AINEY Ronald K.
Age 82, formerly of Horseheads, died in Spring Hill, FL on
July 23, 2013. He was born in New Albany, Pennsylvania. He was a retired Senior
Engineer for the Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Horseheads. Mr. Ainey is
survived by his loving wife, June; son Ronald (Sara) Ainey; daughters, Anne
(Christopher) Gilbert and Linda (Daniel) Janssen; brother Marvin (Carole) Ainey;
six grandchildren: Sean (Erica) Gilbert, Brianna (Alex) Anderson, Julian
Janssen, Alison Janssen, Jenna and Philip Ainey; two great-grandchildren, Maya
Gilbert and Jon-Andrew Anderson. He was preceded in death by his brother, James.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest memorials be made to St.
Andrew's Episcopal Church in Spring Hill, Florida or the American Red Cross. A
Requiem Eucharist service will be conducted at 11AM on August 17th at St.

ALLEN Eva F. Sanford
age 79, of Corning died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at
Corning Hospital. Eva was born on July 12, 1934 in West Union, NY to Maynard and
Olive (Amadon) Allen. She married Donald Sanford in 1954 and was preceded in
death by him in 2013. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, sewing and
knitting. She is survived by three sons: Earl (Angela) Sanford of Campbell,
Donald (Kay) Sanford of Hammondsport, and Dale (Crystal) Sanford of Dixon, MO;
two sisters: Ruth Merrick of Wellsville, NY and Linda May of Florida; one
brother, Charles Allen of Avon, NY; seven grandchildren; seven great
grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Eva was predeceased by one brother and
six sisters. At Eva's request there will be no services and burial will be in
Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post. Memorial donations may be made in Eva's name
to the American Cancer Society, 1316 College Avenue, Elmira, NY 14901. Eva's

BARNES Pauline (Barnes) Pardee
78, of Athens Township, died at the Robert Packer Hospital
on Friday August 16, 2013. Pauline was born On June 23, 1935 in Sullivan County.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Alvie Pardee, and sons,
Clifford Thomas and David Pardee. Pauline is survived by her sons, Darrell
Pardee of Athens and Spencer Thomas of Waverly; daughter and son-in-law: Barbara
and Allen Ervin of Milan; daughter-in-law: Mary Pardee of Oil City, Pa.;
grandchildren: Allen Ervin Jr., Marcus Ervin, Tiffany Ervin, Clifford Thomas
(CJ), Nichole Thomas, Phillip Thomas, William Thomas, Danny Pardee, Janice
Pardee, and John Pardee; five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and

BEAVER Robert E. Beaver
age 86, of Mildred, Pa.,died on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 at
the Wyalusing Personal Care Home. Bob was born in Lopez, Pa., on March 3, 1927,
a son of the late Theodore Beaver Jr. and Ruth Dolores Crist Beaver. He
graduated from the Cherry Township High School and served in the Army during
World War II. He married the former Cherie Thrasher and she predeceased him in
1991.Bob began working for the Endicott Johnson Shoe Mfg. Co. in Mildred, Pa.,
and also was the projectionist at the George Gatta's theaters in Mildred and
Dushore and later at the Dushore Drive In. He worked for PennDOT and after the
election changed, he was a delivery driver for Carl Weed, Ed Strickland and
Dushore Beverage beer distributors. He then began working for Masonite Corp. in
Wysox from which he retired. Bob was a member of the D.O.E. Charge Redeemer
Church, Dushore, Pa., and a member of McDermott Post No. 452 American Legion,
Mildred, Pa., and a member of Evergreen Lodge No. 162 F. & A.M. in Monroeton,
Pa. Bob was a longtime Republican Committeeman for Cherry Township and was
involved as a Boy Scout leader, and volunteered for AAA as a meals on wheels
driver. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and really enjoyed
fishing. Bob was honored in the Voter's Hall of Fame for not missing an election
and was an accomplished bowler and a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame.
Surviving is his son Theodore (Linda) Beaver of Lopez, Pa.; daughter Bobbi J.
(James) Madigan of Luthers Mills, Pa.; brother-in-law Louis Blasi of Mildred,
Pa.; a special friend Roberta Kneller of Dushore, Pa.; three grandchildren Lisa
Sperry, Matthew Beaver, and Gabriel Minnier; three great-grandchildren Holly
Sperry, Aiden Sperry and Lauren Minnier; and several nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his son Robin Beaver in 2006 and a brother Harold Beaver of
Ithaca, N.Y.; and a sister, Lorraine Blasi of Mildred, Pa. A memorial service
will be held to celebrate Bob's life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 at
Redeemer Church, German Street, Dushore, with the Rev. Ronald L. Dyer, his
pastor, officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:03 a.m. prior to the
service. Evergreen Lodge No. 163, F. & A.M. will conduct a funeral service for
Brother Robert E. Beaver at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Redeemer Church,

BECHY Charles Anthony Bechy
age 59, was born April 24, 1954, and died at home
surrounded by his wife and family on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 after a 19-year
long battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Anthony &
Marilyn Bechy; sister, Karen; and nephews, Craig Lyons and James Wilcox. He was
survived by his wife Sally; daughter, Trista; eldest son, Chad and his special
friend Mary; youngest son, Jonathan and his wife Alexandra; grandchildren,
Javon, Tyriq and Anwar; Siblings, Carol and Robert Hughes, Lori Sawyer, James
and Elaine Bechy, Alan and Sissy Bechy, Mary Bikowski, Patricia and Thomas
Wilcox and Jeanne Bechy; and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was a wonderful
father and loved his children very deeply. He was always involved in all of his
children’s activities and sports. He was a hard worker and loved his work as a
gifted electrician. He was a very special man with an amazing spirit that never
gave up. He had a special gift with people and loved everyone. May he rest in

BEFFERT Alice Blackburn
age 77, of New Era, died on Friday, August 16, 2013 at her
home with her loving family at her side. Alice was born in Fallsington, Pa., on
March 25, 1936, a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Helen Bux Beffert. She
graduated from the Bristol High School a member of the class of 1955. She
married Edward C Blackburn of Bensalem, Pa., on Sept. 10, 1955. Last fall they
celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Alice was a member of Immaculate
Heart of Mary Parish, Dushore, Pa. Alice loved spending time with her family and
friends. She was an avid bingo player frequenting the bingo halls in the New
Albany Fire Company, and Black Walnut Legion. Alice liked reading, gardening,
and visiting casinos', her favorites being Showboat in Atlantic City and Parx in
Bensalem, Pa. Surviving is her spouse Edward C. Blackburn Sr., at home, sons and
daughter-in-laws Edward C. (Mary) Blackburn Jr., Nescopeck, Pa., Joseph M.
(Sandy) Blackburn, Levittown, Pa., Steven F. (Kelly) Blackburn, Freeland, Pa.;
daughter Kathleen M. Blackburn, New Albany, Pa., Susan A. (Michael) Wallover,

