1877 | 15-Mar. | D | Brown, Myron A. | Died—It is with sadness we announce the death of Myron A. Brown, Supt. of Telegraph and Train Dispatcher of the Tioga & Elmira State Line R.R. Co. Mr. Brown had been a sufferer for a number of years from epileptic fits, but had been improving until he removed to Tioga Junction, where in the dampness of the new building he contracted a cold which aggrivated his disease and from which he never recovered. Tuesday morning he commenced failing fast and at 11:45 death put an end to his sufferings. Myron was the son of Mr. S.T. Brown of Southport, N.Y., from whose residence the funeral takes place tomorrow. He has one brother Mr. Geo. Brown, Train Dispatcher on the C.C.& A.R.R. Not only to the aged parents and bereaved brother is deep sympathy extended, but to the devoted and loving wife and 2 fatherless children are our hearts especially turned. |

Ford died on Tuesday morning, Oct. 16, Mr. Ford was born in Somerset, Niagara Co., N.Y., and was in the 48th year of his age when he died. He was baptised when 16 years of age, commenced preaching at 20 and ordained at 29. After preaching some time in Canada he came to the States and became pastor of the Baptist Church at Watertown, N.Y. Four years ago he came to Holidaytown and was pastor of the Baptist Church 2 years .....On the 7th instant he preached in Chatham; returning he was taken with a chill, he told his family he should not recover; medical aid was summoned but he continued to sink until he expired as above stated. Mr. Ford was twice married. His first wife and two children died some years ago. His second wife and one child (survive). The funeral services were conducted by Rev. D.T. Van Dorn. |

Calkins, of Wellsboro, Pa., is in town, called here to bring the remains of Mrs. Nancy Hanford, Mother of Mrs. Calkins, who died at her son-in-laws residence in Wellsboro, at the venerable age of 89 years. Three of her children were present at the funeral this afternoon, viz:- - Mrs. Hannah Squires, Mrs. S.B. Wood, at whose house the services were attended, and Mrs. Calkins. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, whose pastor officiated at the burial services. The Rev. Mr. Calkins, to whom we have referred .......was called to his present pastorate soon after his graduation from Auburn Theological Seminary, some 30 years ago. |

About a year ago she went to Wellsboro, Pa., where she has been in the family of Rev. J.F. Calkins, who married another daughter, and at this place she died last Sunday, after a very brief illness. Mrs. Hanford was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church here, whose pastor, Rev. Dr. W.E. Knox, officiated, assisted by President Cowles of the Elmira Female College. The deceased had attained the ripe age of 89. A brother, W. Wood, of Horseheads, aged 19 years, [probably a typo] was at the funeral, is the last one living of 6 brothers and 5 sisters all of whom lived to see prosperous families grow up around them. |

She was born in Ireland, County Cavan, in 1827, and was in her 50th year at the time of her death. Her father died about one year ago, aged 77 years; previous to his death there had not been a death in the family for 32 years for the last 35 years the family have lived at Overton, Bradford Co., Pa. It was there in the year 1860 that Mr. & Mrs. Harden were married. Mrs. Harden had 4 brothers and 2 sisters, all of whom, and her Mother also, are still living. One of her brothers is the noted Rev. Father McGovern, of Danville, Pa. Mrs. Harden (died) on Friday, the 24th of August. She leaves a husband and one daughter, Maggie, 15 years old. The remains of Mrs. Harden were taken to Overton and laid at rest beside those of her father. |
