LIBERTY WOMEN IN FIGHT WITH WILDCAT
Liberty, Sept. 2.- Mrs Leon Ostrom, of R.D. 3, recently missed two
large ducks from her flock. The following morning, hearing a commotion
in the direction of a pond , she ran toward it and saw a wild cat
swimming to the shore, carrying one of the ducks.Securing a club, she ran
toward it, as it emerged from the water. The cat escaped with the duck,
to the woods and went under a log. Mrs. Ostrom, nothing daunted, then got
a sharper stick and followed. This she placed on top of a visible
portion of the animal and bearing down upon it caused the cat to drop the
duck and turn on her. She succeded by a well "direct blow" in stunning
the animal and finally killing him. Not until then did she realize the
danger she been in as the animal was more than twice as large as a big
house cat with cruel claws and teeth, while the duck was badly torn, she
thinks that she can saves its life.
Dear Joyce, In reading the recent submission from Esther MAYS Harer
on the scrapbook of Ida Harer, there is a correction that should be made
if possible. the obituary clipping that reads Myrtle Schanbacher Gardner
in the first 1/4 of the article, should read Myrtle Schanbacher Gleckler,
The reason that I know this, she was my maternal grandmother. Thanks Gary