BILLS Paula Bills Clark
died on August 9, 2013 at the age of 81 in Greeneville, TN,
formerly from Montour Falls, NY. Paula was born November 4, 1931 to Earl & Ruth
Bills. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her husband, Lawrence.
Paula is survived by her son, Larry (Sharon) Clark of Montour Falls, NY;
daughter, Bonnie (Mike) Pierce of Montour Falls, NY; daughter, Gloria (Mark)
Boesch of Greeneville, TN; grandchildren, Matthew (Alicia) Clark, Andrew (Elise)
Clark, Neil (Krysti) Westervelt, Timothy (Mary) Westervelt, Valerie (Brian)
Youmans, Adam (Sylvia) Boesch; and 14 great-grandchildren. Paula was retired
from the Chemung Canal Trust Company. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make

BROWN Jessie Brown Nichols
was born to Sarah Louise and Charles Brown in Elmira, NY,
May 4, 1920. With her father's death, her mother remarried, Theodore F. Berry.
Together they raised Jessie and her siblings, now all deceased, including Lena,
Joseph, Charles, Artiemeasia, and Theodore. Jesse graduated high school in
Elmira, NY. She married her first husband Elijah Swain and bore two sons,
Elijah, Jr., surviving, and Ronnie, deceased. With her second husband, William
S. Nichols, the love of her life, she had two children, William Steadman and
Sally. Jessie helped her parents run Berry's Hotel and the Berry's Stock Farm,
worked as a homemaker and as a home health care aid for many years until her
retirement. In 1979, she and her husband moved to San Diego, CA where their
daughter resided. Following Bill's death in 1993 Jessie, "Nana" shared residence
with each of her children, spending the last decade with her daughter. She was a
strong pillar within her family and frequently consulted for wise counsel. She
is survived by her children Elijah (Becky) of Las Vegas, Steadman and Sally of
San Diego, grandchildren Tracey (Doug), William Steadman III, Jordan, Jadah,
great grandson Jacob, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends accumulated over
the years. Jessie died of natural causes in her home on August 5, 2013. A
Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, August 9 in San Diego.

BURKE John W. "Jack"
Lowman: Age 77, died at home on Friday, August 9, 2013.
Jack was born in Elmira on Oct. 21, 1935, son of John W. and Mildred (Bradley)
Burke. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary Frances (Lawes) Burke;
children with their families Colleen and John Rich of Horseheads with children
Mallory (Travis) Redner, Kristin and J.T. Rich; John W. Burke Jr. of Elmira with
children Rachael and Ryan; Ellen C. Burke of Elmira; great grandchildren Chance
and Lyla Redner; brother and sister-in-law, William J. and Anne Burke, Tyler TX;
cousin Marsha McCarthy, Orchard Park NY; sister-in-law Joan Rommelt, Elmira;
brothers-in-law, Theodore Rundall, New Jersey, Dr. Sydney Brown, Elmira, Jerome
Lawes, Horseheads; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Jack
was predeceased by daughter Deborah J. and son Thomas J. Burke. Jack was a U.S.
Marine Corps veteran. He served with the New York State Department of
Corrections and retired as a Superintendent. While with the Department of
Corrections he served as President of the Elmira Correctional Officers Union
Local 1240 and then served as the State President for the New York State
Corrections Officers Union Council 82 and served as Executive Director for
Council 82 in Albany. After retiring he served as Baldwin Town Justice. Jack
also served as President of the local magistrates association. He was an avid
sportsman and rodeo enthusiast. He also enjoyed refinishing antiques. His
greatest joy was time spent with his family. Family and friends are invited to
attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at
Ss. Peter & Paul Church. Military honors will be accorded outside of church

BUYERS Charlotte Buyers Farr
98, died Tuesday, July 30. She was born April 5, 1915 in
Hyden, Ky., to Rev. William Buyers of Honeybroook, Pa. and Rebecca Watson Buyers
of Frankfort, Ky. Her father was a Presbyterian circuit preacher in Leslie
County, Ky., and her aunts ran a boarding school for girls there. Her family
then moved to Christiana, Pa. and she graduated from Wheaton College in
Illinois. She taught school in Lancaster County, Pa. including a one-room Amish
school. In 1941 she married the love of her life, Harry Farr, a Presbyterian
minister. She worked alongside of him as he served churches in Honeybrook, Pa.,
Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Towanda, Pa., where they raised their three children.
Charlotte was a homemaker, gardener, Bible study leader, traveler, loving
grandmother, outdoor enthusiast. In addition she published a book on her
family's genealogy, was a member of the Lancaster Historical Society, the
D.A.R., officer in Presbyterian Women Association and the A.A.U.W. Following
retirement, she and Harry followed in her parents' footsteps as they moved to
Paradise, Pa., entertaining family and friends for 13 years at "Summer Hill."
Later in life, she and her husband lived at Westminster Village in Clarksville,
Ind., where she enjoyed living near her grandchildren and where she tended a
large flower garden into her 90s.Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband
Rev. Harry Farr; her sister Jane Arntz; and her brothers Robert Buyers, James
Buyers and John Buyers. She is survived by her sons James Farr (Joan) of Papua,
New Guinea, Lee Farr M.D. (Elizabeth), of Indianapolis; and her daughter Sally
Farr Craxton of Louisville; grandchildren Jamie Farr (Anita), Chris Craxton
(Karen), Robyn Lindquist (Carl), Charlotte Craxton, Kieran Farr, Eliza Farr, and
Zachary Farr; seven great-grandchildren along with 11 nieces and nephews. A
memorial service and burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 at
Gap, Pa. at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church. Visitation at the church will be

