, Tyler Stevens, Hannah Mealy, and Jacob Mealy; sisters and brothers-in-law: Sylvia (Bob) Cullum, Emily (Chet) Majewski, and Wilma Hadley all of New Jersey; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. DEERING Ellen Deering Berg

Elmira: Age 60, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 15, 2013. Ellen was born July 10, 1953 in Washington, D.C., a daughter of Mary Lee Deering, South Riding, VA and the late Harold J. Deering. She is also predeceased by her former husband David Berg and brother Brien Deering. In addition to her mother, Ellen is survived by her daughter Kathleen "Katie" Berg, Elmira; brother John Deering, The Plains VA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lee and Kevin Kenoyer, California, Virginia and Brian Cooper, Virginia Beach VA, Mary Margaret Sutherland, Chesapeake VA; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Ellen grew up in Middlegurg VA. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg VA. Ellen later moved to Elmira where she and David were married. Her primary focus was on raising her daughter Katie and keeping a close relationship with David's family who were also very involved with Katie's upbringing. Included are Katie's grandmother Pat Blackwell, uncle and aunt Dan and Carole Berg all of Elmira. Ellen worked for many years in the health services field, most recently at American Customer Care, Elmira. Following her wishes there will be no local services. DEON Ella M. JORDAN

64, of Genesee, PA, died Monday, September 23, 2013 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, NY. Born June 8, 1949, in Potsdam, NY, she was the daughter of Barbara Deon. On December 5, 1971, in Chester, NY, she married Raymond M. Jordan, who survives. She was mother to many foster children and served as a girl scout leader. Surviving besides her husband, Raymond, are: three children, Rob (Heather) Jordan of Wellsville, NY, Russell (Lynette) Jordan of Genesee, and Paula Jordan of Gettysburg, PA; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Terry (Dennis) Neuner of Spring Hill, FL. She was predeceased by her mother and her step-father, Paul Roy. DEPEW Sara Mary Depew Woodruff Cooper

of Lansing, formerly of Montour Falls, died September 22, 2013, at the age of 87. Born September 6, 1926 in Montour Falls, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Frances (Pellam) Depew. Over the years Mary had been employed at NCR, Morse Chain and retired from Borg Warner, after which she spent over 20 years in Zephyrhills, FL, before returning to live near her daughter, Jean, in Lansing. While in FL, Mary was active with the Zephyrhills VFW, and was also a former member of the Moose Club and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #250. Aside from spending time with her family, Mary enjoyed playing cards, fishing, smelting, canning and freezing vegetables and working on the family farm. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Doris and brothers, Paul, Bill, Gene, Fred, Clyde and Gail. Mary is survived by her children, Jean Crozier of Lansing, NY, Carol Vary of FL, Winslow Woodruff III (Donna) of East Aurora, NY, Rita Onyan of Rochester, NY, Linda George of Syracuse, NY, Mary Kay Woodruff of FL, and Charlene Eastman of FL; grandchildren, Brian Crozier (Shelly), Butch Crozier (Penny), Janet Clemens, Kris Davis (Kevin), Renee Keele (Brian), Nathan Vary (Kim), Beau Woodruff, Eric Woodruff (Ashley), Clark Woodruff, Josh Onyan (Corie), Jeremy Onyan, Zachary Onyan (Christina), Hilary George and John George; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Ainah Bennett; brother, Claude Depew; and a large extended family. A graveside service, officiated by Pastor Jane Sautter, will be held at 11AM, Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Soule Cemetery, corners of Pine Ridge Rd. & Franklin St. Rd., Auburn, NY. 48, Spencer, NY died Monday, September 23, 2013 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. He was born in Sayre on September 10, 1965. Jon is survived by his wife, Rhonda; stepson, Shaughn Sackett, Wichita Falls, TX; parents, Paul and Sarah (Mallula) Efthimiou, Spencer; brother, Marcus (Susan) Efthimiou, Caton, NY; sister, Kaarina Efthimiou, Spencer; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nephew and cousins. Jon had been a member of Spencer-Van Etten Youth Association, where he had coached. He enjoyed being with the "Deck Dwellers". Jon worked many years for P&R Oil Company in Spencer. FARR Timothy John Farr

