AISENBERG Randy Alan Of Elmira, NY Was born June 11, 1953 in Binghamton, NY, the son of Bernard Aisenberg and Nora (Sherwood). Randy died peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center at the age of 52. He is survived by his loving mother, Nora Knapp and stepfather, Robert Knapp of Elmira, NY; father, Bernard Aisenberg of Harbor City, CA; daughter, Shannon Keach, formerly of Big Flats, NY; two grandchildren; sisters, Fawn (John) Pavlina of Big Flats, NY, Suzette Miller of Myrtle Beach, SC; niece, Katelin Cornwell; nephews, Ryan (Brandy) Pavlina and Ian Pavlina; along with several aunts and uncles. Randy was a graduate of the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute, Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to his extended illness, his passions included cooking, his dog 'Harley', riding motorcycles and Native American History. At his request there will be no prior calling hours. WILLIAM MURRY ‘PAPPY’ ALEXANDER, 86, Roaring Branch RR 1, for the past 21 years, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, died August 17, 1994 at the Williamsport Hospital. He was born on June 2, 1908 in Roaring Branch, a son of William H. and Margaret E. Sechrist Alexander. Pappy retired as a pressman for Moore Business Forms, Niagara Falls; was a member of the Red Run Rod and Gun Club, Roaring Branch, the Hillside Rod and Gun Club, Blossburg and LaSalle Sportsman Club, Niagara Falls. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty J. Ferguson, Erie, PA, Nancy and Gerald Reid, Ransomville, NY, Patricia and Robert Mort, Niagara Falls, NY; three sons and daughters-in-law, William F. and Jean Alexander, N. Tonawanda, NY, James and Alice Alexander, Roaring Branch, and David P. and Janice Alexander, Grand Island, NY/ 26 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mary Alexander, Sanborn, NY and two sisters-in-law; Esther Alexander, Buttonwood and Bernadine Alexander; Williamsport, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Newton Alexander in 1976 and a son Kenneth Alexander in 1983. Funeral services were held August 19 from the Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, Liberty. Interment was in Steam Valley Cemetery, Cogan Station Township, Lycoming Co. ALLEN Edwin W. Age 57, of Apt. #304, Riverside Manor, Westfield, PA, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at his residence. He was born May 29, 1948 in Blossburg, PA, the son of John and Rachel Jones Allen. He was a graduate of Cowanesque Valley High School and he attended the Westfield Baptist Church. At one time Edwin was a member of the Corning Fire Department and the Crary Hose Co., Westfield, PA. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Shirley Allen, Williamsport, PA; sisters, Martha Goodman, Rochester, NY, Esther Allen, Rochester, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Craig Arms, Belleville, IL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. ALQUIST Fritz A. Age 78 of Erin, NY died Monday, April 3, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. Fritz was born in Milton, PA, son of the late Johannas and Anna Alquist. Fritz retired from F. M. Howell Inc. after many years of service. Survivors include his wife, Marion (Robinson) of 43 years; daughters, Tina Webb of Portland, OR, and Tammie (Roger) McGloin of Brooklyn, NY; son, Arthur Alquist of NC; many grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Stevens of Ontario, NY; special friends, John and Reggie Sheridan of Breeseport, NY. ARNESEN John Cornell University Graduate Age 66, died on Friday, March 31, 2006. He was born March 26, 1940 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Sigurd and Margaret (Thompson) Arnesen. He was a graduate of Cornell University and former owner of Cycle City in Dryden, NY. His unconventional life and wisdom, wit and sarcasm will be missed by Margaret Harris Arnesen; his children, Erik, Brent, Kirsten and Hope Hughes; grandson, Derek; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Rose Arnesen; nephews, Rich and Mark Kay and Dean and Cliff Arnesen. John asked that we not be saddened by his death as he had fulfilled every dream and desire that he could imagine. BAUMGARTNER Harold "Opa" R. Age 66, of Beavercreek, died on
Monday, April 17,
2006, at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born to the late Kenneth O. and
Martha E. Baumgartner in Elmira, NY. He is preceded in death by his brother,
Sonny Baumgartner; and sister, Twila Zimmerman. He is survived by his wife of 44
years, Judy Baumgartner; son, Kenneth M. (Cynthia) Baumgartner; daughters, Tina
M. Baumgartner, Heidi A. (Stephen) Ellis, Cheryl L. (Buddy J.) Schneider;
grandchildren, Kenneth, Jamie, Greggory, Daniel, Krista, Andrew, Brooke, Brandi;
sisters, Virgie (Pete) Matheny, Mildred (Ray) Austin, Ida (Phil) Beard;