Age 72, of Dallas TXdied August 1, 2013 in Dallas. Paul was
born in Elmira on December 25, 1940, a son of the late Faustin J. and Ann
(Dooley) Clune. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by twin brothers,
John J. and Joseph F. Clune; brother-in-law David Wichtowski. Paul is survived
by daughter Paula Noden with husband Todd McLaughlin of California; Paula's
mother and Paul's former wife Kathy Clune of California; son Glenn Clune of
Pennsylvania; sister Marianne Wichtowski of Elmira; grandchildren Connor,
Kennedy and Kate Noden of California; nephew and niece, Michael (Melissa)
Wichtowski and Michelle Wichtowski all of Elmira and Jason Clune of Florida;
great nephew and great niece Andrew and Allyson Wichtowski of Elmira; special
friend Dee Gilbert of Texas. Paul was a 1959 graduate of Notre Dame High School.
He attended Corning Community College before enlisting in the United States
Marine Corps and proudly served in Vietnam. He worked for Corning Incorporated
before pursuing his passion as a "true cowboy" and working as a rancher in
Texas. Paul was buried on August 5, 2013, with full military honors, at
Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in

CODY Daniel L. Cody
born in Elmira, NY, October 11, 1954,died July 15, 2013 in
DeLand, FL after a short, courageous battle with cancer. He graduated with the
Southside Class of 1972 and served two tours in the USMC, one in the US Army. By
trade, Dan was an electrician. He was predeceased by his father, Leon L. Cody,
in 1975. He is survived by his mother, Barbara (William) McCartney; daughter,
Tia Cody of Charleston, SC; brothers and sisters, Michael (Kathy) Cody of
DeLand, FL, Coralea Cody Lewis, Anna (Wesley) Hibbard and William (Cheryl)

91, Indiana, PA (formerly of Elmira, NY) died Thursday,
August 8, 2013 while at Scenery Hill Manor. The son of Charles H. and Ruby
(Hoag) Cook, he was born October 24, 1921 in Rutland Township PA. Surviving are
his children, Debra Lawson, Indiana, Carlene Monsalve, Tampa, FL, and Brian Cook
and his wife Judy, Greenwood, DE; grandchildren, Ian and Alicia Lawson, Indiana,
and Moniqa Kiesling, Salem, OR; and David Cook, Greenwood, DE; and several
nieces and nephews. Preceding Carlyle in death were his parents; sisters, Fern
Cook (1919) and Nelda Holton (2003), and Ina Neal (2012). There will be no

CUMMINGS Donald L.
Age 69 of Cayuta, NY, died Monday, July 29, 2013, in Strong
Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY. Mr. Cummings was born in Elmira, NY, the son
of the late Russell and Lila (Brasser) Cummings. Don is survived by his
children, Timothy Cummings and Lori Cummings Colbath, both of Elmira, NY; and
sister, Linda Marcucci of Rochester, NY. He was also predeceased by his son,
Scott Cummings. Don retired as a driver from Howards Express, Elmira, NY and was
a member of the Teamsters Local Union. Services will take place at the

DENNISTON Ethel (Denniston) "Babe" Holliday
age 98, a resident of ELCOR Nursing Facility of Horseheads,
NY died at Arnot Ogden Medical Center on August 2, 2013 following a brief
illness. Babe was a long time resident of Albion, NY followed by nineteen years
in Orlando Florida upon retirement. She was born November 18, 1914 to Clara
(Fose) and James Tiffany Denniston of Albion. She was predeceased by husband,
Arnold W Holliday in 2001. She was the youngest of seven children including her
twin brother Chuck, all deceased. She is survived by daughter Marsha (Robert)
Curry of Webster, NY, Larry and Jane Holliday of Horseheads, NY and Marc D.
Holliday of Waterport, NY. Also Grandchildren, Bryan, Suzanne, Christopher,
Carrie, Holly, Janet and Katy. Great Grandchildren Kristine, Collin, Keigan,
Liam, Jack and Reed. She proudly completed her GED in 1963 and later completed
nurses training to become a skilled home health nurse in Orleans county. As a 62
year cancer survivor she often provided guidance and emotional support to other
women with similar diagnosis. Always a pillar of strength and a source of much
wit and wisdom Babe was loved and respected by every person she ever met and
will be greatly missed by all. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks
and gratitude to the many wonderful friends and staff she met during her six
years as a resident at ELCOR Nursing Facility, a place she quickly learned to
call home. There will be no calling hours at Babe's request and services will be
at the convenience of the family. She will be interned next to husband Arnold at

80, died on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013. Don was predeceased by
his sister, Marjorie Allen, and his two brothers, Fredrick DeWitt, Howard
DeWitt. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia DeWitt;
their children, Bob (Betsy) James, Nichols, Robin James, Nichols, Rick (Deneen)
James, Nichols; 11 grandchildren: Nicholas James, Doug James, Kristen James
(Eddie) Meyers, Angela Swagler, Kristofer (Christine) Swagler, Jamie Swagler,
Richard Swagler, Connor Swagler, Alexis Swagler, Brandi Norris, Brian Norris;
six great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Vivian DeWitt; several nieces and
nephews. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served on the U.S.S.
Norton Sound. He worked for many local monument dealers and later owned and
operated DeWitt Monument Service. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Church
and the Owego Moose Lodge. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on
Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 300 Main St., Owego
with the Rev. William Moorby, officiating. Burial will follow in the Nichols

DURFEY Diane M. (Durfey) Sonner
63, of Hammondsport (formerly of Elmira, NY) died
unexpectedly on Thursday, August 8, 2013. Diane was a 1967 graduate of Elmira
Free Academy and Beardsley Business School, Elmira, NY. Diane is survived by her
loving husband of 24 years David, son Chad (Eva) Houston, and daughter Rebecca
(Brett) Hampson, granddaughters, Leah and Aubrey, and grandson Will Hampson.
Sister Donna (Tony) Lisano and brother Thomas (Cathy) Durfey. Sister-in-Law Kim
Durfey, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pre-deceased by mother, Irene G.
Durfey, father Robert H. Durfey and brother Gordon W. Durfey. She recently
retired from Sikorsky (Schweizer) Aircraft after 28 years of dedicated service.
Diane's life was devoted to the care and nurturing of her family and was known
for her exceptional cooking. She made friends and visitors feel welcomed at her
Waneta Lake home. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 12, at 4
p.m. at North Presbyterian Church, 921 College Ave, Elmira, NY. Friends are
invited to a reception at the church celebrating Diane's life immediately