31, of Ulster, Pa., died Thursday afternoon, September 19, 2013 as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Monroe Township, Bradford County, Pa.  Timothy was born in Sayre, Pa. on October 4, 1981 the son of John Farr and Lois Baker Farr. He attended Athens High School, and was formerly employed by Thomas Cotter Contracting and the Jerry Sarnoski Quarry. Timothy was employed by the Tuttle Quarry in Monroe Township at the time of his death. Timothy was an avid football fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Penn State and New York Yankees baseball. He enjoyed collecting Sponge Bob memorabilia.  He is survived by his wife, Heather Madigan Farr whom he married on May 22, 2010 in Sayre, Pa., mother, Lois Farr of Sayre, father and step mother, John and Mary Farr of Laceyville, Pa., step-mother, Kim Place of Waverly, N.Y., grandfather, Jack of Waverly, N.Y., brothers, John Farr and wife Maria of Ulster, Pa., Bryant Frisbie of Virginia, sisters, Tina Hall and husband Chris of Ulster, Pa., Valarie Farr of Waverly, N.Y., and Brittanie Farr of Waverly, N.Y., as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Maxine Baker and uncle, Toby Baker.  The funeral service will be held Monday, September 23, 2013 at 4 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. FINNERTY Almer Eugene Finnerty

70, of Towanda died at home on Sept. 17, 2013. Almer was born a son of the late Andrew and Irene Finnerty in Troy, Pa. He graduated from Troy High School and married his wife of 27 years, Mary K. Finnerty, on June 5, 1987, in Towanda, Pa. Almer was a devout husband, father and grandfather; a longtime owner of the Burlington Hotel, farmer, avid hunter and outdoorsman. His last few years were spent enjoying rides with Coltayn on the tractors and "Green Machine" and watching for the elusive trophy buck. He was a member of the Monroeton Gun Club and the Ridgebury Sportsmans Club, where he made many friends over the years. He is survived by his wife, Mary K. Finnerty at home; children, Melissa Shumway of Burlington Pa., Debbie Finnerty of Burlington, Pa., Randy (Stacey) Finnerty of North Towanda, Pa., Trina Finnerty of Towanda, Pa., Jim Finnerty of Elmira, N.Y.; grandchildren, Montana, Mason, Coltayn, Crew, Juanita, Brandon and Leonel; sister, Sandra Poore of Florida; brothers, Douglas Finnerty of Wellsville, N.Y., and Dean Finnerty of Cuba, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. GLIDDEN Stephen James "Poppy" Glidden

Age 67, of Elmira Heights, NY, died Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved. Stephen was born on November 25, 1945 in Island Falls, ME to the late Rev. Gerald R. and June G. Giggey Glidden. Stephen is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rhona Griggs Glidden; daughter, Amy J. (John) Pine, Horseheads, NY; sons, Gerald R. and Stephen G. Glidden, both of Elmira Heights, NY; grandsons, Samuel J. Pine and Gregory S. Glidden; granddaughter, Alexandrea R. Pine; sister, Sharon Lowmaster, Horseheads, NY; brothers, Rodney Thompson, Presque Isle, ME and Douglas Glidden, Snellville, GA; along with a host of nephews, nieces and extended family. HECK Donald E. Heck, Sr.

age 75, of Tioga, PA, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. Donald was born May 26, 1938 in Tioga, a son of William and Verma (Rose) Heck. He was the husband of Norma J. (Lewis) Heck. Donald was a meter reader for Tioga Borough and had worked at Ingersoll Rand before his retirement. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Master, Forest Fire Warden for 40 years, Assistant Fire Chief and honorary member of the Tioga Fire Department, enjoyed hunting and fishing. Donald was in the Army Reserve. HOFFMAN Sarah (Sally) Hoffman Pinkston

of Lenox, MA died on August 22, 2013, nine days before her 90th birthday. Sally was born on August 31, 1923 in the Town of Ashland, Chemung County, NY, a daughter of Arthur Lewis Hoffman and Mary Rathbone Hoffman and was raised in Elmira, NY. She was a graduate of Mount Vernon Seminary in Washington, D.C. and Smith College in Northampton, MA. Sally married James Conyers Pinkston III of Corning, NY on June 5, 1948 and they resided in their beloved home in Corning for 57 years. Her husband predeceased her on January 7, 2005. Sally moved to PineHill Assisted Living at Kimball Farms in Lenox, MA in November 2010. Sally was involved in her community and supported numerous organizations in the Corning- Elmira area. She volunteered countless hours to Corning Hospital Chapter P, Meals on Wheels, Corning Civic Music Association, Corning Philharmonic Society, United Way, Junior League, and other organizations. A longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church, Sally served on the altar guild for years and also taught Sunday school. She was a Boy Scout den mother and Girl Scout troop leader for her children and their friends. She also supported Smith College as a volunteer with the Smith Fund and Alumnae Admissions. Sally and her husband Pink were active members of the Corning Country Club. An accomplished golfer, Sally won the CCC women's club championship several times and was honored as a "Legend of the Club". For over 25 years, Sally and Pink volunteered with the LPGA Corning Classic. Sally was also active with the Women's Finger Lakes Golf Association and she was inducted into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame for golf in 1982. Sally was loved and admired by her friends and family. Sally is survived by her son, James (Dutch) Conyers Pinkston IV, and his wife, Anne, of West Stockbridge, MA, her daughter, Patricia Rathbone Pinkston, and her husband, Robert Ranger, of Warren, VT, and her son, Robert Hoffman Pinkston, and his wife, Louise, of Spring, TX. She leaves seven grandchildren: Jake, Will and Nell Pinkston, Martin Gutierrez, and Hoffman, Wheeler, and Bowen Pinkston. Her sister, Harriet Hoffman Brand, and her son, Thomas Olcott Pinkston, predeceased her. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 30th at 10 o'clock at Christ Episcopal Church, 33 East First Street in Corning. A private burial service will follow at Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. HOWE John Leo Howe