BLOOD John E., Jr. Age 73, of Albemarle County, VA, died on Sunday, April 2, 2006, at a local nursing home. He was born October 31, 1932 to the late John E. Blood, Sr., and Lillian B. Slawter in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He spent his early years in Richboro, PA (Bucks County), Atlantic City, NJ, and the Jersey Shore. Mr. Blood proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, and Mansfield University. He was certified during his life as an EMT, Auctioneer, Border Patrol Officer, and a Radio Telecommunications Officer with the Armed Forces and the U.S. State Department. He worked as a gentleman farmer, salesman, entrepreneur, antique dealer, and the pinnacle of his life experience, he served with the Central Intelligence Agency as a member of the Delta Force in the 1980s. Mr. Blood traveled extensively and pursued a wide variety of ventures and experiences. He is survived by one brother, Richard M. Blood of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his four children, Sharon Anderson and her husband, Dallas, of Barboursville, Virginia, Pam Morgan of Charlottesville, Virginia, John E. Blood III and his wife, Mila, of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Jodi E. Ford and her husband, Steve, of Ogden, Utah; 10 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the Ryan Funeral Home with the Rev. Wendell Lamb officiating. Interment will be private at a later date. He will be remembered for his love of family and sense of adventure. ? BRADFIELD Cleo A. Age 78, of Ormond Beach, FL, died Thursday, March 26, 2006. Cleo was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and the V.F.W. She moved to Florida in 1989 with her husband, Fort from Elmira, NY. Cleo loved dancing, arts and crafts, gardening, bargain shopping and dining out with Gert and many of her friends. Cleo was an avid supporter of the American troops over seas of which one is her grandson, Andrew, who served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Iraq, who has been honored as a Purple Heart recipient. She is survived by her son, Bradley Allen Buell of Elmira, NY; daughter, Cathy Webb of Charlotte, NC; her sister, Phyllis Hunsinger of Georgia; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and her loving dog, Casey whom she loved to walk with her neighbor, John, and his dog, Butch. COLE Dorothy C. "Dortie" Age 99, of 1842 Acorn Rd., Elmira, died, Sunday,
April 16, 2006. She was born September 1, 1906. Dorothy and her husband, Edgar
owned and operated "Coles Lunch" on South Main St., Elmira from September 1936
until July 1964. Dorothy was a secretary in the City School System from
1965-1976 and was known by many as "Mrs. Riverside". She is survived by her
sister, Mildred Hymes of Tioga, PA; and brother, Leo Carleton of Albany, NY;
eight children, Madeline, Edward, Dorothy, Margaret, Nancy, Robert, Mary, and
Josep; 49 grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, two
great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Edgar in 1960
and sons, Walter in 1986 and James in 1994. Interment will be at the convenience

CLAPPER – at the age of 44 years, Daniel Clapper died at his home in
Opposition on Monday. A wife and six children survive him. The
funeral services were held yesterday afternoon. This was Daniel L
Clapper November 27, 1853 - March 12, 1899 son of John and Harriet Culver
Clapper. His wife was the former Estella Place August 11, 1859 - June 23, 1937.

? CORNISH Amelia J. Age 93, of Havana Glen Road, Montour Falls, NY,
died peacefully at Schuyler Hospital, Montour Falls, NY, on Thursday, April 6,
2006. Her husband, George E. Cornish predeceased Mrs. Cornish on July 10, 1980.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Rodney H. Cornish of Centennial, CO; along with
three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cornish was a member of
the Schuyler County Solid Waste Management Task Force, Schuyler County
Historical Society. She was a recipient of the Ramona Barton Award from the
state for her efforts in support of their environment. She was active in
conservation and animal welfare causes. She served for many years as an at large
member of the Schuyler County Environmental Task Force. She was a staunch and
active participant establishing and implementing the Recycling program. She went
to her reward, with her son and niece nearby. Amelia's last touch was that of a
childhood friend and school classmate, Mary Birge, who used her nursing skills,
rising from her wheelchair, to feel for the last faint pulse of that of her best
friend, Amelia. She was a Girl Scout Leader, even though she had no daughters,
but one son. She was a member of the School Board, an enthusiastic advocate in
the educational arena. She was an avid successful golfer, learning the game at
age 50, and a tutor and role model for young people. Relatives and friends are
invited to call at the Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St.,
Montour Falls, NY, on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Her