FORMAN Betty A. Briggs
82 of Horseheads, formally of Sayre, PA died peacefully on
Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the home of her daughter and son-in law surrounded
by her loving family. Betty was the daughter of the late Helen Sutton Forman and
Arthur Forman. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waverly and the
United Baptist Church of Elmira where she was a member of the choir. Betty will
be remembered for her beautiful voice, her wonderful smile and laugh, and her
always positive happy attitude, and her sense of humor. She was always willing
to help others and volunteered at the soup kitchen. She enjoyed needlework,
cross stitch, knitting, and putting puzzles together. What brought her the
greatest joy were her grandsons. She attended every school event and every
sporting event that she could. She worked for Acme Market in Sayre for 33 years.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Joe) Condame, and Grandsons, Tyler and
Ryan Condame of Millport, NY and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her
parents, she was predeceased by her husband Everett on May 17, 1984 as well has
her brother Earl S. Whitney, and sisters, Helen L. Boehm and Doris L. Wolcott. A
time of gathering with family and friends will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M,
Monday, August 12, 2013, at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly,
New York. The Celebration of Betty's Life will follow the visitation with the
Pastor David Daniels honoring her memory at 11:00 A.M. A special tribute to
Betty's life will be presented on DVD during the funeral service. Burial will be

52, a lifelong resident of Galeton, died on Wednesday, Aug.
7, 2013, at Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness. Born Dec.
17, 1960 in Wellsboro, she was a daughter of Leighton R. and Edna M. Abrahamson
Greene. Cheryl was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Galeton. She
enjoyed watching movies, shopping, going out to eat, playing bingo, and her
brother's dog, Buddy. Surviving are a sister, Marcia E. (Kenneth) Wingo,
Ulysses; a brother, Gregory P. Greene, Galeton; two nieces, Tess (Mike) Thome
and Amanda (Dave) VanderWeele; seven great-nieces and great-nephews. Cheryl was
predeceased by her parents. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 10,
2013, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Galeton. The Rev. Roger G. Wagner, of
Middlebury Center, officiated. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton.

Melbourne FL: Age 48, formerly of Elmira, died unexpectedly
on Wednesday, August 8, 2013. She was predeceased by her brother Randy L. Gush
in 1996. Cheryl is survived by her son Ryan Lippert, Finnleyville PA; mother and
stepfather Sandra and Michael Martyniak, Elmira; father and stepmother Charles
and Linda Gush; siblings, Scott J. Gush and wife Nancy, Palm Beach Gardens FL,
Michelle Redder, Elmira, Carol Kane and husband Joseph, Erin NY; along with
several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, all of whom meant so much to her.
Cheryl will be greatly missed and will be remembered with only the fondest of

HOOEY Robert "Bob" Joseph Hooey
62, of Chestertown, MD, died peacefully at home Monday,
August 5, 2013. Born on September 17, 1949 in Elmira, NY to the late Willard L.
and Ruth Bixby Hooey. Early in his work life, Bob was a concert and events
coordinator involving a variety of popular performing artists. The majority of
his career, however, focused on working with at-risk youth starting with
Horseheads Youth Bureau in Horseheads, NY and continuing at Set for Success in
Baltimore, MD and Outward Bound. Mr. Hooey was a college Student Activities
Director in Elmira, NY and Chestertown, MD. His dedication to youth is best
summed up through the words of one of his mentees upon learning of his passing:
"He had faith in me when no one else did. He taught me more about life than
anyone else could." Beyond his career, Bob is most remembered as a kind and
generous soul who will be sorely missed by many. Surviving are his wife, Susan
Park-Hooey and his loyal loving dog, Wilson; one daughter, Kristina M. Hooey of
Erin, NY; three grandchildren, Brianna Hooey, Emma and Kameron Gibson; one
great-granddaughter, Peyton Hooey-Wolf, all of Erin, NY; father-in-law, Robert
Park; brother-in-law, John Park; two sisters, Anne Marie Hooey (and husband,
Elwin) of Michigan and Sheri Southard (Larry) of Florida; and several nieces,
nephews, and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death

KELLEHER Kathleen "Kaye" Bowman Morgan (Kelleher)
73, resided in Indian Land, SC and formerly of
Fayetteville, NC hung up her fighting gloves in exchange for a well-deserved
pair of angel wings on Thursday August 15, 2013. She died peacefully at Memorial
Springs Hospital in Lancaster, SC. A Celebration of Kaye's Life will be held at
1:00 pm Tuesday, August 20th, 2013 in St. Mary's Chapel at St. Matthew Catholic
church with Monsignor John J. McSweeney officiating. A time of visitation will
be in the Chapel from 12 noon until 1:00 pm. Kaye was born in Barre, Vermont on
November 3, 1939 to the late John Joseph Kelleher and the late Glenna Metivier
Kelleher. Kaye was raised in Elmira, NY and graduated from Edison High School in
Elmira Heights, NY. Kaye had a lifelong real estate career to include employment
with Arran Realty, Yates Homes, Century 21, and Terry Spell Realty, all in
Fayetteville, NC. She was co-owner of the Realty Centre and co-owner of Kiddie
Kastle Day Care Center. Above all, her biggest accomplishment was her devotion
to her children and family. She took pride in all they did. She was skilled in
needlework, playing the piano, and enjoyed travelling. She will be remembered as
an incredible mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and caring friend.
Kathleen was preceded by her late husband James Bowman. She is survived by her
son, James David Bowman of Fayetteville, NC; daughter Brenda Bowman Williams of
Indian Land, SC; grandson James Gonzales of Anchorage, AK; granddaughter Madison
Bowman of Fayetteville, NC; her great grandchildren, Nevaeh and James Gonzales
of Fayetteville, NC; her sister Patricia Kelleher of Lake Wakes, FL and her
deceased siblings - brother John Kelleher and sister Theresa Granger both from

of Chenango Bridge, age 53, died on Monday, August 12, 2013
surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his father, Edward
Kelly. Michael is survived by his wife of 28 years, Brenda; his four children,
Krista, Coleen, Erin and Kyle; his mother JoAnne and his siblings, Tim (Pam),
Maureen (Joe Passarelli) and Patricia (Mike Reiter) also Brenda's siblings,
Brett (Lisa) Nickerson, Sue (Shawn Dean) and Kathi Engleman, as well as a large
extended family with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, also his
feline companion, Chloe and K-9 companion, Bella. Michael graduated from
Waverly High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from the University
of Scranton and then completed his Master’s degree at Penn State University.
He began his professional career with IBM and then moved to Lockheed Martin
where he was a Finance director, Controller in Owego. A devoted husband and
father, the most important thing in Michael's life was his family. Both
personally and professionally, he impacted the lives of countless individuals
throughout his life. Outside of his family and professional career, his biggest
passion was wrestling. Michael enjoyed a successful wrestling career in both
high school and college, however, his ultimate joy was his involvement with
Kyle's wrestling. Michael's family would like to extend a personal thank you to

