KING JAMES BAILEY
Westfield Free Press Volume - Thursday, December 29, 1910
James Bailey King, commonly known as Bailey King, a resident of Lakeview, Michigan for the past eighteen years, died at his home in this village Nov. 28, surrounded by his own family, his sister, Mrs. Delia Butler, his brother, Alphonso P. King, some of his friends and his family physican.  Mr. King was one of a large family by his father, James King, Sr., and Lovina Bowman King, and was born July 7, 1855, at Brookfield, Pa. , where this family of twelve children sprang from.   Some of the history of this family of King's is worthy of notice: Godfrey Bowman, the father of this deceased mother , was in the command of Commodore Perry in his famous victory over the British on Lake Erie in 1812, and received a gold medal for his bravery. James King, Sr., was a Rhode Islander, and likewise sprang from the native revolutionary stock dating back to the Mayflower.    The other members of this large family of children are: Ostrander, deceased; Susan, deceased; James A.; Alphonso, resident of Lakefield, Milton, died as a result of injuries in the Civil War; Benson, died from contracting A fever in the late Civil War; Arvilla Crippen , deceased; Arzelia Stebbins, Thompson, deceased; Delia Butler, resident of Lakeview and esteemed with noted degree of celebrity; James Bailey the deceased, and youngest of the family.    It is a pathetic reflection, that out of this happy and noble family of twelve children, but two remain, to weep over the broken columns of ten departed dear ones. It is impossible to foresee the wide and diversified channels into which a happy and contented brood of children may be scattered in  later years, and the sad havoc of the cycle of time which is the inevitable fate so common to us all.    While Bailey did not reach the stage of mediocrity, in the sense of political preferment, he was a noble hearted, generous man and always sought to give his children the best advice. If he ever did an injustice to anyone it was to himself, never to a neighbor. He was familiarly known to a large circle of acquaintances and will be missed in his daily paths of life.   James Bailey King united in marriage with Delia (Perry) King, now deceased. From this marriage was born Jesse James King, resident of Lakeview.  His second marriage was with Mary (McDonald) King, who survives him.  Their children are Lovina and Arvilla who survive the father and reside at Lakeview.