EASTON Albert W. of North Bingham, PA Age 83, died Monday,
April 10, 2006. Born May 25, 1922, in Coudersport, PA, he was the son of Howard
and Nellie Davey Easton. On December 23, 1944, in Westfield, PA, he married the
former Erma Duell, who predeceased him on February 23, 2005. He was employed by
the former Eberle Tannery in Westfield for many years. He was a member of the
Genesee Rod & Gun Club and the Potter County Anglers. Surviving are two
brothers, Edward (Caroline) Easton of Coudersport and Fordyce Easton of
Westfield; three sisters, Margaret Finch of Wellsville, NY, Shirley Tyler of
Westfield, and Beverly (Leonard, Jr.) Burdick of Genesee; and several nieces and
nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Loyal and

ERLE Thomas James USMC Veteran Age 72, was born April 28, 1933 in Elmira Heights, NY the son of the late Thomas Edward and Anna Mae (Benjamin) Erle, died peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at his home on Oneida Road with his wife and sister by his side. In December of 1967, Thomas married Virginia (Erle) in St. Peter and Paul's Church with Reverend Mattey conducting the wedding ceremony. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 38 years, Virginia; sisters, Loretta (Harold) Gunderman of Elmira, NY, Margaret "Peggy" (Floyd) Wise of Gowanda, NY, Susan (Rick) Hall of Orlando, FL; brothers, Daniel (Diana) Erle of Brandon, FL, Donald Erle of Riverview, FL; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends. "Tom", as he was known by his friends, retired from the Hilliard Corporation in April of 1995 after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a decorated Veteran of the USMC proudly serving his country from 1954-1958 during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Clarence Oliver Post # 154 Elmira Heights, NY and the Italian American Veterans Club Elmira, NY. Mr. Erle volunteered countless hours with the Eldridge Park Carousel Project and received a plaque honoring his service. He also volunteered much of his time to the Newtown Battlefield with the construction of the Indian Villages. "Tosh", the nickname given to him when he was a little boy by his family, because he never could pronounce Thomas, was an avid hunter, fisherman and bow hunter, which was the love of his life. FASSETT Raymond G. "Spicket" Age 82, of Elmira, NY, died Friday, April 14, 2006. Ray was born September 12, 1923 in East Brady, PA, the son of Raymond F. and Sarah Griffiths Fassett. He married Dorothy Huber at North Presbyterian Church September 27, 1943. In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, he is survived by his children, Robert F. Fassett of Sarasota, FL and Binghamton, NY, Beverly Fassett of Binghamton, NY, and Joanne F. Dalrymple with husband David of Elmira; grandchildren, Henry and Matthew Dalrymple and brother-in-law James Rockey of Venice, FL. Ray was predeceased by his sister Margaret Rockey. Ray grew up in Elmira and graduated from Elmira Free Academy. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Navy Seabees. Ray was stationed in the Pacific and helped construct air bases at Tinian, Okinawa and other islands. Ray was an accomplished and skilled machinist, mechanic, and carpenter. After the war he worked for 30 years at Bendix. After he retired from Bendix, he and Dorothy single-handedly built a new home, and he then returned to the workforce working at LRC for another 10 years. Ray loved camping and traveling with his family and upon retirement he, Dorothy and the dogs traveled extensively across the country in their RV. Ray was always quick to lend his talents and a helping hand to his neighbors and would spend whatever time it took to help out. Ray was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His big heart will be greatly missed by his family and friends. There will be no calling hours. FLAGG Matthew Anthony of Binghamton, NY and Wellsboro, PA Age 24, of Binghamton and Wellsboro, PA, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 9, 2006. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Wm. R. MERRILL Emma (Gillette) St. Joseph's Hospital Retiree, Longtime Southport
Resident Age 86, died peacefully at home, after a long struggle, surrounded by
her loving family, Thursday, April 13, 2006. She was born December 5, 1919 at
St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late Floyd Russell
Gillette, Lena Peterson Gillette and Ruth Mays Fanning, was also predeceased by
her husband, Richard A. Merrill; brother, Calvin R. Gillette; and sister,
Dorothy Sweeney McConnell. Emma is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law,
Nancy and James Beeman of Vista, CA, Judy and Richard Lown of Elmira, NY;
grandchildren, Amy and Emilio Solano of Los Angeles, CA, Daniel and Marie Lown
of Elmira, NY; great-grandchildren, Pablo and Natalia Solano of Los Angeles, CA,
Annie Laken, Sadie Rae, and Emmie Alexander Lown of Elmira, NY; brothers-in-law,
Frank C. Merrill of Bare Foot Bay, FL, and George McConnell of Schenectady, NY;
very special nephews and nieces, Calvin and Barbara Gillette, Nancy and James
Danaher, Catherine Hanrahan, Jo Ellen Sweeney, Michael Sweeney, Gerald and Pat