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. She was born June 25, 1942,
in York, a daughter of Clovis and Geneva (Ryer) Kiser. Mary graduated from York
Catholic High School Class of 1960. She married John W. Saylor on May 13, 1961
and celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this year. Mary and her husband
owned and operated the Skyview Motel and Restaurant in Bremo Bluff, Va. from
1980 to 1999. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Wellsboro and
Morris 55 Plus Club. Mary is survived by her husband, John; a son and
daughter-in-law, John W. Saylor III and Kimberly of Troy, Va.; a daughter and
son-in-law, Angela and William Vienot of Palmyra, Va.; three grandchildren,

KLEM Michael Klem
age 80, of Dushore, PA passed away on Monday, August 12,
2013 at the Hospice Care Center in Sunbury, PA with his loving spouse and
Pastor, Father Joseph Hornick at his side. Mike was born in Lopez, PA November
11, 1932, the youngest of eleven children of the late Stephen & Mary Pishnak
Klem. He graduated from Cherry Township high school a member of the class of
1951. He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. He
married the former Mary Lou McMahon on January 17, 1959. Mike worked at GTE
Sylvania and on construction before retiring from Penn DOT in Montoursville, as
a highway inspector. Mike was a member of St. Basil’s church, Dushore, PA and a

KNOUFF George J. Knouff Jr.
age 70, of Dushore, Pa., died on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at
his home with his loving family at his side. George was born Dec. 17, 1942, in
Irvington, Essex County, N.J., a son of George J. Knouff Sr. and Sonia Lehenke.
He married the former Concetta Lia of Belleville, N.J., on Dec. 28, 1963, they
would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this coming December.
George served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard as a Staff Sergeant with
the 50th Armor Division, then with the 1st Army as a platoon Sgt. He served in
the National Guard during the riots of the 1960s. He studied and obtained his
engineering license and began work for AT&T Bell Labs. While at Bell Labs in the
1980 he was instrumental in getting AT&T to donate a retired Fire Engine to the
Dushore Fire Company. He retired at age 55 to take up a second career as a Horse
and Livestock dealer. He worked among the Amish who had horses with good driving
standards. He owned and operated Foxmoor Farms in New Jersey, mainly in boarding
and sales. He boarded as many as 120 head at a time. It took a lot of hired help
for everything to run smoothly. He then downsized retired to having animals at
home. George was a member of St. Basil's Church in Dushore, Pa., and a life
member of Telecom Pioneers of America, American Legion State Post in Harrisburg,
Pa., and A.Q.H.A., P.S.A and the N.R.A. Surviving George are his spouse, Connie
at home; two daughters, Karen (Shawn) Abernethy of Laporte, Pa., and Kathryn
Knouff of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, David (Kelly) Knouff of Dushore, Pa.;
eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one niece and three nephews. He
was predeceased by his son George III on March 19, 2013; a grandson, Charles
James Arnold; a sister, Kathryn Knouff; and a brother, John Knouff. A mass of
Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at St.
Basil's Church, Dushore, Pa., with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor,
presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil's Cemetery. Arrangements are under the

KUEN Stephen Paul Kuen
58, of Wellsboro,died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Hershey
Medical Center. He was born Feb. 26, 1955, the son of the late Stephen John Kuen
and Catherine Schuessler Kuen. Stephen was employed by Point to Point
Transportation as a driver. Stephen had a great sense of humor, and always had a
story to tell. He was friendly with everyone he met, although his best friends
were his two golden retrievers, "Scooter" and "Chatty." Stephen was passionate
about music and played many instruments. Surviving are his daughters, Jennifer
N. Bones (Ryan) of Denver, Pa., Jillian L. Barone-Kuen of Mansfield; three
grandchildren, Jordyn L. Scholl, Trenton M. Scholl and Abigail J. Bones. Friends

2013, at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center in Brockport, NY. Lois was born on April
8, 1929 daughter of the late John and Sarah Gladys Little. She is survived by
her sons, William (Dawn), Brian (Cindy), and James; granddaughters, Janelle,

Robert L. "Bob" Makin, 82, of Wellsboro, died on Thursday,
Aug. 8, 2013. He was born on Nov. 5, 1930, in Wellsboro, a son of the late
Ernest H. and Velma (Wood) Makin. He was the husband of 59 years of Carol R.
(Bell) Makin and owned Makin's Plumbing and Heating, Wellsboro, for over 50
years. Bob was a member of the Mt. Zion Full Gospel Church, Wellsboro and
enjoyed playing golf, traveling, fishing and going to their cottage on Keuka
Lake. He served in the United States Army National Guard. Bob is survived by his
wife, Carol; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Warren Berg, Cassandra
and Peter Boergermann, both of Wellsboro, brother and sister-in-law, Gene and
Alma Makin of Wellsboro; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Calvin Mosher of
Wellsboro; three granddaughters, Alyssa, Joy and Mikaela Boergerman; many

METZLER Edna Metzler Brunk
86, of Lititz, Pa., formerly of Westfield, and Honey Brook,
Pa.,died on Monday, Aug. 12, at Landis Homes. Born in Manheim, she was the
daughter of the late Harvey and Anna Bucher Metzler. She was married to Leonard
S. Brunk for 60 years. Edna was a follower of Jesus from her youth and was a
devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandma. She enjoyed homemaking and found
great joy in helping her friends and neighbors. Surviving, in addition to her
husband, are two sons, Leon, married to Wendy (Keener) Brunk; Jim, married to
Sandy (Kramer) Brunk; a daughter, Elaine, married to Sid Frey; five
granddaughters, Heidi (Brunk), married to Matt Bane; Melissa (Brunk), married to
Nate Showers; Heather (Brunk), engaged to Joey Calloway; Alyssa (Frey), married
to Michael Peachey; Nikah (Frey), married to Jonny Tice; one grandson, Colton
Frey; seven great-grandchildren. Edna was preceded in death by her sisters,
Esther Martin, Elta Harnish, Grace Stauffer, and Anna Shank. A memorial service
will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 3:30 p.m. from the Erisman Mennonite
Church, 8 S. Erisman Road, Manheim, Pa., with a visitation with the family
beginning at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be private. Donations may be made to the

