Daily Republican | 1854 | 26-Jul | D | Partridge, Milton | SAD CASE OF DROWNING: Yesterday afternoon, about 5 o'clock, a young man, about 16 years of age, named Milton Partridge (only son of Capt. Partridge of this village) was drowned in the Chemung by jumping over Hills Dam, situated above the upper bridge. It seems that he, with several others had gone up above there to bathe, and proposed to his comrades to jump which caused his death. Immediately afer he had jumped over the sheet of water he cried out to those on shore, that "all was right" - but in a few minutes they missed sight of him, the counter current having carried him under the dam. About an hour and a half elapsed before his body was recovered, although diligent exertions were made by a large number of our citizens to find it. On removing some brush wood, which had lodged near the dam the body floated down stream several rods, and was caught. It was then taken to the residence of Capt. Partridge, on Lake Street. Young Partridge was a lad of rare promise, and his untimely death is sincerely deplored by |

On Tuesday a post-mortem examination on the body was held by Coronor Wey which resulted in the discovery that her death was occasioned by the flow of blood from a rupture of a large tumor in the pit of her stomach. |