well as many wonderful friends. Emma worked at the Elmira Knitting Mill and
retired from St. Joseph's Hospital with 30 years of service. She was an active
member of Grace Episcopal Church, Altar Guild, annual rummage sales and the
Community Kitchen. Emma was a charter member of the Knit-Wits for 44 years, a
group of very close friends, Mary Morrell, Johanne Miles, Teresa Burin, Anne
Ferraro, Natalie Kondrk, Kitty Ridosh, and Anne Maloney, who knitted caps for
newborns at both local hospitals, made caps, mittens, and scarves for the people
of need at Christmas, plus lap robes and slippers for residents at the Chemung
County Nursing Facility and Elcor Health Services. Arthritis slowed the speed of
their knitting needles so they switched to playing cards and became the "Golden
Girls." She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and
a wonderful friend. We loved her and will miss her. The family of Emma would
like to give special thanks to Sandra Lovell and Marie Lown for their tender
love in caring for our mom; to Pat Faber for bringing communion and fulfilling
our mom's spiritual needs - you are a beautiful soul; to all our wonderful
friends and family who have given us the support system to get through these
past three years. We have been truly blessed. The family will receive friends at
Grace Episcopal Church Parish House on Monday, April 17, 2006, from 10:00 to

HALLIDAY Louisa
Louisa Halliday Foote died quietly on April 9, 2006 in the Clear Lake area
of Houston, Texas. Louisa was born in Elmira, NY, on May 2, 1912 and lived in
the southern Finger Lakes area with her husband, Delbert, until moving to
Hendersonville, NC, in 1984. A devoted wife and mother, Louisa and Del were
married nearly 70 years before his passing in 2004. She was preceded in death by
her sisters Eleanor, Ethyl, and Cora, and her brother Otto. Louisa was an avid
bridge player and loved to sing. She was an active member of the choirs of the
First Methodist Church of Watkins Glen, NY, and of the First Baptist Church of
Elmira, NY, and other community chorus organizations. She is survived by her two
sons, Stephen and his wife, Grace of League City, TX, and Joel and his wife,
Lois of Broomfield, CO, and Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren include, Michael and
wife, Tiffany, David and wife, Paula, Adam and wife Eve, and Kathryn and
husband, Jeff; and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at
a future date.
HAMILTON Russell C. Age 82 of Southport, NY. Reunited with his dearly missed wife of fifty years, Betty Hamilton, on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Russell is survived by his son, Russell J. (Delphine) Hamilton of Aberdeen, MD; daughter, Wendy Overton (Gary Dewey) of Elmira; son, David L. Russell was a proud, decorated United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving his country to the best, and with everything he had. He was very proud to be the Mayor of South Woods, Lake Bonin. He loved singing Karaoke with his three amigos at the Homestead Inn. Russell was a crossword king. He loved every baseball team except the New York Yankees and car #24. Russell was a modern day "John Wayne", devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. HARDER Brian H. Age 24, of Caton, died on Thursday, April 13, 2006. He was born January 15, 1982, in Elmira, NY. Brian was a member of the Caton United Methodist Church and its Mission Team. He attended Alfred Tech School and was in an apprentice program with the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union Local #267. He was employed by Collins and Walton Plumbing and Heating Contractors of Elmira. Brian had a love for life, the great outdoors, mountain biking, moto cross, four wheeling, working out and a passion for music. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother and friend. She was a truly unique and special woman. She has created many special memories for her children and husband. Laura E. Age 92, formerly of Elmira, entered into eternal rest peacefully
Saturday, April 1, at the home of her daughter, Betsy Clair of Hartsville. Laura
was born February 20, 1914 in Rochester, the daughter of Hugo and Pearl Vargason
Kangas. She was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard Kangas and Everett Barnes.
She was a medical technician for 35 years at the Arnot/Ogden Hospital in Elmira.
Laura was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving her country during WWII attaining
the rank of E9. She was a very active member of the American Legion Post in
Elmira and had been a Past Commander of the Post. She was one of the founders of
the Stephanie Lido Post of the American Legion. She was Chemung County Adjutant
and past Commander of the American Legion, as well as Sixth Dist. Adjutant and
N.Y.S. Adjutant. Laura was also a member of the Mormon Church of Latter Day
Saints. Survivors include her son, Billy (Okja) Cornett of Guangzho, China; and
her daughter, Betsy (Edward) Clair of Hartsville; 13 grandchildren; 32
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. There will be no prior
calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial

KINNER Doris June Age 80, formerly of Millerton, Penn, died Friday, April 7,
2006 in Winter Haven, Fl. She was born in New York City and lived most of
her life in Millerton. She was the sportswear buyer for Iszards for several
years. Doris was pre-deceased by her husband, Keith, who died on October 15,
2004. She is survived by a son, Alan, of Millerton, a brother, William Lawson of
Tarpon Springs, Fl., a sister, Janet Lawson of Rochester, N.Y., three
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jeffrey M.D. Age 43 of 469 Bellwood Drive Horseheads, NY died very
unexpectedly on Friday March 31, 2006. Jeffrey was born on in New York, NY on
May 20, 1962 the son of the late Mervin and Barbara Drucker Leichter. Dr.
Leichter was a pediatrican at Southern Tier Pediatrics in Elmira, NY for over 12
years. He enjoyed all the time he spent with his sons especially snow-boarding,
and playing guitars. Jeffrey is survived by his loving and devoted wife Cheryl
Bryant Leichter; twin sons: Benjamin Leichter and Martin Leichter all of
Horseheads, NY; sister and brother-in-law: Stacey and Steven Paiva of MA;

LEISENRING Mary Margaret 84, of Frederick, MD, formerly of Elmira and
Binghamton, N.Y., died Monday, April 17, 2006, in Frederick, MD. She was the
wife of Richard J. Leisenring Jr., who died January 30, 2003. Born June 24, 1921
in Hammersville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Florence
McMurchy Miller. Mrs. Leisenring was a member of the Frederick Presbyterian
Church where she served as Deacon and a member of the Church Women United.
Surviving are three children, Charlotte A. Robinson and husband, James of
Annapolis, MD, John D. Leisenring of Frederick, and Faith L. Stouffer and
husband, Jeffery of Sharpsburg, MD; 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; and a
brother, Robert Miller and wife, Ann of Bethel, OH. A Memorial Service will be
held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at the Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115

MILLER Rosie Louise Age 86, died on Monday, April 10, 2006, at Noyes
Memorial Hospital in Dansville. She was born on May 2, 1919 in Elkland, PA, the
daughter of the late Charlie and Mable Clark McConnell. In 1959, Rosie married
Frank Browning whom predeceased her. She later married Charles Miller on
December 6, 1969 at the Assembly of God Church in Corning. He predeceased her on
May 5, 2002. She was a member of the Elmira Christian Center and retired from
Corning, Inc. in 1981. Rosie is survived by her sons, Charles Miller of East
Lawrence, PA, and Richard Miller of Lebanon, PA; daughter, Carolyn Comstock of
Chesapeake, VA; granddaughters, Marcie, Cheryl, and Angie; and several nieces
and nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters and four brothers. Family and

RILEY Iva B. (Anna) Departed this world the day following her joyous
birthday celebration on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the age of 87. Iva was born
on April 7, 1919 in Elmira, daughter of Elmer and Gertrude Criss Osborn. She
married Sylvester L "Buster" Riley on September 28, 1935. In addition to her
parents, she was predeceased by both her husbands, S.L. Riley and Clifford Doty;
her siblings, Myrtle Wood, Alma Sawyer Munson Cook and Melvin D. Sawyer; and her
beloved daughter, Eleanor Riley Cummings. Iva was employed for many years at
Corning Inc. She was a member of the Corning-Baron Steuben DAR Chapter, a past
member of the Caton Grange and a member of the Millerton Weslyean Church. Iva
was an avid hunter and enjoyed caring for her large family who survive. Her nine