MINARD Barbara A. Watkins
73, of Ulster Township, Pa., died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013,
at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa. Barbara was born May 22, 1940, in Towanda,
Pa., the daughter of Harry and Betty DeGroff Minard. She was a graduate of St.
Agnes High School in Towanda. In early years, she was employed by the
Ingersoll-Rand in Athens and was later employed by the Guthrie Clinic in Sayre.
Barbara enjoyed traveling, gardening and caring for her pets. Surviving are her
children, Karen Prough (Jeff Sturznegger), Kevin Prough and fiancé Nancy
Wilkins, Barry Watkins and wife Lisa, Amy Ward and husband Anthony, Jason
Watkins and wife Darci; grandchildren, Kattie Lohmann, Charlee Prough, Kirsten
Prough, James Prough, Alex Ward, Amanda Ward, Michael Watkins, Jason Watkins and
Wyatt Watkins; brothers, Richard Minard and wife Carol, Thomas Minard and wife
Audrey, Mike Davis and wife Robin; sister, Lynette; as well as several nieces,
nephews and cousins.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her
husbands, Charles "Butch" Prough in May of 1984, John Watkins in February of
2007; infant grandson, Richard T. Prough in July of 1983; sister, Teresa. A

84, of Odessa, NY, died on August 9, 2013. Born August 8,
1929 to Reuel S. Morse and Roby G. Cotter Morse in East Corning, NY. Bob lived
and worked most of his life in the Ithaca area, where he was the self-employed
owner of Mor-Gas. He graduated from Painted Post HS in 1948. He served in the US
Navy from 1949-1953. He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores J. (Ormsby)
Morse; his three children, Robert A. (Georgia Buchanan) of Verona, NJ, Mary C.
Blakely (Venn) of Westfield, NY, and Cindy S. Marshall (Robb) of Burnt Hills,
NY. In addition, Bob leaves 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is
also survived by his sister, Carol Gallagher of Fort Myers, FL; and his brother,
Alton Morse of Himrod, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob is
predeceased by his parents and brothers, Merle, Walden, Seymour, Gordon, Reuel,
and Reginald. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at the People's
Baptist Church, 364 Main Street in Newfield, NY with calling hours at 1 p.m.
followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's

Age 77, died Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Arnot Ogden
Medical Center. Betsy was born in Mt. Jewett PA on October 21, 1935, daughter of
the late Raymond and M. Maxine (Rafferty) Oakes. In addition to her parents she
was predeceased by her brother Daniel Oakes, brother-in-law Phillip Barnhart and
nephew Phillip Joel Barnhart. Betsy in survived by her husband of 58 years
Robert C. Anderson; daughter and son-in-law, Rae A. and James Terwilliger of
Horseheads with her children Michael Nelson and Lindsay (Eric) Upham; sons and
daughters-in-law, Robert E. and Jacqueline Anderson of Elmira with children
Janet, Heather and James Anderson; Mark A. and Michelle Anderson of Gang Mills
with sons, Alec and Brennan Anderson; great grandchildren, Ryan and Bella Maxine
Upham; sister Sally Barnhart of East Aurora NY with daughter Susan Barnhart.

Betsy was the former owner of Cozy Corner Restaurant. In earlier years she was
an avid bowler. She enjoyed her friends at Gerber's. Betsy's greatest joy was

PALMER Roy W Palmer
age 66, of Big Flats, NY, died on August 6, 2013. Roy was
born December 29, 1946, son of Roy and Lora (Hill) Palmer. He was a graduate of
Horseheads High School Class of 1965 and Hartwick College 1969. Roy served
honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked with the department
of Veterans affairs for over 35 years, most recently in Houston, TX. Roy was an
avid outdoorsman and as a retiree enjoyed hunting and fishing all over the US.
He is predeceased by his brother, Donald and brother-in-law, Patrick. He is
survived by his parents; his children, Cory and Hunter Palmer of Nashville, TN;
sister, Alice Sargent, Mendon NY; brother, John Pisgah, Forest, NC; nieces,
Becky (Rob) Carpenter and Chrissy (DJ) Keough; nephews, Zach, Casey and Devon

PAYNE Anna Frances Payne
died Aug. 14, 2013, after a brief illness. Anna was born
June 27, 1927, to Earl J. Payne and Nellie Frances Sweeney Payne. She was a
graduate of Waverly High School, 1945, and a graduate of Nazareth College
(Rochester, N.Y.), class of 1949. Shortly after college, Ms. Payne returned to
her beloved hometown of Waverly. She worked as a chemist with the Westinghouse
Corporation in Horseheads, N.Y. and retired after thirty five years of service.
She was a lifelong parishioner of St James Church, Waverly, N.Y. Anna Frances
was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Nellie, in addition to her siblings,
Genevieve, Earl, Jr., and Robert Payne. She is survived by her niece, Juliana
(Garth) Payne Wootten and their children, Margaret and Carolyn; her niece,
Jennifer (Patrick Johnson) Payne and their children, Katherine and Liam; and her
devoted cousin, John G. Dugan of Athens, Pa. Her favorite pastimes included
playing cards, golfing and spending time with close friends and family. A mass
of Christian burial will be celebrated by Reverend William Moorby, at 10 a.m. on
Saturday, Aug. 17 at Blessed Trinity Parish, St James Church in Waverly N.Y.
Interment will follow at Saint James Cemetery. As per Ms. Payne's request there
will be no viewing hours. Those wishing may direct memorial donations in Anna

Suit-Kote, of Watkins Glen, NY. Mr. Prior was a member of the Dundee United
Methodist Church, Dundee V.F.W., Dundee American Legion, and the Montour Falls
Moose Lodge. "Bob" was a star catcher for the only D.C.S. Sectional winning
baseball team in 1958; he was an avid sports fan all his life, especially the
Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed cross word puzzles, movies, and socializing with
friends. He is survived and will be missed by two daughters, LeAnne K. Bunn with
whom he made his home, Polly L. (Daniel) Hughes of Tully, NY; a son, Robert K.
(Lora) Prior of Dundee; 10 grandchildren, Andrea, Matthew, and Nicholas Bunn,