70, of Waverly, N.Y., died on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at ElderWood Health Care Facility.  He was born on February 27, 1943 in Waverly, N.Y., the son of the late Albert Leo and Harriet G. Titus Howe.  John was a member of the Waverly Baptist Church for over 45 years, served as a Deacon, taught adult Sunday School, and participated in the Choir. John carried the Spirit of Christmas in his heart, through Scripture, music, and yes, Santa Claus and all the trimmings. He filled his home with house plants and special cacti and was a pet lover and a pet rescuer. John was employed for over 40 years at Liberty Research as a dedicated, certified lab technician. He is predeceased by his sister Dorla Howe Johnson and brother-in-law Joseph Fusare. John is survived by his sister, Lorraine Howe Fusare of Pittsford, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Robert Johnson of Waverly; nieces and their spouses: Joan (Fred) Mundrick, Susan (Tracy) Estelle, Ann (Todd) Starkweather, Joanne (Brian) White, and Susan (Mark) Leader; nephew and his spouse Michael (Chris) Fusare, and nephew Thomas Fusare. He is also survived by grand-nieces and nephews; Heidi Hood (James), Gretchen Mundrick, Tim, Cory, and Kyle Estelle, Heather Stanton, Elyse, Megan and Andrew Zobel; also, Joseph and Jacob Fusare, Keegan and Madison White, Benjamin and Caroline Leader.  John's surviving cousins are Linda (Bill) Rial, John (Lorraine) Howe, Tina Fields Howe, Susan (Chris) DePumpo, Laurissa (Richard) Hatch and Joann Titus Smith.   Observing John's wishes, there will be no calling hours or graveside service. John expressed a wish that a sincere thank you be given to the staff and a former staff member on the second floor of ElderWood Healthcare Facility. They helped create for him his home away from home, a safe haven.  John's sister would like to thank the local clergy of all faiths and church friends who ministered to John's spiritual needs and wishes. age 66 of Osceola, PA died on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at his home. Born May 11, 1947 in Elkland, PA, he was the son of the late David and Dorothy (Horton) Johns. He married Louise Mann on March 8, 1980; she died in 2005. Charles worked at LaBarrons scrap yard in Troupsburg, at the A & P plant in Horseheads and and at the Ingersall Rand in Painted Post. He also owned and operator Chuck and Jerry’s Gunsmith shop. He loved to fish ad hunt, gun smithing, tinkering on things and steam engines. Charles was a mentor to all and loved to help anyone out. He is survived by his sons, Daniel (Tracey) Boom, Milfor (Karen) Boom and Rex (Sandy Ellis) Boom; daughters, Roseann (Rob) Weber, Julie (Bill) Smith, Kathy (Jim Lowe) Badmone and Nora (Jim Sampson) Gitchell; his brothers, Bob, Jack, LeRoy and Gerald; sisters, Betty, Evelyn, Annabelle, Donna, Julie, Ruth and June; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. of Rexville, NY, died Monday, September 16, 2013. Born May 8, 1936, in Whitesville, NY, he was the son of Milford and Florence Cleveland Kellogg. He was married to the former Evelyn M. Harrington, who survives. Dale was employed by the newspapers in Whitesville and Bolivar, NY and Capital Plastics in Wellsville, NY. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Whitesville Rod and Gun Club, the Owls Club, and the NRA. He was life member of the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving besides his wife, Evelyn, are: four daughters, Diane (Lynn Coleman) Bledsoe of Whitesville, NY, Shirley Cramer of Freeville, NY, Patricia (Randy) Johnson of Wellsville, NY, and Nancy Whatley of Manvel, TX; a son, Henry (Kelly) Kellogg of Whitesville, NY; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Cline of Wellsville, NY; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Joseph Cramer; and three brothers, Robert, Richard, and Bernard. Age 85, of Pine Valley, NY, died on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was the son of the late Raymond R. and Ruth (Turner) Lofstrom. He is survived by daughter, Debbie (George) Sutton; sons, David (Jeannette) Lofstrom and Donald (Debbie) Lofstrom; grandchildren, Christine (Eddie) Diorka, Kathy Lofstrom; future great-grandchild expected in November, baby girl Diorka; grandpups, "Frankie" "Romeo", and "Polly"; also survived by his children's mother, Trudy Barnard; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Retired Captain of 25 years for the New York State Department of Corrections and US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 154 of Elmira Heights, member of Our Savior Lutheran Church Choir and the Elmira Choral Society. He was a dancing, skating, jazz, roller coaster and sailing enthusiast. Raymond was a member of the Rolling Acres Fireside committee solving the world's problems one sunset at a time, and was a member of the Southside High School graduating class of 1947. age 71 years died September 14, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY. Joan was born in Olean, NY on August 15, 1942, grew up in Elmira, NY and graduated from Southside High School in 1960. She received her Associates Degree from the University of Toledo. Joan was employed by and retired from the NYS Office of Court Administration. She is predeceased by her parents John and Genevieve McCabe; brothers, Patrick, John and Peter; sister, Jacqueline and a nephew Peter. Joan is survived by her son Chip (Necole) Good; grandchildren, Riley, Aidan and Payton; sister, Jean Angell; sisters-in-law, Jeannie and Rita McCabe; several nieces and nephews and step-daughters Barb Good, Kim Lagonegro and Becki Good. McDOWELL Boyd McDowell II