PALMER, 80, of 56029 Hoover Ave., Mishawaka, Ind., died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 1991, at the Troy Community Hospital, Troy, Pa., after suffering an apparent heart attack while visiting relatives in the Canton area. He had resided in Mishawaka since 1950. Mr. Palmer was born May 22, 1911, at Tioga Co., Pa., a son of Harry and Edith Spencer Palmer. He retired in 1979 from Wheelabrator-Frye, Mishawaka. John was a member of UAW Local No. 995 and Wheelabrator Retirees Association. Surviving are his wife, the former Vielda Spencer; four sons, John D. of Jones, Mich., Harry W. of Edwardsburg, Mich., the Rev. Robert D. Palmer of Merchantville, N.J.; and Keith E. of Mishawaka; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edna Simpson of Canton, Martha Palmer of Troy and Gladys Griffin of Canton; and a brother, Harry Walter Palmer of Illinois. WILLIS ‘BUTCH’ PORTER, On the morning of Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, Granville Township resident Willis “Butch” Porter died quietly at Robert Packer hospital surrounded by members of his loving family. He was 57 years of age. Born on his family’s farm in Canton Township March 4, 1945 he was one of 14 children in the family of Addison C. and Etta Mae (McNeal) Porter. Butch attended the Canton schools, but left early to help support the family. His first passion was farming, and he was a well known worker on several farms throughout Sullivan, Bradford and Tioga Counties. Butch was a man with a strong work ethic, and through the course of his lifetime worked for Swayze Folding Box Co. in Canton, Lemoncelli Tire Co., in Elmira, N.Y., Paper Magic in troy and L.I. Baumunk of Shunk, all the while operating his own farm in Granville Township. He enjoyed fishing hunting, bowling, gardening, skating, watching NASCAR races and camping at County Bridge Park. Butch also enjoyed music, especially Polkas. He derived great enjoyment hosting his famous chicken barbecues, and was known for indulging in his own personal favorite treat, pickled eggs and raisin pie. Butch was a man with a mild, easy going nature, but when he knew that he was right about some issue he would steadfastly defend his position to the end. Butch had a zest for life and a heart that opened to just about everyone. He was the father of three, the grandpa of many and the uncle of all. Butch is survived by sons, Todd (and Georgianna) Porter, and Scott (and Tiffany) Porter, and daughter Cherry (and Matt) Nedley; grandchildren Mickenzie, Brett, Meghan, Mitchell, Andrew, Kurtis and Jakob Porter, Trena May McIlwain, Aaron, Candace and Kaleb Nedley; sisters Mable Roupp, Rosemarie Benedict, Pauline (and Simeon) Jackson, Donnie (and Kenneth) Stowell, Mary (and Joe) Walburn, Ruth Ellen Machmer; brothers, Reed (and Donna) Porter, Gary Lee Porter, Thomas Earl Porter; former wife and friend Louretta Barrett Porter; and special friends, Dave and Shelby Fleming. SMAHA Dr. Lynn A. 63, of Sayre, PA, died Friday, April 14, 2006, unexpectedly in Canadaigua, NY. Born August 31, 1942 in Marshalltown, IA, he was the son of the late Glenn and Marguerite Twedt Smaha. Lynn dedicated his life through service to others. He joined the Guthrie Clinic as a cardiologist in 1978 and served the organization in a wife variety of clinical and administrator capacities. Lynn served as president and CEO of Guthrie Clinic form 1990 to 1998. Most recently he served has as Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Guthrie Clinic and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs. From June 1999 to June 2000, Dr. Smaha served as the American Heart Association. In 2004, Dr. Smaha was presented with the Gold Heart Award, the American Heart Association's highest volunteer-related honor. He also served on the Foundation Board for the Sayre High School new track project. Most recently he served on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a joint project of the American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation. He was president of the Board for the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center in Elmira, NY. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Angie at home; children, Nicole Smaha, Philadelphia, PA, Tonya Smaha, Marshalltown, IA, Heather Smaha, Wilkes-Barre, PA, Scott Olmstead, Buffalo, NY, and Bryan Olmstead, Albany, NY; granddaughter, Tessa Olmstead; brother, Mark (Jackie) Smaha, Keyport, WA; niece, Holly (Todd) Thrasher, Snoqualmie, WA; and nephew, Ryan Smaha, Pocattelo, ID. moved to Rock Stream that same year to own and operate their own dairy farm,
which they sold in 1969. Mrs. White was a very active member and Deacon of the
Rock Stream Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Rock Stream Ladies Aid &
Missionary Society. She is loved and will be dearly missed by three sons, Norman
J. (Doris) White of Kennewick, WA, Edwin F. (Rev. Judy) White of Horseheads,
David L. (Sandy) White of Hickory, NC; twin daughters, Fay W. (Thomas) McIlroy
of Elmira, and Kay E. (John) Shepard of Rock Stream; a sister, Claribel (Karl)
Margeson of West Chester, PA; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren,
several nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren. She
was predeceased by a brother, Leaman Smith in 2000; and a granddaughter, Carolyn

