1878 30-May D Marvin, Austin Died—A young man by the name of Austin Marvin, of Niles Valley, met with a fatal accident at Keeneyville last Saturday. He was employed in the steam saw-mill in that village as fireman, and while attempting to run a belt on a pulley when the mill was in motion, caught his left leg in the belt, mangling it horribly. It was found necessary to amputate the leg near the hip. The operation was performed by Dr. Niles, of Keeneyville, assisted by Dr. Humphrey and son, of Osceola and Dr. Blatchley, of this village. By the untireing efforts of Dr. Niles and others he survived 26 hours after the operation, being conscious to the last. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday last by the Middlebury Odd Fellows Lodge, of which he was a member. He was 30 years of age and leaves a wife and family.

1878 27-Jun. D Marvin, Mrs. Died—Mrs. Marvin, a widow lady and old resident of Charleston Twp., was found dead in her bed last Sunday. She was apparently in as good health as usual on Saturday and died suddenly. The dec’d was about 65 years of age.

1878 17-Oct. O Moore, C. M. News Item—Mr. C.M. Moore, of Liberty, is a candidate for the office of Prothonotary. He was born in Liberty in 1842. In 1849 his father moved to the head waters of Little Pine creek to engage in lumbering. When young Moore was fourteen, his father died, leaving a family consisting of the Mother, two daughters and the son. They returned to Liberty, where they have resided ever since. In 1863 he entered the store of Mr. Marder, of Liberty, as a clerk and winning his way by business energe and skill he was taken into partnership, where he has been up to the present.

1878 4-Apr. O Paul, Mrs. Louis News Item—Mrs. Louis Paul was a guest at the Parkhurst House, Thursday. She is the mother-in-law of L.M. Hammond. Mrs. Paul was married in 1820, and in 1836 moved from Delaware Co., N.Y. to Nelson, in this County. Her husband was a soldier of the War of 1812, and died 3 years ago. She is here to make application for a pension. She is now 80 years of age.

1878 17-Jan. D Peck, Mrs. Died—Mrs. Peck, formerly of Elkland, died at the residence of her son, C.L. Peck, Esq., at Coudersport, on Tuesday evening, of last week. Her remains were taken to Elkland for burial.
1878 24-Jan. D Peck, Mrs. Harriet Died—in Coudersport, Potter Co., Pa., at the residence of son, C.L. Peck, Esq., formerly of this County, on the 8th of Jan., Mrs. Harriet Peck, for many years resident of Farmington. Mrs. Peck was born in Masonville, Delaware Co., N.Y., in 1820, and was 58 years old at the time of her death. She married at the age of 18 to William Peck, of Delaware Co., and moved with her husband and parents to what was then the town of Elkland, Tioga Co., Pa., where her father continued to reside up to the time of his death - - about 2 years ago. Mr. Peck purchased a tract of land in Farmington Township of the Bingham Trustees; and Mrs. Peck (lived there) for more than 35 years. The remains of Mrs. Peck were brought to this place for interment and deposited beside her Father’s in the Cemetery on the hill. Rev. H.C. Moyer conducted the ceremonies. Nelson, Pa. Jan. 15, 1878.