of Elmira, NY died June 9, 2013 at Seneca View, Montour Falls. Friends are invited to a Celebration in memory of his life at The Park Church on Friday, October 11 at 4 PM, to be followed by a reception at the Elmira City Club. He was President and then Chairman of the Board of Chemung Canal Trust Company from 1976 to 1991 and served many local community organizations. He is survived by his wife Barbara Hickox McDowell; three children: Boyd III (Bonnie) of Chicago, Peter (Anne) of Kirkland, WA, and Elizabeth (Heather) of Boston; two stepchildren: Susan Fisher (Kenneth) of Rochester, and Lydia Eldridge (James) of Horseheads; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; as well as one brother, John A, of Glenora, NY. He was pre-deceased by his older brothers, Robert A. of NYC and Willard B. of DeWitt, NY and one stepchild, John C. Phelps. MEADE Catherine "Kay" Borden

died on August 5, 2013, in Lexington, KY, from complications of Parkinson's disease. She was born on April 17, 1924, in Horseheads, NY, the daughter of Frank and Rose Meade of Pine Valley. Kay graduated from Horseheads High School in 1942 and then moved to Oneonta, NY, where she met and married Ray Borden and raised a family. In 1964 Kay graduated from the Practical Nursing School of Oneonta and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Fox Hospital. She was President of the Otsego County Division of the LPN of New York from 1968 to 1972. In 1973 Kay moved to Florida, continuing her dedicated work as an LPN. Ray died in Florida in 1999. In 2005 Kay moved to Lexington, KY, where she lived very happily until her final illness in June of 2013. Kay is survived by her son, Joe; her daughters, Jean and Janice; her granddaughters, Erin and Cindy; her grandson, Guy; her great grandchildren, Dominic and Ava. Also Kay has many loving nieces, nephews and cousins in the Horseheads area. A Mass for Kay will be held at St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads at 10 a.m. on October 10. 73, of Sabinsville, PA, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 in the Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA.  Born August 26, 1940, Girardville, PA, she was the daughter of Harry and Irene Mervine. On September 13, 1968, in Folcroft, PA, she married Richard L. Keevill, who survives. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and playing games. Surviving besides her husband, Richard, are: four children, Michael DeMaio of Westfield, Lorraine (Robert) Bellows of Johnstown, CO, David (Karen) DeMaio of Fairbanks, AK, and Alison Keevill of Coudersport; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her twin brother, William H. Age 95 died quietly in the skilled nursing facility of St. Joseph's Hospital on Thursday, September 12, 2013. She was born on December 29, 1917 in Elmira, New York to Earl and Bernice (Rowley) Mosher. Bettie is survived by her only child Charles Francis Besanceney (Carrie) of Youngstown, NY; granddaughter Jennifer Anne Latham of Owasso, OK; grandsons, Todd Andrew Besanceney of Switzerland and Matthew Ryan Besanceney of Buffalo, NY; and great granddaughters, Zoe Camille Latham and Sophie Madeline Latham of Owasso, OK, and Josephine Scout Besanceney and Madeleine Sage Besanceney of Switzerland. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their offspring. Bettie was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 56 years Norton (Nort) Besanceney, and brother Edmund Mosher and sisters Isabelle Mosher, Evelyn Gardner and Mary Kosmicki. Bettie was a graduate of Elmira College and had taught at the high school level in East Bloomfield, NY after graduation. She had been a lifetime member of Christ's United (formerly Hedding) Methodist Church. She was an enthusiastic square dancer, golfer, bird-watcher and traveler. Later, as her health declined, she became more focused on her family. Died