STEPHENS Josephine S
JOHNSON Josephine S. A long time resident of Elmira, died on Thursday, April
13th, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, following a long battle with
multiple myeloma and complications from viral pneumonia. Josephine was born on
March 4th in Canisteo, NY, She was the daughter of the late Allen and Edith
Punches Stephens. Josephine married her beloved husband and friend, Arthur F.
Johnson, whom she has dearly missed since his death on March 5th, 1993.
Josephine was employed at the Excel Dairy, Lights Bakery, and the A&P plant, but
her best times were as a homemaker. Caring for her family and being proud of her
home were most rewarding to her. She was a well known in the crafting community
of the southern tier for her design and sewing abilities. (And a six foot mouse,
that survives to this day, someplace.) She was a loving and dedicated wife,
mother and friend. Everyone that knew her appreciated her genuine interest in
them and her willing and generous heart. Surviving Josephine are her loving
daughter, Judith Diello, who was her primary caregiver and companion; three
beloved sons, Stephen (Bonnie) Johnson of Springfield, VA, Mark (Reiko) Johnson
of Erie, PA, and Eric (Barbara) Johnson of Catlettsburg, KY; six grandchildren:
Phillip M. Johnson, Ed (Carla) Diello, Timothy (Alicia) Diello, Tiffany Barrows,

A much loved minister and preacher of the Southern Tier Church of Christ went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday April 5, 2006 in Lawrence, MA very unexpectedly at the age of 84. Sheldon was born on December 27, 1921 in Scottsdale, PA son of the late Park & Cora Billheimer Stoner. He married the love of his life Naomi Gorham in 1953. Together they spent their lives serving the Lord and laboring in the Southern Tier Church of Christ, 351 E. Born May 5, 1921 in Overton, he was the son of the late Homer and Bertha Farrell Streby. Lloyd was employed by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for 43 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Overton; Evergreen Masonic Lodge No. 163, Monroeton; and the Sylvania Men’s Club. He formerly served as a director of the First National Bank of Bradford County in Towanda and as caretaker for the Overton Cemetery for a number of years. Lloyd was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler. On May 29, 1940, he married the former Beatrice Bump at the First United Methodist Church Parsonage in Towanda. He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 11, 1995. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Marcella and Brian Crenshaw of Mason, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Jeanne Streby of Towanda and Donald and Maria Streby of Tunkhannock; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Richard Hugo of New Albany; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, John Streby. The funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Robert Martin, pastor of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Overton, officiating. A private interment service will be held in the Warburton Hill Cemetery, Overton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. HARRIS Debra L. Age 52 of Wellsboro, PA, was called home to be with
her Lord Jesus on Saturday, April 8, 2006. Born on July 24, 1953 in Redlands,
CA, she was the daughter of Edward and Claudia Keith Sturzen. On June 24, 1972
in Tacoma, WA, she married Reverend Ricke Harris, who survives. Mrs. Harris was
a graduate of Tacoma Baptist Schools and the Elim Bible Institute in Lima, NY.
She was a pastor's wife for the past 33 years. She was a licensed minister
through Elim Fellowship and, along with her husband, she was a missionary and
helped establish an orphanage in Nepal. She was a member of Mt. Zion Full Gospel
Church in Wellsboro, where she played the piano and organ. She had worked as a
clinical assistant with Davis Chiropractic. Debra was a devoted wife and mother
and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Surviving, in addition to her husband,
are her mother and stepfather, Claudia and Charles Branham of Graham, WA; two
daughters, Kristen Evans and her husband, David of Lima, NY, Stephanie Slisher
and her husband, Matthew of Mullaby, Kazakhstan; one son, Ricke Harris, Jr. and
his wife, Meredith of Pensacola, FL; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Edward
Sturzen of Calmus, WA, Walter Sturzen and his wife, Lisa, and Martin Sturzen,
all of Graham, WA; two sisters, Patti Harris and her husband, Herman of Graham,
WA, and Terry Sickman and her husband, Carl of Puyallup, WA; and many nieces and
nephews. Debra was preceded in death by her father, who died on April 1, 1967.
Friends are invited to attend Debra's Life Celebration service beginning with
visitation on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the
Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd. of Wellsboro. Visitation will also be held on
Thursday at the Living Word Fellowship on Charleston Road, Wellsboro, from 10:00
a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev.
George Veach, Elder of Elim Fellowship, officiating. Debra's remains will be
interred in Kathmandu, Nepal, at the convenience of the family. Memorial

