ROBERT M. DANN age 80 of Painted Post, N.Y. died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 13, 1980 at the Corning Hospital. Mr. Dann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Painted Post and had been an active member of the Painted Post community since 1928. He was a retired farmer and the founder of Dann’s Dairy. He was a co-developer of the Lodge on the Green, Woodland Park and Spring Pond Apartments. Mr. Dann was a 50-year member of Painted Post Lodge F&AM, a member of the Corning Consistory, a senior member of the Corning Rotary Club and a former member of the Corning Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Helen Breese Dann; daughter, Mrs. Virginia Tilden, Locust Valley, Long Island, N.Y.; son, Ronald L. Dann, Painted Post, N.Y.; grandchildren, Robert D. Tilden, Stephen G. Tilden, Mrs. Cynthia Marcus, L. Kevin Dann, Peter G. Dann, C. Matthew Dann and Robert M. Dann II; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Bullock, Glendale, Calif., Mrs. Gladys Chatterton, Lewisburg; brother, Gerald of Addison, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. Private funeral serves were conducted at the family home with the Rev. Marcy Punnett officiating. Interment was in Chapel Knoll Cemetery, Painted Post, N.Y. –Canton Independent Sentinel
NEIL A. DAUBER, 55 Chesterfield Estates, Canton died June 29, 1999 at home. Born May 5, 1944 in Williamsport, PA he was a son of Neil L. and Charlotte L. VanHorn Dauber. Mr. Dauber was a member of the Tiadaghton Trail Riders and the Silver Spurs Riding Club and enjoyed hunting, automobile restoration and NASCAR. Surviving are his fiancée of eight years, Diana J. Williams Twigg; son, Neil A. II, Salladasburg; daughter, Rebecca A., South Williamsport; step-son, Stephen Twigg, Canton RR 3; sister, Joan E. Thompson, Williamsport; brothers, John E., Trout Run, Kenneth E., Cogan Station; grandchildren, Ryan A. and Rachel L., both of Salladasburg and two step-grandchildren. The funeral service was held July 2 from the Sander’s Mortuary, Williamsport with Brother James Bird of Truth Fellowship of Jesus Christ, Canton officiating. DAVIDSON –CECILE R. DAY, 77 of Middle Rd., Barton died on Sunday, May 30, 1993 at the Troy Community Hospital. She was born on Jan. 5, 1916 in Athens a daughter of the late Curtis and Cora Chubbuck Davidson. Cecile took great pride in the outdoors, especially enjoying hunting, fishing and flowers. She also loved to paint and knit. She was predeceased by her step-mother, Katherine Berry Davidson; her husbands: Elby Arnold and Floyd Day; brothers Lemuel and Austin Davidson; sisters, Beatrice Davidson, Pauline Davidson Dildine and Lucy Davidson Barton. She is survived by her daughter and her fiancé, Christine Camer and Timothy Walter of Barton; her son, Donald Eugene Arnold and his wife, Eva Pfeffer, Dover, N.J.; her brothers, Stanley Davidson and Floyd Berry both of Florida; several nieces, among them Lucille Crispell; nephews, cousins and her grandchildren; Sheldon S. Camer, Selene M. Camer, Michael Camer and Tammy S. Camer. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 1993 at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, Main St., Nichols. DAVIS –CHARLOTTE D. FITCH age 93 of Green Valley, AZ, formerly of Valois, NY, died Saturday, October 16, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Clifford Fitch; and son, Kent D. Fitch. She is survived by her son, Charles (Janet) Fitch; and daughter, Linda (and the late William) Roy of Green Valley, AZ; sister, Ellen Davis Blaze of Winterhaven, FL; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Marsh Fitch of Valois, NY; seven grandchildren, David (Kelly) Fitch of Valois, NY, Thomas (Brenda) Fitch of Watkins Glen, NY, Mark (Joann) Fitch of Odessa, NY, Cheryl (Freddie) Pye of Tallahassee, FL, Jennifer (Keith) Marshall of Tucson, AZ, Anita (Christopher) Scata of Odessa, NY, Lynann (Joseph) Materna of Tucson, AZ; and fifteen wonderful and loving great-grandchildren. Charlotte was born September 27, 1911 in Burdett, NY to Benjamin "Harry" and Sadie Howell Davis, the second of nine children. Charlotte was a retired elementary school teacher whose students benefited from her many talents. Her interests were as extensive as her talents and included sewing, cooking / baking / preserving, gardening, reading, cross-word puzzles, golfing and entertaining. In the late 1960's, Charlotte and Clifford began enjoying their winters golfing in AZ, and their summers on the shores of Seneca Lake in Valois, NY. With family and friends in both places, it gave each the feeling of home. Traveling continued to be of great interest to Charlotte throughout her long life. At age 92, on an enjoyable cruise to Alaska, she took her first helicopter ride, and landed on a glacier where she took a dog sled ride. Shortly after returning home, she enjoyed a second cruise to Australia and New Zealand, and experienced her first dune buggy ride. Charlotte, affectionately known to her family as "Gram," will be remembered for her boundless energy and determination to live life to its fullest. Her family and friends express their thanks for her quick wit and humor, kindness, generosity and those wonderful sugar cookies. She was a member of the Valois Community Church, and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. Family and friends will celebrate her life at a service on Saturday, November 6, 2004, in Green Valley, AZ. In the summer of 2005, a memorial service will be held at her home in Valois, NY. DAVIS –DOROTHY J. DEGRAW age 63 of 216 Canal Street, Montour Falls, NY died Monday, October 27, 1997 at Schuyler Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, Montour Falls, NY. She is survived by her children; Laura (Larry) Scruggs of Gloucester, VA, R. Steven Grimes of Montour Falls, NY, Cindy Sage of Odessa, NY and Brian Grimes of Odessa, NY; stepchildren, Marie DeGraw of Orlando, FL and Dough DeGraw of Alexandria, VA; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; brothers, Doyle (Kay) Davis, Levi (Beverly) Davis and Glenn (Shirley) Davis; sisters, Frances (John) Forbes, Agnes (Frank) Wyre, Leona Sandusky and Ellen Misner; mother-in-law, Mrs. Velma Wheeler of NC and several nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. DeGraw was predeceased by her first husband, Bobby David Grimes, second husband, George DeGraw; stepson, David DeGraw and sister, Ruth Sawyer. Mrs. DeGraw was a member of the Montour Falls United Methodist Church and was a Nursing Assistant at Schuyler Hospital for over 17 years. DAVIS –RACHEL DEETS a resident of Riverview Apartments in Johnson City, NY died April 1, 2000 while a patient at Susquehanna Nursing Home. She was born on January 7, 1915. The Deets family resided in Canton for many years prior to moving to Vestal, NY. She was married to Norman E. Deets who preceded her in death in August of 1993. Surviving are a son, Donald (Donna), Statesville, NC; daughter, Joyce Post, Montrose, PA; daughter-in-law, Shelby K. Deets, Webster, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many close and loving friends. Also predeceasing Mrs. Deets was a son, Norman R. “Champ” Deets, October 1993. DAY –DONNA L. KOHLER, 52, Linden, formerly of Roaring Branch died September 18, 1999 at Williamsport Hospital after an extended illness. Born September 227, 1946 at Roaring Branch. She was the daughter of Donald W. and Beverly J. Woodward Day. She was a member of Maranatha bible Church and was a great country music fan. Surviving are a daughter, Tonya L. Kohler, Jersey Shore; brother, Donald E. Day of Roaring Branch; three sisters, Sharon D. Wesneski, Alba and Jean M. Day and Connie R. Rogers, both of Roaring Branch; four nieces and nephews and a constant companion, Charles Kenneth Kohler, Linden. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles N. “Chuck” Kohler, Jr. March 25, 1997. The funeral service was held September 22 at the Knight-Confer Funeral Home with the Rev. John D. Barkley her pastor officiating. Burial was in the Woodward Twp. Cemetery. DAY –INA DAY AVERY, 85 formerly of Dushore died December 10, 2003 at Dar-Way Nursing Home in Estella. Born on July 23, 1918 in Elkland Township she was a daughter of the late Arley and Anna Kaye Day. In September of 1936 she married Gene R. Avery. Her husband preceded her in death in May of 1978. Mrs. Avery has been a lifetime resident of Sullivan County. She was a member of the Redeemer United Church of Christ and was the church organist for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Dushore Book Club, Sullivan County Historical Society and the Sullivan County Cooperative Extension. Mrs. Avery enjoyed time spent sewing, gardening and reading and was a great cook. Surviving are her children and spouses: Ronald S. and Marilyn (Jolly) Avery, Reeders, PA; Jack A. and Marilyn (Hertz) Aver, Pittsfield, MA and Connie A. and Thomas McCarty, Newville, PA; brothers and sisters, Bruce Day, Irene Feaster, Gene Day, Shirley Warburton and Jule Driscoll; seven grandchildren, Gordon Avery, Lourieanne Avery, Alison Avery, Brian Avery, Carol Kump, Amy Schedler and JoAnna McCarty; and a great-grandchild, Maya Aver. Funeral services were held December 13, 2003 in Redeemer United Church of Christ with the Rev. Robert W. Martin, her pastor officiating. Interment followed in Bethel Cemetery. LEON H. DAY, 85 of Forksville RD 1 died Tuesday morning (November 1982) at the Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport, Pa., following a lingering illness. He was born Oct. 15, 1898 in Elkland Township, Sullivan County, son of the late Ardell and Anna Baumunk Day. He was a life-time resident of Sullivan County and had been engaged in the farming industry most of his life. He had also been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Highways and retired as a highway foreman in 1956. His wife, the late Hazel McCarty Day died in 1981. Surviving are for sons; Norman R. of State College, Pa., Kenneth L. of Roaring Branch, Clinton J. of Newberry, Pa. and Harry G. of Montoursville; two daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Teresa) Myers of Montgomery, Pa. and Mrs. Royce (Anna) B. Miller of Lock Haven, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. DeWayne (Myra) McCrossenor of Binghamton, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home in Dushore with the Rev. Daniel Eby, pastor of the Estella Mennonite Church officiating. DAY –LINDA A. BOWEN, 44 of 2344 West Fourth St., Williamsport died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1992 at home. Born Oct. 30, 1948 in Towanda she was a daughter of Clinton J. and Donna M. Sayman Day. She and her husband, Ronnie G. Bowen observed their 24th wedding anniversary on Aug. 17. A 1966 graduate of Williamsport Area High School, she was an insurance rater at Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., where she had been employed for 20 years. A past treasurer of the Lycoming County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Auxiliary, she was also a member of the Keystone Cruisers and Town and Country Cruisers. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Surviving besides her husband, is a brother, Donald C. Day of Selingsgrove. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Maneval’s, 500 West Fourth St., Williamsport with the Rev. Logan Garth Swanger, her pastor officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. DAY –RUTH IRENE DAY FIESTER, 84, Forksville died December1, 2004 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Born on August 8, 1020 in Forksville she was the daughter of the late Arley and Anna Kaye Day. On November 11, 1939 she married H. Warren Fiester. The Fiesters have been married for 5 years. Surviving are six children: Gary (Linda) Fiester, Betty (Duane) Reibson, Lyndon (Joy) Fiester, Rebecca Fiester Adlinger, Joey M. Fiester and Roberta Fiester; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 20 great-grand-children; brothers, Bruce (Agnes) Day, Burgaw, NC, Gene Day, New Albany, Jule (Marvin) Driscoll, Canton and Shirley Warburton, New Albany. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Fiester and by a sister, Ina Avery. A private funeral is being arranged by the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, Dushore. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Bethel Cemetery. RONALD E. DEAN age 47 died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, after a long illness. Ron was born October 13, 1955 in Elmira, a son of Manning & Janice (Strong) Dean. He was predeceased by his father, Manning, in 1969 and a brother, Larry Dean, in 1995. He married Laurie Kershner on July 5, 1980; she survives. He was formerly employed at Dansville Chrysler Plymouth. He was a member of Union Hose Co. of the Dansville Fire Department, the Powers Inn Club and the Dansville Moose. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and Buffalo Bill fan. He is survived by his wife, Laurie; two children, Ronald Dean and Jennifer Dean, both of Dansville; his mother, Janice Dean of Gillette, PA; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Joan Kershner of S. Dansville; four sisters, Connie (David) Kelly of Spring Hill, FL, Diane Murphy and Sherri Dean, both of Gillette, PA, and Laurie (Danny) Joseph of Alpine, NY; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville, where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling. NORMAN R. ‘CHAMP’ DEETS, 56, Webster, NY died on October 30, 1993 while a patient at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY. He was born in Slocum, PA the son of Norman and Rachel Davis Deets. Mr. Deets is survived by his wife, Shelby Wilcox Deets; a son, Norman, Rochester, NY; a daughter, Heather, Sodus Point, NY; a sister, Joyce Post, Brackney, PA; his mother, Rachel, Owego, NY; a brother, Donald, Charlotte, NC and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held November 2 at the United Methodist Church, Webster, NY. He was a graduate of Canton High School, class of 1954, attended Syracuse University and was a graduate of Penn State where he earned a MS Degree. He had been employed in several capacities by