on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the age of 75. A lifetime resident of Daggett, PA. Spending several years in Elmira, NY, Port Charlotte, FL, and the past few years at several nursing homes in the area. Emma was predeceased by her parents, Grover Harry and Florence Lina (Updike) Northrup, her first husband of 37 years, Donald Gordon Combs and second husband and best friend, James Edgar Taft. She is survived by her sons, Lawrence Gordon Combs of Elmira, NY; Donald Raymond Combs of Addison, NY; grandchildren, Jason Scott Combs of Tennessee; Laura Jean Combs, Donald James Combs; Jessica Maree Combs of Lindley, NY; also surviving are step-children, Anna (Combs) Keeney of Corning, NY; Donna (Combs) Eldridge of Hudson, NC; Rick Combs of Lindley, NY; along with several step-grandchildren, step-great great grandchildren. Emma also leaves behind several lifelong friends and several other special people. OELLER Sandra Oeller Jones

age 69, of Sugar Run, Pa., died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa., with her loving family at her side. Sandra was born on Oct. 10, 1943, in Stamford, Conn., daughter of Alfred Oeller and the late Dorothy White Oller. She attended GAR High School, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., graduating in the class of 1962. After school she met and married Stanley Jones of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Feb. 27, 1965, they just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary this year. She worked as an LPN at several health care facilities in the Wyoming Valley during her career. She and Stanley moved to the Wyalusing area in 1998 and were the former owners of Bradford Diamond Jewelry Store, Wyalusing, Pa. 49, died at home in Watkins Glen with his loving family and friends by his side on September 19, 2013, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Jeff was born on May 17, 1964 in Montour Falls, NY, the son of Clifton E. Ray and the late Sharon E. Conklin Ray. He was a 1982 graduate of Odessa-Montour. Jeff is survived by his father, Clifton E. REID Thomas J. "Tommy" Reid, Jr.

39, of Athens, Pa. died Saturday, September 14, 2013 at home following an extended illness.  He was born on April 18, 1974 in Oceanside, N.Y. the son of Thomas J., Sr. and Barbara Werhner Reid. Tommy was a loving father, son, brother, and uncle. He was an avid Buffalo Bills and NY Mets fan. He enjoyed photography, and playing Lacrosse, Ice Hockey, and Football. Tommy loved camping with his Band of Brothers, spending time with his family, especially with his daughter and son who were the center of his life. He was the family jokester and was famous for his one-liners. Tommy will be missed by all those who knew and loved him, He is predeceased by his father Thomas J. Reid, Sr. and niece Sarah Reid. 83, of Lawrenceville, died on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, in the Corning Hospital, Corning, N.Y. Born on Feb. 11, 1930, in Wellsboro, he was the son of Claude Clinton and Marguerite (Cole) Kyler. Richard and his wife, Anna Belle (Fisher) Rice, celebrated 63 years of marriage. Prior to his retirement, Richard was employed for 40 years as a truck driver with Corning Glass Works, Inc. He enjoyed travelling. In addition to his wife, Anna Belle, Richard is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Russell and CeCe Rice of Anderson, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan Maria and Raymond Criss of Millerton; a brother, Robert Russell Rice of Bloomsburg; two sisters, Evelyn Leonard of Columbia Crossroads, Beverly McMullen of Morrisdale; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Joshua, Ashlee and four great-grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by his parents; a grandson, Christopher Rice; and a sister, Alberta Bronson. In keeping with Richard's wishes, there will be no services. ROLFE Retha May Rolfe Schrader

