1869 29 SEP D Adams, Infant Tioga news, Foster Adams' little girl about two years old was drowned on September 18th. Mr. Adams lives on Mill Creek about three miles fromt his village.
1869 25 AUG O Alford, James Tioga news, James Alford, a soldier of 1812 and an early pioneer of the country, was buried several weeks ago. "Uncle Jimmy" was a quiet respectable citizen and died in his 82d year.

1869 27 OCT O Bentley, Jesse Letter from Plainfield, Wis., First settler was Jesse Bentley, a brother of Judge E.T. Bentley of Tioga. He came here 18 years ago. J.B. Mitchell, a brother of John I. Mitchell, Esq., has the largest and nicest store building in Plainfield, Two-thirds of all the adult inhabitants of Plainfield township are from Tioga Co.

1869 25 AUG D Brewster, E.J. Corning, NY, news,. The Journal says; E.J. Brewster of Alfred Centre died at Coudersport, while on a business visit. He leaves a father, mother and brother living in Mansfield, Pa. And several children who reside with their mother, from whom he had been divorced, in Allegany co.,NY.
1869 10 MAR M Briggs, Wesley m at the house of George Close, in Westfield Boro, Feb 28th, by Francis Strang, Esq., Wesley Briggs and Ann C. Scott, both of Clymer.
1869 1 SEP D Bristol, Daniel The eastern townships of this county were visited by a fearful storn on August 28th 1869. Mr. Daniel Bristol, of Mainsburg, was struck by lightening while at Fall Brook and instantly killed. The body was taken home Sunday.
1869 15 DEC D Bronson, Mrs. On the 1st of December, a man named Bronson undertook to cross the Cowanesque river at Nelson with a team and wagon, having aboard his wife and a child of four months. The river being swollen by the rain of the day previous, and very deep for fording, the box floated off from the wagon with the woman and child, while the man was dragged ashore by the lines. The child was rescued and the mother was drowned. The body was recovered the following sunday near Darling dam.

1869 11 AUG D Montague, Thomas Thomas Montague died in the County House, August 2nd. He was born in Woolwich, Eng. In the year 1787 and came to this country when a boy. For many years he was an elder in the Freewill Baptist church and preached in this county. He had no relatives in America.

1869 4 AUG D Pool, Rudolph Mr. Rudolph Pool, was instantly killed at Bailey's Mills in Mansfield, July 29, 1869. Mr Pool was a German Jew, but lately arrived in this country. The remains were taken to Elmira and left with the Hebrew society there for interment.

1869 15 DEC D Rice, John H. John H. Rice, Grocer, an esteemed young man, died December 10th, after an illness of less than a day, in the 30th year of his age. He was born in England and came to this country when a small boy. He served in the Civil War. After the war he married and went into business in Wellsboro, first as a clerk and afterward as a grocer on his own account. He leaves a wife and two children. He was buried on December 12th. The funeral was held at the M.E. Church.
1869 25 AUG D Rockwell, Dr. R.C. The Troy Gazette chronicles the death of Dr. R.C. Rockwell of Troy of disease of the heart. He was buried with Masonic honors on Monday 9th.

1869 31 MAR O Stevens, Henry A family gathering was held on the 4th and 5th of Mar 1869 at the house of Henry Stevens, of Middlebury. Eleven attended. They were all born in VT. The "Patriarchess" of the occasion was a woman familiarly known as Aunt Patty Stevens, aged 82, mother of 7 children 44 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She and one sister had been separated for over 40 years but they recognized each other instantly. The names and ages of the company were as follows: Patty Stevens 82, Mary Stevens 70, Emery Stevens 70, Dean Dutton 69, Lucy Doolittle 66, Heber Cole 66, Sally Dutton 65, Abram Adams 62, Eliza Walker 62, Daniel Stevens 53, Harvey Adams 50.

1869 3 NOV D Terrell, infant Burned to death. Lawrence news -- October 29th. Yesterday morning, a little daughter of Mr. Nathan Terrell, of Lawrence township was so badly burned that she only survived 5 hours. The father and mother had gone from home, leaving 3 small children alone. The little girl was standing in the front of the stove, when her dress caught fire. She ran out of the house and the wind increased the flames so that her clothes were entirely consumed. Dr. Darling was called in but nothing could be done.

1869 20 OCT D Williams, Charles G. d Charles G. Williams, Editor of the Wellsboro Democrat died very suddently at D.D. Holliday's Hotel, his boarding place, October 16th, aged 37 years. The funeral took place at the Episcopal Church Monday and remains conveyed to the home of his childhood, Hartford, Susquehanna Co., Pa, and deposited in the family cemetery.