TALLEY S. Thomas of Sabinsville, PA Age 65, of Sabinsville and Palmyra, formerly of Chadds Ford, PA, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006. Born June 6, 1940, in Chadds Ford, he was the son of Joseph H. and Ann M. Robinson Talley. In 1960, he married the former Diane Clinton, who survives. He was employed as supt. of construction by Snyder & Crompton in Wilmington, DE for 36 years. He resided in Potter County since 1996. He was a member of St. Bibiana Church in Galeton, and St. Cornelius Church in Chadds Ford. He was a coach and umpire for several sports in the Brandywine Youth Club and was a past pres. of the Chester County Sportsmen's Club. TRAVIS Harold E. Age 75, of 183 Burkshire Drive, Horseheads, died after a brief illness Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at the Manor at Bethany Village where he had briefly been residing. Harold was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Karen who died October 4th 2003. Harold retired from CIBA-Corning in North Attleboro, MA, where he worked as their Plant Manager from 1984-1995. WEBSTER Richard Sr. "Webby" Age 63, of Elmira, NY, died on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Montour Falls, NY, on November 7, 1942, to the late Willard and Elsie (Warner) Webster. Richard was predeceased by his brother, Howard Andrew "Pete" Webster. Survivors include his longtime companion, Donna Ripley of Elmira; sons, Roger (Amy) Webster and Richard Webster Jr., both of Elmira; daughter, Elsie (Oliver) Webster of Elmira; brothers, George (Marie) Webster, Hubert Webster and Willy (Marylou) Webster, all of Odessa, NY; 12 grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. SMITH - Marie A. Welty, 92, died Feb. 26, 2006, at Desert Valley Hospital in
Victorville, Calif., surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born on Jan. 6,
1914, in Mansfield, PA. Marie moved to the Victor Valley area in 1982, after
being a longtime resident of Ventura County. Marie was living at Sterling Inn in
Victorville. Marie was retired from the State of California, where she had
worked as a registered psychiatric nurse for 24 years. Marie is survived by her
daughter Carol Post of Yucca Valley; granddaughters, Jane Spencer, and Kellie
Chavez and her husband, Ralph, all of Victorville, and Kimberly Susmark and her
husband, Mike, of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandson, Todd Welty and his wife, Kristen, of
Camarillo; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son
Edward Welty of Camarillo in 1998. Dudley Mortuary, Apple Valley, is handling

Ogden Medical Center. Jean was currently residing at Bethany Manor. She was born
April 11, 1924, the daughter of George and Florence Cuykendall Yorkey. Jean was
predeceased by her husband Warren V. Hoxie, sons, George W. and Jonathan D.
Hoxie and great-grandson Andrew Smith. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia
J. Smith of Seneca Falls, NY; grandchildren, with families, Daniel G. and Gail
Smith of Fairview Park, OH with sons, Declan and Fintan; Sydney G. and Theresa
Smith of Dundalk, Ireland with son, S.J. Oisin; Cormac M. and Melinda Smith of
Elmira, NY; and Emer S. Smith with fiancé William Schiefen of Albany;