Mom, go rest high on that mountain, your work here on earth is done. Retha May Rolfe Schrader, 89, of Towanda, Pa., died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 4, 1924 in Sayre, Pa., the daughter of the late Irvin R. and Eva Pollard Rolfe. Retha lived in Ulster until 2 years-of-age, when her family moved to a farm outside of Nichols, N.Y. She graduated from the Nichols School in 1942. Retha was known for her love of her family, flower gardening and made excellent pies. She married Clifford Schrader on July 4, 1942, in Marysville, Ga. They moved to Windham (West Warren) in 1950 where they lived for 50 years. She was a 4-H leader for the Windham Center 4-H Club for many years. She is predeceased by her parents, Irvin R. and Eva Pollard Rolfe; brothers, Henry, Carl, Kenny and Donald Rolfe; sisters-in-law, Alta Rolfe, Patricia Jenkins, Hilda Blair and Lula Schrader. Retha is survived by her children, I. RUSIN Bonnie Jean Rusin Cook

76, of Grayslake, IL, died early Saturday morning, September 14, 2013 at Lake Forest Hospital. She was born February 23, 1937 to the late John Rusin and Velma Rusin Kangas. She married William M. Cook on June 28, 1958 in Elmira, NY. Bonnie was a telephone operator for 30 years, taking time off to raise five children, foster infants, troubled teens and unwed mothers. Shortly after retiring, she again stepped into the role of caretaker, babysitting her grandchildren and delighting in their very being. Always a loving and giving person, she dedicated her life to caring for others and leaving the world a better place. Bonnie also loved to travel, Australia, England, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Spain, Gibralter and Morocco to name a few. She is survived by her husband, William Cook of Grayslake; five children, Cynthia Cook of Fox Lake, Shawn (Debbie) Cook of Lake Villa, Timothy (Marcy) Cook of Spring Grove, Brian (Chris Gaynes) Cook of Woodstock and Stephen Cook of Capron, IL; and her adored grandchildren, Ashley, Sara, Jessica, Connor, Caylee and Cody. age 87, of Wyalusing, Pa., died on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at the Memorial Hospital in Towanda, Pa., after a brief illness. Pat was born in Dushore on June 27, 1926, a son of the late William and Ellen T. McKernan Ryan. He graduated from St. Basil's High School with the class of 1945. Pat married the former Catherine Geraldine Gainer on Nov. 21, 1953. Catherine predeceased him on Aug. 15, 2006.Pat operated his family farm for many years and later worked for PennDOT, from which he retired. Pat was a member of St. Basil's Church, Dushore, Pa., and a member of the former Holy Name Society. Surviving are his four sons, P. Timothy Ryan of Athens, Pa., Michael S. Ryan of Spencer, N.Y., Richard K. Ryan of Dushore, Pa., William P. Ryan of Dushore, Pa.; two daughters, Monica C. Miller of Orefield, Pa., Carmel A. Ryan of Walnutport, Pa.; a sister, Catherine McMahon of Dushore, Pa.; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preleased by two brothers, Joseph Ryan and James Ryan. A transferal service will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, from the P. Lillian was married to Wenzel J. Zeaman, who predeceased her in 1974. 84, of Mifflintown and formerly of Wellsboro, died on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born August 25, 1929, in Ford City, she was the daughter of the late Palmer Robinson and Anna Dorothea (Burdette) Stepp. Her husband, Robert O. Walker, Lt. Col. (Ret.), whom she married on July 14, 1950, died on Dec. 28, 1999.She is survived by two daughters, Jayne Walker Kelley Wirrick and her husband, Phillip, of Mifflin, Susan Walker Vollmer and husband, Timothy "Leo," of Bloomsburg; one brother, Alvin Stepp and wife, Muffy, of Antioch, Calif.; six grandchildren, Aaron Kelley and wife, Stephanie, Sarah Leimone and husband, Brian, Katie Bingaman and husband, Aaron, Erik Vollmer and wife, Ashley, Gretchen Vollmer, Elizabeth Vollmer; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Hannah Kelley; one son-in-law, the Rev. Douglas Kelley; two brothers and four sisters. Rovena worked as a secretary for North Penn Gas Company and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellsboro. She was active in the Wellsboro Art Club and enjoyed painting and sewing. She appreciated anything related to French culture and liked to make French food. Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Ken Hepner officiating. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery, Washington, D.C. at a later time. There will be a viewing on Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church. SWEET Carl H. Sweet