Xerox Corporation where he had worked since 1961. For the past tow years he had been on executive loan to the National Center on Education and the Economy and had traveled throughout the United States working with school districts on improving quality in the schools. He was a member of the Penn State Club of Rochester, Nittany Lion Club, Penn State Alumi Association, served from 1976 through 1984 on the Board of Family Services of Rochester, served on the advisory board of the New York State Troopers foundation, was a member of the United Methodist Church of Webster where he served on various committees and also worked with many and varied civic and business organizations. FLOYD ‘GENE’ DEITRICK, 55, husband of Sherry Deitrick of East Main Street, Canton died Thursday evening, March 26, 1998 at the Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport, Pa. following an extended illness. Gene was born Aug. 28, 1942 in Blossburg, Pa. He was a son of the late Floyd M. and Ida Miller Deitrick. Gene was a graduate of Canton High School class of 1960. Shortly following graduation he was employed by the Schrader-Bellows Pant in Canton. Gene was a devoted employee for 31 years and by the time of his retirement in 1991 he worked his way to become the plant manager. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Baecker Deitrick at home; three children and their spouses, Jeff and Carol Deitrick of Enola, Pa., Robin and Luke Spaseff of Etters, Pa. and Larry Deitrick of Canton; four granddaughters, Raechal and Rebecca Deitrick, and Taylor and Amanda Spaseff; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and James Hebe of Portland, Ore., Pearl (Susie) and Ron McNett of Canton and Kay and Mark Jannone of Ogdensburg; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Helen Deitrick of Mansfield, Pa., Melvin (Shack) and Joann Deitrick of Canton and Robert (Chico) and Michelle Deitrick of Canton; nieces and nephews and beloved pets, Tucker and Boogie. In maintaining Gene’s request there will be no calling hours of funeral service. DERR –EMMA G. HELNER, 91 a resident of Sycamore Manor died there Monday May 15, 2000. Born Nov. 23, 1908 in Lairdsville she was a daughter of Elmer and Amelia Whitmoyer Derr. Surviving are two daughters, Constance Steinbacher of Montoursville and Colleen E. Fullmer of this city; two sons, Harry Hawley of Picture Rocks and James R. Hawley of Montoursville; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with the Rev. Roy D. DIBBLE –A. DENISE SMITH, 73, wife of Ned M. Smith Jr. of 27 Kingsbury Ave., Towanda, Pa. died Wednesday afternoon, March 7, 2007, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. Born Dec. 10, 1933, in New Albany, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Rexford Dibble and Iva Hoyt Dibble. Denise was a graduate of New Albany High School and was employed by the payroll department at GTE Sylvania for 40 years until her retirement. Following her retirement from GTE Sylvania she was employed by the Corporate America Credit Union and by H&R Block in Towanda. She was later employed by the Comfort Inn in Wysox, Pa., until declining health no longer permitted her to continue. Denise was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Towanda, the Sylvania Quarter Century Club and the Sylvania Women's Club. Her life encompassed her home and family. Denise enjoyed reading in her leisure time and berry picking. Surviving are: her husband of nearly 52 years, Ned M. Smith Jr., at home; her daughter, Teri L. Smith of Canton, Pa.; grandchildren Brian Smith and his wife, Shaylee, of Towanda and Nicole Woodward and her husband, Brent, of Canton, Pa.; a great-grandson, Brayden Woodward; step-granddaughters, Brittni and Alexis; three brothers, Robert Dibble and his wife, Shirley, of Florida, Francis Dibble and his wife, Janet, of Florida, and Carson Dibble and his wife, Eileen, of Bedford, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard C. Smith, on Oct. 3, 1982, and by a brother, Carlton Dibble. WAYNE F. DIBBLE age 67 of New Albany RR 2 died on Friday, June 14, 2002 at his home. He was born on Feb. 26, 1935 in New Albany a son of the late Herbert and Jane Rinebold Dibble. Wayne had been a lifetime resident of this area. He was a farmer most of his life and a restaurant owner-operator. He and his wife, Doris owned and operated D’s Diner in New Albany. He had a great love for the outdoors, bowling, playing cards and fishing in Canada. He left surviving his wife, Doris Bird Dibble at home; his four stepchildren and their spouses, John and Patricia O’Connor, Bonnie and Lowell Graves, Michael and Noreen O’Connor and Kathy Quail; a nephew, William Dibble of Indiana; a nice, Andrea Carty of Minnesota, 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, William Dibble and by two stepsons, Ned and Pat O’Connor. WILLIAM L. DIBBLE, 62 of Rockville, Ind., formerly of Overton died at 5:53 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born March 9, 1939 in Overton a son of Herbert and Jane Rinebold Dibble. Mr. Dibble was a graduate of Wyalusing High School. He was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and Eli Lilly and Co., Clinton Laboratories, where he was an instrument technician. He was a member of the American Legion Fellenzer Post No. 48, Rockville, AMVETS Post No. 61, Rockville and the Rockville Elks Lodge No. 2471. Mr. Dibble is survived by his wife, Marcia Northcutt Dibble, whom he married March 28, 1992. He is also survived by his son, William W. (Tonia) Dibble of Greencastle, Ind.; daughter, Andrea S. (Alan) Carty of Eden Prairie, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Jennifer R. Cowart of Noblesville, Ind. and Christina R. Husseman of Coatsville, Ind.; brother, Wayne Dibble of Overton; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. ALONZO B. DICKERSON, 90 a Shunk native died October 9, 1990 at Dar-Way Nursing Home, Forksville RD. A retired chief petty officer, Mr. Dickerson was a Navy veteran. He was born March 31, 1900 a son of Lewis and Minnie Dickerson. He is survived by two daughters, Ethelda I. O’Rouke, Woodbridge, VA and Loretta A. Wright, Manassas, VA; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife the former Inza C. Elston on Oct. 3, 1976. The funeral and burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. MALCOLM I. ‘MAC’ DICKINSON SR. 71 of Ulster RR 1, Rome Township, Pa. died Saturday morning, April 1, 2000 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born Feb. 2, 1929 in Mountaintop, Pa. he was a son of the late Robert and Bertha Catherine Hoch Dickinson. “Mac,” as he was known by his many friends, was a graduate of Fairview High School class of 1945. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight engineer and a fire specialist. Mac later graduated from the University of Denver in Denver, Colo., where he received his degree in electrical engineering. He was employed by the Johnsville Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, Pa. for 34 years in research and development and anti-submarine warfare, where he held several patents. While at Johnsville, Mac worked with the first seven astronauts in the U.S. space program and later went into underwater research and development. After his retirement in 1984 he and his wife, Shirley moved to Bradford County, where they purchased the Pine Cradle Lake Campground which they operated from 1983 to 1997. He was a member of the Wysox Presbyterian Church, LeRay Lodge No. 471 F&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Towanda, Williamsport Consistory 32nd Degree, the Bradford County Shrine Club and the Irem Temple Shrine AAONMS, Dallas, Pa. Mac was a member of Towanda American Legion Post No. 42, past commander and adjutant of the Disable American Veterans, Bradford County. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Graham Dickinson at home; a daughter, Katherine M. and Dr. J. Philip Reimherr of Newton, Mass.; a son, Malcolm I. Dickinson Jr. of Newton, Mass.; stepsons, Walter E. Wannemacher of Mason, Ohio and Bradley S. and Regina Wannemacher of Norristown, Pa.; six grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Florence Dickinson of New Port Richey, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Ada Mae and Stewart Krsege of Mountaintop, Pa.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Wysox Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roger Griffith, pastor and the Rev. Harry Ferguson, pastor emeritus officiating. DIEFFENBACH –MARY M. DUNN, 91 of R.R. 2, Colley died June 2001 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Born Nov. 16, 1909 in Colley she was the daughter of William F. and Laura B. Hunsinger Dieffenbach. Mary attended local grade school and graduated for high school in Waverly, N.Y. She received a registered nursing degree from Arnot Ogden Hospital, Elmira, N.Y. She devoted her life to home and family and was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. She did beautiful needlework, loved gardening and was always surrounded by flowers, both inside and outside her home. She was preceded in death in 1973 by her husband, Walter “Farm” Dunn. She is survived by; sons, James of Baltimore, Md. and Fred of Miami, Fla.; daughters, Lucile Kratcoski of Tallmadge, Ohio and Marianne Sharp of Oakton, Va.; sons-in-law, Peter Kratcoski and Robert Sharp; grandchildren, Deborah Ricker, Peter Kratcoski, Philip Dunn, Greg Dunn and Jennifer Cureton; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Chelsea and Madison Ricker, Peter Joseph and Michael Kratcoski. RICHARD L. DIEFFENBACH, 77, Wyalusing, Browntown Mountain died December 30, 2006 at the Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA. Born in Wilmot Township, April 30, 1929 he was the son of the late Richard S. and Helen Munley Dieffenbach. He attended school in Sullivan County and entered the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II when he was 16 years old. Mr. Dieffenbach married the former Helen L. Prichard of Sugar Hill on June 21, 1952. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary last June. He was a lifelong dairy farmer, operating his farm on Browntown Mountain for more than 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved horses. He hunted and fished in his earlier years. Mr. Dieffenbach was a member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Wyalusing. Surviving are his spouse, Helen at home; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Richard Chorba, Dalton, PA and Ann and Jack Trevisan, West Chester, PA; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Jan Dieffenbach, Canton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debra and James Brown, Wyalusing and Rosemary and Harold Renninger, Towanda and several nieces and nephews. DIEFFENBACH –UFRATUS U. MINNIER, 83 formerly of Sullivan County, now of Sunbury RD 2, PA died Saturday morning, Dec. 31, 1988 at the United Methodist Home in LaPorte following a lingering illness. She was born Jan. 23, 1905 in Sugar Hill, Sullivan County, Pa. the daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel Reed Dieffenbach. She had spent most of her life time in the Sullivan County area. In 1967 she had retired after working many years for various sewing factories in Sullivan County. Mrs. Minnier has been a resident of Sunbry for the past nine years. Her husband, the late Henry Minnier died in 1973. She was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Zion Chapel, Dushore. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Velma and Lama Schreffler of Sunbury RD 2; son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Marylou Minnier of Dushore RD 2; brother, Penayo (Nade) Dieffenbach of Batavia, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a son, Arthur in 1942, a daughter, Grace in 1981, a granddaughter, Sheila in 1979, one great-granddaughter, Jennifer, in 1979 and a great-grandson, Graham in 1979. DIEHL –CATHERINE M. CASE, 88 of Lighthouse Point, Fla. died at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and James Barnes of Dushore on Friday morning, Feb. 15, 1991 after a lingering illness. Mrs. Case was predeceased by her husband, William L. Case on Feb. 3, 1969. She was a longtime resident of the Overton-New Albany area and then moved to Lighthouse Point, Fla. Mrs. Case was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church of Deerfield, Fla. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn J. Barnes of Dushore; two stepdaughters, Audrey Benjamin of Sarasota, Fla. and Evelyn Smith of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Isabelle Welsh of Reading and Marguerite McGuire of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Henry T. Diehl of Pompano Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. DILTZ –MARION YOUNG of Dushore died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at the Dar-Way Nursing Home after a lingering illness. She was 87. She was born in Mildred the daughter of the late John S. and L. Blanche Hunsinger Diltz. In 1940, Marion received her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Mansfield State College. She taught at various schools in the Sullivan County School District and retired from the Turnpike School in 1979. After retiring Marion continued to substitute for 10 years. She was a member of the Lutheran Church Women, PSEA/NEA Educators organization for teachers, American Guild of Organists Historical Society. She taught Sunday school for many years. She was married 57 years to Alonzo “Dave” Young who died Sept. 25, 2000. Marion was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and had a great passion for organ music. She started her music career working as co-organist at Trinity Lutheran Church, Zion Chapel, Oct. 27, 1935. She played for numerous weddings, funerals and served under 11 pastors and three hymnals. She was awarded a certificate for 50 or more years of service to church music by the National Federation of Musicians. She continued as substitute organist for the Trinity and St. John’s as well as other churches in the Sullivan-Bradford County areas. She also played at special services at the Old Zion Chapel. Marion