SEELEY Mildred L. Porter
95, of Lockwood died Monday, August 6, 2013, at the
Schuyler Hospital. She was born September 5, 1917 in Cayuta, N.Y., the daughter
of the late Sadie Brink and George D. Seeley. Mildred graduated from
Waverly High School, she received her bachelor's degree from Cortland State
Teachers College and her master's degree from Cornell University. She taught
third grade at the Van Etten, New York, Elementary School, and served as
principal there for 11 years until her retirement. Mildred was preceded in
death by her first husband, Howard Sears; her second husband Ellsworth Porter;
her sister Loretta Martin; and her brother George Seeley Jr. Mildred is
survived by her three loving children and their spouses -- David and Deborah
Sears, of Glenwood, N.Y., Marilyn and the late John Porter, of Trumansburg,
N.Y., and Dale and Sibyl Porter, of Altus, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and eight

SHELLEY Brenda K. (Shelley) Brown
age 57, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Monday, July 29, 2013 at
her residence. Born on June 28, 1956 in Wellsboro, PA, she was the daughter of
the late Robert and Faye (Connelly) Shelley. Brenda was a homemaker
who was very artistic and enjoyed sewing. She is survived by three sons and a
daughter-in-law, Jeff Brown of New Oxford, PA, Craig and Venus Brown of Palm
Bay, FL, Zach Brown of Palm Bay, FL; one daughter, Shiloh Yilek of Friendship,

SMITH Frederick (Fred) Wilbert Smith
77, died at the Green Home in Wellsboro on Monday, Aug. 5,
2013. He was born on Feb. 2, 1936, in Mansfield and was the son of the late
Horton V. and Mildred Reynolds Smith. Fred was also predeceased by two brothers
and two sisters. Surviving are his sons, Andrew E. Smith and Eric M. Smith, as
well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Fred was an English teacher
at Canton High School, spent 20 plus years with Putnam Company in Wellsboro,
studied landscaping/horticulture technology in Williamsport and was well known
throughout the northern tier of Pennsylvania for his creative designs and
overall knowledge of plants and trees. Fred was also a very good watercolor
artist. At Fred's request there will not be any calling hours at Carleton
Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to a gravesite burial at Catlin
Hollow Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m., with Father John Chmil of

STRATTON Roy Marshall Stratton
76, loving father and friend died on Thursday, Aug. 8,
2013, at the VA Hospital in Dallas. He was born June 27, 1937 in Middlebury. He
resided in Granbury, Tex., near his daughter, Trish Stratton, for eight years
and was presently employed at Bunker Hill Senior Village in Stephenville, Tex.,
as their maintenance man. Prior to his move to Texas he was a resident in
Addison, N.Y., where he retired from a local newspaper, the Addison Post, and
was an active member in the American Legion and Masons. Roy is survived by his
daughter, Trish Stratton. A small service will be held at her residence Monday,
Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Addison, N.Y. at a later

SULLIVAN Joy Hanlon
age 85, of Odessa, NY died peacefully on Monday, August
5, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Joy was the daughter of the late George
and Thelma Sullivan. Joy will be remembered as fun loving. She enjoyed playing
cards, beautiful flowers, feeding the birds, and being a Brownie and Girl Scout
leader. Joy was an x-ray technician at Arnot-Ogden Hospital and worked for Dr.
Ward in Odessa. She was a wonderful homemaker as well. In addition to her
parents, she was predeceased by her husband William. Joy is survived by her
daughter, Sue (James) Wigglesworth; son, Mike (Laurie) Hanlon; grandsons, Kyle
and Neil Hanlon; sister Kay Anderson; and several nieces and a nephew. Friends
and family may call from 11 AM to 12 PM on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the

TATE George A. Jr.
Age 68 of Horseheads, NY formerly of Wellsville, NY died on
Friday August 16, 2013 at The Arnot Ogden Medical Center after a courageous
battle with cancer. George was born July 14, 1945 in Wellsville, NY the son of
the late George A. and Evangeline Dwyer Tate Sr. Due to the death of George's
parents in August 1951 and February 1952, when he was a child, George was raised
by his uncle and aunt Augustine "Gus" and Gertrude Dwyer Padden. George was
raised with their children as a brother to the Padden children. He graduated
from Wellsville High School Class of 1963 and received his Bachelor's Degree
from SUNY Brockport and his Master's Degree from Elmira College. George was
three credits from completing his Doctorate Degree. He was a Veteran of The
Vietnam War serving his country with The U.S. Army. George married his wife,
Rosalie Anne "Skip" Vosburgh Tate, on January 11, 1974 and they would have
celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary on January 11, 2014. He was a retired
Math and Technology Teacher having retired from The Horseheads Central School
System. He was a communicant of St. Peter & Paul's Church in Elmira, NY and a
Fourth Degree Knight with The Knights of Columbus. George was an avid sportsman
and member of The North Forty Hunting Club and The Huntsville Hilton in
Wellsville, NY, and a member of The Horseheads Elks Lodge # 2297. He and his
wife were former members of The Corning Country Club. George is survived by his
beloved wife Rosalie Anne "Skip" Vosburgh Tate; daughter and son-in-law: Beth

age 60, died suddenly at his home in Snellville, GA on
Wednesday, August 14, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia
(Pat) Bec Thompson; children: Nichole Thompson (Mike) of Corning, NY, Heather
Upton (Don) of Tucker, GA, Matthew Thompson (Erin) of Snellville, GA, Andrew
Thompson (Laurie) of Elmira, NY, Kathleen Thompson of Decatur, GA, Rachel
Thompson of Snellville, GA; grandchildren: Walden Thompson and Kylie Accardi;
sisters: Carol Thompson of Ft. Myers, FL and Margaret Thompson of Chapel Hill,
NC; several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. Larry was
preceded in death by his parents Craig and Lucille Thompson and his brother
David Thompson. A Funeral Service honoring the life of Lawrence will be at 4:00