75, of Clewiston, Fla. formally from Sayre, Pa. died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at home following a brief illness.  Born July 8, 1938 in Towanda, Pa. the son of the late Festus and Esther Morley Sweet.  A Member of the New York State Retired Teachers and Order of the Eastern Star #43; Past Patron; Rural Amity Lodge #70 and Royal Arch Chapter #93, Past High Priest and Secretary and Northern Commandery #16, Past Commander; Elks Lodge, Towanda, Pa. and Past PIAA Football and Basketball Official; Past Member of Sayre United Methodist Church — a President of Official Board Pastor Parrish Relations and was a Lay Speaker.  He coached football, basketball, swimming and track during his teaching career. He continued to coach track and field with his grandchildren.  He was most proud that he coached his youngest daughter Connie to a national shot put championship. Carl graduated from Bloomsburg University BS in Mathematics and Science, Elmira College; Masters of Science in Education, plus 60 hours further education. He taught 30 years, retiring from Elmira Free Academy in 1993. He was active in Elmira Teachers Association and New York Retired Teachers. Carl taught mathematics in the Elmira Free Academy retiring in 1993 after 30 years teaching.  He was also employed by Sylvania Electric, Towanda for a period of six years. Carl was a 4H Club Leader for many years and was also 4H Camp Counselor.  He raised and showed registered Paso Fino horses till he retired from teaching.  He enjoyed years traveling with his motor home throughout the US and Canada.  He is preceded in death by his Father Festus Sweet, Mother Esther, younger brother Roland F. Sweet, and son in law David Mitchell, sister in law Marie Horton and brother in law David Horton.  Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years Patricia Casselbury Sweet at home; four daughters; Crystal Mitchell of Sayre, Pa. Born on April 2, 1985 in Elmira, Adam was the son of Joseph & Sue Schmidt Teets, Elmira; also surviving are his siblings and their families, Jimmy (fiancee, Stephanie Hughes) Janeski, Columbus, OH with children, Ava, Jaxon, and Austin Janeski; Michael (fiancée, Bobbie Barber) Janeski, Cincinnatus, NY with children, Dylan Barber, Alexandria and Zackery Janeski; Mike (Kim) Teets, Elmira, NY with children, Mikey and Blake Teets; Lisa Teets, Painted Post, NY with children, Andrew and Brianna Costley; Jill (Leroy) Brown, Elmira, NY with son, Isaiah Brown; maternal grandmother, Jean Bartlett Schmidt, Pine Valley, NY; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Very special friend, Bron Baldwin and beloved canine companion, "Cuse". Gifted with a wonderful sense of humor, Adam had a huge heart full of love for people and animals. From an early age, Adam loved sports. His love of the Yankees, Giants, Syracuse Teams and his passion for the game of golf were tremendous. Those coming to celebrate Adam's life, are encouraged to wear a Yankee, Giants or Syracuse Shirt to honor Adam's love of his teams. WALKER Allen L. Walker [SRGP 70450]

age 70, of Mansfield, PA, died Friday, September 13, 2013 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Allen was born January 30, 1943 in Wellsboro, PA, a son of Joseph D. and Louise T. Walker. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Knowlton) Walker. Allen was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Mansfield, PA, Friendship Lodge, Mansfield, Friendship-Williams 400 Lodge, Jenkintown, PA, and proud of being a part of The York Rite. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Allen was a Naval Liason for Northrup Grumman, Long Island, NY. Allen is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; a son and daughter-in-law, Iain L. and Rachael Walker of Greencastle, IN; two step-sons, Mark Scureman of DelRay, FL, Daniel Scureman of Lawrenceville, VA; a step-daughter, Maria Scureman of Raleigh, NC; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Linda Walker of Muncy, PA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pamela and Dan Shipe of Wellsboro, PA, Amy and Mark Murdough of Pine City, NY; a special niece, Alexandra Murdough. WEAVER Darlene Allis

"When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure."  Darlene Allis, 76, of West Warren, Pa., died on Thursday evening, Sept. 12, 2013, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Towanda Memorial Hospital. Darlene was born on Jan. 5, 1937, in Warren Center, Pa., a daughter of the late Forrest and Leona (Snyder) Weaver. On Jan. 13, 1953, she married Leon C. Allis and together they shared 60 years of marriage. For 25 years, Darlene was employed as head house keeper for the Owego Treadway. She was a member of the West Warren Congregational Church. She enjoyed reading, tending to her flower gardens, listening to country music and spending time with her family. Darlene will be greatly missed by her husband, Leon; her children, Connie Allis of Orlando, Fla., Audra (Sue) Allis of Rome, Pa., Terry Harvey of Orlando, Fla., Bradley (Rita) Allis of Stockton, Calif., Rhonda Allis of Winter Garden, Fla., William "Bill" Allis of Orlando, Fla.; her sisters, Una Pitcher of Towanda, Pa., Sandra (Jim) Merrell of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Alvah "Sonny" (Marge) Weaver of Lawton, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gladys Cobb of Neath, Harold and Juanita Allis of Nichols, N.Y., Carol Hartford of Ulster, Pa., Robert and Alice Allis of Orwell, Pa., Donna and Sonny Doane of Nichols; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. WEYANT Shirley A. (Weyant) Shuff