worked with both the junior and senior choirs until her retirement Dec. 31, 1995. She is survived by a son, John C. (Jane M.) Young of Dushore; two daughters, Naomi (Richard) Miller of Racine, Wis. And Louella (Ed) Dunn of Nilford, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Seth Miller, Erin (Eric) Kuehl, Jennifer (Roland) Hosch, Rachel (Ryan) Shenk, Todd Young; five great-grandchildren; two cousins, Bill Diltz and Mary Neer and several nieces and nephews. DONNELLY –PATRICIA (DONNELLY) FRANKS age 74 of Mainesburg, PA died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the Green Home in Wellsboro, PA. She was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Donnelly. Following her graduation from high school, Patricia began working and remained focused on her immediate family. She was very active in the Catholic Church, a faith that enabled her and the family to cope with difficult decisions over the span of her life. Patricia was an avid gardener and animal lover; she saw beauty in everything and the purpose that God had meant for things to be while here on earth. She enjoyed reading as a whole, engrossing herself in History and keeping current on political affairs. Patricia was a totally giving person, achieving her BA degree from Mansfield University, where, after raising her own children, she worked both with children and adults who were handicapped. She had dedicated her life to learning and following the Christian model, giving and caring to others more so than she would to herself. Patricia has touched many lives over the span of 75 years and leaves behind those who knew, loved and cared for her. She will be laid to rest having been placed in Earth as God's servant, achieving his purpose and completing her task as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Patricia is survived by her husband, Robert; son, John (Diana) Vernon of Bath, MI; daughter, Cathleen Vernon of Mechanicsburg, PA; grandchildren, Giovanni and Erica Vernon of Bath, MI and John Thomas of Mechanicsburg, PA. RAYMOND LAWRENCE DONOVAN, 53 of the Senior Citizens Building, Towanda died Tuesday Feb. 18, 1997 at his home. Born Nov. 13, 1943 in Sayre, Pa. he was a son of the late Charles C. and Mildred J. Fenton Donovan. Ray attended the Towanda schools and was employed at the Masonite Corp. in Wysox for 13 years. He was also employed at the coal mines and the shoe factory in Mildred and the Rynveld Wreath Co. in New Albany. Ray was a member of the National Rifle Association. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. JAMES W. DRAKE – On the morning of March 26, 2002 longtime Towanda resident James William Drake, 55 died quietly at Robert Packer hospital after a brave bout with cancer. Born in Towanda on April 3, 1946, he was one of six children in the family of Henry and Margaret Earls Drake. He had been employed by the former Lehigh Valley Railroad and later with the Borough of Towanda until prevented by his physical condition. Mr. Drake was a member of the Towanda VFW Post as well as the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards and was an avid bingo player. Most of all, he enjoyed the company of his beloved family, serving as host of numerous family cookouts and outings. He had a quick wit and a prankster sense of humor, which endeared him to all who knew him. Surviving are his stepfather, Richard Lublin, Sr.; brother, Irvin Drake, Franklindale; half-brother, Richard Lublin, Jr., Towanda; sister, Gloria Lane, Franklindale as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins; his lifelong friend, Robert Fenton. DRICK –RUTH A. METZGER, 84, Pennsdale, PA died on October 9, 2004 at the Muncy Valley Hospital after being stricken at home. Born on July 21, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Drick. She was the wife of the late Floyd Metzger, who died March 11, 2003. They had celebrated 54 years of marriage. She and her husband had been life long dairy farmers retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. James Lutheran (White Church), Pennsdale and the church’s ladies Chi Rho group. CHARLES F. ‘CHUCK’ DRIESBAUGH, 64 of Monroeton RR 1 died Saturday evening, Feb. 28, 2004 at his home. Born Jan. 30, 1940 in Sayre he was a son of the late John Henry Driesbaugh and Flora Kasson Driesbaugh. Chuck, as he was known by his family and friends attended SRU High School. He was employed by Rynone Industries in Waverly, N.Y. from 1958 until the time of his death. On June 2, 1962 he married the former Jean Frost at the Ulster United Methodist Church. Chuck was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 2191, Towanda. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed driving stock cars at the former Towanda fair grounds during the 1950s and 60s, NASCAR, camping and snowmobiling. MR. GENE HOWARD DRISCOLL, 69 of Summerfield, N.C. died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 in Florida. A memorial service for Mr. Driscoll will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday Jan. 28, 2003 at Summerfield United Methodist Church. A native of Cherry Township, Mr. Driscoll was born on Jan. 9, 1934, the son of Howard and Elizabeth Kast Driscoll. He was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in mechanical engineering and was retired from the Ingersoll-Rand Co. with 29 years of dedicated service. He was also chairman of Air Components Systems Ltd. in Charlotte, N.C. and instrumental in the founding of two other businesses. Mr. Driscoll was a member of four Masonic lodges. KATHLEEN C. DRISCOLL of 15 Johnson Street, Waverly, NY died on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa., after an extended illness. Born in Morris Run, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Frances McIntyre Driscoll. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Waverly, the Legion of Mary, the Altar/Rosary Society and was always very active in the functions of St. James Church. She enjoyed Irish Music. She was a graduate of Elmira Business School. She had been employed at the Blue Swan in Sayre, Pa. She retired from the accounting department at IBM, Owego after many years. She is survived by one brother-in-law Al Kraus, Waverly; one niece, Mary (Randy) Benjamin, Waverly; nephews John (Patty) Kraus, W. Springfield, Mass., William (Ann) Kraus, Joseeph and Michael Kraus all of Waverly; numerous grand nieces, nephews and cousins; a special friend Sister Teresina, Rochester, NY. DRISCOLL –MARGUERITE FAY PARDOE age 71 of Dushore RR 4, Forks Township died on Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda. She was born on Sept. 19, 1929 in New Albany a daughter of the late Fred and Harriet McCarty Driscoll. Marguerite spent her entire lifetime in Sullivan County and was a member of the Living Hope Fellowship Church in Estella, Pa. In June 2001, Marguerite and her husband, Carl Pardoe would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. CLAIR DRUMMOND, 74 of Dushore, Pa. died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 1994 at the Dushore Hotel where he had resided for over 20 