UTTER Polly Alger
age 79, of Dundee, NY, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at
Schuyler Hospital's Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls, NY.
Polly was born in Rochester, NY, on September 5, 1933, the only child of
Lawrence and Inez (Kendall) Utter. After graduating from high school, Polly
attended Vassar in Poughkeepsie, NY, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in
Education. She then attended Penn State and received a Master’s in Education.
Polly lived for many years in Florida and had several occupations throughout her
lifetime including tutoring and teaching. In 1983 Polly opened the A-Frame
liquor store in Weston, NY, a hamlet near Lamoka Lake and Waneta Lake. In 1987
she and her husband Glen Alger transformed the liquor store into the The A & A
A-Frame Coffee Shop, which she faithfully operated until a couple of years ago.
Polly was very devoted to the A-Frame and her customers. She opened almost every
morning at 5 a.m. for over 25 years and was closed only on Christmas Day. Most
recently Polly operated a visitors center and lending library at the A-Frame.
Polly was very involved with and enjoyed being a part of her local community.
Polly was an avid reader, and education was very important to her. She was a
woman of great faith and enjoyed singing with the choir at the Weston
Presbyterian Church. Polly is survived by her sons, David Parrish and Matthew
(Janine) Parrish, both of California; her daughter, Sarah (Keith) Kreech of
Kentucky; three grandchildren: Erika, Michael and Cairn; several cousins,
countless friends, two cats whom she considered family and an "invisible rabbit
named Harvey". She was predeceased in 1992 by her husband, Glen Alger. Family
and friends are invited to a festive gathering in celebration of Polly's life at
the A-Frame, 494 County Rte 23, Dundee, NY, on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from
11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., hosted by her family. Family and friends are also
invited to a memorial service honoring her at the Weston Presbyterian Church, on
Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Richard Scheid officiating. In

VOUGH Jace Carlton Vough
infant son of John and Michele Vough, 199 Potterville St.,
Rome, Pa., died at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013.
Jace is survived by his loving parents, John Vough Jr. and Michele Ackley Vough;
sister, Kenda Vough; maternal grandparents, Mike and Bethea Ackley; paternal
grandmother, Linda Vough and Mac McGlothlin; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jace was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Vough Sr. in
2005.The Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., is assisting
the Vough family with arrangements. A private memorial service will be held at a

WHITFORD Alice Ruth Kies
age 92 of Clara Street, Corning, NY, died on Wednesday,
August 7, 2013 at Elcor Health Services, Horseheads, NY. Born November 16, 1920
in Avoca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Claude C. and Sadie E. (Gurnsey)
Whitford. Alice and Benjamin Kies were married February 11, 1943; he predeceased
her July 8, 1998. Alice was a graduate of Avoca High School and later from Meyer
Memorial Hospital where she received her nursing degree. Alice worked in
maternity for Corning Hospital, retiring in 1985. Alice was a member of the
Grace United Methodist Church and was involved in a number of committees. She is
survived by son, Richard L. (Adele) Kies of Painted Post, NY; two daughters:
Patricia A. Edger of Corning, NY and Gail M. (Dan Towns) McIntyre of Elmira, NY;
son-in-law: David Walker, Elmira, NY; sisters-in-law: Louise Warren of Painted
Post, Jean Pierson of Hammondsport, NY; grandchildren: Stan Lewek, Sara Parsons,
Ralph McIntyre, Jr., Lawrence McIntyre, Warren McIntyre, Richard McIntyre,
Angela Kies, Amy Billings, Anita Lachut, David Walker and Derek Walker; several
great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, several cousins, nieces and
nephews and special friends: David Whitford, Bryon LaChance, Stanley Lewek and
Ralph McIntyre. In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was predeceased by
daughter, Tina Walker, and brother, Leon Whitford. Family will receive family
and friends at the Grace United Methodist Church, 191 Bridge St., Corning, NY on
Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 10AM to11AM. A memorial service will immediately
follow at the church at 11:00AM. Burial will take place in the family plot at
Chapel Knoll Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements
have been entrusted to Carpenter's Funeral Home, Corning, NY. In lieu of
flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be given in Alice's name to

WHITNEY Richard B. "Dick" Whitney Jr.
83, died on August 9, 2013 at the V.A. Medical Center in
Canandaigua. Richard was born April 28, 1930 in Rome PA., the son of Richard B.
and Alberta Whitney Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War
and was retired from Unisys Corp. in Rochester. He was a member of the Palmyra
V.F.W. and the Turner-Schrader American Legion in Shortsville. Richard enjoyed
traveling, boating, and gardening. He is survived by three sons, Richard
(Alicia) Whitney, Ronald Whitney, and Randy Whitney; and five grandchildren,
Jordan, Richard, Matthew, Justin, and Emily Whitney. Friends may call from 4-7PM
on Monday, August 12 at Halsted-Patrick Funeral Home, 19 N. Main Street,

WHREL Frances Mackiewicz
age 72, of Terrytown Road, Wyalusing, Pa., died on
Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa. Fran was born
in Swoyersville, Pa., on Aug. 30, 1940, a daughter of the late Joseph F. and
Mary Orchak Whrel. She attended Sacred Heart School, in Luzerne, and graduated
from West Side Central Catholic High School in Kingston, Pa., now Bishop
O'Reilly High School. Fran worked at several factories in the area and in
Bristol, Pa. She later worked with her husband Joseph Mackiewicz, who was an
independent claims adjuster at Harvey's Lake. They worked together for 28 years
until their retirement. After retiring they moved to Wyalusing, Pa. Fran and Joe
enjoyed traveling and fishing. She loved ceramic painting and sewing. Fran was a
member of St. Basil's Church, Dushore, Pa., and a member of the Red Hat Turnpike
Gals. Surviving are her spouse, Joseph at home; son, Joseph A. Mackiewicz of
Wyalusing, Pa.; granddaughter, Chelsea Lynn Mackiewicz of Plymouth, Pa.;
grandson, Joseph Michael Mackiewicz of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; several nieces and
nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Caroline Wrhel Petriga of Larksville,
Pa. There will be a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21,
2013, at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, Pa., with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, her
pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil's Cemetery, Dushore, Pa.

2013. Born February 21, 1938, in Bingham Center, PA, he was the son of Charles

former Marie Knauer White, who survives. George and his wife owned and operated
a dairy farm in Bingham Center for many years. He was a member of the Bingham
Center Bible Church. Surviving besides his wife, Marie, are: four sons, Raymond
(Tisha) Young of Genesee, Robert (Brenda) White of Genesee, Benny (Nichole)
White of Port Allegany, PA and Bruce (Denise) White of Lebanon, PA; 13

husband, Thomas, peacefully at home surrounded by family. She is survived by

(Kevin) Rounds, Brent (Melissa) Snow, Jeremiah (Theresa) Snow, Heather (Mark)
Hall, Jason Snow, Ashley Snow, Rachel Wray; 10 great-grandchildren; and
siblings, Bonnie, Jack, and Joan. Gwen was very active in the Methodist Church
and The Eastern Star. She was Mayor of Montour Falls for fourteen years. She
enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will

Scott Funeral Home, Montour Falls, on Sunday, August 18th, from 2 to 4 p.m.