age 78, formerly of Blossburg, PA, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Green Home, Wellsboro, PA. She was born March 1, 1935 in Altoona, PA a daughter of John and Catherine Weyant. Shirley was the wife of Oliver Shuff. She enjoyed playing bingo, going shopping, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Shirley is survived by her husband, Oliver; sons, Bill Jones of Michigan, Roger (Raven) Jones of Bath, NY, Terry Shuff of Covington, PA; adopted sons, John and Steven Shuff of MI; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jerry Jester of Scranton, PA; 7 grandchildren, Susan, Mark, Shannon, Brian, Sarah, Tasha and Amanda; brothers and sisters. Shirley was predeceased by her parents.   In keeping with Shirley's wishes, there will be no services. WHITE Mary A. JEFFERS

85, of Ulysses, PA, died September 11, 2013. Born March 7, 1928, in Almond, NY, she was the daughter of William Elmer and Gladys Harrington White. On December 5, 1948, in Burns, NY, she married Elwin S. Jeffers, who survives. She was a member of the Ulysses First Baptist Church, HUG Senior Center in Ulysses, Ulysses Grange, and a charter member of the Tri-Town Volunteer Firemen's Auxiliary in Ulysses. Surviving, besides her husband, Elwin, are: three sons, Gene (Deborah) Jeffers of Sabinsville, PA, James Jeffers of Ulysses, and Gary Jeffers of Carlisle, PA; three daughters, Donna (Donald) Richardson of Monroeton, PA, Roxanne (Anthony) Tomak of Campbell, NY, and Lori (Kenneth) Risser of Ulysses; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lloyd (Delores) White and Albert (Janet) White, both of Canaseraga, NY, George White of Erin, TN, and Kenneth (Dottie) White of Salem, NY, four sisters, Virginia Johnson of Erin, TN, Norma Schwartz of Hornell, NY, Rosalee Allen of White Salmon, WA, and Carol (Kenneth) Behn of Andover, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters-in-law, Sandra Jeffers and Deborah Jeffers; a grandson, Philip G. WILCOX Maynard Wilcox

66, of Syracuse, N.Y., formerly of Wyalusing, Pa., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2013 at his home. Maynard was born June 13, 1947 in Sayre, Pa., a son of the late Oliver W. Wilcox Sr. and Margaret Wells Wilcox McDonough of Sugar Run. He graduated from Wyalusing Valley Jr.-Sr. High School in 1965. He then attended Penn State University from which he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was a Green Beret. He was honorably discharged and returned to Penn State University. He was an avid bicycler. Surviving, in addition to his mother, is his son Richard Wilcox, Hornbrook, Pa.; sister Kathleen (Doug) Bowman, Jacksonville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers David Gregory Wilcox in 1949 and Oliver W. Wilcox Jr. in 1986.A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, Pa. Pastor Joseph P. Billingsley of the Mehoopany Baptist Church will be officiating. WILSEY Donald W. Wilsey

76, of Sayre died at the Robert Packer Hospital on Friday, September 20, 2013 after a long illness.  He was born on January 19, 1937 a son of the late Willard R. and Emma L. (Paden) Wilsey in Monroe Township, Pa. After high school Donald served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1955 to 1959. He married the love of his life Jeannette (Roberts) Wilsey on October 10, 1956 in Chemung, N.Y. Don worked for the U.S. State Department in communications for 30 years. He loved computers and tracing family genealogy.  Donald enjoyed his cat and constant companion Sarah. Donald is survived by his wife Jan at home; daughter Kim (Paul) Mikulak of Roanoke, Va., and son William (Kathleen) Wilsey of Culpeper, Va.; sister Leah (Sheldon) Millard of Plant City, Fla.; grandchildren Heather Wilsey (Eric) Popp, Michael (Hanna) Mikulak, Daniel Wilsey and Joseph Mikulak; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  At Donald’s request, all services will be announced at a later date by the family.  Caring assistance is being provided by the Cooley-Tioga Point Cremation and Burial Options, Inc., 802 N.