years. Clair was born Sept. 11, 1920 in Dayton, Pa. son of the late Wade Alfred and Augusta Ayers Drummond. He graduated from the Dayton High School, class of 1939. Clair enter the U.S. Army during World War II and became an Army Air Force mechanic and later graduated from flight school as a pilot. He also flew combat missions during the Korean Conflict and retired as a 1st Lieutenant after 17 years of service to his country. Surviving are his brothers: Robert Thomas Drummond of Williamsport and Alfred Drummond of Dayton, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Marie Walburn of Dubois, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Clair was predeceased by two brothers, Dale and Alvin and a sister, Olive. A private memorial service will be held at the North Point Cemetery, North Point, Pa. at the convenience of the family. HAROLD E. DUNBAR, 81 of 904 East Eighth St., Erie died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 1990. Born in Troy he was a son of Homer and Lizzie Hawthorne Dunbar. He served as a merchant seaman during World War II. At the time of his passing, Mr. Dunbar and his wife owned and operated the Herman Awning Co. in Erie. He is survived by his wife, Irene; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Shirley Dunbar; stepdaughters and husbands, Vera and John Pate, Audrey and Charles Bayhurst and Tom and Dolores Hayes; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all of Erie. He is also survived by two sisters, Eloise Shook and Margaret Billingsley, both of Troy, a brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Christine Dunbar of Troy and a special loyal friend, Rick Moore of Erie. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Shirley Rainey and his brothers, Orrin and Amasa. HARRY R. DUNBAR age 66 of Sullivan Terrace in Dushore passed on Jan. 17, 2004 at Memorial Hospital of Towanda. He was born on Aug. 12, 1937 in Troy a son of the late George and Martha Fuller Dunbar. Harry attended Troy High School and he was a veteran having served in the United States Army. For most of his life he was engaged in dairy farming and was most recently employed by Epler Farms. He was a member of the New Albany V.F.W. and he enjoyed his time spent painting pictures and also time in the out-of-doors fishing. He is survived by his former wife, Anna Ammerman Dunbar; three daughters and a son-in-law; Jamie and Dennis Douglas of Rome, Tina Dunbar of New Albany and Bonnie Dunbar of York, Pa.; a brother, James Dunbar of New Albany and sister; Flora Snook of Towanda and by six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl and Carl Dunbar and by a sister, Rose Vanburan. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at 7 p.m. in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore. Friends and family are invited to call on Monday evening from 6 p.m. until the time of the memorial service. DUNBAR –HELEN A. SECHRIST, 88, cranberry Twp., PA formerly of Woodbridge, NJ died at Sherwood Oaks Skilled Care December 13, 1996. She was born on May 19, 1908 in Alba to the late Willard and Florence Cosper Dunbar. Mrs. Sechrist was a retired elementary public school teacher, member of the First Congregational Church of Woodbirdge, NJ. She is survived by one son, John H. Sechrist of Upper St. Clair. Preceding her in death were her husband, Harry Sechrist, who died October 23, 1976 and three brothers; Ivan, Percy and Clifford “Dick” Dunbar. MALCOLM D. DUNKLEE retired Army CW4, 65 of El Paso, Texas died on June 4, 1994 after a brief battle with lung cancer. Malcolm was born in Wyalusing, Pa. on March 3, 1929 to the late Elanson and Gladys (Bahr) Dunklee. He graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1947 and enlisted in the United States Army later that year. While in the Army he served in Korea and also did a tour of duty in Germany. After a long career in the Army, Mr. Dunklee retired in 1975 with the rank of CW4. After retiring from the Army, Malcolm received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at El Paso. He was employed as a quality control supervisor at GTE and Siemens until his retirement in May of 1989. He spent his remaining years dividing his time between the mountains of New Mexico and the golf courses of El Paso, finding time to frequently visit with family and friends across the country. Malcolm Dunklee served his country for 27 years with great dignity. He was a devoted his husband and father and loved to spoil his dogs and his grandchildren. He touched so many lives and he will be greatly missed. He was a member of the American Legion Paso Del Norte Post 58, The Retired Officers Association and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also very active in his community organizations in New Mexico, where he loved to plant trees, feed the birds and explore the woods with his wife and friends. Mr. Dunklee is survived by his wife of 47 years, Norma (Dibble) Dunklee, also formerly of Wyalusing; children, Terrence and his wife, Kathy of N. St. Paul, Minn., Diane Dunklee Paiva and her husband, David of Mililani, Hawaii, Karen Dunklee Hadden of Austin, Texas, Larry Dunklee and his wife, Michelle of Grand Forks, N.D. and Ronald Dunklee and his wife, Amy of Houston, Texas/ grandchildren, Melissa, Devin, Luke, Anna, Timothy, Garrett, Kristin and Ryan. Other survivors include a sister, Gainora Staley of Ocala, Fla. and brothers, Don Dunklee and wife, Fran of Laguna Hills, Calif., Keith Dunklee and his wife, Leona of Hyattsville, Md., Dale (Satch) and his wife, Florence (Flip) of Sugar Run, and Kirk Dunklee and his wife, JoEllen of Masapequa, N.Y. DUNN –TERESITA (TESSIE) KOLESAR, 24 of Roulette died July 5, 2002 as a result of a vehicle accident on Seymour Road, Roulette Township. Born July 28, 1977 in Coudersport she was the daughter of Gary E. and Brenda S. Rohrer Dunn, Jr. She was a 1995 graduate of Wellsboro High School and graduated with an executive secretary’s degree from the Pennsylvania College of Technology, North campus in Wellsboro. She was employed as a customer service representative with Adelphia Cable Co. in Coudersport. Mrs. Kolesar was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Port Allegany and the Coudersport Community Chorus. She enjoyed music and animals. Her grandfather, Clyde Rohrer preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband, Victor whom she married on December 8, 1998 in Wellsboro; her parents; a brother, Gary E. Dunn, III, Wellsboro; grandparents, Ellie Rohrer, Gary E. and Maribelle Dunn, Sr. all of Coudersport; great-grandmother, Agnes Brown, Canton; step-grandmother, Emma Dunn, Hartford, CT; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Services were held July 11 at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Port Allegany with the Rev. Bernie Knefley of St. Mary’s officiating. Burial followed in Sweden Hill Cemetery. EDWARD ‘POPEYE’ DYER, 68 of 716 Main St., Towanda died Monday morning, July 12, 1993 at the Troy Community Hospital following a heart attack. Born Aug. 18, 1924 in Troy he was the son of Lena May Smith Dyer and the late John M. Dyer. Mr. Dyer worked as a newspaper delivery man for The Daily Review in Towanda for many years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No.1490 of Waverly. Mr. Dyer was well-known in the Towanda area and possessed many friends. He is survived by his mother, Lena Mae Dyer of Towanda; two sisters, Anna Johnson of Towanda and Mildred Dyer of Wysox and a niece, Marie Peters of Athens. He was preceded in death by his father, John and by a brother, Ralph and a sister, Bertha Dyer. A memorial service will be held at a later date. EASSON –BARBARA JOAN (EASSON) COMFORT of Horseheads, NY age 75 joined our Lord after a lengthy illness on the evening of February 5, 2001 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was born in Elmira on October 17, 1925 to Eric & Carrie Easson. She attended Elmira Catholic High School in the neighborhood, where her family lived. She married the late Robert "Buzz" Edgar Comfort of Horseheads on December 4, 1945. She is survived by daughters, Linda Craig of Huntsville, Alabama and Mary of Horseheads and sons, Raymond of Edisto Beach, South Carolina and Robert of Cortland, NY and grandchildren, Erin, Donald, Raymond, Robert M., Robert E., Cassondra, and Sarah and great grandchildren Davin and Ashton. She is also survived by sisters, Caroline Harris of Hollywood, FL, Mary "Betty" Jones of Millerton, PA, Ruth Huyler of East Syracuse, NY, Jane Liddy of Millport, NY, brother, Edward Easson of Elmira, NY and sister-in-law, Caroline Evans of Rochester, NY. She was also blessed by a wonderful friendship of her son-in-law, Steve Robbins. She lived life as a mother and homemaker on Union and Chemung Streets in the Village of Horseheads. After the death of her husband in February of 1978, she lived many years in the Villa Serene in Elmira Heights, where she became involved with volunteer hospice work for the Arnot Ogden Hospital. Throughout life, she was deliberate and faithful in her care for numerous infirmed and homebound family members, friends and people she befriended through her volunteer work. She was a Christian and enjoyed a quiet and person relationship with Our Heavenly Father. It was at her request that no services or calling hours would be held. An interment service will be held sometime in the future at the convenience of the family. CHARLES J. ‘CHUCK’ ECKMAN, 47 of Kailua, Hawaii died on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000 at the St. Francis Medical Center, Honolulu while surrounded by his family. He was born in Troy on Dec. 31, 1952 the son of Marjorie Hickok and the late Charles A. Eckman. Chuck grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1970. Chuck traveled throughout the country, working many years in the construction business. He eventually worked his way up to a project superintendent for Bodell Constructors in Hawaii. Chuck’s family and friends were very important to him. He always made time to support them in any way possible. Chuck loved his work, enjoyed nature and was active in may outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed hiking the beach and kayaking with his beloved dog, Cain. He is survived by; his wife, Christine at home; a son, Ryne Eckman of Minnesota; his mother, Marjorie Hickok of Canton; a brother, Allen “Punk” Williams of Canton; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sharon and Willard Herbert of Hughestown, Pa, Carlene Vanaman of Tampa, Fla., Connie and Bruce Cutler of Lyons, N.Y. and Bena Clark of Canton; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends. AUGUST L. ‘SONNY’ EDKIN, 72 of 1317 Lose Ave. went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 21, 2003 in the Williamsport Hospital where he was admitted July 14. He and his wife, the former Marthena H. Conard observed their 39th wedding anniversary on Feb. 14. Sonny was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a former part-time sexton. He was a past member of the Williamsport and Loyalsock Garden Clubs, a member of the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming Co., John F. Laedlein Lodge 707, F&AM, the Williamsport Consistory and was a 32nd degree Mason. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing and gardening. Sonny was a former co-owner of A & A Auto Alignment and Body Shop and owner of Sonny’s Appraisal Service and S & E Auto Body. He taught auto body repair and painting at the former Williamsport Area Community College for a few years. Born July 14, 1931 in Williamsport he was a son of August L. and Jennie May Hoffman Edkin Sr. Surviving besides his wife are daughters, Candrus D. (Steve) Tallman of Cogan Station and Paula M. (George) Hutman of Beaver; sons, Steven L. of Kansas, David W. of Missouri, Jeffrey of Oklahoma and Kristopher of Germany; brothers, Robert and John, both of Salladasburg; sisters, Evelyn Gramley and Barbara Guinter, both of Williamsport; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. DONALD R. EDKIN, 61 of Hillsgrove died Wednesday Nov. 29, 1995 in Rose View Manor as a result of complications due to a fall. He was a resident of the manor since March. He and his wife, the former Glenna A. Baumunk observed their 38th wedding anniversary June 29. Retiring in 197 he was a self-employed building contractor and a past president and executive officer of the West Branch Home Builders Association. He served as a tax assessor for Sullivan County until 1987. He was a member of Hillsgrove Fire Co. and served in the Marines for 14 years and Navy Seabees for five years. He was a member of Hillsgrove Union Church. Born Feb. 9, 1934 in Glen Mawr, he was a son of Frank and Ruby Montague Edkin. Surviving besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Donna L. Missigman of LaPorte and Mrs. Diane M. Clem of Hillsgrove; a sister, Constance Campbell of Hillsgrove and a granddaughter, Brett Green. ELLIOTT –EMMA KATHRYNE ELLIOTT WREN age 77 of Chemung View Apartments, Athens fell asleep in Jesus’ arms on Saturday, June 19, 1999 at the Bradford County Manor with family by her side. She was born in Athens, Pa. August 22, 1921, the daughter of Pearly and Ahrena Burgess Elliott. Her loving husband of 55 years, Merlin predeceased her on February 28, 1995. They were married in Penn Yan, N.Y. on November 17, 1939. Emma was a loving mother and grandmother who was known for her love of baking and cooking. She worked for many years as a nurse’s aide and cook. Locally she was employed by O’Briens Inn and the Sayre House. She also made and sold many beautiful wedding and special occasion cakes. For the past 14 years she and Merlin lived at Chemung View Apartments in Athens. There she possessed a host of friends with whom she enjoyed many events. She also was a volunteer for 15 years at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. This brought her much enjoyment. She is survived by five children; Arda (Jean) and Phil Nesbit of Silver Springs, N.Y., Norma and Gene Peters of Athens, Pa., Francis (Sonnie) Wren of Fulton, Texas, Judy and Cary Shults of Spencer, N.Y., Steve and Gina Wren of Waverly, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; Debbie Adams, Jim De Groff, Don De Groff, Jimmy Peters, Jerry Peters, Ahrena Peters, Judy Peters, Candy Chandler, Reese Wren, Merlin Wren, Teresa Wren, Scott Bradley, Sgt. ELLIS –HILDA M. WHEELER, 811 of Waverly Road, Barton, N.Y. and formerly a resident of the Towanda Senior Citizens Building died Saturday, July 20, 20002 after a courageous battle with cancer. Hilda was born May 16, 1921 in Bradford County a daughter of the late James and Lillian Ellis. She was devoted to her family and always looked forward to gathering for dinner with them each Sunday. KEVIN M. ELLIS, 38, Gillett, died September 22, 2003 as a result of an accident. Born on July 18, 1965 he was the son of Charles and Rose (Robinson) Ellis. He was a loving husband, father and son. He enjoyed watching his children play sports and he very much loved caring for his youngest son, Ben. Mr. Ellis was a member of the Sayre Wesleyan Church and served in the Marine Corps as a Lance Corporal. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and raising sheep. DICK ENGLISH age 69 of RD #4, Westfield, PA, Sunday July 13, 1997 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY. He was born August 10, 1927 in Morris, PA the son of Rudolph & Iva M. McCracken English. He was a self-employed contractor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in the Pacific during WW II. EVANS –EDNA MAE “WILLIAMS” HAGIN age 82 of 216 Canal St., Montour Falls, NY formerly of Odessa, NY entered into God’s care on Friday evening, September 18, 1998 at Schuyler Hospital, Montour Falls, NY. Mrs. Hagin is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law; Carol-Lee & Charles Cisco of Richardson, TX, Kathleen J. & Steven Kelley of Midlothian, VA, Rose-Anne & Matthew Glassen of Waco, TX, Helen B. Morris of Corning, NY, Eleanor M. & Richard Lattin of Montour Falls, NY and Frances W. & Chip Vickio of Millsboro, DE; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Numerous other relatives and many close friends. She was predeceased by her husbands, Leon Williams and Merel Hagin, brother, Francis G. Evans and son-in-law, Larry H. Morris. Mrs. Hagin was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Montour Falls, NY and the Women of St. Paul’s. She along with her husband, Leon operated the William’s Sweet Shop in Odessa, NY for many years. Mrs. Hagin was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cole-Hansonberger-Deland Post, Odessa, NY and Chat-a-White. PAUL H. EVANS, SR., 59, longtime resident of Canton RR 2, (Union Twp.) died at the home while surrounded by his loving family July 2, 1998 following a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 6, 1939 in Ogdensburg, he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Lila Lewis Evans. He graduated from Canton High School, class of 1957. On Feb. 1, 1958 he married the former Carol M. Wilson in the Ralston Methodist Parsonage. In 1960 he began employment at (Canfords) Canton Manufacturing and served as a technical supervisor until 1995 when failing health no longer permitted him to continue. Mr. Evans was well known throughout the area and will be affectionately remembered by his nick names “Ugly” and “Slug” which he acquired from family and friends. A sports enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, muzzle loading, golfing and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys Football team. He also enjoyed bird watching. Memberships include: Ogdensburg Church of Christ, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Canton Lodge No. 429, Hillside Rod and Gun Club, Blossburg, Deer Crossing Detachment of Marine Corps League, Ralston, Red Run Rod and Gun Club, Ralston and was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club. EVANS –PHYLLIS ‘SALLY’ DUNBAR, 58 of Rome, Pa. was surrounded by her loving and devoted family as she made her journey into her heavenly home on Friday evening, May 5, 2000. Sally as she was known to all who knew her was born Jan. 21, 1942 in Towanda, Pa. a daughter of the late Jacob and Margaret (Williams) Evans. For several years Sally was a certified nurse’s aide at the Tioga Nursing Facility in Waverly, N.Y. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors. Sally is survived by her husband, Edwin L. Dunbar; her daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Michael Dunbar of Warren Center, Pa., Cindy and Doug Thetga of Rome, Pa. and Terry and Joseph Krager of Rome, Pa.; a son, Douglas “Buddy” Miller of Windham; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Alice Evans, John and Louise Evans, Ronnie and Judy Evans, Denny and Tammy Evans, Eugene Evans and Ollin and Phyllis Evans; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Bill Dunbar, Penny and Chucky Dunbar and Phoebe and Charles McManus; grandchildren, Lois, Patricia and Michael Dunbar, Erick Skinner, Matthew and Mark Thetga and Amber, Andi, Daniel, Nika and Nathan Krager; a great-granddaughter, Destiny Rose Horton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. ROBERT W. EVANS age 65 of LeRaysville, Pa. died at his home in the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002. He is the husband of Alice Evans. He was born on July 16, 1937 in Orwell Township a son of the late Margaret Williams Evans and has been a lifelong resident of Bradford County. He is a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean conflict. On May 9, 1973 he married the former Alice Lyman Evans in Wysox, Pa. THEODORE R. EVANS, 82 of Wysox RD 2, Wysox Township, formerly of Levittown, Pa. died early Friday morning, July 1, 1988 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Born Aug. 10, 1905 in Forty Fort, Pa. he was the son of David A. and Eleanor VanHorn Evans. Mr. Evans was employed by the Local Union 163 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for many years. He was a member of the Harriman United Methodist Church in Bristol, Pa. for 30 years, a life member of the Naval Masonic Lodge No. 4 F. and A.M. and Almas Temple of Washington, D.C. Mr. Evans and his wife, Florence have been residents of the Wysox area since December 1986. He is survived by his wife, Florence Blight Evans; a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Margaret) Dail of Wysox; three grandchildren, Linda Kelly and Mark Dail, both of Denver, Colorado and Wendy Wilson of Levittown, Pa.; a sister, Emma Everett of Ft. Pierce, Fla. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral and committal service will be held Tuesday, July 5 at 8 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda with the Rev. Rebekah Sweet, pastor of the Rome United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 o’clock. Union Masonic Lodge No. 108 F and A.M. Aug. 11, 1906 at Danville, Pa. She was predeceased by her husband,
George and a son, Elwood. She is survived by daughters, Betty West
of Granville Summit, Grace Lathrop of Vancouver, Washington, Mrs. Carl
(Dot) McCarty of Pensacola, Fla.; sons, Dennis of Oregon and Edward of
Missouri. Also surviving is a brother, Harold Ewertt of Danville.
